Man does our orange ever lose the battle in those bar charts. But guess that and on the road explains why we are nine point dogs. Certain freedom to a game you think we will lose though. Play close and it feels alright. Win and it is one you remember for years.
Our stats are pretty awful Stanger, no way around that. On the other hand, if we continue the success we had this past week, and play a little better on defense, we can win this one. Got to stay efficient on offense, and move the ball, and score points. Can’t let penalties ruin our drives.
Our stats are real bad on O. Not bad on D, but the Panthers walk in with some of the best in the league. Actually think Burke and the front 7 (and two “bad” safeties) should be OK against their run game’s strengths…including Newton. For a win though, Gase is going to need some game-scheming magic.
The Hurricanes are ranked #2 in the AP poll,we have VA at home this week, next week we play at Pitt, Pitt’s the one i’m worried about, after that we play Clemson for the ACC crown.
either way you look at it if we win 2 out of 3 i think we may still be in the playoffs, it would be nice to run the table though.
Stanger – McDonald can make a big difference for us. I feel like Nate Allen was invisible most of the time, and Michael Thomas just ins’t big enough of physical enough to make a difference in run support.
Unless Damien and Drake can get the chains moving like Ajayi, this could be a long game tonight behind a beat-up O-Line and against a premier run-D. We’re likely to become a 1-dimensional Offense again, dinking-n-dunking away.
I’d like to reiterate… it was a fool’s move to trade Ajayi away for a mere 4th rounder, without an adequate replacement in-house. It’s a akin to quitting your job before you’ve already landed another. But anyway, I digress…
If our Defense can play lights out on a REAL field, we’re in this game to the very end. MR. Wake is HUNGRY and he’s going to be bringing HEAT. Hopefully this results in Newton’s apple turnover galore.
Id say its more like transferring one of your netter workers to a different division, because he was insubordinate to the manager of his current one and then telling that manager next year when we are hiring replacement employees, you will get one of that divisions FTE hiring spots to help rebuild your workforce.
Insubordinate employees affect the health of a team and sometimes even if you have a really good one they are caustic to the productivity as a whole. We actually had a guy here at my company that was just like that, very brilliant employee, couldnt get him to do what we tasked him to, he was always working on side projects we didnt put him on, he caused team issue by being a constant complainer. He’s in a different group now, one where i think he is benefiting from being in a position where what he is doing more matches what he wants from work, and the team is benefitting from having a more cohesive unit.
Besides, no one can say that Drake and Damien cant be productive, thier first game they equaled what we were getting from Ajayi this year, so its not like a big drop off so far.
BTW those side projects were something he thought he was doing for the benefit of himself, and to some extent the team, but they werent what we needed him doing, and because of that, or plan for keeping the team running the right was was affected, might not feel like a good parallel between real business and the NFL but understanding how it made it harder on us to get good productivity before he was moved and how we saw better productivity after he was move, i can promise you , face value of a move like that isnt always reflective of the true benefit of it.
Call it dink and dunk or whatever, but our offense looked more coordinated and smooth than it had all year. To me, it looked pretty similar to the Patriots offense, quick throws, move the chains.
Dink and dunk can lead to beig plays, its basically lulling a team into playing shallow and the CB/S’s thinking they have dont have to stay sharp, and then bam, there’s a chunk yardage play, not to mention with the players we have dink and dunk can turn into a big chunk yardage play. Both at WR and RB we have those players that can make big things happen off small plays. With Parker and Stills we have our caught ya sleeping, and with Landry and Drake, we have the chunk yards of small plays, the offense if clicking can be very dangerous with the people we have, and Ajayi doesn’t really strengthen that ability, he definitely wasn’t help strengthening it, when he was going off the game plan.
Mike the Pats offense is set up the same, except they have a TE’s who also get them chunk yards. If we had a more viable players there we would be almost exactly setup like the Pats.
I’m actually heading to the city today. First I’m going to N.Bergen to visit my niece and my sisters in-laws, then we’re going to make a Shiva call (give condolences) to my fathers cousins family, they’re uptown east side.. Then we’re heading back to N.Bergen and then to Hoboken to have dinner with my sonny. Long day, but it should be nice.
There’s a difference between throwing to your backs out in the flat behind the LOS and throwing them short passes past the LOS. We do way to much of the former. Nobody is gonna pull their coverage closer to the LOS to stop those throws because they don’t hurt anybody. I would guess teams are thrilled to let us do that all game long. And, with the state of our OL, we may not have a choice. I don’t see us being able to establish an actual running game tonight, but i’d like to see us try.
Think with this OL we have no real choice, but there are outside runs and draws as well. Plus our top 3 receivers are quality and seems our QB is much more comfortable when he knows he won’t get hit. Cutler was real good last game in the after J-Train scheme.

Wyoming coach Craig Bohl, speaking now during Monday press conference, said he thinks Josh Allen (shoulder) will be cleared to practice this week. He said Allen might be game-time decision vs. Fresno State on Saturday.
I agree we are a very flawed team. If the coaches and GM claim they recognize that, I would like to see them operate that way in the offseason. Make moves that keep our cap flexible, hoard draft picks, and focus on bargain veteran FAs that fill needs. Need to be patient and build with a long term goal in mind.
I think they’re well aware of it and the plan is what you’re saying. They’re not where they want to be yet, You know what, there are a lot of teams in the same boat, look good at times and bad at times. There is some bad football being played throughout the league with the exception of a handful of teams. It would be great if we could take that next step after another offseason. Let’s see how we finish this year.
Agree with both you and drg….there is a long-term plan involved and that only makes sense given what we came into the season with. Q to me has always been when do they see the chance to max out for that real run. Until they see that chance smart move is to build for the future and wait for that window.
Every team is a flawed team. The Patriots D isn’t great and their OL is not what it used to be. The Chiefs are very inconsistent. The Cowboys were man handled yesterday. The Eagles have squeaked by some wins against some questionable teams like the Giants. Being a flawed team is situation normal in this league
Yeah, I agree with you about the entire league being fairly average. With few exceptions, teams are up and down based on injuries, schedule, and luck. I just get frustrated with the big contracts we give out or some of the trades that waste draft picks. I just don’t think many of those moves are necessary since we can compete with most every team with or without those high priced guys.
What a tragedy she became, SMH. I feel very sorry for her and her family having to deal with her addiction while under the spotlight. She died WAAAAY too soon. Such a beautiful voice and such a creative writer. She was ONE of a kind and she’s dearly missed!
Drake and Williams are good receivers. Like I said yesterday, I’d like to see us use Drake like the Saints use Kamara, he has the speed to do the same types of things.

M – You need to get over the Ajayi trade. It’s behind us and whatsa behind me is no important.

———–
I hear ya, man, but I think it was premature to deal him: a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. So until we find another mauling back, I think we’re going to see a LOT of passing from here on out. I don’t like that aspect as it keeps us 1-dimensional. I like to keep the opposition guessing.
I’m left to hope that Drake emerges… and FAST! Drake reminds me a lot of Lamar Miller.
how many rb’s could get 100 yds rushing when he has defenders waiting to tackle him as soon as he gets the handoff.
c’mon man!! you watched the games. those stats mean nothing. ajayi was running hard every time he got the ball, fighting for yards. he can’t block for himself. the run blocking has sucked this year and it was no better in the last game. that’s why we only ran the ball 18 times.
Tim,
It’s the same thing year after year. They’re aware of what needs to be done to fix things. Then, they don’t fix them. So, are they aware and don’t fix them because they don’t know what they’re doing? These guys get paid a lot of money to “fix things” but never get it right.
And, the fact that other teams are struggling doesn’t mean anything. If I’m the owner of a business I don’t except excuses. I EXPECT results. I don’t sit there and listen to people tell me “yeah, well, a good portion of the league isn’t playing good football right now” My response would be “yeah, well, I don’t want to be like the other guys who aren’t playing good football. I want to be playing better football. That’s what I pay you guys for”.
Nope. I don’t think they know how to fix things. Okay, let’s see how things play out for the remainder of the season. My GUESS is it doesn’t turn out well because they can’t just flick a light switch and all of a sudden play a lot better with the same guys who weren’t playing well enough before. I don’t understand how anyone can expect that to happen. And, like I said earlier, our hands our tied cap so the people who are supposed to know what they’re doing are going to have to prove they deserve their pay and status in the organization.
Prof Lou — for sure this season is gone other than maybe the off side chance of a playoff hit, but plenty of time to worry about next year next year. As is some of the games have been darn exciting, And as a customer of what they are selling….makes me happy to buy.
You been to the stadium since the renovations? Man is sitting in the shade so much better than before no matter the game…..that is one way in which the guys running have made the fan experience better.
I think that’s part of the problem. Miami fans like the glitz and the glamour and don’t give a shit about the product on the field. As long as they can go to all the fancy restaurants in the beautiful new stadium and be able to boast about it that’s all that matters.
The product on the field doesn’t matter as much and Ross and his little toady know that. Hell with a winning team. we’ve got world class atmosphere at the stadium. it’s the place to be.
Know how much you care about the Phins (as do I)….but not like we can call roster shots.
Once more though — you been to the stadium since the renovations? Not sure how 15 degrees cooler in the shade fits in with “glitz and the glamour.” More like a better place to watch a game. Can’t tell you what a difference it makes.
You can’t address every position every offseason including having to go outside for a QB when your starter goes down. We did add OL and many of them have gone down for the year. We had to add depth at DT and DE, LB, we’re rebuilding our secondary etc. It doesn’t happen overnight. Most fans here didn’t even think our playoff season last year was that impressive due to schedule etc. This new coaching staff took over a 6-10 team last year. As we know they always want to bring in their own guys. We’re in the middle of that now. It does take time. I don’t care about what has happened in the past because it doesn’t matter. This is year two with half a season left to play. That’s how I feel about it, we don’t all have to agree.
Lou,
Every fan gets to decide what their entertainment dollar means to them. If somebody wants to buy a ticket to a game because the toilets smell like lemons and the TP is cushy soft, that’s their right. But, I would agree that some fans value nice amenities over team success. There’s nothing wrong with that. As you said, it’s the TEAM’S job to build a winning product…not fans’.
I watch the Dolphins because I’ve been a fan for many years. I don’t control anything other than hoping for the best and rooting for them. Do I get frustrated? Yes! But that’s life as a sports fan, at least for some of us. LOL
I agree that every fan decides what’s important to them but I think Ross & Garfinkel think the fans want the amenities more than the product on the field. I really think they love the new stadium and everything that’s in it more than they care about the team that plays in the stadium.
Lou — when is that last time you went to a Dolphins home game? Just not sure what you have against the stadium experience getting better. And you saw the pics….not like we don’t set up the Fest in the nosebleeds. But heck yeah we appreciated the new escalator that brought us there.
Garfinkel is about the experience. Ross most definitely wants to win and gives the people in charge of the football team and the players everything they need to be successful. It’s not a perfect science though. If it was every team would be really good and that’s basically impossible.
16 teams have a winning record and 5 of them are 5-4. We’re 4-4 with a chance. We’ve seen worse.
I disagree, the Defense has been good when you consider the failures of the offense and special teams. the defense is ranked 10th, can you imagine where they would be if their backs were not always against the wall?
It’s great Rizzi is trying to redirect his short comings because his punter sucks! my sister is better, Rizzi should focus on his job because special teams suck!
I feel like Ross is a good owner. He seems to care and be willing to spend what ever it takes to make his franchise more successful. He doesn’t meddle like other owners and let’s the people he hires do their job.
He hasn’t been great at picking those people, but has never held back when he thought it would help the team. Making the fan experience at the stadium and making the product on the field better are not mutually exclusive. He’s not doing one to cover for not doing the other.
We are in year 1.5 of the latest rebuild. Halfway to flushing everything again (based upon our post Shula history) I expected a back step this season. A majority of new HC’s have the sophomore slump. I do not have a positive outlook on the remainder of the season. (think we will lose more than we win from here on) but I am not ready to give up on this regime after 25 games. (14-11 including a playoff loss)
I disagree strongly with this. We have hashed it for years. Old retreads are not the answer. Getting a “Young guy” and keeping him for years of continuity is the winning answer. Constant turnover of staffs, schemes and philosophies has set us back again and again. The hard part is finding that guy and doing everything else to make that guy successful.
That’s okay everyone laughs at ESPN all the time. Why are we a laughing stock when the Browns are 0-9, 49ers 1-9 and Giants 1-8? Oh that’s right, they’re ESPN. LOL

The problem isn’t the freakin fans Lou. That’s absurd. Like if we’re all outraged over the things you’re outraged about it somehow fixes everything.
NO! It’s HARD to run an NFL team and win, even harder when one of the all time great QBs and Coaches are in your division. The only problem the fans contribute too is when they divide each other with this rhetoric and don’t have enough humility to know their place in the universe. I have a job. I’m responsible for that. I am absolutely not, and never have been “part of the problem” with one of my sports teams.
Wow, I saw a joke on this very board about how bad the fins are. The fins have been laughed at before. I got skin as thick as armor from being a fan of this team. Doesn’t bother me at all. Fuck em!

Some of us do have other options than others. 🙂
Suh hasn’t missed a game since he’s been here, the defense if not put on a short field should hold up good, it’s our last ranked offense against their number one D that i’m worried about.

we’ve tried your strategy, it aint work’n
These TD celebrations they are coming up with are just plain stupid. They need to ban them again so the players will stop embarrassing themselves. Leap frog? LOL
Rob, the Jags have drafted top 10 for 10 straight years and 5 of those times were top 5. They should have some talent to overcome their QB play by now. That said, they’re like a lot of teams. Look really good or bad. They and the Chargers both did everything they could to lose yesterday. The Chargers were just a tad worse.
Speaking of the Chargers… I had a little drinking game with myself…I drank every time the announcers said San Diego instead of LA. I got pretty wasted. Lol.
I’ve got a hunch that Charles Harris is going to have himself a game this evening. If we can pin our ears back on D, he’s going to blow right by Matt Kalil. You heard it here FIRST!
He’s getting close. To me he needs to a get bigger and stronger to take the next step but he’s getting valuable experience this year and he has a non-stop motor. Effort is the least of his concerns.
McCaffrey is basically a receiver now. I drafted him in the 1st rd in my 4 protect league so that’s basically the 5th rd in a 10 team league. I released him a few weeks ago because he hasn’t been what I though he’d be. I picked up Kamara who was still out there and he is what I thought McCaffrey would be.
We need to use Drake like the Saints use Kamara, get him space and let him run.

The Dolphins (4-4) have the NFL’s lowest-scoring offense this season (14.5 PPG) and are currently a half-game out of the AFC’s last Wild Card spot
Since the 1970 merger, no team with the NFL’s lowest-scoring offense has won more than 6 games or made the postseason
Bro, this is no secret to anyone. That’s what happens when you score 0, 0, 6 and 9 in 4 of your games. It’s about the next 8 games, not harping on the same stats everyone is aware of.
Exactly, our stats will look much better at the end of the year if we start having success. I remember last season we started the season at the top of the NFL in Run Defense. Look how that wound up.
I’ve got a hunch that Charles Harris is going to have himself a game this evening. If we can pin our ears back on D, he’s going to blow right by Matt Kalil. You heard it here FIRST!

He better make sure he doesn’t bite on the option and blow right past Cam as he rumbles for 12 yards. Or visa versa, stick with Cam and let the RB by. The Ends have to keep their eyes on the ball.
Yep but Cam likes to run it between the tackles when the pocket breaks down a lot, not always outside. Our DL is the top rated team in QB hits at 15. something PG and the next best is 8.8 or something. Saw this the other day. Burke pointed it out that we need to clean up coverage in the backend. Not surprising with the youth at corner, revolving safeties and new LB groupings. Now is the time to clean this shit up though.
i’m so glad that blog is over, i’ve been eating salad the whole time!

Piggy is talking about them taking Thomas out on 3rd downs because he is needed on ST. They were giving him a bit of a rest.
I owe you a beer Mike E.
It’s chilled and waiting for you up here!
Nice! Frosty mug?
Okay gotcha, both of you. 🙂
Guys,
Yeah, I agree with you about the entire league being fairly average. With few exceptions, teams are up and down based on injuries, schedule, and luck. I just get frustrated with the big contracts we give out or some of the trades that waste draft picks. I just don’t think many of those moves are necessary since we can compete with most every team with or without those high priced guys.
This team will drive you to drink. That’s my excuse and I am sticking with it.
Son,
It’s good to see your loyalty to the Fins exceeds the Cam crush.

Seahawks signing CB Byron Maxwell to a one-year deal, per source.
Not surprised with Sherman going down.
Add Jaime Collins to the list of players done for the year. I’m sure there were more this weekend.

LOVE Amy Winehouse!!! RIP
Me too!
What a tragedy she became, SMH. I feel very sorry for her and her family having to deal with her addiction while under the spotlight. She died WAAAAY too soon. Such a beautiful voice and such a creative writer. She was ONE of a kind and she’s dearly missed!
I like Amy Winehouse too,.but let’s not get too emotional. She was a crank skank who could sing.
M – You need to get over the Ajayi trade. It’s behind us and whatsa behind me is no important.
forward of the line fro
Randy – I agree about the RB screens behind the line, But last week most of them were forward of the line. Hence the stats.
Drake and Williams are good receivers. Like I said yesterday, I’d like to see us use Drake like the Saints use Kamara, he has the speed to do the same types of things.

Maybe they can develop Perry and Smith(who is a mauler)
Not putting it all on Ajayi, but here are his stats. Let’s not act like he was getting 100+ every week because he wasn’t. We had some of our worst games on offense with him.
http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/2573300/jay-ajayi
how many rb’s could get 100 yds rushing when he has defenders waiting to tackle him as soon as he gets the handoff.
c’mon man!! you watched the games. those stats mean nothing. ajayi was running hard every time he got the ball, fighting for yards. he can’t block for himself. the run blocking has sucked this year and it was no better in the last game. that’s why we only ran the ball 18 times.
You have to say “a pig in hand is worth two in the mud” for the porcine among us to understand.
Tim,
It’s the same thing year after year.
We’ve been saying for years “when the offense is playing well, the defense isn’t and when the defense is playing well, the offense isn’t”
Well, Rizzi said the team just figured that out.
GAMEDAY!!!!! Time to kick some ass!
Go Phins!!!!
I agree. We don’t all have to agree. lol
Lou,
Every fan gets to decide what their entertainment dollar means to them.
We’ve seen worse.
http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nfl/miami-dolphins/article184363453.html
Rizzi get’s it. This is exactly what I have seen for years. Now go and help Gase FIX IT.
What kind of music would Cutler have playing as he walked in with headphones on?
I bet it’s Harry Connick Jr. and some Michael Buble mixed in
“Smokin'” by Boston
SMOK’N BIG CIGARS AND DRIV’N CADDILAC CARS
GO DOLPHINS!!!!!!
HOWIE’S REPLACEMENT!!
20-17 Car
😦
It’s time Ross started hiring experienced coaches, every coach he has hired has never been an NFL HC. and that’s why we cant win
Wow, they are laughing about us on ESPN. we’ve literally become a laughingstock. 😔

You’re not rooting hard enough. Now get back on your couch and correct this shit. LOL
lol..I need to get madder!
Wow, I saw a joke on this very board about how bad the fins are. The fins have been laughed at before. I got skin as thick as armor from being a fan of this team. Doesn’t bother me at all. Fuck em!
I’m freak/n tired of these 30 yard punts, we’re getting killed in field position

Lol…That bolt is always a little off the mark. I had to retire it due to the collateral damage it kept causing. 😛
if god was going to intervene in football, I think he would have by now.
I don’t question why Jahn does or doesn’t do anything. LOL
Our board god did rain down some mighty fine beer at a Fest though without even being there. 🙂
Suh hasn’t missed a game since he’s been here, the defense if not put on a short field should hold up good, it’s our last ranked offense against their number one D that i’m worried about.
^legit concern!
Suh practiced a couple of days and is expected to play. Maybe he plays a few less snaps than usual.
No sense worrying about the offense Rob, they either start playing better or they’re broken and there will be changes next year.

we should have jumped all over Coughlin when the stupid Giants dumped him, The man knows how to win and has a proven track record.
we’ve tried your strategy, it aint work’n
A 71 year old HC is not looking towards the future. You think he’s coaching in 3 years?
He’s not coaching now but he’s calling the shots in Jax, and oh btw, they are 6-3 with a lame duck as a QB!
These TD celebrations they are coming up with are just plain stupid. They need to ban them again so the players will stop embarrassing themselves. Leap frog? LOL
It is silly.
Lol.
LOL
I’ve got a hunch that Charles Harris is going to have himself a game this evening. If we can pin our ears back on D, he’s going to blow right by Matt Kalil. You heard it here FIRST!
He’s getting close. To me he needs to a get bigger and stronger to take the next step but he’s getting valuable experience this year and he has a non-stop motor. Effort is the least of his concerns.
GO PHINS, AND SEE YOU ALL LATER
Hopefully after a win and there is much rejoicing. But it’s possible we win and then harp on how easily we could have lost. LOL

The Dolphins defense has allowed the 8th-fewest yards per carry (3.69) this season
Panthers RBs Christian McCaffrey and Jonathan Stewart are the NFL’s bottom two in yards per carry among the 46 qualified rushers
#MIAvsCAR
McCaffrey is basically a receiver now. I drafted him in the 1st rd in my 4 protect league so that’s basically the 5th rd in a 10 team league. I released him a few weeks ago because he hasn’t been what I though he’d be. I picked up Kamara who was still out there and he is what I thought McCaffrey would be.
We need to use Drake like the Saints use Kamara, get him space and let him run.
Because Cam is their lead running back

Reply
He better make sure he doesn’t bite on the option and blow right past Cam as he rumbles for 12 yards. Or visa versa, stick with Cam and let the RB by. The Ends have to keep their eyes on the ball.
Agreed
Yep but Cam likes to run it between the tackles when the pocket breaks down a lot, not always outside. Our DL is the top rated team in QB hits at 15. something PG and the next best is 8.8 or something. Saw this the other day. Burke pointed it out that we need to clean up coverage in the backend. Not surprising with the youth at corner, revolving safeties and new LB groupings. Now is the time to clean this shit up though.
this^^
Things could be a little tough out there tonight.
