2018 Season – Game 7 – Lions @ Dolphins – Fest Week!

This coming Sunday is not only another inter-conference matchup with the Dolphins facing another NFC North team in the Chicago Bears, it’s also the Fest game.  Dolphins fans coming from various parts of Florida, east coast, west coast, Canada, I mean this is epic.  I thought it was going to be ugly this past weekend, I will freely admit that, and that was before it was announced that Tannehill was out, and Brock Osweiler was in.  As it turned out, that may have been a good thing, because although I don’t believe that Osweiler is our answer at QB for this year and beyond, he undeniably brought a different mentality to the team, and the team responded.  How long this will last remains to be seen.  I strongly feel that Osweiler should Sunday against the Lions.  Over 400 yards passing, 31 points on the scoreboard, 3 TD passes (2 INT’s), and a big win when we really needed it.

It was a crazy game, and there was never a  scenario in my mind where we put up 31 points on the Bears, who sported a top 2 defense in every category.  They averaged 4.5 sacks per game through the first 5 games.  Much credit must be given to Adam Gase for figuring out a way to neutralize that, along with the O-line, and the QB Osweiler.  It’s also crazy that I feel our defense played pretty well, all the while allowing 28 points.  The turnover battle was even, we threw 2 INT’s and lost a fumble, we snared 1 INT and forced and recovered 2 fumbles.

Gore was tearing it up yesterday, he made his biggest impact so far this season with 15 carries for 101 yards for a heady 6.7 YPC.  Amendola settled into the “Landry” role, catching the short passes and trying to make the most of them.  Forget “Landry” though, it’s Albert Wilson who electrified this game.  He catches some of the same passes that “Landry” used to end with 8 or 9 yards and get brought down, but Wilson takes those for 50 + yards a pop.  Wilson and Amendola make “Landry” obsolete, so his name shall no longer be spoken here.

What a great pickup TE Nick O-leary has been.  Guy just comes in and plays football.  Need me to block, you got it!  Need me to catch it, you got it!  He’s pushing Gesicki down the chart, but this kid deserves it.  Kiko Alonso is playing great this year.  Doesn’t mean he still doesn’t have his weaknesses, but the things he can do he has been doing very well.  Kiko is probably going to top 130 tackles, he has 3 FF’s, 1 FR, and 2 INT’s.  Playmaker!  Reshad Jones seem to make a few big plays each game.   Even if he’s not actually getting the INT, he’s creating them.  Vincent Taylor hustling with a motor like a 440 six-pack!  That boy tracked down Trubisky and took him down!  Lots of things on defense that give you plenty of hope, and some that don’t.  McTyer was exposed yesterday.  It’s going to happen.  Let’s hope good ole Bobby McCain gets better quick.

Matt Patricia’s Lions are 2-3 in the NFC North, and this has not been a great season so far for QB Matt Stafford.  Usually, Stafford is one of the better QB’s statistically, but not this year.  The Lions have their own version of thunder and lightning, Kerryon Johnson is the lightning, LeGarrette Blount is the thunder. They basically have a 50/50 split in carries so far, Johnson averaging an impressive 5.7 YPC and Blount 2.5 YAACOD (2.5 yards and a cloud of dust).  The Lions have 3 WR’s that are dangerous, Marvin Jones, Kenny Golladay and Golden Tate.  Jones is like what Parker should have been here, Golladay is closer to Stills, and Tate is like their Albert Wilson. Their former TE Eric Ebron is now killing it in Indy with Andrew Luck.

As I mentioned earlier, I’d prefer to see Brock Osweiler start.  Here’s why.  I say this with no disrespect to Ryan Tannehill, but I feel like we need to run our offense very carefully in order for him to succeed, and I didn’t see any of that with Osweiler.  Not that he was a gunslinger throwing footballs all over Hard Rock, but it just seemed more free, less tense, and much less careful.  It’s just what I saw.  Osweiler looked calm, and in control.  He wasn’t perfect, he won’t be, but there was a different element I haven’t seen with this offense, something intangible.  Tannehill is probably not going to be much better, so it should be easy to just say Ryan isn’t ready, so we’re going with Brock.  See what happens.  If Brock flops, it’s just as easy to say the following week that Ryan is ready.  If Brock plays well, no fan will mind if he remains the QB, we’ve seen what Ryan Tannehill can do, nothing wrong with going an alternative, especially if we’re winning.

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone this week, and I hope the game can match the fun we’re going to have all week.

Oh, BTW, we’re 4-2, tied for 1st place in the AFC East.  Who woulda thunk?

Tate is possibly the best 3rd down slot receiver in the game. If we want 3 and outs on their side we need to shut that guy down. He is one of the best at moving the chains

Well, that’s our normal start. …3 and out and then fall behind.

Quandry Diggs is a STUD. He’s another guy we should have drafted.

  16. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Speaking of studs… KIKO!!!

  17. Three and out, punt, followed with a nice punt return, let’s go offense, we need 7 here!

  18. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Gotta take some shots deep. The Lions are smothering us in underneath coverage. We’re once again being far too predictable.

  19. Nice punt and down placement, another three and out and we should be in great field position.

  20. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Slow start on offense is nothing new. Let’s go defense!!!!

  21. We need a turnover, Minkah pick six would be nice 😎

He’s both. I just get a kick out of all the guys you think we should have drafted. I’m good with Minkah. 🙂
    ————–
    HELL YEAH on Minkah!!!

I wanted Quandry Diggs to be our nickel CB in the ’15 Draft. I think he’s better than Bobby McCain.

  23. We need a turnover bad since we can’t tackle

  24. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

With a few exceptions, it’s like we are never really prepared to play in the 1st Q, usually the entire 1st half.

  25. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Great stop by Spence!

  26. It’s a crap start, but the game is still Young, we need to try and get 10 before the half and it’s a new game

M13, Bobby McCain is a starting CB. 🙂

  28. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Oh SHIT… Albert Wilson is down!

I really hope that isn’t an Achilles with Wilson.

Looks like Sony Michel just got messed up against the Bears.

  31. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Gesicki sighting! 27-yard gain!

  32. That could be a very costly penalty for lions, lol

  33. How do we screw up a first and goal at the four, damn, let’s punch this one in guys!

  34. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

This Offensive playcalling is getting BAD.

  35. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

    Stills hurt too…

  36. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Going to be Amendola and Grant left at WR. LOL

  37. Kenny Stills, our somewhat underrated WR who keeps making clutch TD,s when we need them

  38. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

GREAT throw by the Osweiler to the Stills!

Now get that wall moved back from the back of the endzone. Poor security lady got messed up.

  39. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Damn our WRs are going down.

  40. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

That fucking wall is too close to the field. And why are security standing 2 yards out of bounds?

  41. We need to play some run defense now, lions OL are manhandling us

  42. Stills hit that wall before, he runs so fast needs emergency brakes, lol

  43. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Dam you, Cordarrelle.

  44. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Andre BRANCH!!!

  45. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Seems the Lions have discovered our soft-zone coverage, utilizing their TEs.

  46. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We need some major half-time adjustments. We look kind of unorganized. Maybe we can get some type of quick score before the half.

  47. That one hurt, the last 2 lion drives were almost uncontested, we have to play much better defense to win this one,
We need to create turnovers, cover better, and tackle once in awhile. We need to Get off the blocks and make room to make plays. We can’t fill the run lanes stuck to blockers.
So many breakdowns on defense,,, SMH

  48. The guys at the fest arent rooting loudly enough, cmon guys! Lol.

  49. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well at least we can’t blame Tannehill. LOL

Or can we, because he’s hurt and not helping the team out there. 😉

  52. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’ll take that VERY ticky-tack call on Frank Ragnow to nullify the TD. Still, they kicked the FG.

    Offense… WAKE UP!!!

  53. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The defense with another red zone hold to a FG. Let’s go offense, or Grant on the return. 🙂

  58. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Did you notice on the incomplete to Drake on the play before the DB knock his one hand away from catching that ball? Is that just let them play or what?

  59. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

We don’t need fucking Tannehill we need Touchdowns

  60. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That was a very poor 2pt conversion play for the Lions. Okay guys, make it a one possession game.

  61. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We need a big defensive stop or turnover.

  62. It went down as an 8-yard touchdown run in the box score, but in reality, Mitchell Trubisky nearly covered the length of a football field with his scramble and score Sunday against the New England Patriots.

I’m sorry, but Matt Burke is calling one HORRIBLE game for our Defense.

  71. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yikes!!! We need a block… and maybe a return for a TD. 🙂

  72. This is one of our worst defensive efforts in awhile, Johnson has 158 yards on 19 carries for starters, but we couldnt stop the pass either

  73. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Looks like Parker will finally get to play next week.

  74. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well that’s that. Not a good game in many phases.

  75. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Our team is SAD

  76. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

David, stop with the Landry nonsense. And Suh! We went 6-10 with both of them twice. They are not worth $40M per year. LOL

  77. That was likely our afc east chances going steeply south. Historically We aren’t great at playing catchup to the cheats. We have to match their wins, and beat them in Miami to have a chance

  78. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

fuck the Miami Dolphins I’m done goodbye all

  79. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Ugly defensive game. No matter how our offense plays, letting another team score 32 will usually lose the game. Offense didn’t look great either. We still have to play GB, Minnesota and Pats again but otherwise, the rest of the schedule looks winnable. 10-6 would be far beyond what I imagined after game 5. Let’s see if the new culture gets us there,

In other news, we need a better FO. The below average guys are never gone early enough or with decent compensation. Our drafts don’t turn out enough talent either.

  80. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

We gave up 248 yards on the ground today… against the LIONS. SMH

  81. Im not in charge of saving money for Ross, and don’t feel sorry He has to pay expenses.
My calculator doesn’t go that high, lol. I just want the team to retain top talent, and don’t really care if the billionaire has to write a larger check or not. Ross money is of NO concern of mine, he has more than all of us combined and a few mil here or there is irrelevant to Me, but relevant to team success. Going cheap isn’t a super bowl winning strategy

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Brah, this isn’t the NBA or MLB: there is a SALARY CAP in the NFL. Thus, it’s not about Ross not wanting to spend money. The last CBA mandates that every team MUST spend to 91% of the maximum cap $.

      • I understand the cap, we are under it every single year, we are undercap annually.
it has plenty of room to pay the players, it’s up to the teams to work out their signings under the cap. If teams are too stupid to do that, it isn’t the NFL’s responsibility, the team just suffers.

I just wanted to say I don’t care what Ross has to pay, sign the players up, and as always don’t exceed the cap.

But again, Ross money isn’t my concern at all, never will be

  82. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I don’t have enough energy to root for the next fucking head coach and team I just don’t have it in me to keep rooting for losers as I predicted piece of shit fucking loser fucking Lions fans chanting us out of our own fucking Stadium fuck you Miami Dolphins fuck you and die I’m done goodbye

  83. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Adam gase should be fired tonight what are the worthless piece of shit and move on maybe hire a piece of shit coach from the fucking lions from the fucking Lions the fucking lions whatever I don’t care I’m done with this fucking team I am so fucking over it got room for this fucking piece of shit loser team anymore

  84. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Ross saving money? Lmao. Yeah, that’s why Landry is gone.

  85. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

This Landry debate is old and tired. Agree to disagree.

  86. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

OMG!!! The BEARS ALMOST got that into the endzone at the last second against the Patsies*!

  87. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And so, the Patsies* now move a game ahead of us, plus they beat us head-to-head.

I understand the cap, we are under it every single year, we are undercap annually…
    ————-
Do you realize WHY we are under the cap every single year (along with every other team)? If we’re over the cap, we’re disqualified from playing any game.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

As such, this matter has NOTHING to do with our owner Steve Ross, or any other owner. These are the NFL rules, my brah.

    • Yes, but that never happens. Going over cap has never been a problem, figuring out the players to keep and let go under the cap is our problem.
Remember when Mario Williams got 9 million a year? Cutler 10, and so many other mistakes. And all the dead money we carry over all the time from screwing up. There are plenty of ways to improve the cap, and stay under it, my only point today was I don’t give a shit about saving Ross money . It’s his responsibility, not mine, and they need to get their shit together for this team to succeed. Stop making dead money mistakes, overpaying for garbage free agents, and there should be plenty of money to retain our talent.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

By trading Jarvis Landry, we absolved ourselves of making yet another BIG $$$ mistake (by re-signing him for over $15M/year), that could have turned into DEAD $$$.

Mike Tannenbaum has been our greatest mistake, ever since the day Steve Ross hired him… and we’ve had to learn the HARD WAY.

      • So we couldn’t sign Landry, because of all the other mistakes, yes, that’s their responsibility, and they screwed up. All the money wasted on Pouncey and Tannehill and some others was enough to pay for 4-5 Landrys
At some point in time we have to stop screwing up, so we don’t have to intentionally screwup to fix past screw ups.
Landry would have played every game, and earned his money. The dead money we are paying for won’t help the team at all, those players are already gone and can’t possibly help

  89. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

My good friend is a Jags fan and they are basically my #2 team. We have been debating him for years.

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

He’s not an ex player so he’s wide open. LOL

    • Landry debate, 7 weeks
      Bortles debate, 5 years, lol
Yea the Landry debates getting old, but the Bortles debate is prehistoric 😎

I didn’t really want to debate Landry 5 years, lol guess it never catch up to the immortal Bortle

      • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Landry debate is old because it changes narrative every other week. Now it’s about Ross being cheap?

How about the team offered him somewhere between $12-14 M. He turned it down. Next

  90. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

People, we’re 4-3 and most of the league is right there with us. Did you really think we were a juggernaut team especially with all the injuries? Be honest. We’re a middle of the road team competing like most of the league. Sometimes I feel like this blog if the show The View. LOL

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Dude! You’re the ONE who is always promising “The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”!!! LOL 😉

I thought we’d played better than a 4-3 record, leading up to today. Sufficed to say, I’m disappointed. And I KNOW you are, too, man!!! 🙂

      • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Just want to compete. Defense didnt do that today.
How about Larsen going out now too….the hits keep coming.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah we played a bad game. You know what was weird, early on I didn’t think we had it today. It happens. This loss really didn’t bother me that much because I don’t have high expectations. We’re not a complete team but we can make games interesting.

Of course I wish we would have played better, especially for the festers. But we’re not good enough to overcome these injuries week after week. We just aren’t. Even without the injuries we all didn’t know what kind of team this was. We’ve got some very good players, some average and some still learning on the job. We are what our record says we are and like we talked about during the week, we could easily have entered this game 2-4 without Wilson’s heroics.

This game actually made it easier for me to follow them the rest of the way. I have no idea what will happen. LOL

  91. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The amazing Landry/Mayfield lead Browns are 2-3-1. But fuck the Dolphins. LOL

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

      2-4-1 now

    • That’s good for the browns, it usually takes them 4 years to win 2 games, lol
But how much does our dead money help us is the question, our cap is mismanaged. The dead cap money can never help, but a player there EVERY week no matter what, Can indeed help.
A player like Suh in the middle coululd have helped our run defense today, we are paying dead money for Suh this year and don’t even have him. How does that help Us.

  95. Landry had 10 catches for 97 yards and a TD today. How did our dead cap money do ?
Landry was not the problem, mismanagement at the top was and is

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Brah, you’re chasing your own tail on this. I can GUARANTEE you that Jarvis could never have done what Albert Wilson did for us last week… and for pennies on the dollar that Jarvi$ demanded from u$.

Jarvi$ walked away from our $13-14M/year offer to cha$e after MORE $$$ from the Browns. It is what it is, David.

      • Where was Wilson in the second half? And some other games he was almost invisible?
What willWilson do next week? Parker? No ones iron man like Jarvis, he never gos to the bench with injury, just keeps adding to his records every week, while we are paying dead money and down to 3 WR
I’ll move on to a differant subject, obviously there is a lot of room for improvement in this team, top to bottom, and we don’t have a lot of time to figure it all out

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Our DEAD CAP $$$ are solely attributed to the one and only MIKE TANNENBAUM, who thought it would be cute to be the stej GM reincarnate for our Miami Dolphins.
