The Fest, it was beautiful. Great meeting some new, very cool people. Great spending time during the week with those I’ve already met. The Game, anything but beautiful. I would say to most of our surprise, it was the defense that apparently got stuck in the team hotel, and didn’t make it to the game. Quite a few were so concerned about the play of QB Brock Osweiler, and it was our defense, which had been playing opportunistic football, that really let us down.
I, and a few others, including Bookman’s pal and Lions fan Fred, felt like the score didn’t accurately portray what we all saw on Sunday. We were thrashed, and the 10 point differential doesn’t tell the story. At the game, it’s hard to see the individual battles, but we were getting wiped out, and run over all day long. 248 yards rushing, with most of the damage coming from rookie Kerryon Johnson, but really, the Lions O-line, which was devastating our front 7.
I noticed so many damn substitutions that looked to me like we weren’t sure WTF we were doing. For instance, at least twice, I saw Minkah trot onto the field, Baker trot off the field, only to have them turn around and switch back. On the O-line, it looked to me from up on high, that Ted Larsen had an awful game, and sure enough, he was replaced by newly acquired OG/OC Wesley Johnson, who was the Jets starting C last season.
The injuries are really piling on up us and I fear what happened last year, starting the season 4-2, only to go on and lose 5 in a row is a real possibility. We lost a dynamic offensive playmaker in WR Albert Wilson. You could say he made enough of an impact to almost single handedly give us 2 of our 4 wins. Now he’s gone for the season. Our deep threat WR, who has been somewhat forgotten lately, Kenny Stills, gone for at least this week and maybe more. We will be scraping the bottom of the depth chart barrel to bring in Devante Parker and possibly LCIII (Leonte Carroo). Hey, if you can’t get onto the field at first, hang around and wait for the attrition to happen, and you’ll get your shot.
I thought Brock Osweiler played well enough, and was surprised that some thought he played poorly. Sure, Matt Stafford played better, but Stafford is a much better QB playing in his 10th season for the same team. I thought Osweiler made a couple of great throws, and yes, one particular throw should have been picked, but he wasn’t the reason we didn’t win. Even if Tannehill were 100%, I want to see more of Osweiler. My plan would be draft a QB in 2019, and try and find your backup QB. Maybe Osweiler is that guy. Tannehill doesn’t fit that bill at $26M next season, so I believe this is Tannehill’s last season here, or at least it should be.
It’s tough to overcome injuries, and this will make 2 consecutive seasons where injuries have ravaged our roster. Last season, Raekwon McMillan was injured early in game 1. T.J. McDonald was suspended for 8 games. OG Ted Larsen was on IR for 8 games. CB Tony Lippett tore his achilles and missed the entire season. Later on RT Ja’Wuan James went on IR, along with DE William Hayes. This season has been much of the same. TE MarQueis Gray started the avalanche, followed by Pro Bowl OG Josh Sitton. ST’s ace LB Mike Hull and OG/OC Jake Brendel followed suit, and were both placed on the returnable IR. William Hayes was just a little later, as he tried not to get a roughing the QB penalty by placing his full body weight on QB Derek Carr, awkwardly landed on his knee in his effort to do so, and joined the barrage of injuries and ended up on the IR. OC Dan Kilgore who we traded for with SFO in the offseason also landed on the IR with a torn triceps muscle.
The last thing we needed was a Thursday Night Effing Football game after these injuries. We’re short in the WR corps, with just Amendola, Grant, Parker and possibly Leonte Carroo, the latter 2 have 2 receptions for 40 yards on the season, and both of those are Parker’s. DE Charles Harris is OUT (Disappointing!), TE A.J. Derby DNP, TE Mike Gesicki has a shoulder injury and was limited in practice, as was WR Danny Amendola and S T.J. McDonald with an ankle injury.
We still have a winning record, but can we maintain it? We’re going to have to be creative on offense, now that 2 of our HR hitters are out (Wilson and Stills). We’re going to have to look for Grant and Drake, and maybe our old long lost pal Devante Parker becomes a hero for a day. On defense, we shouldn’t get run over by the Texans. Lamar Miller has 371 yards on 95 carries for a less than stellar 3.9 YPC. Alfred Blue has 216 yards for a 3.4 YPC average. It shouldn’t be the run game, although QB DeShaun Watson is tied for 2nd with 216 yards rushing, so we have to contain him. I’ve already mentioned DE Charles Harris is out, but DE Jonathan Woodard will be back.
DeShaun Watson lit up the NFL last year before getting injured, but this year has been a fall back to earth for Watson. Watson has thrown for 1937 yards, 10 TD’s and 7 INT’s, along with his 216 yards rushing and 1 rushing TD. WR DeAndre Hopkins is still one of the NFL’s best, but he’s been doubled quite a bit, and WR Will Fuller has been the beneficiary of much less attention on the other side. JJ Watt is back to being JJ Watt with 46 total tackles, 7 sacks, 8 TFL, 12 QB hits, and 4 FF’s already. We somehow managed to contain Khalil Mack, but the Bears didn’t have Jadeveon Clowney opposite him.
When we’re on defense, it’s time to start sacking the QB! If I told you before the season that after 7 games that DT Vincent Taylor and LB Jerome Baker would be leading the team in sacks with 2 each, you’d think I was crazy. What’s even worse is that 3 of our sacks came from William Hayes (IR) and Jordan Phillips (Waived). That leaves only 8 sacks from our current roster. Ugh!
For now, just figure out a way to get a win, and try to hold tough until the BYE week, which comes in Week 11.
I want to thank Stanger for his wonderful hospitality, Chef Warren for his chefness, and everyone who came down to make this last Fest another success. I hope to see more and more of you in the coming years, and you all know I’m older than Methuselah, so please don’t wait too long!

I’m glad I didn’t call an audible and drop $600 for this game!
It was close!
I’m so fucking tired of them taking about that mother fucking bus ride
Yeah I have to be up in 6 hours.
Nogtih all
go dolphins…..
You may sit
M13,
Multiple reasons. I don’t like how he’s managed personnel issues. I don’t like how he calls a game. I don’t like how he thinks the game. I don’t like how his players look stupid year after year. I don’t like his choice in the coaches he hires. I don’t like his taste in clothes. I don’t like his crazy eyes. He’ll, I don’t think I like his choice in toothpaste.
I’m ok with the toothpaste
Bobby McCain …wtf
You will never not get a flag with lay like that
Trailin Bobby!
He’s a solid nickle CB but he isn’t good on the outside.
3 fouls on our DBs on one play
McCain got 2 penalties on that play
Stick a fork in them if they dont get a turnover here.
It’s been over for 3 quarters
Gase is better than the shambles of a team we have now. I’d take him and a new roster over the roster we currently have and some new savior HC. He’s got decisions to make on coaches and personnel. Burke will likely be fired soon. The same mistakes happen over and over under Burke and Gase delegates that to the guys he hired to take care of that side of the ball. Burke is toast IMO. He was given a shot and he has failed.
^
Fuck that
He’s horrible
Sorry Tim
Gase is a joke
Everything needs to be a huge play
LOL @ Randy!!!
I DO think we need continuity, yet there ARE many aspects of Gase that I do NOT like. Call me neutral on the matter. But I must say… I’m really not liking Matt Burke at the moment.
We’re just a couple players away ….
Yeah like 46
McCain should never be asked to play where he’s playing in the first place. He’s not a boundary CB.
Damn even Jones can’t tackle now
Raekwon again did not tackle the guy in the backfield.
Burke can’t make the tackles for them or put them in the right spot in coverage. Our guys are playing like shit
I’m not saying Burke gets a pass but McCain isn’t covering anyone. McMillan isn’t tackling anyone. Howard is getting schooled by Hopkins. Our DTs aren’t plugging their holes right. The DEs aren’t getting pressure or containing Watson. It’s a cluster fuck
When this many players play like shit
Usually coaches share that blame
Tim,
Gase hires the men he puts in charge. If they suck, isn’t it just even a tiny bit his fault? It’s not like Burke is his first and only fuck up on the hiring front. He hasn’t fired his own dumb ass as an OC yet either….and his offense has sucked hind tit for years.
Hopkins is eating us alive and DeShaun is amazing.
Our Defense is WAY too predictable.
Watson hasn’t been sacked tonight
And that’s unusual
Not when our defense is on the field
and yet he came in as the most sacked in the league
I will watch one more possession just for the sake of torture
Our defense is constantly playing scramble drill football. There’s no plan. Or they are not running the plan correctly.
1st qtr of season 3-1
2nd qtr 1-3
Not good
I’m out before I punch an inanimate object (such as my TV) before I go to bed. Men… our team really frustrates me.
Punch a person instead….much more fulfilling 🙂
Gase Blows
Gase has lost in double digits in over 1/3 of the games he’s coached.
That’s not good either.
You are right about that Piggy they aren’t prepared and that does reflect on coaches
Honestly I think it reflects on Gase as much as Burke
He completely missed Parker
Another accurate throw
early in the game on 4th and 1 he calls a lame pass play to Gore that went incomplete, hell even the announcer said he should have sneaked it.
he’s not good in situational football, his play calling is very lame, he doesn’t have high percentage plays that he can go to in certain situations, the play calling comes down to pot luck.
It’s big play or bust
And there’s going to be a lot of bust if you do that
Gesicki needs to quit fucking jumping
I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue
Great movie reference
Airplane
I wish we would just kneel until the clock runs out and leave.
LOL
Gase needs to call over to Bill and set that up.
Gesicki didn’t tell me his IQ is 78.
Okay I have had enough. I am out to punch the wall. Good night
SMASH
Shoot for about 8 inches from a corner, should miss a stud that way
I wish this fucking guy would just shut up this disgusting suck off of Watson, O’Brien, and everything else Houston
He didn’t get two feet down
Challenge
Yeah like this challenge is going to swing the game back to us lol
Score onside score onside score. Easy
The Detroit fans last Sunday were singing cutesie songs . We just had to sit there and take it because we had no answer on the field.
What were they taunting y’all with?
I can’t remember, but it is something we all know very well.
3 and out
3 and out
40 yard TD
12 yards then punt
50 yard TD
3 and out
That’s not a good formula
Wrong
Yeah they have this black shit that’s there for drainage you see it kick up on the drags. There was nothing kicking up. He didn’t get that to drag
Toe
Good we have no way to stop the clock come on Gase just kneel and get out
There you go again. Tannehill’s fault. LOL
Burke is done. We have some talent on defense but always look unorganized. It sucks. I was hoping for the best. It didn’t happen. It’s 42-23. It was 14-10 at the half.
As a fan I really don’t know why we can’t get it going. We’ve lost starting players and even our starting QB. And I get why some of you are tired of it. But stop blaming one guy. You’re wrong about that. Tannehill has not been the QB to go from 3-2 to 4-4. Our defense has major issues and it seems every team seems to know how to attack us and succeed. They rarely help the offense get back in the game. And when they do, they give it right back up.
Life as a Dolfan. Maybe we will pick top 10 this year for those who enjoy that sort of thing. 😦
Pretty sure Gase has been blamed, Burke, several other players, Osweiler, etc. You keep bringing up Tanny, but you are right to he is also part of the problem with this team, just not tonight.
Patricia beat us last week with Patriots football. Which has beaten us for almost 20 years.
Wee thank God it’s over
We suck
I guess I should start freeing up my Sundays in favor of Saturdays
Yeah and kill nfl Sunday ticket if you ponied up the money for it like I did
OK so I picked us to lose this game in my preseason prediction. I picked us to beat Detroit however.
Again
When 1/3 of your games you lose by 10 or more, you are not competing. That’s all i’m looking for. Just field a team that competes every week.
and looks organized instead of everybody just running wild
That guy Burke looks like a moron with that beard. so many breakdowns in coverage, they ran all over us! it doesn’t look good
Yeah it really looked like the guys forgot how to play. It was pure chaos out there. Wide open receivers. No tackling. People running right by our guys.
Heads need to roll after yet another national TV embarrassment
Will be interesting what comes next.
Osweiler is inaccurate but i don’t blame him for the loss, it’s the offensive play calling and the total collapse of the defense. the defense puzzles me because at one point this year they were playing great!
He’s really inaccurate.
I’d like Fales to start if RT17 doesnt play.
don’t worry we’re going to get a good 1st round pick and me the OTA champs once again
No we will find a way to fuck that up too without anything positive to show for it lol
Mike Shula
And that’s all I have to say about that
if this continues defensively i doubt we win another game
I’d like to see Dan Marino take charge of this team
I’d like to see Dan Marino QB this team. Lol
He’d be used to the (non) Defense
did you see Marino before the game? he still has that fire in his eyes
Okay, if nobody is willing to read what people say and you’re all experts…. have a drink and relax.
We’re not as good of a team as we all hoped. I admit it. How about you? Now go piss and shit on anyone you feel didn’t satisfy you. I don’t do that sort of thing. When people resort to name calling and insults your character level goes down. Players are people too. Sorry they don’t fulfill your desires.
Who is doing that I don’t see any of what you are talking about.
You did not just say players are people too
#playerlivesmatter
D, we’re not a good team on many levels. We just saw that and you’re whipping boy is not part of the last 1-2 run. It never ends as Dolphins fans. I hope Tannehill moves on from this team so we don’t have to focus on the same fucking guy and maybe we look at the other 52 and new 53 moving forward. It would be refreshing.
Good look Ryan, now fans have some new scapegoat to get all riled up about. LOL
No son we don’t need Deshaun. I know, right
Not that I’m think he’s isn’t a good player, but we kinda make player’s look really good recently lol. I’m not sure it was all Deshaun
I’m sorry your offended Tim but Burke looks straight out of the movie deliverance, he just doesn’t look smart and couple that with the defensive breakdown!
We have a good core of players. Why are they so bad then?
Had more Touchdowns than incompletions and he had 5 Touchdowns. He helped make us look bad it wasn’t all just us looking bad nomsayin
I nomusayin but you have to admit we helped A LOT tonight.
Did you see Burke throwing a temper tantrum on the sideline? which 70 yard completion or run was he mad about???
That one lol.
Hard to keep track I shoulda named them to make them not blend in with the crowd
They just started showing it for all subsequent scores
Patrick Peterson wants out of Arizona
The game will be on again at 4 AM set your alarm
Gase said ball hit the wire on the onsides attempt. Anybody notice?
I don’t recall it changing direction now I want to look again. He still has other problems.
I will set my alarm to watch again. LOL
You poor guy
I’m not offended at all, ORob. We’re not a good team. TEAM!!!! LOL
Maybe you’ll read what I say someday. LOL
4-4 but feels like 0-8
They have a nice long weekend to figure some things out and MAKE SOME CHANGES.
This team has pretty much scored the same with and without Tannehill, so he is no better than Osweiler. They are both average QBs with flaws. He was never the only problem. He was just never the answer either…and never will be.
Back to Tannehill. LOL
Randy, seriously? We stink on defense. We can’t stop anyone. Tannehill isn’t even playing the last 3 games and we’re 1-2 giving up 28, 32 and 42. Yep, it’s all about the guy not playing. LOL
Maybe we will be in the top 10 this year so we can get that QB prospect everyone is jerking off about. LOL
Problem is, with the run D being so bad if they end up with that high pick they’re going after a guy like Oliver instead and there goes your qb.
Burke should be fired …………TODAY!
RESET button. Again. This coaching staff is no better than the last two. In fact, Lazor was head and shoulders a better OC than Gase is.
I know it’s early but the way this season has been going the last few weeks I’m going to throw it out there anyways. Two guys I want this team to target in the draft: Will Grier and David Blough. That’s right. Two qb’s.
Gase is an absolute moron. No arguing with that. He brings in a guy last year that didn’t have a single rep with the starters to play qb and expected him to be able to do his job and this year he has a 2nd string qb who didn’t get reps with the starters in OTA’s, training camp or preseason.
He’s in his 3rd yr as a HC and still does not know how to properly prepare his players.
He’s a young guy with no connections, running on the success of Manning, and out of his element. The workload is way too much and he has way too much pride. Top notch coaches see results fairly quickly. McVay with the Rams. Reid in every stop he’s had. Belichick way back when. Shula, Walsh, Johnson, etc.
He saw success early, and he couldn’t handle that it wasn’t because of his ‘master plan’. He had hard to manage players, and decided they were untrainable. He needs to look in the mirror. I bet he’s a nightmare for the FO which has their own issues.
So JJ Watt says “We were 0-3, but our team never wavered”
Our team says “We were 3-0, but we never really believed, and we knew we’d end up somewhere around 6-10, 7-9, basically where we belong annually”
This defense looks worse right now than Tom Olivadotti’s defenses.
It’s sickening. I didn’t watch last night, I worked until 9:20, got home, my wife and her sister are watching the TV downstairs, so I go up to my bedroom, lay down and watch the game, and fall asleep.
We’re the WORST 4-4 team in the NFL. (we’re the only 4-4 team) Hehe
We’re the worst team in the NFL. TIFI
Ha! Not yet, but we’re heading in that direction for sure!
Hulk must want to smash all things Dolphins . . .
Maybe the Texans will be interested in Parker now that Fuller is out for the season. They saw what he can do first hand, so they saw what he’s capable of.
That would be a pretty nice tandem, Hopkins and Parker
The raiders traded Cooper and have plenty of 1st round picks.
So glad I did not go to the Ale House in my Dolphins gear last night. I agree with everything every one is saying about this fucking team. It’s embarassing
Their run defense is lacking (though not as bad as ours). We had success against them. We should have pounded the rock at least 40 times that game and wore Watt and Clowney down.
TBH, I would like to keep Parker. With our WR, TE, and RB groups, all our offense would need is an F-ing QB, OL depth and a better play caller.
For part of the night last night I didn’t want to trade Parker
It was a good performance by him and our WR unit has become so thin
But we are fucked this season
So trade him – get some picks
Clean house and let some one else make those picks
Something g is really wrong with our FO: between Parker and Harris we aren’t getting a lot of production out of our recent 1st round picks
And it does seem like too many players are eager to leave this organization
Defense just needs another boundary CB and DL depth. I like McCain but he is no boundary. He is what we gave him that contract for nickel and he is good at that. McDonald looks lost in coverage most of the time (is that because of Burke’s system, dunno). LB’s are just young and thin due to losing Hull and Allen.
Tim, dude, you brought up Tanny, i never whipped anyone, you need go back and read your stuff bro. You literally took a discussion with no reference to Tanny and made one. I also have not blamed Tanny for anything that has happened in that game because im not a moron, he wasnt playing. You are deep end of the pool in your defense of Tanny bro. You are the one that seems to be completely unreasonable when it comes to the subject, not me, you.
Unfortunately, we’re doomed either way. If we keep him, you know he’ll have a year just like this one next year too. If we trade him, he’ll catch 70 passes for 1100 yards and 10 TD’s next season.
Piggy – It’s so strange – We’re getting great production from our later RD picks, like 5th RD Davon Godchaux, 6th RD Vincent Taylor, 5th RD Bobby McCain, 6th RD Jakeem Grant. Minkah looks to be a real good player, even if the hype has slowed on him. 1st RD picks seem to bust a lot everywhere. Tunsil, thank goodness, has been a great pick.
Id trade Parker, one game where he had something to gain from it and he all of a sudden shows up doesn’t make me wanna pay him 15mil next year on his 5th year deal. Im not excited about that performance, or at least im not excited enough to reverse the rest of the 4 years. If he could have brung his A game all along, why didnt he. Sorry but we need the picks more than we need him.

I can never tell whether it’s the coaching or the players just not executing. Either way, one or both is a problem. A better QB would help a bunch of the problems, we’re just horrendous at converting on 3rd down, I do believe very strongly that a better QB would remedy that issue. I wouldn’t want to rely on either QB we have, Tannehill or Osweiler to make a throw for more than 5 yards downfield to pick up a 3rd and 7. That’s a QB issue.
Its both Mike. Some of the shit we saw last night was full on the players, they played like shit. Coaching though has some responsibility in most things, they get the players prepared, they keep them from losing their composure, they get them back on track if things get out of hand. They failed in all those capacities last night.
I hear ya. I have it recorded, but I don’t have a lot of incentive to sit there and watch it.
I wouldnt, its a depressin and frustrating mess of a game, you will not enjoy it.
BTW – How did Raekwon run down Lamar Miller? Was Miller toting a piano?
Cam Wake has 1 sack this season.
Robert Quinn has 1 sack this season.
Andre Branch has 1 sack this season.
Charles Harris has 0 sacks this season.
Now I’m not the smartest man, but THIS is a PROBLEM.
Wake had some good pressures last night but Watson was eluded him and there was no pressure from the other side to help. Seemed to be that way all night. If we did get pressure from one side there was no help to contain Watson. That was this game though.
OK, we need the Jags, Ravens, Broncos, Steelers, Bengals, Jets, Colts (they have better record than Raiders), and Patriots (as always) to lose and we are still in the W/C hunt. LOL This is another scenario we face every F-ing year at this time of year.
Oh, and the Rams to lose at home against the Packers.
Give you credit Mike, still hopeful. I think we’re in a death-spiral myself, but I hope you’re right.
Dont know how they got such high score for McMillan he played like shit.
To be honest, Wake didnt play particularly well either.
I agree with all of these. Those guys all had a good night. I am surprised not to see Drake up there because he had a good night too.
you don’t need a superstar q.b to win. what you need is a good run game and defense.
^^^^ We at least had the run game last night but did not use it enough. Especially in short down and distance AGAIN.
Better QB play can make your defense better. If a team sells out on the run, and you can’t pass, you’re dead! Your premise that a good run game and defense are important are correct, but w/o that good QB, you still can’t win a big game when you have to
tell that to Trent dilfer
its not the personell it’s the coaches. they are young and make stupid mistakes.
Yeah but the mistakes are what the opther team is capitalizing on. I agree with you it ultimately falls back on them for not having them prepared, but its at least partially on them too.
McMillan is fast Mike, he just seems overwhelmed out there. He is making bad decisions on plays, he isnt covering his gaps well. He is having rookie like games but again, he is pretty much a rookie. He isnt playing very well but keeping that in mind, he is kinda a work in progress. Im hoping that a year like this doesnt completely stunt his development. Im hoping thats true for all our young players because we have some pretty promising ones.
I’ve seen too many times where we are in 3rd or 4th and 1 and has calls a play that may have a 30 percent success rate. when he could opt for a play that has a 100 percent chance
He hates QB sneaks it seems and that is one of the most effective ways of picking up a short yardage, epecially if its less than a yard to make it. Im not sure why he hates it so much.

——————————————
Quinn is making really sweeping loops to the QB’s, he is coming around fast and low but his arc is too deep and because no one is pushing the pocket back from the front, none of the QB’s are fluching back to him. He either needs to change his path to the QB or start with some power moves mixed in instead of the same move all night.
Rob – Dilfer is the exception to the rule, go look it up. Most playoff teams have top 10 QB’s. It’s the same story every year. Sure, every now and again, a team with an exceptional defense can make up for a weak QB, but it’s pretty damn rare.
The teams that are consistently in the playoffs and going to the superbowl have either 1) great coaching, 2) exceptional defenses and an offense that can sustain drives or 3) A great offense with diversity, ie good if not great running game paired with a star quality QB.
The first one is tough, because great coaches dont come available often. Second one require one entire side of the ball to be great. The latter requires make 3-4 player to be exceptional, so it makes the most sense to try for the one that you dont have to hit on 11 points to make it work.
I like the idea of the shut down defenses, but in this day an age, you cant really keep an entire unit together like that. I think we need to constantly need to be adding talent at QB RB and OL until we get what we need to make this team a potent perennial contender.
So ORob i agree with you about the running game and its importance, but i also dont think that makes the QB discussion moot. I think you need both because they need to compliment one another.
Give you credit Mike, still hopeful. I think we’re in a death-spiral myself, but I hope you’re right.
——————————————————————————————————————–
Got to Mike. Also, just like every year at this time of the season, we have a must win game next week against the Jets.
gase also has immaturity issues. if a player steps out of line he’s too quick to jettison him. see Jay ajayi. Jordan Phillips. he seems vindictive. and I’m not sure about Phillips but I do know dumping what I hurt this team
ajayi
^BOOM! See below!
