Well, Summer vacation officially ends today; back to reality. I’m hoping Drake show us a lot tonight- I’m still not confident in our RB’s and that would ease my mind a bit.

  2. Final audition tonight for some guys. Just want a nice clean game with no major catastrophes. Would be nice to see Drake and Howard make some noise.

    No injuries!

    I agree
I want to see Drake, Carroo, dysert and Howard have good games
    too

But more importantly I want my phone to stop autocorrecting Dysert to dysentery which is bound to cause confusion and maybe even hospitalization

How did we forget about Grant or Duarte?

  9. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

This article is kind of off. The TEs play a major role in blocking in the offense. They have caught 13 passes in the PS with Dominique Jones having the most production with 6 of them so this is really about Cameron more than anything, not the TEs in the offense. I guess if Cameron had two nice gains and a TD so far it would be a non-story. Kind of silly.
    http://dailydolphin.blog.palmbeachpost.com/2016/08/31/miami-dolphins-tight-ends-cant-be-an-afterthought-in-adam-gases-offense/

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

TEs have been targeted 22 times in the PS with 13 receptions. Sure there have been some drops we’re all aware of but that means they just need to clean up some things. But they’re being targeted at over 7 per game. Suggesting the TEs are an afterthought in Gase’s offense is totally off base though.

      • sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

you clicked, read it, and shared it so his job is complete. I clicked it too, but didn’t read the whole thing so I’m only half a sucker. 😉

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If you view it that way. My point was just another article that’s not really accurate. I heard Gase talk about most of this in his pressers and this is what Habib takes away from it and the facts. Unreal!

  10. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I want all the Phins players who play tonight to do well. 🙂

  11. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

As for Drake, hopefully he gets 10 offensive snaps, maybe gets the ball 4-5 times rush/rec and 10 STs snaps which he was drafted for because he excels there. That at least gets him some game reps for what he’s going to do in the RS so it won’t be the first time. But the coaches may not want to overdo it with him and push the hammy too much.

  12. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

DT63 sucks as a starting G, but he has value, if used correctly. I’d use him as a run blocking TE, on short yardage situations. In the 2nd half last week we lined up several times in the Stanford 20 olineman formation. Wonder, if we use it during the season.

  13. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Man, the more you read stuff like this the more it’s explains Philbin’s failures.

“Meanwhile, Ryan Tannehill will visit with Gase early in the week and brainstorm. That’s a shift from Tannehill’s time with Philbin, who didn’t regularly ask for his quarterback’s help.

“He’ll have a plan of what he wants to attack, and he’s made it clear that if I have any input or insight on things I saw on tape, then he’s more than willing to hear it and put it in the game plan if it fits,” Tannehill added.”

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Omar had Philbin pegged from the beginning, he said he wants no alpha dogs. Marshall was traded right away, pissing me off. He was so insecure that it hurt the team.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Marshall was acting like an idiot and unprofessional before Philbin got there and when he learned more about it he said get him out of here. I was all for it. He did the same stuff in CHI and when Fox and Gase got there they did the same thing. He seems to have learned his lesson with the Jets. He’s still never been on a team that’s gone to the playoffs so…

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

After reading the article I want to kick Philbin in the ass.

    Farty for Duarte!

    No ache for Drake

  16. D's avatar D says:

Curious to know with all the expectation statements flying around, what everyone is expecting to see from them?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

For me just more positive than negative plays and some young guys showing they belong. Other than that no serious injuries. I won’t be able to see the game until Saturday but that’s okay.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m expecting 6-8 TD runs from Drake, and 10-15 INT’s from Howard. You?

  17. D's avatar D says:

I dont think Philbin wanted no Alpha’s, he just didnt know how to manage them well. I think his issues with Tanny were probably at first not understanding what was needed to grrom a guy who probably didn’t have an extensive background in advanced QB concepts. He was too much work for Philbin and Philbin at some point decided he wanted someone else. After that point it became about total resentment for being tied to him.

Marshall would probably have been sent packing by any nyumber of coaches. He wasnt producing, he had a shitty attitude towards his teammates, he destroyed any possibility for chemistry with the QB’s we had. His momentary success followed by failure in Chicago, and his eventual one in NY will show you problems follow him.

    • D's avatar D says:

Also Philbin just didnt not relate to players period, alpha or otherwise. Alpha’s just take control of situations, which undermines the control of the coach, and Philbin was a micro managing control guy.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well said. Philbin was never a QBs coach. He was always OL/TE and then OC under McCarthy who is also an OC at heart and a play-caller. People focus on Tannehill’s development or lack of it but we really haven’t been a good team overall for a long time. We always look at the paper tiger than we have to accept the play on the field hasn’t been that good.

  18. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

J Walker on the top bubble guys to watch tonight. Sorry to see him even mention Doublas.
    ———————–
Some key bubble players to keep an eye on include running back Damien Williams, receivers Griff Whalen and Rashawn Scott and offensive linemen Sam Young and Jamil Douglas against Tennessee.

  19. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

    No pants for Grant!

  20. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

TIM; Totally agree with you when you say “we really haven’t been a good team overall for a long time.”
    ————
YOUNG STANGER: When I found out Philbin had absolutely NO head coaching experience AT ANY LEVEL and wasn’t even Green Bay’s play caller (even though he was OC) I knew we were in trouble. ROSS needs to consider “PRIOR HEAD COACHING EXPERIENCE” as a higher priority if or when he needs to replace Gase. Ross’s prior attempts to hire such a coach (Harbaugh and Fisher) ended in failure, His insistence that H and F take orders from a proven failure like Ireland was a key to blowing those deals.

  21. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Stanger

I’m not so sure Douglas is on the bubble, just because Walker says so.

    • D's avatar D says:

I think Douglas/Young are kind of just whom the coaches think has the best potential future with our franchise. I would think Young would be more likely to be a cut as a vet, even as an inexpensive vet, just because there inst as much molding left that can be done with that clay, where as Douglas represents someone who still might develop into the OL they want He also has versatility of being able to step in at OC, where as Young i think is pretty much strictly a OT. We others who can play OT when needed, Turner, Thomas, Bushrod, etc. I think that puts Young more on the bubble than Douglas.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Think both you and Mike E are right that Douglas is safe, but even seeing his name mentioned makes me think he might be going the Dallas Thomas route.

  22. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

The renovated stadium looks pretty nice. Kudos to Ross and the organization for getting that done. Here is to hoping it brings the Fins health tonight, and a healthy home field advantage during the regular season and playoffs!!!

  23. D's avatar D says:

I think everyone should wait to judge any of our guys going tonight until you actually watch the game. Stats can lie, a tipped pass by a defender that played it well can wind up in the hands of a guy who just happened to be at the right place at right time, or whom may have blown the initial coverage, got bailed out by the tip guy, and then got a nice present in return.

  24. D's avatar D says:

Pouncey being out helps Douglas stay a lot too because now he is the primary backup to Steen.

  25. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Ouncey for Pouncey

  26. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The problem with Young is he’s only a tackle and we have other guys who can play there and provide more flexibility. Douglas plays all 3 interior positions. That said if he doesn’t play them well it doesn’t matter.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

And he doesn’t do any of them well. He came in with a Rep that he was a strong guy, but he hasn’t shown it. I think he’s a goner. DT63, Turner, and Douglas are all on the chopping block, they don’t get the well we drafted them discount.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Why he’s only a tackle is kind of odd, at least that’s only where we’ve seen him, because he gets good push in the run game, so I’d think they would’ve at least tried him at G.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

6-8 315 screams tackle, not interior and not a prototype at center. You have to get lower with more knee bend there. Sure Nate Garner at 6-7 325 did that in relief as a backup but how many guards and centers are built like that?

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

So why bring in a guy that can only play one position, if you planned on using as a backup tackle? He doesn’t have prototypical size to play G, but it would be as an injury replacement, so his size shouldn’t matter. Break in case of an emergency.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Competition! Let him compete with Albert and James. Thomas and Turner were both being worked mainly at G last year – they were starters along with Douglas. Bushrod was signed after Young. Tunsil wasn’t drafted yet.

  27. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

OD, why do you focus on losing out on Fisher as a failure when his Rams teams have gone 7-8-1, 7-9, 6-10 and 7-9? Philbin’s winning pct. was better than that at 7-9, 8-8, 8-8 and 1-3.

I was a fan of hiring Fisher but he’s gone on to be a mediocre HC at best the last 4 years as are many of his seasons outside of a handful of very good seasons a long time ago. Fisher hasn’t coached a team to a winning record in 6 seasons. Yet on Hard Knocks he has a very cocky attitude like he knows what he’s doing. So what’s the problem, Jeff?

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

I never said I wanted Fisher. I said Ross failed to hire two coaches who had prior HC experience because they would NOT accept orders from Ireland. I cautioned you on the other site to tell the truth and quote me correctly. WHY CAN’T YOU DO THIS?? Perhaps a displaced loyalty to a man (Ross) who has utterly failed to field a successful NFL football team has caused you to avoid being truthful. 8 years is long enough, in my view, to produce a winning franchise. AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT ONE!!
      ————–
As for my preferences for head coach after Ross belatedly fired Sparano, I thought that Harbaugh would be an improvement, but Ross completely blew that situation by not first firing Tony and then telling Harbaugh he’d have to take orders from proven failure Ireland. AT NO TIME ON THIS BOARD have I favored the hiring of Fisher. I simply used Ross’s failed attempt to hire him, and any other coach with big time head coaching experience, as one of the problems with the “Ross Approach.” I’m sorry you are unable or unwilling to understand the difference.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        we should hire Rich Kotite
he coached in 97 NFL games so far….

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I never said you said you wanted Fisher. I said I did and you keep bringing him up as a coaching search failure which you do all the time. So please, you’re the one playing that card not me. Go read your own posts. You have a lot of facts wrong that you keep repeating as fact and I will challenge it every time because it’s BS. Opinions and facts are two different things.

Your opinion of Ross is just that and that’s your right. Your making up facts doesn’t sit well with me especially when you repeat them over and over. It makes reality a mockery.

  28. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

  31. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’m more interested in seeing guys not screwing up tonight as apposed to doing something special. The last week of pre and week 17 of the regular season are games that provide the most false reads on players, so someone doing something special may not actually be special.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

unless that special thing they do is origami
      which is always special

    • D's avatar D says:

I hope we see a few people differentiate themselves from others they are competing with. I hope there is a clear line after tonight between those we are going to keep and those we aren’t because the closer they are together the less of a difference maker they are. I hope also for their sake that no one gets injured. Each of these guys are either going to make the team or try to make others and i hope for their sake an injury doesnt stand in the way on either side. Also hope that the injuries stay away so we can make our cut down choices off of talent and not cut a guy we really like because of a very poorly timed injury.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We hope for no injuries in every game, so it goes without saying. What I don’t want is a guy that can’t cover getting 2 lucky pick sixes, then making the team, because of it, then he sucks the next 16 weeks.

  32. D's avatar D says:

OD i dont know that Ross ultimately missed on those hirings. They each had their reasons for taking different jobs, and they made that choice for any number of reasons, keep in mind Fisher had plenty of other suitors that year, he chose the Rams over more than us.

God knows if he had wanted Harbaugh im pretty sure he could have had him. he had connections to Harbauugh that few others did. Ultimately Harbaugh didnt want the job, and not just this job but seemingly any other NFL job. There were other NFL suitors, they also didnt get him.

  35. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Nobody really knows if Ross told Hardballs that he had to take orders from Jeffro. I’d think it was the other way around. Remember Ross is a Mich alum too and was so infatuated with Jim that he’d probably gave him anything he wanted, and Ross inherited Jeffro.
So I doubt Ross told Hardballs, hey, I’ll hire ya, but ya got to do what the Leprechaun says….smh!

I think it was more about Jim wanted to coach the Wolverines and had enough BS with pro prima donnas, and nothing else was gonna sway him at the time…IMO.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

This was about 2011 when Harbaugh went o SF you silly bastard!!! LOL

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

your history is a bit hazy

Harbaugh actually chose SF over Miami
remember he went from Stanford to SF to Michigan
and we pursued him after he left Stanford

I was under the impression he wanted to stay in the Bay area and that was the prevailing factor

we didn’t pursue Harbaugh (despite my squealing requests to) when he left SF

I think the big debacle on that pursuit was that we did it with Sparano under contract and then kept him around for another year after publicly undercutting him

With Fisher I am under the impression that the driving force was Sam Bradford was with the Rams…

      Hah Hah

      Sam Bradford

      Hah Hah

      its funny now
but the Rams had their QB at the time

the NFC West was also perceived to be an easier division than the AFC East

      Fisher chose the Rams

The Seahawks, 49ers and Cards all got real good
Sam Bradford never met the hope of :just staying healthy”

      we hired Philbin
      and drafted Tannehill

If I had to do it over again I would have pursued Harbaugh and Fisher over Sparano and Philbin too

seems like the flaw here is not the pursuit of the HCs but the guys you kept or were stuck with

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ross went after Harbaugh in 2011 and SF landed him. It’s not that complicated. We retained Sparano that year during the classic round table of Ross, Ireland and Sparano. LOL

Sparano was fired after going 4-9 and guaranteeing a losing season. Bowles was the interim HC the last 3 games and went 2-1.

For the record he was not hired to be a HC for another 3 years. But another Ross mistake. LOL

Come on folks… let’s look at it as it went down. It’s getting old, the bashing stuff!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I read that earlier, it wasn’t a very well thought out article and had some timing issues.

    • D's avatar D says:

The guy seems to admit, Thomas will be a backup this year, but then says he doesnt understand why he would make it. I understand he is not someone to rely on as a starter, but his versatility and starting experience in itself makes him ideal as a backup, well ideal considering the alternatives. Turner is the same. We dont have anyone else on the roster that would make the backup role any more secure. Once we can stack talent so deep that we have a potential starter as a backup, then we will be in the glory days, but as it is, Turner and Thomas arent bad as backups.

Earl Mitchell is fine, and they are flat out wrong on Phillips. Mitchell i think takes a more backup role, and if you got a guy who could start on a lot of teams as your backup, then you have good problems at that position. Again, this guy is just stupid.

Cameron and Sims also are not bad players. Cameron has elite ability, he needs to start securing those passes, but in general, not many guys have his athletic ability. There is a reason that two teams, both of which needed upgrades at TE couple years ago were going after the same 2 guy, and if Jimmy Graham is the guy you are flip flopping between, then you arent too shabby. We do need to see more out of him, but idea that you would cut him is just ridiculous, same with Sims. Who on our team at TE says we should cut Sims and keep them. How many teams if they had Sims would also cut him because thye had better….not many. He might not be TE1 talent but is a far cry from a TE4 or TE5 that means he should get cut.

  37. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Oopsie, I remember well now….yes Hardballs went from Stanford to SF cause his wifey & family were well rooted in the Bay area at the time….so he listened to his wife and took orders from her….Jeffro, not so much.

    • D's avatar D says:

I was thinking the second time he came available as well, the first time i had forgotten about us being after him then, but again, thee are reasons he took the job, maybe like GD said above, maybe it was because he just liked their offer better all things considered. People turn down job offer and go with other ones all the time and the reasons vary like a springtime breeze. A constant in all of these arguments, though, is others also got turned down, so its not like anyone who goes after the guy is going to get him and the reason it doesnt happen isnt always the worst case scenario, that he hates the team, or the GM or the player, or whatever. Thats a sour fan who wants to be mad at the team or the players or the coaches, or owner and blame them for why something they wanted to happen didnt.

OK defense, lets stop them here. I mean I’ll take another Int, but I’d like to see the Defense stop them elsewhere as well.

I’m ok kicking the ball off for a TB, from what I’ve seen in the other games the coverage wasn’t good.
