2018 Season – Game 15 – Jaguars @ Dolphins

2 more games to go, but now the Dolphins will just play these games with no pressure, no worry, because the playoffs have slipped away. I’m not even angry, I think the team mustered what they could with a depleted lineup, and there was no crushing, disappointing loss to an inferior team at the end like losing to the Bills or the Jets with the playoffs right in our grasp. This season we traveled to Minnesota to play the Vikings, and while the Vikings aren’t a juggernaut, they were at least healthier than we were. I thought we had a shot if we had CB Xavien Howard healthy, but he was unable to play, which made me doubt our chances. Rightfully so.

Minkah Fitzpatrick was forced into much more corner duty than usual due to the Howard injury, and although he had a pick 6, he’s still learning and is definitely taking his lumps too. The Vikes have 2 excellent receivers in Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs, and both schooled him during the game. Nothing wrong with that, Minkah really didn’t play a lot at CB at Bama, and he’s played sparingly on the boundary here in MIA. Expecting him to cover either of those guys all day is a lot to ask.

Now that RB Frank Gore is done for the season, the Dolphins can take a better look at Kalen Ballage, and maybe Kenyan Drake will get more touches too. I still feel like Drake is underused, and has been all season. I think it’s also possible that our Pro Bowl corner, Xavien Howard might be done, Cornell Armstrong and Torry McTyer will get their chance to make some hay, or on the negative side, make it obvious we need to draft more CB’s.

Although we will probably end up either .500, or below .500, I’m at peace with it. Too many injuries, and just not enough talent to make up for it. I still think we should make QB a priority next season. It doesn’t mean we have to take one with our 1st pick, but if the right guy is there, go get him. There are a number of needs, obviously the O-line is a need, but we can’t draft 2 OG’s and an OC all in one draft. We’re going to have to once again acquire more O-line in FA, and we have a huge decision with Ja’Wuan James. I’d prefer to sign James. James has missed time every other year, and if the pattern continues, it will happen next year, but I don’t want to lose him. I don’t believe in the pattern, and I also don’t think you should let your good players that you draft go.

We need defense next year. Crazy to think that young 6th RD draft pick Vincent Taylor was our best DT. When he was injured, things really went south, but the late FA pick ups starting coming around (Ziggy Hood, Sylvester Williams), but neither are signed through next year. That leaves us thin and in need on the D-line, with Godchaux, Spence and Taylor. We also scooped up DT Kendrick Norton from the Panthers PS, so he will get a look in the next 2 games as well. Norton is a big run stuffing DT, but doesn’t offer a lot as far as pass rush abilities. Still, watching the Dolphins get gashed all season by opposing teams run games, sounds like Norton is just what the doctor ordered, although temper that somewhat, as Norton was a 7th RD pick still on someones practice squad.

We have some tough decisions on DE. I love Cam Wake, but he needs to simply be a role player, not a starting DE at this point of his career. He would probably more effective as a pass rusher in a part time role at his age. Robert Quinn is due nearly $13M. No way is he worth that, but dammit, we have no depth there, and Charles Harris is still freaking M.I.A. I could see Quinn gone, and maybe they just throw Harris in as the starter on one side and draft another DE early for the other side. Wake in part time duty, and possibly a re-sign of William Hayes.

I’m happy to be not angry at our team for a change, but I think changes are coming. Gase has earned another year at a minimum, and although Ryan Tannehill did his best, and he will most likely be back next season, his replacement must be found. He’s a gamer, and a warrior, but he’s not special. Find special. The best NFL teams have Special, and the others keep looking for it. We need to identify and find Special, or our team never will be. Whether it’s Herbert, Lock, Haskins, Grier or Finley, find him. We don’t have to take a QB in the 1st RD, maybe Special is in the 2nd or 3rd RD, it’s possible. Try and find it.

In the next 2 games, I want to see Kendrick Norton, Kalen Ballage, Kenyan Drake, Brice Butler, Isaiah Ford, Cornell Armstrong and Torry McTyer. Heck, let’s take a look at David Fales too, why not? How about with 2 games left, put Charles Harris in as the starter. Just do it, see if the kid shows a little something, prime him for next season. I’m not angry with the team, but Harris and his lack of production/playing time makes me angry. Get him in there!

Lol, at Lofton. I don’t know if it’s really good defense or really bad offenses.

  2. New Age's avatar New Age says:

It is nice to see our offense firing on all cylinders today. We’ve passed the barrier of 100 yards in a half that all successful offenses need. I’m feeling good about our chances against this juggernaut.

  3. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

WHAT A PATHETIC DISPLAY OF FOOTBALL BY BOTH TEAMS!!!
I THINK A LOSS TODAY (or even a close victory) should be the last nail in Gase’s and T-BOMB’s caskets!! FIRE ‘EM!
    —————-
But if history means anything, BOTH of them will get pay raises and extensions before Ross is forced to fire them (in the mold of Sparano and Ireland).
    UNBELIEVABLE!!!

  4. D's avatar D says:

We were getting yards when all we were doing was running and running g pass plays that didn’t require much of the QB. Why we stop is only something Gase knows

  5. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

MY GUY JALEN DAVIS with the sack!!!

  6. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Penalties have killed a couple of drives for us. I think we can move the ball on this team but we have to stop the penalties

  7. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

When a team punts and the other calls a fair catch, why does the ref always throw that thing to mark the spot when it never lands where the receiver caught the ball but they still mark it where they caught the ball and not where the thingy lands. LOL

  8. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m enjoying this game. Anyone else? Sometimes it’s about field position.:)

  9. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I think that was a fumble

  10. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

That might be a fumble dammit

  11. D's avatar D says:

Shit I think that was a fumble but it may be closer enough to not overturn

  12. D's avatar D says:

I think they throw the bag saying they have the mark.

  13. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Don’t think there was any blame on that play. Campbell just blew it up. Don’t see how the TE had anytime to react based on where he was lined up.

    • D's avatar D says:

They pulled and the play is supposed to have happened faster so that Campbell couldn’t make the play. Good plat by Campbell and really slow development by us

  14. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Anybody seen the Bunblebee movie? I’m thinking of finding something to do with my afternoon.

  15. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Tim,

I have a question while we watch two terrible teams duke it out for zero reason. If the NFL, popular opinion, etc was right about us being a terrible team at the beginning of the year…what does that say about our leadership at the Dolphins? If Gase somehow makes a terrible team just barely good enough to be average…is that the goal? If Gase had a terrible team, then some kind of change is needed? Maybe not Gase himself, but you are watching this right? This is terrible football.

  16. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Right call

  17. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

They may have a worse offensive line than we do?????

  18. Randy's avatar Randy says:

About time we start taking advantage of their 3rd and 2nd string tackles.

  19. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Dodged a bullet there

  20. D's avatar D says:

They didn’t actually hit him on that penalty

  21. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    4th and 46!!!

  22. D's avatar D says:

They rolled under him. These refs are calling piddly shit today.

  23. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    we smythed them

  24. Randy's avatar Randy says:

What the heck has happened to Tunsil the last handful of games?

  25. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    This is frustrating

  26. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    DENNEY MUST GO

  27. D's avatar D says:

    Just saw OD on TV!

  28. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Those are our starting OTs getting manhandled game after game. Not some random backups but a 5th year and 3rd year.

  29. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I don’t mind that penalty he is basically back to where he caught the ball

  30. D's avatar D says:

Not sure that was tunsils fault. Jackson went inside. Probably was a twist not picked up by the OG

  31. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    D,
Tunsil has been struggling for several games for some reason. He was playing pretty good the first 2/3 of the season. Now, not so much.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

Exactly. It isn’t just this game. Both have been fairly inconsistent overall this year. That shouldn’t be happening at this point for either guy.

  32. D's avatar D says:

Quinn just missed a strip sacked there

  33. D's avatar D says:

That was a perfect time to run a draw or shovel pass

  34. Ken's avatar Ken says:

How do you not block the DE? I mean I saw him coming all the way

  35. 3 plays 3 yards, punt, offense sucks

  36. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Tannehill is barely over 100 yards this week (113), entering the 4th Qtr.

  37. D's avatar D says:

Oh you are talking about the DE pickup on the throw away. Drake had 2 people he was left to block he picked up the blitzing lb. Seems like they had a shift on the protection and it was designed to have Tanny roll with the pocket which he didn’t do

    • D's avatar D says:

It wasn’t a standard static pocket play it was a shifting pocket and he really didn’t roll out with it well. I don’t like that play design either not with the athletic talent they have

  38. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    I’ve got a bad feeling about this…

  39. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Gase needs to let the OC handle play calling

  40. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And there’s Gase… sitting all by himself on the bench again…

  41. D's avatar D says:

Tanny gets too deep in the pocket too. I don’t know why he does that.

  42. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Not much of a taunting call imo

  43. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

Gase sitting there like class is in 5 minutes and he forgot to do his homework.

  44. D's avatar D says:

    Uh oh more yellow

  45. Ken's avatar Ken says:

We are a very undisciplined team

  46. D's avatar D says:

Colts are looking like they are gonna win theirs too

  47. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    This is just sloppy football.

  48. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Man, Hull got trucked.

  49. Dolphins last 6 drives total have netted 66 yards and 0 points. We can’t get first downs

  50. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

    Herd, LOL!

  51. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    herd,
Gase sitting on the bench: “My QB sucks. My OL sucks. I have no idea what play to call. I wonder which insurance I’ll be selling door to door next year.”

  52. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I hope Gase has a game winning drive in that playbook.

  53. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Should have had Jaylen Davis playing before McTyer all season. Like what I see in him.

  54. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Reshad was not taunting on that play at all.

  55. D's avatar D says:

When you struggle against a 4-10 team you aren’t really a 7-7 team that still has a chance at a playoff spot, you are an extremely lucky 4-10 team

  56. D's avatar D says:

Bad throw ballage had some room there

  57. D's avatar D says:

Ouch…that could fucked that knee up

  58. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Well Gase can’t use the “Miracle in Miami” play if he needs it. They will be looking for it. Maybe Gase has a “Get The Fuck Out, What Just Happened” play.

  59. D's avatar D says:

He needs to work on that slide lol

  60. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

That was a turf and ref delay of game not on us!!!!!!!!!

  61. D's avatar D says:

    Stupid throw

  62. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Bullshit penalty

  63. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    FUCK ME……………………….

  64. D's avatar D says:

He should launched that shit. Gave the fans a trophy

  65. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    That’s it.
    I’m done.
    That can’t happen.

  66. D's avatar D says:

It’s over. This is when our team always just collapses

  67. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

    Where’s Randy!

  68. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Good. This should be the final nail for this terrible regime.

    • D's avatar D says:

I could see them changing QBs but only if there is a dark horse coaching candidate out there I don’t expect them to replace Gase.

  69. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    *SIGH*
    😦

  70. We Should have paid Landry, now we can’t even get a single first down, and pick six to boot, SMH

  71. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Tanny just said “Fuck it” on that pass.

  72. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Right before the INT, I was going to mention that Tannehill doesn’t seem right. His eyes aren’t right, his lack of voice pre-snap is clearly sour, and his body language doesn’t look good.

  73. D's avatar D says:

Amendola fighting still. Love that little dude

  74. D's avatar D says:

    Campbell is a fucking beast

  75. D's avatar D says:

Lol holy fuck. Dareus just killed Drake

  76. D's avatar D says:

Lol wtf was that fucking call

  77. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

    Gase looks stupid/lost

  78. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    D,

There is a lot of chatter going on about Ross wanting change. I don’t blame him. This team has looked inept all year, I don’t care about the record and he may not care about burning it all down. We have significantly regressed since Year 1 of Gase. Huge regression and he may blame Gase. Tannehill is the same terrible QB that can’t pull off a 250 yard game unless it’s in practice.

    • D's avatar D says:

Yeah I just heard that I have been on vacay and have been keeping up on the most recent news. Good I’m glad he is considering it. We need to.

  79. D's avatar D says:

What the fuck is going on over there. Maybe Ross is going to flush this toilet bomb.

  80. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    This coaching has become straaange.

  81. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    U – G – L – Y

  82. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Great tackling

  83. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Dolphins making believe they are the team of the last few years when the playoffs are on the line and a W is needed. They’re doing a pretty damn good imitation.

  84. D's avatar D says:

Lol even God hates us right now

  85. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t even care if we go a different direction and fire everyone. The current direction makes me nauseous.

  86. For 4 years I always knew if the team was ever dumb enough to let the record setting first down machine go, the offense would suck, and boy does this offense suck, wow
We Will have to rebuild most of it

  87. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

What a shit show this has become today.

  88. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

HEY ROCKPHIN: Somebody on this board owes me $50.
I’ve seen enough. OUT for now.

  89. D's avatar D says:

I’d fire his ass before the end of the season too just as a statement of dissatisfaction

  90. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    Not this year folks. LOL

  91. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Cody Kessler and his 4-10 garbage squad is lighting us up right now. That’s all Ross needs to see. Gase is lucky it’s Game 15 or he’d probably be out tonight. The FO may not be so lucky.

  92. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Marino looked like he wanted to choke somebody out. Lol

  93. Ken's avatar Ken says:

There are no real good QB options in this draft. Our only option might be to overpay Nick Foles

    • D's avatar D says:

There are plenty of stand in QBs to choose from and that’s what we need. There are plenty of QBs that with a year of coaching will be ready in 2020. I’d get a guy like Fitzpatrick, mccown or Bridgewater. Give them a one or two year modest contract and draft a guy early

  94. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Adam Gase is in SERIOUS trouble right now.

  95. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Who are the coaching candidates? I can not think of a single name that says let’s go get him

  96. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Ken,
Ross is talking to Harbaugh on his phone right now. Harbaugh said he is absolutely going nowhere, so you KNOW something is up. Lol
