Well Dolphins fans, The Dolphins did what they do best, lose to the Bills when they need to win to stay alive. Yeah, the Dolphins still have a wanky outside shot of making it if they win, and a whole bunch of other crazy scenarios happen, but let’s face it, this team isn’t worthy. It’s OK, we were dealt some bad circumstances this season, and we did what we could to plug the holes, but it just wasn’t enough. We’re 6-8, and again well behind the Patriots, and the Bills who defeated us last week. All is not doom and gloom though, the future isn’t so bleak for this team.
Ryan Tannehill should return as the starting QB providing he’s healthy and fully recovered from his ACL injury, and we seem to have found a RB who can do it all, run-catch-block. At WR, until we re-sign Jarvis Landry, the overwhelming talent we thought we had may not be there. I thought our depth of Parker, Stills, Landry, Carroo, Grant and whoever was excellent, but Parker has disappointed big time, Stills didn’t really live up to his big new contract, and Carroo is like Claude Rains (The Invisible Man for the youngin’s), and Grant, while he has shown flashes of brilliance, may not be anything more than a couple of touches a game type player. It seems now we have to, and really should pay up for Landry, who brings it every week, and has been the good soldier this season w/o a contract extension. We’ve also seemed to have found a reliable K for a change, Parkey has been excellent, yet underused. Hopefully, we get what we need for the O-line, which would be an interior lineman that can not only start, but be better than average.
The defense is promising, as we get what is hopefully 2 key players back from injury, CB Tony Lippett and MLB Raekwon McMillan. Charles Harris will be bigger and stronger and have some NFL experience, and we’ll have T.J. McDonald for the entire season. Suh and Wake will be a year older, and maybe, at least in Wakes case, playing time should be cut back some, but Suh seems more than happy to play a ton of snaps.Do we need help at LB, where we have under contract for 2018 Alonso, Timmons, Allen, McMillan, and Anthony. We can’t really cut Timmons, his dead cap hit is almost his entire salary ($7.2M of $8.2M), but we can reduce his role if one of the younger LB’s show they’re ready. LB is definitely a possibility in the 2018 draft, but likely not a high priority. The 2 young DT’s we drafted made an impact, especially Davon Godchaux, who has played quite a lot his rookie year. Vincent Taylor to a much lesser extent, but he will get a look next year again as a depth player. The CB’s should be pretty good, and young, with Xavien Howard, Cordrea Tankersley, Tony Lippett, Bobby McCain, Walt Aikens and Torry McTyer.
The Chiefs managed to turn things around after going into a prolonged slump,. The Chiefs started 2017 on fire, and Alex Smith was being talked about as a league MVP candidate, but then RB Kareem Hunt apparently hit the rookie wall, along with losing S Eric Berry, and the Chiefs went from 5-0, to 6-6. They have won 2 in a row, and are now at 8-6, and the Chiefs are usually a tough beat at home at Arrowhead, but this season, the Chiefs are just 4-3 at home, not as dominant as in the past. We have a shot, but we can’t have Jay Cutler play as poorly as he did last week against Buffalo, and overall, the team will have to put forth a better effort.
As always, some of our fans will be rooting for a win, and some will be looking to the draft and hoping to improve our draft position. We’ll see if this team is still hungry for the playoffs, or if they’ve packed it in for 2017. Enjoy the game!

LOL @ “Carroo is like Claude Rains (The Invisible Man for the youngin’s)”….unfortunately though don’t see anything approaching a beautiful friendship. For sure next the next big chips to play in FA and the draft are going to be on O though…..but then we went for that depth on D last year.
Firstus
Or not
Well Rodgers helped me make it to the Championship game and I had to release Goff. Then had to put Rodgers back on IR because they shut him down for the season once they were eliminated from the playoffs. I then put him on IR and picked Goff back up. Crazy QB season for me. LOL
So do you start Goff or Keenum this week?
What about Kamara vs. Drake? Gurley is my horse so he’s starting.

wow. I didn’t realize McDonald was only 26 and we signed him to a 4 yr deal. He’s played decent for us since coming back and hopefully he keeps his head on straight and continues to improve for us.
Defensive ends Cameron Wake and Ndamukong Suh both were full participants after not practicing Wednesday; and DE Terrence Fede (knee) and C Mike Pouncey (hip) both were limited after not practice Wednesday.
Wide receiver DeVante Parker (ankle) and safety Michael Thomas (knee) did not practice for a second consecutive day; DE Andre Branch (knee), S T.J. McDonald (shoulder), QB Matt Moore (foot), CB Cordrea Tankersley (ankle) and RB Damien Williams (shoulder) again were limited; and LB Chase Allen (elbow) and DE Charles Harris (hip) were full participants for a second practice this week.

I think it’s really hard to get any kind of a feel for most of the guys playing this season. Even if Burke is the guy as the DC going forward it was his first year as the DC so we don’t know if it’s the players or him or what. Same goes for the offense. Some guys may not have seen the field much because Cutler didn’t have the time and maybe Gase didn’t want Cutler to take the time to try and develop chemistry with them and just tried to develop chemistry with the starters.
Thus, it’s hard to determine if anything we saw to this point is really an indication of any kind of evaluations they may have on certain players or if they just chose to forgo getting some of these guys involved due to the nature of the situation. It’s a shame to not develop guys in the offense because you had to bring in a qb from retirement and had to bring him up to speed as quickly as you could with the starters and didn’t have time for much else.
So, as for now we may see some changes with the older stop-gap veteran who were signed to short-term contracts but not much else.
VIRTUALLY NO ENTHUSIASM can be found in Tampa Bay for either the Fins or the Yucs last 2 games of the season. And with both of the Sunshine State’s “major league” baseball franchises GUTTED by ownership, there’s outright hostility and hatred toward MLB. Commissioner Rob Manfred can take baseball and stick it up his ass sideways, the SOONER THE BETTER!!–Those attending games (many of them) will be there ONLY TO PROTEST, ONLY TO CARRY NASTY SIGNS!! What a sorry state of things for this once great sport!!!
—————–
Thankfully, Tampa Bay has an NHL franchise that’s committed to winning. I expect the local hockey team to outdraw the Rays by a 2-1 margin this season (Lightgning have sold out EVERY home game this season!) It’s amazing what a hard salary cap can do for a franchise.
Tim
That’s a tough call on Keenum or Goff. Keenum has been bulletproof lately, and Goff is playing in Tennessee, so I’d have to side with M and say Keenum.
Did you catch my question yesterday? I have 4 very good choices at RB, but can only use 3.
Zeke, Shady, Kamara, Drake. I’m really considering goin g with Drake over Shady, I think the other 2 are must plays. Shady has been a must play too, but I worry about NE selling out to limit Shady.
Your opinion?
RIP Dick Enberg
He always came across as one really nice guy.
Yep, seemed like a first class individual. Old school.

Soooooo Draftnics, which TE should Miami take in the draft this year? Only Gray is contracted to be on the roster next year (other than Thomas who won’t be hear at 6.6M)
I say keep Gray and draft 2 new guys. I’m thinking 2nd round and maybe one of the 4th rounders. …Hurst, Andrews, Gesicki, Fumagalli, or Schultz.
If we end up keeping 4 TEs, bring back Fasano.
Fumagali from Wisconsin
He seems a little like Clay
I think more like Kelce
Piggy
How is Fumagali like Clay? He’s prototypical size at 6’6″ 248. He’s a little light, but he’ll put on some good weight. To me, that size is so important. Not a fan of the undersized H-back types like Clay. I want a TE that’s at least 6’5″, and hopefully, at least 250 lbs, so they’re not a WR playing TE.
^^^^^
No Tweeners
especially at TE.
I thought he was shorter
Settle down guys, it’s not even January, I haven’t looked into all these guys yet

Adam Breneman
Any one of these three would be NICE!!!
Josh Allen looking good early.
John Elway is on the sidelines watching Allen throw 3 1st quarter touchdowns.
Mike, that’s a tough call on your backs. You have to go with your gut. That’s what I would do. You seem to have that with Drake. You’re going to be pissed at yourself if he has a big game and you didn’t start him.
The 2nd or 3rd might be the rounds to target a TE. Some real good ones have been drafted in that range.
Every year, there’s a guy from NIU that captivates me. This year, it’s Jawuan Johnson, OLB. He’s a junior, but should he declare for the ’18 Draft, he should be on our radar. This kid can HIT, he’s FAST, and he led all FBS LBs in INTs for ’17.
The only knock on him is his listed size: 6’0″, 217. If can add 10-15 pounds, he’s an NFL LB. If not, he’s an NFL Safety. We could use a speedy LB with his ball skills and hitting ability. We’ll know soon if he declares…
https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-32-nfl-observations-week-15
Miami Dolphins: Rookie defensive tackle Vincent Taylor has only played 89 run defense snaps this year, but he’s sure made them count. Through 15 weeks, he’s produced 13 run stops, resulting in a run stop percentage of 13.5 percent, the best mark among rookie defensive tackles and the third-best mark among all players at the position this year.
————
The future looks VERY BRIGHT with both Godchaux and Taylor at the DT positions.
We really hit on those two guys in the 5th and 6th rounds. I think Allen as a UDFA LB was a nice find too. If we could only pull that off on the OL now we’re talking. LOL
Thanks MF13. That highlight reel was enough for me. LOL He’s the guy I’m hoping we draft this year.
Man, he looks fantastic. I was looking for a ballhawk LB and I came across a human wrecking ball… he’s the best of both worlds!
Dallas Goedert!
Oh, got ya! Thought ya meant Jawuan Johnson. Goedert ROCKS, too!
Tim
I’m struggling, because it’s a bad situation, because you take out a stud (McCoy), and put in a player who is becoming a stud, but plays for a team with a bad offense, and if KC pulls away quickly, Drake may be an afterthought. I know just about every person in that league, and they know how big a Dolphin fan I am, and they will think it was a “fan” move rather than a strategic move. Now of course, if Drake goes off and makes me look like a genius, it’s extremely rewarding, even more than winning with McCoy. I still haven’t made up my mind.
BTW – Are you going with Goff or Keenum?
Gonna be a last minute gut call.

We are 11 point dogs against KC. Sounds about right, but then the Chiefs have been almost as up and down as we have. Could be a game. Jets and Bills both beat them.
They haven’t been dominant at home this year either. I think 11 points is pretty high. Their defense has been very spotty, and if you can somehow limit Hunt, and put it all on Smith, they’re not nearly as explosive on offense.
I’d bet Dolphins against that spread for sure…..we can beat them at least. But they are strong in both rushing and defense. Not sure that is a good combo for us.
KC is 28th in defense YPG. 19th PPG
They have given up some yards — so my bad on that one. Must have been thinking about when I had them in FF…but then did drop them too, probably for that reason. But am convinced we can win this one.

Some guy named Rashaad Penny is running right now…
… and he’s pacing for 328 rushing yards on 2 mere carries…
Make that 460 yards on three mere carries… he just broke another one!
Drafting him would spell the end of Grant
Quenton Nelson is the kind of OL we need. A projected stud for years to come.
Wyo, I think Grant is finally becoming part of the offense and he’s doing better on returns. I think he’ll be on the team next year. Carroo not so much. Now if we can land a good young TE we might be on our way to some good stuff.
I’m just saying if you draft Penny you would be moving away from Grant.
He would basically take his place in everything
Isn’t Penny a RB?
I was fooling around and traded back twice to get more picks and focus on fixing the OL/TE positions but missed out on OG Nelson but think this would still fix things on that side of the ball as well as add some pieces to the D we are building:

Toledo playing a t 7 p.m. tonight. Can’t wait to see Woodside play.
Yep, going to watch that myself.
Just disappointed Cody Thompson won’t be playing because of his injury
Would you guys start Case Keenum at Lambeau with temps at 10 or less degrees tonight?
Wy, Rashaad Penny is a 5’10” 220 lb RB. I don’t think he would affect Grant’s status/position on the team at all.
Maybe he would effect Williams playing time if we re-sign him. I don’t get the Grant comparison either. Does he return kicks and punts?
Penny averaging 22.5 yards a carry on 8 carries. He won’t be there in the late rounds like “FirstPick” is showing.
Tim, Penny has only returned 2 punts in his college career but one was for a TD (go figure). He does return kicks and has 7 kick returns for TD in his college career. IMO, I think he would take Drake’s spot in KR and not Grant’s with Drake being our feature back now.
Okay that’s what Wyo is saying then – the return game. Maybe he would return kicks over Grant or be the other guy, but Grant is a different type of player as a speedster, PR and WR.
I’ve been thinking about QB’s in respect to this draft. There are quite a few with a lot of potential. There are a lot of NFL teams needing one. Not just the teams needing one now, but look at all the top QB’s in the NFL and look at how many are on the brink of retirement or done with their current team. These are teams, I believe, will be looking to draft one.
Browns (as always)
Giants (Even if they are not done with Eli, he is no spring chicken)
Bengals (Dalton has been flat out sucking & I think his backup is Colt McCoy)
Broncos (Say hello to Josh Allen’s new team, IMO)
Jets (Looking almost as much as Browns, LOL)
Cardinals (Palmer can’t stay healthy anymore)
Chargers (Rivers is no spring chicken and they have no real replacement)
Bills (They just don’t seem happy with Tyrod unless he is playing against us)
Ravens (Flacco is getting old and they don’t have a starting caliber backup)
Saints (Brees is 38 and backup Chase Daniels is no spring chicken)
Steelers (Big Ben already thought about retirement before this season)
Patriots (Puss boy can’t play forever)
Have my mancrush on Riley Ferguson and hate to think he might be in a Pats uni next year. He is in the same mold as Brady when he came out of college, tall, skinny but with an accurate strong arm.
Tim, yeah, Grant and Drake are both back on kickoffs. I think Penny would just replace Drake in that duty and take nothing away from grant.
Maybe it is Williams that looses out?
But I don’t think you could keep all 3 on the roster??
Why not? Williams is a core STs player, a really good receiving back and a solid backup. His cost should not be very much unless some team targets and overpays for him. Maybe 2 years 4M. He made 1.7+ this year on a tender offer.
Not sure we land Penny but I do think we’re going to add a back in the mid rounds anyway so I see Drake, Williams, a rook RB and Grant on the team next year. I like what I’m seeing from Grant lately on offense. He’s starting to think upfield on returns more as well as opposed to trying to create some lateral big play that isn’t there.

CONGRATS to #SDSU’s Rashaad Penny. He ends his college career with back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to back 200-yard games. #STUD
Dating back to 1976, Rashaad Penny (tied with 2 others) has the most career kick return TDs in college football. If we draft him, he’ll be returning kicks.
He also outweighs everyone else on this list by 20 pounds…
https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/leaders/kick-ret-td-player-career.html
Where do you see him being drafted? Is his competition level in college high level or middle of the road?
Last month, Penny was projected to go in the 6th Round… I said 4th Round. This month, he’s projected to go in the 4th Round… I say 2nd or 3rd. Much will depend on the Senior Bowl and his Combine.
Let’s just say his star is LUMINOUS right now… he’s no longer a hidden gem.
And to address his competition in college… some of his best games came against top Defenses, including Stanford and NIU (<– then #10 run-stuffing team in the nation). He checks the boxes on competition level.
A BIG part of NIU’s (then) #10 run-stuffing Defense is LB Jawuan Johnson (I posted this yesterday). You can see Johnson tackling Penny on this…
PS: NIU is STILL the #10 run-stuffing Defense in the nation, not just then when Penny ran on them.
Tim, what time is it?
In Australia or the northeast USA? LOL
LOL, it’s CASE KEENUM NIGHT IN AMERICA!!! 😆
I’m going with Goff. Game time temps at Lambeau at 10 or less, then at the half close to zero. People don’t do well in the cold like that. I see it as a low scoring game. But I could totally mess up with benching Keenan and Thielen. I have other projected good matchup options.
I’m going with:
QB Goff
RB Gurley
RB Kamara
WR Julio Jones
WR Smith-Schuster (A. Brown is out)
WR Agholor
K Forbath
DEF Bears (hosting CLE in cold and snow – low scoring game)
We’ll see if I’m right. It was not an easy call and I’ll know tonight if I f’ed up. LOL
What are Penny’s shortcomings that keeps him from being in that top talent category?
He comes from a small school, he only had 199 rushing attempts entering his senior season (thus, small body of work… BUT, very little wear on the tires), and he was relatively obscure up to this season.
Gee,
Penny has all those yards and Army’s qb goes 1 for 3 and Army wins 42-35. How the hell does that happen?
87 rushing attempts for Army will skew the stats like that.
College ball. 😉
Beyond “college ball”, that’s just what Army does… they run the ball ALL game. It’s their trademark.
Their starting QB has 40 passing attempts ALL season.
https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/army/2017.html
LOL @ M13 and Army stats. Air Force was like that too, are they still?
Pretty much! Not as bad as Army, but still bad.
https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/air-force/2017.html
Tim,
I’d expect Army to control the ground game, but shouldn’t Air Force control the air game? 😉
I know, always thought that was an oxymoron. LOL
I’m not changing a thing — a month-to-the-day later — regarding my ’18 Draft. However, it’s becoming clear to me that Rashaad Penny is going earlier than the 4th Round (svucks!). And I’ve got to say… Dallas Goedert, TE, South Dakota State, is REALLY growing on me.
First 2018 Mock Draft (11/23/17)
R1- Quenton Nelson, G, Notre Dame
R2- Mike Gesicke, TE, PSU
R3- Frank Ragnow, C/G, Arkansas
R4a- Rashaad Penny, RB/KR/PR, San Diego State
R4b- Marcus Davenport, DE, Texas-San Antonio
R5- STEPHONE ANTHONY
R6- Trevon Young, OLB, Louisville
R7a- Logan Woodside, QB, Toledo
R7b- (from Tampa Bay)- Christian Campbell, CB, PSU
With 2,248 final rushing yards on the season, Rashaad Penny ranks #5 all-time (since 1956) in a single season (surpassed Derrick Henry today).
https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/leaders/rush-yds-player-season.html
With 2,445 final total yards from scrimmage on the season, Rashaad Penny ranks #6 all-time (since 1956) in a single season (surpassed MANY today).
https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/leaders/scrim-yds-player-season.html
Note that he’s in some pretty elite company, here.
Do we really need to draft a RB anywhere close to the top half of the draft? I don’t see it as a big need. I’d go 3 or 4 other positions over RB, as far as need….especially if Drake ends up continuing to play this way. I’d rather draft 2 OGs before I drafted a RB…but that’s just me.
No… we needn’t draft a RB so early. When I originally mocked Penny to us last month, Drake had yet to break out and we had no running game after the Ajayi trade.
I’m going to have to find another diamond in the rough now that Penny is no longer a secret… and that can wait until later in the Draft.
No!
Please stop with Woodside he’s embarrassing himself against Appalachian State.
ROUGH game for Woodside. This’ll kill his stock.
There’s plenty of Running backs floating around with Drake breaking out we’re only looking for backups.
Is CJ Anderson signed for next year? Gase wants him if he can get him.
No he signed a 4 year match deal by Denver that we offered him in 2016 – 4 years $18M.
With the Ravens winning today, Miami can only get in as a #6 seed now. That means if we were to get in we would probably play either Jacksonville or Pittsburgh.
Oh if we play in Jacksonville I’m going.

#UCLA star QB Josh Rosen will sit out the Bruins Cactus Bowl game against #KState under doctors orders after suffering a concussion late this season, multiple sources have told me.
Pussy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All about draft status.
If your asking why Penny had just one year of production his name is Pumphry!
OK so I just walked in and am wondering how the Logan Woodside’s are getting beat 34-0?
David Williams, RB, Arkansas (transferred from South Carolina): 6’1″, 229, has run a 4.38 40-time. Projected UDFA. Pretty good pass-blocker. He sees very few touches per game, but he makes them count. 17.1 YPR, 5.6 YPC, and 10 overall TDs this year.
I don’t know WTF is going on with Woodside tonight… what an embarrassment.
Alright I made the right choice not starting Keenum (9) and Thielen (2) in that cold weather game. It’s funny I thought the Vikes might win this game 16-3 and they won 16-0. However I did start the Vikes kicker Forbath (10). My opponent had the Ravens DEF/ST (7) and Vikes RB L. Murray (6). I’m in good shape with 7 vs. 6. 🙂
Wow, I’m in trouble in FF. My opponent has Stefon Diggs and the Minnesota DEF. Diggs put up 17.30 points, and the Vikes DEF 15 points. He’s projected for 155 points. I have a really good team except for QB, I have QB Matt Ryan, RB Ezekiel Elliott, RB Alvin Kamara, WR DeAndre Hopkins, WR Tyreek Hill, FLEX either LeSean McCoy or Kenyan Drake, TE Austin Sefarian-Jenkins, K Robbie Gould (Zuerlein went on IR) and the Chargers DEF.
QB Goff
RB Gurley
RB Kamara
WR Julio Jones
WR Smith-Schuster
WR Agholor
K Forbath – 10
DEF/ST Bears
QB Brady
RB McCoy
RB Murray – 6
WR Fitzgerald
WR Woods
WR M. Thomas
K Butker
DEF/ST Ravens – 7
What say you?
What’s up with Matt Ryan and Julio Jones this year? They are a shell of what they were last season
If that’s your opponent’s team on the bottom, I think you should win. I decided to go with Drake, it’s done. I honestly wish I didn’t have that choice, because it’s a tough one taking out a stud like McCoy.
Game day!
GO PHINS
Looks a little chilly in KC
Highs in the high 20’s with some wind that will make it feel colder than that. Before last week would have said “hey Cutler is used to that from Chicago”…..but he dropped four snaps in Buffalo.
Chief’s inside linebacker Reggie Ragland was Drake’s roommate at Bama. “I gave him the nickname ‘Roadrunner’. I’m really happy for him. That’s my dog. We talk all the time.”
Let’s hope Ragland looks like Wiley Coyote today.
Merry Dolphins at Chiefs everyone!!!

M13, If we were to double down on TE, there is a good on in a Fasano mold from ND. TE Durham Smythe is a really solid blocker and good receiver. Does lack speed, probably a 4.8 40 guy. I think he is a bit under the radar cause ND has not used the TE much in the passing game this year. He’s 6’5″ 257. This is a good tape of his blocking ability:
Another on who could be there late and under the radar but more in a Charles Clay mold is Wake Forest TE Cam Serigne 6″3″ 240 lbs, probably a mid to low 4.7 40 guy. He is the ACC career leader in receptions and receiving yards by a TE.
Why the F does Landry have to pick a fight every time he is out there blocking. I like his aggressiveness but he is going to start getting some penalties from his BS after the whistle.
That was definitely a fumble and just as definitely not a recovery bull fucking shit not a recovery one foot in bounds
can you sue is good for a penalty every game
Good damage control by the D …
BB Mike,
Thanks for the above links. I’m pretty familiar with Smythe, but not so much with Serigne. Smythe is an excellent blocker, for sure!
Fasano tackles him for the first down!
🍺 to Rock
Nice assist by Fasano to get 1st down

Mike, yeah that’s my opponent’s lineup. Losing Antonio Brown hurt him. Then again I lost both Rodgers and Wentz and Beckham so you have to deal.
Good luck to ya Tim
Thanks Toba!
