Week 14 – Game 13 – Patriots @ Dolphins

Miami-Dolphins-Vs-New-England-Patriots-NFL-Poster

Monday Night Football!  Dolphins go prime time again!  Prime Time has been nothing less than brutal for our “Not Ready for Prime Time Players”.

vs Saints in London – LOSS 20-0

vs Ravens TNF  – LOSS 40-0

vs Panthers MNF – LOSS 45-21

So basically, 3 games in prime time, and we were outscored 105-21.  That’s unbelievably hideous.  I don’t know what to expect from our Dolphins after we drubbed the Broncos senseless on Sunday 35-9.  Will that be the team that shows up on Monday night, or is it the NRFPTP troop?  I wish I could tell you, but I just haven’t a clue as to what’s going to happen.  If I’m being honest, I’m not really expecting us to be in this game, I just can’t imagine we’re going to put it all together against an NFL team like the Patriots who is just methodically dismantling every team they play.  Even on a day where QB Tom Brady has a poor game, they win easily.  They are a tough beat at 10-2, they really are.  On the other hand, we usually give them one tough game per year, so maybe this is it.

gronk-suspended-story

Well, Gronk did us a favor last week when he got all frustrated that the Patriots didn’t get a call for once on what he thought was defensive holding at the least, or even pass interference on Bills DB Tre’Davious White, so Gronk took matters upon himself to dish out judgement, and after doing a whiny little dance about not getting the call, he promptly turned around, and dove on top of White who was already face down on the sidelines, and delivered a vicious forearm shiver to his helmet.  Gronk should probably be missing a few games for that, but he happens to play for the Patriots, so . . .

I’d love to see Drake have another strong game, and I would really love to see Devante Parker have a freaking big game for once!  If Parker does nothing, I’d sit his ass and start Leonte Carroo III at least for one game, while the embarrassed Parker assumes the bench role Carroo III currently owns.  Who knows, maybe the kid will finally show us why we traded up for him.  I’d also love to see the defense play like they did last week, and make some big plays and turn the Pats over a few times.

Anyway, enjoy the game, and hope for the best!

That is the Dolphins team I expected to see all season!!

  20. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

BTW, I have to take credit for the win cause I was wearing my Dolphins jammies.

  21. My question: is this team for real or is it just a mirage? We’ll see over the next few weeks if they can run the table. My other question is the same as everyone else’s. Where has this team been all season? Is it sustainable? Why weren’t players like Grant, Gray and Drake used more earlier in the season?

We play like this the remainder of the season with the schedule we have and we could end up 9-7 and in the playoffs. But, I just hope Gase doesn’t decide to dial it back on offense for some reason and not use the same types of plays he did this past week and not use the same players again. Grant proved he can be a deadly weapon if you use him so let’s keep it going.

    Dilly Dilly!!

  22. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Grant looks like Mark Duper when he’s running his routes

If you weren’t a fins fan i’m not sure you would know who NE was playing against in the pre game or post game, all they showed were patriot BS, the post game interview only had Brady and Bellichick, they didn’t show gase or cutler.

  25. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

A good offense helps make the Defense good, winning is infectious

  26. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Great Goal line stance at the end,

  27. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

one of the keys to winning was how we were playing man on the wr’s and jamming them at the line, this allowed the pass rush to get to and shake up Brady.

  28. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

That was so much fun last night, watching the Dolphins basically dominate the Patriots. This is one where the score doesn’t even tell the story. We beat them in every phase, just about all game long.

I don’t expect them to play this well every game, I’m just not sure we can manage that, but if we can come close, we can be in every game the rest of the way

  29. Ken's avatar Ken says:

The best part is that we beat up Brady physically. It may have only been 2 sacks but he took a lot of hits

  30. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I need a 32 jersey. Not since the days of Benny Malone had a phin done that number proud

  33. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I got to watch some of the game, but not all of it. One thing I loved about the defense last night was how the defense was setup to get rid of those quick wr screens and then tackling immediately.

  34. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

    something about those old uniforms???

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yes, I believe there is. They look meaner. The new pastel colored uniforms make us look like a bunch of pansies. We need to go back to the darker unis

  35. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Defense was spot on last night. Like ORob the one thing that stood out to me defensively was the press coverage. They played press and disrupted NE’s routes almost every play. The big completions came against zone. Howard was playing out of his mind last night.

Offensively it was the J & K show. Cutler and Drake were on fire. OL was ehhh at best. Drake earned most of his yards alone. Very little push up front and mostly very small holes. Cutler uncharacteristically scrambled out of trouble a lot and threw the ball away when needed. The two sacks were totally on the line. Given it was a patchwork line they did okay.

Should have had two more TD’s. Thomas and Grant both got behind the defense and dropped perfectly thrown passes. Grant is starting to remind me of Chambers with speed. Makes the circus catch, drops the routine one.

And whomever pshawed me last week for calling a win out and playoffs….HA! And bite me…..

  36. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Anyone else still think the o side kick was hilarious?

  37. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Parker is so frustrating to watch out there. He’s lucky his last drop wasn’t picked off, but he dropped a couple of easy passes last night. I’m sure they’re expecting him to just snap out of this, but I would consider benching his ass. Maybe he needs to fight for his job a little.

  38. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Not sure why Parker’s confidence is down, he gets to start every game, even if he does nothing. That should change. Put him 5th on the depth chart behind Grant and Carroo. Maybe he needs to be shown he can’t take anything for “Grant”ed.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Just think how bad Caroo must be if he can’t see the field given how Parker is playing and that they are giving snaps to a 5’7” instead of him

  39. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Not having Gronk really hampered the Patriots last night. It enabled us to really cover the other the guys, but we did an excellent job all night.

  40. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

The two week “thaw” in this icy season comes from RUNNING the BALL again!!

We only moved up two spots in ESPN power rankings but I like the blurb cuz it explains how we got back to last year’s mojo:
“Kenyan Drake is showing why the Dolphins were willing to deal Jay Ajayi at the trade deadline. Drake has rushed for 100 yards in back-to-back games and accumulated an NFL-best 334 scrimmage yards in the past two weeks.”

  44. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

What I wonder with Carroo is whether he’s doing poorly physically, or mentally. My guess would be mentally, because I recall they basically ran one play for him at Rutgers. He must be struggling with the playbook, his routes, etc.

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

after 2 years? it has to be physical or lack of exact route running skills, hands, speed, if he doesn’t know the playbook by now i’m sure he would have been dumped

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

or maybe he’s just caught in the depth chart, Grant is a different kind of Rec, a speed guy to take the top off D’s, he can get seperation which draws the safety, so his skill set is one we lack, maybe only Stills has his skill set.
Caroo’s skill set is abundant with Parker, Landry even Drake and the TE’s

  45. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Cutler played great, he is very accurate

  46. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

  48. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I can’t believe Grant didn’t make that catch late in the game to step on their throats, it hit him right in the hands, he has to make those catches.

    • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

agreed. it’s like when he seems overexcited on a kick return and drops it!

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

That was bad, but the Parker drops were worse to me, they were short passes right on the money. Grant was running full speed and he just didn’t come up with it, although he should have.

    Tampa!
We get screwed by the refs out of a win.
Tampa misses a late FG that would have beaten the Pats.
The division would be up for grabs otherwise.

  50. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

A realistic look at playoffs (geez, this is the dreaming after a two game win streak LOL):

    1. Fins must win out … 8-8 has no chance. It also eliminates Buffalo

    2. Titans 8-5 @SF (resurgent), vs Rams, vs Jax … A SF win really opens up both WC spots cuz Rams and Jax can both beat Titans.

    3. Ravens 7-6 hold tie break and have a cupcake schedule (@Clev, vsIndy, vsCincy). If we win out, Titans and Ravens control their own destiny as we eliminated Buffalo. I’m giving Ravens one of the WC spots.

    4. A 9-7 Titans with 7-4 Conf record would lose tiebreak to 9-7 Fins with 8-4 Conf record.

    5. AFC West… who do we cheer for in this mess to win the division so that we still win tie-breaks against the second place team? Hot team is the Chargers (@KC, @Jets, vsRaiders). Even though we would have head-to-head against the Chargers, a Fins ‘winning out’ also gives us head to head vs KC. Raiders (vsDallas, @Philly, @Chargers) could be out of it with loss to Dallas.

Chargers @ KC this week is a huge game for playoff “cheer scenario”. Whoever loses would be at a disadvantage against a “win out Fins team”. So the key to AFC West is just having Raiders lose one more game.

Conclusion: I think a “win out Fins team” can get past AFC West 2nd place team. Ravens need to shit the bed for us to pass them. That leaves the Titans as our realistic option for a “win out Fins team”. A SF upset of Titans would dramatically improve our chances. But even without the upset, we’d still have a chance if Titans lose to Rams and Jags.
It’s the NFL, anything can happen. BUT, winning out is the ONLY chance for the Fins. One loss and we’re done.

Every week is a playoff game for the Fins going forward.

  51. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

OH shit, I forgot… we own the head to head with Titans!!! We just need them to lose 2 of next 3. And if we look at their games… I don’t think they can hang with Rams or a Jags team that is much better than the first few weeks of the season.

  52. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

we should have beat tampa and the raiders both home games, that would make us 8-5 at this point

  53. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Last post before actually doing work:

Drafted players from recent drafts that seem to be contributing and could ‘stick’:

    2013: none
2014: James (1), Landry (2), Aikens (4), Fede (7) is still on the team
    2015: Parker (1), Phillips (2), Douglas (4), McCain (5)
    2016: Tunsil (1), Howard (2), Drake (3), Carroo (3), Grant (6)
    2017: we’ll see

Last night vs Pats, the 2016 Draft looked like a monster slam dunk!!

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Douglas ((2015) is off the team. Maybe you meant to say Tony Lippett?

I think in 2017 Godcheax and Tankersly have both shown themselves to have a future in Miami already

Harris & McMillan hopefully will start making impacts in ’18. Hariss has actullay been pretty good, he just doens’t have the sack numbers. But he is on the filed a lot and you can see the pressure he brings

It REALLY did my heart good last night when Gruden took time to notice that we were playing man-to-man almost all game… until the Patsies* started coming back late in the game. I’d been talking about this ALL season long (and y’all KNOW THIS!!!) and it was GRAND to see this positive change in the scheming of our CBs.

Ya don’t draft long, strong, jam CBs if ya utilize them in a predominantly zone scheme; zone CBs are to be quick, fast, and agile (and generally smaller, see Brent Grimes).

Had we been playing to our CBs’ strengths all season, our record would be CONSIDERABLY better, BET. Kudos to Matt Burke!

    Last 6 games without Ajayi:
    144.5 scrimmage yds/gm
    5.74 scrimmage yds/touch, 4 TDs

I hate to break it to “Matty I”, but we only have 2 rushing TDs all season. This is bogus.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Nevermind, I suppose he’s accounting for ALL TDs scored from the RB position. This is still a smear tweet regarding Ajayi. SMH

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Kenyan Drake has 2 rushing TD’s, and 1 receiving, and Damien Williams has 1 receiving TD. That’s probably what he was talking about

  59. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    M

I don’t know, or care for that matter, what Matty I’s agenda is. A comparison is in order though. So many people thought our team was doomed because we traded Ajayi, and it’s not even close to the truth. Drake is a doing a great job so far, I hope he can keep it up.

  60. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

When asked about the demonstration, Migo’s song was playing from a nearby speaker. “This song right here,” Landry said. “Take the air out the ball. Just so I can flex. This song right here! I’m not going to say the rest because you all are going to take that out of context again.”

“I’m taking the air out the ball!” Landry said. “I’m deflating it!”…

  61. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Mike E,

He’s a hater of Ajayi now that he’s been traded. His stats could EASILY be countered with Ajayi’s stats since the trade, but I’m not in the biz of getting into Twitter wars with the ignoramus.

I can’t stand folks who suddenly change their stripes after a player has been traded/acquired.

Example: “WOOOOOO! J-Train is the BEST RB in the league!!!” quickly turns into “I always hated that POS when he was on our team”. OR… “I hate that POS! he’s a dirty player!!!” quickly turns into “He’s the best player in the league!!! There was NO FOUL on that play!!!”.

That $#!t is just WACKO. Some people can’t be REAL, much less KEEP IT REAL. So instead of heaping praise on Drake, he throws Ajayi under the bus. Really nice and trustworthy individual.

I hear ya. I have to admit, while I don’t hate Ajayi, I find myself defending the trade of him pretty often, and I also feel he has to be partly at fault for us trading him. It’s not like he was a great player and teammate and all of a sudden, we decided we needed him out of here. He had to be driving Gase crazy, and if that’s the case, well, fuck ’em I guess. Ajayi was fun to watch, and I enjoyed rooting for him while he was here. Now that he’s gone, he’s the enemy to me.

  65. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I totally agree with M13 about people changing their stripes about Ajayi

    It drives me crazy too

From a point of view of offensive production we may be better without Ajayi
But Ajayi is a heck of a RB
Do we really have to rip into him

I think the play along without Ajayi has been a little more diverse
In first down we are passing more than we were with Ajayi
And it’s clear that in the passing game both drake and Williams are much better receiverers and blockers

I tend to think the fight btw Gase and Ajayi was more about fitting the style of offense we want to run more than anything else

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Do you really think so? If it was about that, wouldn’t Drake have been stealing playing time from him? I just can’t see it that way at all. I think there are two sides to this thing. Those that think Ajayi has some fault and was a big part of the reason why he was traded, and those that don’t. I put you in the latter, and me in the former

Raider game we were out of it…. We should have won the Tampa Game. That would have put us in a GREAT position.
    ________________________________________________

Both games were post Ajayi, in the Raider game we had like 15 rushes for minimal yards as so in the TB game, if we had Ajayi i think those games would have had a different outcome.
Williams was our starting tailback and he wasn’t getting the job done IMO.

seems like Drake maybe the man but i do think the jury’s still out on him, sure he breaks off some big runs but he also gets stuffed quite a bit.

  68. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Mike did you see Gray bust it up the middle from the FB position, i remember we had a discussion about this, He’s unstoppable in 3rd or 4th and one, that should be their short yardage bread and butter, not sure why they don’t use that all the time in short yardage or at least until someone stops it.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I did. I know they liked Williams for short yardage last season, and this season too, but he didn’t do very well this season. I like when they have Gray in there, even if he’s not getting the carry, I like his blocking.

  69. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

we tried a couple of runs to the left (Tunsil) side and looked like we ran into the entire defense for some reason Drake has better results to the right side

  70. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Agreed, we definitely have some pieces to the puzzle on offense, but TE and interior line must be upgraded this off-season.

I think the focus now with these 2 impressive wins in a row should be on Billy Price-C/OG in the 1st round. We are not going to be able to get Quinton Nelson at this point, which is OK, because I think Price will be able to start early and has more position flexibilty. …2nd round needs to be a TE, with another o-lineman and TE by the end of the 5th round. Also, throw in a RB and DE in the first 5 rounds and I’ll be happy. 😉

  72. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

ORob, you gotta let go of Ajayi. We list the Raiders game because of two ghost calls by the red. Drake is a better running back. Period. Drake is more Shady NcCoy. Ajayi is one dimensional.

The OL was did very little last night to help Drake. He was hit at or behind the line more often than not. Ajayi had the same problem, but lack the discipline to stick with the okay and the ability to catch passes.

If they keep using all their personnel in different types of formations this should be the result. Keep it going. Don’t stop.

      Right?

Was it really from pressure to just give to Ajayi and then all that’s left is bubble screens?

There were a solid 3 plays that were homerun play calls that they just missed on last night. Creativity is finally showing up as well.

And M pointed out the defense changed it up too with success against the #1 offense in the league.

Keep this thing rolling…..we’ve been here before and got burnt tho……get to Buf and hammer them!

I dont know how he wouldn’t be, he played nearly a perfect game against a very potent receiver. Also, don’t know if you guys noticed but they had him playing press-man the majority of the night, as were most of our DB’s, and he was also the island CB, they shifted him to wherever Cooks was. Thats either a huge level jump in respect from the coaches, or out of concern that Verner wouldn’t match up well with Cooks, or a little of both. Would have been interesting to know how they would have played it with Tankersly in there.

Ajayi is what it is and what it is, is over. How good Drake is shouldn’t be in comparison to Ajayi, Ajayi success of failure in Philly doesnt help or hurt us, not does it validate or invalidate the decisions to move on. There was something that wasnt working there and it resulted in a trade and the idea is we hope we see something with Drake that helps make that move not as big of a deal. Drake is better suited for our offense, and that’s not a slight against Ajayi, its just a fact that Gase is looking for back who is a good receiver and a decent blocker on top of his running ability and Ajayi was not known for either and was a more pure running back.

    Victory Tuesday!

Most enjoyable win of the season by a mile. Watched the game with all three of my boys and we borrowed a page from Eric Weddle a victory ice cream run at 10:00. Loved watching Brady get hit all game and throwing his little hissy fits. He always looks at the ref for a roughing call and pouts when he doesn’t get it. It warms my soul to see him struggle like that. Great to see our OL play a solid game against a crappy defense. Great to see Drake show some special ability and light it up. Great to see Howard excel in press coverage. Great to see us actually play press coverage and disrupt the quick timing routes for a change. Great to see Cutler look solid and play a great game. Great to see Landry establish himself as a must sign guy.

Loved it all. I wrote this team off two weeks ago and I’m hoping they keep proving me wrong. Three more wins and we are almost certainly a playoff team. It’s a longshot, but who the hell cares. Fun to watch.

  82. drg's avatar drg says:

Ajayi was a dumb trade, but maybe a necessary one. Still don’t like it, but at least we have Drake in the fold and Williams is solid too.

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

If they use that 4th rounder to move up and get an impact guy or even hit on it in the 4th, it’s a good move. I see the offense mmm moving better and it has some unpredictability to it that it didn’t before.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

he was a fifth round pick so was Jones. You can get great players anywhere in the draft. Draft position means nothing once the guys get to camp (except higher starting salaries)

  83. D's avatar D says:

Man that shit with Shazier is bleak. At this point im not hoping for the guy to make it back to football, i think it will be a gift just to know he wont have any paralysis in his future and will get to live a quality life. So fuck football, Im just hoping he survives this and at minimum will be able to walk again. This year has been a rough one for all teams and all kinds of injuries but this is the one that keeps parents pondering their decision, when their kid comes home and says “dad, i wanna play football”.

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

That stuff has always been happening. It’s truly sad to see, but it’s been going on forever. Thankfully medical response and technology has lessened the blow. Just gotta hope he recovers and lives a normal life. I agree with you that football shouldn’t even be a topic anymore about his future.

  84. D's avatar D says:

Thomas has been in the action more recently, and Gase likes him, but i cant see him being here next year. There is no way that he is earning his pay right now. He is slow, his routes are bad. His running is very plodding, and not fluid at all. The dude’s best years are def behind him. The 6.6 in cap savings can easily get another guy in FA, and it also could pay for the entire rookie class plus some. I dont see how that’s going to be a hard decision at all. Hell id be more likely to take a stab at the oft injured Tyler Eifert over keeping Thomas, and im pretty sure we could sign him and still have money left over, or a guy i wanted here since he left UF, Trey Burton. Both would give better production, although Eifert would be a Cameron like gamble to stay healthy.

I don’t think we have a realistic chance at the playoffs but I would love to see us win out and gain some momentum for next season

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t want to seem like a dick, but I don’t really believe momentum carries over in the least from one season to the next. We should be in better shape from the get-go if Tannehill is healthy all through TC and the preseason, we re-sign Landry, and we draft well, and either through FA or the draft, shore up the O-line, add another RB, and please-please-pretty-please, draft a freaking TE in the first 3 rounds.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It can make a difference to FA’s though, as they might perceive us as a solid team making the playoffs last year, and just missing them this year.

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

not disagreeing with you, but IF we win out, we have a very real chance,
because if we win out we will eliminate both Buffalo and KC in the process.
We own the tiebreaker with both the Titans and the Chargers.
And they both have rough games on the road.
If we fall to 8-8, we still have a tiny chance.
If we lose twice, we are doomed of course.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

But we will be fucked by the Ravens who have the tie breaker on us and a cream puff schedule. We need too many things to happen both Ravens and Titans need to lose

  86. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I just want to have a winning season. The playoffs would be a bonus. To make the Superbowl as a wild card would be amazing, but is unrealistic at this point. They shit the bed too many times earlier this year.

  87. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Naples

I didn’t say anything about winning out and our chances of making the playoffs, just that winning out and going 9-7 as opposed to 8-8, assuming we didn’t make the playoffs either way, wouldn’t make a difference as far as momentum into next season

  88. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That game last night was really good to see. Let’s hope some of the young guys continue to develop and some others clean up their games uh-hem Parker… Grant!

  89. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

I said earlier if they win out they will make playoffs. I have no resources to cite…..just my gut says so. I figure everything else will work out if this team wins 5 in a row…..

    Mike E:
I do believe young and developing teams can build off the momentum of a previous season. It’s all part of the learning how to win mentality. I don’t see us making the playoffs even if we win out. I want this team to be hungry next year. I think with a healthy Tannehill and couple of other pieces we should be a playoff team

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

I think we would of this year with RT17. Cutler is just now looking comfortable and RT17 would have started the season that way…. jmo as usual.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I agree. I think we would have won a couple of more games with a healthy and ready Tannehill from week 1

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Maybe even more than a couple of games. RT wouldn’t have had the Cutler rusty/getting up to speed situation. The defense was playing real well out of the gate when we weren’t scoring at all.

  92. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Drake did a nice in pass pro. I also like Gray as a FB/H-Back.

  93. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Man, we get a second round draft pick at LB who has a year studying the system. I can’t wait to see him with Harris next year. With Howard and Tank progressing and Lippett who was on the rise coming back we MIGHT be putting together a YOUNG talented roster that can be sustained thought a few seasons.

I WANT continuity. Please allow someone to build something here. the revolving door here since 19 freakin 80 has kept us mired in mediocrity. tear up the foundation again build something else, repeat. Please Gase be the one……convince me, because I was doubting you and still am.

  94. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I saw Grant out there blocking aggressively down field on some plays for other guys. Saw him standing a guy up who was like 6″ taller than him. The kid has heart.

if he was only 1/2 taller he could have plunged the dagger into the Pat’s heart last night. LOL

  95. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    from the dolphins website:
Defense delivers: The final score didn’t do justice to the performance of the defense Monday night against New England. The Dolphins allowed the Patriots only 248 total yards, more than 100 yards less than New England’s previous season low (371 vs. Kansas City in Week 1). The Dolphins held Tom Brady to a 59.5 passer rating, his lowest rating since October 2013 when he posted a 53.5 against the Jets. It was the eighth time the Dolphins held Brady to a passer rating under 70. The Dolphins’ two interceptions marked the first time in more than two years (Dec. 6, 2015) that Brady had been picked off twice in the same game. Perhaps the most impressive defensive stat was the Dolphins holding New England to 0-for-11 in third-down conversions. That came one week after they held Denver to 1-for-13. The two-week total of 1-for-24 is the best defensive showing in the NFL since 2009 (Jets, 1-for-25) and the second-best over the past 40 seasons.

    WHAAAAATTTT?????
The following is either the most chaotic and scary amateurish way to coach or the most cool and undefendable way to scheme the offense there is. What if our players start to romp and frolic?

  97. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

“We kept working on these packages with Grant and it just never flowed right in a game in a lot of the previous games where we weren’t getting the matchups we wanted and we were seeing coverages that were different than we thought,” Gase said. “I think this game it was more, ‘We’re going to put it out there.’ We accidentally kind of fell into a couple of them the last time we played them because we lost all the running backs. So we started putting him out there more and it just kind of got us thinking a little bit of, ‘OK, maybe we should just put him out there and let’s just see what happens.’ He can do so much and it kind of lets us play around with some things with him and Jarvis. And when you start doing the things where they’re in the backfield and then they’re all playing different positions and different spots, guys have fun with that. They like being able to do something a little creative so we kind of started doing that stuff.”

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

I’m thinking he means that they all get to do things out of what their normal position is.
      Well, except for Parker…..lol

    • Just keep this shit up and don’t go back to the same old mundane offense we saw earlier. We actually saw some creativity last night and it’s about damn time. With all the weapons this team has on offense it always pissed me off they didn’t utilize them more and create those mismatches in order to give them an advantage. Keep moving guys around and lining them up in different positions. Even if you don’t go to them, keep the defense thinking “wtf is this now?”

  98. I have to chime in because of some of the comments above because, well, it’s me. I don’t think we can speculate on how well or not well this team would be doing with Tannehill in there. Yeah, he wouldn’t have been as rusty as Cutler but we really don’t know for sure if things were the same with the offensive line blocking and the running game being what it was early on if his play would have make that much of a difference. IMO, Tannehill isn’t a difference maker. He doesn’t elevate the play of those around him on offense.

    • I mean, can we speculate that if Cutler had been with the team from the beginning of camp that we would be in a somewhat better situation? It is what it is unfortunately and we’ll never know. I’m on board with everyone who wants to see the season play out and hope for the best. Yes, I want to see the team win out instead of lose out for a better draft pick. If we continue to play like we did last night I’m all for it.

      • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Play calling was compromised imo….that’s enough for me to think it would have been a much better start with RT17 in there. Cutler isn’t raising anyone’s play…..
You are right, we can only speculate and we all are probably gonna have different thoughts on the matter.

And I never care about draft picks during the season. Win and screw it all up is fine by me!
