Mmmmm!

So what’s happening with our Miami Dolphins?

RFA MLB Kiko Alonso has stated he doesn’t want to be moved to outside LB. He did say he will do whatever is best for the team, but he feels like he’s best suited to be the teams MLB, and would prefer to stay there.

Rumors are flying around that 1 year wonder WR Kenny Stills is going to get paid, and get paid BIG TIME! Supposedly, he will be seeing upwards of $12M annually. After year 1 with Miami, you all know I wanted to cut him. His 2nd year (contract year) started out rocky with a kneel and a drop, but he won me over as he finished the year with a team leading 9 TD’s, which is way better than any of his other 3 years in the league. It would be nice to keep him, but if the money gets to that point, I’ll wish him the best, unless he’s playing against us.

I keep hearing Dont’a Hightower associated with MIA interest, and frankly, I don’t get it. Guy can’t tackle, he doesn’t run especially well either. As Lou and I have both pointed out, the guy just doesn’t make tackles on his own, as evidenced by the fact that out of his 404 total tackles in 5 seasons, only 251 are solo. No thanks!

Stephen Ross took 16 Miami Dolphins players to NYC for a week long business seminar. I think that’s awesome, and a very cool thing for our team’s owner to do. GOOD ON STEPHEN ROSS! BTW, Tannehill was there (not limping) and so was Cam Wake. Excellent experience for these young men as football is a relatively short lived career.

-The NFL combine workouts begin in 2 days, on Friday March 3rd. I’m really looking forward to it. As much as people say, and by people I mean fans, front office people, coaches, and basically anyone associated with the sport says don’t put too much into combine numbers, well, they do, so it’s a bunch of baloney I say! No, you’re not going to change a LB’s pre combine grade from a 5.8 to 6.8 because he ran a 4.4 instead of a 4.55, but if the whole package impresses, meaning he runs a 4.4, runs 4.1 20 yard shuttle, puts up 25 reps, does a 35” vertical and 12’ broad jump, well maybe he increases half a point.

Certain things just matter. If you know an OL needs to hit the weight room before he performs at the combine, that’s fine, but if the OG you had your eye on puts up 15 reps, that just ain’t gonna cut it. If GM’s see CB’s have trouble flipping their hips in the backpedal drills, that’s a downer too. There are many things you can find out from the combine, and while many poo-poo it, I for one do not. OK, I admit, it completely intrigues me, it really does. I can’t wait to devour all the numbers, and I will have positional comparisons for you guys starting next week. I’ll do one position a week, so I’ll have some good stuff for you people week after week.

Enjoy the combine, and GO DOLPHINS!

LOL @ Tim – Like that, except more sauce. lol

  2. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Anyone ever have alligator bites with a dipping sauce? Had them when I was in South Carolina a couple of years ago. Very good. Tastes like chicken. LOL

    • D's avatar D says:

Like a really chewy chicken. Gator tail is pretty tough meat unless its prepared and cooked exactly right.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah a little more chewy but not bad. I was surprised. I’m eating reptile/dinosaur meat. LOL

  3. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I love how SB just disappears. It’s like his wife is sitting next to him and says “One post honey, and that’s it, I don’t like those boys on that blog anyway, they’re nasty boys.” lol

  4. D's avatar D says:

Our wings down here arent that bad, you just got to know where to get them. A couple of places in Mobile have some really awesome wings. Cant say that i have ever really gone around to the places in Hattiesburg, have only had wings from the chain restaurants there and if thats all there is i can see why SB7 is complaining.

  5. D's avatar D says:

Im impressed that Fournette ran a 4.5 same as Cook for sure. Cook is a tiny little guy compared to Fournette.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Cook at 5-10 210 and 4.5 speed doesn’t tell the whole story though. The guy plays friggin fast.

    • D's avatar D says:

Oh i know, he is shifty as all hell and has great acceleration through his cuts. He’s a great RB.

      • D's avatar D says:

My statements were ore about how impressive a 4.5 for a guy like Fournette was, i was just using Cook to represent that Fournette being on that same level of speed is really impressive.

  6. D's avatar D says:

Kenyan Drake would have been the second fastest RB if he had run at the combine this year.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I love our backfield. I think it’s set up perfectly. I think it’s going to be a staple of what we do on offense in 2017. If I’m Gase I’m excited. 🙂

  7. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

D, Fournette has beast ability but Cook is a damn good 2nd option.

  8. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Ajayi ran a 4.57, and had a real quick 4.1 20 yard shuttle. He also jumped out of the stadium, with a 39″ vertical, and 121″ broad jump. He’s about the same size as Fournette

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ever notice how Ajayi lunges for an extra 2-3 yards after some runs with that vertical explosion? The same with how Wake does it on that low “lion” like rush with his 45″ vertical. That shows a lot of power. Explains a lot. 🙂

  9. D's avatar D says:

    Ethan Pocic 26 reps BP, 5.15 40, 27 vert, 8’11 broad, 7.89 3 cone, 4.81 20 yard shuttle.

None are really disappointing per say, though id kinda wish his cone drill would have been slightly better. 26 reps in the BP is solid, and combined with a pretty good broad jump, means he should have the power to play OG well. Cone drill means he probably doesnt have elite feet for a OT position.

  10. D's avatar D says:

That OL that ran the 4.81 40, also had a tie for most reps on BP…. pretty impressive physical skills.

  11. D's avatar D says:

Samaje Perine is a guy who i kinda liked as a compliment to what we have, and felt like if he dropped far enough in the draft i wouldnt be opposed to taking him. He is a brutal downhill runner, big strong and just a semi truck when he gets a head of steam. I like the guys we have but i think if we did want another complimentary back, someone to take those punishing kinds of runs off of Ajayi, Perine wouldnt be a bad one. He had 30 reps in the BP. Thats really good for a RB.

  12. D's avatar D says:

Interview with Greir at Combine he said they planned on addressing DE in draft and FA, and were trying to get Branch back, but were waiting on the agent, who said he wanted to see what the market showed as for his value before they began truly negotiating.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He said he thought edge rushers is a good draft class. Never heard him say anything about Branch. I might have walked away though. What were the specifics?

Some food for thought – Tannenbaum and Grier are Parcells’ disciples. Expect really tough well built front 7 players who can move and run and don’t stop. He basically laughed and said we need a lot on defense.

      • D's avatar D says:

He basically said that Branch was someone that they wanted back and that they had opened talks with his agent, but that Branches agent wanted to test the market first before they started negotiating the contract. He said Stills agent was in the same boat.

      • D's avatar D says:

He also said that they planned to address the DE position in FA AND the draft, so sounds like we might see at least one DE signed via FA, and i dont know if he is counting a potential re-sign of Branch or if that was an “in addition to” statement.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I heard the Stills stuff. Thanks on Branch.

      • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

I have a feeling if the Cook to Philadelphia trade goes down Stills agent will be quick to negotiate a deal w/ Miami.

  13. D's avatar D says:

Way both he and Gase talked about Still situation, i think they are going to make him a offer reflective or what they feel his value is to our team, but they didnt seem overly confident that their offer would be the best one he gets. I think they are planning on not being able to keep him. Thats just the vibe i get from both those guys statements.

  14. D's avatar D says:

I have a feeling if the Cook to Philadelphia trade goes down Stills agent will be quick to negotiate a deal w/ Miami.
    ————————————–
Yeah its hard to really negotiate right now anyways, i mean you have so many things changing hands, so many changes to depth of tha FA pool, as well as teams that are involved at each position, a lot could change, but from what i have heard reading a few different sites with regards to interest in Stills, is that there are a few out there, so i doubt the one move taking Philly out of the running makes them run back to us, but it might strengthen the impact of our offer.

    • D's avatar D says:

Things havent really changed for the better for Stills though, not in his negotiating strength. Alshon Jefferey not being tagged or re-signed, means he stay in play in FA, Stabby is now in play in FA, Victor Cruz. The pool is getting deeper and he is becoming one the lesser names in it. Might not change his interests, but its certainly changing the top end number he can expect to be paid.

    • D's avatar D says:

If i were Miami i wouldnt budge off my number. Right now they are in a pretty good negotiating position, with Caroo in the wings, and pretty decent talent in the draft.

  15. D's avatar D says:

    Vollmer just got cut.

  16. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

D, I think the trio, lol, is worried that some team knocks it out of the park for Stills. Otherwise I think we’ll re-sign him at our price. Stills is going to make more money than he ever dreamed of regardless.

  17. D's avatar D says:

Reading some notes on roto and it said that there is a possible three way trade brewing between Dallas, Washington and the 9er’s. Cousins to the 9er’s, Romo to Washington, and draft picks to Dallas. The commnets by Rotoworld were that they really didnt put a lot on this news simply because its extremely rare to find 3 team trades anymore, but that there had been previous rumors/news about 9er’s being interested in getting Cousins from Washington, and there were previous reports of Washington going after Romo if things fell through with getting him signed. They also said that Cousins wants out of Washington pretty bad, so might be a little something to it.

  18. D's avatar D says:

Man the Jets are committed to this rebuild. On top of the guys they have already cut, “Decker, Marcus Gilchrist, Calvin Pryor, Sheldon Richardson and Buster Skrine are all in danger of exiting.” They also said David Harris might be another guy they consider, but those other guys would be more on top of the list with Harris as a possible if they happen to find another option at MLB in FA or think they can get one in the draft.

    • D's avatar D says:

I honestly wouldn’t mind taking a chance on Calvin Pryor. Richardson wouldn’t be bad either, but he will be expensive. Skrine isnt a bad slot corner either, but isnt that big of an upgrade over what we have with a much bigger price tag.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s what blowing it up looks like. 😉

      • D's avatar D says:

Some of those guys too look like they might have lost their focus on playing football. Maybe they need a change of scenery, maybe they are just showing their true colors, not sure, but Pryor in particular should be a somewhat low risk investment though, and coming out of college he was a terror at safety.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’d take Decker over Stills every day, but not sure on his injury.

  19. dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

So Reuben Foster had about as bad of a combine as you could possibly have. Rumored bad interviews, coming innat the size of a WLB, and getting sent home for arguing w/ a hospital employee…..don’t know how far he drops, but I’m almost to the point of saying pass.

    • Sounds like a case of Tunsilitis to me

      • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

If he drops to Miami you’d have to trust what Saban will tell Gase. I think if Gase gets the 👍 From Saban & Foster is there at 22 Miami will take him & plug him in at WLB day one. If Saban gives the Demetrius Underwood comparison that’s why Miami wouldn’t take him.

      • I find the situation interesting because, regardless of how Phins fans feel about Saban, you really wouldn’t expect this from one of his guys.

      • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

Maybe, maybe not….seems like Saban is keeping more of these types lately. If the rumors are true that Tim Williams drug history is just as bad as Gregory’s. At least in the past Saban has been upfront about his player problems when entering the NFL. I think, & D can probably better answer this, that Foster was the dipshit who committed to Auburn & got the logo tattooed on his arm and then switched Alabama😂 Still hits like a Mack truck though

      • I wouldn’t put a lot of emphasis on Foster’s pre-college stuff. A lot of players commit to one school and decommit and then commit somewhere else. I know Foster committed to Bama then to Auburn and then back to Bama but that’s not important at this point.

      • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

Pre-college stuff will get brought up to check his historical trends. Now the tattoo thing was just 😂. Teams are going to dig a little deeper now in regards to attitude issues. I do think the most important evidence they’ll go by though will be Saban.

  20. No matter how you feel about it you really gotta love the positive PR Steve Ross’ Business Combine has created for the team and the buzz it’s getting right before free agency.

  21. And, maybe you don’t think it makes a difference to NFL free agents, but there’s quite a few player reps who have taken notice and they talk to their players.

  22. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I would take Decker over Stills too, that guy can play. I don’t think we necessarily need him, or Stills for that matter, but if the money was close, I’d take Decker over Stills for sure. I’d much prefer not to have to dole out any more cash to the WR position, considering we have Landry, Parker and Carroo. Just draft another WR.

  23. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    D-Bolt

I think teams will really do their due diligence with Foster. My guess is he’s going to still go top 15-20. Teams won’t let a “Tunsil” happen again, especially now that they have time to investigate.

  24. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Don’t you think paying about $10-12M for a WR, either Stills or someone else not currently on the roster makes the trade to get Carroo seem kind of wasteful? From what I saw last year, I already think it was wasteful. Good thing is, if they work hard with him, I think he can make a big impact this season, especially if we don’t sign another WR.

  25. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Lou

That’s what I mean, whether it’s this guy Gibson, Switzer, or someone else, there’s a guy out there for us that we can draft in the mid to later RD’s with far less cost than Stills or Decker. I think if you sign either one of those guys, I can’t imagine Carroo does a whole lot more than he did last year, unless of course God forbid there’s an injury

  26. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I am for the lack of a better word, concerned, with our new D.C. We had a bad LB Corp last year and then we make the position coach our D.C.

On the other hand, Gase seems to put a lot of stock in his coordinators and grant them a strong voice in player selections so maybe it was just the players we had and we will focus on getting the “right” guys in here. Our secondary seemed to improve, even with all the injuries, under our previous DC who was a defensive backs coach. Either way with Gase in charge I have some hope of this year

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think 97% of it is talent. You probably won’t see any of the LB’s we choose to let go starting on any other teams. Of course, I don’t know who we’re letting go, and it appears that Misi will have to be in full body cast in order for us to part ways with him, but we basically had ST’s guys starting for us. I’m curious to see if they give Jenkins one more shot, I hope they do.

  27. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Just put Grant on the wing and let him run flys and posts all day. Even if you don’t think he can catch, you have to cover him. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally.

  28. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Grant hardly played last year, but my guess is he’s a guy you want to get out in space and let him do his thing. Not sure if he’s got the hands or ability to track the ball on deep routes. He’d also have to be pretty open, because he’s going to always be at a size disadvantage.

  29. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Mike, I was very hopeful the season before last about Jenkins but he was hurt what seemed like all year last season. “Hopefully” he can stay healthy this season if we keep him. I am so sick and tired of saying hopefully. We had a whole bunch of UDFA at the position it was a failure by the FO imo.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I agree Rock, he’s been very disappointing, and he’s rapidly approaching “Misi” status, where you know you can’t count on him. I’d like to give him a shot, but he would just be pat of the competition. I’d pick up Malcolm Smith or someone like him in FA, and draft a couple of LB’s too, one early, one later on

  30. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

You know, as much as the unknown of Burke concerns me at DC, I’m still consoled in the fact that he’s not a former DB coach like the last twenty (sarcasm) DC’s we’ve had since Philbin took over and left.

  31. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Also, Mike, it’s the internet. People are going to disappear from time to time. lol

  33. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

It seems like I spend 1/2 my life sitting in airports or on planes ✈️

I am sending my posts three hours into the future I am a time traveler

  35. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I have no idea about Grant’s deep ball tracking ability either, but he for sure would be running a CB out of the play if he went deep. Also have to think he would be darn good on slants and WR screens or any play where he might get some running room.

  36. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

“When Laremy came up, we’re sitting there and Steve is like, ‘Wow, would you take this guy?’ ‘Yeah, I would. We’ve done our work on him.’ And Mike said yeah. Adam was typing, didn’t even look up and he’s like, ‘Take him.’”

  37. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Stanger

Exactly! It’s usually their biggest opportunity to cash in, so they may as well take it.

  38. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Mike E — thanks again. I’m a Chris Grier fan now. He’s smart, low key and with plenty of insight.

Have made clear — like most of us — that a Gase fan. Am one of Ross too as an owner, even if some may not be on board with that. Still not sure about T-Baum as much, but seems he is working into the mix well. Plus I don’t see him as the guy who wants to be god in Davie. More Ross’ latest ear-in guy who will help with the others so long as the ship is running smoothly. And smooth sailing right now.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It used to be the trifecta and now we have the trio. All three work together and as Grier said there really are no power struggles.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Well from what they said at the time the first trifecta was all peaches and cream too. Didn’t seem that way as much when Ireland got on that plane with Ross. Think the big difference then was Parcells and what was set up before Ross owned. Don’t think you will see a set-up like that again.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

That interview definitely made me a fan of Grier, and really, just the way they are conducting business now. I also believe the things they say, which for a change, is refreshing.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

They’re all very frank about things.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Know he was there first, but have a feeling him and Gase are peas in a pod. And you could sense by what Grier said who he had the most respect for. Gase’s team now.

    Frank Rizzo? R-I-Z-Z-O?

  40. D's avatar D says:

Dobbs had a good combine. Quincy adeboyjo from ole Miss who I have mocked to us late in a few mocks, had a really nice combine too. Currently second best 40 time with a 4.42

  41. D's avatar D says:

Foster left the combine. Apparently had a pretty heated disagreement with medical staff member while they were doing the physical portion

  42. D's avatar D says:

Foster is smallish for a MLB, but he and Alonzo aren’t far off one another and Alonzo has had benefit of several years of pro conditioning programs. I wouldn’t count out Foster as a MLB, if you are looking for speed and athleticism at all LB spots

  43. D's avatar D says:

I really like Cooper Kupp. Seems like a nice guy and gritty gamer, possession kind of receiver. He or Switzer, adeboyjo, Zay Jones, etc would be adequate replacements for Stills with caroo in the mix. I think we really need to stand firm on getting Stills back at our number not his

  44. Randy's avatar Randy says:

“He didn’t believe me,” Grier said. “I was like, ‘Listen, there’s just things out there that you do and what you put on film. I think you’re a second-round talent, but you’re not going to go.’ He and I have a good relationship because I never lied to him.”

  45. D's avatar D says:

Josh Malone 4.41, he is a OK later round guy. Decent receiver out of UTenn

  46. D's avatar D says:

This isn’t just a amazing receiver class but it’s really solid. Lots of guys with good potential. Heavy in the middle, which means should be equivalent talent 4-6, maybe even into the 7th

“[Christian McCaffrey’s] 37.5-inch vertical was far better than Fournette’s 28.5 or Cook’s 30.5 jumps. He also posted a time of 6.57 seconds in the three-cone drill, one of the best ever marks in the drill.”

  51. D's avatar D says:

Stanger, I’m not saying it’s not important but I can say it’s nothing to say he is better than them either. Overall if Fournette is still the best, he has speed, power, and ability to accelerate through cuts to go with really good size, Cook is absolutely the best athlete overall. McCafferty is good as well, hell they are all potential first rounders, but the plus for McCafferty is his versatility and I could really see him as a better version of Ty Montgomery.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

D — I think there is zero chance we pick an RB in the first. Just sounds like there is a chance he goes before we pick, which I like. Not a combine guru, but some that are popping his stock up.

  52. D's avatar D says:

Plenty of speed at receiver this year

  53. D's avatar D says:

If we needed a RB I’d be all over McCafferty because he would fit our offense pretty well. I’d still have a really hard time picking him over Fournette or Cook though.

  54. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

John Ross set a new combine 40 time record?

  55. D's avatar D says:

It’s official now Ross 4.22 new record, but wasn’t wearing the Adidas shoes so no prize other than winning

    • D's avatar D says:

They had unofficial times as low as 4.17 and as high as 4.25. NFL.com was showing their electronic time, which did eventually become the official time

  56. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Looked like he slowed up the last 5 yards or so too.

  57. D's avatar D says:

Way the timing g works, they have several people hand timing, and NFL.co. has an electronic timing method. Official time can be off of any of those but it’s done as they closely inspect each attempt from a more official angle of line crossing both at the starting line, and finish line

  58. D's avatar D says:

4.22 running with a cramp in his leg lol. Dude possibly could have broke 4.2. Bo Jackson apparently has hand times 4.18 or something like that. 6’+ 220+ RB. Thats nuts

  59. D's avatar D says:

Sorry, Bo Jackson was a 4.12

  60. D's avatar D says:

Trent Taylor from LA tech would be a decent late round receiver option. He is a tiny dude, I got a picture of him with my son after the senior bowl. Really nice guy, looked really shifty out there on the field, made some good plays

  61. D's avatar D says:

Ooh Evan Ingram ran a 4.43 so even if you see him as a WR, he’s fast as a WR.

Everett was 4.6 which is pretty fast for a TE, or if you see him as a Clay type, that’s pretty fast for that kind of TE

  62. D's avatar D says:

I don’t think I take Foster out of play for 22, unless the blow up he had at the medical staff guy was because he was given a bad report, I might be concerned if the report is bad but the blow up doesn’t concern me as much as whatever I felt about him in my interview with him

  63. D's avatar D says:

4.7 for Sprinkle, which is not bad at all.

  64. D's avatar D says:

Bucky Hodges 4.58 then 4.61 not bad either. Really good TE class

  67. D's avatar D says:

    4.51-4.56 Howard

  68. D's avatar D says:

Steve Smith Sr talking with Gase right now

  69. D's avatar D says:

    Sprinkle 4.74-4.7

  70. D's avatar D says:

Howard is maybe mid first 15-16ish probably. He could go higher, but I’m assuming the teams in the very top have too many other needs for it to happen. By middle of first you are probably hitting a few teams that might have him as BPA.

  71. D's avatar D says:

Everett looks really good as a receiver. Engram blocks better than people THINK he can because they just look at size and weight and think he can’t possibly. He actually is really solid, he gets good firm when blocking which makes up for some of be lack of bulk.

  72. D's avatar D says:

Engram 4.42 official. Would have been 4th amongst the WRs

  73. D's avatar D says:

Sprinkle looked good in the receiving drilks

  74. D's avatar D says:

Incidentally I think we still have him pretty high on our list despite the Thomas aquisition

  75. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I just realized that Ross was already a to 20 prospect

Wonder if he goes top 10 or even top 5 now

  76. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

“What do I look like?….I am a safety.”

    — Jabrill Peppers, a guy who I wouldn’t mind as my blitzing safety.

  77. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

TIM SAID IF Howard “ends up on the Pats I’m gonna be pissed!” Agreed, Tim. But I’ll be MORE PISSED if Dalvin Cook ends up on the Pats!! With New England’s “Clutch and Grab” blocking
techniques, Cook could go for 2,000 as a ROOKIE!!

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

PS: My GUESS is that Cook goes to the Bucs and reunites with his FSU buddy, Jameis Winston. Bucs AND Seminoles play-by-play man, Gene Deckerhoff, is already dreaming of a special “FSU ALUMS DAY” at Raymond James Stadium! Perhaps he believes “IF Steve Ross can have a Florida Alums Day at the home field of the Hurricanes, maybe the Bucs can have a special FSU ALUMS DAY at the home field of the South Florida Bulls!!”

NAW, the Glazer family isn’t THAT stupid!

  78. Pats offered Saints their #32 for Cooks and Saints rejected it.

  79. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Phish on sticking Grant on the outside, he needs to make a lot of deep catches, because Gase doesn’t just have the ball thrown deep whenever, he sets it, so if you miss it, it hurts the team. Making Stills overrated, so no way they pay him b$g.

  80. If you were to take the Combine numbers at face value Dalvin Cook is a 2nd rd prospect.

  81. D's avatar D says:

My guess on turning down the pats, at least initially, is they think they are close with another team with a higher round pick.

  82. D's avatar D says:

I think Dalvin Cook winds up in GB.

  83. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Maycock on the DBs……wouldn’t mind a top safety, and if the CBs are at value why not? Least lower down.

““Again, the corner and safety class is the best I’ve seen, so you start getting down into the mid-20s with (Alabama’s Marlon) Humphrey. What’s Teez Tabor (from Florida) going to run tomorrow? Adoree Jackson (from USC). The safeties. Jabrill Peppers (from Michigan). He’s kind of a major question. What’s he going to be? How do teams view him? (UConn’s) Obi Melifonwu, is he going to be 22nd pick or the 52nd pick? “

Mike Mayock’s take on the guys from Gerber St: “I think they are way too raw and way too young to make the transition to the next level”

@ProfessorLou1 Mayock cont’d: “Not to mention, they cry like a bunch of babies every time they lose.”

  84. D's avatar D says:

Reddick is looking good against the DL group and in DL skill assessment but I have no clue why he is in there with them.

Tak looked awful in the skill drills.

  85. D's avatar D says:

Jordan Willis has done extremely well

  86. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

At least there are some quality FA Safeties out there that won’t break the bank.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Yep — was thinking in the draft, but then if we go that way we are locked in up top at this point unless they have more faith in Aikens that I do.

  87. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I heard Haason Reddick yesterday on NFL radio. I like that kid a LOT! If he does well in the combine, and I think he will, I’d love to take him at #22

    Ga’grill peppers?

  90. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The thing with Peppers is where does he play? I heard he’s not great in space, more of a box safety, blitzer etc. Do we want a one dimensional attack the LOS safety/LB and play Reshad more as a deep safety? I think our defense calls for more interchangeable safeties.

  91. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Peppers has that attitude too. A Landry for our Defense.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah there’s things I like about him. He might be more of a T.J. Ward type player which isn’t bad but neither have shown to be ballhawks. Peppers only had one INT and 10 PD in college.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Yeah — they can decide who they want, but would I love that guy on our team and watch him play. Only down side is think Jones is better at smelling out a play closer in than in the FS coverage mode. But heck…..the two of them could just make all the other team’s guys real scared over the middle.

  92. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Cunningham looks too tall and lean. Reminds me of a black Kiko. Looks more like a safety. Not that I Think Howard is in play, but Cunningham over Howard, not a fucking chance!

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Mayock also pointed out Cunningham played in 36 games, not a single INT. You should have one by just showing up

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

After saying the same thing about Peppers, I remembered hearing Francesa talking with Gary Danielson about the college game and they were saying the way the game is played by most teams, the chances for INTs and even sacks are really difficult because of all the short screen stuff they run.

    • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

      Haason Chop before Cunningham

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think we’re going LB 1st rd. I still think it will be DL or maybe OL but man that’s a lot of top resources on the OL in recent years. Maybe DL, OL and LB or vice versa. I think the value for LB might be better in 3-5 rounds. I can see us signing a LB in FA, maybe two, so it might not be the biggest concern early in the draft.

  93. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Son

    Agree 100%. Haason CHOP!

  94. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

I’ve been thinking that too, we’d go DE, but it depends on how they feel about who’s left at DE, and who’s left at LB

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah it’s going to be BPA anyway. Grier said that’s what they do. I’m sure they would love to match it with a need, but gotta stick to your board.
