At last! We’ve waited through the long off season. We’ve hung in there with the uncertainty of Week 1 only to see the game cancelled/postponed to a later date in the season. We’re going to have to wait til the late game this afternoon. WTF NFL? How much more can you expect one fan base to tolerate?
It’s going to be an interesting season to watch. No way around it, barring injury, Jay Cutler is going to make it interesting. I can’t say I was ever a Cutler fan, I have very high standards for QBs as everyone is well aware. But Cutler is the Dolphin’s QB now, so for me, right now, he is my QB! I’ve read more about him in the last few weeks and it seems he has gotten a bad rap over the years. It’s a new team and a new start for him. Take my advice Jay, don’t look back, you’re not going that way.

Ajayi was the difference in this game. He won it for us.
We were not the offensive juggernaut some of us expected but our defense didn’t completely blow like some of us expected
I said in my game preview we weren’t going to be slinging the ball all over the field, and we were going to lean on Ajayi. That’s pretty much how it went. It’s early though, we could evolve, and I think we will

Questionable play on the last offensive series and a Philbin like timeout. All in all it’s a win on the west coast in conference. So I am not going to bitch too much

Woohoo! Gase tried to give the game away with some god-awful playcalling at times, and a couple of bad decisions, but we hung in and did just enough on both sides of the ball to eke out the win. After everything that has happened to this team leading up to this game, we’ll take it!
1st place Miami Dolphins.
The offense is a work in progress, but it’s safe to say Ajayi is not a one hit wonder but a bonafide stud, 1st back to get 100 against the Chargers in 17 games.
Cutler didn’t make any bone-headed plays, and with better playcalling we should be able to put up some points.
The offensive line looked pretty damn good against a pair of stud ends in Ingram and Bosa.
The defensive line got ZERO pressure all game long, and it’s a testament to the rest of the D that we held the Chargers to 17.
The run defense looks worlds better.

I had no problem kicking the FG our last drive, but I hated the playcalling that led to the FG. We were far too in love with the short passes today. I get that part of that was to neutralize their ends, but I thought our line was holding up just fine when Cutler was dropping back.

His FG was money, his kickoffs were high and forced returns. Early returns show a CLEAR upgrade over Franks.

I agree the play calling throughout the game bothered me.
It was our first game…on a long road trip. A win is always good, but it doesn’t always mean you played good football. I think the offense played OK. I didn’t expect much this first game, hell, I would guess we’ll sputter for a few. I agree that I wish they’d been able to sustain that final drive for another minute, but they did do enough to take the lead. No big, stupid throws or plays by Cutler late either…which I worried about. The D did stop them, but they gave up a lot of yards to get it done. Bad miss by that kid on a pretty makeable kick for NFL guys.

The defense got gashed from what I saw. We were giving up big, chunk yardage in the air. I did miss about a third of the game. Hull looked a half step slow. Phillips got tired quick. Wake was pretty invisible. Too many catches. Our CBs were not good. Who’s our other safety opposite Jones? I never heard his name or saw him on a play.

Overall…take a win on the road and be happy with that…and then get back to practice, improve and play bettter next week.

WELL, Game 1 of The Jay and Jay show is over. And what a game it was!!! Jay Ajayi was the first running back this week to top 100 yards, and Jay Cutler MADE PLAYS when he had to.
HOW BIG was the decision to let Franks go and replace him with Parkey??? – – As soon as the announcer said “Parkey is 5 for 5 on field goal attempts of 50 yards or more in his career,” I KNEW he was going to make it!!! That 54 yard kick would have been good from 64!!
AGREE with Manitoba. The Gase comments on Timmons sound ominous. Who is the best available LB out there we could bring in??
