Welcome to the Dolphins, now where are you going to play?

dolphins_flag

What a draft, what an off season! The Dolphins finally flipped the script and used the Free Agency period to fill glaring holes rather than try to make a splash. They drafted players to fit a system being installed rather than drafting good talent but not necessarily a scheme fit as we saw so many times in the past. Actually this is the third straight very good draft which is unusual for the Dolphins. Coach Gase is a modern day offensive minded coach which means he is going to pass the ball, likely, more than he’ll run it. In comes the best offensive lineman in the draft followed by a bunch of potential play makers who will fit in nicely with the play makers already on the team. The aggressive Defense to be installed needs a strong and aggressive defensive line to get to opposing quarterbacks quickly so that cover corners aren’t left to cover one on one for five seconds. In comes an aggressive sacker in Mario Williams and veteran Andre Branch. Then of course the addition of bigger corners such as Maxwell who came via trade and the young Xavien Howard from the draft. However an argument can be made for almost every player picked up as to where they will play.

Let’s start with the Defense. The significant players added were :

Mario Williams 3tktpgf– DE – Williams has flexibility across the D-line particularly at both DE positions. So will he play RDE or LDE, will he start on the left and move to the right to bring Wake in to rush the passer, perhaps he plays mainly on the right and doesn’t switch around much at all.

Andre Branch – DE – Same situation with Branch as with Mario, is Branch an early down run-stopper who gives way to Wake and Williams on passing downs?usa-today-9012487-0

Byron Maxell – CB – Expected to be the number one Corner but Byron is a player with flexibility as well, should  one of the other CB’s stand out maybe Maxwell gets moved around situationally.

Kiko Alonso – LB – Middle Linebacker right? Probably and most likely but there is the chance he plays outside although less likely now than before the draft when EVERYONE thought we’d draft a  Linebacker maybe even a MLB.

Isa Abdul-Quddus – S – OK he’s a Safety, but is he a starter or a role player and ST ace?

Xavien Howard – CB – Will the rookie show enough to earjsheltonxavienhowardgoodyearcottonmlzkjorpspwlrn the spot opposite Maxwell? If not what sort of role will he play? Back-up, Nickel, let’s hope the rookie takes care of business.

Chris Jones – DT  – A productive run stopper who comes to a crowded position. Suh will play the majority of snaps so Jones will battle for time with the veteran Earl Mitchell and last year’s second round pick, Jordan Phillips among a host of others. Can Jones take some snaps at DE potentially?

Jordan Lucas – DB – Listed as simply DB on the teams official roster they don’t even know if he’s a Safety or a CB. Best of luck to this rookie we can only hope that he is a player that will make his presence known.

The significant players added to the offense:

Brandon Doughty – QB – LOL, jbb

Laremy Tunsil – T – The best Olineman in the draft (we can say that because we drafted him) but will he start his career as a Guard or move a vet off of one of the Tackle spots?

790f93561c3f3284Kenyan Drake – RB – Is this guy an every down back? Likely not going to be asked to be but does he become a third down back or does he split carries with Ajayi? Will he be a kick returner and supplant Jarvis Landry from that role?

Leonte Carroo -WR – What the heck is this guy going to do? Does he go in the slot and allow Jarvis to work more on the outside? Does he push for time as a starter and play on the edge. This is a good looking rookie and with Jarvis here it will be hard for him to have the similar impact Jarvis had but there should be ample opportunity for this rookie to turn some heads.

Jakeem Grant
– WR – Good things come in small packages, possibly the most exciting new player to the team. Already naming rights wars have begun. Speed, elusiveness, quickness, incredible poar-151109495wer and a spirited drive that may prove to be a huge force in this team clearing the hurdle of nobody to contender. We see 5’6 and 170 pounds, Jakeem sees himself as one of the biggest strongest guys on the field. You gonna tell him he isn’t? I didn’t think so. But what will he do? Slot, Hback, returner, deep threat. Who cares just get in the endzone grANTman ©.

Griff Whalen – WR –  Up until the draft this FA pick up looked like a 4th or 5th receiver who came to the team with experience and knowledge of OC Christenson’s offense but he may have been out talented as the draft results came in. It will be a tough battle for a spot as a 6th now.bushrod_inside052514

Jermon Bushrod – T – FA acquisition who has only played as a Tackle but this vet may be able to win a starting position as a Guard. Or is he here as insurance only for the T position?

Sam Young – T – Same as Bushrod, but Young would appear to be the one who is in fact a mere T backup. He does however add needed depth and keeps Fox and Columbo out of football.

Thomas Duarte – TE – Now I think everyone has to temper expectations with this kid due to size and the uphill battle any 7th rounder faces as he enters the league but did you see his highlight clips? Dude can run and catch the ball and he makes people miss. He shows a lot of promise thus far.

The Defensive additions are made up of mostly veterans with Williams as the biggest name acquisition but even he came from a team that had just cut him so we didn’t splurge hugely for even him even though he pocketed a handsome sum. The thinking for the defense was to add vet’s who could come in and lock down positions and make the D functional and hopefully better than last season.

The Offense got an infusion of spices from a variety of angles but mostly with drafted playmakers. The offensive line might not be so offensive anymore with the additions made with Tunsil, Bushrod and Young to go along with Turner and Douglas who show promise. Drake and Ajayi make for a very young but talented 1-2 punch in the back5d0b29be76554a6b80ed1b7088a974ba-fc32dc17e8b34938a224936aa6c36752-0field while Carroo and Grant add to the arsenal that already includes Jarvis Landry and the emerging Devante Parker.

The scouting is done, the picks are in now everything gets handed to a shiny new rookie Head Coach. Coach and his staff will have to make the tough decisions about who plays where and stays or goes. All we can say as long suffering Dolphin fans is that we hope the plan works, fits the players and that the players play their ass off in it. Due to results of the last many seasons production of koolaid has been halted until there is a bonafide reason to do so. Not that you can’t have your own private still but sanctioned koolaid production has been halted for the benefit of all involved.

Congratulations to Jarvis Landry for being recognized by his peers as one of the top 100 players in the league. Welcome to the top kid and it seems like you’ll continue to climb every year.

Enjoy!

Let’s have a large turnout for the annual Fest, vote up above – see you there!

The key to this draft is 2 of the 4 6th and 7th rd picks pan out. With the projection that the 1st thru 3rds make an impact. That would be a successful draft.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

That would be our best draft since ’83, really we need 6 guys from the draft to make it successful?

Lots of ways to make this draft successful, Tunsil being a Probowler within 4 yrs, with one other guy being very good would make it successful for me. I expect at least that to happen, and at least 2 more guys being very good starting players or strong contributors.

  2. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Tunsil also brings an entirely new talent level to the OL which we all agreed we needed. We really couldn’t have done any better than him.

    Naples,

It ups your odds. No one knows how a pick will perform or what will happen like freak accidents like Kindle had for the Ravens. Having more picks negates some of the damage a bad pick can do and everyone has bad picks sometimes. I don’t agree with too much moving back but I also dont agree with too much moving up either. You need some elite but you mainly need solid players and a strong group of backups which the low picks help with.

Im not saying that Lou isn’t right about this draft. I think he is. Im not not saying Steve doesn’t have good points. He doe. But there is always another side. We did really well in this draft and like Tim, I hope we keep doing it next year.

It falls into the logic of the team saw a possible star and made the trade, so instead of having 3 Jags they’d rather have 1 star.

well now i had no idea the players they got were already possible stars and what was left was jags. i mean when you state facts like that who can argue. its a wonder that tbaum and the new front office were even available since they know what a possible star is vs all the jags in the draft

If the team is good nobody will care how we acquired players. If we’re not a good team then there will be a lot of blame to go around and not just traded draft picks.

wow tim, such a unique observation. so you are saying if the guys selected are studs and this team wins no one will care about the what was given up. who would ever of thunk that. so i guess we should all just drop the topic and pick it up again a few years from now

    OD, here’s some more info….

Bucs signed West Georgia OG Dominique Robertson.
Robertson (6’5/324) transferred from Texas Tech to West Georgia for his senior year, earning first-team Division II All-American honors for his elite performance at left tackle. Robertson has incredibly long arms (36″), but still pumped 225 pounds 30 times on the bench in Indy. A traits-based project, Robertson combines NFL-caliber movement skills with blind-side length. While not remotely ready to play, Robertson is worth a look as a developmental flier.

  12. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Stave, maybe 2 of the 6th and 7th rd guys aren’t the key, it’s more the top 4, just saying to hit on some of the late rounders would make this draft a deep one for us.

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

What’s the deal with this guy? Well, he plays a position of need for the Dolphins. Unfortunately, the Bucs beat us to the draw on this guy. Hopefully, we’ve got an over abundance of guys who play O-line already in camp.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think you meant to post one up. But we just added a top blue chip prospect at #13 in Laremy Tunsil who is by far a better prospect than Robertson. Tunsil had the highest grade according to NFL.com of any prospect in the draft at 7.61. Robertson is a 4.9.

      • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

SO WE ONLY had one hole to plug in the O-Line?? – – Well, that’s great. Now tell me what we’re going to do if both of our starting tackles miss more than half the season, as they did last year?

  13. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

Solid first period by the Lightning. In previous games in this series, the Islanders have outplayed Tampa Bay. The Islanders will have to step up their own play in period #2, or it’s “Get out the golf clubs” for New York. At least they are currently in a state where they can easily play golf now!

  14. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

OD, we added 3 OL in FA before the draft in Urbik, Bushrod and Young. All of them can play tackle but Urbik has played mostly guard, Bushrod has always been a LT but might move LG, and Young is strictly a tackle and most likely a backup or may not make the team now with the addition of Tunsil.

Albert, James, Tunsil, Urbik, Bushrod and Young is our new depth at tackle and Tunsil, Urbik and Bushrod will likely compete at guard this year with our three other young guards in Turner, Douglas and Thomas – who may also be on the outside looking in.

Albert started 14 games last year at LT, he didn’t miss half the season, James did.

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

OOPS–You are right, Tim. The fact that Albert played 14 games and our O-Line STILL SUCKED brings no comfort to me. In fact, Albert has, I believe, not played all 16 games in the last 5-6 seasons As for the other names you mentioned, I sure hope at least 3 of them are primed and ready to step in. But it’s ONLY a hope right now. With apologies to Yogi Berra, is this DEJA VUE all over again?

  15. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

OD, Robertson is a project. Do we really need more projects on the OL? We already have enough of those still developing & likely already a couple years ahead of where Robertson is starting off at now.
We’ll see if he even makes the Bucs PS.

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

DON’T KNOW if he’s a “project” or not, GDP. However, if Tim is right, we have no need for more candidates. WE are all set!!.
      —————————
ON ANOTHER SUBJECT, they are warming up “THE FAT LADY” in Tampa Bay’s Amalie Arena. The Isles are down 3-0 to Ben Bishop & the Bolts with one period left!

  16. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    OD,

We now have four 1st round picks that will likely start on our OL’s starting 5.
We also have a good amount of depth as well. That depth is mostly all young guys that are developing.
Remember, we’ve seen how all across the NFL, OL prospects coming out of college usually take a few years become solid.
We’ve got 2 such guys slated for key roles now, in Douglas & Turner going into essentially their 2nd/3rd year, the leap years.

Also, I think scheme & play calling has a positive or negative effect on the OL, depending on your personnel.

We’ve had horrible play calling for years now, especially last year. Let’s see whre Gase takes us & the OL.

The key is staying healthy of course.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

If Bushrod starts that would be a 5th 1st rounder starting on OL as I am pretty sure he was 1st round pick when he came out

Even though I do not like some of the trades, I do like our management team they seem to be more in sync than anytime I can remember and I credit T-Baum for it. He owns whatever goes on because he hired the GM and the head coach. They will have a rough start because of the schedule but if they can be .500 or better after the first 8 games they just might be in the hunt for 2nd place in our division.

Oy! It’s about the team being better, not how we got there.

aaahhh, tim hate to break it to you but the discussion was about what the team is doing to get better. with some not liking what they did trading picks and some not caring. in case you havent noticed this team isnt any better then it was the day before the draft. it still has to be proven on the field until then the discussion is valid.

  24. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It’s always about making the team better, but it’s not a one year plan. Speaking of Bushrod, I think he’s gonna end up being very important to this OL, either as OT depth, or possibly @ OG. 6’5 320 could also make for a load @ RG should Turner & Douglas stall in development. Turner is 6’5 302.

    ———
And here I thought Peyton came over to Tannehill’s house to place this in their garden…

  42. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Peyton Manning showed up to the Dolphins’ facility earlier this spring to work with Ryan Tannehill and help teach him coach Adam Gase’s offense.
It was apparently entirely Manning’s idea and a solid gesture on his end after retiring just three months ago. “It was really cool just to be able to sit and pick his brain about things he’s done in this offense and football things in general: snap counts, things you like, the way you want guys to run routes, little details about the game,” Tannehill said. “At that time, we weren’t able to meet with the coaches or anything, so I didn’t really have a great handle yet.” The future Hall of Famer and former MVP isn’t a bad resource for Tannehill to have in his pocket.
    ____________________________
I like the quotes by Tanny on picking Jughead’s brain on snap counts, of which Peyton was the master at, and other things as well. Good to see.

  43. D's avatar D says:

Peyton is the master of pre-snap defensive reads, audible and manipulating the snap count. He also has pretty good pocket presence and at least early on had pretty good accuracy and threw to the spot in coverage vs throwing to the receiver. So yeah a ton of things Tanny could learn from there.

  44. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

My man crush WR last draft is doing well…..

According to ESPN Titans reporter Paul Kuharsky, Dorial Green-Beckham and Rishard Matthews will “ideally” be Tennessee’s Nos. 1 and 2 receivers.
Not surprising, but notable. DGB flashed big-time upside during the second half of his rookie season last year and is expected to take the next step and become Marcus Mariota’s No. 1 receiver in year two.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He’s the enemy now, fuck him! LOL

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I agree, and we play the Titans this year. No wonder VJ wants bigger CB’s….DGB is 6’5 237…sheesh.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well not just because of guys that big, but even WRs who aren’t that big are playing more physical like Andre Hopkins 6-1 215 etc. But VJ did point that out as to why he wants bigger corners. All our safeties are 6-1 as well.

It looks like McCain, Thomas, Ifo and Patmon, and maybe Leon Hall will compete as the slot guys. I also noticed Lippett is listed at 6-3 200 on the official roster, not 192 so he added some muscle which he said was an offseason goal of his.

  45. D's avatar D says:

Anyone see where Zeke had a pretty bad slip in practice and got up pretty slowly? Watch all the other NFL team follow our lead next year and do classroom and possibly a light walk through like practice for rookies.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Jeff Fisher has been doing this for years, that’s where Gase got it from. Dante Fowler Jr. going down last year in rookie camp was also a factor.

      • D's avatar D says:

Sort borrowed it. Fisher still does walk throughs and they do some conditioning tests, but they just dont do full out practices. Gase looks like he has taken it a step further and included nutritional and financial planning as well as expected use of social media. Dolphins system is more strictly classroom

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Just going by what Gase said. I don’t follow the Rams rookie camps. LOL

  46. D's avatar D says:

I can see the importance of light walk throughs, but in the grand scheme of things they are going to get PLENTY of exposure to defensive lineups, etc that missing a week of them isnt going to be a big deal.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think it’s a big deal at all. Gase wants the rooks up to speed mentally when they join the vets. The physical will take care of itself.

  47. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I think we can be 3-2 heading into the Steelers home game. & probably 3-3 as we suit up for the Bills at home before our bye.
Would be nice to win that division game, be 2-0 in the division & 4-3 going into the bye, facing the Jests in Miami coming out of the bye with a chance to go 3-0 in the division & 5-3 overall….wooo.

    Wk1 @ Seattle – Loss
    Wk.2 @ NE – Win (no Brady)
    Wk3 vs. Cleveland – Win
    Wk4 @ Cincy – Loss
Wk 5 vs Tenn – Win
    Wk6 vs Pitt – Loss
    Wk7 vs Buff – Win
    Wk8 – Bye –
    Wk9 vs NYJ – Win = @ the halfway point 5-3 (3-0) division.
That’s something we haven’t seen in awhile.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

The 2nd half looks to have some stumbling block games, so I see it could still end up as a 9-7 season for Miami, win a surprise game in the 2nd half & 10-6 is possible.

  48. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Tim, yeah I know not all receivers are DGB size…lol. He’s in rare air. But yes, VJ wanted bigger corners not only for bigger type WR’s, but to be able to play all WR’s physical on the press, etc.

I dont know that Seattle will be as strong as people think. They start out slow every year and they lost a major weapon in Lynch. I think that one is going to be closer than people give credit for. I believe Cincy is going to be tough this year. They brought back most the team they were rolling with last year so they should be pretty strong. We do have a pretty good record against them though.

    • D's avatar D says:

Just looked and Seattle is at home and thats a hard place for anyone to play.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

We could sneak out a surprise win @ Seattle, but if we have to split a back to back road run, I’d rather it be in a Bradyless NE, get that division win.

  50. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Based on what Gase has said the best way to get an idea of what our offense will look like is go watch the Peyton Colts and Broncos. Not saying look at Peyton’s results, but the formations, run plays and routes will be similar. He has repeatedly said he and Clyde hijacked that offense and Clyde was a big part of putting that offense together.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Yep, he has said that. Not bad offenses to pattern yourself after, with some wrinkles of different matchups of course.

  51. D's avatar D says:

I think Buffalo is going to be hard. Their offense doesn’t seem to have gotten much as far as additional weapons but that fucking defense is going to be lights out.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

By then we have to hope our OL’s starting 5 is really settling in…then we’ll be fine.
Gase as a play caller knows how to counter these types of defenses where Lazor & Philbin were clueless and kept doing the same repetitive thing over and over making it easier for them to tee off on us!

      Except for the QB

  52. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

  53. D's avatar D says:

Length of the corners is near as important as you guys make it out to be. The defense is built off knocking the receiver off their routes to disrupt timing then falling back to a zone and spy the QB and the receivers crossing your zone.

Its more important for a CB in that scheme to be football smart, aggressive and have great closing speed. The straight line speed isnt at a premium as we are use to in man coverage systems, and being big only helps with the physical nature of the press scheme. If a guy who is smaller can remain physical and keep a guy off his route early, then he can do just as good a job in that system as a bigger guy. Guys like DGB only advantage that size has is that the CB will wear down faster than him, generally, and with Jones helping over the top, i dont see him being a big threat.

I’ve been blogging with you all for a few years now. Every year these guys bite hard on the new Head Coach, or the new Offensive Coordinator, or the new Defensive Coordinator, or in this years case, all three, PLUS, the new Puppet GM, and every time it’s the same thing that the new system is this, and the guys fit this, etc. etc. etc. I mean eventually, they’ll probably be right, because someday, things will go right and the team will do well, and they will finally be able to say I TOLD YA SO!!!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Not everyone here is a “I told you so” type but there are plenty who like to pat themselves on the back.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

  73. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,
I especially like the idea that only we saw the pro bowl potential in a couple 6th and 7th rounders and don’t even need 4th round picks anymore! Lol

But, If it means the team is actually winning games and successful…I’ll take the “I told you so’s.” I do enjoy the eternal optimism….even if I can’t buy into it. It must be neat to see the world that way!

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

No doubt. Proof that we made the right decisions are we traded away picks for next year, and they fit our systems and prototypes, and we’re in win now mode.

Of course we all want to win, and I will be excited as hell if we finally got it right.

  74. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

So here we go again, only Ryan Tannehill has an excuse or no excuse clause by fans, nobody else, not other players, units, coaches, nobody, just him. Ah yes the ultimate team game, but not really. LOL

I’ll evaluate ‘the team’ the way I see it and don’t really care what anyone else thinks about it so there. LOL

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

It really doesn’t matter whether there are excuses or not

the roster will be what the roster is in 2017 no matter what

We should look at Tannehill at the end of the season and make a decision on whether he is the future or not. Unless he cements himself as a top 5 QB, we should do that every offseason. We should od that for every player.

but I suspect the topic will be blasphemy to some people.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Oh so now top 5 is the level? I’ll bet you right now it won’t have to be that and none of us will decide anything, the team will and they surely won’t view it like many fans do.

You want to take that bet, if I’m right you have to wear a pig costume and jump out of your jeep while moving into the East River. If you’re right I have to wear a Tannehill sucks jersey while blogging. Deal?

  75. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

    “the new Puppet GM”

Kind of harsh for folks to label a guy who has 15 years invested in our team in some capacity.

His father is Bobby Grier, who is the Associate Director of Pro Personnel for the Houston Texans of the National Football League (NFL). Prior to that, Bobby Grier was a running back coach, director of pro scouting, and vice-president of player personnel for the New England Patriots of the NFL.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Grier can’t help the situation he’s in. I really wish Mr. T was out of the picture and let Grier run the draft completely independent of Mr. T, but that’s not the case. I can’t blame Grier for taking the promotion, why wouldn’t he? On the other hand, I just can’t believe that if Mike Tannenbaum wasn’t involved in this draft, it would have been conducted the same way. You disagree?

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Most teams have more than one guy involved in personnel decisions. Grier never comes across as a guy disgruntled with his position. I think too much is made of it.

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

I do feel things may have been different. But they do seem to be on the same page and did give Grier the respect due. What GM has total control? Not many.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

He still is working under Tannebaum

I don’t think that makes him a puppet
teams have a lot of different structures

I think some people will call any GM who is not the top dog of an organization a puppet

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Don’t make it true…T Baum is doing what his job title allows him to do. That has nothing to do with Grier more than he has a boss over his head who is a VP. The same guy who opened the door for Chris

  76. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

Since we’re in an election year, how bout this . . .

  78. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,
I expect a slow start because of the new system, but come the halfway point of the season, I would like to see this offense generating some points. We’re not winning a damn thing if we can only score 20 points a game….no matter how our defense plays. 20 points ain’t winning jack in today’s NFL.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t really expect anything. I won’t be surprised if we play well right off the bat, or not. I think teams these days can play well right off the bat if they know that they’re doing, the game plan is solid, and the players execute. I think Gase will have the team ready, but then it’s up to the players to do what they were taught and do it well.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I also don’t have any feelings one way or the other whether we start fast or slow or whatever. I think if the players put in the work and the coaches teach it well we can start off fine. I always expect a team to get better as the season goes on and if they don’t they’re not that good.

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

New system and wicked opening schedule…..

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

  79. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Markey

I’m not sure what to make of your response. I like when the GM and the coaches handle a draft. To me, with Tannenbaum in the war room, he may as well be Jerry Jones, he’s doing it his way, and Grier is just along for the ride. I’m sure Mike accepts his input on which players to get, but then it’s all Mr. T when it comes to the way they get them.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s not unique, you ever see other war rooms there are a lot of voices. I think you’re over-analyzing it and using TBaum as a scapegoat for your dislike of trading picks.

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Keep in mind all teams have the owners in front or behind the scenes playing like we fans do…..so nobody has total control IMO.

If you’re a good team, you can beat other good teams. I never worry about the schedule. If we lose to the better teams in the league consistently, that just means we’re not a good team. Every team has rough spots in their schedules.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

      ^ very true Randy

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

I agree to a point. It really does take time when you bring in new coaching and change everything on both sides of the ball. I think a 9-7 season would be a success for our first year head coach but he is facing a really tough schedule I just want to see this team win more home games and split or do better in the division. Those would be promising signs for the future….

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

The best teams protect their home and compete in the division as that should be the goal every year to win our division (guaranteed playoff berth) Joe Philbin failed miserably in both areas.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

      Agreed.

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

6 or more wins at home is what the best teams accomplish sweep one or more teams in our division gets you 7-8 wins and then win two road games outside the division and we are in the playoffs.

    Markey

The Jets went from 4-12 to 10-6 with their new coaching staff in place. I used them, because they had a similar schedule in play in our division. It can be done, you just have to play well.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

New England w/o Tom Brady, and when the weather is warm. You could call that a win/win

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Maybe year 3 you can make a legitimate argument that it don’t matter because they will have in place the team they want but year one with new coaching it will go through growing pains. Just hope Tanny have great stats because if not he might be out. He is the next scapegoat in line.

  84. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

I too hated the trades on draft day especially the Carroo trade. But I do like the structure as long as they are all on the same page because the infighting and back stabbing that’s been going on in Miami for the past 8 years has taken it toll.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

How will we ever know if they are truly on the same page? It’s impossible, and just because they make it appear so, that in and of itself doesn’t convince me. In sports, they’re all good soldiers about that.

    • D's avatar D says:

They didnt need a starter this year, i heard he likely plays some nickle to get him some game speed exposure, was going to be the same for Hargreaves as well if they took him. Nickle is becoming the new launching pad for CB’s these days.

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:
