As of now, the depth chart is basically Jay Ajayi, and then quite a few unproven players, although Kenyan Drake is only unproven because he hasn’t yet played in the NFL because he’s a rookie. Head Coach Adam Gase has publicly stated that he wants each and every RB in his stable to have the skills to stay on the field for an entire drive if necessary. That translates into number one, having the stamina to to be able to stay on the field for an entire drive, to have running skills to keep a driving, to be able to pass block adequately, and also be proficient at catching the ball out of the backfield. The question then is, do any of the other RB’s we currently have on the roster besides Ajayi and Drake possess those skills? Let’s take a look.
Daniel Thomas – 28YO – 6’0″ 225

Daniel Thomas
Thomas is making his third attempt with the Miami Dolphins. Thomas was drafted by the Dolphins back in the 2011 Draft, #63 overall. Thomas’s best year was his rookie year, where he totaled 581 yards rushing on 165 carries for a 3.5YPC average, very pedestrian. One thing Thomas has in his favor, he’s an accomplished pass blocker. He’s not great, but he might be the best blocker in the backfield. He’s a decent receiver, but never caught more than 15 passes.
Damien Williams – 24YO – 5’11” 211

Damien Williams
Damien was basically 3rd string last year, behind Lamar Miller and Jay Ajayi. Not much of a book on Williams really, other than the fact that he actually seems more comfortable running after a catch than he does on a hand off. Williams has nearly as many receptions as he does carries, 42 receptions and 52 carries. His only 2 TD’s both came on pass receptions. If you’ve watched Dolphins football, it seems Williams likes running after the catch. He has averaged 3.7 YPC, but has a decent 7.8 YPR on his 42 receptions. His rushing skills do not inspire a lot of confidence, so I think he’s a long shot.
Isaiah Pead – 26YO – 5’10” 197

Isaiah Pead
Isaiah Pead was drafted in the 2nd RD of the 2012 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams, 50th overall. We practically killed Daniel Thomas here, he of DT3 fame. Imagine if we got the production Isaiah Pead gave the Rams??? 19 rushes, 78 YDS in 3 seasons, along with 14 catches for 94 yards. ZERO TD’s. You can kind of understand why Pead was expendable. Maybe a change of scenery will provide the right atmosphere for a career resurrection for Pead. He has decent speed, ran a 4.47 40, and he’s an agile guy as well, was a good receiver in college. He’s a deficient pass blocker, so that’s something he’s going to have work hard to improve to make the roster.
OK, so this is what we currently have on the roster, but a recent development, as recent as yesterday, has Arian Foster supposedly healthy enough to participate in an NFL training camp. If that’s the case, I would think the Dolphins, who have been in contact with Foster and have obviously shown interest, will be monitoring this closely, and bring him in for a look see. If Foster is healthy, he brings a veteran presence to a very young backfield, and the ability to do it all, if he’s healthy. That’s the 64 million dollar question with Foster, is he healthy enough, and can he stay healthy enough to last an entire NFL season. I think there’s a very good shot Foster will be our 3rd RB. We’ll have to wait and see how his health is, and if we offer him the right opportunity, both $$$ wise, and workload.
Hmmm
Ex-NFL QB Johnny Manziel said he’s going “completely sober” starting this Friday, July 1.
“No booze, eating right and training like crazy.” Those were apparently Manziel’s words to TMZ Sports. JFF also said he’s determined to make an NFL comeback and ready to get back to work. Only after two more days of binge drinking and partying.
What is the likely hood that Manziel abstains on the 4th July weekend?
NFL suspended free agent QB Johnny Manziel four games for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.
The news comes one day after Manziel claimed he was getting sober (after a few more days of partying). In truth, he’s lucky the ban isn’t longer. Of course, when/if Manziel attempts to resume his career, he’ll be facing an additional suspension for violating the league’s personal-conduct policy in his domestic violence case. Manziel’s path back to the NFL — if he has one — will have to include a clear commitment to sobriety between now and next offseason. Then and only then will anyone be willing to roll the dice. Even if he gets his act together, it’s quite possible Manziel never gets another NFL contract.
What is the likelihood that Manziel ever abstains from doing something he’s not supposed to do?
About the same odds of him playing QB again
LOL, what are the odds Manziel lives long enough to see his 30th?
Isn’t this charming? LMAO!!!

In all honesty and quite frankly, I’ve seen that before.
Dolphins announce training camp practice dates open to the public. Also, it seems the stadium isn’t the only place they’re putting a shade canopy over the seating areas – the training camp bleachers are apparently going to get some shade relief as well…

LATE EVENING in my house tonight. Just wanted to give a huge tip of the hat to Coastal Carolina for completing their highly improbable run to a national championship at the College World Series. And what a finish it was–down to the last pitch as Arizona had the tying run at third and the go-ahead run at second. It was truly a memorable CWS!

Thanks for the info!
I say we just go back to a King and Queen because we seem to be drawn to that anyway. Maybe we can reunite with the UK and be a happy family again. LOL

What’s everyone doing this weekend?
Miami has the rainier than normal type season this year thanks to a weak El Nino pattern that shifts moisture to this region.
I’ll try the beach on Sunday and some grilling on Monday
I’ll be going to my friend’s memorial service tomorrow 😢
After that I’ll be heading to my moms for the rest of the weekend. My family is having a small fundraiser for the ALZ ASSOC. on Sunday at my hometown’s Independence Day celebration. 🇺🇸
I’ll manage to sneak in a few beverages and sit by the pool for a bit too. 🍺🌞👙
I’m probably going to just chase my tail and take a nap.
Cowboys keep this up they will have their entire starting defense on suspension.
LB Rolando McClain suspended 10 games.
DE Randy Gregory suspended 4 years.
DE DeMarcus Lawrence suspended 4 games.
What did Randy Gregory do to get suspended for 4 years???
Drugs
Gregory was being monitored by the NFL as part of his probation for testing positive at the Combine. He failed some of the probationay drug test checks so he rolled over to step 2 of the substance abuse protocol. I think next step is a full year.
Nevermind, it looks like its 10 games at the next stage, which pretty much is a full year.
I think that is games. Not years.
Man, bizarre, and unfortunate . . .

I’m about to fly home from Charlotte. There’s some Herd fans going to be on my flight.
We’re everywhere! Tell em I said hey! 😀
John Breitenbach
5 worst NFL edge defender contracts
1. Mario Williams, Miami Dolphins
Years remaining: Two
Average remaining cap hit (per season): $8.5 million
Year he can realistically be cut: 2017
The Dolphins could have retained Olivier Vernon on the franchise tag for only a little more than they gave Mario Williams over two years. Williams suffered a dreadful season in Buffalo, recording the worst pass-rush grade of all edge defenders. He managed only 37 combined pressures in 507 rushes, ranking fourth from bottom in pass-rushing productivity. Williams’ 42.5 pass-rush grade helped him to 93rd in our overall edge defender rankings.
The Bills’ wisely noticed the decline in Williams’ performance, cutting ties with him at the right time. The fact Miami decided to hand him $17 million over two years is baffling. Their bookend pass-rushers consist of a 34-year-old coming off an ACL surgery and a 31-year-old coming off the worst season of his career. In the likely case of another disappointing season, Williams’ will cost $2 million in dead money to cut. It would be a surprise if he played well enough to make the $10.5 million he’s set to
John Breitenbach is a douche
They could have kept Vernon for one year for “only a little more” than having Williams for TWO years…….
I saw that but was laughing too hard to post anything.
This is the absolute worst time of the year! We are in the desert of NFL news with a month more to go.
Ya .. But your AVI makes up for it.
Hell yeah it does. Now only if Wyo will post some of his cheerleader pics…
No one finds my helmet sexy?
Ah, i see the typo now….yes 4 games. LOL
ROCK: I AGREE things are boring in the NFL right now. Perhaps MANAGEMENT of this site might run the Jets at the Dolphins game from ABSOLUTE PERFECTION, the November, 1972, meeting in the historic Orange Bowl!! That 28-24 game ALWAYS brings a HUGE smile to my face!!! Does anyone here remember WHO scored the WINNING TOUCHDOWN FOR MIAMI that day?? HINT: it was the longest run from scrimmage for the Dolphins for a TD up to that point in the season!
Chad Henne?

Thats that kid from GT that a lot of us here liked, me included. Thats a 2nd offense already in a short career.
I liked him a lot too.

Even though we haven’t met yet. I would feel kind of awkward commenting about your helmet. 😳

hey everyone. Super busy as always. I’m trying a new strategy for this offseason:
avoid too much offseason “foreplay” to avoid “premature exclamation” when the season starts (‘we are going to the SB’ or ‘we suck’ after the opening kickoff). LOL
Rhino — good to see you my man…..and great analogy btw….lol. Only thing I would add is whoever the season goes always a good time at the Fest. And gonna be a good one this year.
O Captain! My Captain!

Night is in the top 10 books I have ever read
Agreed. Most of my students usually like it as well. It starts off slow, but then they keep asking “Did that really happen? Did THAT really happen?”. Then I have to constantly remind them that it is a memoir.
Reasons unclear?
I guess lunch isn’t a clear reason
Right? How about it is a 600-pound predator and that is the nature of 600-pound predators
“We have taken a wild, carnivorous animal whose natural insitinct is to hunt their prey, placed it in a small enclosure, and hand fed it. Reasons unclear.

Mets up 8-1 on the Cubs in the 2nd. Get the brooms out!!!
Wyo,
Why weren’t we invited to the party?
Probably had something to do with the restraining orders?
LMFAO!
BRIAN AND KEN; REALLY ENJOYED your comments about Eli Weisel. Weisel often visited the holocaust museum here in St. Petersburg. He is very well known, and respected, for what he accomplished by those of all faiths here in the Tampa Bay area.
—————-
Like many who were educated in the Deep South in the ’60’s, I had to suffer the idiotic beliefs of the redneck KKK types in history classes. All of these people WERE SURE the holocaust was a hoax because “my Daddy told me so” or “My Baptist preacher told me so, and they wouldn’t lie about nuttin’.” NOT coincidentally, NONE of their daddies or preachers served in Europe during WWII.
————–
ONE OF the smartest things Dwight Eisenhower did at the end of WWII was to force the burgermeisters and other German political leaders to help clean out the various sites where these great crimes against humanity were performed. Meetings were held in German towns and skeptics were invited to inspect the bodies of the crematoriums in some areas with their own eyes. Ike correctly predicted that many Nazi sympathizers would try to deny the reality of what really happened. Thus, he ordered thousands of grisly photographs to PROVE TO THE SKEPTICS that the holocaust WAS REAL! Unfotunately, Eisenhower could NOT predict that many of the skeptics and doubters would be American citizens of the Deep South.. Eternal shame on them!
It’s mind boggling to me that some people have that mentality. When I teach my students about moral ethics, prejudice, etc., I subtly mention that it is a learned behavior, and that people aren’t born discriminating others.
I had the privilege of meeting Elie Wiesel once. My best friend too a course with him when he was at Boston University. He was a very cool person. It was just a brief conversation but it was really cool to have met him
Wow. That’s incredible Ken.
Sunday nights just aren’t the same without Game of Thrones…
ON A HAPPIER ISSUE, congrats to the Mets for sweeping the over rated Cubs. The Cubs are a combined 1-7 in their last 8 games against the #2 and #3 teams in the NL East. Certain members of the media talked like the Cubs were “the favorites” to get to the World Series from the NL. Gotta say I like San Francisco, Washington, the Mets and the Marlins to beat the Cubs team as they are now in a 7-game series. But it is still EARLY. Injuries will occur. Trades will be made. Things could be a lot different by the time the playoffs start. But the Cubs still have to “SHOW ME” they can win in the playoffs. And, right now, they are NOT the best team in the National League.

You folks like the Ft. Bragg Game? I DO. But I think it’s STUPID to build this stadium only to tear it down after ONE GAME!! Couldn’t MLB arrange for a minor league team to play there permanently? I think breaking down this stadium and turning it into a several softball fields is a real head scratcher But that’s the Army way, some times. (PS: I’m ex-Army). __All of you folks have a great 4th of July!!
