2018 Season – Game 7 – Lions @ Dolphins – Fest Week!

This coming Sunday is not only another inter-conference matchup with the Dolphins facing another NFC North team in the Chicago Bears, it’s also the Fest game.  Dolphins fans coming from various parts of Florida, east coast, west coast, Canada, I mean this is epic.  I thought it was going to be ugly this past weekend, I will freely admit that, and that was before it was announced that Tannehill was out, and Brock Osweiler was in.  As it turned out, that may have been a good thing, because although I don’t believe that Osweiler is our answer at QB for this year and beyond, he undeniably brought a different mentality to the team, and the team responded.  How long this will last remains to be seen.  I strongly feel that Osweiler should Sunday against the Lions.  Over 400 yards passing, 31 points on the scoreboard, 3 TD passes (2 INT’s), and a big win when we really needed it.

It was a crazy game, and there was never a  scenario in my mind where we put up 31 points on the Bears, who sported a top 2 defense in every category.  They averaged 4.5 sacks per game through the first 5 games.  Much credit must be given to Adam Gase for figuring out a way to neutralize that, along with the O-line, and the QB Osweiler.  It’s also crazy that I feel our defense played pretty well, all the while allowing 28 points.  The turnover battle was even, we threw 2 INT’s and lost a fumble, we snared 1 INT and forced and recovered 2 fumbles.

Gore was tearing it up yesterday, he made his biggest impact so far this season with 15 carries for 101 yards for a heady 6.7 YPC.  Amendola settled into the “Landry” role, catching the short passes and trying to make the most of them.  Forget “Landry” though, it’s Albert Wilson who electrified this game.  He catches some of the same passes that “Landry” used to end with 8 or 9 yards and get brought down, but Wilson takes those for 50 + yards a pop.  Wilson and Amendola make “Landry” obsolete, so his name shall no longer be spoken here.

What a great pickup TE Nick O-leary has been.  Guy just comes in and plays football.  Need me to block, you got it!  Need me to catch it, you got it!  He’s pushing Gesicki down the chart, but this kid deserves it.  Kiko Alonso is playing great this year.  Doesn’t mean he still doesn’t have his weaknesses, but the things he can do he has been doing very well.  Kiko is probably going to top 130 tackles, he has 3 FF’s, 1 FR, and 2 INT’s.  Playmaker!  Reshad Jones seem to make a few big plays each game.   Even if he’s not actually getting the INT, he’s creating them.  Vincent Taylor hustling with a motor like a 440 six-pack!  That boy tracked down Trubisky and took him down!  Lots of things on defense that give you plenty of hope, and some that don’t.  McTyer was exposed yesterday.  It’s going to happen.  Let’s hope good ole Bobby McCain gets better quick.

Matt Patricia’s Lions are 2-3 in the NFC North, and this has not been a great season so far for QB Matt Stafford.  Usually, Stafford is one of the better QB’s statistically, but not this year.  The Lions have their own version of thunder and lightning, Kerryon Johnson is the lightning, LeGarrette Blount is the thunder. They basically have a 50/50 split in carries so far, Johnson averaging an impressive 5.7 YPC and Blount 2.5 YAACOD (2.5 yards and a cloud of dust).  The Lions have 3 WR’s that are dangerous, Marvin Jones, Kenny Golladay and Golden Tate.  Jones is like what Parker should have been here, Golladay is closer to Stills, and Tate is like their Albert Wilson. Their former TE Eric Ebron is now killing it in Indy with Andrew Luck.

As I mentioned earlier, I’d prefer to see Brock Osweiler start.  Here’s why.  I say this with no disrespect to Ryan Tannehill, but I feel like we need to run our offense very carefully in order for him to succeed, and I didn’t see any of that with Osweiler.  Not that he was a gunslinger throwing footballs all over Hard Rock, but it just seemed more free, less tense, and much less careful.  It’s just what I saw.  Osweiler looked calm, and in control.  He wasn’t perfect, he won’t be, but there was a different element I haven’t seen with this offense, something intangible.  Tannehill is probably not going to be much better, so it should be easy to just say Ryan isn’t ready, so we’re going with Brock.  See what happens.  If Brock flops, it’s just as easy to say the following week that Ryan is ready.  If Brock plays well, no fan will mind if he remains the QB, we’ve seen what Ryan Tannehill can do, nothing wrong with going an alternative, especially if we’re winning.

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone this week, and I hope the game can match the fun we’re going to have all week.

Oh, BTW, we’re 4-2, tied for 1st place in the AFC East.  Who woulda thunk?

Osweiler is a QB who has had limited success, and very publicized failure. I think part of the reason people are skeptical of him was the fact that he got that really big stupid contract from Houston with only a small body of work as a starter in Denver. His time in Houston wasnt good, and i dont know if it was the team they had (keep in mind, no QB’s did well there until Watson got there) or if it was just him, but he really hasnt had a chance to prove anything since then.

Sat meet-up is as usual. Sat 6-10, but no one is gonna kick us out either.

Just find the pool tables (straight past the front desk on the right) and set up your drink check. Some food will be set up and full menu will be available.

Great write Mike E, as usghe. But don’t write Gesicki off so quickly…. did you see that hurdle? Least showed why we drafted him. And, even if agree, good luck with this one: “Wilson and Amendola make “Landry” obsolete, so his name shall no longer be spoken here.”

Props to the Pig for posting the Baldy tweets about Tunsil. It sure does seem that Tunsil is FINALLY emerging as the player we drafted him to be.

And obviously, we found out last week what happens when Tunsil goes out… even for a little bit.

    Son,

I wish I could join you guys! It’s our fall break so I’ll be with the kids in San Diego this week. For sure will make it back one of these years.

I’ve never been a big Tannehill guy, but just about any decent QB would have looked great with that protection and effective running game. I don’t know how much RAC yards we had, but it had to be a big number. The big problem with Tannehill is what we are paying for him. Just like Suh, he doesn’t justify the cap hit and we can come very close to duplicating his production for a much lower number. Personally, I would much rather have Tannehill at QB for the rest of this season. I think he gives us a better chance to win as long as the OL play is good and he’s healthy.

Need to be drafting a replacement QB for sure. If Tannehill’s health and play improve all the better.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Hey drg – Your last few lines are exactly why I have no problem with Osweiler starting. We need to identify a backup, and suppose there’s still a chance that Osweiler can be the guy if he can clean some things up. Tannehill is what he is, but Osweiler still has potential to improve himself. Tannehill’s cap hit is prohibitive to keeping him, unless he comes back and really tears it up, which is unlikely.

    – Our Phins are now 12-0 during the Adam Gase era when we rush the ball 30 or more times in a game.

    – Adam Gase has rushed the ball 30 or more times only 5 times with Ryan Tannehill under Center during Gase’s tenure with our Phins.

Again, we very seldom give the kind of run-support for Tannehill as we did yesterday for Osweiler… the facts back up my claim. The key to victory is running the ball, and only 2 of these 12 instances were more than 1-score games (not blowouts… let that sink in).

I’ll wager a guess… Osweiler doesn’t have the authority to outright change the play at the LOS (I didn’t watch the game yet, as I had work all day yesterday). Thus, he probably had his play called to him over the headset, and he went to work.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I don’t envy Gase this week, making the decision as to who to start at QB. It won’t matter who starts if we lose… then everybody will be second guessing him, saying he made a HUGE mistake.

A decision is just that, something you have to make your best judgment on and then let things fall into place. —————————————–
My thought on this is that Gesicki’s lack of refinement as a blocker is whats hurting him right now because we need extra help on the OL in blocking. O’Leary is a good hybrid guy, capable as a blocker, capable as a receiver and that just is more of what we need. I think Gesicki still gives us a better receiving option, and i have seen at least two plays where he was being tackled before the reception and he still made the catch (also neither had a PI called on it, but i digress)

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

No one wanted a guy like Gesicki more than me, but took his lack of blocking as a given. More wondering why he is not in the passing game more. Even if at different positions, think he might be losing out on that cause Wilson and Grant have been looking good…. even if that doesn’t give a red zone answer.

  14. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Osweiler appeared to change plays, but what I liked more was how he was so decisive…and usually correct….in calling out the protections. Remember, he knows this offense very well, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he has the okay to change plays. Most QBs do.
    ***
That said, I don’t trust the guy. He’s been erratic as hell during his career. I don’t see him having games like that week after week….but you never know. I guess if Tanny can get better in his 7th year, Osweiler can get better too.

They also took a hot hand out to put Winston back in and They got have 5TD’s to 4 ints from Jameis since he has back and are 0-2 they were 3-1 with Fitzpatrick, 11 TD to 5 ints.

Now granted i know Fitz isnt the answer, but i think that was a dumb move.

    ——————————————————–
I think its because we have too much condifdence in Tannehill as a passer when we shouldnt. If we are passing more with him and not Osweiler then Gase is the problem because he is calling the plays and could just as easily call that same kind of game for Tanny.

Its not like we werent pass heavy too, we passed something like 44 times. 44/31 or 35/22 or 25/18…. 1.42, 1.59 1.39 ….past 3 games these are the ratios of pass to run and they are all right around the same. The big difference are the number of plays…. 72 plays combined vs 57 or 43. What this tells ya is Osweiler got them up on the ball and moved the offense. We had sustained drives that helped our defnse remain fresh in the second half while our offense burned their defense out in the second half. We got more opportunity to run because the offense was managed better.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Good post, D! That’s what I’m trying to figure out: is it on Tanny or is it on Gase? Seems to me that Gase has ZERO problems with the way Tanny has been running the Offense, with full authority to change the play. But yesterday with Osweiler, we ran a VERY efficient Offense.

    • D's avatar D says:

the three games before that 24/14 41/19 and 28/29…. looking at those number we arent neglecting the run, we just arent getting many freaking plays to run on. 1.71, 2.15 and 0.97. First three games all wins and 2 of the three had our worst pass to run ratio’s.

    ——————————————
You may be right bhe might not have had the complete change option, i heard him Omaha a few times and thats usually a switch from left to right on the call, but its the same play. If thats the case then Gase needs to treat Tanny like Osweiler and not let him completely change the play. Ill be honest, Heard has Tanny pegged, he isnt football smart and you cant let a player who isnt football smart go in and completely change things around, thats reserved for students of the game.

    • D's avatar D says:

      Herd, not Heard….sorry Herd

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I don’t know that Tannehill isn’t “football smart”. Actually, I think he’s VERY football smart… and apparently, so does Gase. However, I’m thinking he’s nothing more than a game-managing QB like MR. Pennington before him. And clearly, MR. Pennington was leaps and bounds better than Tanny.

M – We had 128 yards rushing against the Bengals, so not like we didn’t give Tannehill a balanced offense…
    ————–
Cat, it’s not necessarily about the yardage, it’s about the attempts, so as to keep opposing Defenses guessing as to what we’ll do next. In a week-to-week game, it’s all about the match-ups.

Now I’m not saying that yardage doesn’t count (not at all!), but the idea is to have a balanced Offense, to keep opposing DCs guessing, man. We can’t ever be 1-dimensional. Even DAN THE MAN couldn’t get a ring, being he never had a legit running game to backup the greatest single season a QB has ever had in ’84… and a legit Defense, to boot.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

M – 31 rush attempts with OT last week, 22 against Cincy w/o OT. Not that different, in fact 8 attempts were in OT, so almost identical. It’s just perception, because we had more success and of course we won.

I’m with Mike that Osweiler isn’t the answer but he may be a short term(2-3 game) answer. That was by far the best our offense has looked this year. I loved that Osweiler wasn’t afraid to just throw the ball away multiple times. I also agree with Porf. Lou that teams just crowd the box because they know Tannehill won’t punish them or has difficulty moving in the box.

I looked up the 2016 season, and Tannehill really is no different. Good sometimes, bad sometimes, and a non-factor sometimes. My expectations have just went up though. Seeing guys like Mahomes, Trubinsky, Darnold, etc play shows me that a new guy can quickly match our 7 year guy’s potential and honestly, overshadow it.

Moving beyond the QB,I really like our defense. Some solid pieces and Tunsil was a stud yesterday.

A statistical anomaly for sure, considering I don’t have any Miami Dolphins on my roster (except Drake, who I sat this week), but every time the Dolphins win, my FF team wins also, and conversely, when the Dolphins lose, so does my FF team. Strange, eh?

    Mike,

I feel like everyone is jumping ship on Tannehill and overreacting a bit too much. When healthy, he’s a top 20 QB. Without good protection he’s going to struggle. He won’t extend many plays and doesn’t evade pressure well. Surround him with talent and he’ll get the job done on a consistent basis.

I don’t feel that way about Brock or any other QB on our roster. It’s time to use a high pick on a QB and let him develop behind Tannehill. Odds are we will end up with someone similar or worse than Tannehill, but that’s the process. Think of all the future franchise QBs that are now struggling or average…. Carr, Mariota, Foles, Winston, Dak, etc… I wasn’t very impressed with Trubisky yesterday, either. There are so few QBs that transcend the level of talent around them. It takes a lot of luck to find one.

drg – I think it’s more than just surrounding Tannehill with talent. If that talent, and I mean just about all of them don’t perform to their fullest, and we need to rely on Tannehill to do something a little extra, it seems like the wheels fall off. Do you really believe he’s capable of winning a 43-40 shootout against the Chiefs? I don’t know If we really know enough about Osweiler to say he’s not the guy, and can’t be the guy, but if he plays like he did this past week, I’m not pulling him until he lays an egg. If Tannehill isn’t the future beyond this year, I don’t see any downside to running with Osweiler until he fails.

I was recently introduced to the music of “ABC”, the early 80s music group. I’ve heard some of their hits on the radio, but never knew about THIS song. It’s GREAT, IMO!!! Very similar to my production style, with keys, strings, and a dope beat (beats are the percussion in the music biz, not the instrumentation like so many think it is).

    Anybody familiar with this one?!!

  31. D's avatar D says:

Game 1 0.97 pass to run = W, Game 2, 2.15 pass to run = W. Game 3 1.77 pass to run = W. Game 44 1.39 = L Game 5 1.59 = L game 6 1.42 = W (but almost lost). Our run ratios were actually better in the past 3 where we have stunk in all but the last one, than two of the three W’s we have had. To me that doesnt show a pattern that says that the running game is all of it. Look at this pattern though. 67 plays on offense W, 60 plays on offense W, 38 plays on offense W (though this one we had a bunch of chunk yard plays including that trickery pass from Wilson). 57 plays L, 33 plays L and 73 plays W. When the offense moves the balls and sustains drives we win, when we 3 and out a bunch we lose. I mean thats kind of common knowledge, but thats what these number say more than a certain ratio of runs gets us a win. It looks to me its a certain ratio of runs, means we are controlling the ball, but it also takes a QB to get us those 3rd down conversions.

We had almost 50% 3rd down conversions this game with Osweiler, 8-17, 47%, 23 total first downs. Tanny’s best game, our best game previous to that, was the Jets game and we were 6-13, 46%, with 18 total. We have been hovering around 20-30% conversion all the other games.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We’ve had a good 3rd down conversion rate on 3rd and 6 or less, but when it’s over that it’s not very good.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yeah, good point on the 3rd downs, Osweiler was pretty good with that, against a very good defense that we totally neutralized.

  32. D's avatar D says:

DRG, its not a jumping ship on Tanny, its been a long drawn out breakup. We have done this song and dance for year after year, Well minus 2017 when he didnt play, but you get tired of making excuses. I get this might be an anomally, but the fact that the very first game a backup plays, against a top 5 defense, with a massive pass rush and there are 0 sacks and only a handful of pressures? This is the same OL that Tanny had for most the Bengals game, this is the same OL he had for all of the NE game, and neither of them are rated higher than the Bears are. Is it jumping ship or is the ship just dead in the water and people wanna move forward?

    • D's avatar D says:

The best passing game we have had….this last one. The best 3 down conversion ratio…this last one. I dont think those are things you ignore if you want to be unbiased.

Yeah, lots of teams struggling to find TE’s, we found a good one, especially with Derby banged up. Unfortunately for Smythe, it will really cut into his playing time now.

I think both of the rook TEs need some development time. TEs have a lot of responsibilities. I’ve heard coaches say many times that it’s not an easy position to play. In time Gesicki and Smythe will be a bigger part of the offense.

And probably better for his long-term health.

  39. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That INT at the end of the first half was under thrown to the inside. Brock should have throw it more towards the corner of the endzone. I don’t put that one on Parker. Sure we could have set up for the FG but I don’t mind trying to go for a big TD there and go into the half up 14-0.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Completely agree. They can say Parker allowed the defender to push him to the boundary, but that’s where he was, and Osweiler has to throw it accordingly. Parker never had a chance to make a play the way I saw it.

Nothing about this game was conventional. It was wild in so many ways. Remember we were down 21-7 in a blink of an eye in the 3rd quarter. The plays by Wilson were extraordinary.

  43. drg's avatar drg says:

    Mike, D,

One game is way too small of a sample size to jump to that conclusion. It was all love for Tannehill after the first three games. I’m not trying to say Tannehill is a franchise QB. Just saying he’s a decent QB and we have won a lot of games with him starting under Gase. Brock played a good game yesterday, but other than maybe one or two good throws, what did he do incredibly well? Setting up blocking assignments and staying in the pocket? There’s a reason he has moved on from two teams desperate for a QB. He’s not the answer. I doubt Tannehill is either.

If I’m the GM, I explore trade options for Tannehill in the offseason. Maybe we can get lucky and score a 2nd round pick for him. Draft a new QB and sign a placeholder QB for cheap. We could also ride out his contract and develop a guy behind him.

The real story to me is that Gase seems to be capable of winning football games despite average QB play. Cutler was a cancer last year and the team played like it. I love the attitude of this team. They battle and are a tough out at home. Would love to see the offense show the ability to put up 40 points one of these days, but we likely need a new QB to accomplish that.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

That’s fair drg, except one thing, and please take this into consideration. The 3 wins were against a lower quality opponent, The NYJ, TEN and OAK who has completely unraveled. Once we faced a quality opponent like NE, it was over. Despite the fact that we were beating Cincy through 3 quarters, once we needs Tannehill, he crawled into a shell and died on us. This doesn’t inspire ANY confidence for me that he can rise up to beat a quality team. If that’s the case, why bother? That’s just how I feel drg, if he ever shows me he can be the man and beat a good team without-every-single-thing-being-perfect-including-the O-line-no drops-no fumbles-and great defense then I’ll say OK, he can be our QB.

  44. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

  45. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Had anyone — other than Gase — thought that Jay Cutler was going to save our season last year? The funny thing is that Cutler had essentially put up the same numbers that Tannehill had, the year before.

So you’ve got some guys saying that Cutler was a bum last year, while at the same time thinking that Tanny is our savior. HUH??? SMH!

And now that Osweiler had 1 good game yesterday, some former Tanne-holics are now questioning Tanny… and that extends to Adam Gase.

Look, I’m not even trying to be a d!ck here, but WHY??? I’m not even trying to point the finger at Tannehill. I’m not even trying to say that Osweiler is some kind of stud (he’s not). I AM, however, asking questions about Gase’s play-calling.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Did you watch the first 3 games? The pass pro was excellent week one. Then we lost Sitton and it was a little shaky against the Jets at times but not bad. It was solid in the Raiders game. The Pats game was a total team collapse and we all know what happened in the 4th quarter in Cincy. People are making so many assumptions about Tannehill because of the Cincy loss. Everyone seems to forget Tannehill had a 122 passer rating after the first 3 games and then people who aren’t fans of him to begin with pounced on him after that bad 4th quarter. I’m not playing that game though. 😉

  48. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Gase is a Tannehill fan and that’s all you really need to know. He believes in him and they will win or lose together. Off one solid performance by the backup QB especially off of two losses it’s a common thing amongst fans that the backup QB is the most popular QB. Happens all the time. LOL

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Let’s not forget that after 3 quarters we were down 21-13 so it wasn’t like were lighting it up all day. Like I said earlier the plays by Wilson were extraordinary. If he doesn’t make those “two” plays we lose in regulation.

    Mike,

I didn’t watch the Cincy game, so hard to say. Wasn’t he injured during the game? And all the teams are pretty much the same these days. We have two wins against 3-3 teams and lost on the road to a couple of division leaders at 4-2. Chicago isn’t some powerhouse team. They’re probably on the same level as Tenn or NYJ and we are a tough team at home. Wouldn’t be surprised to see us beat the patsies at home this year. We sucked at NE this year, but it happens. Nobody wins there and just about every team has a few embarrassing games every year.

After week 3, Tannehill was 10-1 in his last 11 games, right? That’s pretty damn good even if we don’t think he’s the answer. Everything doesn’t need to be perfect for him, but he does require a clean pocket to be good. Most QBs do. Finding one that doesn’t is the real trick.

Again, I’m not arguing that Tannehill is the guy. Never have. Just saying that he’s the best option for us at this point if his shoulder heals up. I also don’t feel like he’s really any worse or better than at least half the starting QBs in this league. It’s just the situation we find ourselves in and there really aren’t many other options.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Good post! I don’t think the Bears are a great team, but their defense had shown to be very good until yesterday. We had a great game plan for pass pro and I was surprised that we could run on them. But if not for those two plays by Wilson, we likely lose. We had a solid drive for the 1st TD and the OT drive that Drake fumbled at the goal line was the best drive we had all day. Other than that, we didn’t do much other than not let the game get out of hand so a few big plays could win it. You couldn’t predict how that game went down, it was wild. I was losing my mind at what I was watching. LOL

Tim – I will always root for Tannehill to succeed, I like the guy, but I just don’t think he can ever be our savior. I think the way the NFL is going these days with high powered offenses, we need to keep up with the Jones’s and find a QB like that.

    ———————–
In his postgame presser yesterday Brock was asked why he came to Miami. His answer was “had a number of other visits planned but once Gase called told my agent to cancel them cause I wanted to play for him and got right on the plane.” Also stressed he knew this offense well before he stepped foot in So. FLA. Put in a bunch of other “Gase is my man” lines as well.

That’s Gase’s call and I will root for the team and any player that is playing in the game. I was saying atta boy Brock often yesterday. I’m glad he played well. Most fans here thought he sucks and didn’t even want him here. Gase believes in him as well and that’s why he’s been #2 all season. However I do find it funny when a backup plays a good game and so many people think he’s the one off one game. It happened with Matt Moore too than he’d play poorly and everyone would jump ship. LOL

Tannehill has shown to be an efficient QB you can win with. He can also make plays with his legs. He’s not great, he can be efficient and have some very good games. We all know who he is, he can play very well for a stretch, then some meh games, then have a couple of bad games and/or moments. I thought Osweiler played well yesterday but nothing special. A lot of our playmakers made some great plays. It was a crazy game and an unexpected one especially against that Bears defense. But that just goes to show you how crazy this league is. There is inconsistency with so many teams and so many bizarre games. There are only a couple of teams that look really good this year. The Rams being the best and then KC but they don’t have a good defense. Everyone else is very up and down. Even the Saints at 4-1 have looked ordinary in some of their wins.

Let’s hope whoever starts at QB we keep winning enough games to make the playoffs.

I think RT is more accurate and throws a better deep ball, while Osweiler has better pocket and field awareness. Osweiler is more willing to sling it, RT is more cautious. Both are prone to bonehead throws on occasion. Both understand the offense. With a sample size of one game, on is probably as good as the other, but a one game sample is too small. All of that blathered, I think you ride the hot hand.

M – ORob didn’t face a barrage because he wanted to run the ball. No one disagreed that running the ball was key. ORob got his balls busted because of his fantastical statistical method of determining Which RB was better as a starter. I even took back everything about I said about his choice of Gore a couple of days ago after the the Gase interview about why Gore was getting more carries. ORob’s stats are fantastical, but he was right about who should be starting. Sometimes you say shit just to get validation for posting.

The running game is what surprised me against the Bears defense. We max protected a lot of the time in the passing game. But as I pointed out earlier, as awesome as the finish ended up being, we only had 13 points into the 4th quarter until Wilson put on a show. So I do think some are exaggerating how the offense looked all day. The best drive was our first TD and the OT drive where Drake fumbled on the goal line. Other than that we still sputtered a bit.

Two drives that ended in FG’s in the 3rd qtr were key in us being able to stay in the game. We almost never kick FG’s it was actually quite refreshing to see.

We talked about that at 21-10 just gets points here even a FG which we did to keep it a one possession game. Then we said now let’s get a TO and we did. We were in danger of this game getting out of hand quite a few times. But guys kept making plays. I like our defense too but we still have some stuff to clean up there as well. But they have been very opportunistic with getting turnovers. We had 15 turnovers last year. We already have 14 this year.

I was a fan of the signing from the get go. He was a 4th option in the KC offense but he was a playmaker. Great signing for us. He’s been better already than I thought he would be though. He’s a super weapon and we’re figuring out to utilize him. We have so much speed on offense. I can’t wait until it all really starts to come together.

Tim – While I agree with you the offense wasn’t great all day, wouldn’t you rather get it going in the 3rd and 4th quarter for the win, rather than play a good first half like we did against Cincy, and then unravel in the 4th with the game on the line?

Sanders kicked 3 FG’s yesterday after having kicked only 3 for the first five games of the season.

Naples — what hotel are you staying in? If one of the ones on Hollywood Beach it ain’t all that far and traffic is pretty light getting in. Way out from the stadium is when gets backed up.

Yeah when I went in 2015 getting out really sucked and the fact they closed off so many local streets made it worse. It took us about 30 minutes to get there from Hollywood. It took us well over an hour to get home. It probably took 40 minutes just to exit the stadium.

Oswieller had a lot of success throwing to O’Leary. O’Leary played it perfect too and didn’t get out too soon to allow a free rusher but he got out quick enough so he became a target. All of the throws to O’Leary were on target and allowed him to turn upfield to gain yards.
I like having Golden Bear blood on the team. I remember saying I wanted us to draft him.

  98. bat's avatar bat says:

Osweiler has the presence of mind to throw the ball away when the situation deteriorates. Hennehill feels pressure and either backpedals into a strip sack or freezes in terror as a DL caves his chest in. No way we win that game with Hennehill. Nothing to lose by riding Os for now. He’s clearly the best of our poor options. Maybe someday this team will seriously address the QB position.

  99. many of us have been clamoring for a run game. I’ve been wanting a powerback type like Gore for along time.
The run game is vital to our success, every Dolphin fan knows how we went undefeated. The formula still works today, but obviously new rules have opened up the passing game much more

Run the ball, control the clock works in any era, then take shots down the field.
Bend but don’t break physical defense that creates turnovers is the perfect compliment for a ball control, yet with big chunk passing yards mixed in offense that is efficient and high scoring.
