Darn page turn — highlight from last page’s episode.

“know it wasn’t the main reason Ross spent all that money, but we now have one of those stadiums that with a glimpse you know exactly which one it is. I call that character.”

  1. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Ajayi, had a fumble last night, dropped a pass to halt another drive, and he hasn’t looked good running the ball and his hands have been bad. That’s really not why I’m down on him, it’s because he doesn’t seem to be able to find a hole, and doesn’t break a lot of tackles. Great RBs set you up, then make a move, he just runs.

  2. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Those are impressive pics Stanger

but I just feel like they can use a few pig statues around the stadium
you know to honor pork lost in tailgates

Ross really missed a chance to make a statement

    Damn New Yorker!

  3. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

LOL Pig — Ross has announced that already (think in West 21), but it is going to be based on this one an added too each week, but the names instead will be ones like Hammy, Riblet and Rumpled Pigskin.

  4. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think we are either really bad on defense or we were playing really vanilla all preseason
    I’m thinking it was vanilla

but I do think there are shortcomings at LB and CB
and I’m a little worried that even if the guys up front do their job
the LBs in the wide 9 won’t finish the job

If I were an opposing offense my game plan would be to run right at us and try to put those LBs in a position where my RB is running straight at them

We should consider ourselves lucky Marshawn Lynch retired

but my biggest concern is the run game which looks like shit in the preseason
we can probably hide some of the deficiencies on D if we sustain longer drives
I’m hoping our offense is more efficient in the reg season
To met that is the difference between the postseason and being sub .500

    • I’m not worried about the run game because we’re going to run the ball no matter what. Whether we average 3.8 yds per carry or the 4+ we averaged last season we’re going to run it to keep the O balanced as much as possible. If we do that we will be successful on offense.
Only way I become concerned about the run is if the pass blocking goes to shit again. Then, it’s a different story. But even if we can pick up a few yards here and there and we are good at pass blocking we’ll move the ball.
You rush 21x/gm at 4.4 yds per carry and you’re at 92 yds/gm. You rush 28x at 3.8 yds per carry and you’re at 106 yds/gm.

    • it’s preseason and, once again, we’re toying with the offensive line where other teams may have their lines set and are going with the same rb’s they’ve had. Plus, we’re toying with two different blocking schemes at this time with a new o-line coach who may be working on getting some guys to break bad habit they learned in past years.

    • Piggy,
I also think the combination of the speed of the offense in running plays as we saw in game 3 coupled with the running game will pay dividends for the run later in the game when we need to control the ball to put the game away.

Didn’t Drake have a 33 yard catch and run, and I heard he was decent on kick off returns…..maybe that is the reason for the comments?

    against who? the replacement players??

    Lou,

I wasn’t justifying the logic, just throwing out a potential reason. I really don’t care, I am just glad he made it out of the game healthy, and I hope he has a great career as a Dolphin.

  6. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Lou

I’m thinking the starters are set on the OL

    Albert – Tunsil – Pouncey – Bushrod – James

And I expect it to be strong pass blocking line

But I don’t know about running
Hopefully, as you suggested, they just keep at it even if it’s lower average per run

  7. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    IMO Gase appears very decisive

It didn’t take long (despite Twitter chatter) to see Tunsil at LG where we expected him from day 1 after he was drafted

There may be some moving around the depth chart with Parker
But for the most part I thought 1-5 was set at WR at the start of the preseason with the 2 2016 draftees being 4 and 5

And I think we will see Drake and Grant returning kicks and there was not hesitance to get them doing that as soon as they were ready

I don’t think there was a ton of shuffling around this offseason

    Just me?

  8. First claim put in could be soon. Bills may be releasing Manny Lawson and if I’m T’baum unless he’s hurt I put in a claim.

I thought about making it 21-20, but I figured the Fins would get at least one FG so that is how I got to that score. I thought about the Price s Right thing as I typed it…LMAO!

  22. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Okay 26-23 MIA. We better practice silent counts this week. It’s gonna be loud.

The key to playing in SEA is don’t start slow and let them off to a fast start or it’s going to be tough to come back in their building. I’d start off running the ball a lot to keep the dogs off and not get our OL on their heels early. Some early sacks and/or turnovers will get that crowd going nuts. Even if we run 3 and out on our first possession I’d do it.

I’m a “good fan”. I watch whether I think they’ll win or lose. Only a bad fan just watches games they think we’ll win. Lol
    ***
I’m just happy if I can actually watch the game somehow.

  26. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s funny how easy it is to get down on a guy like Ajayi because he fumbled on the first play and then had a drop in the last PS game. Yet he only had 3 rushes and one pass attempt to work with. So he really had no chance to make up for it other than a 16 yard run. That gets kind of lost in the evaluation. RBs need a bunch of touches to really see where they’re at. But a couple of mistakes and people start pushing him down the depth chart. LOL

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

You left out the apostrophe between the RB and the s, and therefore, you drop down a couple of slots on the bloggers depth chart . . . . Just like that!

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

RBI is an acronym, thus a noun: singular RBI, plural RBIs. If you want to say the words, say them, don’t use the acronym. You would not use the plural for ‘an RBI double’ to say ‘runs batted in double’ meaning one run.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

It’s not just from this one game, it’s the entire body of work since he’s been on the team. What has he done? It’s more of a last straw type of thing.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Guys like Foster show vision, and make a nice play making you say wow. Guys like Ajayi just run the ball (JAGs), and if there happens to be a hole there they go through, but have no clue how to make a play when there’s nothing there. Foster had 3 plays in game 3 where he did something Ajayi hasn’t shown yet.

  27. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
I know you were just busting balls. I just think it’s a tall order for us to go to Seattle and be competitive. Plus, the home team…and defenses…usually has a big advantage in the first game of the season. I hope we win, but I wouldn’t bet money on it. And this is why I usually don’t do score predictions. Lol

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I hate predicting scores because it makes the game almost a waste of time. Like doing the record. W, L, L, W, W, L, W, L etc. Why watch the weeks I picked losses? LOL

  28. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
I don’t like it because the homer in me always wants to pick the Dolphins. Our 1-15 season was a bitch for me. I ended up second in our picks league overall at work because I always picked the Dolphins. It cost me hundreds of dollars. It sucked, but I kept picking them every damn week. I got it right once! Lol

I have a hard time with picking losses for my favorite team, so i generally let myself just lay down losses then force myself to go back and try to be more realistic on some of the games lol

  31. D's avatar D says:

53 cuts that i like so far.

Cyril Richardson, i think he is better than any of the PS eligible guys we have. Eric Striker as a SS prospect. In that capacity, he is better than we have that are PS eligible, and dude has a great personality/work ethic. Reese Dismukes, same as Richardson, and he has versatility to play OC, which was his position in college. Ian Seau, needs some work on keeping contianment on the outside, but i think there is something to work with there. Id take a shot on Justin Hunter if he is still practice squad eligible, if not maybe still, he has great size and speed. Bishop Sankey would be a very good RB replacement for who ever we were going to keep if we keep 4. He would be better than Williams or DT3.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t believe Striker is fluid enough to be a DB. He’s a fast attack type guy but over-matched much of the time because he’s not big enough to be a front 7 guy. He’s an extreme tweener with no real position other than STs and a blitzer from somewhere.

  32. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Can we not use MFer?

  33. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    D,
The Vikes cut Antone Exum and John Sullivan. Both are potential fits for us. Sullivan, if healthy, is a pretty good player. He’s be really quality depth at the least. Exum was actually doing good, but the Vikes have great depth at safety.

  34. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If they didn’t games would be 10-9 all the time. We’re too tough on guys sometimes. It’s not easy to play this game and always win the battle.

Don’t forget a bunch of us met him when he came to the first Fest. I saw flags, but he was nice enough. And he and Mike E had a bromance going. And no one nicer than Mike E.

I think the Bradford trade makes the Vikings better than they were with Bridgewater.

The Dolphins have also (via multiple media reports) released:

    Chimdi Chekwa, CB
    Deandre Coleman, DT
    Shamiel Gary, S
    Tyler Gray, LB
    Chris Jones, DT
    Dominique Jones, TE
    Cleyon Laing, DE
    Rashaan Melvin, CB
    Cedric Reed, DE
    Daniel Thomas, RB

That leaves Miami with nine players left to cut.

With Young cut I think Turner makes it.

Dolphins waive Ulrick John, per source. So two backup offense tackles released in Sam Young and John

  90. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I think Turner is worse at RT, than anyone that has played it this preseason.

  91. Amaro and Milliner are going to be released by the Jets. Both never became what people expected of them.

My roster predictions are getting shredded. lol

Dolphins cut TE Thomas Duarte, per source. Expected to go on p-squad if not claimed.

  94. Face it. the team can cut all the o-linemen but for the top 6 and pick up 3 guys on waivers as good as what they’ve got right now
