Halfway there. It ain’t pretty folks. We started out 3-1, and we all had some hope for a successful season. After all, seasons are broken up into 4 game quarters, and we were somehow a winning team after those first 4, although the crushing loss to the New England Patriots was a wake up call that not all was sunshine in Miami. We started out the first 4 scoring 82 points, and surrendering 90 points, with nearly half of those 90 points coming against New England (38-7). In the next 4 games, the Dolphins have gone 1-3, to even it up at 4-4. In these next 4 games, we scored a little more, 92 points, but surrendered far more, 129 points, with the points given up each consecutive game getting worse, 27, 28, 32, and then 42 this past week to the Texans. Not a good trend!
Although a 4-4 record may indicate a team that can do as much right as they can do wrong, unfortunately for our team, I feel it’s not like that at all. I see us spiraling downward, which incidentally may end up in our favor if we want to draft one of the top QB’s next season, and IMO this has now become a necessity. The QB that can lead us to great things, hope for playoffs and more, is NOT currently on the roster. Unless Ryan Tannehill gets healthy and shows us another gear that he hasn’t yet brought to the table, he’s not the guy. Unless Brock Osweiler shows he can consistently make good accurate throws, he’s not our guy. Both are flawed, and neither is a championship caliber QB.
The next item is our current HC. When he was hired, Adam Gase was considered one of the great, young, offensive minded coaches available. Make no mistake, he truly was highly regarded and sought after, and I thought he may be the guy to bring our offense to new heights. It seems as if he elevated Ryan Tannehill’s play, but unfortunately, the way he accomplished that is with a balanced attack offense, and a “make no mistakes” short passing attack. Bill Belichick said “OK, I’ll just counter your smaller, faster WR’s with nickel, dime and quarter packages, let’s see you beat that!” Well, we couldn’t. Did he find a way to make TE Mike Gesicki make all those smaller DB’s pay? No. Did Frank Gore and Kenyan Drake run all over the smaller DB’s? No. Gase had no answer for that strategy, and now it’s not even the offense that is the current issue, it’s the defense.
In the first 4 games, our defense took the ball away 10 times, while our offense turned it over 6 times, a +4 TO differential. Each game, however, our yardage allowed total began to swell, 336 yards in the win against the Titans, only 257 against the Jets, but 434 yards against the Raiders, and then 449 against the Patriots. The next 4 is where it really starts to get ugly, and the turnovers that kept us in the win column dried up, but the opposing team’s yardage continues to increase.
In Game of 1 of the 2nd quarter of games, we lost to the Bengals, losing the turnover battle 3-1, while allowing a modest 332 total yards. We turned it over 3 times, and forced 3 turnovers by the Bears, and won the game in OT, though allowing a hefty 467 yards, granted, this was with an extra 9:57 in OT. Against the Lions, neither team turned the ball over, but we did manage to give up once again over 400 yards on defense, 457 to be exact. We then got shellacked by the Texans, turning it over once while not managing to get a single turnover (or defensive stop!) against the Texans. 427 yards, and 42 points.
After 8 games, we’re scoring 21.8 PPG (174), and we’ve allowed 27.4 PPG (219). We have forced 14 turnovers while giving it up 13 times. After the first 3 games, we were 8-4. Everything is getting worse, forcing HC Adam Gase to really sit down and look at everything, in an attempt to “fix” these problems. I’m writing “angry”, so take all of this for what it’s worth, but shouldn’t he be trying to “fix” the problems every week? This defense has been pathetic, surrendering tons of yards to our opponents, and now we’re also allowing tons of points too. Our offense simply can’t keep up with that, we play too careful and calculated, and now with playmaker Albert Wilson on IR, the guy who turns a lateral or 2-5 yard forward passes into 50-60-70 + yard TD plays gone, how will we score TD’s?
This is part and parcel why I can’t bear to think the Miami Dolphins are going to force Ryan Tannehill down our throats for yet another failure of a season. The NFL has changed, it’s getting closer to Arena football, except that you can’t really hit the offensive players. It’s a WIDE OPEN game, shootouts, and we play small ball. Teams are hitting HR’s everywhere, and we’re bunting guys over looking to scratch out a run. If it’s Tannehill, or Osweiler, or Fales that are holding this offense back, CUT them! If it’s Adam Gase that just doesn’t have the right field general at QB, then FIND him! Don’t insult us by going with the status quo, and telling us you’re going to “fix” the problem. I watch a lot of football, I have the NFL Sunday ticket, and it’s blindingly clear that we cannot compete in this NFL as currently constituted. We need a gunslinger, and we need DE’s that can pressure opposing QB’s.
11 sacks folks. E-L-E-V-E-N. 8 games, 11 sacks. That’s beyond anemic. It’s the DT’s and the DE’s, but I’d prefer to blame the DE’s mostly. (( Paging Charles Harris!)) (( Paging Charles Harris?)) Doesn’t matter who does the drafting for us, can ANYONE please identify a pass rusher? Robert Quinn? HELLLOOOOOOO! Did Quinn shoot his load in the preseason? He was unstoppable! Peaked too soon? Don’t blame Cam Wake, he’s just about 37 years old, and probably should be a role player now, not a starting DE. What happened to Cordrea Tankersley? He seemed to progress last season, and can we please end the Bobby McCain on the boundary please? If you put McCain back in the slot, at least that’s 2 spots (Howard/MCain) that are competent.
The Jets come to town being outscored in the last 2 games 61-27. I’ve got the remedy for that! The Dolphins have been outscored 74-44. That should even the playing field some. I’m seeing far too many similarities between Joe Philbin and Adam Gase. Hey, when you win the AFC East every year for a freaking century like Bill Belichick has, you can cut whoever the heck you want with minimal blowback. Adam Gase, he doesn’t have that cachet, nor does he deserve to at this point. He seems to have identified the players he likes, and has jettisoned the ones he doesn’t, but having success while doing so helps your cause. We’re spiraling downward, and while it’s possible the Jets offer us a brief respite, the Green Bay Packers in Lambeau will not, and either will the Colts, who are scoring 29 PPG.
Game 9, and it’s hard to find one thing that we do really well. ST’s have been one of our best units, Matt Haack averaging 45.7 yards, and rookie Jason Sanders 9 of 10 in FG’s, of course along with Jakeem Grant with a punt return and kick return for TD’s. Gase has a lot of work to do, and I hope he has his scouts looking far and wide for our next QB, that is if he’s still here to see it through. Most likely he will be given some latitude.
So, on to the Jets. Sam Darnold has been “eh”. Jeremy Bates and Todd Bowles do not an offensive juggernaut make. Bowles is a defensive minded coach, and Bates hasn’t been an OC since back in 2010 for SEA, he’s been an assistant coach all these years (QB coach). Darnold has thrown for 1705 yards, 11 TD’s and 10 INT’s. The Jets had to put RB Bilal Powell on IR with a neck injury, which leaves Isaiah Crowell as the feature back, with Trenton Cannon and De’Angelo Henderson as depth. Losing Powell really hurts the Jets, he usually saved a lil something for us in our clashes. Robbie Anderson occasionally supplies some fireworks, but it’s a pretty boring offense most times with Quincy Enunwa (Jarvis Landry) and Terrelle Pryor and Jermaine Kearse. The Jets recently signed Rishard Matthews, so maybe Rishard will get an opportunity to take out his frustrations on our defense.Jets defense has been just about mid-pack, nothing to get excited about.
My prediction? After all the thinking and analyzing in an attempt to remedy what has been ailing us, Gase finds a way to win against another struggling team this week. I think we win this one by about 4 or 5 points, no score prediction, I have no idea what team we’ll see on either side of the ball.

Just for some clarity on cap savings in 2019 with 3 of our DEs in Wake, Quinn and Branch if they don’t earn next season consideration, we save almost $30M and only take a $2M dead cap hit for Branch. None of these contracts tied us up long-term. Add Hayes to that and that’s another $4M in cap savings. Sure we’d have to revamp the position, but if they’re not producing to the level we expected does it matter? We can free up a lot of cap in 2019 that has nothing to do with Tannehill just so you know.
James, Parker and Amendola free up almost another $25M in cap space in 2019 with no dead cap. The reason I’m saying this is a lot of the moves this team made this offseason was to try to compete and win now. If this season falls short, we can walk away with over $60M in cap savings for 2019 without even looking at Tannehill. Just some food for thought.
So if everyone is looking for some sort of a reboot and we have to suck it up for a couple of years because we’re not ready to compete anyway, we’ll have plenty of cap space to work with and 9 draft picks in 2019. Management actually did a good job setting up these contracts.
I for one am not a fan of releasing our starting QB to save $13M and lose $13M in dead cap for a guy no longer on the team. If we’re going to transition anyway, roll with him if we can (injury status) in 2019 and move on in 2020 when the cap hit is only $5.5M. Hopefully we have the young QB ready by then, or at least somewhat ready.
Do you still consider him reliable at this point? I really don’t. He’s missed so much time the last 2 years. What if another injury to him means we have to start our rookie QB earlier than we wanted? I see no good reason to keep him. Osweiler might be a better, cheaper, healthier option. He would prefer to play with Gase, you can be sure of that.
I think I already explained the issues you just asked me about. Tannehill is more talented than Osweiler. You can see it in mobility and throws over 10 yards. Osweiler’s passes drift with very little velocity and accuracy. If you want to roll with him that’s your opinion but we’re 1-2 with him and could easily be 0-3 without the wacky Bears game. He is a placeholder. Nothing more. Tannehill is not elite. We all get that. I tried to point out that Tannehill’s contract doesn’t handcuff us in anyway and it’s short-term, if we’re retooling. Save $13M and lose $13M for a lesser QB. We’ll see what Gase and management feels. It’s amazing to me how perceptions change over 2-3 games.
That said… I’m rooting for Brock every week. I’m a Dolphins fan. The playoff picture is wide open.
Stanger
You asked earlier what has changed with Tannehill. #1, now his health seems to be a risk. I’d have a surgeon take a long look at that shoulder, especially since it’s his throwing shoulder. #2, he’s going to get $26M next season, and if he elevated his play this season, it might be worth it, but not only did he not elevate his play, he’s become more of a health risk, not only with the knee, but now the shoulder too. #3, Brock Osweiler, who knows the offense as well as Tannehill, and might be a cheaper option, has slightly outplayed Tannehill as completely healthy. That’s why I have a very hard time seeing Tannehill being here next year, unless he rips up that contract and takes a lot less.
It is really strange to see these conversations before we even hit the bye week. Now we have a late bye, and we have not played well of late, so I am sure that plays into it.
But: Just beat the stinkin Jets, and the Packers! 6-4 heading into the bye! It can be done, especially since the Packer game is the “Tundra Fest”!
I think it’s because everyone has seen this movie- multiple times. The cast may change, but the end result is the same; you’re hoping the new players will jazz the show up, but it always ends up going flat, regardless of who plays which role.

I think it’s more about touches than carries!
But I like his response!!!!!!
That was Dolphinesque of UCF!
It seems as though between the media, the fans, and circumstances alike… we have another QB controversy brewing for the ’19 season.
HenneHill!
LOL! 😀 😆
And it certainly sounds as though Schad and Armando went in on Gase this afternoon, regarding Tannehill. Wonder why the contrarian Omar didn’t follow suit? LOL
Believe it or not, Omar has actually been more realistic about the “overall” team than the drama queen Armando. LOL
Everyone is focused on QB. WTF have you all been watching? LOL
Meh!
Start the Rookie!
M – I think the rest of the season will clear up the QB situation for next year.
I hope so, but if we draft a QB early in the ’19 Draft, that may throw things off a bit. YES, we’ll need a ‘place-holder’ (don’t want to throw a rook QB to the fire like we did Tannehill)… perhaps that’s what ya mean.
My view is Osweiler is a more likely placeholder than Tannehill, at least at the moment.
<—- Me, Homo Henneablis, sees snow flake for first time after coming out of cave.
There’s snowflakes everywhere! 😉
😆
YUP!!!
If we want to do this RIGHT, we need to DRAFT our second-coming of Dan the Man… I’m not interested in any FA QB acquisition, unless he’s a CHEAP ‘place-holder’.
Nick “WHO???” Mullens is currently SHREDDING the $100M man, Chucky Gruden!

They all (our beat writers) have their faults, that’s for certain!
Just beat the Jets! It is the 9th game, I cannot stand wishing the season away….win the next game! We are 4-4, not 2-6!
That’s a Big Fan!

At least at the moment, I 100% agree with ya, Mike E.
IMO… if Tanny was “IT” (no, not PENNYWISE the Clown, LOL), we’d all know it by now. I cannot believe that Adam Gase still thinks we have yet to see Tanny’s upside and full potential since he was drafted in 2012. What’s more, Tanny can now be labeled as an injury risk.
When it comes to Tannehill, I’m not with the highest on him, nor with the lowest on him (I didn’t label, Tim… happy?!! LOL 😉 ): I’m REAL and I’ve always supported him. And too few realize as I do that Tanny still holds the NFL record for consecutive completions.
However, I think it’s time to move on from Tannehill… barring some kind of GREATNESS he goes on once/if he comes back this year.
I’m pretty sure that Gruden is intentionally trying to tank this season to get the ‘reset’ that he wants, knowing that he’s safe for a few seasons. Call this a ‘Captain Obvious’ statement… but it still upsets me.
I haven’t seen this type of BS since the Cults’* “Suck for Luck” campaign in the 2011 season. SAD!
RIP, Dr Z, he was one of the most respected writers for SI when I was a teenager
Holy crap. This kid for the Niners is tearing it up.
At the end of the day… if we change the roster guess who still roots for this team? 😉
I will no matter what
13 teams have winning records in a 32 team league, and some of them are one game over .500. That can change week to week. Until our season is over, why give up? What do you think other fans are saying about their teams? LOL
Go for the ride, stop being so angry! 🙂
Our season is not a movie. It’s a series and you have no idea what the outcome is. You react to every game like it’s a judgement on everyone. At 3-0 it was good, we’re okay. After two losses it was blow it up! After the Bears win it was Oswieler should be the QB. Then two losses in a row it’s well if we’re retooling just go with the guy who won’t do much. LOL/WTF?!!!!
Anyone like competition and playing to win? Geez guys. Give up much?
If you go back and look at all your contradictions it’s pretty funny. But I guess that’s not part of the bashing party. If you think anyone part of this team is ready to give up you’re not being fair. Everyone on this team wants to win every game. Sorry they can’t. But mocking them because they can’t somehow makes you what… a winner? The easy couch GMs come out in force. So tell me experts, what would you have done dealing with the circumstances?
You do realize we lost multiple key players this year already right? Okay superior head coaches… go! This should be fun. LOL
I hope my LOL didn’t make anyone lose it or anything. 😉
So Derek Carr doesn’t elevate anything about his team but somehow he’s an answer for some other team? He’s another Kirk Cousins and at the price I’d stick with Tannehill because he’s already here. Tannehill makes less than the other two but okay, overpaid. QBs are all overpaid, we all know that, and Tannehill is 17th on the pay scale for QBs. That will also lessen in the next year or so as we know it always goes up.
If Tannehill gets healthy, he will be our QB the rest of this season and next year. Bank on it. Root for the young bucks. I will too. 😉
Gruden went on about losing an OL which resulted in tonight’s outcome. Funny huh?
Blame the owner for not addressing the OL I guess. They don’t have starters 3 deep at each spot.
It’s a team game. If any of us feel we lost the CIN game because of Tunsil having to come out because of concussion protocol it’s an excuse. But it changed everything and Tannehill got blamed for that loss. Burke blamed the defense when they had a chance to make a stop and didn’t. Team game.
Injuries have killed us all season. It’s been crazy but everyone focuses on one position. We’re 1-2 with Osweiler and without some crazy Wilson heroics we lose the CHI game too. He helped us win the OAK game as well.
As much as I focus on team all we keep seeing is we need to move on from Tannehill and now it’s acceptable to have a mediocre/sub par QB and suck it up for a few years.
Funny how that works. 😉
We’re 4-4 and in the mix with most of the league. Yet it’s time to blow it up and start over. Beat the Jets at home and we’re in good shape at 5-4.
Just like when Griese went down and Earl Morrall stepped up. Go Team!!!!
Lose this game even close and I realize the confidence level will go down even though Tannehill hasn’t played in 4 games, yet he’s still the scapegoat. LOL
LOL @ ER
We should have drafted OL that would have changed everything, also a QB, and any other prospect everyone desired that would have made all the difference. You can’t predict injuries. But some fans are above all of that and had a much better plan and call you out on it over and over as if we had anything to do with it. LOL, LOL, LOL.
I just want to see this team start fast. Not sleepwalk thru the 1st quarter. I’d be nice to see them come out with a purpose.
It’s a next man up league. Coaches need to get the players ready to play. The season hangs in the balance of this game. Absolutely cannot lose to the stej.
GO FINS
Nah, it’s a movie.
Start out with hope, show promise, get a bunch of injuries, never addressing the real issues but trying to bandaid problems, mediocre ending… Pretty sure it’s a movie.
I’m still waiting for the heroic come back ending!
That’s not the movie we are watching. You need to go to a different theater.
Wil, not your fault, but I keep seeing Tide Pod, probably due to the craze of kids eating them, and then Gronk pimping them.
Maybe we’ll get lucky and Gronk will eat one “box”!
I’m sure the pick six that he threw into the helment of an OL in the middle of a sea of defenders and the strip sack poor as shit protection of the ball had nothing to do with the Cincy loss. It was one OL out of 5 that caused those to happen. Just like it has always been a OL man’s fault for the countless other time he has been strip sacked or thrown a game drive ender. Come on Tim at least try to fake you have some finger nail or hair follicle that isn’t absolutely in love with Tanny.
I already said in the past Tannehill was part of the debacle in the 4th qtr in Cincy. I was talking about how it was a team loss. Many things happened that lead to that loss. But you can’t focus on anything but Tannehill.

If you leave half way through a John Wayne movie You’ll always think he got his ass kicked! 😉
He doesnt?….wtf
Oh and just curious, who on our team do you relate to John Wayne in his films lol. I dont see a John Wayne from the FO all the way to the PS guys.
I’d say Wake and it would be in the Shootist!
Son, was worried about UCF last night cause I knew Temple wasn’t a pushover team. Glad they hit the reset button during halftime.
Still when you are a team struggling to get legitimacy for your program, you have to handle your business with games like that.
Good games on tomorrow but sucks that 3 of 5 really good games are on at the same time in the afternoon and the other 2 are on at the same time in the evening. Clayton Thorson is a QB I want to see against ND but also want to see LSU beat Bama.
I think a lot of people want to see LSU (the only legit opponent left until the championship) beat Bama. Still they are murdering everyone on their schedule this year, so im not putting a lot of stock in it happeneing. Bama is as good this year as i have ever seen them, scary good, like i dont know if anyone toches them all the way through this season scary good.
Thorson is a well developed QB, but he is a mediocre talent at QB. He probably would be a decent game manager but i dont see star potential in him and i have been watching him for a little over 2 years now.
The reason we lost to cincinatti was coaching error, the 3rd and 1 lame floater to stills that fell incomplete was the key to that loss, had we QB sneaked the 1st down and just gave it to Gore and made them play catch-up we would have won that game, instead we started running high risk plays that turned into easy points for them. It had nothing to do with Tunsil and everything to do with Gases lack of situational football knowledge.
I agree and agree on every single time Gase has done that on 3rd or 4th and 1.
I agree 100% Rob…..that 3rd and 1 call STILL annoys me..LOL
These are the QB’s id be looking at.
Hebert (obviously, even though i see 0 chance we get a shot at him)
Drew Lock (great arm talent, really down to earth kid, maybe a little too passive natured)
Daniel Jones (kind of a sleeper 1st round prospect who might not be a sleeper by draft time)
I dont like Ryan Finley, he is efficient but im jsut not impressed with his upper end potential.
All the above i think have first round potential, Finley to me os more of a second round at best guy, but a lot think better of him than i do.
Second round guys.
Thorson (who i said above im not overly impressed with, for a lot of the same reasons as Finley, but i think he actually has more big play potential than Finley)
Will Grier (he Lock light, he has a good arm, not great, but he also has some good athletic traits)
Jarrett Stidham (Daniel Jones light, i think he has well rounded attributes but less developed than Jones, he hasnt benefitted from the QB coaching that Jones has)
3rd and below
Easton Stiick ( i think there is potential this guy could really jump in the draft, he might be first round talk come draft time. Same school as Wentz, trained in the same style system. Good athletic traits, very good arm, pro system, but all his stuff has been against inferior competition)
Nate Stanley (similar things to Stiick above but ihis arm isnt as good and his accuracy isnt great either. He got exposed when he played against Penn State so you question the competition making him look good)
Kyle Kempt (another one of those guys who plays in a more prostyled offense, good arm talent, seems to have been coached up well because he shows some pro level skills already, smaller school and weaker competition though leaves me with questions, as it kind of alwasy will)
Id probably be looking to draft one of those top guys and one of the bottom group too later in the draft and then along with Falk we could have a young but talented QB room with potential.
In the NFL you can now win with your third string QB! Let’s get one of those.
We have a roster full of them DUH!
D, thanks for the list. I also like Ian Book of ND. Can make all the throws but is lacking in size. He’s like Drew Brees size.
Of course he did. I feel bad for him. He was already having a rough sophomore season now this.
Tankersley was still on the team? I didn’t notice.
GGGGod I hate the Jetssssssss
LOL
In the CIN game what Burke was referring to was we had them 3rd and 10 and gave up a 21 yard play to Green for a 1st down. Then on that same drive we had them stopped on 3rd and 3 out of scoring range on the 43 but McDonald got called for Unnecessary Roughness. So instead of punting, they get 15 yards and an automatic 1st down. The Bengals would go on to score a TD to make it 17-10. Then the real debacle started. It was a domino effect. Tunsil goes out, the blocking falls apart, Tannehill cracks under pressure, their DEs score two TDs off of turnovers and that’s the game.
It sounds like only rest for a period of time can correct it. How long that will be is up to the individual.
Now the say was in the Bengals game….. before said was the Raiders in week 3. Maybe both times, but against Cincy makes more sense.

This kind of statement brigs me to one of my thoughts about how you can tell where blame lies.
How many of you here are like me and on 3rd and 1 or 4th and one immedately goes “OH FUCK” when they see us in shotgun in that down and distance. How many of oyu here cringe just knowing we are in that down and distance. When we have been so conditioned to feel that way, there is something wrong with that scenario and that thing that is wrong is on Gase’s shoulders or potentially Tanny/Osweiler if we see them audible.
How many of us here see us driving for a go ahead score, or even a score that might put us in reach of a go ahead, we get on their side of the field and you get that feeling, when’s that sack going to happen, when are we going to get picked in the redzone. We are also conditions to feel this way because of how often that shit happenes and thats on the QB.
How many times do we have a small lead and we are on our side of the field and we are just like come on lets run the ball and close this one out and then we see a fucking pass formation followed by a strip sack or a pick six. Then we are like “fucking figures”. We feel this way because we are conditioned because of it happening repeatedly.
Im not making this up, this stupid ass shit happens all the time and a lot of it falls on 2 people, Gase for trying to be cute when he should stick to tried and true methods and Tanny. The rest of the problems we have are random any team has these kind of issues problem, like injury bug, but some of these other things are unique to just a few teams and those teams are the ones that are perennially disappointing.
That’s insane. WTF!
It’s cuckoo
Honestly, it’s hard to beleive it’s just bad luck
I think something is wrong that I just can’t put a finger on it
Piggy, when you do put your finger on it out please notify the team because these injuries are becoming absurd. WTF is right Mike!!!
Tim – I’m definitely not just focusing on Ryan Tannehill. That doesn’t mean I can’t discuss him going forward for next year. It’s not that I blame Tannehill for anything, I just don’t think he’s the guy. Now this shoulder injury makes him an even larger question mark than he already was. I hope the plan is to upgrade at QB next year by drafting a top QB, and then finding a suitable place holder. Fair or not, the presence of Tannehill just reeks of leaving things as they are and have been, and I think it’s time for both parties to split amicably.
Tannehill is the wrong direction to be going in
It’s not blame. QB is just a fundamental piece and we should be ready to change direction.
I understand that. Sometimes it is time to move on. Not sure that’s what is going to happen though. We’ll see. I was just saying that people seem to forget a series of bad play in many phases lead to that loss in CIN as I pointed out in a couple of recent posts. It was a domino effect that I couldn’t believe was happening.
So you can understand it when Mike says it but im saying exactly the same thing and i hate Tannehill?
I already agreed with all of you today, yesterday and days before during this conversation that looking for the next young QB would be a smart thing to do. What do you want from me man? You’re so hung up on this. You keep trying to put me on the other side of the debate for some reason.
My only other point was don’t be surprised if it doesn’t happen the way you’re saying it should go down. We’ll find out for sure how Gase and management handles it.
We still have 8 games to play. I’d rather focus on trying to still keep this season alive. There will be plenty of time to devote to the offseason as it happens. Tannehill isn’t even playing and who knows when he will. So let’s go Brock and let’s go team! Beat the fucking Jets! LOL
I dunno Tim the ” But you can’t focus on anything but Tannehill.” comment doesnt really say to me you get what im saying, and that you arent accusing me of not objectively looking at the games this season. I am being the objective one, you immediately look to say “but but this thing here, and this thing there, those are the real reasons.” If you weren’t defending him so hard, people wouldn’t feel you are on the other side of the debate. Im not the only one that sees it this way.
ORob, like I pointed out, we had the Bengals stopped on on our 43 with a 4th and 3 up 17-3 and McDonald’s Unnecessary Roughness penalty kept their drive alive. It was still the 3rd quarter at that point in the game, they weren’t going to go for it on 4th down with an entire quarter left and chance giving us the ball with great field position up by two TDs. The 3rd and 1 on our possession before that didn’t lose the game. We were on our own 34. No guarantee we score on that drive. We committed way too many costly penalties in that game as well.
Playing the Jets at the Rock on Sunday.
Not sure why feel the need to mention. 🙂
There should be about 10,000 Jets fans there to keep you company
Not me. Done my minimum of 3 this year. Cops should be kept busy though.
Piggy – Maybe we should switch to that field turf stuff. It’s amazing how many injuries
Except our injuries happen everywhere. We also seem to suffer every kind of injury. It’s absurd.
Tim, you say why cant we blame the OL, Tunsil went out. Im not denying that and im not denying that it caused the pressure to go up, but you act like thats the real reason he melted down and its not. He lost his composure, he had a melt down, he does that every time the pressure gets turned up. Im sorry but its not an easy position that all players can handle, and he cant handle it unless the conditions are perfect. Thats not a good QB. I have never done as you are insinuating and put all of this on Tanny, but im not sparing him either. You seem to take great offense unless everyone is either accepting your excuses for why its not him and why he is really worth 26 mil, etc etc or not making up their own excuses for him. Im not the only one that feels this way. We have too many problems to count to be honest, but when counting them im not skipping over ones just because it fits my agenda.
I just laid out the entire meltdown, man. The turning point in the game was the unnecessary roughness penalty on McDonald when we were up 17-3. We had them stopped. It wasn’t holding or PI it was unnecessary roughness which should not happen. That play kept the Bengals alive. Mistakes like that lead to losses. We also committed penalties on offense that put us in long down and distance when the turnovers happened for TDs. It was a lot of poor football that lead to that loss. That’s all I was saying.
I think Gase owns problems pretty well, but i dont think he is making the right concessions on his part to get them rectified. Its kinda like his game plan. 3rd and 1, pass….failed. 3rd and 1 again, pass again, fail again. 3rd and 1 again…..hmmm maybe since those other two didnt work we should….pass again….fail again.
After watching Carr last night, I would not want him. Tannehill and Osweiler are better.
Tim – I get what you are saying about the season only being half over and we’re still at .500. My issue isn’t so much that they lost games, but how they lost them. None of the losses were even close – they looked completely inept. Nothing they did in those games says they can turn it around. I hope they can and I’ll be watching every game and cheering for them. Then if they keep sucking, I’ll just drink more.
Yeah we are a .500 team with the potential at at best remain .500. I cant see us winning any of games against the better teams and if we dont break the current trend we are going to get embarrassed in a couple of them. I think the more winnable games left are iffy too, we cant play like we have been and expect to win against anything but the other cluster fuck teams in the NFL.
Gase has lost by double digits in over 1/3 of all the games he’s coached.
And his wins are by very small margins usually.
4-4 and negative 45pts in points scored and against. Not good
No doubt man, the last two losses specifically were really on the defense. They looked lost. Gase and Burke are livid about it. They called the players out for freelancing and not doing their jobs. It looked like that because how do receivers get so wide open with nobody even contesting them? Burke mentioned that 4 of the 5 TDs Watson threw were uncontested. How many times have we’ve seen a guy let a receiver go when he was on them and pass them off to nobody? That’s gotta stop.
I said this yesterday, if the defense doesn’t get their act together the offense isn’t good enough to make up for it. So the only chance we have to turn the season around is on the defense and STs to me. I say STs because we have a knack for making big plays and we need them.
ER, losing 38-7 and not having any blowouts for us makes it hard to have a positive PF vs. PA. That’s why I’m saying this season really relies on the defense getting their act together. If they don’t we’re going to continue to lose because we’re not a high powered offense. We need to keep games close and win games less than 30 points scored. That’s the kind of team we are.
It’s hard to be positive when they field a team that doesn’t compete every week. That’s what’s so frustrating. This team has no consistency. Yes, the injury bug has made its perennial visit, but they still just too often look outmatched.
True! We never know what team is going to show up. This can’t keep happening or changes will happen. What’s really frustrating is when it’s a close contested game in the 1st half and then we completely unravel in the 2nd have and lose by two scores or more. It’s turns my fun day into one of frustration in an hour and half. It sucks!
Doesn’t it disturb you to no end to hear the coaches constantly blaming the players for freelancing, and then the coaches also trading players for doing that? So either the coaches aren’t getting their message across, or the coaches aren’t respected, or BOTH! If the coaches can’t reach the players, they don’t belong in that job.
Yeah I can’t put Piggy’s finger errr… hoof on it. LOL
Tim – I swear, if Gase were right in front of me now, I’d shake that fucker until I got an answer from him. To me it’s inexcusable. He needs to be able to get through to his players. There are always going to be a couple that are just out there, but it sounds like it’s more than just 1 or 2 guys. FUCK!!!!!!!!!
9 players lost for the season at the midway point. Sigh….
Hate to say it, but it’s already like a built in excuse for our failure this season. I’m so angry and frustrated with this.
That’s not counting guys on the injury report who may or may not be able to play. I know all teams deal with injuries but this is getting out of hand. Why can’t we as Dolfans ever have any fun? It’s always frustration.
We havent looked good at all this season, when we had 0 on the IR. The injuries definately make it more difficult but its like Mike is saying its an excuse to cover up a bad team. I promise you the Texans game and the Lions game were not because of IRplayers, we looked like a bunch of clowns trying to fuck a greased pig….sorry piggy for the visual.
When we have a bad game, does anyone else want nothing to do with football the rest of the day?
YES!!! Except I’m in 2 FF leagues, so I still need to check. 🙂
Yeah I do check my FF. And if I lose then I really want nothing to do with football. LOL
Actually pay more attention to FF at that point like it is an aspirin.
LOL
Ive got to where i pretend im watching a keystone cop type football comedy and it changes the way i feel about what im watching completely.
That’s the way I approached the Lions game. I just started laughing and drinking more beer saying to myself whatever, not sure why I even follow sports. It’s not fun so what is it with me? LOL
Yes! Unfortunately, I get that feeling even before our game is over.

I used to get really fucking pissed when we would do that shit and id go out n my yard and id rake pinestraw like a motherfucker, about 2arces in no time lol. God forbid i needed to do hedge trimming because id leave those bushes wondering WTF they did wrong to deserve such a buzz cut.
So you trim your bushes to say Fuck You!
LMAO @ D and Tim!
D’s wife is like WTF did you do? D says leave alone, I’m a mad man. LOL
D – I’m frustrated that they can use it as an excuse. I don’t think it’s completely valid. Injuries definitely didn’t cause our 4 losses. It shouldn’t be an excuse, and that’s what makes me even more angry
I’m not saying it’s an excuse but just more add ons to the overall frustration that we can’t build on those players that were supposed to be part of the solution. It gets tougher when you get thinner and have to bring players in off the street. There is no denying that. Talent does matter. if it didn’t nobody would care about FA and the draft. It all matters.
True, but when the ones who should be producing aren’t, they don’t get a pass.
Nobody gets a pass. It’s on all of them.
If i’m home watching the game…day is over. I go to work and clean angrily for a bit and dont watch anymore. LOL
Now if I rec the game the games are all done usually and I have to fast forward out of the misery… then i cant sleep since i’m all riled up.
I even blew my fantasy last week after the Thursday loss. Football was dead rest of the week. LOL
Hey ROCK! Do you know Feist has a new book out?
Is it called Fuck You Dolphins!?
It’s Fuck You Dolphins in the Far Realm, but you were close!
LOL
BTW – does it drive anyone else here crazy how much the raiders are tanking? They should be penalized all of their 1st RD picks this season, it’s a fucking joke!
It does look pretty obvious doesn’t it.
It sure does. I feel like we need a year like that, as much it would hurt, it would be nice to have a top 3 pick in each round. Ideal to have the top pick, you can usually trade a couple and get big returns.
I think they are all in for a new QB and then they can still add two other top prospects in the 1st rd.
Tim – If you had a choice between Drake and Michel this week, who would you play?
Right now Michel is questionable, and White has been killing it.
That’s a tough one because Drake has been scoring even with modest numbers. Michel is dealing with a knee injury and could be a game time decision and those are the worst for FF. I always go with the healthy guy. Keep your eye on Michel’s status. When he’s good to go he gets more touches than Drake. But even if he plays he might have a lighter workload due to his knee. That’s the best I can offer.
Thanks Tim – I have Drake in now, I think I’m probably going to roll with that unless Michel is taken off the injury report.
To me, The Raiders have orchestrated everything, trading Mack for picks knowing full well they were going to tank to make the picks even more valuable. There should be an investigation
If they end up with the top pick, wait until they trade Carr in the offseason. Then people are really going to lose it.
LOL @ ER

____________________________________________
we had them down 17-3 with 3 mins to go in the 3rd, you QB sneak on 3rd and 1 pick up the first and go from there with a new set of downs, at the very least we would have ran more time off the clock. at best we would have drove down and scored either a FG or TD, Gore was picking up chunks, instead we throw a weak pass to stills and give them the ball right back they score. now it’s 17-10 and a ball game. the next thing you know we’re in a shoot out and Tanny gets hurt.
all the domino’s fell after the bad call on 3rd and 1
We had them stopped on their next drive. McDonald’s penalty opened up the flood gates.
We could have also punted on our drive and they still had an entire quarter. You can’t speculate we score on that drive. We only scored 10 points on offense at that point. What we do know is we had them stopped and a stupid penalty kept them alive and put the ball from our 43 to our 28 and 1st and 10.
We can agree to disagree on this.
quit being silly
ER – You need to clean your restaurant BEFORE and DURING the game. Hasn’t Herd taught you anything? lol
At least when the Colts did the suck for Luck campaign you almost bought that they were indeed that bad, same for the Browns the past couple of years, you didn’t think they were tanking, they just were that bad. Oakland isnt that shitty on paper and they literally just stopped playing. I wont say we loo much better at least on the defensive side of the ball. Maybe thats why we are so bad, Burke wants to suck for Bosa and is sabotaging the season and trying to play it off like he is mad.
I almost guarantee they will trade Carr if they can get a decent pick for him.
I think they might even take a 2nd rd pick to unload his contract. Maybe JAC, NYG, TB?
I think NYG might target the Duke QB. Their former QB’s coach is coaching him right now and Eli has already endorsed the kid, almost as if he is picking his eventual replacement.
TB is in a bad spot with Winston, they really need to move on but im sure they are not wanting to own what all they wasted with that pick. JAX is in a similar position but i think they wouldnt have too many problems making the move.
D, TB benched Winston and went back to Fitz. They already seem to be ready to move on.
So of the games I’ve been able to watch on TV we are 1-2 winning only the Jets game. So let’s keep that streak going. LOL
The losses were both bad ones to the Pats and Texans.
well my wife’s mother passed away last Friday so after a week we are returning to a little bit of normalcy now. The New Normal.
My condolences to you and yours, Mr. Naples. Sorry to hear that. 😦
t/y Sir
My condolences Naples!
thnx Wyo
So now Cordrea is on IR with an ACL… WOW. Man… when it rains, it POURS on our Phins.
And that is totally going to set any progress he made this year, BACK. Geez… SMH
Seriously… WTF is it with all of our injuries, year in and year out? Is it the water? Is it the (lack of) strength and training? Is it a curse? Is it slacking players? Is it some kind of conspiracy theory?
This SUCKS! SMH
Naples, so sorry, my condolences to you and your family.
Thanks buddy
Sorry Naples all my best to Mrs Naples and yourself.
💪🙏
Thanks Son … they had retired up in PA outside of Philly, so kinda hard since since she hadn’t seen her in some months.
Whether or not Tannecapsule is here next year is predicated on if Herbert stays in school. If he stays then Tannebum stays. It would be worth 26 mil to go 2-14 and finally get our QB.
Se la vie…
LOL @ Tannecapsule
I thought you weren’t for that sort of thing? What if Herbert is the next Ryan Leaf?
We also can’t go 2-14. 😉
I think he means going 2-14 next year.
Oh yes I got it. I forgot to go all in on his anti-Tanne’s. LOL
The life of a Dolphins fan. I’d rather stop following the NFL than wish for this sort of stuff. Yikes!
Bookman
Any luck on more tickets?
Sorry to hear that Naples, my condolences
I think I’ve discovered a connection . . .
Son HATES anyone with the Dolphins with a Tann – in their name. How did that happen?
the season isn’t over, we went 4-4 the first half which is mediocre, let’s see how the 2nd half plays out before we start blowing things up.
Not over, still 8 games left. From what I’ve seen for most of the season, we’re not going anywhere. You need to score near 30 points a game in today’s game to be successful, unless you have a top defense. We don’t meet either of those.
I disagree, it doesn’t matter how many points you score, the key to winning is to score more points than your opponent,
Naples – My condolences on your wife’s mom. Give her our best. Thanks
Gase is so pissed at his defense cause he knows his suck ass offense can’t keep up. We rarely score in the 1st qtr. Maybe it’s time Gase stops scripting the first 15 plays cause he flat out sucks at it apparently.
Naples, sorry about your wife’s mom. It’s tough. My prayers are with her and your family.
Wouldn’t it be great to see us whoop on the Jets, and when I say whoop, I mean like 35-6, not what I would expect to see if we beat them, more like 20-17, or something along those lines. Can this team ever get it together offensively? Probably not with the current cast, coaches included.
I don’t care what the score is just get the W
I get it, but it won’t mean much other than we’re 5-4, and not going anywhere, especially if we stumble through a win. If it’s a hard fought, well played defensive game, then 20-17 works for me. If it’s just a battle of ineptitude, and we come out on top, I couldn’t care less.
TEST-Test

Glad you got back on…….and glad to see you did.
NAPLES: SO VERY SORRY to hear the news about your loss. May the bright Florida sun light-up your face and your wife’s face in this time of grief. And may both of you find the strength to move forward which, I’m sure, is what your wife’s mom would want both of you to do. My wife and I extend our deepest condolences to both of you.

I WAS UNABLE to get on this site for a couple of days. Perhaps yesterday’s bad weather played a big role. There’s some significant tornado damage in both Pasco and Pinellas counties after the storm. Thankfully, our neighborhood escaped the worst of it. However, many roofs were damaged or ripped-off within a few miles of where we live.

KEN, if you are out there, I fixed my problem with this site. THANKS.
Naples — passings are tough. Take care of that great woman you have.
Football in the snow!!!!!!

According to PFF, “quarterbacks throwing into coverage by rookie Minkah Fitzpatrick have a passer rating of 50.8, the worst for QBs and best for corners in the NFL this season.” We have a keeper there.
He’s a gamer.
So the rest of the secondary must really suck
They started off really well but lately they have really struggled. Early on teams/QBs had the worst passer rating against our secondary. I have no idea what happened.
Hakeem Butler, WR, Iowa State (6’6″, 225)… keep your eyes on this kid.
But we have Parker?
Doesn’t matter, and I wouldn’t mind have two tall WRs.
I think you missed the sarcasm of my post 😉
“Minkah Fitzpatrick have a passer rating of 50.8, the worst for QBs and best for corners in the NFL this season”
———————————————-
Why is he not on the boundary opposite X and Bobby playing the slot where he excels?
Of all the tools in the Minkah knife…. think that might be the one that works less well. Ever try the can opener? He’s obviously a great slot CB, but think S is where he could shine most. But we have one great and one pretty good of those.
The last 2 beatings we took featured Minkah playing only 58 and 54% of the defensive snaps. His previous low was week one at 64%. Here’s a guy with the Best rating going against and our geniuses cut the legs out of his playing time and we get torched two games in a row.
Because we were trailing in both games, playing more base with the Lions and Texans running all over us. Stafford only threw 22 times and Watson 20 times. Both teams ran 35 times against us, 248 for the Lions and 188 for the Texans.
You sound like them, excuses for keeping Minkah off the field should never have to be made. You keep him in, since he can play everywhere. You take other guys out. If he’s so versatile why are they pigeon holing him? We’re getting torched and the hardest guy to throw against is on the sideline. Doesn’t make any sense.
Before McCain hurt his knee in NE he was playing well on the boundary. But the entire defense has looked lost in recent weeks. That shit needs to get cleaned up.
Son, geez man. Minkah is the nickel. We were playing 3 LBs most of the 2nd half in both games. He played 54% and 58% of the snaps, not 20%. Why can’t you accept the numbers game? That was the reason. 22 and 20 passing attempts is very low in this league. But somehow I’m making excuses. I was giving you the data about why. Actually it makes perfect sense.
Now if you want to say Minkah should be a starting CB and not the nickel, that’s another debate. But right now he’s the nickel and backup safety. If you have 3 LBs on the field, he’s not going to be out there.
5Td passes by Deshaun not running passing
That has nothing to do with it. 20 pass attempts all game. He threw some of those TD passes against our base defense. 35 rushes. Again I said 2nd half once they had a sizable lead they kept pounding us on the ground.
Alonso has played 100% of the defensive snaps every game.
McMillan against the Texans 87%
Baker against the Texans 59%
Minkah against the Texans 54%
There you have it.
Son, the same thing in the Lions game.
Alonso 100%
McMillan against the Lions 84.4%
Baker against the Lions 48.4%
Anthony against the Lions 9.4%
Minkah against the Lions 57.8%
Yets game tmrw….. gotta get fired up. 🙂

NICE!!!

I wasn’t sure, which why I said it doesn’t matter. 😉
Thanks for clarifying, though, Hulkster! 🙂
I’m watching Ryan Finley vs FSU right now.
Oh wow, didn’t realize Asante Samuel’s son plays for FSU!
Check your fridge, Brother! 🙂
Oh they are there!!!!!
Gonna break one out after Wyoming takes care of the 4th quarter!
Bradford has made more money being a mediocre QB who is injury-prone than anyone in the history of the NFL.
