2018 Season – Game 10 – Dolphins @ Packers

I was watching Good Morning Football this morning on NFLN, and after showing highlights of the Panthers vs Bucs (42-28), and Saints vs Rams (45-35), yeah, it looks pretty wrong seeing 13-6, Dolphins over Jets.  Kay Adams and Kyle Brandt presented it as a good ole 1990’s defensive struggle, a throwback.  They got it all wrong, this wasn’t a defensive struggle, it was an offensive struggle.  Jets rookie QB Sam Darnold didn’t get the memo that his team was wearing the white jerseys, because he threw better passes to the dark jerseys than he did to the white jerseys.  If you want to credit our pass rush, which actually existed yesterday, feel free to do so.  On our side, we couldn’t block (run or pass), we got one defensive TD and two FG’s.  Light it up!

I’m not singling anyone out here, but our O-line play was just terrible, and of course as per usghe, injuries were the reason for this.  Both tackles missed time in this game forcing Zach Sterup to man both the RT spot when James was hurt, and then slide over to the LT spot when James came back in and Laremy Tunsil got hurt.  So now Brock Osweiler, who I will say has better pocket awareness than Ryan Tannehill has ever had, has no pocket awareness because players were on him in 1 second or less.  Our O-line isn’t good with all our starters in there, but subtract one of our tackles, who are our 2 best OL, Tunsil #1, James #2, it really goes downhill.

I don’t want to knock the optimists here, because it’s wonderful that fans can still believe we’re in this, but I laugh inside  (a sad laugh) when fans say “Oh, not good, the Chargers won, gonna be tough to catch them”.  From what I have seen this year, we don’t belong on the same field as the Chargers, they score 28 PPG, and we’ve scored more just once this year, in OT, and never more in regulation.  We’ve had injuries, but we still have Devante Parker, Kenny Stills, Jakeem Grant, David Amendola, and Mike Gesicki.  We have Frank Gore and Kenyan Drake, a formidable 1-2 punch, yet our offense is putrid.  Yeah, we’re 5-4, easily the worst 5-4 team in the NFL.  We’re the only 5-4 team.

My guess is we’re probably going to have Brock Osweiler as QB one more time as we hit the BYE week, and then after the BYE, it will be Ryan Tannehill’s team once again.  We travel this week to Wisconsin to take on the Packers in their house.  This is an angry Pack team, having lost to the Patriots in Foxboro.  Anyone know who the OC is for GB?  Tee-hee, it’s Joe Philbin.  Not even kidding.  Possibly, this explains how the GB Packers are only scoring 24 PPG, just a few more than our Dolphins.  Hey, is it bad that Saints WR Michael Thomas accounted for more yardage and scoring by himself with 211 yards and 1 TD, while we accumulated as a team 203 yards and no TD’s?

It’s easy for Belichick to do whatever he wants, he’s beyond reproach at this point, no one questions the master.  How smart does he look using Cordarrelle Patterson as a RB?  Can we get some of that ingenuity from our offensive genius Adam Gase?  Don’t bet on it.    I wish he would read this and it would inspire him, but I won’t bet on that either!  I wish something would inspire him, maybe keeping his job, something like that.

I know Toba, Bookman and ER are attending the GB game, I hope they enjoy and I hope our team gives them a great game to watch and a Dolphins victory!  Enjoy fellas, way to represent!

I suppose I am. I hate our team. I know some of y’all are expecting there to magic when Tannehill gets back, I think it will be just more of the same, but maybe we won’t have toilet paper in our waistband.

I’m not sure Tannehill will be back anytime soon. With the OL we’re putting out there I don’t see our offense doing much with anyone at QB. We moved the ball and looked okay for half a game other than not being able to score TDs. Then we couldn’t even attempt a pass without getting sacked.

The defense has been disappointing. They only play half a game now too.

I’m not a blow it up kind of a guy

But what’s the point not to at this point

Our QB has both health and playing issues
Even the talent on our OL has health issues
The WR unit will have 2 guys coming back from injury and Parker won’t be here in 19 either
Our top RB, Gore, will be retiring soon
The only decent unit on offense to build upon is the TE unit – which is yet tomprove itself

I don’t even know what our OC does or why he was ever hired

    On D
The DLine is a disaster – releasing both Suh and Phillips looks like a huge mistake
The pass rush is not there and Wake and Quinn don’t have much left
The LBs are young and that’s a +
The secondary looks like it can be built on as well (although Jones might be done here)
But that’s just raw talent on both LB and secondary bc those units are young units generally

Burke is a horrible DC and I don’t think anyone can argue otherwise reasonably.

Our HC has butt heads with a bunch of players
The plan changes from year to year
    His playcalling is horrible
    His handpicked coordinators both suck
And after 3 years, he is anything but an offensive guru!

Our FO hasn’t exactly nailed all the draft picks
    Fitzpatrick is a good pick
But there are too many other problems

Why not just wipe away the whole thing now
There’s not a lot to build on in 2019 if we just stick with this

Let someone else give us a new plan new direction and start to implement it

I tend to think we aren’t moving forward

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Am convinced we are not moving forward in this season at least. But same time we were 6-10 last year and have 5 wins after 10 games and all those injuries. Was it better last year? Tanny was out then too, not that see him as walking on water.

So not a fan of blow it up, but see a case for it too. Especially if willing to give up on Tanny. At that point time to do that.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don’t care about the record
We are a disaster right now – there isn’t anything to build on for 2019
this is a chance to wipe it clean and start again

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

So you want to blow it up. Keep in minds means 2 or 3 real bad seasons even if they get ti right though.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

My point is the status of the team right now indicates that we are already set for a bad 2019 and maybe even 2020

you are probably choosing between 2-3 bad or mediocre season and 2-3 bad or mediocre seasons

We are way off track from where we should be

I’ve seen way to many flaws to think this team isn’t starting over regardless

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

If you feel that way then that is what you should want. My opinion is different, but all we have for what is right for 2020 at least is just that. I’m more a slowly build guy, but absolutely understand why some are not. No wrong or right in this stuff….. even if wonder what people will be saying if we move from mediocre to truly suck.

  8. D's avatar D says:

Yeah thats a hit for me as well, losing Stan i mean. I wasnt as big a comic book nerd as a lot of people i knew but i have a decent collection. Stand Less while not completely responsible for those comics, he was definately the face of Marvel and Marvel is what it is largely because of his ability to market and make things relevant to the new generation of kids. 95, man you knew it was coming, but it still really doesnt prepare you when a person of his magnitude finally passes.

    • D's avatar D says:

Sean Connery is going to really suck too. Shula. Clint Eastwood. Mel Brooks. Tony Bennett. Max Von Sydow. Robert Duvall. James Earl Jones. Shatner, Michael Caine.Just to name a few more that im dreading.

  9. drg's avatar drg says:

    Pig,

I get what you’re saying, but that’s painting it in a pretty negative light. You could do the same with just about every team in the league.

How many different teams are really happy right now? NE, Pitt, NO, LAR? Maybe CAR, and LAC? Those teams all have a QB they’re either highly optimistic about or can believe in. They mostly have just as many holes in personnel as we do. Injuries have derailed any hope we had of the playoffs this year, but the team has been competitive when healthy. Not saying we should sell out for a QB, but have to draft better and get a QB for value or move all in when we identify a potential franchise guy. Maybe that’s 2019, more likely 2020.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We’ll find some diamond in the rough QB he’ll be playing well and then he’ll get hurt. It’s hard for us to even project anything anymore, it always falls apart. We could have an awesome team on paper and by midseason it will be half of that team. I don’t know why this keeps happening.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think the bottom line is – what can we build upon for 2019 heading in this direction

      I don’t see anything

We are particularly bad right now in terms of QB, OL and Pass rush
and those three things are cornerstones to building a good team

The only thing I think worth building on the young players on D
and the next person can build on that

Its not that we are so bad compared to the rest of the league
Its that we are missing on fundamental things and unless we change directions I think it gets worse

  10. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’m not saying nuking it is some kind of miracle cure

its not – and we know that from experience

But I’m saying, sticking with this group is senseless to me
And we should just wipe it clean at once instead of doing a half ass offseason where we fire the OC and DC
or we changed the “culture of the lockerroom and got rid of certain players”
or we have a huge signing that changes everything

just start over from top to bottom in one sweep rather than piecemeal

    I don’t want any scapegoats
    I don’t care about blame
I just want an acknowledgement that its not working so we do something new

IMO our half ass rebuilds are part of why we’ve been stuck in this purgatory

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Injuries have played a major roll in the team coming apart. Not saying we would have been great if we stayed relatively healthy, but I think we’d be quite a bit better than we are. Even if only a couple of more wins, but better contested games.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

We weren’t scoring a lot of points in week 1

This whole thing is just bad design
        Its a bad blueprint

        injuries don’t help
but there are far too many other shortcomings to place so much weight on the injuries

this is the wrong path to follow

I don’t see any harm in changing direction
and I don’t think its worth the risk to keep going down this path

  11. drg's avatar drg says:

    Pig,

I agree there doesn’t seem to be much in the cupboard. That’s the problem with poor drafts and not hoarding as many picks as you can. If you miss with those picks it really bites you because trading picks is usually a short term move.

I guess I’d like to see what Gase can do with a healthy starting QB and decent luck with injuries/turnovers for a season. He seems above average to me. It’s troubling that we’ve yet to see a really explosive stretch on offense so I get the level of doubt out there.

I’d definitely like to see us can Tannebaum and shake up the way we draft or at least evaluate talent. Too many breakable or finesse guys near the top. Need a more physical line on both sides. The finesse guys can usually be found later in the draft or for decent contracts in FA.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’m not angry or motional about it

I’m just saying it makes sense – this didn’t work out and its time to change gears

ultimately Gase will have to change gears anyway
I don’t think its just talent – actually I think the FO is doing a better job than the coaches

Its Gase who made the decisions to hire our OC and DC
      those are his guys
      and both units suck

Its Gase who has faith in Tannehill
      and that hasn’t worked either

Its Gase who seems to have issues with some of the talent on the team
That lockerroom purge last season – that’s on Gase

the playcalling is bad game in and out – and that is directly on Gase as he insists on doing it

      the picks aren’t great either
but the whole thing is bad

just wash it away and start over from fresh

I don’t think there is anything left to evaluate

  12. drg's avatar drg says:

    Tim,

Don’t blame you or anyone else for feeling kind of hopeless. It’s been too damn long since we’ve had a real reason to believe in this team.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’d be happy with a competitive team that’s exciting to watch even if we’re not championship caliber. But the injuries mounting up making this team play 2nd stringers all over the place, picking up players off the street trying to field a team just isn’t fun because you see the limitations and know there isn’t much we can do. We play well in spurts but it doesn’t last and you can basically predict the outcome. Sports should fun not frustrating.

    ________________________________________________
most of this group isn’t even a year old, We had Timmons as a LBer last year, the ones that were here last year have to learn to adjust to new players. You get better as you play with team mates, you start to gel together, know what each one is doing. if you keep dumping players you will never have any continuity.

i’m sure there will be some tweeking but you don’t blow it up

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

That’s a problem in year 3 of a head coaches career

“oops I put my faith in a certain QB and wasted some time, doesn’t work for me”

most of the decisions made by the coaches and the FO have been bad decisions

I’m not personally eager to invest in the hope that some of the recent ones work out.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

tannehill is 11-7 over his last 18 games, a freak injury sidelined him. most of these guys only have played 10 games together some not even that.

I think making wholesale changes would be a huge mistake, stay the course

  14. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Oops, tee time 4pm see you guys later

  15. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Piggy, like I said nothing we do seems to work out so I’m not disagreeing with your viewpoint. For whatever reason, no matter what we do it’s hard to have a feeling it will all work out one way or the other. I’m not a big believer in snake bitten and stuff like that, but what the hell is it then? Can we at least have a run with most of the team that was penciled in to be the team. Like ORob said above, that’s how teams come together and get on a roll after playing some games together. We never have that.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I agree that nothing we do seems to work out
that is why you wipe it clean now

      I mean come on – They’ve had a chance
I don’t believe that people can reasonably argue that with more time, things might gel

the direction they claim to be heading – hasn’t shown up on the field

there is no light at the end of the tunnel where they are heading

Its never utopia in the NFL
but there big difference between having a vision and just moving shit around to survive another day is huge

      we can score
we can’t keep the other team from scoring

All the stuff about lockeroom culture
that was complete and utter horseshit

The organization is rotten from the top down
I’ve personally seen enough to realize this path isn’t getting us there

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

“I don’t believe that people can reasonably argue that with more time, things might gel” But that’s what you’ll be hoping for with a reboot because it will take time to gel. My point was even if we do that, I’m not confident that works either. It will just be new and different.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

That’s what I’m hoping for either way Tim

But I know the first option hasn’t worked

    Tony Sparano won the division…..

And I suppose Harbaugh will turn this franchise right around huh? failed at his last NFL coaching job and has never been a personnel guy, but what the hell, let’s give him full control becasue Barcalonger Lou says so.

    • D's avatar D says:

I dont see why anyone would be extremely confident in Harbaugh. I think he had a couple of nice years but im not seeing a coach i think has any greater chance for success than many other that would be considered first time or limited experience HC’s. Im ok with Gase getting another couple of years with a new QB. I tink right now its the QB and the coach, but one is changeable without too much trouble, the coach is a more drastic change. Go out, get your guy, let Gase have a couple more years and then shit can his ass if he cant make it happen with his guy that he picked.

  17. D's avatar D says:

We havent really done any true reboots. We have always half rebooted half tried to win this year and it has been awkward and ineffective. You sometimes find yourself where you just have to bit the bullet and make a change and i dont feel we have every truly committed to that.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We did quite a bit of that in 2008 and on during the trifecta regime. We dismantled a lot of that 2007 team and rightfully so.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        I agree with that Tim

        But that was a decade

this then – we avoided that, bc its painful

but we aren’t even close to where we should be now

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      agreed 100%

if they half ass it again this offseason
(Piggy slaps his trotter to his forehead)

Just eat the bullet now – This isn’t working

  18. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Excuse me for waxing philosophical, but we are going into the bye week after all. What has always amazed me on this board is how we are all such great Dolphins fans, but each have different takes on the team and what needs to be done (and that not just football evaluate)…… also react differently as to what is going on at any given time, including game by game.

And none of those reactions or thoughts are wrong in any way. Everyone just has their own way to go about it. Me — try to be realistic. Predicted 8-8 on the season, even if thought making the playoffs just an outside chance. Only difference for me now is going with 7-9 and no way we hit the playoffs.

Crushed by the injuries, but what you gonna do? Last thing would want to do is blow the whole thing up, but then am selfish too. Cause just like watching good games. Maybe am willing to sacrifice a ring future for that each year.

    • D's avatar D says:

I think i was actually optimistic about the return of Tanny and that we would be in a better spot with him. I think i wouldnt be so over this shit if i didnt feel like i was duped again. Thats kind of why i get pissed when people call me a hater, because im not, im just over everytime we have to start the new year conversation with, “Well this should be the year we really see Tanny turn the corner.” It just going to happen and thats fine, it happens. I dont think we can call Tanny a bust but we definitely did not find our franchise guy and i think that we definately made the effort to see if he could be. Maybe he is just snake bit and bad luck follows him around, but im tired of that too. We need a fresh new guy and hopefully the excitement and expectations will be realized this time.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

And if you want a new QB…. then all the power to you. Weird thing about me is just like watching competitive football. Not nearly as tied up in getting another superbowl, even if for sure want that. But maybe that is why am the guy who goes to a good number of games and for whom the Fest is the Superbowl. 🙂

  19. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    WTF is a Dowell Loggains

    Seriously what is it?

If you say he is our OC – I’m going to respond by point out that since he left the Bears, they look like a different world offensively and Trubinsky looks for real

Seriously what is a Dowell Loggains?

This is the useless flesh Gase hired to fix our offense
    He doesn’t call plays
his prior offenses do better without him

We haven’t improved at anything with him and I’m not sure he actually does anything
I don’t think Ive ever seen him on the sideline or in a booth
    where is he?
    Is he a real person?

    WTF is a Dowell Loggains?

Bc I don’t think he’s an OC in anything other than in title

I think he is a pink slip for Adam Gase

It’s a HUGE mistake entering a season where you are trying to turnaround the offense to hire some one with no real power or role simply bc there is connection

    • D's avatar D says:

Im not going to say i think he does much, i really think its still Gase’s show and i think he may only help prep the team during the week with what Gase wants to do. Also as far as the Bears i wont hold him for the success or pin the failures on him, because you might can credit Trubisky’s emergence on him, and you might call the whole offensive failure on him too. ard to tell but for us, i dont think he factors in much at all TBH. No one is going to factor in much until Gase stops being a control freak about the play calling. Nothing has changed on the 3rd and 4th and 1 calls between Christensen and Loggains, so i suspect nothing has changed on who is calling the plays.

I, like Piggy, didn’t watch the game and I’m happier for it. But look on the bright side – the loss has allowed a couple of geniuses who know everything, and those who suck up to said geniuses, the opportunity to gloat and and tell us all “I told you so.” So at least they are happy. If fandom was measured by how many games you attend and how much bitching you do, and how much they think they know about football they would be the kings of fandom.

Hard to win games fielding PS players and 2nd/3rd stringers as starters.

Gase mentioned in his presser, when asked about what can be done to prevent injuries, nothing. They arent getting hurt in practice and they are a rash of all different injuries, not soft tissues, but big season enders.

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

      My worthless $.02…..

Fire Burke. New DC, new scheme.

Stay the course with Gase. Find 2 more QBs to throw in mix with Falk next offseason and go from there.
There will be more OL drafted and brought in just hope they stay healthy.

      • D's avatar D says:

Im in this boat with ya man. In fct i would go QB 2 times in the draft as well, unless we go big and trade up for THE guy. If we stay put and take a 1st rounder without trading up i want to add in another guy like Grier a couple of rounds later. I wouldnt want Grier to be my only selection but i could see it going down like with RG3 and Cousins with taking a guy like Jones in the first, or Lock and then Grier in the 3rd.

    • D's avatar D says:

We have definitely found ourselves on the bad end of the injury bug, but other teams are in the same position as up and they are looking better than us. Its more than just the injuries, though it certainly makes it harder.

Redskins are down both their starting OG’s and they and both backup OG’s. Both their starting OT’s were out last game. They are on their 4th string RB and are down 4 receivers.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I wouldn’t consider the way Peterson is playing is like 4th string. Also in the game they lost their OL guys they got walloped by ATL who is also decimated on defense which is why they can’t win consistently and they have a lot of talent on offense. Injuries to key players makes a big difference.

  30. D's avatar D says:

Tim, their OL are on IR. They have been out extended periods of time. So i guess when i point out a team that is in the same boat there are excuses for why they can continue to play well and we cant. I did forget about Peterson, but they do have 4 RB’s out.

    • D's avatar D says:

BTW the patriots have more out than we do as well. Top contributors, but they are playing well. Its not just about the injuries man, in the NFL teams are going to have years where injuries are going to hit them and they have to be able to roll with it. We look pathetic, its not just injuries causing that

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Washington at 6-3 is pretty good but they are very up and down even some of their wins have been meh. They still have their starting QB though. The injuries ATL has endured on defense has really hurt them.

We were most likely a middle of the road team when fully healthy which never really lasted long, and a possible playoff team. What we have now is a much more inferior team so I’m not surprised we’re 5-5. Like I said earlier, we’re in games early on and then usually fall apart in the 2nd half of games. It’s as if 2nd half adjustments by our opponents detect our weaknesses and exploit them.

I’m not making excuses for the coaches either, much of it may very well be on them but we are playing with an inferior team then the one penciled in on opening day. I didn’t expect us to be a great team this year, I’m more frustrated that we keep losing key players and knowing when watching the games we have little room for error. So what happens on our first drive which was a good one, we get a bad snap close or just inside the red zone, turn it over and instead of scoring whether a TD or a FG, the Packers take it right down the field and it’s 7-0. Boom!!! Right off the bat we allow a momentum change. This team can’t afford that sort of stuff.

Last year I had season club seats knowing I would make maybe two or three games. How often you go to games and how far you go and long you’ve been going makes you a great fan, but it doesn’t make you a subject matter expert on the game and/or the team.

Rizzi has to get the most out of the bottom of the roster and he deals with both offensive and defensive players. I’m almost to the point of saying fire Gase now and promote Rizzi to see if he can salvage the season.

    • D's avatar D says:

I think if there is a chance that Rizzi ever truly becomes HC of this team and it not just be a temporary job, it would pretty much take a Gase firing this year and him stepping in as interim and making the team respectable to close the season. I dont even think it would take getting more wins than expected, just returning to the form of a real team. He seems to be respected around the FO, as he has survived other coaches coming and going, but this year his unit isnt playing extremely well. So he doesn’t have as strong of a argument for long term.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Our STs have been pretty darn good, man.

I don’t think Gase is getting fired I was just saying I could see Rizzi being a solid HC. I won’t be surprised if he is one day even if not in Miami.

  41. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

D, my main point is if you’re a middle of the road and possible playoff team at full strength and you lose as many players as we have, being 5-5 and having some ugly losses isn’t that surprising.

If you would have asked me at the beginning of the season with our team relatively at full strength what would be a realistic record after 10 games I probably would have said 6-4. We’re 5-5 but trending downwards, especially on the road against teams that can score.

I don’t want to get into a debate like I’m on the side of excuses and defending anyone, I’m more like ER, I just see it for what it is. I didn’t think we were going to win yesterday. But there was a window of opportunity to possibly pull it off and as the game went on we couldn’t match them. That also did not surprise me. I’m not pissed off by yesterday’s loss, I’m frustrated that we can’t seem to be the team that gets designed in the offseason. It always comes apart. Two years in a row.

Being none of us have any control over anything this team does, no matter what we do I just don’t expect it to work out. Let’s say Ross says this is not what I hired Gase and his staff for and I want to reboot and start over and I’ve also lost faith in Tannehill as our QB. I’ll go with that flow as most of us will, we’ll all expect some growing pains and a couple of meh or bad seasons, then when it starts to look like it’s coming together I won’t be surprised that we get hit with the injury bug and yet a hopeful season gets derailed. That’s where I’m at.

The 2016 season surprised the shit out me when we started off 1-4. Never saw that coming. Whatever it is we have not had good fortune to build on that. This coming from the guy everyone thinks is Mr. Positive. That’s not always the case. LOL

  42. New Age's avatar New Age says:

One of my biggest questions, what does our strength and conditioning program look like here? Puloka was the asst until Gase arrived and he got his big break in 2016. We’ve been extremely injury prone ever since.

Are the players dominating anyone? Are they getting the work needed to stay healthy in grueling games? Is there anyone besides Wake who showed up and stayed in better shape after coming here? Sitton was a fluke…until the entire OL went under, Hayes didn’t last a month…again! Parker never stays healthy Why isn’t this a huge deal for this coaching staff?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If it was the same type of injuries maybe there would be a red flag, but it’s an assortment of different football injuries that nobody can control. It really is a luck thing that you have that magical season or the right core players who can overcome them and next man up still keeps you rolling. We haven’t gotten to that point, obviously!

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

we need better depth on the OL, something we may acquire in next years draft

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I agree that injuries are a part of the NFL but I continue to see guys that don’t get injured. There are about 400-450 injuries every year which averages out to about 13-15 a team. We seem to be way past that for two years straight.

When was the last time you saw Suh get injured? He’s in the think of things every game. Maybe he is just lucky. There’s a lot that get injured but we have some that stay that way. Do they not rest enough? Come back too early? Re-condition their injuries wrong? I’m not sure but I’d definitely look into it. Why can’t Parker stay healthy for even a 10 game stretch over FIVE years? It seems beyond snakebit to me but maybe I’m just frustrated.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Totally agree with New Age. This many injuries really makes me wonder what we are doing with strength and conditioning. It also makes me wonder what our personnel guys in terms of talent evaluation. Are we missing red flags about injury history and likelihood of injury?

We all saw the awkward dip in Wilson’s movement on a nice gain being tackled when he got hurt. Hayes tore his ACL trying not to put his weight on Carr with that ridiculous rule, and Tannehill got driven into the ground on a sack. Parker yesterday had the same thing happen when being tackled. Sitton and Kilgore have arm injuries and Larsen has a neck injury. Tunsil has a knee and James a leg strain. These guys aren’t machines, they’re humans. Nothing anyone can do about any of it.

  47. drg's avatar drg says:

    Pig,

The problem, at least on offense, is Gase has a legit excuse. He hasn’t really had a full season with Tannehill to get a sense for where it could go. I fully supported letting Landry and Suh walk last season given the $ involved. It was probably less of a “culture” issue and more of a financial one relative to their production.

Again, not going to argue the reset approach isn’t the correct one. It probably is… I’ve seen the difference it makes when you finally get the right HC or QB in place. The problem is how difficult it is to find them, but you never do unless you keep trying.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Most of the moves (Suh, Landry, Pouncey) were about money not culture. Ajayi annoyed the shit out of Gase because he went off script too many times and was more about his own personal stats and not team results. He also sucked as a blocker and wasn’t a reliable receiver. Phillips’ lack of work ethic caught up with him. That’s it! Too much is made of this. Like Phillips changes our defense. Please! LOL

To me, Alonzo, McMillan and Baker are our LBs moving forward and they should be. I also think Howard, McCain, Fitz, Jones and McDonald are the main DBs. Sure we could add another corner. But we could use a young stud inside up front in the rotation.

Why did we even bother drafting Gesicki if Adam Gase is going to mandate his QBs 2.x seconds to get rid of the ball, due to not addressing the O-Line (pass-pro, in particular)?

Gesicki is SOFT. He gets pushed off his route every time.

    Towards the end of a
round of golf, Dave hit his ball into the woods and found it
in a patch of pretty, yellow buttercups.

    Trying to get his ball
back in play, he ended up thrashing just about every buttercup
in the patch. All of a sudden … POOF!! In
a flash and puff of smoke, a little old woman appeared.

    She said, “I’m Mother
Nature! Do you know how long it took me to make those
buttercups? Just for doing what you have done, you won’t have
any butter for your popcorn for the rest of your life. Better
still, you won’t have any butter for your toast for the rest
of your life. As a matter
of fact, you’ll never have any butter for anything for the
    rest of your life!!!”

    Then POOF! … she was
    gone!

    After Dave recovered
from the shock, he hollered for his friend, “Fred, where are
    you?”

Fred yells back, “I’m over here in
    the pussy willows.”

    Dave shouts back, “DON’T
SWING, Fred! For the love of God, DON’T SWING!!!”

      • D's avatar D says:

He’s my dark horse guy as far as getting a first round talent in a later round, but thats also not a risk im gambling with this next draft. It would take something incredible to happen to prevent em from going QB with the first pick.

        I’m not enamored with Grier!

That just seems wrong to me. He’s hired back in the same season as he was fired by a rival team after being so integrated in the game planning, etc. To me that seem like that should be considered some sort of breach of a non-disclosure agreement.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Not following you. The Browns fired him, right? He’s free to sign anywhere he wants. Why shouldn’t he be? If CLE didn’t want that, they didn’t have to fire him in the middle of the season.

  96. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think QB has to be a priority next season. We don’t have to go RD 1, but man, it should be at the top of the list. We’re never going to go anywhere without a top QB, whether Gase is here or not. I haven’t seen a lot of evidence that Gase deserves to stay either.

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

I think Gase can stay, but Burke has to go. Defense looks lost every game, where I think the offense just looks outmatched.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

We are hideous against the run, but that’s with Godchaux and a bunch of castoffs at DT, and 2 DE’s that historically are weak against the run, better pass rushers. Pair that with 2 rookie LB’s, I think that might explain some of the trouble against the run. We’ve been pretty good against the pass, especially considering we have no pass rush.

      • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

We sucked with Suh here. Fitzpatrick is helping against the pass this year, the secondary is 1 CB away from being excellent. But there is way too much miscommunication out there. Whether they are picking the wrong gaps or whatever it may be. I’d like a new DC and new scheme, this one sucks.

Most of the times when you work for a company that that has competition and leaving that company could expose trade secrets, ie intellectual property, they make you sign a non-disclosure agreement and a no-compete where you agree to not work for a competitor until a period of times has passed. Im surprised this isnt considered one of those scenarios, with the Bengals being a divisional rival of the Browns.

    • D's avatar D says:

Also if there arent such agreements then the Browns are fucking retarded to leave that shit open like that.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

D – As far as I know, ALL of those agreements are in place if the person quits, but if the employer fires that person, pretty sure all of that goes out the window. If that weren’t case, the Browns would have blocked that from happening. It’s meant to protect the employer if someone decides to leave and open their shop. If you fire that person, the non-compete agreement no longer exists, because you just ripped up the agreement you had by firing them.
