Week 6 – Game 5 – Dolphins @ Falcons

Atlanta-Falcons-vs.-Miami-Dolphins-850x477

The Miami Dolphins, fresh off a great defensive performance against the Tennessee Titans at home at Hard Rock Stadium, now have to travel to play one  of the NFL’s best offensive teams, a team fresh off a BYE week.  The Falcons have scored 104 points so far this season in 4 games, which is exactly 63 points more than the Dolphins have scored.  Doing some quick math in my head, the Falcons are averaging 26 points per game, while the Dolphins are averaging just better than 10 points per game.  See a problem?

Jay Cutler, Matt Moore

HC Adam Gase insists he is not changing from current starter Jay Cutler to backup QB Matt Moore.  Some people are really upset about this, while some proclaim Cutlers arm is damaged, or his brain is shell shocked, and he can’t stand in the pocket because he’s afraid to take a hit, and despite all that, Gase stands behind Cutler as his starter.  I know we’re so used to failure here in MIA, that even Gase the Great is now under tremendous scrutiny!  What happened to “Trust in Gase’?  Like Lucilla said so well, “The mob is fickle brother”.  How true!  Now all of a sudden we all know better than Gase, the guy who is with this team nearly 24/7, the one who is getting paid the big bucks to guide this team back to the playoffs, the one whose job security is on the line?  Maybe we should step back and let Gase handle the situation.  Do we really think Gase is clueless all of a sudden?  I truly doubt he is.

This Sunday’s game provides quite a challenge, the rested Falcons have a multidimensional offense, with 2 talented RB’s who can both run and catch extremely well, Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman.  Freeman has 285 yards rushing, while his backfield mate Tevin Coleman has just 181 yards rushing.  They flip flop though on receiving yards, with Coleman putting up 153 yards receiving on 13 receptions, and Freeman with only 70 on 9 receptions.  Both of these backs have around 350 yards of total offense, so no team gets a break with either of them on the field.  That’s not all the Falcons offer on offense, far from it.  The Falcons have one of the premier receivers in the NFL in Julio Jones.  Jones has been hobbled by injuries this season, a lower leg injury early, a back injury, and most recently in Game 4 against the Bills before the BYE, a hip flexor injury.  He has been limited to only 19 receptions for 295 yards, no TD’s, a very pedestrian start for the season.  The BYE week should have allowed him to heal some, so we’ll see what Julio Jones can do against Xavien Howard and Cordrea Tankersley.

The Falcons defense is nothing special this season, although last season they were pretty good.  They have excellent team speed, with a speedy group of LB’s that fly to the football, with Vic Beasley, Deion Jones and De’Vondre Campbell.  The Falcons also have 2 of the better NFL CB’s, Des Trufant and Robert Alford.  Patrolling the secondary is S Keanu Neal, who forced 5 fumbles last season, along with S Ricardo Allen.  The front 4 are average, except DT Dontari Poe.  Brooks Reed and Courtney Upshaw are the ends, with Dontari Poe and Grady Jarrett as the DT’s.  Tak McKinley is on the depth chart at DE, a guy I liked for the Dolphins.

The way the Dolphins defense played last week, I think the defense can do enough to keep us in this game, but something has to get this offense going or we will be out of this one by halftime.  Devante Parker will likely be a game time decision with his ankle injury, so that means either Jakeem Grant or Leonte Carroo, or some combination of the 2, would replace him.  Parker brought so much promise in the preseason, a guy ready to make that leap to elite status, yet a bewildered offense led by Jay Cutler hasn’t allowed that to come to fruition. Gase has to find a way for this offense to get on track.  Obviously getting the run game going would help, but maybe we have to get the passing game going to get the run game going.  Maybe we have to try and throw the ball deeper than 10 yards past the LOS, and challenge opposing defenses.  Why we haven’t done so is a combination of things.  Plays are breaking down too quickly due to the offensive line not holding up their part,  QB Jay Cutler is flustered too quickly as soon as he either senses or actually sees pressure, and it also seems none of the receivers are playing with any urgency and are fighting to get open.  This has to change, or we will be 2-3 after this week.

Miami Dolphins mini camp

I still Trust in Gase.  We Dolphins fans are used to bailing on our coaches, mostly because they deserved it, but I don’t think Gase deserves that quite yet.  So despite all the FU doctors, QB gurus, OC’s etc, maybe we should give Gase a chance to turn the offense around, just like he did last year, at 1-4.  How bout it you stubborn SOB’s, can you do it?  Can you be a loyal fan to the coach who brought us to the playoffs last season?  Will you kneel when Gase runs through the tunnel and on to the field?  Will that be disrespectful if you do?  I guess that’s all in the individual eye of the beholder . . .

GO DOLPHINS!  Zero in!

People still believe that there is a dominant male, old man of wisdom overseeing everything they do somewhere in the sky/heavens. They call him Our Father or God or G_d, etc. When do humans address this seriously?

Oh right can’t go there, it’s offensive. See how that works?

Nobody wants to touch this and that’s the problem. Many people say society is failing because of the breakdown of the two parent dynamic and a Godless society. I say it’s because we’re forced into believing that is the answer.

God has a really bad batting average but he/she is still thought of as perfect. Based on what? So if someone believes in something else it’s blasphemy. Still no takers? If God is so supreme, why is he/she so distant and non-loving and involved? Oh right, he/she works in mysterious ways. Sorry, not buying that anymore. Is that opinion okay or is that just another heretic example to make you feel good about your view and who needs to be punished? The typical human response.

Can anyone provide proof of God? Why is it so mysterious? You would think a God would be well established, no?

Typical responses and no answers. I figured as much. God is good, whatever that means. Then we go back to what’s happening in the world and shake our heads. Don’t worry, God will take care of it. It’s been a long time tested theory and belief and the results are in. Perfect score, right?

Yeah I’m David Part II. Easy to say, tougher to live with the reality. Oh my, God doesn’t exist the way we think he/she does. Just wondering, is God male or female?

    • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Depends. Everyone has their personal God. For some it’s a mystic entity, for others it’s money, and for some it’s a lack of faith and belief.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Right, when should God be a part of our human existence when it pertains to laws? The only mystical thing that is allowed in human culture is the existence of some God. All other things are viewed as magic and illusion. But God is real. Really?

Once again, I understand why people want to feel this way and have faith, but what if it isn’t true? How do we go from there?

Sorry, when I asked God to let me speak to my grandmother who passed in 1973 and got no answer, I knew it wasn’t what everyone was saying. Why would God neglect me with that simple request? Because he/she doesn’t exist. Yet we still make policy based on this mysterious existence. Sorry, I have a problem with that. Maybe God gave that to me. If so, then what, if not, then what?

AFTER Sunday’s “win” over Tennessee, Young Stanger, your’s truly, and most other observers of the Miami team thought the Fins had NO CHANCE against the Falcons this coming Sunday in Atlanta. As a result, the betting line, which opened with the ATL favored by 9 has ballooned to 12 POINTS per this morning’s fish wrap!!
    ———————
In the words of Lee Corso, “NOT so fast, my friend!” Last year, Atlanta was only 3-5 vs. the spread at home (despite getting to the Super Bowl). This year, they’re 1-1, meaning they’ve only beat the spread 4 out of their last 10 home games. You say, “Ya’, but the Falcons are coming offf a “BYE” week!” Well, in this franchise’s history, they are 10-12-1 ATS coming off a bye week. Add the fact that Julio Jones is all banged up and you begin to ask yourself,”How big must the spread be for Miami to be the better option?” My answer to that question is “12 points.” I believe there’s LESS than a 50/50 chance that Atlanta wins by 13 or more in this game.
A whole group of factors lead me to believe Miami can make this game close. #1 among those considerations is the performance of Miami’s “D” under horrible circumstances (Little or no help from the “O”). I won’t go into my other reasons, but suffice it to say that I believe MIAMI CAN COVER A 12-POINT SPREAD!

    HOWIE/HERD — HOWIE/HERD — HOWIE/HERD
24-13 ATL Fins cover the 12 points; ALSO, take the “UNDER” in the over/under, now 47 points.

“Looking back, I wish I would have mixed them both in a little more,” Adam Gase said Thursday. “I was trying to fix a lot of formations. I didn’t want to mess Kenny [Stills] up either. We felt Jakeem gave us a good a chance as Carroo – probably should have mixed [Carroo] in a little more.”

    Dolphins – 52
    Falcons – 10

Dolphins offense roars to life with 4 TD passes from Cutler, 2 rushing TDs from Ajayi, and a 28 yd FG from Parkey. Dolphins also get a strip-sack fumble recovery for a TD, Harris with the score.

Atlanta draws first blood with a FG on their first possession, then proceeds to miss a total of 3 FGs from distances of 48, 52, 37 before finally scoring a TD on their 2nd to last possession of the game.

On Monday, after celebrating a resounding win deep into the night, Kong correctly picks all the numbers for the next Powerball drawing and is never seen on the finsmobunleashed site again. Rumors abound, and over the next few years, reports have him surfacing in various points on the map wearing a cheap, tattered Spiderman costume while saving burning babies from houses and rescuing trees from aggressive, limb-hugging, acrophobic cats. When asked about his possible connection to these events, Kong’s ex-wife tells reporters “Yeah, that sounds about right.” and refuses to give any other statement on the matter.

The Dolphins win the Super Bowl in the 2022 season, and cameras catch the image of haggard looking man in the crowd, wearing a Spiderman costume, mask off, tears in his eyes.

Landry said it is embarrassing to fans who shout WE WANT MOORE. Landry upset about it

  39. Fans calling for Moore, broadcasters, explayers , coaches, all calling for Moore. The net and airwaves are loaded at people laughing at our 10 million dollar desperation mistake called Cutler.
Are they right? In Cutlers defense, well, he has 2 TD,s, lol. That’s about all to say on Cutler.
There is One coach going with Cutler, that’s Gase, so either he knows more than everyone else, or were screwed when Cutler implodes

  41. Landry should get whatever he can get, no hometown discount owed. Dolphins can move some players around or whatever, but Landry has earned his money, and while a discount would be nice, iWe can’t expect it, and it’s unfair to ask a man playing his ass off on a rookie contract for a discount.
He has waited 4 years for his payday, discounts are for someone with a fat ass contract, like Tannehill , that also misses a bunch of games over the last 2 years

I think it’s fair to question Gase’s decision-making until our Offensive performances render such a question as unwarranted.

Methinks Gase is loyal to a fault with Cutler… they are like BFFs, based on everything I’ve read, heard, and seen with my own eyes (on the TV… not in person, of course). I recognize this ‘loyalty to a fault’ behavior… because that’s MY problem, as well.

I think you’re missing my greater point. We barely beat the 1-4 Chargers and we barely beat the 2-3 Titans. The stej killed us and the Saints shut us out.

If we’re dependent upon missed FGs and gifts from the zebras in order to win — while our Defense is TOP-5 — something is VERY WRONG with our Offense.

For sure… these things happen every week to every team, but it generally doesn’t affect the outcome of a win or loss unless it’s a one-score game. Our slim wins having been contingent upon these little things is what is so concerning. If our Offense is doing what it’s supposed to do, we should be beating teams by a margin of no less than 10 points… no excuses.

Despite his case being struck down, Elliott has some legal life left.. Based on the court’s decision, he can seek a proper jurisdiction and re-file his lawsuit in the Southern District of New York. That’s the same turf where the case of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady crashed and burned in 2016

    ——————————————————
Tim, you seem to base your perception of God off experience you have had with “God’s people”, most of which couldn’t tell you what a real personal relationship with God is. Ill give you my best answer for your questions, but ill tell you at the end what its really about.

The good or bad judgement of God is a perspective thing and you have just as many thinking he is bad as good, the real problem is not many people think of him at all when doing the good or bad they do, on a conceptual level God is morality, so do you have a moral compass that tells you your doing good or bad? If you do bad did God may you do that or did you ignore your moral compass? If you did good, was that God or were you just following that compass? God is a director/producer of a full improvisational play, he gives the actors things they need to make the scenes(direction, support, love), but those actors have to bring it to life, and the end result will be a combination of contribution, both good and bad, that will take the play to a happy or tragic end.

God isn’t male or female, i subconsciously pick a male pronoun when i talk about him, but that’s because the real concept of what a deity is, is outside our comprehension. God is God, formless, limitless and omnipotent. It wouldn’t really matter if they were male or female, black or white, or something completely indescribable, you don’t love them for their characteristics, you don’t respect and honor them just because they can be relateable to you, you do it because they are God, your maker, and the one that provided you with an opportunity to live this life of your own free will.

Tim everything i believe in i believe in with every molecule in my body. I have questioned it in the past. I have sought out other meanings that would make me feel more secure about being right, or at least provable that i was right. I have been mad at God, i have been disrespectful to God, hell im a pretty damn flawed person to really feel i know anything about any of this, but my in my heart i have never found a more right thing for me. I dont feel i have to prove God’s existence to belive in him, i don’t think i have to make God the reason i do a good thing or a bad thing, nor do i feel the need to credit him with all things good, i credit him with this life, and to be honest all of your lives too. To me God has already done enough for me in that, and im hoping that before i die i can do enough for him to make at least a few more people feel this way.

    • D's avatar D says:

One last thing, i also do not feel a need to tell you you are wrong, as i have said before, faith in God is a personal relationship, no one should tell you you must have one, and anyone doing that doesn’t really understand faith. Wanting someone else to have faith is just wanting them to have a belief in something that enriches their lives, and to me if atheism is that thing for you, if the belief in nothing makes you feel in control and at peace, then that’s where you need to be. You know in your heart if it is, or isn’t, i have no place telling you that.

Tim im not berating you, im trying to bridge a gap between a person of faith and a person with a different kind of faith. • D's avatar D says:

To be honest i didnt even see the rant from last night, i saw the re-post above and i just wanted to explain my beliefs. I think there is a big problem right now with a lot of people claiming to be God’s people but not showing an ounce of understanding for the people they lambast, nor for their own religion. Multiple different things within the christian faith speak against what they do, and my point to them is normally, you dont understand why people are turning from God right now, grab your bible, sit in the mirror and read the passages while you self evaluate, and im pretty sure that answer is going to be staring right back at you.

  56. Tim, I believe God is there for everyone, but not everyone is there for him.
Sometimes people need to humble themselves , and ask what He wants, instead of what they want. A lot to go into on a football blog, lol but I would try some personal meditation and soul searching, and I believe You WILL get some answers. I do it when I need it and it’s Golden!
The universe is loaded with positive sources from God, tying into them isn’t that hard, and rewards You with unexpected ways, and predictable ways, but always a way.
I believe when God promises us He would never give us more than We can bear, so if I ever come close to that feeling, and a few times I have, I ask for help, and always receive 😎

  57. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

M13, the offense is hurting our chances in these games, we all know this. The defense was good enough to win all 4 games. Scoring 19, 6, 0 and 9 is not enough to beat any team most of the time. Allowing 17, 20, 20 and 10 is good enough to win most games. So how we won or almost lost doesn’t concern me much, how bad the offense has looked does for sure. That has to change, and change fast.

  58. D's avatar D says:

Tim i lost my grandmother 2 days before my birthday, shit in what seems like forever ago now. This was a woman who was the person i was closest to in my family. I loved her like nothing else. She had an aneurysm and even though i prayed hard for God to let me see her, to not let her die, to take me instead of her, everything i could think of to stop the inevitable, he took her. I was very upset, mad at God for not saving her.

My uncle, her son, who had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, but they felt like they got it all, relapsed very soon after and was dead shortly after that. It would have destroyed my grandmother has she had to watch what the rest of us in the family watched when a big strong 6’4 former football player and successful executive got brought to his knees, bed ridden and calling to his mother as he hallucinated from the pain medication he was having to take. So now i knew why my prayers weren’t answered, its because the future prayers of my grandmothers were.

Its not our place to feel we should have all prayers answered, just to be grateful when some of them are. The rest is faith that there is something out there that knows the answers to why, is in control. Again, thats how i feel, and im sure you dont feel the same, but im just trying to be helpful if i can. Shit like that hurts, and it never really gets better. Im sorry for your loss as much as i am my own.

Thanks for your approach and compassion about it.

  59. I went through it with my sister, she was an incredible girl, and mother of three, and I lost her to brain cancer. I really did feel like God owed me an answer, for a long time.

Do you know much about all those scriptures? It’s a lot. I worked for Orthodox Jews and they study the Torah daily and are always discussing and pondering its meaning.

Not calling you out, it’s just a lot of thoughts and ideals written by humans over a few thousand years. Whether it was inspired by God, doesn’t it lend itself to say there should be no religion because it creates too many different Gods? Religion is human to me whether God exists or not. I also believe evolution can exist with God because humans are wrong about nature all the time. God may say I did not create the world in 7 days. I’ve been at this for millions of years.

More established Asian and Hebrew cultures may go back over 6,000 years. Why did these scriptures get created so late in God’s plan?

  67. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Naples, so you believe life is God?

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Well put, … not exactly how I say it, but you might be saying the same thing.

I believe that God is the spirit of life, God is that spark which sets life apart from inanimate objects. Rocks are not God, nor are any other inanimate objects. They have no animus.

But all living things possess and share that energy which animates and activates us all.

That is why people can communicate with animals and even plants … because we communicate through that channel of energy. Now i do not mean corn speaks English, but rather that corn sustains us with its energy and when we nurture plants they flourish.

Death is defined as the cessation of occupancy of a particular molecular construct by its active energy. Since energy is neither created nor destroyed, there is life after death. It’s just not “up there” nor anywhere specific nor do we maintain our corporeal attributes.

The spirit does not die, however, and “kindred spirits” might very well maintain bonds and recognition after physical death with those they knew before. It is almost certain that when freed from the limitations of the body, the human spirit, your God-self, will be free to recognize and empathize and reconnect with your grandmother’s freed spirit, her godself.

As the energy leaves that which is known as the human body, it can transfer to another host and it will continue on forever, which is why some people feel that thing they call reincarnation.

Reincarnation is real. Just not in the sense that a specific human once lived as another specific human (or cockroach) in the historical past. New plants grow from the detritus on the forest floor. The spirit never dies, nor does the matter; it merely, or grandly, reconstitutes itself into another corporeal entity. A human’s molecules, or matter, might come back as a tree. One’s energy might energize a tree. How grand it would be to be an oak tree, how beautiful it would be to come back as a rose. Or a tiger. Or a dolphin.

The concept of free-ranging spirits is an area of debate in my religion, with some thinking no spirit can exist without a body and others thinking the spirit can exist “in the ether” for lack of a better term, which is why some people swear they have “seen” ghosts or have communicated with departed loved ones, the bonds being so strong as to transcend the limitations of the flesh.

That interconnected energy for example is sometimes known as empathy and is so strong that people can cry at movies, give charity to the needy thousands of miles away, and bond with seemingly disparate foreigners with no apparent similar language or customs.

That is why prayer works when it works and why some say it works in mysterious ways.

Although we do not believe that you can petition the Lord in prayer in the sense that the Doors meant it, we do believe in what D and MF and others above mean when they say they feel a power of brotherhood (or herdhood, in certain West Virginia cases) welling up in bountiful well-wishes for others.

God is the channel for the incredible power of prayer when mass amounts of people pray for the improvement of a condition affecting others in the God-spiritual energy network. This does not always prevent death. It does ensure that the spirit of the dying person is comforted and made “happy” however it is that energy can be happy, and the spirit or our loved ones never forgets the people who cared for them in their former corporeal state.

  82. President Woodrow Wilson once said, “This flag, which we honor and under which we serve, is the emblem of our unity, our power, our thought and purpose as a nation. It has no other character than that which we give it from generation to generation. The choices are ours. It floats in majestic silence above the hosts that execute those choices, whether in peace or in war. And yet, though silent, it speaks to us — speaks to us of the past, or the men and women who went before us, and of the records they wrote upon it.”

For both past and current military members, rendering a salute has always been deeply imbedded in their minds as part of the U.S. Armed Forces. Sword salutes, gun salutes, greetings and honoring the American flag – while distinct salutes – are all similarly done to express honor and respect.

    Reveille and Retreat
According to AFPAM 34-1202, 14.10.1, Reveille and Retreat, the U.S. flag is flown daily from reveille until retreat. Reveille is the raising of the flag for the day’s activities and is a ceremony to honor the flag when it is raised in the morning and plays at 7 a.m. Retreat is the retirement of the flag from the day’s activities and plays at 4:30 p.m.

During the playing of reveille and retreat, uniformed military personnel should stand at attention and face the American flag, or the direction of the music if a flag is not visible. If reveille or retreat is followed by the national anthem or “To the Color,” military personnel should salute (during the entirety of the song).

. Civilians should stand at attention and place their right hand – with a hat if they’re wearing one – over their heart.

It’s only a sprained ankle but sometimes you need to stay off of it for a week or two. This does give the depth a chance to prove themselves.

        I think so too
I’m not broken up about it

We are still waiting for the offense to gel – that doesn’t have to come through him

So to me, it’s not make or break

I just got an update in FF league that Parkers status has been changed from questionable to doubtful

Sometimes I wonder about Gase. He says something along the lines of, I need to get Caroo involved more, I intended to but….. Need to do this, need to do that…every week he says something and doesn’t seem like much changes. Well, he’s calling the plays. He decides who is in and who isn’t right? I think he needs to have a meeting with himself and fire the play caller and get a new one.

I really questioned Gase a lot at the start of the 2016 season
And then we ended up having a great season

So I give him a lot of latitude
But I don’t get the plays he’s calling
Or the qb he’s sticking with

He does seem to have inner challenges with himself.
