2018 Season – Game 14 – Dolphins @ Vikings

WOW!  What an amazing finish to the Dolphins vs Patriots game.  That one easily slots historically among some of the best games I have seen this team play.  Even if we lost this game, we went punch for punch with the Patriots all day long, but we came up with a Rocky II ending.  Not sure if you all noticed, but we scored more than 30 points for the first time in regulation, and we did against the Patriots!  Crazy!

Ryan Tannehill.  Forget about the future, this young man deserves a lot of credit for his toughness and grit he’s displayed this season.  You could see he was hurting, and I admire his resolve to stick it out, and help his team to victory.  He’s been getting beat up all season, but like a Timex, he takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

OK, down to business.  This game, aside from the excitement meant a lot to me as a fan.  These are the games in the last decade that we would crumble and succumb to the pressure of needing to win and stay alive, and this team pulled out a stunner against the TD + favorites New England Patriots.  They were clutch.  They made plays, and they got contributions from the QB.  We were missing arguably our best defensive player (Xavien Howard), and it showed, but we did just enough to win.  I think Gase earned some respect yesterday.  Smoke and mirrors, we’re -55 in points and we’re 7-6.  Crazy!  What we as Dolphins fans have to hope is that this game was a springboard to a playoff run.  If we can beat NE when it counts, then no other game on the schedule is impossible

Despite the fact that it will be about 30 degrees at kickoff next Sunday against the Vikings, the game will be in a domed stadium, US Bank Stadium, so the weather won’t be a factor.  It will definitely be loud, but we can overcome that.  The Vikes have had an up and down season, and they face the Seattle Seahawks this evening in Seattle.  At the moment, the Vikings are 6-5-1, and although they have showed the potential to score, their last 3 games they have scored 20, 24 and 10, and have lost 2 of 3.  Kirk Cousins has done well for the Vikes, but RB Dalvin Cook has been battling injuries, and that leaves the much less explosive Latavius Murray as the lead back.  WR Adam Thielen is totally in sync with Cousins, and they have been one of the best if not the best QB/WR duos in the NFL this season.  Thielen has 98 receptions, 1166 yards and 9 TD’s.  We will desperately need CB Xavien Howard back for this game.

As I said in my blog article this past week, the New England game was a statement game, and the statement was “We’re still in this Dolphins fans, stay with us, keep rooting hard, and something special may happen”

I watched the game at my nephew’s house, and although the video is a little rough, it captured that crazy ending, and your faithful “Crazy Dolphins Fan” again.  It’s just funny. Some moments are just humorous when captured on video.  None of us had any idea we were being videotaped by his little Nest camera.

Great video. I was the same way, my wife came running out, “what’s going on”, we won, we won I yelled as I was jumping up and down. Everyone started texting me, it was great.
We need to beat Minny to go 2-2 against the NFC North.

  5. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

So many great performances in this game!!!

    — Tannehill was BALLIN’, throwing the ball downfield!!!
    — Brandon Bolden (who’s Twitter handle is BB_HulkSmash) had the game of his life!!!
    — Kiko Alonso was everywhere on Defense!!!
    — Akeem Spence was a force!!!
    — Frank Gore moved the chains!!!
    — Ted Larsen with an incredible downfield block on the game-winning play!!!
    — Kenny Stills with 135 yards receiving on the day, who set up the “Miami Miracle” with an incredible move before his lateral to DeVante Parker!!!
    — Cam Wake and Robert Quinn with key pressures throughout!!!
    — Matt Haack, after 2 blocked punts, went rugby-style with effectiveness (including a 57-yarder)!!!
    — Walk Aikens was KILLER on special teams as our gunner!!!
    — DRAKE!!! DRAKE!!! DRAKE!!!

  9. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

So there I was, palm to forehead with 7 seconds left in the game, peering at the TV. We’ve gotta either throw the Hail Mary now or take a very quick shot to the sidelines. Tanny throws to the middle of the field and I said, “Done”.

To my surprise, Stills laterals it to DeVante after making a nice move. Alright, DeVante isn’t going to do anything except maybe make a forward pass, killing it all. He laterals it to Drake. Drake’s going to get tackled by the first Defender. Wait… he broke it. He’s running to the middle of the field… bad idea. He circles back toward the sideline. FOOT RACE!!! He doesn’t have the angle, he’s going to get knocked out of bounds! HOLY $HIT, the afterburners are coming on!!! CAN… HE… DO… IT…
    FUNK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I then go on an uncontrollable fit of screaming, “BALLHAWK!!! BALLHAWK!!! BALLHAWK!!!”. Nah, just kidding about screaming ballhawk… but I certainly was left in shock!!! Just… WOW!!! 😀

“Even if we lost this game, we went punch for punch with the Patriots all day long”

And that’s the thing. Even if the ending was exciting as anything — this was not “a cheap” victory. No pick 6s, fumble return TDs, or kickoffs or punts busted. Heck — there were no turnovers and total yards were the same.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Exactly Stanger, this was a well fought victory. Really amazing considering how many guys are out on our side, and some key players too, like Howard.

  14. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

In the locker room afterwards, they chanted TED TED TED for Larsen throwing the winning block about 50 yards downfield.

He said when he got down there, he was looking to throw a block and that he was praying they would not lateral the ball to him.

So it looks as though either the Chefs* or Chargers are going to win the 5th playoff spot (1st Wildcard). That leaves either the Ravens or Stealers* (contingent on which one of them wins the AFC North) pitted against us Phins, the Colts (the Colts own the tie-breaker against us), and the Titans (we own the tie-breaker against the Titans).

I think we want to root for the Ravens to win the AFC North (facing the Bucs, Chargers, and Browns). That would leave the Stealers* (facing the Patsies*, Saints, and Bengals… and likely losing 2 of those games) behind us.

Colts (facing the red-hot Cowboys, resurgent G-Men, and Titans) don’t have an easy schedule… hope they lose 2 or more.

I’m not worried about the Titans, they should flame out and we own the tie-breaker.

If we handle our biz against the short-week Vikes, the floundering Jags, and away at the Bills, we’ve got a very good chance to make it as the 6th seed in the AFC playoffs.

Yesterday’s win was GIGANTIC for us!!!

Thanks Tim – Yeah, I’m sure we all did practically the same thing. My nephew mentioned to me that he probably had it recorded because they have the Nest to keep an eye on their baby if they’re in another room, so I asked him to show it to me, and he played it right on his TV, and he was able to send it over to me via text. It was just so crazy, unbelievable.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s awesome. I got a text from my B-I-L a minute after saying I hope you just saw that. I replied “Oh Yeah :)”, he says that makes your WHOLE season and I replied that’s why we follow sports. Such a good feeling to see our team pull that off especially against the Pats. I wish there was more footage of fans reactions, those at the game or watching on TV in bars or at home.

The play was called “Boise”, Gase saw it back in 2007 when Boise State pulled it off so he called it yesterday. 🙂

ok …..who are you and what have you done with Mike?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m just giving the guy the credit he deserves right now. Not sure I want to give him an extension or anything, but if he continues to play like he has, he’s got to be in the plans for next season. We can take it from there next year.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think unless he suffers some serious injury he is already in the plans for next season.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Josh Allen isn’t going to survive running as much as he does. He’ll take a damaging hit one of these times.

  45. Randy's avatar Randy says:

The Vikes have been having a problem keeping their defensive backfield healthy. Their front 4 are as good as anybody. Their DEs could be a serious handful. But, we may be able to exploit their Dbacks.
    ****
I’m not sure how we’ll stand up against their receivers. They’re all good. We need to find a pass rush. Cousins hasn’t been great behind a suspect OL.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah we didn’t get much of a pass rush on Brady until later in the game and even then it wasn’t very good. But the Pats OL always finds a way to protect him regardless of personnel. Maybe we can get after Cousins more. We’ll get a feel for how the Vikings are playing tonight.

  46. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Haskins, especially with Urban stepping down, will most likely or at least should enter the draft.
I wish Murray would play football, I’ve never seen him play baseball but I have to believe he’s better at football. Can he hit a big league curveball?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

You can strike out 200-250 times and that’s acceptable these days. Just hit .260 and hit 20 or more HR’s and you’re golden. How effed up is that?

      • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

I guess you’re right about that. Everyone thinks they’re Dave Kingman nowadays.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The game of baseball is about power pitching with a few exceptions, power hitting and walks. Very few teams hit and run and steal bases. Pitchers are 5-6 innings on pitch counts and then the bullpen. It’s kind of sad. As annoying as it was, I enjoyed watching the Mets have to compete with the fast running Cardinals teams back in the 80’s.

  47. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

I think this will be our first time facing Cousins. Good pressure will get him throwing picks.

Not sure this will work but I’ll give it a shot.

  50. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

That was a completely different game than it is today (Cards of the 80’s) It’s like comparing football from the 60’s and 70’s to what it is now. Not even close.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I know, it’s like a big part of the game was washed away. It was even more dramatic back then. Today it’s so simple – strikeout, walk, HR or done.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Far too many pitchers don’t even have a clue (especially Mets pitchers) how to hold a runner, and have a good move to first. Most Mets pitchers can’t do either.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s not just Mets pitchers, but we have big hard throwing starters. They have big windups or elongated and weird ones like Noah Syndergaard. I’m not sure what he’s doing? It’s like he’s pitching from the stretch but really slow.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

LOL – That’s true about Syndegaard, but it’s like they don’t want to screw with mechanics anymore. They would take his delivery and cut it shorter years ago, now they just leave it be.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

What is this and also Kirshaw has a weird windup?

  51. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
I’ve seen every Vikings game this year….kinda not much choice. Lol
    ***
MN has been inconsistent this year….kinda like us. Their OL has been poor to average, but they are probably playing better now than they have all year. Their defense can still pretty damn good. Hunter is a beast and Griffin can be….eventhough he’s had some health issues this year and isn’t playing as good as usual. Weatherly has actually been playing pretty good for them this year too. Hunter against James will be huge. He’ll probably need help. Hunter is becoming an all pro type guy. He’s really good against the run too. I’m hoping their DBs struggle. It’s probably their weakness, as their LBers are pretty good too. They’ve had some injury issues.
    ***
I would think they are gonna try to get Theilen singled in the slot…and Rudolph can beat Kiko any day of the week. Baker might be able. It will be interesting to see how we decide to cover them. If you double Theilen, they have guys who can beat you elsewhere. If you play straight up, Theilen has been killing it. You pull up a safety and Rudolph or Diggs beats you deep. If they can get Cook going on the ground, they can be really hard to stop. He’s also good catching it out of the backfield. We will need to show we can stop the run, or it’ll be a long day.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Good break down, man. I made a mistake in FF letting Theilen go in the offseason to triple up at RB. Drake was my 3rd behind Gurley and Kamara. Drake hasn’t been a disappointment but Theilen would have maybe helped me go undefeated. I have a 24 point lead with my opponent and he has Cook going tonight. I had some ho-hum performances from my RB and WR/TE. I’m playing a 5-8 team – I finished 9-3-1 and 2nd in scoring. If Cook has his breakout game tonight I’ll be bummed.

  52. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike, I think Syndegaard should be using more of a Dwight Gooden, Nolan Ryan or Roger Clemens approach. Syndegaard is a weight lifter and specifically squats and legs. At 6-6 fully body windup with that arm would be on hitters in a very uncomfortable way. He seems more arm throwing right now.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I agree with you 100%. I don’t like it at all. There’s absolutely no deception or hiding the ball. A big launch (stride) towards home plate with the ball behind him would make him much more unhittable

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Don’t you feel he’ll balk at any moment with that weird foot movement?

I WAS IN SOME real difficulty Saturday evening. SOMETHING was causing me to cough almost uncontrollably (NO, it wasn’t a photo of Steve Ross)! Sunday morning I went to a walk-in medical facility and, long story short, the physician ordered an ultra strong cough medicine that somewhat controlled my cough. “Don’t do anything wild or crazy today and you SHOULD be OK by tomorrow,” he admonished me.

SO what did I do? I watched the Dolphins game on TV!

ANYWAY, for about 4 hours, my cough DISAPPEARED. Then, with about a minute or so left, the official called PASS INTERFERENCE AGAINST MIAMI. I started to cough!! But I ran and took a shot of medicine and settled down to watch the last few plays of the game. “The Dolphins really have no chance,” said Mrs. OD. Although logic said she was right, my mind wandered back to the San Diego/Miami playoff game–a game I attended and will NEVER FORGET!! “Nah, too corny. Those miracles only happen ONCE in a lifetime” I told myself.

ABOUT 30 seconds later, the stadium exploded as the Miracle In Miami became a reality.
LESSON LEARNED?? – – Miracles can happen MORE THAN ONCE IN A LIFETIME!!!
NOW, if I am granted ONE MORE MIRACLE, the Dolphins will win the third Super Bowl during my lifetime. AND I WILL BE THERE TO SEE IT!!

Hard to say if that’s good or bad for us.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And what I mean by that, is their Offensive ineptitude could have continued against us this Sunday. On the other hand, the interim OC may come out with guns blazing… or, he may be a mere shadow of what John DeFilippo brought to the table.

Really difficult to say. Let’s hope for the best!

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I had the same thought process, not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing for us.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

They were talking about the strained relationship between the OC and Zimmer all night. Not sure how inaccurate passes and dropped balls are the OC’s fault though.

We need to get a pass rush going in MIN as it seems their OL is also having issues.

That offends me.. Why can’t it be a Monkeyfight ? 🙂

because people get fired for saying shit like monkeyfight ask Howard Cossel.

  77. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t think it makes a difference either way. The OC getting fired was a sacrifice move at this point of the season. Either they play better or they don’t, the OC won’t be why they win or lose

  78. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    LOL @ Phindog

  79. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike, I know the Mets are hot for Catcher J.T. Realmuto. I do not want to trade Syndergaard though and do not want to see him with the Yankees. Yuk!

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I can’t be on board with that move. I think Realmuto is under control until 2020, I think Syndergaard is until 2021. I know Realmuto is a good catcher, he’s excellent defensively, and he can hit too. If you think Syndergaard will get better, and pitch more innings, you can’t even consider this. If you think he’s not going to pitch more than 150 innings any given season, maybe you do

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s the way team’s are looking at things these days. Even though pitching is still considered most important, the quality everyday player is valued more now due to the lack of innings most pitchers pitch now. I guess we’ll see.

Sheesh, it’s a good thing we took Jamar Taylor over my guy Terron Armstead! LOL

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And of note, we settled for Dallas Thomas a mere two picks after Armstead went off the board. SMH

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Dion Jordan killed that draft for us, and then we kept killing it. We were set up to do great things, except we shat the bed. Many Samurai were sacrificed as well, just ask Piggy

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Except Armstead wasn’t considered a 2nd rd pick in that draft, he went mid 3rd. It’s easy to play the hindsight game. As a consolation we do have Kiko (2nd rd) and T.J. McDonald (3rd rd) from that draft.

  81. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I advanced in my FF league as well. It’s strange, both games are rematches of the final week of the season. So I get a chance for redemption losing the division title in the final week. But my friend has a really good team so it won’t be easy.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

My team died on me, I had Russell Wilson, if he put up a decent game, I won. Sony Michel was a letdown as well, but that was a good letdown. 🙂

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Knew lost after one play cause my opponent had Drake going. I was cool with that.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I actually had Drake, but we were using him so infrequently, I didn’t put him in. I still would have lost though, but not by much.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I still would have lost too, but absent that play would have been real interested in how Chris Carson did for the Seahawks….. but heck would not have liked the answer.

  82. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

M – The funny thing is I hate Parcells for Ireland, I don’t hate Ireland. Parcells was very lazy assembling our team. I didn’t like any of what he did.

  83. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – how many teams are in your league, 10 or 12?

  84. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Tim,

Hindsight works both ways, ya know!!! Seems I messed up on Amerson (still feel injuries derailed him, but it is what it is), but was dead-on with Armstead!

Can’t use the term “hindsight” to blindside what some saw that others did not.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

      Oh yeah… 😀

Can’t diss me on Amerson and not give me props for Armstead! 😀

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m not dissing you about anything. But hindsight is what it is. You can go back to all drafts and say this guy in the 4th is better than some 1st rd picks. Happens all the time. That’s why I don’t get crazy about draft positions. Teams that are perennial playoff teams pick at the bottom every year and they still find quality players to keep their teams going.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m not talking about Draft positions, man. I took Armstead in the 2nd round with one of our two 2nd round picks. You don’t remember my final mock, do ya? Not that I expected ya to, LOL! 🙂

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

No I do not, but I do know you liked him and 100 other other prospects. LOL

  85. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

LOL @ ER – I was pretty stoked. It was a disaster. I think we went in with a 1st RD pick, two 2nd RD, two 3rd RD, and then 1 in each RD. Not ONE of them has had a good NFL career,

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s crazy that Dion Sims and Mike Gillislee have probably had the best careers from that 2013 draft and they are both average at best.

  86. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – Our league has 9 keepers. Not sure I like it that either, because the draft is basically rookies and veteran castoffs.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah a bunch a guys in our league would hate that. Some of them who don’t really do their homework for the draft say stuff like “there is nothing but crap left” when we’re in the mid rounds yet those of us who do research sleepers don’t feel that way. 🙂

  87. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

What is the last thing Gase says in that post game speech when everyone cheers?

  88. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Never been in a keeper league — but seems at some point you lose the folks who didn’t keep the right ones. One thing like about a fresh draw league is that has that “we’ll get’m next year” factor. Equal chance for all, including when you are trying to get new players.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It gives you a chance to build some sort of a franchise. Most of the time the top of our draft is drafting the new crop of rookies. We still all have to select 12 positions every year so there is plenty of turnover. It’s worked well for us as many different guys have won championships.

  89. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Stanger – In our keeper league, it’s the rookies and then sometimes veterans who have value, but people just got tired of. People were pretty tough about trades in our league.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Here’s an example. My friend who I battled for the division last game of the season and will play in the 2nd rd of the playoffs this week finished dead last in 2017 and picked 1st this year. He took Barkley and landed Mahomes at some point in the draft and he’s a top team now. So it works for us.

By the way, I had the choice of Mahomes and Garoppolo as my backup to Rodgers and took Garoppolo. Doh!!!

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I drafted Garoppolo late in my draft too. I thought he was going to have a great season after last year. Injuries you can never plan for though

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Not the keeper league, my other league. I have Wentz and Cousins in the keeper league, couldn’t trade Cousins even when he was playing well.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Same reason I drafted him. I knew the Chiefs were high on Mahomes and that’s why they traded Alex Smith but man, who knew he’d be having a 1984 Marino type season. Obviously if I had taken Mahomes he’d be my starter and Rodgers my backup.

  90. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Not saying wouldn’t want to be in a keeper league, but am thinking about transition. And chances are whoever is not doing well with not so good a roster is the one who will want out. But maybe you guys are just good buddies and not an issue.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We are all good friends but I just gave the example of going from worst in 2017 to the 2nd seed in 2018. Everyone knows it can happen because most of us all have 4 quality keepers and if you finished poorly you get the early shots at the rookie crop and that can change your team along with good drafting to fill out your roster. We have 16 man rosters and 8 start in the games so it can be done. The guys who mess up are the ones who don’t do their due diligence and that’s on them.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Glad it works for you guys. In my 12-team league we aren’t exactly all friends but most of us know each other. Same time every year one or two drop out and the Q comes up…. “know anyone who might be interested?” If was a keeper with a bad roster might be more difficult to get them to fill in.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah we’ve had turnover of guys and gal in our league too over the years. I think it’s 6. There are only 5 of us in our league that are originals. One of them left and came back. So only 4 of us have been in the league every year since its inception.

  91. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I just looked at our draft results. I took Garoppolo in the 8th, this guy Frank took Mahomes in the 10th RD. Talk about value!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yep and me not taking Mahomes is why I lost the division and have to play him again in the playoffs this week. Yikes!

Another conundrum I have is Rodgers is playing in CHI and I have the Bears DEF so I might go with Trubisky against the Packers instead. He had an off first game back after missing two games but I feel like he might have a rebound game. I just had that matchup last week with Gurley against the Bears DEF and they shut that entire Rams offense down. The Bears DEF is so far ahead of every other DEF in scoring that I can’t not start them. They have 212 points – 20th overall in our league at any position, the next best DEF is the Rams at 158 and my other DEF is the Ravens at 139.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

That is a tough decision. You never know with Rodgers, but against CHI, I’d go with Trubisky too. It’s definitely a decision that could backfire badly, because Rodgers can pull a great game out of his ass sometimes, even when he shouldn’t,

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yep I’m well aware. The thing about Rodgers though is he has only scored 20 pts or more (21) once in his last 7 games. Trubisky has been inconsistent but also has some monster games. That’s going to be a gut feeling decision Sunday morning.

Minnesota’s issue is their OL. It ain’t good.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah it didn’t look good last night. If we can protect Tannehill enough and have a serviceable running game, and take advantage of that Vikings OL and struggling offense, I think we can come away with a win. It won’t be easy, but it’s doable.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I know you’ve said you’ve watched all of their games… and I didn’t even need consensus NFL opinions to have already trusted your eyes, man. It’s time to bring a venerable pass-rush this Sunday.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The Vikings have plenty of weapons on offense and good personnel on defense. If we don’t play well in the trenches we won’t win. No matter how much the game has changed that is still where it all starts.

  95. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The bottom line is under Gase, Tannehill has had his most efficient and productive games. They are 13-8 together. Gase is 10-14 with every other QB he’s had to start. Not saying that it’s all about Tannehill, but them’s the stats. 🙂

  96. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
Zimmer, by the reports, has been asking his OC to run more for weeks. Word up here is that it is a big reason he was let go. If true, I’d expect them to come out running a lot. Minnesota’s guard play has been terrible. Their tackles, when healthy, have been okay….beatable but okay. Quinn needs to beat my Iowa boy Reiff. Cousins is playing scared, and he almost never runs to make plays.
    ****
Their defense can be dominant. I’m not sure how much we’ll be able to score if they are on their game….and they’ll be playing at home…so I expect them to be. We have got to find a way to stay out of 3rd and medium or long. MN is very good on third downs. If we can somehow score against this defense, it will be a very good sign for our offense.
    ***
And just to pretend I’m M13 for a bit, I loved Harrison Smith coming out of college and that kid is playing great. Zimmer does do many things with him it’s ridiculous. I truly see Minkah as a guy who could be used the same way.

  97. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    M13,
The Vikes have had some injury issues on the OL, but they just haven’t played very good. Much like us, their guard play has been pretty bad. O’Neill has actually been a nice surprise for them at RT. Elflien has missed games and been a bit inconsistent, but it’s really been their guards who have been their biggest problem. Cousins is jumpy because of all the pressure he’s faced, so if we can get pressure on him early, I think we can disrupt their offense. I still look for them to run more this game, so we’ll see how it plays out.
