A healthy Jay Ajayi/Kenyan Drake combo could be a great combo, but unfortunately, there are now concussion concerns with our star RB. What happens if Jay Ajayi is out for a prolonged period of time? Do the Dolphins have enough talent in their backfield w/o Ajayi to make a playoff run? Let’s take a look . . .
At Alabama, Kenyan Drake was never “the man”, and was always 2nd fiddle to big back Derrick Henry. Drake had the talent, and was thought to be the guy, but nagging injuries always stole the opportunity for him. In his Sophomore year in 2013, Drake had a nice season, carrying (his high) 92 carries for 694 yards, an impressive 7.5 YPC, along with 8 rushing TD’s. Drake also caught 12 passes for 135 yards and 1 TD. In his entire college career, spanning 4 seasons, Drake had a total of 1495 yards rushing. That’s good and bad. Bad, because he was never asked to carry the load, and good, because he should have a lot more miles left on what should be fresh legs.
Last season as a Miami Dolphins RB, Drake was used sparingly, carrying the ball only 33 times for 179 yards with 2 rushing TD’s. Drake also caught 9 passes for 46 yards. In comparison, Ajayi had 260 carries, so Drake was just in to spell Ajayi, no more than that. The Dolphins also have Damien Williams, who was used in a few different capacities, as a FB, and also as a solid receiver out of the backfield. Williams actually had 2 more carries than Drake, 35 for 115 yards and 3 rushing TD’s. Williams added 23 receptions for 249 yards and 3 TD’s. We also have Storm Johnson, who is on his 3rd team in 3 years, taking the full FLA tour, playing for the Jaguars, Bucs, and now Dolphins. Also on the roster is Senorise Perry and De’veon Smith. De’Veon is probably the only other back here with a fair amount of carries, although in college, at Michigan. De”veon Smith finished his career at Michigan with 495 carries and 2235 yards, 22 TD’s, and a 4.5 YPC.
There was a report that the Dolphins may be interested in well traveled RB DeAngelo Williams, who was a long time Carolina Panthers, and then Pittsburgh Steelers RB. Williams, now 34, can’t be expected to carry the load Ajayi did last year, or more importantly, was expected to carry this year. Williams had less than 100 carries last year, and shouldn’t be expected for much more than that. The Dolphins really need Ajayi, and then we need to pray that he doesn’t have any concussion issues. You can always find a running back to help out, but it’s not likely to find one that can give you what Ajayi gave us last year, or was hoped to give us this year.
Do you think we’ll be OK?
Go Dolphins! Zero in!

I thought Cutler’s said he would only sign if he was the starter? Hope he is close to being in football shape.
I read he never said that about being a starter. We’ll see. I’d go with Moore until he struggles.
He’s going to be the starter. He’s making at least 10 million this season.
I’m not sure the money necessarily means that. We’ll see.
Just cut the bullshit and get the knee surgery already. Rest obviously didn’t fix it last time, just go under the knife and get ready for next season.
I agree he should have the surgery. He’ll be ready by next offseason.
I doubt Cutler is just going to be handed the starting job. Moore is capable too, but you absolutely needed a quality guy to back him up or at the very least compete with him for the starting job.
We’ll see how quickly Cutler gets up to speed. Then by the end of the PS we’ll know.
What I would really like to know now is whether Cutler had been working out to be ready to play if an injury came up or was training exclusively for broadcasting.
I doubt he’s in bad shape or anything. But it will take a few weeks to get into football shape and mode.
What do you think?
stanger,
Yeah, that’s certainly possible. I think it’s still possible Cutler is just the perfect storm sort of QB for this particular situation. Gase knows him. Cutler knows the system. He’s just retired. I think they had to give him that kind of money whether he starts or not because he wouldn’t have come out of retirement otherwise. But, I’m just speculating, of course. Should make preseason a little more interesting, at least. Cutler has plenty of physical talent. I think they also wanted 2 QBs they felt they could win with. Let them compete and best man up.
I think you nailed it. He really was the most logical choice.
Randy — not just me…..it was Cutler and his agent said in FA about he needs a clear starting spot for a good team. But maybe the chance to play for Gase again that was not there before made him back off of that.
Stanger
I doubt he’s been doing football drills, but I’m sure he’s not 40 lbs overweight sitting on his couch eating Ring Dings either. lol
He probably works out to stay in shape, but he’ll need to get into practice soon and start doing football related stuff.
LOL, I said as much above.
For sure wasn’t working out with wideouts, but big difference btwn hitting the gym for health and getting ready for a football season. Not like he didn’t put himself on the FA market though before signing the broadcast contract. Whatever it is he should be in game shape by the opener.
QBs don’t have to be in tip top shape, there’s a reason they play until 40.
I just watched all of Cutler’s 180 career TD passes, and he really has a nice fluid motion, and much stronger arm than RT, everything he does looks natural, RT looks a little goofy in comparison (watched his highlights too, and never noticed his goofy movements). Nothing seems to bother him, he just gets back there an wings it, and can elude the rush nicely.
I don’t really care who starts initially, well I would like Cutler, but…, I just want to win. I hope Gase can work with him and keep it in his head he doesn’t have to do it all on his own, just play within himself.
208 TD passes. Cutler has a stronger arm than just about every QB in the league. He has a Favre like arm.
“I just watched all of Cutler’s 180 career TD passes” — you got a link for those? Would be cool to watch.
There was an article out this weekend that mentioned the horrible week we had with injuries, and it mentioned how last year every time something happened the team bounced back 1-4 start, RT getting hurt… then went on to say he expected us to bounce back again, well the FO is starting the bounce back today.
Cutler is the starter. They are not paying him 10 million to be a backup
That’s the idea, but in no way is Gase going to leave him out there or even start the season as the starter, if he isn’t getting the job done. That $3M in incentives seems to be a little insurance to suggest the team wants an out, if Cutler struggles.
What about Houston last year Ken?
Like I said to Brian I’m not sure the money means that. We were in a tough spot. We didn’t want to go into the season with just Moore and no viable backup. It was a unique situation. However I do think he’ll be given a shot to start. Not sure he’ll be up to speed by the opener though.
If they spend 10 million on a backup QB Gase and Tannenbaum have to have their heads examined. The money means he is no. 1 on the depth chart until proven otherwise
We’ll see.
He played 5 games last year and has been studying to be a broadcaster, I doubt he’s in football shape
As a type 1 diabetic being out of shape can be very deadly. He may have signed down here for access to the extensive research of diabeties in the hospital district. What I would be consired foe him is the humidity whicg can mess with diabetics and AIC level.Beta cells react differently also in humid conditions.
I hope this doesn’t turn out like the Culpepper/Brees debacle
How does signing Cutler compare in anyway to that?
I think it’s just a bump in an otherwise solid career
But I would definately consider drafting a qb early in 18
not so much here…..but my local dolphins fan friends have been bitching and cussing TANNY about something I find ridiculous…….”why didn’t he have the surgery last year?”…..so of course I reply……”yeah, go in there and tear it the rest of the way, and then sew it up?”….serious folks, you really don’t believe the IF he NEEDED surgery then, he wouldn’t have had it, do you?
he may have been fed some BS with stem cell rejuvenation and the time he spends down in the hospital distruict makes lots of people to believe he was sold a bag of BS over true and tried procedures. I wonder if he has a possible lawsuit for medical advice that turned out bad. ——————————-
Fins now have to make decision in April if they draft a rookie QB in draft without knowing for sure if Tanny is healed or not.
He doesn’t have a bad knee injury as in career threatening.
Two of the best orthopedic surgeons in the world suggested he go the route he did. But media and fans always no better as ushe. Now that this happened, they’re all fist pumping each other celebrating they were right. Whateves! LOL
I think this was probably the best move they could have made given the situation. There weren’t many good options out there. It gives us, if nothing else, 2 veteran QBs who should be able to run the full offense competently and get some points.
I agree
Agreed. It’s not easy to find quality QBs in August. We might have gotten lucky.

Ajayi runs for 2000 yards!
And we are going to have a top 5 defense!!!
Parker and stills will catch a lot of bombs
Landry will kill people
Cutler will pout a lot but we will survive
Top
The thing that people who are killing Ryan for NOT having the surgery last year don’t seem to grasp, is he would have been out till most likely November anyway, if not December or later, so it really didn’t make that much of a difference. If he has the surgery now, he’ll most likely be ready to start next season.
I get that bro….my disbelief is people thinking to have surgery even if NOT needed at the time.
I think it’s Tanny’s body and it’s his business
You think it’s his body or is there another option? LOL
May be two people in the Tanny family worried about competition.

mmm……daddy like. 🙂
For the record I don’t really care who starts at QB. Whomever the team decides is the best option Moore or Cutler we roll with it.
that’s because you’re a team first guy…..you must trust GASE……you suck, lol
I’m silly like that. 🙂
There are going to be 51 other players that have a big say in the kind of season we have.
Any word on where Ajayi is at?
In Miami
Good or bad, there will be no Tannehill discussions this season other than whether or not we cut him or not. LOL
Son, if you’re lurking out and about…let me know if you’re able to have a few drinks at house of Blues Thursday sometime around 7:30 or a little after

We should have took Brees, Instead we took Culpepper.
Yeah and how does that relate to this situation?
Stanger, just in case you thought we were going to the SB, after watching the Cutler TD video, this one will bring you down to earth.
Lots of WTF moments.
In case anyone missed the one above
A lot of roll-outs and bootlegs. By the way he has a much better arm than Kaepernick too. 😉

ru mistaken tanny with someone else? Who were these 2 top orthopedic surgeons in the world?
Andrews and Uribe.
and Uribe works for who?
Lol JS
Former Dolphins wide receiver O.J. McDuffie on Wednesday won an $11.5 judgment from a malpractice lawsuit against former Dolphins team doctor John Uribe.
A Miami-Dade Circuit jury returned the verdict after a two-and-one-half-week trial.
McDuffie accused Uribe of malpractice in the treatment of a left big toe injury he suffered in 1999. McDuffie’s lawyers said an MRI showed severe ligament damage, but Dr. Uribe told McDuffie he would recover without ever informing McDuffie of the ruptured ligament. His injury worsened as he continued to play with it. He has had two surgeries on the toe since 1999, and was released by the Dolphins on Feb. 28, 2002, after nine years. McDuffie officially retired in August of 2002.
Wait what, one of the top Ortho surgeons was rararawrong?
Well the silence is killing me. Uribe works for who the dolphins or the patient?
I’m okay with Cutler. He’s Moore with more arm. I agree with Ken about starter status….$10 M presumes he starts.
No, it represents the amount of money it took to get him out of retirement. I really don’t think our FO gives a rats ass who starts, but you can’t go into the season with just Moore.

Hell yes!!!!!!
I wonder if the pick 6 Moore threw at his first practice as the Number 1 QB galvanized the decision making to sign Cutler. Probably not, but certainly it makes me feel that we did need another starter quality QB.
We have to beat Brees and about a half dozen other high-scoring QBs this year. We can’t afford to be running in safe mode to protect a back-up QB with either a limited skill set or limited arm strength. We will need to out-score several teams or we will lose.
Still, i do feel bad for Matt Moore. He has been a loyal and ever-ready back-up.
Well Moore is signed to be the backup and he knows that. I think he’ll be a place holder until Cutler is ready unless he has the hot hand. If we start the season with Moore and it goes well then just ride it.
I just hope Cutler gets fired up and isn’t a whiney little bitch. When’s the last time he’s been in a situation to actually win? After seeing it almost end he may look at this opportunity as his last best chance.
wow that is certainly a great way to look at it. This could be like one of those transcendent moments because a guy has superhuman motivation. Cutler has always had superior talent. This might be a story-book finish for him.
Shows what the coaches think about Doughty.
Drafting QB early next year. Lol
A quarterback in the twilight of his career, only getting offers to play backup.
Has playoff experience.
Comes to Miami after being recruited by a coach with whom he had a lot of success in the past.
That coach’s last stop, by the way, was the team for which that quarterback most recently played.
This quarterback has to start for the Dolphins because their team leader and starter on the depth chart has sustained a leg injury.
This veteran newcomer to the team ends up winning a lot of games for the team before struggling in the AFC Championship game.
His struggles lead the team to go back to their original starter, who by this time feels comfortable playing, despite his injury earlier in the season.
The Miami Dolphins win that game and then the Super Bowl in convincing fashion with their original quarterback playing as if he’d never been gone.
The Dolphins’ star safety wins the MVP.
Now…
…was I talking about Jay Cutler or Earl Morrall?
PS: This was just sent to me by one of my sons.
That’s ’72
…but let’s hope you’re talking about both!
Dbolt, I may not make it the way things are working out. Gonna try.
Obviously Cutler wasn’t my first choice ($$$, and we only had $15.7M to either extend Landry early or find FAs to replace Ted Larsen and Mike Pouncey when he goes down again), but we got a QB who Gase trusts, already knows Gase’s system, and as Tim stated… has one of the strongest arms in the NFL who can make all the throws. SOLID signing, IMO.
As Ken wisely observed, it’s only a 1 year deal for Cutler. Thus, we can (and will) re-sign Landry next year, not this year. But in the meantime, we’ve got just over $5M to work with right now and we’d better hope nobody else of significance goes down.
Yes… this means that Tannehill is opting to go under the knife, and that’s a good thing for his future. Get it out of the way now: ensure that the knee won’t become a career-ending issue and he should be good to go to begin the 2018 season. He got good medical advice and stem-cell treatment last year, it just didn’t hold up. No harm, no foul, it happens.
Count me among y’all who wanted Cutler in the 2006 Draft out of Vandy, but leave it to Shanadouche to once again claim one of my guys (we all knew Cutler wasn’t going to fall to us, though). My best friend Jimmy (RIP) was ALL about Cutler, and he had some of the best scouting eyes I’ve ever been around. Shanadouche has a history of killing the development of QBs in Denver (and Washington) and Cutler fared no better in Chi-Town until Gase came.
Cutler didn’t have much in terms of weapons to work with in both Denver and Chicago (pretty much only Brandon Marshall), but here in Miami we’re pretty much LOADED.
All-in-all, I’m good with the signing of Cutler. I really didn’t think he’d come out of the booth, but we showed him the $$$ and support from Ross on down. My only demand? Make Cutler EARN the starting job, regardless of the $$$. If Moore outperforms him, you play the better player regardless of $$$.
Now then… let’s get this O-Line figured out with Ted Larsen’s torn biceps and Mike Pouncey just waiting to go down again (hope NOT!).
Welcome to Miami and best of luck, Jay Cutler!
GO PHINS!!!
HELL YEAH!!!
What if it’s the Jay and Jay show with yardage to rival the greatest show on turf?
There are parallels here.
Jay all day
Jeff Darlington says Cutler is in excellent shape, and it won’t take long to get in game shape, but he won’t play preseason game 1. He’ll arrive in Miami tomorrow morning, but not in time for practice.
As a finely tuned professional athlete for over a decade, I have no reason to think that Cutler is out of shape. He only needs to knock a little bit of rust off and he’ll be just fine.
Jay Ajayi and Jay Cutler lead the Dolphins deep in the playoffs by rushing for 1250 and throwing for 4200.
RT17 will almost certainly either restructure or get released next year. Can’t see paying those huge $$$ after this.
That’s a bridge only to be crossed next year… but you are most likely correct.
Who’s REALLY happy with Cutler’s signing? DeVante and his agent.
Who’s REALLY NOT happy that Tannehill is out? Jarvis and his agent.
Tannehill to Landry is now one of the most prolific combos in NFL history over a 3-year period. Cutler — on the other hand — likes the deep ball to bigger WRs like Brandon Marshall.
OBJ may be quietly smiling somewhere what with Tannehill’s prognosis (OBJ and Landry are tied for the most receptions EVER in their first 3 seasons). Conversely, DeVante’s agent may be quietly smiling somewhere knowing that Cutler will target his client quite regularly.
But FIRST… let’s see who wins the starting job between Moore and Cutler.

Guess it all depends on what happens. Lol
EXACTLY! 🙂
M, This may benefit Parker the most and that’s a good thing but what I think we’ll find is that Landry sets up a real nice target for the QB and a lot of what we’ll run will be for Landry. I’m not gonna sit here for a minute and think that Jarvis is great because of Tannehill, Jarvis will thrive with any QB I think.
I think it’ll certainly benefit DeVante the most, for sure: AGREED. It’s my hope that Jarvis will thrive as well, so long as Cutler (if named the starter at any point) isn’t afraid to check-down to him. I’d also think that there’ll be designed plays for Jarvis to utilize his great talent.
This is in the back of my head, though: ‘make sure Jarvis doesn’t set the world on fire in ’17 so that we can sign him to an honest contract in ’18’. I’ve NO idea how it’s going to pan out, but it’ll be something to watch throughout the season: will Jarvis see the same amount of targets from Moore/Cutler in a contract year?
He’s a winner, give him a HUGE deal and let’s go win. Certain guys are worth it in my opinion.
Just like Suh, I’d break the bank for Landry tuh.
I’m ABSOLUTELY with ya on Jarvis, my man.
We in the Cousins sweepstakes next year?
At the moment, I’d say HELL NO. I LIKE Kirk Cousins, but I doubt we’re ditching Tannehill so quickly. Plus, either of Matt Moore or Jay Cutler could ROCK for us this year.
Now if we $#!t the bed this year altogether at the QB position, Cousins is certainly a possibility. But that would probably include a Tannehill restructure and massive cuts going into the 2018 season. We’ve got something like only $5M of cap space right now as it stands with contracts for TWENTY-EIGHTEEN (not this year, 2017!). Cutting Byron Maxwell after this year would free-up $10M with $0 dead cap… but what if he balls this year?
Aye… we’ve got to play 2017 before we can even consider ANYTHING in ’18. But again, I DO like MSU’s Kirk Cousins as you do.
Didn’t know we were so tight next year. Best hope is Tannehill makes it back just fine or Cutler has 2 years left in the tank.
So 2015 under Gase was Cutlers best year… was that also a big year for Bennett at TE ??
Cutler is going to look for his TE more than Tannehill would if that’s what you’re asking.
Thomas was brought in for a reason……
Kind of along that line. I know Bennett had a couple good years in Chicago was wondering if one was under Gase
And yes if Bennett had a good year under Gase with Cutler, then it bodes well for Thomas with C&G
Go Phins!!!

Yeah, Bro… it’s a sticky cap situation right now when looking at our 2018. But it’s worth me saying it yet again… I REALLY like Kirk Cousins as you do. I just don’t see how we can fit him in next year with Suh and Tannehill’s contracts… we’d be paying 3 players “QB money”.
Cousins is going to fetch ELITE QB money in ’18 (provided he rocks again this year, no doubt), probably to the tune of $25M/per.
How to save future $$$ in the event Moore/Cutler don’t pan out this year? Early QB in the ’18 Draft to push/replace Tannehill. I DON’T want to go there right now (the season must be played first!), but I’d keep an eye on NCAA QBs this year.
Dammit I hope we don’t need to worry about a QB anytime soon… but so much is up in the air right now, and I don’t believe that Brandon Doughty is any kind of answer.
Hear ya man, I doubt we go QB shopping anyway. No biggie, there are plenty of options and this season is at hand. Let’s roll.
I honestly can’t see Cousins going anywhere but SF next season. The match and timing are just too perfect.
Season sweep Mike, first time ever.
I read that Cutler is guaranteed $5 million this season. Him playing backup at that price is not out of the question, but that would be a hefty sum to pay for a backup QB. I believe he was brought in to start, even if it is an “open competition”.
$5M bonus, $5M salary, with incentives up to $13M, so if hes on the team day 1 of the season I believe the guarantee is $10 M.
Well, I must confess that my Outlook on the season has taken a major hit. And my enthusiasm as a fan has dropped to nearly nothing.
I am not pleased to have that mopey pouting little bitch on the sidelines forget about under Center.
WELL I SURE WAS WRONG on the Cutler situation. But, again, I’ll defer to Gase who, in my opinion, has earned the benefit of the doubt on situations like this. It certainly puts even more pressure on the O-Line because Cutler’s not as fast or nimble as Tannehill. But his EXERIENCE and knowledge of Gase’s offense could be the equalizer. WE’re all hoping this works out well and our Dolphins make a run to the playoffs. I wonder WHO will be favored in the opening game vs. Tampa Bay?? Local Bucs’ fans believe these events should make THEM the favorites. We’ll see.

MIKE E., nice work on this article. Looking forward to an article on “Miami’s Updated Quarterback Situation!”
But Cutler has the Marino step up and better pocket pressence.
I got a text from my older sister the Broncos fan. It only said “Ha Ha”
I replied. Good luck with Paxton Lynch, oh, I mean Trevor Siemian….who is your starting QB again?
C’mon Rock…..Cutler can’t help it if he has “resting bitch face!” It’s a real thing!
Lol…exactly!
They were talking about this, this morning, saying Cutler is shy and not a natural leader, so he comes across as standoffish. In sports they try to make too much out of being a leader, but a QB must posses leadership.
Cutler is Moore with a bigger arm (and RBF). And if you had to play with Stabby as your primary WR for years you would pout too.
I think Stabby helped Cutler
probably saved Cutler’s life with him convincing Cutler to seek help before he was diagnosed being a type 1 diabetic. He was deadly sick with blood sugar levels of 600-700
if Cutler comes in and Miami has a great season with him, with only 4.6m in dead money next year, where does that leave Tannehill?
I smell a QB controversy in the making
So, will Cutler have to pay Doughty for his #6 jersey?
I don’t know that Stabby ever helped any QB. Too much drama, too many dropped balls.
I know you’re just trying to be funny, but watch the video and you’ll see what Stabby did for Jay.
In Denver Marshall definately helped cutler
But in cutler’s good year in Chicago, he didn’t have him
here are some interesting things about the first depth chart released by the dolphins for 2017.
Rookie Raekwon McMillan is a starter in Miami’s base defense
• Damien Williams is Miami’s second-team running back and Kenyan Drake is the third-teamer.
• Davon Godchaux is second-team defensive tackle, behind Jordan Phillips, even though Godchaux has been starting ahead of Phillips in practice.
Just saw a video on twitter of Cutler arriving in Miami. I thought the police escort a bit much…..
Did he kick a can at the airport
That is basically the visual I have of cutler arriving anywhere
He arrives and kicks a can
LOL, with the poutty little bitch face? no, no he didn’t. (at least not in the video!)
What should be interesting is the medical team that follows his every move in the hot humid weather. High Humidity isn’t good for type 1 diabetics.
Good thing he has type2
I bet Suh gave Cutler a big hug
Hey Piggy what neighborhood did you say you were from. Was it Rockledge community. Big investigation into Arch Bishosop McCarthy baseball team. There is four players that play for their HS team that live on same block that all moved from diffent parts of the city..They could lose all the state championships along with 2-3 national championships. Alex Fernandez’s name has been mentioned.
Anyone see Noah Syndergaard in Game of Thrones last night? I didn’t see him. Just found out he had a cameo appearance in last night’s episode.
looks like he is trying to throw a object—-good form.
Do you think he was burned alive by the dragon
that was the best episode in some time on GOT
season 7 wasn’t looking so good until last night
The most positive thing about the Cutler signing is the relationship between Gase and Cutler! Cutler is clearly a guy who needs his head in the right place to perform well. The trust that exists between Cutler and Gase at least gives me hope that we get the “good” Cutler once he’s in shape.
JS, I’m the one from Rockledge, (Rockledge, FL) Rockledge Fin fan was too long a name for one of the SS sites so it was shortened to Rockphin to fit.
No , its not where you are from—its a local community in S.Florida in cooper city. I once worked at a site in rocklidge by where you live—pluckenbaum road seems to register with me. Place was invested with snakes. Our work trailer was on site for work and someone opened the door and a snake jumped inside. Scared the hell out of me. One of the contractoers got his shotgun out of his truck and blew him to pieces. Never in my life have I have seen so many snakes in a week.
I live in Boynton Beach now, but no need to change my name right? LOL
Do you know that area I’m talking about. The dirt road leading to the empty field was named pluckenbaum road. We once ran over a big snake 7-8 ft and backed up on it and drive forward over it and then when we thought he would be dead the thing just crossed the dirt road into the canal. Never saw anything like that place.

RIP Don Baylor and Darren Daulton
I had to google them because I never heard of them. Baseball, now I understand why I never heard of them.
I hadd to look up Dalton who I thought played a season for Marlins. I was correct. I remember when they got him it changed the feeling around the team and he helped propel the team to its first world series. He was like a mr. Hustle guy and played 1st. He had a lot of timely hits also.
I got Don Baylor’s autograph when I was a young pup. SAD 😦
Always liked Daulton. One of those guys on another team that you wished was on yours and not just cause he played well.
JS,
Rock Creek in Cooper City was my old neighborhood when I was a kid
Archbishop McCarthy didn’t exists when I was a kid. That was all cowfields on that side of Flamingo. It’s probably less than miles from my old home. So yeah its close. But that neighborhood has really changed since I was a kid. Alex Fernandez has a big sports store in that Publix Plaza.
yeah, that area has changed a lot in the 25 yrs I have been here. The investigation is saying the school bought these kids homes to play for their HS Baseball team. A.Fernandez’s name is being tossed around as if he had something to do with it all.I think Fernandez has the shop in the small warehouses facing flamingo next to the publix shopping centr. The center were you think hernandezs sports shop has “steve’s Pizza” very close with this family.
do you remember a farm store on stiring road about hiatus. I was filling up 1 night and guy with gun walked up to me and took my car and wallet.Ran back inside to tell night clerk to call police and the sucker told me to hold on, he was talking to someone on phone. had to call all the CC companies and when I reviewed all the charges it turned out the guy filled up at a gas station across from the main police station on broward blvd.
Hmmmmmm, this is the first I’ve heard of it. Landry is under investigation for Battery?
Armando Salguero ✔ @ArmandoSalguero
Adam Gase says Dolphins are aware of report that Jarvis Landry is under investigation for battery.
Shit !!
Battery as in supplying the Dolphins offense with some juice?
this is the first I’ve heard of it anywhere. I wonder who he is accused of battering?
Last week was a bad week for the Dolphins. This week is starting off badly, too.
Andy Slater of WINZ reports that receiver Jarvis Landry is under investigation for battery. Citing multiple unnamed sources, Slater reports that the incident occurred earlier this year at Landry’s apartment in Ft. Lauderdale, and that it involves his girlfriend.
The Broward County State Attorney’s Office is expected to eventually make a decision on possible charges. Per Slater, Landry’s girlfriend is not cooperating.
For Landry, a separate problem has now arisen. Even if he’s not charged, the NFL will investigate the situation, and it will potentially discipline him under the personal conduct policy. If the situation isn’t resolved this season, it surely will impact his market in free agency next March.
Moments ago, coach Adam Gase told reporters that the team is aware of the situation, and that it has taken all proper steps (including, presumably, notifying the league office). Gase otherwise had no comment.
Sorta owe you a beer, but glad Landry chose Ft Lauderdale over the South Beach accessible options.
I really don’t think Cutler is gonna be an upgrade over moore. I thought we could get to 8 wins with moore. I doubt we get to that with cutler. When was the last time cutler won 8 games in one season. 2010?
A radio guy broke it about Landry. Incident was with a woman who has a paternity suit in place against him…..and that is new news as well.
http://slaterscoops.com/news/2017/8/7/exclusive-details-jarvis-landry-under-investigation-for-battery
I don’t think there are charges
and his GF is NOT cooperating
So that usually means there won’t be charges in most cases
Not charges yet (and agree if she does not cooperate probably none possible)…but didn’t close either. Guessing this is leverage being kept in place by her lawyers though. And they might want him to get a re-sign in place right quick as well.
I remember that farm stores JS
I used to buy beer there all the time before I was 21
Welp, I guess we now know why there’s been a holdup in re-signing Jarvis. Domestic violence/battery of a woman is a VERY, VERY serious charge in the NFL with career-threatening implications. Seems our FO has known about this for some time.
This is HORRIBLE news. 😡
I think Ray Rice was unique situation
really what the NFL needs on this issue is consistency but they do take it seriously…no question
Agree that Ray Rice was a unique situation, complete with the disgusting video evidence. Hopefully this gets resolved quickly, fairly, and everybody is alright… especially the woman.

New: Lots of notable stuff from Dolphins’ first depth chart; Calvin Johnson helping Dolphins receivers:
http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/barry-jackson/article165831102.html
who was our receiver coach last yr that showed the younger plars 1 practice how to play the position when he suited up for a practice
Shawn Jefferson….. still WR coach
B funny if Calvin Johnson suits up and Jefferson doesn’t this TC. Propably hear about that the whole season.
“Gase said Cutler will share snaps with Matt Moore, the Dolphins’ veteran backup quarterback [in practice]. Moore will start in the Dolphins’ preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night. Cutler will not play in that game.”
He also noted that Cutler “didn’t come out of retirement to stand on the sidelines.”
probably going to take the team of medical diabetes professionals a while for them to get the insulin and dosages correct. S.Florida is a very humid environment.
Now this with Landry. SMH
I just keeps on getting better and better for our ’17 season. UGH!!!
😡
*It
Get ready for some more details…..have to believe there is a public record police report on what happened at least. Same time — might explain why he was not re-signed, but wanted it done badly before the season started. Incident is new…..paternity suit was not.
Is he gonna get a suspension for this?
According to this article on ESPN it seems like moore, tanny and cutler are about the same and it shouldn’t effect the win total. According to them either way the phins will win about 7 or 8 games this year.
http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/20249740/jay-cutler-change-miami-dolphins-2017-nfl-season-outlook
I still think we can do better than that.
I thought we could for sure with tanny. Not sure now.
For example I would have thought tampa at home was a win for sure with tanny. Now It think that’s a loss. There are few games I’m not sure about now. I guess we’ll see.
Yeah — I see it as mostly a push, but just for next season at QB. What we lost is cap money and the chance for Tanny to progress towards a true franchise QB……both of those go more too the future.
Yea the 10 million is big IMO for next year. I just hope tanny comes back strong next year.
“It wasn’t very Hollywood. t was just pretty straightforward. I talked to Coach Gase, We had a nice conversation and he told me what was going on, and that was it… It was very simple. Very straightforward and I get it. I understand.”
— Moore on Cutler coming in.
2017 for our Phins, SO far…
-Ryan Tannehill lost for the season
-Ted Larsen lost for half the season (I/R, designated to return)
-Jarvis Landry potentially facing DV/battery charges
-Jay Ajayi got a concussion
-Bobby McCain went down in practice
-Koa Misi lands on I/R
-Lamin Barrow lands on I/R
-We’re down to roughly $5M under the salary cap after signing Cutler
-Jakeem Grant continues to have fumbling issues
And we haven’t even played a preseason game yet 🙂
Not sure if we wanted to do the roster and record challenge this year. I created it anyway. If we decide we don’t want to do it let me know. Here is the link

…Incident is new…..paternity suit was not.
——–
The incident isn’t new, it occurred in the spring. Jarvis reported it to team management immediately, and the team then reported it to the NFL immediately. The incident has been known for some time (but not to the public) and likely explains why we haven’t re-signed Jarvis… too much is still up in the air regarding a potential NFL suspension, public backlash, and legal punishment.
Sorry my bad…..should have said “news of the incident is new” and added to us. Didn’t know the incident was known about by the team, and thanks for that (only get like 5 articles per month on the local papers). But good for Landry for reporting it.
But like I said…..the police report will come out now. And could be wrong — but the way it came out thinking it is was by the lawyers in the paternity suit to put pressure on.
All good, man. 🙂
I just wanted to provide some context as to why we likely haven’t re-signed Jarvis. You’re 100% correct about the police report and the pressure by the lawyers. This is going to get interesting.
So, which college QB’s are going to be available in the 12-16 range next draft?
Didn’t know the incident was known about by the team, and thanks for that (only get like 5 articles per month on the local papers). But good for Landry for reporting it.
Stanger, clear your cookies before you visit the PBP, SS or MH. I clear mine every other day now and I never get kicked out of their sites anymore.
Thanks for the advice and did pop into the latest from the Herald to find this. Goes back to most likely reason is the lawyers let this out to pressure Landry.
“The incident under investigation was reported to police April 1. Listed under “weapons/tools” on the incident report are “hands, fist, feet, teeth,” but report says the victim suffered no injury. There’s no signature from anyone filing a complaint and the case status is put as “inactive.”

Let’s not forget that Cutler had season-ending throwing shoulder surgery in Dec 2016
True. He could fail the physical yet…..
Nevermind. I think it’s official now. Lol
He was cleared in March.

Bro, when I don’t like something or someone, I’m not shy and I master the language well enough to make it plain.
So, Armondo, are you not shy ONLY when you don’t like something or someone. I’m glad you master the language well enough to make it plain….
The analytic predictions being similar with Tanny, Moore, and Cutler isn’t too surprising. The big difference is Tannehill’s ceiling was a lot higher coming into his second year under Gase. That was my biggest reason for optimism about this season was a possible jump in QB play. I don’t see that happening with either Moore or Cutler.
Cutler doesn’t seem like a guy that’s easy to root for, not does he seem like a guy the team will rally behind. I’d have preferred they went with Moore and brought in Kaepernick or a young QB with potential to develop. Unless things go well, I could see the team quitting on Cutler and pushing Gase to go with Moore. Could be an ugly season.
I think the view about Cutler being this horrible person is very exaggerated. I just watched his presser and he’s nothing like what people say about him. Go check it out for yourself. If the teams quits on him that’s on them.

A statement from #Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry’s girlfriend, Estrella Cerqueira (via publicist @DeniseWhite_EAG)
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DGpYsKvVYAAVkCr.jpg:large
There you have it.
Leave it to attorneys to bring out the worst in EVERYBODY. SMMFH
AND the willful media. SMMFH
M13
I suspect an attorney drafted that response. Attorneys have nothing to do with a police investigation of battery or how it was reported
I’ll respectfully defer to you on this matter, Pig. All I know is that it smells like CRAP from every angle right now, Bro… to the tune of a hatchet job on Jarvis.
It was just a media report of a battery investigation
She admits the police were called in her statement – so we know that isn’t bs
It has nothing to do with the Dolphins contract situation as far as we know
Probably someone in the media just found out there was a DV call and it spread over social media and she had to release a statement clear Landry of any wrongdoing to put any rumors to bed
Don’t read too much into it
If it happened in March, I would think the investigation concluded by now. The police don’t typically release written statements that say “no crime was” was committed
Seems like a non story to me.
These two guys are more likely to hurt themselves than anyone else
Bad news for the Jets.
BREAKING: New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa out for season with neck injury.
Season ending injuries suck…even when they happen to rivals …
Agreed. I wish him well. I don’t like seeing anyone get hurt.
He plays a TE role as well as WR.
Saw that, he tore us up last year as a #3.
I will go a step farther than calling it a no story Tim
If he incident happened in March
I don’t suspect there were any new developments in August
More likely whomever “broke” the story chose not to until people started paying attention to football again
But IMO the story has no teeth
If his wife/partner/gf releases a statement to explain that nothing more than a verbal altercation happened months ago – I’m not sure it goes anywhere
It’s just the modern world we live in today and how information spreads and of course Dolphins fans worried about the likelihood of an apocalyptical season, which is the fan base we’ve become after decades of disappointment 😳
Agree that sounds like criminal charges are not in play and neither is an NFL suspension.
But real Q for me is what you put out — why it came out now. Wouldn’t even be talking about her lawyers except that there is an ongoing case in family court that has gotten emotions stirred.
And since they are happily raising the kid together according to her……only issue there could be money. Never worked divorce stuff….but sure did have more than a few attorneys going to our local papers for leverage in nuisance suits. Not like was an agent for an NFL player…..but for sure the guys who ran my county worried about bad press when it came to their next contract come election day.
Well, I tend to think most established media outlets have some one with the local police departments to give them information like this on public figures in their community
My suggestion is that whomever “broke” the story was following it for months and sat on it until August when the football audience grows bc it wasn’t really going anywhere
I don’t think it makes sense as leverage for the team, player, or his wife given her statement
What you put out made perfect sense on how it might have went down that way So does mine though……would be different if if they were doing something other than litigating what seems to be child custody stuff. Never married and not living together and her leverage is to make it all go away.
For sure didn’t come from Jarvis or the team though, even if might be coming out cause of from some court clerk talking at a bar one night.
This makes it seem like Cutler for sure wasn’t thinking back to the NFL — “Cutler said his two sons and pickup basketball games at his alma mater, Vanderbilt, helped him stay in shape.”
No he was going to work for Fox.
After he didn’t get the offer he wanted in FA. Sounds like he wasn’t waiting for a spot likes ours to pop up…..and to give him a break on the back in football shape curve.
I guess it paid off
now he gets to pout in aqua
It’s funny, Cutler is known for being pouty yet both Manning’s were/are like that. But they’ve had great success so it’s not looked at the same way.
Based on Gase’s comments that Jay didn’t come out of retirement to sit on the bench, he will be the starter as some of you said.
Nobody is kidding anybody he came out of retirement for 10 to 13 million dollars depending on incentives
The $3M in incentives is probably based on how many games he starts.
I heard it was for hitting certain stat levels and the playoffs.
Really happy to hear the Landry situation isn’t a situation after all. That’s a huge relief. We have enough obstacles to go through already
2017 for our Phins, SO far… With huge respect for MF13
-Ryan Tannehill lost for the season, but HC Gase has a strong connection with a 12 yr vet who has the 9th most TDs and 10th most yds passing in history, so we should be fine
-Ted Larsen lost for half the season (I/R, designated to return) but we have the strongest man at the 2017 combine and 3 holdover starters from last yr, so we should be fine
-Jarvis Landry potentially facing DV/battery chargesuntil it is revealed that there was no arrest, no injuries, no victim, and no call to police by any of the principals but instead some nosy unrelated 3rd party heard loud shouting and called the cops, SMH
-Jay Ajayi got a concussion Csonka did too, so what? We still went undefeated.
-Bobby McCain went down in practiceand got back up; it’s football
-Koa Misi lands on I/Rwhich is his official place of residence these last 6 yrs as he transitions to coaching
-Lamin Barrow lands on I/RWho?
-We’re down to roughly $5M under the salary cap after signing Cutlerseems like plenty enough to pick up a UDFA or someone else’s castoff if needed, although most of our positions have plenty of depth.
-Jakeem Grant continues to have fumbling issuesCut him then … he’s only 5’7 and we have 14 WRs and Drake and Landry can return kicks as well
Just be glad we are not the Ravens or Jests!
oops that’s 9th among active NFL QBs, not in history…my bad
I love how Gase calls out the media BS.
