A loss at Baltimore could possibly come back to haunt us. It’s possible they end up at 9-7 with us and would hold a tiebreaker. If we can manage a 3-2 record with one of those losses against AZ I think we get in for sure. All of the wildcard contenders play each other at least twice over the last five games so it’s basically impossible to predict what it’s going to take. Tennessee plays 3 games against other contenders so we definitely need them to lose a couple just to be safe. Both Denver and KC have tough schedules remaining so it’s a safe bet they are both around the 9-7 or 10-6 number by the end of the season. If Buffalo beats us they have a decent shot. It helps that NE may not have anything to play for by week 17. A few Oakland losses would help that scenario. No way I’m rooting for NE to get home field through the playoffs though. Screw them.

Ravens have been a thorn in our side since 2007
However we did get our 1st win over them in a long time last year.
or was that just a dream?
    Bottom Line
    GET FLACCO!

AT YESTERDAY’s NINERS-DOLPHINS GAME a fella was sitting about 8-9 rows ahead of me and Young Stanger with a “NYC DOLFANS CLUB” biker jacket that had something like “BROOKLYN” in the center of the jacket. You can bet yer ASS this guy will be at the Fins @ Jets game later in December—-he was ULTRA enthusiastic after every good play by Miami!! –MIKE E & BRIAN & KEN & PIGGY—are you guys doing that game?? THAT would be so-o-o-o cool!
    —————-
A YOUNG CO-WORKER, his fiancee, and a couple of other friends who went to their FIRST Dolphins game yesterday stopped at a HOOTERS in Naples on the way back to Tampa from the game. Almost two hours after the game, the patrons were STILL celebrating Miami’s last play win over San Francisco! NAPLES IS A HUGE DOLPHINS TOWN and the residents are truly pumped over the 6-game winning streak! I really haven’t seen south Florida Dolfans this excited about the team since 2000!!

    • Ken says:

I don’t think so OD. We did do it 1 year and it was a blast

      • olddolphan says:

There was a report on a Miami radio station that the Dolphins’ ticket office received a significant number of requests for tickets to this week’s game at Baltimore and the game at the Jets. The source went on to say that ONLY 1 FAN requested tickets to the Dec. 24 game in BUFFALO!

  6. Tim Knight says:

The NFL pundits have all declared Tannehill as a legit QB for weeks.

Half the teams in the league would take him over who they have. I guess that’s just my opinion but I think I’m right. LOL

  7. olddolphan says:

DRG: YOU SUGGESTED a scenario at your 7:01 post that included Miami possible losing to Arizona. Barring serious injuries, there’s NO WAY Miami loses at home to the Cardinals. Arizona has won only 1 of their last 5 games, and was blown out by Atlanta yesterday 38-19. IF Arizona loses to the Redskins this Sunday they’ll be 4-7-1 and OUT of the playoff picture. Just DON’T see them coming into Miami and stealing what would be for them a meaningless victory.

    • Brian in NY says:

What he meant was that was a loss we could have- it being an NFC opponent, it wouldn’t hurt us if things came down to a playoff tiebreaker.

okay, better idea, lets talk about how much greater you think newton is or bortles is over t hill. i for one sure wish the fins had one of those qbs. i mean who wouldnt take a 4-7 or a 2-9 qb over a 7-4 one

(based on you post in the past about t hill i dont think you should talk about trolling and players)

  10. finfanrob says:

all this talk about this or that team winning so the fins make the playoffs. here is a simple idea, just win the rest of your games and you wont need other teams to help you get in the playoffs

I will just say this much I will never question the efficacy of psychopharmacology again. We put him in counseling and they recommended medication. He is a completely a different kid. He deals with stress much better and his relationship with his mother is so much better. 12 is a difficult age there are physical and social changes going on which makes it hard. The bottom line is don’t give up and don’t get disheartened

Watched the game again. Forgot to mention this last night. If Grant never receives another kick, I would be fine with that. If they keep putting him back there, he may end up costing us a game. Drake on kickoffs and Landry on punt returns works fine for me.

Playboy mansion or Robs sofa (stained of course)? Hmmm it’s a tough one for them

to be honest not anymore. playboy doesnt show nudity, i am more then happy to take naked pictures or hell even home movies of them

  30. son of a son of a shula says:

I think I’d rather see Grant worked into the offense more instead of ST but it is a good way to get him on the field I get that.
Drake should be the primary kick returner going forward while we own a playoff spot. Go with our strengths.

  31. finfanrob says:

  36. CavalierKong says:

If Grant was involved in the offense, I’d keep him, but all he does is ST. At this point he is superfluous because Drake is killing it on returns. I certainly won’t 2nd guess Gase though if he keeps putting him out there, lol. It’s early returns right now, but Gase appears to be the man.

  37. Ken says:

Alright I am turning in for the evening. Peace to you all

  38. son of a son of a shula says:

Oh and quietly Rambo has been an excellent addition. It’s too bad Jones is out for this run but at least Thomas and Rambo have stepped up pretty well.

    • CavalierKong says:

Our whole secondary has been a surprise. They aren’t great by any stretch of the imagination, but they are getting the job done. They play pretty smart schematically. There aren’t a lot of busted coverages or stupid mistakes. And we bend between the 20s but we really seem to step up a notch in the red zone.

  39. CavalierKong says:

We’re young in the secondary too. Hopefully some of the younger guys develop into stud DBs.

  47. Good morning gang!

I’ll put my prediction down as 23-14.

  48. The game vs BAL is a MUST WIN for us. BUF is just one game behind us at this point and they’ve got OAK this week but you never know what’s going to happen. It’s a 4 pm. game so we won’t know anything at the end of the BAL game.
We, of course, hold the tie breaker at the moment but we can’t let things slip away and let BUF back into the playoff picture and let them take over 2nd in the division.
    We need to keep winning.

  49. Ken says:

I think Vinnie is our good luck charm. He joined the blog and we started winning

  50. ESPN dropped the Dolphins from 11 to 12 in the power rankings today. They shot the Steelers from 13 to 9. Northeast bias is just the best!

  51. Is it me or does Kaep’s head look like a ballsack in desperate need of a trim?

  52. Mike E. says:

This is from NFL.com’s Power Ranking. Not ours, but Buffalo’s.

Such an important win for the Bills on Sunday. At 6-5, they are still a game back in the wild-card race. Yet, two of the teams they trail are certainly vulnerable. The 7-4 Broncos still have games remaining against the Patriots, Chiefs and Raiders. The Dolphins are the weakest team in the NFL with seven wins or more. Buffalo will host Adam Gase’s upstarts at New Era Field on Christmas Eve.

    • This Bills game is certainly looking more difficult with Sammy Watkins back. They’ve won 2 in a row and are gaining steam. The games against the Ravens, Bills and Patriots will define our entire season. I’m also nervous about the Cardinals game. Their record is trash, but David Johnson is such a beast and that offense can always get hot. Luckily for us, their O-Line is pretty atrocious in pass protection.

  53. Mike E. says:

I guess in a way, I see why people don’t think the Dolphins are a top 10 team. We haven’t really taken it to a team besides Pittsburgh during the 6 game win streak. We’ve been pulling out late victories, or just barely hanging on to them. For us, we’re ecstatic because those are games we’ve lost for more than a decade. It really doesn’t matter where we’re ranked, we just need to keep winning our games.

  54. I don’t care about Power Rankings, I don’t care about Air Player of the Week or Ground Player of the Week honors. Only thing that matters to me is we continue to win and show improvement. We had to play a lot of backups this last game and barely came away with the win.
This game vs BAL is extremely important to us because if BUF can upset OAK we’re tied for 2nd in the East with them and there’s a chance we let not only the playoffs slip through our fingers but also 2nd in the division.
So, like Wake said, wait until the season is over for the praise and the accolades. 7-4 can get ugly quickly. We’re not a good December team. We need to change that with Gase running the show.

  55. Mike E. says:

Carson Palmer is KILLING them. I’m surprised they haven’t pulled the plug on him yet.

    ———————-

He certainly isn’t playing well, but he’s getting killed out there. He’s gotten sacked 33 times and hit 88 times. Both of those are 3rd in the NFL behind only the Colts and the Browns.

    • Mike E. says:

Realistically, he’s going to have finish the season, they don’t really have a viable option to replace him. It just seems like every time I flip to one of their games, Palmer is throwing an ill advised INT.

  56. A lot of talk about drinking the Kool Aid but I’d hate to tell you that most of us have had the I.V. installed for weeks now. If you’re drinking it you need to catch up.

  57. Ken says:

We get no love from the pundits or the league. I love it!

    • BoulderPhinfan says:

When you’ve been bad for so long it takes time for people to believe in you. Beat the ravens and there will be many believers. Lose and its same ole same ole.

      • stangerx says:

Boulder — I am actually not with Ken on that one. I think we got too much love when the streak started form folks who wanted a story. Now that we are in a playoff spot some are going to the next one…..which goes to over-hyped so they can say they called that one if it happens.

  58. stangerx says:

You guys might like Power Rankings, but I do. Especially these days.
    Will note three things though.
Only 12 teams make the playoffs.
Broncos and Chiefs still rated a good bit above us.
Ravens just one or two spots below us in each of these.
    ———————————————
CBS Sports (Prisco) — #10 (up 1 spot)
Winning six straight has them in the playoff hunt. Their game at Baltimore this week will feel like a playoff game.
    ——————-
    ESPN — #12 (up 5 spots)
The Dolphins have won six straight for the first time since 2005, Nick Saban’s first year as head coach of the team. Think about that for a minute. The Dolphins look for their first seven-game win streak since 1985 when they play at Baltimore this week.
    ——————-
    NFL.com — #11 (down 1 spot)
The 7-4 record is fun for a fan base that has suffered enough in the post-Marino apocalypse. The Dolphins escaped for the second straight week, weathering a late surge by Colin Kaepernick and the almost-Browns-like 49ers on Sunday. On that note, Miami’s win brought back memories of the narrow survival vs. Cleveland back in Week 3. The scores were almost identical (31-24 Sunday, 30-24 a couple months back). Of course, before Sunday, the Dolphins hadn’t played any quarterback who was going to rush for 113 yards. (Heck, it didn’t look like Jared Goff would make that throwing the ball for most of the game vs. Miami in Week 11.) That’s a tough in-game adjustment to make, to say the least. It’s also quite tough to keep a team that should’ve lost to the Rams last week (who lost to the Saints 49-21 on Sunday, by the way) and barely beat the 49ers this week in the top 10.

  59. Mike E. says:

Every week is a test in the NFL. Some tests are tougher than others though, and this week will be a tougher matchup for us. The Ravens have the best defense we’ve faced in a while. We really need that O-line healthy, but odds are, we only get 1 guy back, if that.

    • BoulderPhinfan says:

I wish our oline was healthy as well for this game. Our defense has to step up to keep us in the game this week and hopefully we can eek out a win in the 4th.

  60. Ken says:

    Stanger:
I just love the fact we are getting no respect. I want our guys to be playing with a chip on their shoulder. I remember in 2007 when the Giants eeked their way into the playoffs and no one thought they were going anywhere but they beat the 17-0 Patriots for a SB title

    • stangerx says:

We were getting a lot of love though, just not after we were slotted into a playoff spot. The guys who do such are just looking for clicks and headlines, even with a baseline of facts. Watch what happens if we lose to the Ravens (beating them will still set us up as a team to predict to fall).

      • BoulderPhinfan says:

I think if we beat the ravens in baltimore we’ll be considered a serious playoffs team. This game has a playoff feel and good teams rise in those games. If this was philbin I’d say for sure we’re gonna get killed. I can’t wait to see what Gase team does in this situation.

  61. BoulderPhinfan says:

    Interesting stat. Shula is king

” And finally, while this six-game win streak is impressive, here’s some perspective: Don Shula won at least six straight games nine times during his tenure in South Florida. Mind-boggling when you think about it. “

  62. Mike E. says:

If we’re short 3 guys on the O-line again, it will be very interesting to see what Gase does. I really don’t want to see Sam Young at LT against the Ravens, that just isn’t good.

  63. stangerx says:

  65. Rhino says:

nfl rankings… (just a little annoying even though very subjective)

Pittsburg ranked higher than Miami despite fins kicking their asses when they were 4-1 !! and we have a better record.

All I want for Christmas is to be one game behind the Pats going in to that last game of the season….

  66. Rhino says:

so who will be healthy enough for the o-line this week?

  67. Rhino says:

Stanger, based on the games remaining you posted…
best chance for a Pats loss is AT Denver. We’d have to win out to win the division in this scenario, but if you don’t play to WIN, why bother playing. 😉
We may have to cheer for Oakland’s cinderella season to continue. They could knock out a lot of our playoff contenders in the event of some bad games for the Fins.

Can Fins avoid the December fade??? I think so. Our rookies didn’t play much… they learned… they have fresh legs… they have talent… (Drake, Carroo). Tanny might be learning how to find matchup advantages (of which Sims and Parker seem to create a lot of).

    • stangerx says:

Rhino — agree with all that except I ain’t even thinking about the div. If the Div is in the picture then we are in the playoffs anyhow…..so why even think about it?

And call not a homer, but am convinced we will not win out even if I think this team better set up for the cold weather games to come. 4-1 and we are in. 3-2 and we worry about what the other teams did. 2-3 and probably not even if we could still luck our way in.

  68. stangerx says:

Now Gase is even sounding like a funny guy to party with. Now I know what it is like to when Omar has a bromance.
    ——————-
“Gase has even won over Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell, a former rapper [2 live crew] and South Florida legend who once complained to a couple friends in a local bar back in January that Gase would fail largely because of Tannehill. When a gentleman sitting nearby that night said Tannehill would get better — and the Dolphins would, as well — Campbell argued heatedly with the guy until he realized it was Gase having fun at his expense.”

  69. BoulderPhinfan says:

Does anyone else think Bushrod had a terrible game against the niners? I thought the left side of the line would be the issue with those 3 out but I think bushrod was our worst oline player against the niners.

  70. herdfan says:

Soooo….non football post. I have this coffee mug at work, it’s a tall latte style with a D type of handle. It’s mine. I bought it just for work because I don’t like their cups. Apparently I’m not alone because someone keeps taking it! I put it in the dishwasher and it’s gone the next day. Then it will turn up again. It’s been missing for about a week now and I’m getting pissed off.

    • Mike E. says:

Sucks! If it makes you feel any better, that happened to me. I met the rep for one of the lens companies, and gave ME a mug. I had it at work, and one day it’s gone. I knew who took it, because she was the only one who could have taken it, because I kept it in the lab, and no one else goes in there except the Opticians. I asked her, and she said she thought the rep just dropped it off, and she liked it, so she took it. She did bring it back though. 🙂

      • herdfan says:

I like this style cup because it holds more coffee and the handle type. The ones they have here are regular mugs but the handle is this silly circle. Imma bout ready to go looking for it. The thing is this has happened enough that pretty much everyone KNOWS this is my cup and they take it anyway. Assholes.

    • bookman11 says:

Maybe when you find out who took it, you can put some fake cold sores or something on your lips and go up to them and ask, “have you seen my coffee mug? I think there is something wrong with it.”

  76. drg says:

I wouldn’t say Baltimore is a must win as much as it is a great opportunity to put us in the drivers seat for a playoff spot. I like our chances to go 2-2 the rest of the way and 10-6 will get us into the playoffs most likely since we hold a bunch of tiebreakers in head/head plus conf record.

A loss at Baltimore definitely removes our margin for error. Would have to beat Buffalo almost for certain and get two more wins. We’d still be slightly vulnerable in tiebreakers unless our only other loss was AZ.

It’s also quite tough to keep a team that should’ve lost to the Rams last week (who lost to the Saints 49-21 on Sunday, by the way) and barely beat the 49ers this week in the top 10.

why “Should we have lost” last week? Did we score more points that the other team? Did we dominate them in the last 6 minutes to score two TD’s? Then we won like we SHOULD HAVE!

    Fucking assholes

If the Ravens beat us, and we have identical records they would get in for 2 reasons, head to head, and conference record. We need to beat the Ravens.

If Albert has to wear a cast, that’s a tough job to play with a cast. He won’t be able to use his hand at all.

then we should get less holding penalties!

  80. drg says:

    Mike,

They have a really tough schedule. I doubt they end up better than 9-7. There’s also the division winner up for grabs and Baltimore currently holds the tiebreaker on Pittsburgh.

    Dolphins — #31
No fan base lobbies like the Dolphins … to be No. 32. For the second straight week, received tweets imploring me to call out Miami as the worst team in the league. Here’s the problem: Even if I made that play, it would be nullified by a false start, holding penalty or some other ill-timed Dolphins infraction. Give Miami 83 more yards of penalties on Sunday and 23 total fouls over the last three games. Hey, at least the Dolphins make up for it by not even converting 30 percent of third downs. Miami ran 41 plays this weekend. That’s a horrific number. The Patriots ran 41 in the first half in Cleveland.

Oops….that was from Week 5. How far we have come. Sounds like some people on this board tweet Harrison though.

We still commit a lot of penalties, but most of them are defensive penalties. Oh, and we won 6 in a row since then

  83. Rockphin says:

I agree with DRG above. We MUST win the game against Baltimore. We hold the H2H against Pitt so if we beat Balt too we will hold the H2H against both of them and Balt will slip out of Division leader spot to a potential WC spot. (Behind us because of H2H & Conf records)

We cannot afford many / any conference losses.

    Rock,

If a 9-7 team gets in the playoffs there will be at least 3 other teams with the same record. Conference record would most likely be the tiebreaker and unless one of our losses comes against AZ we probably won’t win it. Both Pitt and Baltimore would have to go 4-1 against tough schedules including a head/head matchup for a Baltimore loss tiebreaker to matter.

That’s why I’m saying get to 10-6 and we are most likely in for sure. That’s my focus. Go 3-2 the rest of the way and we should be good. Mike is right that Denver and KC are the most dangerous teams, but they both have tougher schedules remaining than Miami and play each other.

I think we are really vulnerable. Our defense has improved, but they still are going to struggle and give up points. Our run game is going to struggle with the OL issues. Gotta hope Tannehill continues his hot streak and we keep catching a few breaks with turnovers and ST. I think we’ll be in every game and have a chance in the fourth quarter. It’s worked out well for the last six weeks.

    LOL @ drg!

A 9-7 team is not making the playoffs as a WC this year.

  89. Ken says:

If we beat Baltimore I think we make the playoffs but if we lose it will be difficult to get in. Most important game of the season imo

For sure. My boys are finally getting the bug and love watching games now. I’ve felt like it’s borderline child abuse raising them to be Dolphins fans the past decade.

ROFLMAO!! I used to say that to my Ex-Father-in-law the Jet’s fan. “How can you raise your children in south florida to be stinking jets fans? That is child abuse!”

Also, 5.8 yards per play (if sustained for rest of season) would be the highest average for the Dolphins since 1988. #InGaseWeTrust
