I watch free agency with no real regrets or jealousy to what other teams are accomplishing. Teams are spending record amounts of money on salaries as it usually goes. Players aren’t better than they used to be, there’s just more cap space available and players are demanding more. Crazy trades are happening as well, and I’m actually happy for the Cleveland Browns. They have some great fans in Cleveland, they deserve this. I think back to 1995 when Art Modell decided to move the Browns to Baltimore and created the new franchise the Baltimore Ravens. Cleveland Browns fans had to wait 4 years to have football back as they created the new Cleveland Browns expansion team. Yeah, they deserve some good things so best of luck to them.
At the moment, just by virtue of talent we are the bottom feeders of our division. We’re following a strict plan and I’m very thankful that they haven’t blinked yet. The lone addition we have made is bringing in 29 year old TE Dwayne Allen, primarily a blocking TE. We let our young starting RT leave for greener pastures in Denver. We didn’t even try to stop Cam Wake from going to Tennessee. No effort was made to keep Frank Gore here. There are a number of veteran players that likely will be cut yet still remain. They remain because the team would prefer to extract some value in a trade, and trades are happening wildly all throughout the NFL. Robert Quinn, Josh Sitton, Ryan Tannehill, Kenny Stills and Reshad Jones all still remain, and some may end up being here for part or all of the 2019 season if a trade isn’t accomplished.
The key point is the mission seems to be clear. We’re clearing out the roster and preparing for a new direction. Not surprising, we’ve being doing a version of this what seems like every 3 years or so as we change coaching staffs, but this one is different. Not because of Brian Flores, this is more about Chris Grier, and maybe to some degree Steve Ross. They’re tired of treading water and I’m tired of watching them do it. Clearing the roster and then signing big money free agents is a contradiction. Clearing the roster says we’re starting anew, and then reaching for a star player with big $$$ attached who can help you win now but not later is completely at odds. Give Grier credit, he’s following through with his mission, and is staying the course.
The Dolphins did make one recent signing and I like it. DeVante Parker wanted to stay here, and the Miami Dolphins gave him yet another chance to fulfill his potential. The basic parameters are 2 years at $10M, with potentially as much as $13M if performance incentives are reached. Considering the 5th YR option was for $9.4M all guaranteed, this is a win. None of the 2nd year is guaranteed. This is an opportunity for Parker to do what we all thought he was capable of doing. Will he do it? It doesn’t matter, it was a good signing. Low risk, high reward, and that’s the right way to do it. It won’t be like this forever, but for this season and maybe next, the key to the vault has been thrown away.
There will be rough times ahead mateys, so batten down the hatches. Ryan Tannehill is still the QB and we basically have one good OL to count on (Laremy Tunsil). We need help in the trenches on both sides of the ball and although we were in it for Trey Flowers for about 5 minutes, he eventually went to the Lions for 5 years $90M. Crazy! The Jets have added some serious talent to build around their young QB Sam Darnold. LB C.J. Mosley signed for 5YR/$85M and then just last night Le’Veon Bell signed for 4YR/$52M. The Jets also added slot WR Jamison Crowder, but they did lose out on LB Anthony Barr who left the Jets at the hangar as he ended up staying home with the Vikes.
There are still a couple of things that have great interest to me that have yet to shake out. The Arizona Cardinals are purportedly going to take QB Kyler Murray at #1 in the 2019 Draft. That doesn’t mean they have to trade Josh Rosen, but it’s pretty likely they will to get back some value. How much compensation it will take to procure Rosen is up in the air. The compensation is whatever a team is willing to pay, and we all know that can get crazy. Some think a 2nd or even a 3rd round pick might get it done, but it could end up being a 1st RD pick and more. I would be very interested in Josh Rosen for a 3rd RD pick, and even up to a 2nd RD pick. I think that’s where I would cut it off. I’ve already explained here that he was on a terrible team with a coach that was fired after 1 season. We need talent at the QB position, and I don’t think we’re going to have a shot at Dwayne Haskins at #13, and I refuse to trade up. Destroying all our draft capital for one pick is also not part of rebuilding. Stay the course.
So as we currently stand, we are the worst team in the AFC East, and it’s OK. Not because we’re “tanking”, that’s ridiculous. We’re rebuilding. We’re not mandating to our players to lose, we’re just changing over the roster and not making any “win now” moves. I still think Ryan Tannehill and Robert Quinn will be gone soon. I also think it’s still possible that the Dolphins trade Reshad Jones, but less so than I used to. We just signed CB Eric Rowe who was with the Eagles and Patriots to a one year deal. Rowe has only played 12 games the last 2 seasons due to groin injuries. I remember Rowe well, he was a combine MONSTER. at 6’1 205, Rowe ran a 4.45 40, put up 19 reps, 39″ vertical, 125″ broad jump, 6.7 3 cone, 3.97 20 YD shuttle, ALL in the top performers category. This kid is a quick twitch athlete and an exciting athletic talent and at $3.5M, it’s another low risk, high reward signing.
Hang in there Dolphins fans, we’re finally doing it right. It may be painful in the short term, but it will pay off long term If you’ve been miserable with 6-10, 7-9, 8-8, 9-7 and once in a blue moon 10-6, this is the way to end all that. Be patient, because this year will hurt. We may not be very good, and the other teams in our division have made substantial gains. One step back, two steps forward.
#staythecourse

$11.15M of Reshad’s contract became fully guaranteed today. He now becomes a tradeable asset.
Since we are in rebuild mode, I traded back eleventy million times. LOL

Yes, I am bored at work again.
with all that I would have taken 4 qb’s. lol
LOL @ BBM
Tim, since you seem to be the “Sporttrac” guy. Am I seeing correctly that every single OL we currently have on roster now are free agents next year?
Randy,
(from your last post)
I didn’t understand fully why we were keeping Tannehill around but after seeing the trade it became more clear. Nobody was going to trade from him with his cap hit. However, once his salary guaranteed we were able to lessen the hit with the bonus we paid him to the acquiring team.
If someone trades for him before the guarantee they are on the hook.
With Jones $11.15M now guaranteed, we can do the same.
Lou,
Thanks. I really pay very little attention to all the cap and trade rules.
We can save roughly $5M by trading Jones. However, it would be tough to trade him at his salary this year. So, we’re probably going to need to bonus him like we did with Tannehill to trade him and that will eat up any potential cap savings this yr from trading him. But, next yr he’s off the books for his $11M salary so there is savings associated with that.
Tunsil will be a FA, but who else on the OL do yo care about? LOL
I don’t think Tunsil makes it to FA. I can see them extending him before it gets to that point.
Yeah, just answering BBM’s inquiry. No way we let him get away, LT’s don’t grow on trees any more than NT’s do
I understand your post, just adding my two cents because it’s what I do. lol
What exactly does Florio mean by “not quite a 4th RD pick in 2020”?
The swap of the 6th and 7th picks in this draft will be a small net plus for the Titans.
OK, but is it a 4th RD pick, or isn’t it? What does “not quite” mean?
A 4th it is. He was talking about the total value of the trade. So with the switch the 2020 4th is not the full value.
What’s shaking everyone. I’m happy we got 3 picks from the RT trade
im noticing the Dolphins and Marino met with Drew Lock a couple times, they seem to be very interested in Lock.
However , Lock isn’t a lock He will be there at 13 , lol
Why does Miami want Lock, or why would they want him?
He has one of the fastest releases ever, which is invaluable to get the pass off to avoid rushers, and to get the ball to the receivers faster than the defensive backs can react.
This is what Marino did, he made tons of plays because of his hair trigger release.
The Niners are said to be interested in shopping their number 2 pick, if we were to trade up for the number 2 pick we could get Lock, Haskins, Bosa, Allen, whoever we wanted.
It will be expensive to trade up, but the above 4 mentioned names seem to be worth it.
I still think We should bring in Gilbert from Orlando too, we need 2 QB,s. And He is a Very cheap looksee
Btw , Gilbert has Zero interceptions this year, on pace for league MVP, and has his team undefeated.
I watch his every game, and believe he could help us, dudes legit
NO QB in this draft is worth a trade up especially Lock.
I disagree,
we don’t have a QB on our roster that has more than 5 passes completed in the NFL. Lock is a tuy that could not only fill our biggest need, but be a vital part in our rebuild.
His lightening quick delivery will remind fans again why Marino was so successful.
Speed kills in the NFL
Btw The Rams punter has 14 more passes tossed in the NFL, than the two QB on our roster combined.
This draft is deep with DL talent. No need to trade up for anyone. If anything, I’m possibly trading back for the right compensation.
Stanger – Eh, seems like he just has his hate on for the Dolphins. Next year that freaking 4th RD pick will be a 4th RD pick, we won’t care about Tannehill’s dead cap in 2019, the swap of 6th and 7th RD picks, none of it.
Mike E, I like Sterup’s potential as depth and even Davis. I think we might see improvement from both with this new staff. Of course, will have to see how many OL we draft this year. I say at least 2.
I hope that one of them is serviceable, but I don’t expect much more than that. I think they might give Davis a try at RT. Sterup I don’t think moves well enough, but we’ll see.
Tradeups are not that horrible of an idea, if You identify the right guy for Your team and land him.
But If You don’t get the right guy,,,, Not good.
Picks are just a tool to get players here, we acquired extra picks from the RT trade, and although they aren’t enough by themselves to trade up for Lock, they can still be used to make picks or trade up for other rounds.
Ireland had the best draft picks ever one year, 5 in the top 52 or whatever, and he totally blew it, so bad he was fired afterwards.
Draft picks don’t mean shit by themselves, it’s what You do with them that counts.
We have to use our picks in ways to get the right players To help the team,
Miami is meeting with Lock multiple times , a sign they could be interested? Maybe
* 5 in the top 82
Trading up for Lock would be an Ireland move. Seriously
David, trading up for Lock is a huge reach. I do agree that we should sign Gilbert. Said it a few times yesterday and posted his #’s. I would do that and roll with Gilbert, Ruddock, and Falk. Got to build our trenches first. Like I said earlier, every OL we have on the roster right now is a free agent next year. Our OL will be patchwork at best again this season with backups and rookies. Better to fix that and get our QB next year.
Maybe not Kilgore. I think we signed him for 3 years.
David, we only got 1 pick for the RT trade. It’s a 4th in 2020.
We got no picks for RT this year to move up with.
We got 3 according to espn.com
The Miami Dolphins are trading longtime starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill to the Tennessee Titans.
Miami will receive a 2020 fourth-round pick along with a 2019 seventh-round pick in exchange for Tannehill and a 2019 sixth-round pick.
These 3 picks can certainly be used or bartered for tradeup.
I’m not saying it’s a great idea to trade up for Lock, it’s a viable idea, and the might be the best option available.
We need two QB, and Gilbert isn’t here yet, or might not ever be.
Trading RT leaves us in a position We have to get a QB or run wildcat all year, lol
David, read what you just wrote and then tell us how many picks we got
ESPN worded it horribly, I think we just got Two, and gave one up.
Like I said, it’s not enough to trade up with, but we can still use them for picks or barter, and have other picks we can use or barter also.
It’s entirely possible to trade up for Lock or Haskins, but obviously it depends on if The Miami brass thinks either one of them are our guy.
Before the RT trade, many mocks had us picking defensive lineman.
After the RT trade, the likelihood of Miami making a move for a QB seems mandatory, no longer optional.
So what do We do? Murray seems destined for Cardinals, that leaves us with Lock or Haskins.
Haskins is very slow with his feet and passes, whereas Lock can get it out quickly.
the RT trade leaves us in a position Where this year is the year we need his replacement.
The center can’t just snap the ball to thin air, that’s a fumble, lmao
We signed Parker, and brought in a pro bowler and super bowl winning TE.
Thin air won’t get passes to these guys
Ruddock and Falk aren’t thin air. Lock has the potential but no more than Falk.
The Rams punter has more passes than these guys, hardly reassuring, SMH
David, ESPN, is like watching CNN or ABC news. Their information is not accurate all the time or just plain bias.
ESPN got it right, David just didn’t read it right. lol
Not in this case, i do think it could have been worded more clear, or I could have read it better.
But this isn’t bias, it’s just details of a trade
I know, I said I was bored so I thought I would just try to spin you up David. LOL I see it is not working today though. LOL
I feel like the points getting lost though, lol. This isn’t about espn, it’s about we have a gaping hole at QB, so obviously the Miami FO needs to do something.
Trading RT means one of two things, They are clueless morons, or they have a plan yet to be revealed, I hope for the latter
I know they have a plan. Part of it will be in how things fall with the draft.
We are going to have cannon fodder this year at QB be it Ryan Fitzpatrick, Josh McCown or A.J. McCarron
We swapped our ’19 6th for their ’19 7th, they gave us their ’20 4th. It’s all about getting that 4th RD pick, which incidentally, next year will be a 4th RD pick. lol
Tank for Tua
Hurt for Herbert
Flunk for Fromm
What ever we do get our QB next year and not this year. This year’s class sucks
We don’t need an entire class, just One.
Btw Fromm and Herbert aren’t better than Lock IMO, and tanking a season is what cowards and losers do.
There is no way our players and coaches will tank a season, that threatens their careers.
We dont need Flores to go 0-16, the UPS driver could do that just fine 😎
All 3 are better than anyone in this class. Locke is going to be bypassed for a guy who is not even 5’10”. Locke may not even go in the first round
Murray is the best, a special talent, so of course He goes number 1. His height never stopped his talent from shining through, so it’s not a knock imo for him to beat out Lock.
I would be willing to bet a lot of money Lock goes first round, he is considered an early first rounder
Fromm is just a game manager, his stats are sleep inducing
If Lock were in last years draft he would have been a 3rd rounder, maybe late 2nd.
We are not tanking, we are going to rebuild where we need to first and that is in the trenches. If we only win one game because of it, oh well. We started our rebuild and can get the QB we want next year instead of reaching to the moon and giving up the farm for one who is…ok.
David, how well do you think any QB we draft or have on our roster now will fair behind:
Tunsil
Asaita
Kilgore
Davis
Sterup
??????????
We need to fix the OL
It’s true We need alot of players, and we won’t get it all from one pick.
I like Lock because he has the fastest release and best arm. He was sometimes overconfident, and force passes into too tight of spaces, but his 12,000 plus yards and 99 touchdowns are better than ALL the names mentioned
He is a very prolific passer , with a Dan Marino type quick release that I would like to see behind our shitty offensive line,
With our crummy line protecting him, A slow QB won’t survive in Miami, he either needs to run very fast like Murray , or get rid of it quickly like Lock,
Haskins will get killed in Miami imo
Media types critiquing the Tannehill trade still don’t get it. Let’s see, outright release him or get a 2020 4th which somehow has the value of a 1979 11th rd pick. LOL
I know, SMH
The way we should view this draft is not what mocksters are saying we’ll do, but that we’re going to follow our board and take the BPA. If it’s a QB so be it, if it’s not it will be another position. There is no urgency to find our future QB this year.
the before thought not an urgency , has changed since the trade.
We need a QB, RT is gone
I saw a tweet discussion with Adam Beasley about the issue Tyreek Hill is facing and the Chiefs could possibly be interested in Kenny Stills who has a favorable salary cap. It makes sense.
Do it! More picks baby! Loadin’ up!
Hill was a huge part of their offense, Still can’t give them what he did, but if they’re willing to give us something for Stills, I’ll take it. They probably wish they still have Albert Wilson
I agree
I love Stills
But it’s worth it to get picks
BB Mike, about your question earlier with the OL all being UFAs next year – Tunsil is signed through 2020 with the 5th year option but more than likely we’ll extend him before that. He’s considered a building block for us and isn’t going anywhere. Kilgore is signed through 2020 though not sure he’ll be in the long term plans. All the other guys are easy re-signs if we want to keep them.
Mike, not sure anyone can replace what Hill does for the Chiefs both on returns and on offense. But Stills is an experienced speed WR who can help a team that’s super bowl bound. It’s just speculation but teams know we’re sellers so it makes sense.
Amendola is a Lion now, He obviously wasn’t an upgrade over Landry, who knew? Lol.
Raising hands,,,,
Why would we keep a 33 year old WR during a rebuild? You need to let go of Landry, man. LOL
Why do we need Amendola. That’s a Good point I often made,
why did We bring him in then?
No one called him an upgrade
But signing Wilson and amend idols rather than Landry was a smart move in terms of where we are now
I think that’s hard to argue
Amendola did very little, and Wilson was injured half the year.
That’s better than a record breaking prolific guy that pkays every game like clockwork.?
And now We Landry recruited Beckham for his team, who did Amendola and Wilson help us get?
I’m not sure how this helped the team, it didn’t
Landry is a guy You keep no matter what the cost, we blew it on Landry, and doubled down on ignorance with Amendola
Ken says:
March 16, 2019 at 1:27 pm (Edit)
Tank for Tua
Hurt for Herbert
Flunk for Fromm
What ever we do get our QB next year and not this year. This year’s class sucks
****
I think by October we may be adding Jacob Eason
He doesn’t have much of a resume yet
In his first game (for Georgia) he hurt his knee and Fromme replaced him for the rest of the season
He then transferred to Washington and was required to sit out 2018
But keep your eye on him
Also KJ Costello from Stanford
If you want a QB in 2019
Watch the SEC and PAC 10 next year
I take Haskins if he is there for us though
It if that doesn’t happen there are options in 2019
I actually slightly disagree with your earlier comment though Ken
That all 3 are better than this class
I think Haskins is in the same tier
I really like Haskins game
I do think the players in next year’s draft have higher ceilings
But are they better?
I don’t really know
Haskins is very polished and I would shed a tear if we had Haskins instead of one of those 2019 guys
FYI my early favorite for 2019 is Herbert
Fromm is just a game manager, his stats are sleep inducing
————————————————–
David, apparently you didn’t watch the SEC Championship game last year where Fromm was shredding #1 Alabama. His receivers even had 4 bad drops that game or he would have shredded them even more. I posted the video yesterday.
Here is Lock vs Alabama. SMH
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5s5n0Bbaag
He even had a shittier game the week before against South Carolina. Sheesh
You are Cherry picking, he had over 12000 yards passing and 99 TDs, I’m sure Fromm has more? Lmao not even close! Don’t worry, Fins have all the film they need to make a decision.
Btw You can scout better than Miami can?
Lock has a cannon for an arm, and Dolphins are poking and prodding, they are interested enough for multiple visits. Doesn’t mean we will select him, just means we are considering it.
stay tuned
How do you know Miami doesn’t agree with him?
I’ve already said Fins met multiple times, they are interested. Maybe they weeded him out, no ones saying, or maybe they are planning to select him.
No one knows for sure til draft day, all we know is Miami is giving him multiple looks, at one meeting he met with over a dozen Fins executives, including Marino.
This Only proves they are checking him out, very closely. Doing their due diligence, that’s good.
Anything else, is just speculation
It’s all speculation
They meet with a lot of guys they don’t want
That’s part of the game
But when you are talking about a prospect form 2019 – that’s over the top speculation
David, do you follow the Dolphins? LOL
Amendola was brought in during Gase’s win now approach. That’s over and so are many of the vet players that were part of it. You have to get on board with the rebuild or you’ll be going in circles. Forget the past, man, it’s over.
I guess I don’t follow the Dolphins, I wasn’t aware Amendola broke Landrys records and is still here.
Do You follow the same Dolphins Landry set NFL records with? I did, and still remember it well.
he is a guy you keep. He can do it all, and even recruit top talent for a bonus.
Browns love him, because they value what he brings to a team, we just wanted Amendola for some strange reason.
Landry was a second round pick we let get away, and RT a first.
We keep mismanaging people, keeping the ones we need to get rid off, and getting rid of the keepers
It all starts this year by getting rid of RT and Amendola, We should only keep guys that can help Your team
David, don’t take it so seriously I was just JK/BB. But the past is the past. We’re just starting a new era. Questioning the past is a waste of time.
lol I gotcha, I don’t have to mention it anymore, and won’t.
I’m Hoping we learned from them though, , but unfortunately it can take years to make up for past mistakes in the NFL, and trading RT is part of the process to rectify past mistakes.
The second part of making up for that mistake will be ,
when we can get a QB , we haven’t had a great once since the year Marino retired
We traded Tannehill and in that process bought a 2020 4th rnd pick, if we were to dump Tannehill we would not have to pay the 5 mil.
we were willing to pay 5mil for a 4th round pick! just goes to show you how valuable picks are.
Cleveland paid 16 million for a 2nd rounder in the Osweiler trade.
We may see more of this next year when we have big cap space, take a lame duck off another teams hands for a pick
The Osweiler trade?
Do you remember when Clev made that dumb trade a couple of seasons ago
No
The Texans traded Osweiler to cleve along with a 2nd round pick for a year so cleve could eat osweilers 16 mil salary due to the fact they had plenty of room under the cap
they bought a 2nd rnd pick for 16 mil
David
If I go home today
And find you in my closet rubbing your balls against my Landry jersey, we are going to need to have a talk
This is getting out of hand
It’s not that, nits just a fact teams have to be able to keep and maintain talent,
Letting the special talent like Landry go, and chasing after other teams cast offs like Am Ndola, is rarely the answer
” but his 12,000 plus yards and 99 touchdowns are better than ALL the names mentioned” (David re: Lock)
—————————————————————-
Yeah just post the big numbers cause that’s all that counts. Lets leave out Lock’s outstanding career 56.9 completion percentage or his 39 INT’s. Let’s also don’t mention that 15 of his 28 TD’s last year came against 4 unranked, non-conference, lesser teams. He had 13 TD’s and 7 INT’s over his other 9 games. That’s stellar performance right there. LOL
YEAH, lets “Fock ourselves for Lock”. Even trade up to get him in Ireland fashion! SMH
– 56.9 completion percentage or his 39 INT’s.
– 13 TD’s and 7 INT’s over his other 9 games
Is not cherry picking. It’s the full picture.
Doesn’t sound like you like Lock?
I did mention he has a problem of forcing tight windows , he does have too many picks imo, but he is so prolific, hes a gunslinger like Farve or Marino.
Those guys didn’t lead the NFL in completion percentages much, they just tried to win games by tossing the rock and making as many yards and TD,s as possible
Every QB has talents, and warts, and I’m hoping for our teams sake, the Fins will evaluate him properly, and all of the prospects we are interested in.
Our success depends on how well they can evaluate
he had a game last yr where he was 2 of 10 beyond 10 yds
He also had other games that amounted to over 12000 yards, so the 10 didn’t hurt his stats much
Those numbers dwarf Fromm, Lock is a gunslinger prolific guy , Fromm is more of the game manager type.
Who knows what kind of QB Miami wants, all we know is Fromm isn’t available this year and Lock is.
Do You think Miami FO is dumb for looking at Lock? I think it’s due diligence, they should look at all the top QB prospects
See my 3:01 post below. You can’t use 4 years of #’s vs someone who has only played 2.
I only mentioned it’s an option to trade up for Lock, I’m not recommending it.
The Fins are looking at him, so it depends on what they think, but trading up might also be a part of the plan, if indeed there is a plan for him. Fins are mum so far
Like I said earlier, I think Elway takes him because he’s the only guy in this draft who is LIKE Elway in terms of arm strength and mobility. He isn’t close to what Elway was in mobility but he does move around and can run with the ball. I would be extremely surprised if he makes it past Denver.
Denver is in need of everything, lol. Yea Elway will think long and hard about Lock IMO, Lock has the best NFL arm by far, he just needs to refine his weaknesses like any other player.
The Giants might take him too, who knows
Oh wow forgot all about that Osweiler trade.
I did too
The Browns – holy shit
They were run poorly
They’ve turned it around very recently
There is hope for us
Maybe by 2020 we are a team that people notice
I guess I just don’t get the “genius” of giving up all your BEST players for “draft picks” or as I see them at best as “chances”. Not ONE draft pick has proved they can play and SUCCEED at a high level like Reshad Jones and or that he will continue to be IMO. Stills is a proven talent here. A 3rd draft pick is? They kept Parker….talented but brittle? 3 years from now? Let’s start with building a football team OL and DL, old school, that melds new school skill-players and concepts.
Tannehill was NOT one of the best players nor any of the others we have let go and we got something for RT. Incredible. Also, we have created cap space by letting others go and setting up for the future.
I’m not a believer in starting from ground zero. We do have some nice players on this team that should be with us for the now, the rebuild, and future or not. Trim the fat or mediocrity, but not our best. They are valuable until you find a replacement that is as valuable or more.
And now I have to leave……this is so frustrating, but I’ll leave ya’ll with my humble opinion.
I’m sure Fromm has more? Lmao not even close!
————————————————–
So I guess you are basing this off of the their total #’s for their careers where Lock has played 4 years and Fromm only 2. That makes as much sense as someone putting their dick in a bee hive.
If Fromm were to stay for 4 years like Lock, Fromm is on pace for 108 TD’s vs only 26 INT’s and over 10,700 yards.
Lock is far more prolific, even in single season comparison,
The biggest difference is Fromm isn’t worth tanking a year for, thats just wrong anyway.
There is nothing showing Fromm is so superior to Lock , we should just just lose games and tank a year. If the FO feels Fromm is their man, at least bring in a veteran QB this year and give it a go, tanking seems repulsive
Lock is in the draft this year, and Miami needs a QB, so we will see what happens
It looks like we’ll be utilizing a fullback in our offense.
https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/barry-jackson/article227844804.html
Yeah, that would really impact who we keep at TE. May only keep 3 if we add a FB.
Not sure it effects the TE position because we may use 2-TE and 2 RBs including fullback as part of our offense. The competition at TE is going to be fierce this season.
That is Great news, I love having a fullback 😎
Piggy:
I like Haskins but I don’t love him. If he falls to us at 13 I am okay with taking him. I don’t think he’s as good as the top 3 next year and I don’t think we should trade up for him
The Dolphins didn’t just tip their toe into the quarterback market at this week’s Senior Bowl.
They cannon-balled off the high dive.
Proof?
Big-armed Missouri QB Drew Lock barely had time to get settled in here before the Dolphins summoned him to their cavernous suite for an interview.
The room was packed with roughly a dozen team employees — which is impressive, considering Miami technically doesn’t yet have a coaching staff.
But it appears that Brian Flores, the Dolphins’ next coach, sent a more than capable proxy — one who caught Lock completely off-guard.
“I was shaking everybody’s hand, and then was like, ‘Who’s that? Oh my god, that’s Dan Marino,’” Lock told Miami reporters Monday during his first media availability of the week. “When I’m sitting in the chair, he’s back here [behind me] when I’m answering questions. You feel it. You really feel a presence in the room.”
You would think that a meeting between Marino, perhaps the best pure passer in NFL history, and Lock, the self-anointed No. 1 quarterback in this year’s class, would be heavy on football strategy and X’s and O’s.
But not so, at least on this day.
“They were more drilling me,” Lock said. “Drilling me about, ‘Did you get in trouble?’ all that stuff. ‘Tell me about you as a player. What’s your background like?’
Lock, who returned for his senior season at Missouri despite leading the nation with a conference-record 44 touchdown passes in 2017, knows that the Dolphins are a team in flux. And he said Monday that he’s completely on-board with a rebuild.
“I think that would be great,” Lock said. “With [Ryan] Tannehill there, however they would like to play that out. Whether they’d bring me there, have me learn a little bit behind him or see how OTAs go and all the minicamps go. I think it would be an awesome spot, as would pretty much any NFL team be an awesome spot.
“But Miami would be really nice,” he continued. “I asked them how easy it is to get acclimated to Miami. They said ‘It depends on the person. Are you going to be OK getting acclimated?’ I was like, ’Yeah, I’ll be fine.’”

Miami also has had a private workout with Kyler Murray, but they didn’t interview or workout Haskins from Ohio.
It doesn’t seem likely they would select Haskins , without first questioning his background or looking at his skills
A CONTACT of mine told me one sports book in Vegas says the over/under for wins for the Dolphins in the upcoming season is “4.” NOT sure if this is true. But it is believable. That, in itself, says a lot about who poorly Ross has captained his franchise.
Possible trade partner for Daniel Kilgore.
Saints don’t have much to trade as far as picks. They only have a 2, 5, 6, and a 7. Would we take a 5th for Kilgore or would the Saints just draft one at #2?
Maybe a player for player trade but then who would snap our ball, LOL.
Well we acquired Kilgore from the 49ers for a swap of 7th rd picks but that was largely due to them signing C Weston Richburg and wanted to get some cap relief at the same position. I would take one of the Saints two 6th rd picks for Kilgore to recoup the 6th we traded for Tannehill.
I could see us going DL in the 1st and C in the 2nd, maybe Elgton Jenkins.
This is such a terrible draft for QBs. The best two have so little experience and the rest are filler. 2020 has this experienced haul that should get even better with 12-15 more games under their belts.
Fromm- he already has 29 games under his belt and is 24-5 as a starter. Consistent numbers and one of my favs but he comes from a run dominant team with a great D and lots of talent.
Herbert- 27 games and 16-11. I’m not a fan since he regressed last year in accuracy and yards per attempt. but he has the skill-set to excel. Has less talent around him than some other QBs here
Tua-16 games of excellence and 15-1. Amazing numbers, probably top pick next year but he’s only played with top talent and has looked lackluster in a few games.
Costello- 14-7 and he has improved from 2017. I still would need to see a lot more because he’s a step below the top 3 ATM
Eason- 8-5 his only year of playing in 2016. Not a fan. His numbers were terrible but it was Kirby Smart’s first year so maybe he redeems himself this year.
J. Hurts- 27-1 !! Probably a step below the top 3 but he will be playing at OU and they made an undersized late round pick into a top NFL prospect this year. He has good numbers, lots of experience, and good size. I wouldn’t count him out quite yet. Lincoln Riley is the real deal.
I agree. Fromm is the one who impresses me most. Like you said, he comes from a pro-style run dominant team and still has thrown 54 TD passes in his first 2 years. A large part of that has to do with his football intelligence. He is very quick to read defenses and knows just where to attack.
My sister is a huge UGA fan so I’ve watched a lot of Fromm. I consider him and Tua to be elite and everyone else next year to be a step below. I really want to see how Riley and Hurts do together though. Very intriguing.
I take Wake as being genuine and not just saying what every player says about a teammate. I think he would have said this even if he went to another team.
Wake might tell his wife differently, but he has more class in his pinky than Vernon. He wouldn’t say what Vernon said even if he felt that way.
The article cuts off.
That’s how you do the rebuild.
Yep, now it is up to getting the right guys, and the right MIX of guys, and being able to coach them up for once
David, re: Dolphins talking to Lock and Murray, no big deal. That’s what teams do every year. That’s why they interview and work out dozen’s of players every year.
The Phins will be at Haskins pro day just like they were at Murray’s.
And the 4th QB is Rosen. He’s first on the hit list these days. And if Cards stick with him then one of the other 3 should be there.
Tim, I agree with what you suggest above and would be good with it.
Yeah I’m not sold that QB is at the top of our list this year. We’ll bring in someone with experience and probably draft one along the way and have a 4 man competition and go from there. Build the trenches.
Tannehill is all the things Wake said about him. The issue with Ryan is he couldn’t elevate his game to that next level and make a team better than they really are like some top QBs can do.
And that is why Wake was being real polite and nice. He distinctly did not mention his QB skills.
Agreed. Wake saw the shots he took and got up over and over.
If Tannehill has “it” he would be excellent. He has everything else, except for that intangible thing that all the greats have..imho
“Had,”not has it
Bookman, agreed on Tannehill. He’ll make a great backup in TEN because of his qualities. I would not be surprised to see him play this season either.
Classy stuff! The main reason I despised the mocking of Tannehill. It’s one thing to think he’s not a good enough QB, it’s another to talk about him in derogatory ways.
Agree 100 percent!!!
Greg Cosell’s QB comparisons

Ryan Finley = not good enough to make a comparison

Here’s where I’m at with QBs…
1- If we can trade a 3rd rounder BEFORE the Draft for Josh Rosen, I’m good. If we wait until after the Draft, it’s going to rob the cabinet of a 2020 Draft pick… I’m not good with that, as it would seem we’re stockpiling for 2020.
If that doesn’t work…
2a- Sign Mike Glennon. He’ll serve as a stop-gap/bridge QB, and he might actually get his career on track with this new staff.
[2b- In the event Dwayne Haskins falls to us @ R1P13, gotta consider drafting him. OR, we might be able to trade down a bit and get more picks for this year… or maybe even next year. In the event Kyler Murray falls to us @ R1P13, PASS. I’m trading down to the highest bidder, regardless]
If that doesn’t work…
3- I’m reinforcing the trenches this year, and I’m looking at drafting Tyree Jackson on day 3.
If that doesn’t work…
4- Screw it, I’m rolling with who we have in-house already, and may the best man win (Rudock, Falk, and Fales).
This is a rebuilding year and our expectations are very low to begin with. I don’t like this QB class (save the raw Haskins), we already lost out on our FA targets in Bridgewater and Tyrod, and next year is the year we expect to land our next franchise QB. I see no need to reach for a Lock, a Grier, or anybody else in this QB class. JMO
I like a vet QB like Mike Glennon or A.J. McCarron along with either Tyree Jackson or Will Grier on day 3.
I can roll with that.
M13, during a rebuild we should maximize the competition at QB and see who rises to the top. Even if it’s a solid starter for a year or two or a backup in the future.
Yes… I agree with this. However, that doesn’t mean neglecting our overly deficient O-Line and D-Line early just to draft the flavor of the year (these 2nd-tier QBs) early.
I’m totally with ya on your 8:40 PM post above, as it’s a very cohesive strategy. Add a seasoned vet with upside via FA, and draft a QB on day 3.
Mike Glennon — in particular — has so much untapped potential for a seasoned vet. I could see him taking off later in his career, much like Rich Gannon.
Glennon reminds me of Foles.

Notice Wake never said Tannehill was a great or talented QB. lol
He went to he is a tough and good guy. Could not agree more.
Agreed, Stanger.
MR. Wake would never throw anybody under the bus though… to Randy’s point.
Yes we discussed this earlier. LOL

stanger,
Yep, he was. Unfortunately, you don’t win games with that. Best of luck to him, but I’m very glad we’ve finally moved on.
Who am I to judge since never played the position.? But he is a real smart guy…… just don’t think his mind worked quick enough. When you only have 4.2 seconds that might be more important than your SAT score. And it wasn’t scared to take the hit for sure.
Don’t get me started on how much Tannehill got sacked. Plenty of them were his own fault.
stanger,
I’m not a big fan of talking about guys once they’re gone, so I’ll just say Tanny worked hard and played hard for us. He was a good professional. It would have been great if he’d developed, but he didn’t. All you can ask from a player is to give his all…to play his best, and Tanny did. It just wasn’t good enough.
I wish him the best. Hope he finds whatever was missing here.
Yes, let’s all relive Tannehill’s sacks. Ya see, I knew it, can’t let it go. Circa 2025 – Tannehill would have never made that decision and throw. LOL
Tim,
I think I spoke with ya about this before… that when I was live-TV scouting “#1” (David Amerson), Mike Glennon really impressed me. He can throw a pretty deep-ball, he can throw with great touch when needed, he can sling it when needed, he’s surprisingly nimble for such a tall QB, and I’ve seen him be a gamer.
My only problem with him was his long delivery… and such is the case with so many tall QBs coming out of college. If that can be fixed (maybe it has been? Haven’t seen him throw recently), I can see Glennon really taking off.
Long story short, I’m happy to see you being good with Glennon. And like you, I can see him becoming the next ‘Nick Foles story’. His talent has never been in question… it’s just a matter of he getting with the right system.
Tim,
You gonna be okay, buddy? Need a sucker?
It’s all good man. Live the rebuild and let the past go. LOL
LOL, but c’mon, man. No need to incite.
This was to Randy, not Tim.
And I certainly mean no offense to either of you gents.
M13, Glennon has never had the chance to have a 2nd season. Every team he’s on drafts a QB 1st round. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? LOL
I’d give him a shot.
Exactly!
Tim,
It’s been a day! Lol And, you well know I’m not one to harp and rip on players once they leave the team. If I’m still talking about Tanny in a week….feel free to chastise me. Lol
***
Now, let’s talk about Glennon the Stork. 🙂
LOL… he’s Don Strock.
Updated salary cap. Armando was right.

So does one build from the inside out, or the outside in? Here’s a tale of two cities (Miami vs ATL)
Jake Long: 4x Pro-Bowl, 1x All-Pro
Matt Ryan: 4x Pro-Bowl, 1x All-Pro
Neither have a Super Bowl ring, and Jake Long’s career was shortened by injury.
If I’m choosing prospects I have to go BPA on the DL and OL first two rounds. Add some talent and foundation to the trenches and make them both better right away. We have skilled playmakers on both sides of the ball, we need more studs up front on both sides of the ball.
Yes QB is always in play if you don’t have your guy. We’ll see about that.
Garrett Gilbert looks like Tannehill. I would go get him.
Son just blew a gasket! LOL
In all seriousness… the NFL will start to pluck from that league. That might be Reggie Mckenzie’s job – find pro talent from wherever.
I was just stirring the pot… lol
Son might have to realize that Cam, “look at me when we win, but I am an ass when we lose” Newton, will likely win as many Super Bowls as Tannehill….none

Decent OG play? Me too.
Just finished watching the MN Wild game. Three guys dressed up like the Hansen brothers sitting right behind the Wild bench. Slapshot is an awesome movie!
Watching the PAC 12 championship, I think Bill Walton has smoked away all functioning brain cells
Or he is just incredibly insightful and deep……
it’s good to see Matt Moore working with the scouting Dept,
i’m surprised to see Quin still here, they recently had to pay him a 1m roster bonus and cutting him would be a zero hit on the cap, they must be trying to trade him for a pick, i can’t see how he would possibly fit into miamis future.

i’m a big fan of bashing people once they are gone and even when they are here, as for tannehill i don’t think he ever had the right support, the one year that he had some run support he lead us to the playoffs and was injured, out a year and injured again. the moron coach we had dumped our running game. going into last year it looked as if we could compete but we were decimated with injuries at OL & WR
even though he had been here 7 years i dont think we had realized his full potential due to the moronic FO we have had over that time.
the Titans may have made a great move.
the cincy game last year was the turning point, we were up 17-3 3rd qtr had 3rd and 1 in great field position and goofy gase tries to go deep to stills instead of picking up the 1st with a power run.
we the lose tunsil and tanny got hurt soon after.
you pick up the first and keep pounding them with gore! you dont throw a desperation pass you control the game!
that one play call killed our season
I often point to that one play as when I publicly declared non support for Gase.

we’ll be using a little bit of that to move Reshad and get out of his contract. He’s been a really good player for us and is still a pretty good player but his contract is just a bad contract and I believe they’ll be looking to get out of it and try and get something like they did with Tannehill rather than just do a straight cut.
Why not trade Reshad and Stills. Could get a 3rd for each. They will be getting in the latter part of their careers in 2 years when this staff gets this team going.
I think Maurice Smith is ready to take that next step at safety. He will be in his 3rd year and I remember it took Reshad a couple years to get going. We will still have McDonald, Fitz and Smith.
There are some really good WR’s in this draft. I soured on Stills. Can’t remember the game where he made a real pussy move on a 3rd and long where he did a QB slide 1 yard short of the first down instead of making sure he got the 1st and taking a hit. We would still have Wilson, Grant, Parker, Butler and Ford. Then draft a rookie WR.
We may very well trade Stills. I think it’s Stills early and everything is Stills on the table. But, seriously, I think it is possible we do trade him but if we do I think we may use him to get a player rather than a pick. JMHO
I really just prefer we collect draft picks than new players
Cardinals can use a wr like Stills.
Definitely trade Reshad and Stills. If you can get some value for Stills, do it! He’s a good guy in the community in MIA, but we need draft picks! #staythecourse
Lou, I would take a pick or a player. I trust this staff to make the right decision for this team.
Yeah, draft picks eventually become players anyway, but I love draft picks because you can move up with them too if you want to.
I agree, especially after seeing the way they handled the Tannehill trade. I think the move kind of blindsided everyone because nobody expected what they did in order to trade him.
Anyone here thinking Rosen is going to be a draft day trade?
Possible
If we don’t get a QB fall to us in draft, we still have Rosen in back pocket.
One of my under the radar draft day 2/3 WR’s is WR Mecole Hardman of UGA. Dude is built from the same mold as Wilson and Grant but a little taller 5’10” 187lbs. Turns into an explosive RB with the ball in his hands. He also is KR/PR/gunner on special teams. Ran a 4.33 40 at the combine.
Runs jets sweeps and even a little wildcat.
Also, read where UGA had also put in in to play DB at times.
gimme this guy:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y33yX5MKUg8
Mike, you say stay the course often and I have to say Grier is doing exactly what he said was the plan. I’m very impressed.
Yes, I agree. It was what I wanted us to do, and I’m thankful that it’s the direction we’re going. That happens so rarely, so I’m going to enjoy this. You know I wanted the Mets to go this way, but they can’t bear to irrelevant for a freaking second, so instead they sold the future for the present. There’s always more than one way to get it done, but I very much prefer the way the Dolphins are going about it.
I know a lot of people think this rebuild is going to be painful but I can see us coming out of this year with a much better base to build with than what we’ve had in the past rather than have a slew of two yr contract guys we just keep recycling.
I don’t really look at it as painful, it’s necessary.
Lou, I like your guy as well. We have not talked about it much here but this is a very deep WR class. Many have come out early. This is the time to cut ties with Stills and draft a WR in the mid rounds.
It looks to be a deep class but some of the guys up at the top don’t look as good as they’re being made out to be. For instance, I wouldn’t touch Metcalf in the 1st. Take a look at his game vs Greedy Williams. He couldn’t get open. I think he has a tough time getting off the line and getting separation in the NFL.
I also still like Cody Thompson of Toledo as well. Another guy who can run great routes and has some nice speed. I like the guys that can get open quickly and give the qb a target.
Wow… so Omar’s Twitter feed is now basically black people against white people. SMH
That’s horrible. I’m not sure I get what Omar is promoting sometimes. His wedding theme was #blacklove. Do black people have different love than white people? I thought that was strange. Isn’t love, love? I had no idea color was attached to it.
I was just thinking about that with #blacklove. WTF?!! What is it when a black person marries a white person?
Illegal? lol
LOL
Orob,
If anyone led us to the playoffs in 2016, it was Ajayi and the offensive line.
It wasn’t always Ajayi because as we have pointed out so many times, he was very spotty that season. Most of Ajayi’s damage was done in about 4 games. It was the threat of Ajayi though that opened things up for the passing game.
At this point why not just put a price tag on Stills and Reshad and see who is interested? Goes for pretty much everyone.

That sounds and looks like a negative post Stanger. Hey man, get used to sports these days, and not just these days, always. Players are assets, that’s the way it is.
Just an acceptance of reality as far as next year. You can call it negative…. but who do you think will be among the positive ones on Mondays next season? For some think will end up “be careful what you wish for.”
If any of us here comprehend what we’re trying to accomplish, then we understand we will take our lumps this season. If someone didn’t want the rebuild, I guess they will be unhappy, but even so, they should still understand what’s happening. We might be a competitive team that just can’t finish. The Browns were like losing a lot of games by close scores. I can deal with that, in fact I can deal with whatever we do, because I know we’re marching towards the right direction.
Wasn’t talking you Mike E. But you of all people have seen the that win means our team is great followed by the loss means we are the worst team ever the next week. Should be interesting at least….. maybe going rebuild will cut down on that when no hope for the playoffs.
A little shout out to our Dolphins fan friends we haven’t seen in a while. Hope all is well with you guys . . . If I forget a name, don’t hate, I’m old.
SB7, Boulder, Al, Diggsy, Brian in NY, GDP, FFR, SteveCCNV, Rhino, Howie, rgs, UK and more
Stop in and say hello if you read this
Wow, those are some old school names. Hopefully new beginnings in Miami will bring them back.
MikeE,
Our passing game that year performed pretty much as it always had under Tannehill. Our rushing attack was top 10. That…and a very weak schedule…is whatgot us 10 wins.
Until the run game opened up, Tannehill was struggling, and so was the defense. Once Ajajyi got going, even if he had a pedestrian game, the threat was there and Tannehill thrived from it. The last 9 games of that season he was so much better than the first 5, He played his best football as a Dolphins QB in that span. Ajayi went over 100 4 times, and three of those were over 200, the other one was 111. He didn’t even break 80 yards in another game, that’s how lopsided he was that year.
“Down in New England, he was all about team. The team was first over everything. I know that’s kind of ingrained in him, and it’s ingrained in me too. So, I expect him to bring a little bit of that culture here.”
— new Phins CB Eric Rowe on Flores
MikeE,
Ok. That’s fine. Everyone has an opinion. I’ll stick with mine. It makes me feel better. Even when we have a top 10 rushing attack our OL gets absolutely NO love. It was somehow all Tannehill. Lol
No Randy, I’m not even talking about Tannehill here, in fact I’m agreeing with you for the most part. All I’m pointing out is it wasn’t that Ajayi killed it all year long, I showed you he didn’t, but the fact that he had those monster games made the defense have to respect the run game even if it didn’t work on most days. The threat of that run made the passing game so much better, we weren’t as one dimensional as Gase was after that because he forgot about the run game, and every fucking pass was 5 yards from the LOS. Man I hope the jets are just like that next year, screens galore, and shitty little 5 yard routes, turn Darnold into shit. lol
Yep, the more I look at it, the more the Cardinals look like a top destination for Stills to be used as a trade asset to get Rosen. They have 36 yr old Larry Fitzgerald, Christian Kirk and Ricky Seals-Jones and that’s pretty much it.
OK, let’s get it going!
MikeE,
But it points out the value of a threat of a running game and the importance of continuing to run the ball even when its not working. You can never go away from it. Once you do, you’re screwed. Defenses work hard to make offenses one dimensional. You can’t do it for them….no matter how bad the running game is working. You have to make teams defend both. We didn’t do that….and the one year we did…we had some success.
Yes, 100% agreed!
Can anyone think of someone I left off my shout out?
Steve
Yeah Kong, thanks!
Stanger – I’d be shocked if we’re anywhere in the vicinity of playoff possibilities next year, but anything can happen.
fitzpatrick
Well D was right, we signed Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Lou, here is another day 2 WR I like. WR Miles Boykin of ND. Great straight line speed at his size to sneak over the top but is a much better red zone threat. Once he fully learns how to use his gifts on the field he will be a force. His combine was unreal:
Combine results: After measuring at 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, Boykin ran a 4.42 40 and had a 43.5-inch vertical and an 11-foot-8 broad jump.
