The Wedge Scouting Report: Emmanuel Ogbah, DE

It has come to my attention that the Dolphins may not have a draft entirely compromised of linebackers.

In fact, maybe they use free agency to address linebacker.

Well, that thought hurts me deep in my pulsarspheres…but it’s a fact I have to accept.

So in my sadness I turned to an Earth Movie to wash away my troubles – Tombstone

A great movie about Wyatt Earp and his companions taking on the Cowboy known as –

Emmanuel Ogbah!

Ogbah4

Wyatt Earp came to the town of Tombstone and became the lawman of Tombstone.

But little did Earp know that a Cowboy from Nigeria would also come to town.

Earp thought the best way to preserve law and order was a high octane passing game.

Ogbah had different ideas as to what was right for Tombstone.

Ogbah3

The 6’4, 274 pound Cowboy tallied 10 sacks in 2014 and 12.5 in 2015.

He was pass rushing beast at Oklahoma State ruining Earp’s plan to rule the West with that ariel attack.

And when Ogbah gets to the quarterback, well he doesn’t exactly tickle the passer.

It helps that Ogbah is a fast big man.  He ran a 4.63 in the 40 yard dash!

Ogbah6

I’ve seen Ogbah compared to NFL pass rushers like Charles Johnson, Datone Jones and Vinnie Curry.

Some scouts think he might be a better run stopper than a pass rusher because he is not known for his explosiveness.

But I say to quarterbacks “Tell them Ogbah’s coming, and hell is coming with him!”

Ogbah5

Im my version of Tombstone, the Cowboy buries all the lawmen.

Okay, I took a few liberties with this version of Tombstone.  But I think you know where I am going with this.

If Ogbah was an Alien Weapon of Destruction.  Well in this case its more of a memorial….

Good prospect. Probably not worthy of #8 but don’t think he’ll be a 2nd rd option anymore either.

    Awesome job Piggy

LOL @ And when Ogbah gets to the quarterback, well he doesn’t exactly tickle the passer.

  4. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

So the Dolphins put the transition tag on Vernon. Why even bother? Either 1. Franchise tag him and guarantee we get something from another team if they want him. 2. Come to an extension agreement with him. (they had all of last year and this off season to negotiate) or 3. let him walk in free agency.

I just don’t see the point in letting other teams do your negotiating for you. It worked so well with Charles Clay last year……SMH different guys, but same old shit from the dolphins…

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I guess the transition tag gives you the option to determine if you want to match?

I’m glad we didn’t franchise the guy. I’m not sure what that would have netted in return but I don’t think a team would give up too much

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

The transition tag essentially gives you the right of last refusal which is okay imo with OV. Nothing to lose in doing that. We can decide if and when he gets an offer if we wish to match and if he doesn’t get a big offer then we have leverage over him to negotiate a new deal.

  5. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

The issue with the transition tag is some team can offer the same money as the Dolphins but structure it so we couldn’t work it in our cap. Like Buffalo did with Clay last year. Great that we get the chance to match. If we don’t have the cap space this year. (we don’t) then they can put a bunch of money in the first year of the contract and we won’t be able to do anything. I’m not as down on OV as some of you guys. I wish we could keep him…..

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

or at least gotten a draft pick or two in exchange for him.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I have been thinking let OV go the whole time
        so it doesn’t bother me

a pick would have been nice
but you get comp picks anyway – just 2 years from now

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

They could do that and if a team is willing to spend that kind of money for him then let him go. With the transition tag he is at 12.7 million next season. So if someone wants to spend more than that fine. In regards to Clay we didn’t get anything for him but it looks like the right move to have let him go. He is injury prone and while productive when healthy his injuries kept him out at the crucial playoff run stretch. He may never be the same player he was.

  6. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Rock, it’s basically the same with allowing him to walk in FA except you get the chance to match the deal. It allows you to see if the market for him based on what his agent says is for real.

Nobody gives up two 1st rd picks and then signs a player to a top contract.

  7. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Aroldis Chapman will be suspended for 30 games without pay, and he won’t appeal.

It’s not the number itself that bothers me with OV, it’s comparative to what others make. The salaries are always going to go up. Check this chart with OV’s transition tag. He’s not the player the two above him are. He should be more in that $8-10M range.

    Reply

He’s not Michael Bennett or several others either that are making less. But I see the upside in him with his age and most recent production. Production of which I think can be partly attributed to Suh getting dbl & tpl teams.
So that being said, I’m not offering him $12M+ per yr with the others we have to pay.

  9. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Tannenbum needs to start collecting embarrassing / incriminating pictures of other teams GM’s & owners like Bellicheat does. How else does he get other teams to make stupid trades with him the way he does? remember when he got a 1st round pick from Oakland for an old pass rusher with one year left on his contract? Who does that? Matt Cassel for two 2nd round picks?? He has his filming department spying on GM’s and Owners now instead of recording practices!

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I think it was the year he lost the first round pick for spy gate. He got a much higher pick in the same draft from Oakland I think.

  10. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

WOW, already more reports of voter fraud going on….SMH!

  11. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Does this OV tag thing mean we will let Miller walk because Gase knows Forte and thinks we can get him cheaper and accomplish what Gase needs from a RB or even change to draft a RB maybe even Elliott.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m not sure OV has anything to do with Miller. There are going to other cuts to free up some cap.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

      Naples, nice to see ya.
Ezekiel Elliot is getting major hype that he’ll even go in the late 1st round. We can’t go RB in any of the 1st 3 rounds…IMO.
I think the transition tag means they’re prepared to let OV walk, and not overpay, especially when that money can be used to retain Miller, add a solid DE, & maybe OG in FA too.
Plus this is a deep draft for DE’s. I think losing OV isn’t a killer.
Gase seems to really like Miller, and you can deny the age either. Forte is now at that just serviceable age, where Miller could be a guy that could hit home runs for Gase the next 4-5 years that he’s here as HC trying to remain longterm.

  12. D's avatar D says:

Think there is 0 chance we draft Elliot, and he would not be worth a first.

  13. dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

@MikeGarafolo: @Italianphinfan @DanielEliesen They can always trade him instead of matching the offer. That’s part of the plan.

    • D's avatar D says:

      No they can’t.

      • D's avatar D says:

The team trading would inherit the tag and all contract language within. Why would a team trade for a guy that they would have to match the offer of if someone in FA made an offer to him. Would be like losing picks with no assurance you wind up with the guy you traded for or have to potentially pay more than the tag to match. That would be dumb

  14. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I would think he transition tag in OV means we are more likely to sign Miller

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

Agreed. Contract demands are probably more inline w/ his production. I think Drew is smarter as an agent than Canter.

  15. D's avatar D says:

Animal house is such a fucking awesome movie

  16. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Piggy, meant to say kudos on the Ogbah scouting report by Wedge.
I really like this guy. He’s got a bright future. He’s done well being a raw player with limited experience, so I see a high ceiling with a guy that should be a 10yr pro.

    • D's avatar D says:

His game film shows a pretty inconsistent player though. His combine was great but he disappears game to game. I would take him in the second but not the first

  17. D's avatar D says:

Transition tag didn’t do much for us as far as a long term contract. It’s like a potential 12mil rental. If OV doesn’t want to take less he might feel obligated to sign it but he probably doesn’t work out a long term contract with us if he believes he is worth more. It did give us a little leverage though since if no action NE offers more he might be forced to reconsider his market value

  18. D's avatar D says:

Why would OV transition tag have anything to do with Miller?

  19. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    D, Ogbah’s senior year was 63 tkls 16.5 loss, 12.5 sacks, 3 FF 1 FR, 4 PD.
He won Big 12 DPOY. Not bad for a guy in his 3rd year.

  20. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Don’t worry. The only way Trump gets to be President is if Hillary is indicted and I think that is unlikely. Otherwise there is no way Trump wins a general election.

it is a real said time when one makes a comment like this. that a presidential candidate can be indicted. i dont think either of those fucks will effect my life but if himary is elected i feel very sorry for my kids or their kids if they ever have any. it will spend this country in a place where there is no recovering.

but hey, i mean how better to end a good thing then with a shemale.

I’m sure the Clinton & Bush crime families will do everything they can to get her elected. They’ve actually have already begun. Same with the BO admin & other multinationalist’s she’s tied to. They want her in a bad way. How sick is that. To hell with America 7 it’s citizens.

  22. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We can’t trade OV with the Transition tag. Wouldn’t we have tried to do that with Clay? Once FA starts he’s a UFA free to seek a contract with any team and all we have is the right to match it within 7 days. At least that’s how I believe it works.

  23. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

CBS’ Jason La Canfora has “heard” Broncos franchise player Von Miller is seeking $65-$70 million guaranteed in a long-term deal.
In other words, the 27-year-old (this month) Super Bowl MVP wants to be the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history. Ndamukong Suh got $60 million guaranteed last offseason. It’s an understandable ask from Miller, who has 60 sacks across 72 career games and personally wrecked Tom Brady and Cam Newton in the postseason. With Miller’s demands so momentous, it’s possible the Broncos forego a long-term deal and let him play out 2016 under the franchise tag.

  24. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    gdp,
Ok, thanks! I was thinking $3-4M a year for 4-5 years and guaranteeing about half of it. But, I usually adjust about a million or so up because I’m a Scrooge. Lol

How does 4 years at $15M with $6M guaranteed, sound? Too low?

That’s the way I thought it went it. Or can someone makes a deal that he agree’s to in earnest, and they trade Miami a pick or player so they can not be caught in a bidding war for him.

  27. Ken's avatar Ken says:

True enough FFR. It’s a sad state of Presidential politics with the current crop running from both parties. Republican party has no one to blame but themselves for this situation. After 2012 they did a huge post mortem study on why they lost and they doing essentially everything that the study said not to do.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Agreed. We talk about blowing teams up, that party needs to be blown up.

At least I know what the Democrats are for the most part and what they stand for. Their supporters are usually on the same page on most policies at least from my experience. Republicans are all over the place with so many factions.

I guess I would classify myself as a socially liberal Republican representing one of those factions. But there really is no place in it for me because of the majority right wing social ideology. I’m for smaller overall government with a strong defense, modern infrastructure and an up to date education system. But that’s really where I want my tax dollars to end. I’m not against helping people get back on their feet, but I’m not for allowing it to be a lifestyle either. I think it does everyone a disservice.

We are so out of control with borrowing and spending though. It’s a shame.

  28. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    Ken,
The GOP has been propping up their corrupt candidates as always, same with the Dems.
Then comes along a guy that didn’t need propping up by special international interest!
oops, now they are scrambling to get Trump out of contention, by rigging the convention delegates, or if they can do that, then I fear by force.
They haven’t had someone force their hand like this in a very long time.
Citizens are waking the F Up finally. Good people are sick of the shit sandwiches they’ve been fed for too long.
Voting for Trump is a referendum against the status quo!

  29. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I think we would all be surprised by how many previous presidents and politicians could have been charged with serious charges of one sort or another all throughout history. The difference is that in our day and age…those things are revealed to the World. Go read about our former presidents….they were not without serious warts and shameful and criminal behavior. Don’t trust any of them! Lol

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Very true. Which is one reason why Hillary’s email scandal doesn’t bother me so much. I think she is a witch of a human being but that doesn’t necessarily mean she can’t be an effective politician.

6+M? Seriously? That’s gotta put him in the top 10 at the least, doesn’t it?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Randy, I know you don’t think Miller is special but I and many others do. Do you know for a back who had one of the lower touches per game averages, he lead the league is forcing missed tackles and yards after initial contact? Add that to his explosiveness and he is a top back. He’s been finding a lot daylight the last year and a half.

  31. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

  32. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Tim:
You are exactly right on the problems in the Repubican party. It has become so splintered that it is pulling itself apart. This is the fall out of the Reagan coalition of the social conservatives from the south and the fiscal conservatives who are not necessarily socially conservative. It worked for a while but changing demographics and changing social mores are making it difficult for the Republicans to keep those 2 bases satisfied.

  33. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

‘At least I know what the Democrats are for the most part and what they stand for.’

yep, they are pretty simple. ‘i will take from those people that work for a living, those mean ole rich people and i will give to the masses who just dont do anything. dont worry you dont need to be a valuable member of society we will make the rich pay’

can kind of see why they constantly get elected.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Pretty much. Some people do believe in a more commune way of thinking. I don’t hate them for it. But in a free country you can’t force that on anyone and that’s what we do. I have a lot of issues with taxation and subsidization. To me free markets are organic and run themselves. It’s when we start meddling with them both illegally and legally we fuck things up.

It’s like pissing in the wind because Trump doesn’t have a prayer in a general election. I was not endorsing one candidate over the other.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I get what you’re saying. I sometimes listen to Mark Levin on the way home and he said the same thing. Hillary wins. And for those who don’t know who Mark Levin is, he’s a very conservative radio talk show host who worked for Reagan. I listen to him because he’s smart, even if he’s bias in his ideology. He’s not a nutcase like Limbaugh.

  35. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t think the Republican party’s problem is different factions, I think it’s that they still hold true to the right wing bullshit. I’m admittedly more conservative politically, but the abortion issue, and some of the socio-religious issues don’t jibe with me. I like smaller government and I sure as hell like reforming welfare and repealing Obamacare. They need to be more moderate or they will forever be looking at Democratic Presidents.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

But what you are describing is the factionalism in the Republican party. The social conservatives vs. the fiscal conservatives.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I was just going to say that. They’re not on the same page and that’s why they get shit candidates.

  36. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
Yeah, I think he’s a good back but nothing special. I don’t think his numbers are indicative of how he will perform over the next 5 years. I think they’ll average out with more touches. It’s also the position for me as far as the decreasing value of RBs.
    ***
But, with that said, I’d like to keep him. I just don’t know if he’s worth top 10 money. Maybe he is.

  37. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Tim, yes exactly. I’ve been really thinking it out with a lot of time spent researching….probably too much time on it….lol
But the people that bash his candidacy are knee jerk reactionaries as usual.
I’ve said before. I could never stand the guy before as a regular citizen. But his platform and leadership qualities seem to be resonating well.
But the single biggest factor for me, is how riled up the global elitists are, here and abroad. Even foreign leaders in government are already raising hell, and he hasn’t even won the part nominee yet.
That’s the kinda guy I’ve been seeking for decades. A guy with the balls to push back against TPTB. They’ve had it too easy for far too long, and this TPP deal, the Obamacare deal, the global warming deal, the Fed & central banking cabals are all nervous that they’ll lose the huge gains that they’ve set in place for themselves at the peril of the ordinary Joe.

Rattle their cages Donald, rattle their cages.!!! I Love it!

Even if Trump can only accomplish 1/3 of what he’s proposing, it will be 1000x better than what any of the others will ever do, that’s good for the common citizens.

  38. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

Mitt Romney was much more moderate than the final product he became as he was shaped by the party. I think Rubio is as well, but now he comes off toeing the Republican line.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

        Mike E:
Exactly. That is the conundrum for the Republican Party. To appease it’s base their last 2 major candidate who are both pretty moderate guys had to go so far to the right to win the primary that they lost the moderate vote in the general election. But it is the pandering to the socially conservative base that is tearing the party apart.

TOMORROW’s going to be a special day for FAU baseball fans. –The undefeated 7-0 Owls travel about 40 miles north to the spring training headquarters of the Miami Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals in Jupiter, Florida. They’ll play the Cardinals an exhibition game, featuring some of St. Louis’s top minor league players (and a couple in the majors) against the Owls. What makes this special is the starting pitcher for the Cards will be Austin Gomber, a star on last season’s FAU baseball team, who is competing for a spot on THIS YEAR’s Cardinals staff!! –You can bet several of FAU’s upper classmen who played with Gomber last year would LOVE to “light him up” in this exhibition contest. For their part, FAU will start a pitcher who has not pitched so far this season, so he’ll likely have his hands full when facing the pros!! But it’s quite an advertisement for our program, none the less. Big time scouts, not just from the Cards and the Marlins, but from several other major league clubs (including the Mets, Yankees, Phillies and Braves) will be in the stands looking at FAU’s abundance of talent and wondering which kid would work best in their program. I know several parents of FAU players will be in the stands, nervously watching their kids perform. It is one of the many reasons why I love college baseball.

Ken, I get you, I really do. But that’s a over used cliche’ at this point. Those standards, & the economy has been going down steadily. The economy is fragily propped up by the Feds running the printing press all night long with their fiat money. Wall St is propped up by lots of smoke n mirrors. The whole thing is a house of cards….and for us having rights guaranteed by the constitution, Ha, we did, but that’s been & is being slowly stripped away.

I also feel the accusations of who Trump insulted is overly sensitive propaganda. It’s easy to throw out those kinds of headlines without the substance attached to it. I’ve watched Trump campaign and debate a few times now and never came away thinking he was a bigot. He was talking about policies on matters that effect those groups one way or the other. He wasn’t insulting the people at their core.

You have bought into the propaganda machine. Our economy is still the standard by which other countries wish to aspire too. Our constitution is still in force and functioning. I don’t see America as failing. I see flaws but I will take our flaws over any other country’s flaws.
    Reply

What propaganda machine? I’ve studied hard facts. The reason our economy is the standard by which others aspire to is because the dollar is still the world reserve currency, but it’s on it’s last legs as major countries are starting to trade for their major commodities in other than the US dollar.
Yes our constitution is still in place and functioning overall, but it’s getting peeled away like an onion & changed year after year. The business & social divide is reaching all time highs.
So is every other country, cause it’s become we’ve become globally intertwined. As we fall, so will they. Guess we’re already seeing that NWO thingy going thru birth pangs. 😉

The athletic department revealed that “Coach Mac” is being treated for cancer and his doctors advised him not to travel long distances for a while. But I’ll bet you a team of horses couldn’t keep him away from tomorrow’s game against the St. Louis Cards!! He’ll be there, along with his wife, Katrina, the long standing Sports Information Director, to do what he can during the game. I’m not sure the exact extent of the coach’s problem, but I DO KNOW his players will bust their collective asses to make this season a very successful one. Why is that silly

        Imagine if he was president

Imagine if he wrote a cease a desist letter and threatened to sue anyone who critized him as president

Is that your vision of democracy

If you insult or say something about a president or a candidate they can sue you?

Do you realize how gof awfully unamerican it is to try to threaten another candidate with lawsuits for defamation?

We as voters des ever to hear everything about a person we may or may not vote for

Trying to stop that by threat of lawsuit spits on everything that is the democratic process

You are not thinking this true GDP
Think about how bad that is – to suppress speech, of a candidate, in the middle of a run for president

That is how Trump functions (and I should know)

And do not undermine my 1st amendment argument
You should know (and I’m sure the lawyers here will agree) that defamation is considered an exception to the 1st amendment

        Think about it
What if Trump threatened to sue everyone who spoke about him in a manner he didn’t like if he was president

        That is not democracy

It’s a big deal to be sued by the attorney general of NY for FRAUD because you set up a bs university and forced young people to go in debt for your own profit

It’s a big deal to file bankruptcy (for your Corp) and almost bankrupt a city and walk away and still be filthy rich!
