Tom Coughlin

Tom Coughlin for President?

Hue Jackson

Hue Jackson – Right on brother!

Sean Payton for a 2nd RD pick? Mike Shanahan? Adam Gase? Tom Coughlin? Dan Campbell? Bill Belichick for Suh, Landry, Parker and Tannehill? Hue Jackson? Mike Shula? Teryl Austin? Mike Smith?

Who will be the next head Coach of the Miami Dolphins?

Out of all the options above, and there are sure to be other options in the near future, I actually have 2 favorites from that bunch.

If we’re going with the short term stopgap, and a HC who will give us respectability immediately, and as part of the package, grooms our next HC in Dan Campbell, I’m all for Tom Coughlin. Coughlin is a well respected HC and person in the NFL. Once a fierce disciplinarian type coach, being a military man, Coughlin was a no nonsense man. As HC of the NYG, he felt like he was losing his team, and changed his approach to a more friendlier relationship with his players, and the team responded and went to the Super Bowl and won. Is 70 years old too old? I say hell no! I’ve seen great managers in baseball like Jim Leyland, Jack McKeon succeed in their 70’s, and heck, Ronald Reagan was 70 when he was elected President, and he did a fantastic job running our country.

I like Dan Campbell, but I just don’t think he’s ready to run a team yet. Too many things he’s deficient in, but what a truly great guy to learn from Tom Coughlin would be. A true professional, a winner. Of course, nothing has been documented that Coughlin and or Cambell would agree to this set up, but it seems legitimate to me, and I like it.

If we’re looking for a long term (hopefully), I like Hue Jackson. (I would like Mike Shula too, but as so far, he hasn’t been mentioned as a coach we’re interested in) Jackson wasn’t given a fair shot with the Raiders, he went 8-8, and was fired. Incidentally, Hue’s OC in OAK was Al Saunders, the guy we brought in to “help” our offense after Philbin was fired. Jackson has done good things as OC for the Bengals. Dalton is playing his best football of his career this year, and most believe that is credit due to Hue Jackson. Bengals fans are actually crying for Dalton to play in the playoffs when they clearly all know Dalton is 0-4 in the playoffs.

  • Friday January 8th Update! *

Yesterday, the Dolphins interviewed Bears Offensive Coordinator Adam Gase.  Supposedly it was a long, thorough interview.  That means this week, the Dolphins have interviewed Mike Shanahan, Mike Smith, Teryl Austin and Anthony Lynn.  Dan Campbell will make his case today, and Doug Marrone and Hue Jackson will follow this weekend.

It’s funny during these coaching searches how writers pigeon hole these guys into either offensive or defensive categories as if they know nothing about the other side of the ball. Many of these guys can coach multiple positions on either side of the ball but sometimes they just gravitate as specializing in one side or the other or a specific position. But when you think about it, as fans are we not capable of viewing and commenting on both sides of the ball or does one side of the ball just completely confound you that you can’t comment? LOL

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think it’s normal to view a coach as being an offensive or defensive guy. Of course they know 1000X more of both sides than any of us, but that’s what we all tend to do. I think of Philbin as an offensive guy, he was pretty offensive in his 3 + years here. lol

Damn man, thats awful. So sorry to hear that. ++vibes your way and i know it sounds bleak but here is to hoping they get it treated quickly.

  17. D's avatar D says:

To me with this coaching search it isnt going to be about the guy and how highly touted he is, or how many other teams are after him (though you have to admit it would be odd for a candidate to be highly sought after by so many teams if he was not that good). Its going to come down for me to who can assemble the best staff, and how well he can utilize the players we currently have.

I might have lost some faith in Tanny but i know he is our QB next year and feel he should be. One down year in 4 with the others continually showing upwards slope doesnt convince me he sucks, but it also doesnt make me feel confidant he ever gets there either. Next year will be the test and if we wind up in this same place next year, im sorry but we need to start strongly thinking about that out clause. It does i think depend strongly on the coach we get, but i think enough of them saw last year, they can evaluate best whether they think it was team or QB or a decent share of responsibility. They will make the call but next year, its going to be Tanny’s job to lose, or keep.

Im thinking after we interview Hue Jackson, our search is going to be complete and we likely start making offers, it likely we have a new coach by mid next week. I think im more interest in seeing who our coords are, than the HC himself.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Tannehill’s numbers aren’t bad and not far off from last year. Not sure where this big drop off comes from. The entire team was a mess this year yet we expected him to soar above and beyond when we’re watching Aaron Rodgers struggle due to some of the same issues. It’s a team game and subconsciously I think people forget that when evaluating Tannehill.

Did he have some bad games? Yes! Did he not come through in the clutch a few times? Yes! Did he have a bad season? No!

I’m more concerned about the OL than Tannehill. We can’t have the same shit going down again next year or it will be more of the same. You can’t separate the two. But people do it all the time. I know the OL is bad but… no but, it’s a problem.

      • D's avatar D says:

Tim i could give a crap about numbers. He looked worse than last year. Im concerned about the OL as well, but im just as concerned about a guy we have invested so much in to be our next franchise QB not making it.

Also to your questions, yes he had some bad games, and he also had some really bad ones. He had some good ones too though for the fiarness of that question, but he isnt consisten even from play to play, much less drive to drive, quarter to quarter, half to half or God forbid game to game.

Did he not come through in the clutch, yes absolutely, he had some clutch plays here or there but they werent strung together enough to bring us back, and a lot of times even when not asked to be clutched he failed to string together plays that kept us in the game. Is this all his fault, no, he had OL issue, he had bad playcalling, but just like with the clutch plays he had from time to time, he had some drive killer fuck ups too.

Did he have a bad season… YES! He along with the whole team had a bad season. You cant elevated him above bieng part of the bad season they all had. You want to say not all things are his fault, so if the team has to share responsibility for him, he has to share responsibility for the season. Last time i looked you can have 4k yards and your team finishes 6-10 and you are not going to get talked about as MVP. He’s part of the problem this year. Period.

You are also right you cant separate the QB and OL issues, you cant yeah QB was bad but….but nothing he wasnt good he actually was responsible for several sacks this year, he needs to improve, no excuses.

I’m pretty sure it’s going to come down to whether Hue Jackson wants to coach here or not.
Tannenbaum is a putz but Jackson is his man and he can’t be formally interviewed yet so everything else is a dog and pony show.

    • D's avatar D says:

Jackson feels most right to me. He seems best mix of experience, with fresh mindset towards offensive strategies. His offense seemed to have a definite identity, and he seems to make most out of what he has.

  19. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

I’m not buying this Adam Gase crap in Miami since the media never get it right when they crown the new coach prior to any offers.

    • D's avatar D says:

Im thinking they are basically short changing us. I think from the get go most were saying Jackson, but i think a bunch dont think we can land him so they are saying Gase because they think he’s the next biggest name and we might end up getting second place. I think the target is Jackson, with someone like Smith or Shanahan as a fallback. I think Gase is a media thing.

I get some guys specialize on one side or the other, but sometimes they make it sound like that’s all they can do. When you become a HC, you oversee everything.
    ————————————–
Sometimes thats not too far off, but they do know what their offense or defense needs as far as an offensive scheme, they do know people who they can work with to bring a cohesion to both sides of the ball, in other words they may know dick abut the other side of the ball but they know how to run a team and get the right parts to delegate responsibilities to.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If you’re a football coach, you know football. Again, fans think they know everything about everything, yet coaches only know one thing. That’s all I was trying to say based on how writers portray some of these guys.

      • D's avatar D says:

They are at the position they are at for a reason, or they are being considered for that because people think they can run a team, not just one side of the ball. You have to have confidence in that or you wind up with no confidence in anyone.

  22. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

What exactly is this standoff in Oregon all about?

    • D's avatar D says:

I only know breifly about it, but basically a couple of ranchers set fires on some federally protected lands, they turned themselves over and went to jail. Protestor have come in and basically siezed this wild life refuge and refuse to let people in while they hold a standoff with police. They are asking for the release of the rancher and his son from prison before they release the wildlife preserve.

  23. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

D, I thought Tannehill was better throwing the ball down the field. Not bombs but more stretch the field plays. I don’t know how you expect a QB to excel and go to another level with the OL and offense we ran.

I also didn’t say he wasn’t part of the problem at times either but you suggested I am saying that. And some of your comments are absolute in nature and I disagree with it, because you are once again separating the two.

    • D's avatar D says:

I see you as separating the two as well man. You seem very insistant, that Tannehill couldnt have possibly played any better, when he certainly could have. Go back and read mine, i said OL was an issue, i said play calling was an issue, i also said Tanny was an issue. These arent separating the two its including the two but from your stance i certainly see why you cannot see this.

      • D's avatar D says:

Your statements also seem very absolute…it may be a perspective thing where both of us know what we mean but the text is coming across different to each other, but i really see no difference in what your saying and what i am.

  24. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I want vodka for some reason.

  25. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

D, I’ve said many times Tannehill can play better and needs to. But that’s a lot different than saying he was bad because he was only bad at times, not all season. There’s a lot of bad QB play out there you can look to that isn’t an issue with him. There was a lot wrong with our offense than putting it all on him has always been my point.

  26. D's avatar D says:

Tim i factor in his obstacles, i just dont factor out some of the things he did that was completely on him. I mean i guess if you wanted to “stretch” things you could say well he had to hurry his throws thats why he was inaccurate, but i saw plenty of plays he had time and still made bad throws. I saw plenty of times where he could have stepped up in the pocket or slid to the side to avoid pass rush but he stood there and took the sack or ignored the collapse to his right and got stripped. There are times the QB has to move, there are times he has to adjust his read progression and get to check down to avoid the sack.

I also see ya bringing up Rodgers and his failures this year. I dont put all that on his OL either, because its the same OL as last year. I dont put it all on not having Nelson (though i think that affects him more than his OL does) because he has Cobb and James both of which are receivers he has confidence in, and generally get open. He had a bad year, same as Tanny did, but just because they share this distinction doesn’t change the fact that Rodgers has shown plenty of times he can put the team on his shoulders and carry them. He also has generally shown in the past he makes the team look better, not just blending in with the rest of the mediocrity. They arent comparable yet, and if/when Tanny has years like Rodgers where he shows superstar stature, then a bad year will be much more forgivable. He hasn’t reached that point yet and making these comparisons i think shows the unbelievable bias you have for towards him.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I was just pointing out that even Rodgers looks average to bad without support. It has nothing to do with what he’s accomplished in the past. The same thing is happening to Brady.

D, also your assessments of what Tanny could have done is from a fan’s point of view. You don’t know what’s happening on any particular play. Sure there are some plays that look obvious and you say come on Ryan. But you say you saw times when he could have done better? You can say that about any player multiple times every week. Are we now holding him to perfection?

He also slides and gets out of the pocket a lot of the time. When he doesn’t which happens to all QBs, he gets the bad pocket presence stigma. There are hundreds of plays where he did exactly what you wanted him to do. Yes RT takes some sacks that are on him, but most are on the protection because that group can look like they’re not even there at times.

I so want to see us get the pass pro fixed and run a legit offense so we can see he has the ability to go to another level. I really believe he can.

  27. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    D

I think losing Jordy Nelson really hurt Rodgers and the Pack this year. Davante Adams just didn’t step up, and Cobb was doubled a lot, so that left James Jones, and Richard Rodgers. Cobb couldn’t do what he usually does because of the extra attention, and that + not having Nelson’s production really hurt.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The Packers were 6-0 and playing fine without Jordy Nelson who they haven’t had all season.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – Lacy was playing well early in the year. When that went away, so did their offense. It was too easy to defend Cobb and Jones. If they had Nelson, they would have been much more dangerous.

  30. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

tanny is not bad but he’s not that good either. All his stats the last couple of years scream average which is what he is. You can win with average as long as the rest of the team and coaching is well above average.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Or the rest of the team being above bad. Our OL was bad in pass pro, not even average, and our defense was bad, not even average.

Take into account our OL has been bad his entire career. But that gets left out all the time when trying to make the case against Tannehill. Happens all the time. We’re not talking a sub par OL in pass pro some of the time, we’re talking horrific at times.

I also blame the offensive schemes that puts more pressure on a young OL with no chemistry. Our entire offense needs to be fixed, not Ryan which is the new offseason phrase when discussing the HC search. “Who can fix Tannehill?” Well you might want to start with the guys who protect him. Duh!

      • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

he hasn’t won anything at any level. He’s average. Fix the rest of team and you can win with tanny. He won’t carry the team but he won’t destroy your chances either. With the right coach and a run heavy system you can win with tanny.

That’s because when they play at a high level most of their careers, they’re given that courtesy.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

And it’s bullshit! Tanny has had a sub par to bad OL his entire NFL career with a team that has had little success in years. Rodgers was developed on a successful team behind a HOF QB. So when that comes apart a bit you see how it can expose anyone.

comparing tannehill to rodgers is comical IMO. 2 different leagues.

Tanny should be compared to Alex Smith, palmer, cousins etc… The 2nd or 3rd tier QBs. He’s nowhere near brady, rodgers.

    • Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Cousins isn’t in the 1st tier?

      • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

cousins this year is what tanny was last year. Average QB playing for a 100m contract.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s not comparing them. It’s pointing out that even elite QBs struggle with the same issues Tannehill deals with. Why is this so hard to understand?

Brady would never have had the career he’s had if he started with the team’s Tanny has played on. He might not even be walking.

  40. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

You know how it is, there are so many things that factor into team play and individual accomplishments, it makes it impossible to fairly compare anyone really, but we all do it all the time.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I compare situations. Why is Rodger’s struggling? Because he can’t carry poor team play. But we’re asking Tannehill to do just that.

  41. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    tim,
I think what I said was pretty clear. Exactly what mike said. Tanny hasn’t won shit ever. Why should he get a pass for being average? Rodgers has been the best QB in the league the last few years so he gets a pass for having an average year. You don’t get that?

Did you add some tanny koolaid to your cereal this morning?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

nobody is saying tanny gets a pass for being average or even poor at times. they are saying why is he expected to be great (like a rodgers) when his team is struggling, when even a player like rodgers isnt great when the rest of his team is struggling.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I never sad that he needs to be Rodgers. I’ve been saying that tanny is who he is. He’s an average QB. you can win with avg QBs if you have a solid team and coaching around them. Tanny really doesn’t need to become someone else for us to win.

  44. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Boulder, didn’t mean to make it sound like I was taking my ball and going home. LOL

There was a disconnect in what I was saying and didn’t feel like repeating myself over and over. You and I were talking about two different things then you mocked me for something I wasn’t saying so it was one of those oy moments and I was hungry. LOL

FFR just stated exactly what I was saying.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I guess the difference in our points is that I think Tanny won’t become rodgers or brady no matter who he has around him. And he doesn’t need to be for us to win IMO

Fitzpatrick didn’t all of a sudden become elite. He’s in a system that doesn’t force him into mistakes. They tell him, hey if you don’t get a 1st down its ok. We punt and our great defense will get you the ball again. Or you don’t have to throw it 50 times for us to win. We can run the ball and if we punt its ok.

  45. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    boulder,

i wasnt stating anyone was saying anything. just was trying to explain what tim and some of us have said. that the ‘elite’ qbs look pretty damn average and cant carry a team when the rest of the team is playing bad.

and i do hope you are right that this team can win with tanny, i have said i think they can, but we really dont know if the whole team gets better if they can win with him. i hope so

  46. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Boulder, I’m not expecting Tannehill to become a Rodger’s level QB. My point was even a Rodgers can’t do what we’re asking Tannehill to overcome that with the same issues.

For the last few years I’ve read here we have shit coaching, average talent, a poor OL and idiotic play calling yet we ask Tannehill to rise above all that and carry us. LOL

  47. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    boulder,

i am not saying they cant, just saying it hasnt happened. i know around here you are supposed to be either pro or against tanny, i am neither. i still havent seen a complete team around him to make that decision. seen him play very good at times and i have seen games where you shake your head and think he is lost as a qb.

there are a few on here that expect a miracle, for him to perform above average when the rest of the team is below average, thats fine, i cant say i wouldnt want that too, but as stated above, when the elite cant do that i am not sure how he is suppose too.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I think I’m in the same boat as you. I want to see tanny on a team with a bigger focus on rushing the ball and also playing top 10 defense. Basically the team that wilson has been playing the last few years.

  48. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Boulder, you know what too, Brees wasn’t the elite Brees we know now in SD. He didn’t become that until he went to NO. He had one excellent season in SD and another good one but he became the Brees we know now in his 8th season on. You never know.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

true. you never know. Maybe with the right coach and scheme tanny can become more of a Franchize QB like brees.

  49. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    FFR,

I think what Boulder is saying as well is that Rodgers has shown in the past that he can elevate the team around him despite not being able to do it this year (to the same degree he did in the past). And because Tanny has never shown to do it (for whatever reason), then he can’t be compared to Rodgers until he can show to do the same.

Moreover, since RT doesn’t not have good pocket presence, he takes himself out of being able to make plays at times or at least the kind of plays the Eli Mannings of this world can do when they buy some extra time moving around in the pocket not to mention moving around in the pocket causes defenders to not track the QB properly and thus lose their assignment covering just enough to let the QB beat them.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

yup. That’s what I was trying to say. You said it much better 🙂

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Except nobody was comparing him to Rodgers as if they were equals. We’re saying even Rodgers struggles when the pass pro is bad and he’s getting hitting on every play.

I’d like to see RT with a better OL in front of him in a competent offense with logical play calling. We’d all get a better feel for who he is and can be. To me, his grade is incomplete because we haven’t built well enough around him.

  50. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

No matter what happens, this team will go no where unless they fix the defense.
Time and Time again you see ok offenses make it to the playoffs on the heels of great defenses.
Not much can be said about the other way around (great O overcoming bum defenses).

  51. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    al,

i got what boulder was saying.

and yes a qb can definitely help elevate a team. a qb can help make a good team great, or an avg team good. but no qb can make a poor team great and that is what we have seen from rodgers and brady this year. most think brees is elite, well the saints have sucked the last two years because the rest of the team sucks. i think the last two games we saw where tanny did elevate the team. one they lost cause the rest of the team sucked didnt elevate its play and the other they won cause the rest of the team did. i am sure there are just as many examples out there where the rest of the team elevated and he didnt too, before some of the haters want to go off on my last comment.

i am just saying it takes a whole team to be great, not just an elite qb

  52. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

‘And because Tanny has never shown to do it (for whatever reason), then he can’t be compared to Rodgers until he can show to do the same.’

and i think the point missed is no one is comparing tanny to rodgers when he is playing on a great team. but when rodgers or brady is playing behind a horrible o line and bad wr’s then you can compare the qb’s and basically they, rogders and brady, dont carry their team any more then tanny can carry a horrible team.

  53. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

I know the Fins are interviewing Doug Marrone but I didn’t realize he was a player for the Miami Dolphins back in 1987.
I guess I can see why Tannenbaum and Ross like him since he’s a NY guy (Bronx native; Cuse grad); was a OL coach w/ Jets under Herm Edwards in 2002-05 and then served as OC for Sean Payton (another Parcells guy) in NOLA from 06-08 but then again Payton calls all the plays there so the OC title is about as relevant as what Philbin’s was in GB under McCarthy.

Anyway, I saw this article on Marrone today over at SB Nation

    http://www.bigblueview.com/2016/1/8/10733810/giants-coaching-search-pros-and-cons-of-hiring-doug-marrone-buffalo-bills-syracuse

  54. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    al,

something i keep saying. the fins had arguably the best qb to ever play the game and he couldnt over come his teams horrible defense. so i agree with you on fixing this defense first.

  55. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    FFR,
The funny thing with elite QB are this…they only really push the elite play when needed to. When they are riding good teams; they dial it down.

  56. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Tim,
True but someone like Randy can point to Russell Wilson getting sacked the exact amount of times as RT with less dropped back to pass attempts but still maintaining an impressive 4:1 TD to INT ratio which is the true mark of elite.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s not all about sacks. SEA is also a superior team than us. They’re defense is1st against the run, 2nd against the pass and 1st in PA. LOL

  57. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Gotta have a good defense. It doesn’t have to be elite, but one that doesn’t always give up a 1st down on 3rd and 17. LOL

  58. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    FFR,
We can just look back at the Fins own history to qualify that the other parts need fixing…
If Fielder was enough to ‘make’ the playoffs; RT certainly is.
Hell just look at the Vikings with Bridgewater who didn’t really do crap this year.

    —————————————–
Only knock i have against him is coverage, he is very good against the run. Probably would require a 1st round pick to get.

I like Beckwith about the best, he’s probably second or third round guy, but there are a BUNCH of ILB prospects who can come in and start right away for us. I can think of about 6 prospects right now that wind up 2-4th round picks that all are good enough to at very least split snaps with a vet FA.

Of the FA’s i like Michael Wilhoite, Sean Weatherspoon, and Sam Acho. None of them are going to be more than about a 5mil per price tag, all in the prime of their careers.

Thanks for all the well wishes guys. I asked my brother not to contact me during the day, as I’d be teaching and didn’t want any bad news in the middle of class.

I’m saddened to say that it does not look good for my little niece. After experiencing a seizure, she was airlifted to a children’s hospital where she was placed on a series of antibiotics to fight the infection. Her condition deteriorated after that, and she suffered a series of mini strokes. She is currently hooked up to a breathing machine and a host of other machines to assist her. The doctors believe that once taken off those machines, she will not make it. The only prognosis for her moving forward is to be hooked up to machines the rest of her life, wheelchair and bed bound with no knowledge of who anyone is, and not being able to experience any emotions. It certainly is no way to live, and my brother and sister in law have made the difficult decision to end her suffering if it comes to that. My only hope now is that they don’t have to make that decision, and that it is left to a higher power. Again, thanks for the kind sentiments guys, it means a lot.

    Quarterback envy

I think the difference between the “shills” and the “haters” is that the shills give Tannehill the benefit of the doubt while haters refuse to. What it boils down to for me is this. Every football game I watch I see QBs throwing inaccurate passes that are caught and accurate passes that are dropped. Every single QB in the league throws “bad passes” but if their team wins it is glossed over and excused. The “Elite” QB’s are without argument better than the mean. How much better can be argued. How much is due to the prowl bowl WR catching those passes, etc. Winning is what matters and winning is a team thing.

Tom Brady is “elite” (gag, gulp) I see him throw fucking horribly inaccurate passes all the time. Gronk scoops them off the turf 2 yards away and then knocks down two three DB’s for a TD or jumps 4′ in the air to catch the pass. I don’t hear you guys saying “he sucks”

Brady has been a dink-in-dunker for the better part of a decade, but he is elite.

Tom Brady’s average passer rating over his first four years is 87.67 Tannehills is 85.20 Bradys is obviously better. But not much. Completion percentage? 61.75 for Brady 61.90 for Tannehill more accurate? (Hmmmmm) 6.97 yrd average for Brady 6.88 for Tannehill (3.24 inches per pass difference)
over his first four years Brady averaged 220 yards per game. Tannehill has averaged 241 per game.

In his first four years Brady had 52 interceptions. Tannehill 54
over his first four years Brady averaged 2.5 touchdowns more per year than Tannehill has.

Brady never broke 4000 yards his first 4 years

How much of the difference of the MINOR differences above can be attributed to the great teams Brady was on at the beginning of his career?

Yet Tannehill will never be a “good” quarterback, but because Brady has played on very good teams he has always been “great”

I await the But, but, but, but comments making excuses for Brady from the “haters” now

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Tannehill was also sacked 54 more times over his first four years.

Tom Brady has 876 rushing yards in his career. Tannehill has 901 oh, wait, there is an 11 year difference in their careers….Brady 1.7 yd per carry average. Tannehill 5.01 per rush average.

I am not saying Tannehill is better than Brady, but He is not far off the arch over the first four years playing with lesser talent that Brady played with in his first four but there is no hope four us… Tannehill will never be good.

By the way the same thing goes for Mannings stats vs Tannehill’s. Look at them your self. Can Tannehill perhaps not be good? or on the right arc?

  89. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I’m so sorry Brian. I am not a prayer, but I am sending positive vibes your way..

  90. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I have never watched Brady play and have been in awe of his pure skill. He’s a smart, tough competitor but he does not possess elite anything. The spread system that Charlie Weiss developed for him was great because he put together an offense he could succeed in – spread them out, throw lots of short passes relying on YAC, use the running game and wait for opportunistic plays on defense.

I remember a game back in 03 or 04 when the announcers said the Pats have run 25 straight shotgun plays. I remember it because I was thinking the same thing saying what’s going on? That was the beginning of the new NFL as we know it. It’s a copycat league. The difference now is they’ve been running that same system under the same HC with different coordinators to call the same plays for 12-13 years.

Rock, Tannehill also got thrown into the fire as a somewhat raw rook and Brady sat his first season. Then Brady relieved Bledsoe in his 2nd season and the rest is history.

What a lot of people forget is QBs get better in time, they don’t max out at 4 years, many of them hit their prime in their 7th through 10th years. Kinda like pitchers. They hone their craft.

If you put up RT’s stats without knowing who he is, everyone would say I’d take him. Then unveil the name and people say “oh it’s that awful Tannehill!” LOL
