The Wedge Scouting Report: Chase Winovich, Edge, Michigan

Man do I love riding my bike across the known universe!

Nothing like a carbon suffocating atmosphere in your tentacles as you run over inferior lifeforms.

And I never need to stop for gas!  This bike has a nonstop motor, kind of like Chase Winovich, the Michigan Defensive End.

The Pros:  At 6-3, 253 pounds, Winovich is being projected at both 3-4 Outside Linebacker and 4-3 Defensive End.  A lot of scouts are noticing Winovich when they are reviewing his teammate Rashan Gary.  And Winovich stands out as a playmaker even though he doesn’t have the natural talent of Gary.

That’s because of his most notable trait – a non stop motor.  Winovich just keeps coming and coming.

But it’s not just effort, it’s technique too.  That is what has helped this overachiever make his way on to many big boards.

At Michigan Winovich used those skills to produce 18.5 sacks, 164 tackles and 43 tackles for a loss over the last three years.  He was consistently productive.

The Cons:  I think it would be cool to draft a guy who looks like Thor and Winovich can bring the hammer, but what he is not is the most naturally talented edge player in this draft which is deep with players who can make up your front 7.

Hight football IQ and a high motor makes up a great story but scouts have noted a lack of lateral mobility that may prevent him from being a premier pass rusher in this league.

The Alien Dust:  I’ve seen him mocked in the first round, usually late first round, but more likely than not, Winovich will be a Day 2 pick.

He will come in to the league more polished than a lot of his colleagues and it would not be odd to see him out up good numbers a rookie.

If the Dolphins don’t take an edge guy early in the draft, Winovich can be a steal on day 2 and can help the Dolphins rebuild defensive line that needs a makeover.

Winovich’s nonstop motor is not to be overlooked – just like this bike I plan to use to roll over Tom Brady!

You guys are still seeing Ajayi through a halcyon lense. Ajayi was talented, but all about himself. Didn’t run plays as called, sulked on and off the field. Where Gase really fucked up was play calling and not using players well.
But I don’t think Ajayi is or ever will be elite. I think Drake properly used has far more upside and Ajayi’s ego would never stand for it.
the reason Ajayi was mad was due to the losses because Gase went away from the run game, Ajayi carried that team on his back in 2016 going 10-6 to make the playoffs.
comparing Ajayi to drake is like comparing Stills to gesicki, two different style players, Drake could not carry a team like Ajayi carried the 2016 dolphins.

  2. Tim Knight says:

He’s probably one of those guys who they say lacks this and that but all he’ll do is make plays in games. This is the kind of player the Pats would draft.

    • The Flying Pig says:

As I was writing this I kept thinking “he’s going to end up being drafted by the patriots”

He’ll probably be drafted at the end of the first or beginning of 2nd so he’s in that area

If they let Hightower go – they will be looking for an edge guy

  3. ocalarob says:

He seems to have the right name….WIN…ovich

  4. ocalarob says:

everyone keeps saying Miami will not draft a QB or get one in FA, they have their sights set on Tua in the 2020 draft.
I disagree with targeting this guy. he has a good compl % but he’s playing on one of the best teams in college football, he’s well protected, not sure how he’ll fare with pressure.

there’s no guarantee that we will even be in a position to draft him.

6’1 220, he’s a little on the short side as well.

  5. Tim Knight says:

Hey it’s about 50 degrees and sunny out. Nice!

  6. stangerx says:

” I think it would be cool to draft a guy who looks like Thor and Winovich can bring the hammer” — LMAO. Who wouldn’t want that? And what is it with those white front 7 guys who have to have that long blond hair? Seems a guy who we would take if we go 3-4 though. Have one undersized high-pick DE already.

  7. ocalarob says:

    RIP, Arthur fonzarelli…the Fonz…Henry Winkler

  8. stangerx says:

The Fonz lives! All started on a website trying to do like the Onion and went from there. Guess the original clear satire got lost along the way.
Henry Beauregard Winkler, also fondly known as Arthur Fonzarelli — or the Fonz — has passed away quietly at his home in Queens. A lifelong member of the NRA and avid Trump Supporter, Winkler spent the bulk of his life alone, reading, making movies, and creating a relationship with God some would never see.

According to family spokesman, Art Tubolls:

“Henry was a loner. He has numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, but his first love was always God and hunting. He spent more time with Charlton Heston in the 80s than any one man should. Last year he spent nearly 4 months in a tent on Ted Nugent’s canned hunt farm. He really loved getting back to nature.”

  9. olddolphan says:

MRS. OD and me just had the pleasure of seeing the movie GREEN BOOK, starring Vigo Mortenson. Those of you who were NOT around in the early 1960’s will get a most interesting look at where race relations were at that point in history. It also provides insights into Italian family issues during that era.
This movie easily is the best I’ve seen during the last two years. A MUST SEE!

  10. The Flying Pig says:

    ORob and Tim

I don’t think it’s so much 1 QB in the 2020 class it’s a few of them, namely the top 3

I’m not completely sold on Tua either
And I don’t like sellingnoir for a player

But Hebert, Fromm and Tua are a nice trio

I’m not saying we try to lose more than everyone else
But I’m not sure it’s not worth drafting DL and OL early this year
And then thinking 1st round QB in 2020

Haskins is the one guy I think puts a wrinkle in this
If he drops to 13 – I think we have to consider drafting him

But I don’t think the other QBs (lock, Grier, etc) are up to that level
And I don’t think it’s wise to trade up this year

The reason we won’t be good next year is just bc we aren’t that good…lol
    I don’t think it’s intentional

  11. olddolphan says:

Highs this week in Tampa Bay will be in the 70’s with lows in the low 60’s. How LUCKY we are to live in FLORIDA!!!

  12. olddolphan says:

JAHNDOH: GREAT to see you on the board. Are you guys grandparents yet??
AM I the only board member putting up a specific prediction for the SB??

  13. ElephantRider says:

    Nice work Piggi

  14. Tim Knight says:

    Rams 30 Pats 26

  15. The Flying Pig says:

    Rams 81
    Patriots 6

  16. BailBondMike says:

Thanks Piggy. I like WINovich. When you watch a Michigan game I am always hearing his name called making a play.

  17. herdfan says:

    Let’s go Rams!

  18. mf13ss says:

    GO RAMS!!!
    HELL YEAH!!!

  19. mf13ss says:

    Suh looks explosive this evening!

  20. The Flying Pig says:

This is probably the worst way for the rams to start

  21. son of a son of a shula says:

    24-21 patsies

  22. mf13ss says:

  23. herdfan says:

Yay! I love that disgusted look on Brady’s face. 😂

  24. mf13ss says:

LOL, William Hayes just loved that mermaid commercial. 😀

  25. herdfan says:

Oooohhh! Another season of Handmaids Take coming soon. It is so good!

  26. mf13ss says:

  27. Jahndoh30 says:

Haha…easy there OD, my daughter is only 14! I’m sure I’ll have the privilege of being a Grandpa someday but I’ll bide my time for now. lol…Cheers bud~

  28. mf13ss says:

    No good… YES!!!

  29. herdfan says:

This is the best game so far. An INT plus a missed field goal. So enjoyable to watch. 🤩

  30. mf13ss says:

Can’t believe Wise didn’t get a flag for the clothesline tackle on play whistled dead, and then again on the very next play for taunting. WOW.

  31. son of a son of a shula says:

A friend got tired of not meeting women so he joined Christian mingle, his screen name is – come get psalm

  32. mf13ss says:

I see Suh playing with a lot of passion out there. I just hope he doesn’t lose his cool.

  33. bookman11 says:

Pats are the best team on the field

  34. mf13ss says:

I’d like to see the Rams stretch the field HORIZONTALLY at this point. Run it outside, for one.

  35. mf13ss says:

William Hayes wishes he was Bo Jackson in that commercial, holding the mermaid who was playing the guitar. 😀

  36. mf13ss says:

  37. bookman11 says:

Pats are going to win this game

  38. Tim Knight says:

Good old fashioned defensive game. I dig it! It makes each score more dramatic in the 2nd half. If they score. LOL

  39. Mike E. says:

What up with Gurley? He has to be more injured than they’re saying. Shame, I would have liked to see him at full tilt in this game.

  40. What’s shakin MF and Bookman, I wish the Rams would try to establish the run game.
Gurley has barely touched the ball, I feel like they need to establish the run game on the first drive of the second half.
Goff has so much pressure on him , the goings rough. Our HC Flores is doing a killer job
he can’t win it alone, and Gurley and Anderson need to move the chains, and Goff can hit a play action pass , screens, etc

  41. Rockphin says:

Man how bad is it when your corporate catch phrase is “it’s ok” to drink this instead of the other stuff…

I mean, no, it’s not. If I get that question “is Pepsi ok” I always say no. LOL

  42. Why can’t someone cover Edelman? Anyone? He’s very elusive, but damn,
There has to be a way to neutralize him, or it’s game over

  43. Mike E. says:

NFL 100 was a great commercial. Really enjoyed that one

  44. mf13ss says:

What up, David?!! Who the hell is on the stage right now? He SUCKS.

  45. Super Bowl halftime show sucks

  46. Crowd surfing rapper, wow that’s special, lol sarcasm

  47. mf13ss says:

    HELL YEAH!!!

  48. I think that dude stepped on that woman’s foot and made her scream, lol

  49. This guys pretty good, that’s outcast?

  50. I only know the rappers with recent mugshots, lol

But I love snoop, he’s the coolest

  51. The Flying Pig says:

    Skull shaver made me laugh
It wasn’t intentional by them but I laughed

  52. Rockphin says:

That half time show was “ok”

  53. I don’t like ja rule for his role in fyrefest, what a conman he is, and he should be in prison with that billy what’s his name scammer

  54. Rockphin says:

    The Supra is back!? Swweeeet

  55. Did u guys see the fyrefest documentary on Netflix?

  56. mf13ss says:

Yes, Outkast has had some really good hits over the years. They are more about entertainment than message music and are generally appreciated by most.

  57. Tim Knight says:

Gurley has to be hurt and is a semi-decoy. Otherwise it doesn’t make sense.

  58. mf13ss says:

    LET’S GO RAMS!!!

  59. Oh btw, I heard of the tank for tua scheme this year. Wtf is that, what do you guys think, I hate it

  60. olddolphan says:

Mrs OD said “this game sucks” and went to watch our TV in the bedroom while I kept expecting something, ANYTHING, to happen in the game. THIS, SO FAR, has been the MOST BORING GAME IN SB HISTORY. Even the Steeler’s 2-0 halftime lead over Minnesota in SB IX was better than this bomb!! Goff needs to roll out and throw deep to beat Pats’ grab-and-clutch defense, which, of course the refs ignore!

  61. MF, jarule and his partner Billy planned an extravagant party in the Bahamas,
They scammed thousands of dollars from people, promised them luxurious accommodations, celebs, super models etc.
The reality was hurricane Matthew leftover tents, cheese sandwiches, wet mattresses, no bathrooms, water, food.
The people almost died on that island, and ja rule told his concert fans t to say fuck me now, get it out of your system, I don’t want to hear complaints anymore.
He wants everyone to forget he stole their money

  62. mf13ss says:

Big loss for the Patsies* there losing Chung.

  63. mf13ss says:

    Hey Tim,

What do you think so far of Brian Flores’ play-calling this evening?

  64. mf13ss says:

Can’t believe I’m going to say this, but Adam Gase would be the PERFECT OC to attack the Patsies* right now. See, the Patsies* are absolutely dominating the box with their DF7. The Rams have got to get it outside and fast.

Run sweeps, stretches, and outside of Tackle.
Pass outside with WR screens and out-routes.

One the Patsies* adjust to that, go back to attacking the middle.

  65. Edelman wide open again ? Really? Wtf

  66. Flores isn’t going to buy into this tank for tua crap imo, why would he leave the patriots to go south and get into a tank for tua half ass plan?
If Flores is no better than this, we don’t need him imo. I don’t think he wants a tank for tua actor ,

he wants to be a HC

  67. bookman11 says:

    Love the Pats D!

  68. The Flying Pig says:

    That’s a samurai!

  69. bookman11 says:

    Go Flores!

  70. The Flying Pig says:

  71. Gurley is likely injured imo or he would be getting carries

  72. Goff heating up, nice passes

  73. Goff was late on the pass, smh

  74. The Flying Pig says:

Flores has been killing it this postseason

  75. mf13ss says:

    RAMS with the FG!!!

  76. Stupid execution, gave up good FG position, but FG is good

  77. bookman11 says:

    Pulling for the NE defense

  78. Tim Knight says:

The Pats are more than just Brady. Belichick puts it together but they are not just offense. They are game plan masters in all phases.

    3-3 whoo hoo!!!! LOL

    I actually love it! 🙂

  79. I want to see Suh make a giant play and turnover, I’m rooting for the former Dolphin, good to see one of the Dolphins made it to the big game

  80. Rockphin says:

I traded back twice, ultimately out of the first round but got 7 picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds….

    What an awesome “re-building” draft!

  81. Rockphin says:

    woah! that was close

  82. mf13ss says:

    WEAK hold call on Sullivan.

    • mf13ss says:

I really enjoy Tony Romo’s honesty and foresight. Yes… even Romo said the holding call was nonsense.

      • Yes, I like Romo too, but don’t like gene steratore, and don’t trust a word steratore says.
He earned his lack of credibility and respect with his cheating and rigged bs.

But Romo has been a great find imo, he’s a natural

  83. Late hit on the QB out of bounds and no call, smh

  84. Rockphin says:

A 6-3 Rams win will be awesome!

  85. They still haven’t covered edelman

  86. Rams D.C. Gets an F,

    Totally unprepared for Edelman

  87. Nice pass, cooks almost had the TD

  88. Damn Gilmore pick, shifty pass

  89. If cooks makes the catch, it could be a tied game, but now the cheats can try to burn some clock

  90. bookman11 says:

    Love Brian Flores’ defense

  91. bookman11 says:

The Patriots are just awesome. They win in so many different ways.

  92. Rams defenders cant get off their blocks

  93. mf13ss says:

    LAUGHABLE Washington Post commercial!!! 😆

  94. Mike E. says:

I don’t get excited about Brian Flores’ defense at all. He’s doing it in NE with Bill Belichick’s players, and Bill Belichick gameplanning. When he does this here, with our players, I’ll be excited. Until then, uh-uh.

  95. bookman11 says:

Mike, I just am in awe of watching a great team

  96. Can’t get excited yet, but I’d rather see Flores do a good job before he comes here than not.
Imagine if he did a poor job today, we could be second guessing Flores coming out here.

  97. There is no excuse to be unprepared for Edelman imo.

I’d be pissed if Rams D.C. Was our new HC , I’m happy with Flores resume

  98. Mike E. says:

Bookman – They are a well oiled machine the Patriots. There is no team better at morphing during a game, during a season, whenever. They change up all the time, both on offense and defense. Hard to say Belichick isn’t the greatest HC ever.

    • mf13ss says:

Cheater*, at least. My concern? Every single one of Belicheat’s* disciples have FAILED outside of Belicheat*. And we’re talking about some rather BIG names, here: Charlie Weis, Romeo Crennel, Josh McDaniels, and the list goes on.

      • All the cheats failed third downs that morphed into phantom first down penalties ,

        greatly aided the cause

From the snow plow game , tuck rule, and all the way to the bogus holding on the Gurley first down run, patriots always get the rigged calls.
Toss in Brady deflating, and bellicheat spying and cheating, they get no respect from Me

    • bookman11 says:

Mike, I agree. I think it is short sighted and quite honestly really old to keep calling them cheaters…..even if an asterisk is used.

  99. mf13ss says:

Additionally, I found it… INTERESTING… that the Patsies* generally have their fans in the stands at their Super Bowls. It’s almost as though they ALWAYS have a home-field advantage in their Super Bowl appearances. Methinks it’s something to look into…

  100. bookman11 says:

Good fricken lord… are u kidding me?

  101. Agreed The cheating is old, all the way back to the snow plow game. It’s why many fans hate the cheats

  102. Mike E. says:

Brady was laser precision on some of those passes, especially the first TD drive. Those throws were clutch and money. If Brady was on the Rams, he would have had a TD with Cooks, Goff was late seeing him, and delivered a wobbler. That was a damn shame

  103. The Flying Pig says:

Well that caps a shitty season

  104. I’ve done business with shady people from Boston. Bunch of shysters and mafia con men.

It’s extremely Tough to find good people in boston, I failed to find any

  105. mf13ss says:

And Tom Lady* JUST STATED what I posted above.

  106. mf13ss says:

    Alright, calling it an evening.
LOTS to look forward to in the near future!

I DO believe that Brian Flores can be GREAT, but only time will tell… he needs to buck the ‘Belicheat* disciple’ negative trend.

And PEACE to my man Home — or was it somebody else on here — for your Patsies* winning tonight!

  107. pheloniusphish says:

NE fans travel well. When you won 6 Super Bowls and played in 9 over the last 18 years, you get fans that travel with you.

  108. bookman11 says:

Wasn’t Home a conspiracy theorist like someone else on here??hmmmm

  109. The New England patriots were formerly called the Boston patriots, their stadium is near Boston. Of course players originally were likely born elsewhere, but thats basically a Boston team isn’t it?

  110. Im out too, have a grand evenin folks

  111. bookman11 says:

Look, I will say this one time, and then I am out. The Pats are a dynasty. Tom Brady and Bill Billichek are probably the greatest coach and QB combination of all time. Just because we suck, doesn’t make that a lie….get over it, and just hope we can win one soon.

  112. bookman11 says:

Oh….and it is not because of some stupid conspiracy or cheating

  113. bookman11 says:

    Good night

  114. olddolphan says:

The performance of the Patriots defense gives me some hope for the future of the Dolphins. Yes, I’m very aware that all of Belicheats assistants who’ve become NFL head coaches have been failures. And I’m equally aware that STEVE ROSS HAS YET TO PICK A PERMANENT HEAD COACH WHO ENDED UP WITH A WINNING RECORD AT MIAMI (Todd Bowles was an interim HC who had a 2-1 record here). None the less, the key to getting Miami back to respectability is a SOLID DEFENSE matched with a Top 10 quarterback. And I’m hoping against hope that Ross has FINALLY found the right match, even though Flores, like all of Ross’s former hires for HC has NO PRIOR head coaching experience on his resume.
With Adam Gase, Miami had NO CHANCE to become a legitimate Super Bowl contender. With Flores, there may be some hope. That “hope” will keep the home fires burning, at least until the NFL Draft.
AS FAR AS BELICHEAT being the “goat,” you can forget that shit. His prior record in Cleveland disqualifies him from consideration IMHO. Shula got to the Super Bowl with 5 different quarterbacks (Unitas,Morrall, Griese, David Woodley and Dan Marino). Without Brady, Belicheat has gotten to ZERO SUPER BOWLS. But he DOES hold the record for fines and penalties (losing draft choices, etc.) for PROVEN VIOLATIONS he’s been caught doing. And, I’m sure what he and Bob Krapp have been CAUGHT DOING is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. There’s is an empire built on Brady’s skills and the organization’s cheating. MLB includes character as a factor in getting elected to the HOF. Blatant cheaters now have a VERY TOUGH TIME getting in. The NFL, on the other hand, insists that murderer O.J. Simpson must remain in Canton. So the election of Belicheat is a foregone conclusion by comparison. However, “getting elected” is far different than being “the greatest of all time.” Take away Brady, and Belicheat would not be within sniffing distance of the Hall of Fame.

    • Mike E. says:

OD – You have to factor in free agency as well. It’s unbelievable that the Patriots are doing this in a period of free agency. Maintaining a winning record year and year out is astounding. I’m not trying to, or expecting to change your mind, but any football team that can be a dynasty in free agency is special.

    • bookman11 says:

Ummmm, Shula won zero Super Bowls without Griese, not sure the point. Can’t compare everything to Shula. BTW, my comment about the greatest of all time was in regards to coach/QB combo. No question about that imho, in the SB era

      • olddolphan says:

QUOTE ME CORRECTLY BOOKMAN!! – – I said Shula GOT TO Super Bowls with 5 different QB’s. I DID NOT say he won 5 different Super Bowls. In fact, Shula got to 6 Super Bowls, counting his time with the Colts before coming to Miami. Belicheat will NEVER get to, much less WIN, a Super Bowl without Brady who, I now accept, as the GOAT among QBs, altho’ my heart will always be with Mr. Marino as the greatest pure passer I’ve ever seen.

      • olddolphan says:

ONE FINAL QUESTION: Did Julian Edelman win the MVP award for tonight’s Super Bowl?? As you may know, Mr. Edelman was found to have flunked a drug test and missed 4 regular season games because of that.
AH, the CHEATING NEVER ENDS with this franchise.
        I’m OUT.

  115. Tim Knight says:

Notice not one time did you hear Flores ever mentioned during the game. He’s the defensive play-caller, but we all know the defense starts with Belichick. That said the next Miami Dolphins HC got no credit for a masterful performance. So the guy who calls the defense is not really a DC and has no input in the game plan. LOL

The Pats defense was the MVP.

  116. ElephantRider says:

Flores is fools gold. The Cheatriots are all Bellicheat.

Flores was an under the radar guy that has been studying from some of the best. Its his time to shine and bring back solid football and winning.

Wonder which one of these is true…..

  117. ocalarob says:

pretty good game last night, what a shootout! lol

Notice not one time did you hear Flores ever mentioned during the game.
yes he was mentioned, romo introduced him as the next HC of the Dolphins.

  119. ocalarob says:

with no prior experience of being a head coach it’s a crapshoot, he could be great or he could suck. if i were Ross i would bide my time pending the performance of the new HC and when a great coach, one who has a track record of winning became available, i would fire and hire.

  120. ocalarob says:

Look, I will say this one time, and then I am out. The Pats are a dynasty.

    I’d say, 6 SB wins!
they are tied with Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh did it with different teams QBs and HCs
NE did it with one HC and QB.
one more and they will surpass Pitt.
and they did it in todays modern NFL with FA and salary caps, which is very impressive

  121. ocalarob says:

i know you can’t just go pick a coach off the coaching tree but Ross keeps hiring rookie HCs, why not try a change from that, good coaches become available, why didn’t we pursue an experienced HC this time? Mike Mcarthy was out there and he has a track record of winning football.

  122. ocalarob says:

rookie HCs are like a turd in a toilet that ross keeps flushing

  123. Rockphin says:

Ok Grier, first thing you have to do when Flores gets here is beat him like a rug and then hang him out in the sun for a few days to get the Patriots stink off of him.

  124. Rockphin says:

    Superbowl hangovers this morning?

I like most of america, I am sure, am sick of New England making to, let alone winning the superbowl. I don’t see how the league can’t see it being bad for business.

  125. Mike E. says:

They definitely mentioned Flores during the game. They said the players call him “Flo”. On the other hand, Romo was saying that the Rams running plays deep into the play clock because they wanted to make sure Belichick couldn’t make defensive adjustments , which he can’t past 15 seconds on the play clock. They definitely said Belichick, and not Flores.

  126. Rockphin says:

    Alex Marvez

    Verified account

    Follow Follow @alexmarvez
Sources tell me Dom Capers being courted to become a senior defensive assistant by the @jaguars and @MiamiDolphins. If he doesn’t become @bengals defensive coordinator, I expect him to join the @MiamiDolphins but we’ll see

    • Rockphin says:

We had heard that Capers assistant at Green Bay was coming to Miami. Now Marvez is saying it may be Capers.

I guess all the rumors will be cleared up in the next few days. (FINALLY!)

  127. Man, I really didn’t want to watch that game because I couldn’t imagine sitting their wasting 4 hrs of my night on it and now, after seeing the score, I’m thrilled that I didn’t waste my time on it.

It must have been brutal sitting thru that shit show. Especially with the Pats winning it.

i know you can’t just go pick a coach off the coaching tree but Ross keeps hiring rookie HCs, why not try a change from that, good coaches become available, why didn’t we pursue an experienced HC this time? Mike Mcarthy was out there and he has a track record of winning football.
I heard that McCarthy had basically said he was only interested in the Browns job, and if not that one he wanted to take a year off and spend time with family.

  129. ocalarob says:

    great defensive game

  130. ocalarob says:

i’d much rather watch a low scoring game vs a 52 to 48 game

  131. ocalarob says:

Miami has never had a rookie HC ever succeed, since the organizations inception rookie hires have made the playoffs 3 times and won 1 game no one has made it past the divisional round.

  132. ocalarob says:

Did the NFL screw the pooch on this SB? were the best two teams out there? would N.O’s give NE a better game?

    • Probably. I saw where the Rams punted for like 8x in a row? 8x? That’s not a great defensive game. That’s totally inept. It’s one thing to have a great defensive game but the Phins moved the ball better vs the Pats than the Rams did and I don’t think anyone would say our O was better than the Rams.

    • Rockphin says:

the question should be would KC have given NO a better game because THOSE are the two teams that SHOULD have been in the SB. League interference via the refs made it otherwise.

  133. stangerx says:

Game kept me interested at least. You want to see a lot of TDs check out the Pro Bowl. And am sure not the only one who remembers where there was only like one close game in like 13 years and almost all of the others were clearly over by half.

    • It’s not that I want to see a LOT of td’s. I just want to see tds. One touchdown in the SB is kind of disappointing if you ask me and for a Rams offense that was so explosive to only put up 3 pts that’s kind of disappointing as well.

You would have thought it would have been a much more competitive game but it wasn’t. If some ppl were entertained by that, great, but I think a lot of people are rationalizing with the “great defensive game” narrative because they know they wasted 4 hrs of their day they will never get back.

      • stangerx says:

Guess I was happy with close and you wanted “competitive” from a quality on the field perspective, particularly as to the offenses. Last thing thought it was a waste of my time though. And like watching even the worst bowl, even if just for spectacle and the commercials (it is the advertising championship as well).

      • well, it just goes to show that people will watch anything the NFL puts out there no matter how bad it is

  134. I remember going to BUF to see a game where we won 12-0 on 4 fg’s. We at least one of theirs but possibly 2 and neither team could really do anything. It was the first game of the season and it was still pretty warm in BUF so it wasn’t a cold weather game.

When we were all leaving we were like “man, can’t believe we traveled to BUF to see this”. even though we won we weren’t thrilled with the game because it wasn’t even competitive. Defensive games suck.

  135. Rockphin says:

Back in Florida for the Flores announcement. Quick comment on Dolphins fans in my menchies: Stop the cynicism. Any other fan base would be over the moon to get the guy who cracked the McVay code. Yes, Belichick helped. But Flores ran the defense.

NO Adam, we will not stop the cynicism. Not until the Dolphins make us stop! Failure after failure after failure, Rinse Repeat.

When the Dophins finally make a good decision we will stop being cynical. Until then, we will continue to expect failure, especially when repeating mistakes and expecting different outcomes.

    Bill Belicheat Coaching Tree

  136. well, the one thing you could say about the game is Flores saved his best for last. he gave the Miami fans a show to get them hyped for the season.

  137. stangerx says:

And now that Bowl is over — next one is Groundhog’s Day, 2020 at The Rock. Almost tempted to go, but if not might head over to check out all the spectacle.

  138. so Phins fans are going to try and tell me they were entertained by a SB where the Pats held their opponent to just 3 points and were the winners that they were entertained and enjoyed it. Bizzarro World.

    • stangerx says:

Lou — not the best SB ever, but yes was entertained. You chose not to watch, and that is cool. What you decided to do. My wife wasn’t watching either, but she made darn sure to have me tell her when the halftime show was on. Everyone is different.

  139. The tanking narrative is taking a huge blow with the coaching hires rumored for the Phins. No way this team is just going to lay down the way it did under the last 3 regimes. Not going to happen.

I say we win at least as many games as we did last year and maybe one or two more and we could probably do that even with a rookie qb.

  140. With the Pats assistant qb coach rumored headed for the Phins to be the QB coach, some are saying it’s a matter of time before we see Brissett joining the team as their qb.

  141. Rockphin says:

Son’s love of stringy beef “Brisket” has nothing to do with an Assistant QB coach. (is that even really a coaching position? Assistant QB coach?)

  142. If we have an attacking-style defense like the Pats played last night I’m going to love watching this season. Would be nice to see us dictate things for a change.

  143. Rockphin says:

Has Jim Cadwell ever even coached Brissett?

  144. Rockphin says:

Or are you talking about Jerry Schuplinski who I have not heard from anyone before now saying he might come to miami?

    • He’s the one. And if he does come to Miami you could see it happening. Again, not saying it’s a good thing or a bad thing and it’s only speculation but, yeah, I don’t think it’s something you could rule out. I’m sure this coaching staff thinks enough of him to make that move. Only question is what it would cost them to do so. But, that’s JMO

  145. I think, to some or maybe even many, it’s a forgone conclusion that this team is going to “tank” or just not win a lot of games this season because of the lack of talent or whatever.

I think they go after a young qb who has some experience as a starter and that they feel is good enough to get the job done and then draft another they think is the same type of player. I don’t think this team is devoid of talent and with the right coaches showing them what to do could actually be better at most, if not all, positions than they’ve been.

The team has a tendency to quit part way thru the season. It doesn’t have the stamina or the staying power needed to be competitive for some reason. I just don’t see that being the case anymore.

  146. stangerx says:

Saw Edelman interviewed on CNN this morn. Seemed like a nice, but real quirky guy. But might have been less about him and more about the party after the game. Host asks, “how much sleep did you get last night”…… answer was “none yet.”

  147. mf13ss says:

Ah! I didn’t know Kyler didn’t have an agent. This helps to explain his weird interview on the Dan Patrick Show the other day. Yes, that kid needs an agent, is right! He’s clearly not able to mitigate these media questions on his own.

  148. mf13ss says:

So Super Bowl LIV is going to be hosted at the home of Club LIV (I can’t be the first to have made this observation). Halftime show should feature Fergie, J-Lo, and Gloria Estefan, on a giant orange carpet.

    • stangerx says:

Can at least guarantee you that Club LIV caught that one, as the owners made sure to tell the press at the time. Host a Superbowl and ain’t your game though, even if they might want to put a Miami touch on it. And to me that would be Estafan, even if for sure not the main act.

  149. welp, Flores just walked into the Phins facility with Ross and the Phins brass. won’t be long now

  150. stangerx says:

“Biggest thing you saw from Flores was Steph’s interception. We had talked about it all week – coming out, playing zone , not getting into man-to-man like they expected. Then a big moment in the game, Flo calls an all-out blitz. We talked about it during the week. When it presented itself, we were going to do it. He called it, dudes came flying in and exactly what we thought, Goff tried to just get rid of it and throw it up. Steph squeezed it and made a great play [on the interception].”

    — Patriots safety Devin McCourty

  151. Rockphin says:

Lou The romor is that Jim Cadwell is going to be the new QB coach. Not the guy from NE. But we will see this week when they stop being rumors.

So is Cadwell coming or not? HE was supposed to be the new QB coach (and assistant HC)

  156. ElephantRider says:

Didnt watch 1 minute of the game.

Cheatriots will always have a taint to any victory. Not a conspiracy theorist….just the facts they have been caught more times than anyone. So they either do it the most or the worst at it….

  157. ocalarob says:

the best part of that game was watching the pats drive and for some reason come away empty, the interception, the missed fg, the decision to go on 4th down and pass incomplete, looked like gase called that play.
despite the people that didn’t watch the game yet say it wasn’t competitive, i thought it was very competitive, the rams should have scored, they had cooks wide open in the endzone and the pass was late allowing the pats to defend it and the short throw that got picked, if they make either of those plays we have a tie game with little time left.

  158. Mike E. says:

Has there been any official word on Gurley? I really would have liked to have seen Gurley at full strength playing last night. I mean the Patriots really don’t need all the breaks, right?

  159. Tim Knight says:

Stanger, remember Gurley was inactive during FF championship week with a knee issue. He was limited in the playoffs and once again in the Super Bowl. Maybe he needs a procedure this offseason but was trying to play through it because these post season runs don’t happen often. Unless you’re a Patriot of course. Sigh…

    • stangerx says:

But on the broadcast they said someone, someone said was not the knee. Only thing sure of is oh yes they wanted before him in there…. how could you not?

  160. drg says:

There was a football game yesterday?

  161. Tim Knight says:

I actually enjoyed the game because of the low score, any score would have been big. Both defenses played well, the Pats were better. They either pressured Goff or when he had time they blanketed the Rams receivers. The Pats defense mixed it up quite a bit and Goff never got into a rhythm which trickled down throughout the Rams offense.

    • mf13ss says:

I’m in no way trying to be a downer, but we hear this type of talk every time we hire a new HC. Adam Gase — as the latest example — was talked about as better than anybody in NFL history to be hired as a first-time NFL HC.

Let’s be patient this time… but yes, GO BRIAN FLORES!!!

  168. mf13ss says:

  169. Tim Knight says:

M13, it’s not really hype. He’s the new HC coming off of a SB victory. Everyone knows that results are all that matters. So right now it’s all hope mode. 🙂

  170. I decided not to watch the SB. I wanted to watch my paint dry.

  171. Rockphin says:

Belichick has said that Flores is a guy who is “never late to work or takes time off.”

We Hell! I change my tune then! He is never late to work!

  172. Rockphin says:

Brian Flores! You have just been hired as the Miami Dolphins head coach what is your first step going to be?

Gee I’m not sure….I’ve never been a head coach so I’m not sure what I have to do first…..

  173. ElephantRider says:

Looks like we’ll be the Cheatriots Southern….hope Bellicheat taught all these assistants how to cheat!

  174. D says:

Matt Miller has us drafting like this:
    Montez Sweat DE Miss State
    Jarrett Stidham QB Auburn
    Gerald Willis III DT Miami
    David Long CB Michigan
    Traevyon Williams RB Texas A&M
    Preston Williams WR Colorado State
    Keegan Render OL Iowa

  175. Rockphin says:

Now can Pat Flaherty teach our offensive linemen to play less offensively? The biggest weakness for years has been the o-line and 10 different coaches couldn’t fix it with the players we have had. Other coaches take un-drafted players and turn them into superbowl winning O-lines. I hope Grier and Flores have a plan.

  176. mf13ss says:

    • Rockphin says:

Well Duh, why would they even ask? Dumb asses! Even if it has been decided the team is not going to put it out there. They WANT to get something for him even if they don’t want him.

    • mf13ss says:

So let us hope that the usual #FakeNews was BS. I mean, we’re not going to find a suitor for a trade if the reports were true about cutting Tannehill outright.

    • stangerx says:

Well that is cause Grier is smart. He’s either looking for him to take less money or get trade value out of him.

    • Tim Knight says:

It’s the day after the Super Bowl. Those kinds of decisions aren’t made at this time. Flores just became the HC today. Why not ask them who will be on the final 53 for the next season while you’re at it. LOL

  177. ElephantRider says:

    Flores is the 13th HC….

    • mf13ss says:

But today isn’t Friday, nor is Flores’ first name Jason… LOL

    • Tim Knight says:

He also walked under a ladder and a black cat crossed his path on his way into the Dolphins facility. LOL

    • stangerx says:

Who Flores will be remains to be seen, but had to love the Rams putting up 3 last night and how it happened. If nothing else…. now a whole bunch more Phins news will be coming.

It’s ALL fun and games until the #FakeNews catches up to YOUR favorite sports team!!! LOL

    • Rockphin says:

No one brought up Fox news, at least I don’t think so.

      • mf13ss says:

I’m not here to talk politics, but #FakeNews is a REAL thing. And I’m not sure Fox News even comes close to entering the fray of #FakeNews, but that’s just my $.02.

For whatever it may be worth to you, I watch ALL networks… left and right.

      • Fox is the fakest of them all. Great if you’re into fairy tales and conspiracy theories though

      • stangerx says:

I’m cool with actual facts on MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, ABC, NBC, CNN, CBS, name the big name newspaper and such. Even if each has spin too. But do agree with M13 when you get out of such that you have to be careful.

  179. naplesfan2010 says:

    from dolphins site:
In 2018, Flores helped the Patriots win Super Bowl LIII in his first season as defensive play-caller. In that game, Flores’ defense limited the NFL’s second-highest scoring offense to just three points, tying a Super Bowl record. Under his leadership, the defense improved in several categories during the regular season. New England went from 17th in the NFL to seventh in passer rating, allowing opposing passers to compile an 85.4 rating. Much of that was attributed to creating more turnovers, as the Patriots were tied for fifth in the NFL with 28 takeaways and tied for third with 18 interceptions. They ranked 25th and tied for 18th, respectively, in those categories in 2017.

In Flores’ three years as linebackers coach (2016-18), the Patriots played in the Super Bowl all three seasons and won two of them. New England had the NFL’s best scoring defense (15.6 points allowed per game) in his first year in the role in 2016.

Flores moved to the defensive side of the ball as an assistant in 2011 and was promoted to a position coach in 2012, overseeing the safeties unit from 2012-15. As safeties coach, he helped Devin McCourty earn second-team All-Pro honors in 2013 and was part of a Patriots team that won Super Bowl XLIX at the end of the 2014 season.

  180. mf13ss says:

  181. Tim Knight says:

I think all the news networks have levels of being bias and disingenuous. You have to do your own research and try to find balance.

  182. mf13ss says:

I’d also be VERY CAREFUL in labeling people as “conspiracy theorists”. Recent releases from the federal government have proven that many things weren’t just a conspiracy… it’s now FACT.

    • mf13ss says:

But believe it or not (LOL!), the #FakeNews won’t EVER tell you as much… you need to read the federal documents yourself. Hmmmm…

    • stangerx says:

Agree being careful about labeling people “conspiracy theorists” but clearly some folks like ,that are out there. Moon landing faked, flat world folks, Cruz’s dad helped kill JFK, the jews control everything… you get the idea. Am glad you are taking such eye with an objective judgment. Try to do the same myself.

  183. naplesfan2010 says:

    Flores swings both ways:
In 2010, Flores served as an offensive assistant and also worked with special teams. The Patriots went 14-2 and earned the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs. The New England offense led the league in scoring with 32.4 points per game. The unit was fourth with a 5.9 yards per play average and led the NFL with a 109.8 passer rating and a league-low five interceptions. The Patriots’ kickoff return unit was among the league’s best, ranking fifth with an average starting field position of the 30.0-yard line after kickoffs. The punt return unit was second in the NFL with opponents averaging just 34.2 net yards per punt.

  184. mf13ss says:

Speaking of “conspiracy theories”… El Chapo. Yeah, it’s all a BIG conspiracy theory that he’s a thug lord, as many liberal American outlets are reporting. SMH

I dunno… perhaps you should speak to Bookman, who was throwing that term around last night in an effort to mock others.

  187. Tim Knight says:

So now we should start seeing official hires of coordinators and asst. coaches.

  188. Tim Knight says:

The gist of what I’ve gotten about the Flores hire as HC is he coaches players up, challenges them, motivates them, but also respects them and shows them that. But it’s on the players to reach those levels and do their jobs. The difference between him and say Philbin and Gase is they were suppose to be specialists ala offense. Flores is considered more of leader and teacher. That’s what a HC’s job is, implement the culture in how things work and then enforce it. I think he’ll be a HC more involved in all phases, not a specialist. I thought Rizzi would have been like that too.

I have family who lived it from the victim side. It was very much real. Still is but to a much lesser degree even though some want to make it seem like the slave ships are active and progress in civil rights has never happened. What’s weird to me is why minority groups want to make things appear to be worse than they are.

A melting pot is not easy. It requires lots of open-mindedness which many people aren’t capable of. That includes not just “white people”, but people from many cultural backgrounds. Most people don’t like change or things they don’t know well. Now all these groups dividing themselves into sects are creating a new civil war. I always ask, what is your quest? What is your goal in all of this?

The ironic thing about all of this is, the idea of The USA is to break down all these barriers. Just because assholes exist in this country and world, doesn’t mean something isn’t a good idea. It’s just that assholes are usually the loudest and most abrasive. LOL
