2019 Miami Dolphins – Behind the curve, but finally breaking away from mediocrity – “Staying the course”

I watch free agency with no real regrets or jealousy to what other teams are accomplishing. Teams are spending record amounts of money on salaries as it usually goes. Players aren’t better than they used to be, there’s just more cap space available and players are demanding more. Crazy trades are happening as well, and I’m actually happy for the Cleveland Browns. They have some great fans in Cleveland, they deserve this. I think back to 1995 when Art Modell decided to move the Browns to Baltimore and created the new franchise the Baltimore Ravens. Cleveland Browns fans had to wait 4 years to have football back as they created the new Cleveland Browns expansion team. Yeah, they deserve some good things so best of luck to them.

At the moment, just by virtue of talent we are the bottom feeders of our division. We’re following a strict plan and I’m very thankful that they haven’t blinked yet. The lone addition we have made is bringing in 29 year old TE Dwayne Allen, primarily a blocking TE. We let our young starting RT leave for greener pastures in Denver. We didn’t even try to stop Cam Wake from going to Tennessee. No effort was made to keep Frank Gore here. There are a number of veteran players that likely will be cut yet still remain. They remain because the team would prefer to extract some value in a trade, and trades are happening wildly all throughout the NFL. Robert Quinn, Josh Sitton, Ryan Tannehill, Kenny Stills and Reshad Jones all still remain, and some may end up being here for part or all of the 2019 season if a trade isn’t accomplished.

The key point is the mission seems to be clear. We’re clearing out the roster and preparing for a new direction. Not surprising, we’ve being doing a version of this what seems like every 3 years or so as we change coaching staffs, but this one is different. Not because of Brian Flores, this is more about Chris Grier, and maybe to some degree Steve Ross. They’re tired of treading water and I’m tired of watching them do it. Clearing the roster and then signing big money free agents is a contradiction. Clearing the roster says we’re starting anew, and then reaching for a star player with big $$$ attached who can help you win now but not later is completely at odds. Give Grier credit, he’s following through with his mission, and is staying the course.

The Dolphins did make one recent signing and I like it. DeVante Parker wanted to stay here, and the Miami Dolphins gave him yet another chance to fulfill his potential. The basic parameters are 2 years at $10M, with potentially as much as $13M if performance incentives are reached. Considering the 5th YR option was for $9.4M all guaranteed, this is a win. None of the 2nd year is guaranteed. This is an opportunity for Parker to do what we all thought he was capable of doing. Will he do it? It doesn’t matter, it was a good signing. Low risk, high reward, and that’s the right way to do it. It won’t be like this forever, but for this season and maybe next, the key to the vault has been thrown away.

There will be rough times ahead mateys, so batten down the hatches. Ryan Tannehill is still the QB and we basically have one good OL to count on (Laremy Tunsil). We need help in the trenches on both sides of the ball and although we were in it for Trey Flowers for about 5 minutes, he eventually went to the Lions for 5 years $90M. Crazy! The Jets have added some serious talent to build around their young QB Sam Darnold. LB C.J. Mosley signed for 5YR/$85M and then just last night Le’Veon Bell signed for 4YR/$52M. The Jets also added slot WR Jamison Crowder, but they did lose out on LB Anthony Barr who left the Jets at the hangar as he ended up staying home with the Vikes.

There are still a couple of things that have great interest to me that have yet to shake out. The Arizona Cardinals are purportedly going to take QB Kyler Murray at #1 in the 2019 Draft. That doesn’t mean they have to trade Josh Rosen, but it’s pretty likely they will to get back some value. How much compensation it will take to procure Rosen is up in the air. The compensation is whatever a team is willing to pay, and we all know that can get crazy. Some think a 2nd or even a 3rd round pick might get it done, but it could end up being a 1st RD pick and more. I would be very interested in Josh Rosen for a 3rd RD pick, and even up to a 2nd RD pick. I think that’s where I would cut it off. I’ve already explained here that he was on a terrible team with a coach that was fired after 1 season. We need talent at the QB position, and I don’t think we’re going to have a shot at Dwayne Haskins at #13, and I refuse to trade up. Destroying all our draft capital for one pick is also not part of rebuilding. Stay the course.

So as we currently stand, we are the worst team in the AFC East, and it’s OK. Not because we’re “tanking”, that’s ridiculous. We’re rebuilding. We’re not mandating to our players to lose, we’re just changing over the roster and not making any “win now” moves. I still think Ryan Tannehill and Robert Quinn will be gone soon. I also think it’s still possible that the Dolphins trade Reshad Jones, but less so than I used to. We just signed CB Eric Rowe who was with the Eagles and Patriots to a one year deal. Rowe has only played 12 games the last 2 seasons due to groin injuries. I remember Rowe well, he was a combine MONSTER. at 6’1 205, Rowe ran a 4.45 40, put up 19 reps, 39″ vertical, 125″ broad jump, 6.7 3 cone, 3.97 20 YD shuttle, ALL in the top performers category. This kid is a quick twitch athlete and an exciting athletic talent and at $3.5M, it’s another low risk, high reward signing.

Hang in there Dolphins fans, we’re finally doing it right. It may be painful in the short term, but it will pay off long term If you’ve been miserable with 6-10, 7-9, 8-8, 9-7 and once in a blue moon 10-6, this is the way to end all that. Be patient, because this year will hurt. We may not be very good, and the other teams in our division have made substantial gains. One step back, two steps forward.

Does anyone know/like Eric Rowe CB, which the Dolphins seem ready to sign, can he play opposite Howard?
    —————————————-
He is a solid player, was a higher round pick a few years back. I remember scouting him for us. A lot of us here liked him at the time.

I also want to keep Brandon Bolden. Im sure he wont be expensive, im sur he will fit the offense and im sure we will be maing him an offer. I just am not sure if he wont get a better one elsewhere.

  3. naplesfan2010 says:

    Mike E
Terrific summary of our moves so far
    and also
a very good joke about Barr jettisoning NY for not having valet parking. (It was all I could see missing on that contract offer they made to him.)

    • D says:

Oh did Mike also post something….hmmmm

    • D says:

Seriously though, its a good write and i agree. Im not jealous of anything i am seeing from other teams. They have their agenda and strategy and we have ours. They have their available cap space and we have ours. Hard to look at what they are doing and be envious of anything but the fact they have the space to do what they are doing, and wish we had a little more to do more with. Again, not envious, but id like to feel like we had more freedom to do things if we wanted to.

So far this hasn’t been anything more or less than what i expected, we are in a conservative rebuild mode and we are making conservative rebuild mode moves lol., aka none. I have a feeling we sign a few people and they wont be splashy moves, but i just hope they add something to our team and help us establish the foundation we so desperately need.

  4. D says:

Those guarantees for a RB are huge. The contract per year average isnt nearly as big as the 35 in guarantees. I can see why it looks wierd that he turned one thing down for the other but thats a nice contract for a RB.

  5. naplesfan2010 says:

Imagine if you will (it’s all we can do at this point, since we know so little for a fact)
That Buff squeaks out a W in the tundra and
LeVeon sweeps the patsies* and we get our usual Miracle in Miami.

Boston will be 2-4 in the Div.
They must play KC, Pitt and superpower Browns.
Also Tex, Raves & iggles on the rd.
    So they split those.
    That’s 5-7.
They’d need to go 3-1 against the trash just to get to 8-8.

We get in as the Wild at 10-6 if we can split with NJ, which will win the AFCE @ 10-6.

  6. The Flying Pig says:

Which is more likely Gase trades Bell for a 4th round pick before October or just gives him the Drake treatment and gives him 4 touches a game?

Le’Veon Bell and Adams Gase don’t sound like a match made in heaven
If he had problems with ajayi…

    • D says:

Yeah what ya have is a talent like Drake (though even more so) and a personality like Ajayi. It does not seem like its a match made in heaven. Maybe Gase though will realize they paid so damn much for Bell that he sure as shit better use him and turn him loose. I dont think he has much choice not to.

    • Mike E. says:

I’d say Gregg Williams would put a bounty on Gase before it got that far.

  7. Mike E. says:

    Thanks Naples!

  8. pheloniusphish says:

    Bolden back to the Pats

    • naplesfan2010 says:

      I really don’t like that,
but we’ll always have the game he won with his 2 carries
that stupid Gase inadvertently let him have.

  9. naplesfan2010 says:

Losing Bolden means it is far more likely that we draft a RB, such as Darrell Henderson!!!!!

or We could trade Tannehill to the iggs for Sproles.

    • D says:

I see what you guys like in that guy, you and BBMike, but i think Snell is a better compliment back to what we have. Henderson is more exactly what we already have in Ballage and Drake and Snell is more of a true downhill mean mother fucker running back.

      • D says:

I just think he gives us an element we are missing in the backfield. The pats always had a few different styles, but they had one bowling ball kinda guy when they have been most successful, like LeGarrette Blount.

  10. D says:

Kyler Murray and Tyree Jackson have pro-days today. Wonder which we are represented at, or if its both. Might be telling.

  11. D says:

Talk about Spin. Schefter said that despite all the information that was out there about the Ravens and the Jets were the last two trying to outbid one another for Bell, the Ravens actually never made an offer at all of him. Sounds like agent shenanigans to me.

  12. D says:

Apparently there are incentives in Bell’s contract too that could make it up to a 61mil deal.

  13. D says:

Apparntly Rosenhaus represents both Perriman and Odell Beckham and one of the trade was that the contract they had already verbally agreed to with Breshad Perriman would be voided. So Perriman had to make other arrangements because of Beckham being signed.

  14. naplesfan2010 says:

I get we need a bowling ball RB, but if that’s all he is, then when he is in there, it’s too predictible.
I like Henderson because he is fast enough 4.49 40 to go all the way if he busts loose, but he is strong 22 reps and stocky 5’9 208 to take punishment but able to hide in the mess like Gore did.

He can catch too, so we could deke the dive and flare him out in the flat.

  15. mf13ss says:

    ————-
    Suspicious

    • D says:

I dunno, i mean its kinda adds to the interview stuff we heard about from combine, is it a character flaw where the competitive nature of him is in question because he doesnt wanna put himslf out there, or is it because he already knows something like, i dont have to impress anyone i know where im going in the draft.

  16. BailBondMike says:

D, I wanted Henderson over Snell because I thought we would be able to bring Bolden back which would give us 2 big backs. Not the case anymore. We will have to see what happens around our 5th or 6th pick which is my preference to take a RB. I would like to go 2 DL and 2 OL or 1 QB, 1 DL and 2 OL with our first 4 picks.

  17. BailBondMike says:

Naples, I so agree on Henderson. His field vision is off the charts as well. That is a big factor in his ability to take it to the house along with great balance, speed and quick moves to get defenders off balance and enough power to run through arm tackles. He is also a fantastic receiver.

    • D says:

I agree that Henderson is talented, but i disagree that Snell is predictable that he is a bowling ball only and thats what he would be when he was in there. Snell is a violent runner, he just adds a toughness to our running game, but he is a really capable blocker and he has good speed for outside rushing. He would also help us have a good 2 back set, where we could use him on straight dive plays or as a lead blocker out of the same formation.

  18. D says:

Naples, go watch some vids of Snell i promise you will come away impressed.

  19. naplesfan2010 says:

I would be happy if we got Snell, but Ballage is a big guy, too.
Plus he can play QB. (groan)(RIP Tony)

  20. naplesfan2010 says:

This Kyler Murray guy is so manipulative. Would you want a guy on your team who is constantly working the edges of full disclosure? playing head games with you?

Where else is he going to cheat his own team, f with his own coaches?

  21. Mike E. says:

M – In my mind, there’s no doubt he gained some bad weight, and that’s why he won’t run. It’s a farce that everyone should see through. On the other hand, if you really want the guy, the extra 15 pounds don’t really matter to you because you’re all in on the guy no matter what. I’m still pretty sure he goes #1, but if he doesn’t, he could slide perty far, maybe into thew 2nd RD

  22. naplesfan2010 says:

In our first 4 picks, I hope we go DT, DE, DE or 3-4 OLB, RB or QB.
Depending on the QB plans of the FO. We might be able to get the QB or RB in the 5th.
And planning on getting a RT in FA.
I don’t want to use a 1st rnd pick on RT, but after them, this year is very light on quality OTs.
in the 6th and 7th we need to restock ST after losing Bolden.

      • mf13ss says:

        YUP!

I see as down to Teddy Bridgewater (he’s not yet signed with the Saints), Mike Glennon, or trade for Josh Rosen.

If we’re trading for Josh Rosen, we’ll likely wait until after the Draft, after the Cardinals have secured Kyler Murray.

  28. naplesfan2010 says:

Is Teddy rethinking Miami after i posted my thoughts on him coming here?
Did Grier up his offer after i pointed out Teddy’s value as a bridge?

    I’d rather have Rosen dammit.

    • naplesfan2010 says:

      I forgot about Glennon.
      He’s worth a shot.

      I’d rather have Rosen, though.
Hell bring them both in and keep the best 2 of the 5.
      sorry Son.

  29. mf13ss says:

    • D says:

My QB list at this point in FA is either 1) Trade for Rosen, 2) Gamble on the draft 3) Get Teddy B. and then either a 1st round guy this year or next 4) Roll with what we got this year and try to get some picks together by 2020 so we can make 100% sure we get our guy.

    • stangerx says:

Seems like the Ravens are going all in. Maybe selling blood in the water from over in Pittsburgh.

  30. stangerx says:

“Not because of Brian Flores, this is more about Chris Grier, and maybe to some degree Steve Ross.” — we’ll see if it works out Mike E, but sure does seem the major rebuild is going on. And my thoughts match up much with yours except for Tanny as might be here.

    • D says:

Again, if Tanny is here, i am going to lose all the confidence i currently have in this FO/Coaching staff. It would be the dumbest move ever to hold on to him and pay him the full 26 this year. Completely retarded, so i may not cut out and become a fan of a different team but i am not going to think the next 5 years will be anything but more of the same.

      • stangerx says:

I think he’d be a fine guy to hold the place until a rook is ready….. even if he is taken in 2020. We need a QB. Don’t think they are gonna try to tank before training camp even starts. Not how Ross rolls.

  31. stangerx says:

So Tyrod Taylor is gone and maybe Bridgewater back in. It’s like Rick’s Café Américain in Casablanca.

        Same job I have now.

The Gambling was of no concern to me.
It was just like the desert, another part of the landscape that required perspicacity to avoid the hazards inherent therein.

      • D says:

Damn you are really a fan of that movie. Disregard what i wrote about it below lol. I’m definitely not the right critic of it.

  32. Mike E. says:

I’m watching Kyler Murray’s pro day. He honestly looks thick enough to play in the NFL. He doesn’t look at all like a thin fragile guy, although he’s definitely a little softer in the middle (belly) than he probably is normally due to his weight gain. He has a thick lower body, and is developed well enough in his upper body. I bet when he’s in his best shape though he’s under 200 lbs. It probably doesn’t matter much either way.

    • naplesfan2010 says:

      yehhh
Maybe it’s just his bone structure, but all his facial expressions look deceitful.

      Maybe he’s just shy?

      I’d rather have cement-shoe Haskins.

    • D says:

Im not worried about his build, well maybe a little, but really im most worried about his game. He will require us to commit to a very specific style on offense an that doesnt match up at all with what we have been hearing about what te coaches want to do. I dont think they want a QB that has to have his playstyle catered to, to a guy who will dictate the offense, but rather with a guy who is going to fit what they want and be developed into someone that can run THEIR offense. I dont think Murray is that guy. If i were Arizona, though, and thats an offensive scheme im already considering, he might definately be on my radar, and i might even be inclined to take him number 1 overall.

Again, not judging him on stature, we have seen people get past that. Not judging him on the combine antics, though i cant say that helps me value him more. Not judging him on his ability to play the game, his way, he seems to be able to make plays if the offense is made for his style. He can be successful in the NFL i think, i just dont think he matches for us, period.

      • Mike E. says:

I don’t want Murray, I want Haskins, or a trade for Rosen. Much more for Haskins, but getting Rosen would at least be a start

  33. mf13ss says:

Maybe should have just said they have “big ideas.”
    ————–
All I can say is that I can see clearly that Ozzie has left the building. I don’t understand what the vision is for the Ravens going forward, based on their decision-making thus far. It’s going to be interesting to see how they fare.

  34. D says:

Tanny is a waste here, wasted cap space for our team and a waste for progress of the team. Why run a guy out there every play when he is not going to be around any longer. You aren’t helping him and you aren’t helping the team neither short run or long run. Tanny is wasting his time here as well. Simply for his sake, he should want to go somewhere where he is doing more than holding a spot. Even Tim is saying its time to move on and he is practically Tanny’s father…..

    • Mike E. says:

I’d rather see Luke Falk or Jake Rudock or really Jesse Davis at QB rather than Tannehill. I really can’t imagine him behind center again for us this year. I just can’t.

  35. D says:

Casablanca is one of the sappiest movies ever. Humphrey Bogart is a pimp for sure, but that movie is up there with Dirty Dancing as shit i cant make myself watch twice.

    • CavalierKong says:

Nobody puts Bogart in the corner!

    • stangerx says:

Damn D — know you said erase erase on this one, but Casablanca is #3 on AFI’s best movie ever list. Not saying you have to like it, but a lot of people do. In my case, btwn it and the Warriors for best ever.

  36. D says:

Im still riding with Haskins as my third choice in this years QB pool. I dont trust his inexperience and the fact that all of the QB, from an Urban Myer system as just that, system QB’s. Thats said, he has the talent to be worth out 13th pick, but i wouldnt trade up for him and if i had Lock or Jones available id select them over him with the pick.

  37. D says:

Looks like Tevin Coleman might be going to the Eagles.

  38. mf13ss says:

Stanger, this is what I’m talking about, Brother…

  39. mf13ss says:

  40. D says:

I think CJ Mosely is an awesome LB’er but that deal the Jets gave him is possibly the most ridiculous of all the FA deals so far. 17per for a LB’er and 51 guaranteed.

    • mf13ss says:

      “That’s So Raven stej”

    • Mike E. says:

It’s like they get to the point where they have all this money, and players know it, so in negotiations, they set the bar, and either the team blinks, or they just eat it, even though they know it’s completely absurd. The Jets were willing to eat 3 ridiculous contracts, even though one backed out. The Knicks will be doing the very same thing come summer. They’re going to sign 2 players to ridiculous contracts because if they don’t, they can’t possibly compete.

Im not a fan of the classic movies, ill start with that. I appreciate the cinematic quality of it, i appreciate the script, etc, but the romantic sequences are so over the top sappy to me i wanna puke. There are a lot of drama i feel that way about so maybe i just like my movies to be more salty than syrupy sweet. I watched it all the way through once, its just not my cup of team, but i see why they study it in movie classes, etc.

    • naplesfan2010 says:

I don’t how it’s so sappy sweet, as the hero did not get the girl, so there is no happy ending, which makes it so much more realistic than those Hallmark formula movies, or even “Sleepless in Seattle” type puke-worthy romcoms.

Plus the setting is extremely not mainstream, and several important characters are killed, so there’s no guaranteed flow through to the epilogue.

The Nazis are menacing and murderous of innocent people but unsuccessful in achieveing their goals, which is historically accurate.

The girl is forced to choose between living and love, which is a psyche-jarring internal conflict. Bogart plays it laconic and terse, doesn’t cry over losing his true love or do anything schmaltzy-stupid like getting into a shootout with the Nazis, which if he won would be totally unbelievable and if he lost would be a tear-jerker of the type you castigate.

I like the movie more for its parts than the sum of its parts, e.g. I’m glad there was no melodramatic car chase scene to get to the airport, and the sly compromise between Rick and his smarmy adversary at the end is a very clever denouement.

Plus there’s no resolution because well, War is Hell and Life’s a bitch and then you die.
      So apropos of post-modernism.

Former 2nd RD pick, actually a 1st RD pick, taken at #32. He would come cheap, and he’s young, but he hasn’t produced much in CLE. He does have some size to play either OLB or 3-4 END

  45. D says:

Ok so ill go ahead and piss all you old fuckers off. Casablanca….bleh Street Car Named Desire….bleh Gone with the Wind….bleh. Singing in the Rain…meh (sightly better than bleh). Its a wonderful life, love Jimmy Stewart, but ….meh. I do really like Citizen Kane and the Maltese Falcon, i like Lawrence of Arabia, North by Northwest, and pretty much all of Hitchcock’s stuff, the African Queen. I guess its just the sappy old school love stories. I just cant get into them.

    • mf13ss says:

If you don’t mind me askin’, D, how old are ya?

    • D says:

Maybe im just cold hearted because i started thinking of modern truly romantic moveies, not romantic comedies but full on suck face movies and i dont like a lot of them either lol. Oddly enough every once and a while a chick flick will catch my interest.

    • stangerx says:

D — Us old Fs are old, but not even OD was born when Casablanca hit the theaters. Does seem you like some of the old stuff though. And I never got why people see the Three Stooges as so great….. know a bunch of people do though.

    • CavalierKong says:

I am a movie buff and like a lot of old movies, but I feel the same about a number of the ones you mentioned.

Two differences are, I like It’s a Wonderful Life, and I didn’t like The Maltese Falcon, which surprised me as I love noir. Actually the only Bogart movie I really like is The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

      • D says:

Oh thats a good one too.

      • D says:

Its a wonderful liek i like it ok, im just not as big a fan of it as most i know are. Its on most people i know’s “gotta watch list” every Christmas and i usually cant sit through all of it.

    • naplesfan2010 says:

You did not list any of the “old school love stories.”

GWTW is nothing short of epic as a metaphor and a compendium of the devastation to the status quo ante bellum in the Old South versus the New Reality of state-imposed social engineering. It showed catastrophic annihilation on a human scale and to the physical infrastructure, including economic ruin, and how all that was key to engendering political allegiances with legacies into the late 1980s.

There are lessons to be learned from that movie that bleeding heart Democrats need to heed.

However, Scarlett sacrificed her own romantic happiness to stubbornly cling to a moribund caste philosophy, but then showed the resilience to reinvent herself vis a vis the exigencies of Reconstruction. The New South thus arose in Atlanta which led to the acceptance of Black people as viable constituents and set the stage for modern civil rights and opportunity for all of our people.

      • D says:

I know the stories are more significant than just love stories, but the theme that really resonates to me as far as the hook for that movie is the romantic aspects of it. The historical significant and the ethical and sociological messages it was delivering were to be there and digested without detracting from the movie’s entertainment value. I appreciate that about older films. We have a lot today that the agenda pushed by the studious completely detracts from the movie. One right now thats is being ruined by all that is Captain Marvel which is so injected with political rhetoric its hardly enjoyable by most that really loved the comics.

  49. CavalierKong says:

James Stewart is probably my favorite old time actor. He was just so compelling on screen. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence is probably my favorite classic movie. Doesn’t hurt that The Duke and Lee Marvin were in that one too. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is another good one, and of course Stewart’s Hitchcock movies.

    • D says:

I agree he is definately at the top of my Actors list.

    • mf13ss says:

I like old-school movies as well. My two faves? James Stewart and Groucho Marx.

    • D says:

I love dirty Dozn, abut my favorite Lee Marvin movie, and oen of my favorite Eastwood movies is “paint your Wagon” which is a musical. Its so crszy seeing both those guys in a musical and comedic roles.

      • CavalierKong says:

Loved the Dirty Dozen. I was pleasantly surprised to see it show up on Netflix last month, so I watched it againrecently. It still pisses me off that Posey didn’t get an on screen death, lol.

  50. naplesfan2010 says:

It’s a wonderful life is ok. meh
What do you think of “The man who shot Liberty Valance,” if we’re talking Jimmy Stewart?

  51. Mike E. says:

I have a hard time watching old time movies like Casblanca. One of my favorite movies of all time is pretty old though. “To Sir With Love” with Sidney Poitier. I still get all choked up at the end no matter how many times I’ve seen it.

    • D says:

The one that gets me the hardest every time i watch it is “Field of Dreams” i cry at the end every time. I havent even attempted to watch it since my Dad passed. Still working my way up to trying that.

    • naplesfan2010 says:

Poitier is a fave actor of mine.
I also liked “Lilies of the Field.”

    • D says:

I like Poitier a lot too. I dont remember to Sir with Love, i probably have seen it since i grew up with parents that loved classic movies.

  55. naplesfan2010 says:

“Field of Dreams” does nothing for me.
I just must not get it.
I don’t even slightly like that actor.

    • D says:

That part where he comes to grips and gets closure for pushing his dad away when he was being rebellious just gets me. Its like the epitome of that statment make sure your loved ones know they are loved before its too late, and that regret after they are gone. Thats what the movie was all about, he thought he was building the baseball field for those players to have closer, but the field was really about him getting closure with his father for turning his back on him. I think its pretty profound.

  56. Mike E. says:

D – Was that a movie you and your dad watched together annually or something?

    • D says:

No its just a profound movie about the relationship between a boy and his father and how that changes after a boy becomes and man and a father, and now can see the love the father had for them. Its just triggers what i feel for my dad and a lot of the things that i knew i was going to miss when he was gone.

  57. naplesfan2010 says:

    gotta go earn some scratch

as always, i enjoyed my time here with you all

fingers crossed for us to do all the right things in FA.

  58. CavalierKong says:

Field of Dreams hits me hard too, D.

Always liked To Sir with love too. It was the blueprint for a ton of similar movies, but none of them match the original.

    • D says:

Ill have to go find it on Netflix or Amazon and watch it again. I swear i know what movie that was but i cant 100% place it.

In the Heat of the Night was a pretty good movie too, with Poitier

      • CavalierKong says:

It’s a classic troubled teenage class gets new hard ass teacher who wins them over with toughness and caring, thereby giving them the tools to move forward in life. As far as I know it was the original telling of that story.

      • CavalierKong says:

        at least on film

      • D says:

Oh yeah now i remember it, that is a great movie you are right. I can see scenes of it in my head right now.

  59. D says:

For those of you that haven’t seen “Paint your Wagon”, watch it, its funny as hell and you will be shocked by Eastwoods signing voice. This was back during the years he was on Rawhide….if you are interested in seeing Eastwood when he looked like a teeny bopper you should watch that series. Seriously i couldn’t believe that was him he looked so young.

  60. D says:

6 minutes before the FA period officially opens correct?

The story was copied like a MF in the 80’s and 90’s

  62. Mike E. says:

Kong – I also found it to be a an acceptance of race differences movie. I think in my heart that’s what I found most touching about the movie. No question he was a straight up guy and the kids were a little wild and had behavioral issues, but I think there was definitely a black and white issue too

    • D says:

Definately an acceptance movie as the black white issue was a “black man in charge” issue, which was a wall that had to be tore down.

    • CavalierKong says:

It has been many, many years since I’ve seen it. It was based in England, which didn’t have quite the same race issue we had here, and I don’t remember that element. It’s likely I was just too young to have recognized it.

      • CavalierKong says:

Just to clarify, I’m not even remotely disagreeing, I just don’t remember it. As I said, it’s been years.

IMO, Lee Marvin’s voice was absolutely ICONIC.
    ——————-
Definitely an iconic voice. The only actor I can think of that had basically the same voice, and I dug him as Curly Bill in Tombstone, would be Powers Boothe.

    • D says:

Eastwood has a super iconic voice for me. But i agree with you, Powers Boothe i more recognize him by voice than face.

    • D says:

I liked that whole cast of Tombstone, they made the movie entertaining, gave t some flair, but they really portrayed those characters too goody goody. Earp was supposedly as much like a criminal as a law man, Doc Holiday was said to be a cold blooded killer, Tombstone romanticized the characters too much to be historically accurate. They made a good movie though.

      • CavalierKong says:

Pretty much all of the western history shown in movies is made up. I’ve read a number of books on the actual history of these guys. I think Doc Holiday and Billy the Kid are considered two of the biggest fictions of them all. If memory serves, Doc Holliday actual only has one or two confirmed kills, and was only involved in two or three fracases.

The most prolific old west killer of all time, nobody has ever even heard of, Killing Jim Miller.

One guy whos legend isn’t entirely made up is Wild Bill Hickok .

    Happy New Year 🎆

  65. Mike E. says:

Eastwood has a very iconic voice. De Niro, Pachino as well. You know who it is immediately.

  66. D says:

Eric Berry cut. Thats what, 2 years, off the mega deal they just gave him?

  67. Mike E. says:

    Burgess Meredith too

  68. stangerx says:

Maybe black and white is a problem. The Outlaw Josey Wales was made in 1976…. why would it matter if came out next month?

  69. We’re supposedly making a last minute push for Teddy. IF we do manage to take him away from NOLA do we then cut Tannehill?

LOL Stanger – Josie Wales was an awesome movie. I meant black and white PEOPLE, not film. To Sir With Love was filmed in color, but that’s not what I was getting at.

    • D says:

Josie Wales was in color too lol. So im still confused.

      • Mike E. says:

LOL – Yes it was D. Stanger has me baffled, unless he’s totally making light of the black/white people issue as if there really is no issue. I’m not really sure.

      • CavalierKong says:

I think he was saying maybe some of the movies we listed that we didn’t like, perhaps it was because they were in black and white…if it wasn’t that, then I am lost too, lol.

      • stangerx says:

Amazing what gets you people going….. but carry on and have fun.

    • stangerx says:

Love my old black & white films and race never been a big deal for me. But maybe shouldn’t throw stones….. have been the same way with silent film fans who love them. Was always like “seems they do flicks better now.”

  76. mf13ss says:

  77. D says:

the terms are in on the Flacco trade. Broncos gave up their 4th for Flacco.

  79. mf13ss says:

  80. Mike E. says:

Stanger – I wasn’t having fun at your expense, I had no idea what you meant, either did D. No one was making fun, we were just unsure of what you were saying.

  81. Mike E. says:

Age doesn’t mean anything, until it means something. lol

  82. mf13ss says:

  83. Mike E. says:

Bears sign Ted Larsen. Don’t all groan at once

  84. Mike E. says:

D – Damn, that’s effed up. If she was of age and it was consensual, to each his own, but 14 is wrong.

  85. D says:

Places that had Teddy B listed down as re-signed under their FA tracker are pulling that status right now.

  86. D says:

So the Broncos gave up a 4th for FLacco, AB goes for a 3rd and 5th to Oakland.

  87. Mike E. says:

    D – R. Kelly sounds like a real POS

  88. manitobafinfan says:

.This just in: Dolphins will cut balance of OL and concentrate FA/Draft on having the DL all play both ways .. Cap savings of 389 Mil.. Source Vin Bolin ( 🙂 )

  89. mf13ss says:

    • Mike E. says:

We should tell Teddy – “If you come here, you will be our starting QB, does that make you happier than an extra million dollars?” If the answer is NO, walk the fuck out!

  90. D says:

If we get Bridgewater it better be for a show me contract, or at least something that says, we haven’t settled on you as our starter but we will pay you like one if you get there. Maybe put some incentives in there to make it a bigger contract if he impresses. Anything north of 10mil per is going to be too much IMO, id prefer something in the 7-8 range.

    • Mike E. says:

Ugh, $10M plus would be a mistake. Just draft a damn QB!

    • I think the appeal to him would be the opportunity to show he can start and be successful that would get him to that big contract rather than ride the bench in NOLA.

Could be a win-win for both he and the team because, if he does well enough and we also draft a guy, we could be looking at some nice trade compensation.

  91. Mike E. says:

Geez, Maycock and Chucky can’t keep their hands off of Antonio. I’m getting uncomfortable . . .

  92. D says:

Teddy B got 5 mil to be the backup in NO last year. 7-8mil to be our starter on a 2 year contract would give him a better pay than he probably was gonna get from NO, and though he would be on the high end range of a backup, it wouldnt be rediculous if we wound up moving him to that kind of role. In two years if he is still our best starting option we extend him and pay him real starter money.

  93. Mike E. says:

    Lou – Exactly right man!

    • D says:

I agree with that too but you gotta expect he is gonna wring every bit of money out of this that he can lol.

      • Mike E. says:

Of course, no doubt. I just feel that offering him the starting job should be more appealing to him if we’re offering $7M per, and the Saints are offering $5M per. If it’s 48M or a clipboard, I’d let him have the clipboard.

  94. D says:

Desean Jackson, went to Philly for a 2020 7th rounder lol. Wow, why didn’t you just say, you buy me a delicious sammich on draft day and we are even.

  95. mf13ss says:

  96. D says:

I still hope this is all for the benefit of getting Arizona to pull the trigger on a trade. Not that Teddy B isnt a viable option for us, but i think Rosen is a better one, and cheaper at that.

  97. D says:

Hell if we are offering 7 and they are offering 7, im taking the 7 and the opportunity to start. Maybe though its 7 and we are offering 6. then its starts to be about money. 7 in a position where you are practically being given money, or 6 and behind a swiss cheese OL that “may” be better by the time the season starts…. I dunno then that becomes a harder choice.

  98. mf13ss says:

    Prediction…

Teddy Bridgewater is our starting QB in ’19.

  99. mf13ss says:

    Stanger, once again, man…
