The Wedge Scouting Report: Deion Jones, LB

a boo boo booo boo bah

a weee weee weee wah

Oh hey there…just ignore the baby talk its not for you…Its for this little cutie

WedewithB abyAlien

Adorable isn’t he!

These little Corozar Bay Moon Babies are the cuties things in the universe

a boo boo boo bah…(Wedge shakes a rattle)

Mine?  No no.  I picked this little guy up and about 3000 more as my latest weapon.

You see, the idea is you land on an unsuspecting planet you want to destroy and you give them the “please take my baby” bit.  Who can resist?  Look how adorable he is with his big sad eyes.  Then you fly off and leave the baby behind.

Then after dark…

BabySpaceAlien in Space

Its a whole different baby

On average A Corozar Bay Moon Baby can eat about 60 square miles, inhabited or not, in a 48 hour period.  Pretty impressive!  These little guys have a rabid appetite.

So you have to make a few landings on the planet of you want it devoured within a week.

These babies and there appetite remind me of the attacking linebacker I want the Dolphins to draft.

DionJones6

Deion Jones is one of those linebackers.

The LSU Linebacker was a force for the Tigers in 2015.

Its easy to miss talent like Jones on a talented team like LSU.

LSU puts so much talent in the NFL you should not overlook anyone on their roster.

DionJones5

The 6’1 222 pund linebacker might seem small to some, but that did not stop him from racking up 100 tackles, 13.5 for a loss.

That was his only year starting for LSU.  Jones didn’t start until Kwon Alexander left for the NFL in 2015.  Hey Kown Alexander?  Didn’t I do a scouting report on him last year?

Yep!  And ironically many scouts compare Jones to Alexander.

NCAA Football: Louisiana State at Mississippi State

At the combine Jones caught the attention of the NFL by running a 4.59 40 yard dash.

He also had a 33 inch vertical jump and a 120 inch broad jump at the combine.

But it was his pro day that really set him apart and has him moving up[ the boards.

Deion Jones ran a blazing 4.38 40 yard dash at his pro day.  WOW!

He also upped his vertical jump by 2 1/2 inches and did 18 reps on the bench press.

DionJones2

I know some Dolfans are looking forward to drafting Jones on day 3 of the draft.

But the secret is out.

I’m expecting Deion Jones to be drafted by the time round 3 is over.

So if the Dolphins want this attacking linebacker – they will have to make that move early.

DionJones4

Just like the people who adopt this adorable baby should get the fuck off their planet before it gets dark!

If Deion Jones was an alien weapon of destruction…

he would be the deadly Corozar Bay Moon Baby!

JonesMoonBaby

Lookout NFL!

If you don’t trust Bradford to be your long term QB, you draft his replacement NOW. You don’t wait until you need one. You bring a young guy in and groom him to step in in a year or two.
    Reply

WTF? No, you don’t extend him at all if you have no confidence in Bradford.

  2. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Maybe the Eagles like Goff and/or Wentz better than the QBs available next year.

    • D's avatar D says:

Chip Kelly is pretty damn polished, after another season at the helm he is going to be on their level. Deshaun Watson is probably there already. Kayaa seems to be proving his merit at the U though i dont know if i thin he is on their level yet, im still looking at him. Faulk im not sure about either.

You are right though my evaluation and theres may be different and maybe they felt the need to strike now, i just find it hard to believe what the gave up could ever really make sense for what they got. Probably wont know until end of the year next year.

Also, im a pretty conservative draft guy, im not big on trading up, without the team is pretty solid, oesnt have many needs, and the guy we are getting makes sense for the trade. Giving up this years 1st, and all the rest of it, minus the next year’s first, and i think it would make sense to me, giving up that other first along with all your picks between pick 2 and pick 79 really hurts them for putting people in place to help Goff be successful, as well as taking away next years 1 means they miss out on putting more quality around him the second year. It really just doesn’t make sense. Lynch at 8 (even though i consider that too high for him), giving up nothing, makes WAY more sense given what QB structure they currently have. Most teams that make that kind of trade have nothing to fallback on they have to make that trade, it makes more sense what the Rams did and i think they over paid as well.

Hey, I’m not saying I agree with what the Eagles have done. I’m just trying to understand it. Lol
    ***
I do think they could be thinking they draft a guy this year and don’t have to worry about playing him for a couple years. Extending Bradford doesn’t mean that can’t happen. They could even envision trading him…especially if he plays ok. It could be a win-win for them if the QB they draft develops nicely. I just keep going back to how do you justify giving up they many picks for anything but a QB?

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

      Yeah, that’s the ticket.

    • D's avatar D says:

Yeah i was about to post that earlier, i think it would have made more sense if the trade included Bradford and possible they keep one of those thirds or didnt include the 2018 second rounder…. then you see, this is them going after their new starter, extending Bradford as if to say he’s going to be our guy then making a move that usually would be for a team getting a starter…they just dont match up.

its probably more often than not

actually, no it’s only been 7 times in the history of the NFL.

  6. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    D,
I never like these big trades. It doesn’t seem like a good trade for the Eagles because they have a number of needs. But, they must have a plan. I think only guys like Marino or Elway are worth trades like this, but the NFL is so nuts over finding that “franchise QB” that they’re willing to hamstring themselves to get one. It just points to how QB-centric the NFL is…and how much they value them over every single other position.

  7. Randy's avatar Randy says:

The good thing for us is that this may push the next QB up higher and another guy gets pushed down to us. Who’s the next best QB?

  8. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think it’s so very strange that 2 teams traded their entire team away in a draft where there was absolutely no clear cut #1 pick, and clearly no stud QB. I really don’t get it, and it reeks of desperation to take Wentz and Goff at #1 and #2. The best players in this draft are probably Jalen Ramsey and Laremy Tunsil. Go figure . . .

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Not disagreeing, just we’re seeing it more and more. It also shows you that teams feel you can make up for lost draft picks by using FAs.

  17. D's avatar D says:

Lynch is next best Randy, but like Tannehill he is raw, he doesnt have the game count under his belt and his skills in certain areas are really raw. He is one of those guys though because of his size, arm strength, general athletic ability, etc is though to have the highest potential for being a franchise player in the next few years. You know how that goes, it really depends on his development program and him emotionally/cerebreally matching up with his physical potential, so its really a who knows.

Conner Cook is the well refined guy, makes good decisions, had a decent arm, etc etc. He just doesn’t come off the books as a beast in the making, he seems fairly limited physically speaking so his potential is lower even though his NFL readiness is higher.

Then there is Hackenberg who looks the part of a stud NFL QB, he’s very prototypical pro style passer, but raw is almost a understatement and i hear he is attitude is kinda poor.

Dak Prescott is very football smart, he has a pretty decent arm, throws with zip, but he’s a little bit smaller and has been branded with the label of hybrid QB. He’s better than most and impressive to me was at the Senior Bowl, he was the only QB calling in the plays from the sideline, showing you that at least one NFL team thinks he is a next level guy. I actually think he is much better than there is a perception of him.

Thats my next 4 guys, there are a lot of next next level guys who have potential, but im not sure any of them ever step on the field as a starter.

Outdoor urinal at Mission Dolores Park in San Francisco.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — A conservative group Friday threatened to sue the city of San Francisco over an outdoor urinal installed during a recent upgrade at Dolores Park.

The urinal near a J-Church light-rail line stop on the edge of the park, which consists of a semi-circular screen and a drain into the sewer system, violates the privacy rights of both users and those forced to watch them, discriminates against women and the disabled and poses a public health risk, according to a letter sent to the city by the Pacific Justice Institute, a conservative legal defense nonprofit.

The urinal, or “pissoir,” was installed as part of an extensive $20.5 million renovation project at Dolores Park just completed last month.

  25. D's avatar D says:

    Rock,
Thats kinda what i was saying though, you are comparing him to what he turned out to be, you cant compare these guys to Luck now you have to Luck then and what Luck was seen as coming out of college is a sure fire stud. I still think the guy is good but you are right, he hasn’t turned out anything near what was expected, especially with what happened last year. Im not Lucklicker but his evaluation coming out of college was WAY higher than these guys evaluated this year were by the same evaluators.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

That was my point when I said it. We all remember the “Suck for Luck” embarrassment the NFL product had to endure….Goodell should have made them forfeit their pick. That was disgraceful.

Assuming the pissior is in correlation to the Target thing announced today?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

      What’s that?

      • D's avatar D says:

Target decided today that a person can use whichever restroom they wish at their stores if they do not identify with the gender specifically assigned for their physiology, ie males that identify as females may use the female facilities and vice versa.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Oh okay. Just don’t become a rapist now because that’s what everyone is concerned about. LOL

  27. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

You know what is strange…..I just looked at ALL the QB stats on ESPN & NFL.Com and Winning isn’t one of them…..Hmmmmmm

  28. D's avatar D says:

My personal feeling on the Target rule is it is violating even more people’s right to open it up like that and open things up to potential risks. I think if they intend to make bathrooms gender neutral then bathrooms must all be single units (one in one out) or they must provide a gender neutral bathroom for those who who do not wish to identify with what physically they are.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Most public bathrooms are like that. But unisex bathrooms aren’t anything new. Most large public bathrooms with multiple stalls etc. are at stadiums and airports and are usually very crowded so it’s not a great stalking ground. Like everything, it will evolve after some experimentation.

Then again, you don’t have to use the public bathroom. I usually try to avoid them because I’d rather not walk around in piss and smell other people’s shit.. LOL

      • D's avatar D says:

Unisex bathrooms in my experience arent multi stall bathrooms though. They are basically turning their multi-stall bathrooms into unisex, which to me opens the doors for a guy who may be up to no good to dress as a woman and walk right in… As a male, im not overly concerned with it, though the urinal situation might be a little awkward when a woman walks up in there. As a woman, though i would expect they would feel very apprehensive having a man in their bathroom. Just for that reason i feel its a loss f their rights to safety and security, for the sake of the feelings of someone who doesnt want to identify as one thing or the other….

      • D's avatar D says:

Again, i feel open to accommodating their wishes to not have to identify as something they feel they arent, i just think a much better method for handling it should be found so as not to obstruct the rights of others. I feel certain this is a court ruling in the making.

I just dont see the point of going the path of most resistance when there are suitable alternatives.

Panthers rescinded CB Josh Norman’s franchise tag, making him a free agent.
“After a number of conversations with Josh’s agent, we realized that a long-term deal was not attainable,” GM Dave Gettleman said in a statement. “We thank Josh for all his contributions and truly wish him well.” The stunning announcement makes it clear the Panthers aren’t just rescinding Norman’s tag, but moving on altogether. There would almost certainly seem to be more than meets the eye here, as Norman was one of the league’s best players in 2015, and would have made an affordable $13.952 million under the franchise tag. If there’s not, and this is a simple matter of the Panthers moving on from a player they determined would no longer be with the team past 2016, Norman will become the subject of a feeding frenzy on the open market.

We have about 14mil to play with, taking out what we will need for the rookie class, figure out whether you want to go vet or draft and then make an offer.

Tim i just wonder why you are being defensive here. Do you truly have no belief that anything does or could happen in a public restroom if you start mixing different sexes into them or is this some other issue you have with having an alternative to what is being proposed? Or is this some personal judgment towards me and my reasoning for having a more compromising alternative?

    • D's avatar D says:

To refute what you are saying about the crime aspect, a guy dressed up like a woman still looks like a guy, and if he is noticed, people would go, by the defining rules of the day, man does not belong in woman’s bathroom, and violation of said rules would in turn have someone report something that should be. Result, security goes in and likely prevents anything from happening, if indeed that is what was going to go down and for the life of me i cant see what good was coming from that guy dressing like a woman to go in there. Now enter a rule change where men dressed as women are allowed to go into that restroom, same scenario, the guy would not be reported and if something were to happen, he MAY get caught but after the violation has occurred. This in turn is a loss of security even if the previous rule couldn’t fully guarantee it not happening previously.

Im also not saying the transgender person is the one up to no good, im saying the rule for transgender to use the bathroom of the sex opposite to what they actually are opens the vulnerability for this to happen, most likely by a fully heterosexual but very disturbed male. They could also be in danger themselves, for example a male bathroom, female transgender in there, who is to say that he wouldnt do something to her, there are hateful evil people out there man.

Also yeah things happen in public bathrooms all the time, its naive to think it doesn’t. Not too long ago here in Mobile there was a dude dressing up like a woman, going into the woman’s bathroom and then taking pictures of little girls when they used the restroom. He got away with it a couple times before they caught him and they caught him because someone notice it was a man dressed as a woman and reported it. At least it was just photos but it could have been worse. Had it been that he could have been viewed as a transgender, and that not been weird, then he could have gotten away with until someone actually noticed he was snapping the pictures from over the stall.

We quickly got security, and he pointed his flashlight every place except where the rape was taking place, until the 4 guys ran off.

I know it’s just one time, but how often is security on the ball? When I worked in a casino in Tahoe those guys used to go flying down the hall when there was a fight in the night club, but most security officers are old or over weight, or somewhat whimpy.

I just saw a guy knock a guy out in the middle of a busy street yesterday while ordering some lunch. The guy was laying in the street unconscious for a few minutes with cars driving around him before getting up and looking like a boxer who still doesn’t have his legs. 84. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Norman immediately becomes an unrestricted free agent.
“After a number of conversations with Josh’s agent we realized that a long-term deal was not attainable,” general manager Dave Gettleman said in a statement. “We have decided to rescind the franchise tag freeing Josh to immediately become a UFA. We thank Josh for all his contributions and truly wish him well.”

Norman wasn’t in a talking move shortly after the development was announced.
“Man, I just don’t feel like talking about it right now,” Norman told the Associated Press.

It’s a stunning turn of events after Gettleman insisted all offseason he didn’t believe in drafting and developing players “for other teams.” The Panthers will now walk away from the 28-year-old corner.

Still, don’t expect Norman to be on the open market for long — a source informed of the situation told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that teams started contacting Norman within an hour of the Panthers’ announcement.

Norman burst onto the scene in 2015, with his first All-Pro season, compiling four interceptions and 19 passes defenses. Norman allowed a 60.9 passer rating in coverage 2015, the 15th-lowest passer rating allowed among qualifying cornerbacks last season.

To rescind the tag a week before the NFL draft is unprecedented.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Panthers GM Gettleman’s belief in regards to “shutdown corners,” especially in the Panthers’ system, could also shed some light on the decision.

“Shutdown corner is a misnomer. There’s very few of them. It’s so hard. You can’t cover forever,” the GM told Black and Blue Review’s Bill Voth last season. “If there’s no pass rush, there’s no shutdown corners.”.

Amen. This is why I’m glad we’ve done a lot to address our DL, and will still likely draft a DE early as well.
VJ wants to be aggressive up front, & press on the boundaries creating more time for the DL to get to the QB. I like it. Bring the heat!

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Our DBs looked great at times last yr, especially in preseason with the first unit on the field, but once the pressure was gone they were exposed.

When you have a Revis type on one side it allows you to lock down the rest of the field. Dion did the same thing.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’ve been saying the #1 corner is an overrated thing. People act like most teams have their Deion Sanders and if you’re one of the teams who doesn’t you have to find one. That’s not the case. You want two solid corners, not just one who’s great and some other guy. Great players don’t grow on trees.

During draft time lots of prospects are overvalued. This is not a top blue chip draft. It’s solid all around but very few projected franchise players if any. Tunsil will probably be a very good LT for a decade if he can hold up that long. Ramsey could be special. I’m not sold on Jack or anyone else as a sure thing.

  86. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Citing “team and league sources,” WFNZ Charlotte’s Bill Voth reports the Panthers rescinded CB Josh Norman’s franchise tag because a long-term deal “wasn’t getting done,” they anticipated him becoming a distraction during a forthcoming holdout, and Carolina wants to spend big to retain other players.
Atop the list of “other players” are DTs Kawann Short and Star Lotulelei. Short is entering a contract year, while Lotulelei is signed for two more years. Norman was believed to be weighing a potentially lengthy holdout, and was apparently unwilling to sign his franchise tender, preventing a trade. Per Voth, the Panthers were offering Norman $11 million per year, but he wanted $15 to $16 million annually. Carolina can now recoup a 2017 third-round compensatory draft pick if Norman signs a big deal elsewhere. (He will.)

  96. We could also either trade or cut Cam Wake and free up a ton of cap space.

I’d like to see if Wake at 34 years old can be a Trace Armstrong/Kevin Green type situational pass rusher at this stage in his career. He could be an 8-10 sack guy on half the snaps if you just put him those situations. Having a good offense and scoring points would help with that. 🙂

      • he only had 9 tackles in the first 7 games of the season. Granted, he had 7 sacks but it’s going to be interesting to see if they keep him at that salary. He already said he’s not taking a pay cut and he’s one of the guys they can either trade or let go to free up some needed cap space. he’s in the last yr of his contract and if they don’t think they’ll be re-signing him after this season anyway due to his age there’s a strong possibility he’s let go.
Plus, if they do keep him and he’s injured again and lost for the season that’s cap money that’s wasted on an injured player. At his age, injury is more likely than not.
