The NFL draft is just 15 days away, and our beat writers here, you know them well, Omar Kelly, Armando Salguero, Adam Beasley etc. have been silent. Usually at this time there are names floating around that we are especially interested in, but not this year. I like it. Keeps us all guessing, as it should be. Perhaps Grier and Co. are also running a tight ship, which should also be commended.
I’m still completely unsure where we’re going at #13, or if we even stay at #13, or move up, or move back. I do think all of the above are possible depending on what happens in front of us, if we have enough interest in a certain player to make a move up, or if we’re just staying true to our board ready to select whomever we think is the best fit for our team. Will the Cards really take Kyler Murray at #1? If they don’t, does he fall? Is Dwayne Haskins really set for a fall as some prognosticators are saying? If he does, do we gladly stop his fall, or do we continue his slide and take a DE, DT or OL?
Is there a QB in this draft that we have a strong interest in? It could be Will Grier, who’s a projected 2nd or 3rd pick. It could be Tyree Jackson, who could go anywhere from the 3rd RD or later. Heck, maybe it’s Gardner Minshew or Easton Stick. No one in MIA really seems to have an idea, which is pretty surprising.
We know we need DL help, especially at DE. Sack production from our current crop of defensive ends in the NFL is abysmal. Yes, Jayrone Elliott led the AAF with 7 sacks, but in the NFL in 3 seasons with the Green Bay Packers he had only 4 sacks total. In other words, temper your enthusiasm. There could be a few very nice prospects who may make it to #13, such as DE’s Montez Sweat, Clelin Ferrell and Rashan Gary. We might have a choice of DT’s such as Ed Oliver and Christian Wilkins. On the OL side we may have a chance at Jawaan Taylor of Jonah Williams. Any one of these players would help our team going forward.
So let’s all hope for the best for our draft this year, but also understand that no draft will sate the majority of Dolphins fans, because we all have different ideas of how it should be done. Looking forward to April 25 to see who our 1st pick is!
#staythecourse
Truthfully, I am so jaded by this franchise that I have very low expectations for this new coaching regime. (That is all it is BTW, new coaching, it is the same GM and scouting department as the last couple of years) They can do whatever in this draft and they will not get too much of an overreaction from me. I am expecting them to fail anyway.
well that’s a shit post for the page turn!
The scouting dept. has been revamped with the additions of Marvin Allen and Reggie McKenzie so there is that.
that isn’t revamping. That is adding a couple of advisers. The scouts are the same guys that have been there (for decades in some cases)
Tim,
Thank GOD I didn’t choose an easy way into the music biz, by becoming gang affiliated. I’d rather EARN my way, than have to pay it back to BS blood money.
Thugs have been involved in the entertainment industry since the beginning. We humans are a f’d up bunch. LOL
^^^
No doubt, Bro! And it sickens me!
Lou – I’m open to a few of those scenarios. I’m not really sure why, but taking an OL at #13 just irks me. That’s one I hope doesn’t happen.
Yeah, I feel the same way. I just think o line can be had after the first and still get quality players.

Not trying be argumentative, but that is a gross overgeneralization. I know and have worked with a lot of ex-gang members, both red and blue.
I will meet you half way though and say it’s hard to leave and stay in the same community overrun with gang organizations, and certain factions of gang organizations are definitely much harder to leave than others.
————–
I hear ya, CavKong! Just realize that I’m talking in the scope of rappers who have made a name for themselves. You most certainly are correct, that some individuals can get out of the Bs and Cs. But once the money has been fronted for a music career? They OWN ya. That’s what I’M talking about, good friend!
Gotcha. I qualified my post on the other page with the fact I have no idea how the gang dynamic works in the music industry. And from the stories I’ve heard about Suge Knight and the like, I believe ya my friend.
Thank you! Suge Knight is the biggest POS on the entire planet. I hope he rots in jail.
Based on Suge Knight’s portrayal in Straight Outta Compton I would agree. A no talent thug who wanted to control talent and profit off of it.
LOL, a lifetime ago, I was in sales. Every time I see the acronym POS, I always have to remind myself it doesn’t mean ‘point of sale’.
Suge Knight is the biggest point of sale on the entire planet just doesn’t have the same ring to it. lol
I wonder if our approach this year will be to address specific areas of the team and double up as opposed to choosing a different position with each pick. Meaning DT, Edge, Edge, G, OT and then a couple of other positions.
Now that we have an idea of what type of players they’re looking for I’d say this guy here is in play:
I guess I’m not getting my previous post to Toba to move onto this page.
Good luck tonight (sorta), Toba, lol. 🙂
I understand it is a different “Jets” but damn, I just can’t bring myself to let rooting for them go. LOL
I know, right? Every time I write their name the correct way, even though it’s another team, it still feels wrong, lol.
I’ve always heard that NE had a smaller board than most teams?
and if Flores will bring that approach with him?
I shouldn’t say smaller!
More about defined skill sets VS being the #6 RB etc.
Lots of teams in any particular draft may only have 12-15 prospects with 1st rd grades. The 1st round just happens to be 32 because that’s how many teams there are.
With Gase as head coach Grier picked players that fit what Gase wanted, so I dont think you can attribute the lousy teams under Gase to Grier.
I haven’t had an issue with the last several drafts going back to Hickey, so I believe we’ve drafted well, you just cant win in this league without having something great, like QB, D or O.
With that said, I dont expect much this year. The worst thing you can do for a rebuild is get too good too fast.
Stay the course this year and play to develop the young guys.
I sometimes thought these guys were picking players with no idea how they were going to be utilized by the coaching staff. Charles Harris is a perfect example. He was drafted and hardly used and I know most people are down on him but I look at it and think the defensive coaches were like, “okay, Charles Harris. WTF are we supposed to do with him?”
Maybe it was even a situation where they wanted him and then when they got him they realized he wasn’t a fit. IDK. But, it just seems like there were times when players were brought in and the coaches either didn’t know what to do with them, didn’t like the pick so they weren’t using them or they wanted them but then didn’t like them once they got them in camp.
Of course, that’s all speculation but some situations with players just had a weird feel to them.
I think Harris will have a better chance at success in our multiple defense. He’s not a pure DE, he’s more hybrid Edge. He’s undersized to play exclusively at DE all game. Burke did move him around some and he was productive at times but it wasn’t enough.
For years we’ve been hearing blow it up from Ken, we need OL from OD, we need a QB from Son, as it turns out they were all correct.
Yep

Reply
Doubt it. Flores will not be setting the board. he is not Belicheat with full franchise control or even Gase with final say. I’m sure Grier will consult with him, but it’s grier’s show, not Flores’.
He will have to consult with him, he’s taking players that Flores needs. They have to work together but ultimately the choice will be made by Grier.

here’s my scenarios again:

I’m open to any number of scenarios with this team including:
1. Trade for Rosen and go into the draft w/your qb, then trade down in the first accumulating more picks in order to get your OL & DL players.
2. Draft Haskins if he falls to #13 and then just use the remainder of picks as you would.
3. Trade down into 20s and draft Simmons, getting a couple more picks to work w/this yr.
4. Trade down & then trade down again, completely out of the first rd, draft Will Grier as the qb and have picks to start building the OL & DL.
Honestly, I’m fine with any number of scenarios
Let me repost what I posted earlier.
I wonder if our approach this year will be to address specific areas of the team and double up as opposed to choosing a different position with each pick. Meaning DT, Edge, Edge, G, OT and then a couple of other positions.
I can see that happening; especially those edge guys. And from what it looks like those edge guys aren’t just going to be edge guys but need to be able to play LB as well. Thus the interest in Takitaki.
It’s also the reason I don’t think Burns or Polite fit because they are strictly edge guys who don’t play LB.
That’s why I can see us being interested in Rashan Gary – he could be used the way the Pats use Hightower. He plays all over the place. Part of the multiple defense is certain players will have different assignments depending on opponent and game plan.
The more I think about it the more I think I’d rather they go with numbers than with just one specific guy in the 1st rd. Yeah it’s nice to have that big name guy on the defensive side of the ball but if we get numbers and get more players with those numbers and they’re the type of players they want and fit what they’re trying to accomplish we’ve got a much better shot at getting to where we want to be than if we just use the pick we’ve got in each rd.

I wouldnt like an OL at 13 unless Juwann Talyor. He is the only one with really elite footwork. Jonah Williams is another player it hink is a really skilled OT but i just dont see upper half of the draft skills. If we come down to no OL being our BPA, outside of Taylor i would hope its with a trade back. There are a ton of really skilled OL who can be taken in the back half of the first through the second. Im not though a fan of trading back this year, so the ONLY way i do that is if there are no DT’s DE’ QB’s OLB’s or CB’s that i really liked left on the board and i find that highly doubtful that wold happen.

——————————–
Its not the size of your board it the way you use it that counts.
Also, everyone wants to believe that NE has a small board, i mean its the only way to even out how cosmically blessed they have been.
It’s not what I think!
It’s what I’ve read on several occasions!
Lou, when you say numbers game do you meaning adding more picks?
exactly. trade back and maybe even trade back again. maybe even out of the 1st to the top of the 2nd. you can still pick up a qb because now you’ve got additional picks and you could probably get two DL & two OL at a minimum. once you get to a certain point the talent becomes a lot more equal.
you’ve got your star power concentrated usually in the top half of the draft and once you get beyond that it starts to tail off and most roster have a mix of guys from different rounds anyway.
I have no problem with that and wouldn’t be surprised if we did that. Lots of fans hate it because they think all the talent is only in the top 10 errr… 13. LOL
I am the exact oposite of D this year. My first choice is to trade back. I would open up shop with a sign. WILL TRADE BACK FOR MORE PICKS. and go from there.
Especially the 1st round pick, we really need that to be a cornerstone guy. I just dont want to trade back in the first. Id be open to it in other rounds where the casting the net wide gets you a guy equal in ability as many of the others in that same round, but this year, in the first i dont see trading back for more, being a net gain in helping the team than getting one really solid player at 13. Again, its not that philosophically i dont like trade back, because most the time i hope thats what we will be able to do. I just dont think this is the year for it.
Polite most certainly can play LB, and im pretty sure i have heard Burns does as well. Polite, is a good run defender and makes a lot of TFL from the edge. Burns i dont know as much about, but i think Polite would fit the multiple system just fine.
He is going to have some buyer-beware stuff, so if they have done their homework on him and feel comfortable they should take him. I think he is going to be one of those draft fallers, who might wind up being there in the second even though his potential is 1st round talent.
We’re going to find out who we like soon enough. LOL
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Polite play off ball like either Walker from Georgia or Takitaki.
Im a UF fan i have seen it a good bit. I watch all of their games. Dont get me wrong his specialty is pass rush, thats where he shines but he can play off the ball, he can drop into coverage and he can set the edge as an OLB and run sideline to sideline to help on the opposite side of the field.
Can you point me in the right direction. I’ve seen him drop into coverage a handful of times but I’ve not seen where he sets the edge on any run plays or where he actually plays LB instead of playing the edge.
I’m not trying to be a smart ass but in everything I’ve watched with him on it I’ve not seen anything like you’re describing. Thus, my take on him.
It actually doesn’t matter anyway. I’m not a big fan of Polite. He’s another Rueben Foster in my book. I’d stay away from the guy completely.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with trading back when your beginning a rebuild because you want as many pics as you can get but the bottom line is it doesn’t matter how many pics you get if you don’t draft well
Exactly and that goes for who you take in the early part of the 1st rd. We’ve seen plenty of guys bust up there.
truth!
I’m not apposed to the trade back because there are high quality players available throughout the draft. The perennial winners are always picking at the bottom of the rounds and they keep on keeping on. (because they have good talent evaluators )
It does imo depening on how the talent lays out. This draft isn’t top heavy, its really more day 2 heavy. So IMO when ya got light talent in a round, you look to stay put unless you have the draft capital to trade up to get the guy you really want, but when you hit that fat part of the draft, you trade back because you get more picks and you didnt cost yourself much. For me its not a static philosophy it changes draft to draft and this year, 1st round isnt fat enough for my tastes.
If we do trade back, I hope it is before draft night. That way I don’t have to sit through 2 hours of BS and then find out i need to sit through another hour of BS!
You don’t want to watch how the 1st round plays out?
No, I don’t know who half the guys are because I don’t watch college ball. I only care about the dolphins. I don’t give a crooked shit who Detroit picks, or Atlanta, or any non-afce team for that matter.
Well since NE always is picking last or next to last, you should be use to watching the whole first round lol.
I watch the draft cover to cover, from mr super important to mr irrelevant
I usually do too, even though the player names I know are usually gone after the 3rd or 4th pick of the draft, lol.
D,
I’m not saying we should trade back. I’m just saying that logic makes sense when you’re trying to rebuild your team. But, I would also have no problem with trying to get a really good player at 13. Almost every draft is second round heavy.
Sometimes, a lot of years though you have a deeper first, to where moving back some in the first isnt that hard of a decision. This isnt one of those years.
Conor McGregor grew a beard!
a bigger beard!
Kong, I lose track of names in the mid rounds too and when we draft someone I know nothing about I start looking them up. I find that part fun.
I do as well. I usually have my laptop nestled right in between the Dolphins shrine and the rum and coke. lol
LOL
Talk about finding a gem as a UDFA.
And undrafted free agent. Get me Cody Thompson. He’ll kill it in our offense.
Thank you, in part, to Case Keenum for helping a young Thielen! UDFA to UDFA!
LOL, Thielen broke out the year before Keenum.
Some examples of it in this highlight film but there are more examples from full game footage because of course the highlights generally focus on the pass rushing
I’ve already seen all this and his game film. I thought maybe you had something that shows him playing LB position rather than edge. But, like I said, I wouldn’t touch him anyway. Another Foster waiting to happen.

in SEC country, you have a lot of player you recognize being drafted all draft long, so there might be guys im like who is this fucking guy (Will Davis was one of those for me the year we drafted him) but usually i recognize a bunch of them.
When thinking about our draft philosophy keep in mind the Parcells model. Both Grier and Belichick subscribe to it and much of our coaching staff are all from that tree including Grier. They like seniors or juniors who played a lot of games and they like prototypes. They like leaders who love football. I’m talking early rounds. It doesn’t mean they never take a chance on a unique prospect. But there is a criteria they follow.
A few guys i think might be good UDFA pickups.
Jaques Patrick RB FSU, big back, decent receiver, could be used as a FB or at least a lead back.
Deondre Douglas WR Troy, good size speed combo.
Martez Ivey UF OT/OG. Highly recruited out of HS, just never took the reins at UF, but he has some talent and size for either swing tackle or could even move inside to OG. He may get drafted, but he’s been a faller as far as his round projections.
Lester Cotton UA OG, really good run blocker, so-so pass blacker, might also got drafted late.
CeCe Jefferson UF DE/OLB. I really dont know what happened to him but he and some other UF guys committed CCD fraud and got suspended for the whole year and when he came back he didnt seem like the same guy. He lost his starting spot to Jubari Zuniga. He can play DE or OLB, and he is a solid player, at least was day 2 type talent before, might be a solid take a chance guy.
Khairi Clark UF DT, more a space eater/run stuffer than a good pass rusher, though he did get pressure on the QB some. I dont know if thats how it was schemed in the UF defense but he is pretty athletic for his size.
Charles Wright II Vandy OLB, nice hybrid player who can rush and set the edge. I also like the coach at Vandy as far as how he develops LB’s. He can also play inside as well.
Justice Hansen QB, Arkansas St. I dunno why but this guy gives me the vibe like he is one of those sleeper prospects. He has good size for the position, he has a pretty good arm, high comp percentage guy, doesn’t make a lot of mistakes. He wouldnt be a bad option to groom as a backup, definitely worth a shot.
Lastly, Nick Fitzgerald, now i really dont think he goes undrafted, someone should take a late round Flyer on him, but if he does, i would like the Dolphins to take him. Even if he doesn’t pan out as a QB he would be a prospect we might could use him to change positions. They guy makes stuff happen when he gets in the open field.

I’m all for the trade down and agree w/ Lou seeing we’re establishing a base. In this draft I think you’ll get more bang for your buck due to the DL depth w/ a trade down.
I don’t know. Grier said he wants to build a team the way he knows how to build a team and he also said he’d rather have 3 players than have just one player so that says, to me, he wants more picks than less and he doesn’t so much care what round they come from.
He just wants the guys that he feels can get the job done. I really think he doesn’t care about the superstar high draft pick and actually would rather not have those types of guys but would rather have a bunch of lunch pail guys
Agreed. A team of good players who do their job to me is better than a team that relies on 2-3 players to carry the team.
OD WTF? All the teams I like are down, VGK, Pitt, Tampa.
Jets are playing like idiots too , lucky to tie this up
What the hell is up with the Lightning?! Holy shit
It’s the President Cup Curse !!!
It’s pretty wild. If they get knocked out, this thing is up for grabs for probably 6 or 7 teams.
Set it up well for a repeat for Washington
So you have seen the Street Party outside our Arena, and that everyone inside is all in white ??
It’s been called a White Out since before we lost the team to Arizona..
This week there is a group wanting the name changed because it’s offensive .. SBJ are we to call it a no colour out ? Everyone is wearing White .. It’s a COLOR , or a complete lack of COLOR..
Just another example of what this world is becoming … Sillt I tell ya .SILLY
lol, the things like this that people choose to spend their time and energy on kills me.
This is your fight? Changing the name ‘whiteout’? Out of all the causes to fight for, this is what you’re fighting?! Brilliant.
Actually, this kind of thing clearly defines some people in my book. lol
Laine!!!!
It’s a dogfight now!
And a tie game too 😡
Boom
Offside
Our goalie is not sharp tonight ..
Vegas came to play tonight
Wow San Jose came back to tie ?? These games are strange this year
dogfight
Gonna be a good 3rd period… as long as we don’t fold like Sons game day shelter in a wind storm

Well here’s the series …..
Blues in 5 games … congrats Kong
It’s never over till it’s over, brother. You win game 3 and the pressure shifts to us.
I fully believe we will win game 3 .. Hellebuyck will steal the game.. he always comes up Huge after a soft game.. I also think after that we’re done .. they just aren’t right right now … please prove me wrong !!!!!
I have weighed all the clues and I figure we will do one of the following:
Trade up to take Murray or Haskins
Trade down and take a DE/DT/edge rusher or possibly an OT
OR
stay at 13 and take BPA from the DL or because Quinnen DT, Ed Oliver DT, Taylor OT, or Haskins QB has fallen to us.
Lol…You forgot the option of forgetting where the draft is being held.
Orchid massage in South Florida, right?
LMAO! That’s the NE war room
LOL
Sheesh on the white out. WTF!!! That’s like people taking offense to the terms blackout and black ice. Unbelievable
I really believe in Lou’s thought that we trade back. I see us playing the QB card, just to make teams like the Redskins and Giants panic when we are on the clock at 13. I would like to see the Giants hand us their 17th pick and a 3rd. We slide to 17 then make another trade back. Maybe we come out of this draft with 12 solid footballers… We need those guys that just show up every day and do their jobs. We have had some very good drafts of late, I expect very few surprises this year…
And I am so freaking grateful that we did not win the Off-Season Superbowl this year…
Go Dolphins!!!
to be honest, I’m hoping we can trade back with someone like Philly, get another trade back a little further and then trade back even further to the top of the 2nd before we even take our first pick.
Take Ximines with our first pick in the 2nd rd, then Will Grier, then Cajuste at RT and just go from there. We’d end up with about three 2nds and three 4ths.
People are offended because it’s called a white out? LMAO!!! Unreal.
There is some speculation out there that the Jets would be willing to trade down. If there is a team willing to trade up that could affect how the entire top half of the 1st round goes down.
Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 13: Montez Sweat, DE, Miss. State (A)
Round 2 Pick 16: Yodny Cajuste, OT, West Virginia (B+)
Round 3 Pick 14: Beau Benzschawel, OG, Wisconsin (A-)
Round 4 Pick 14: Tyree Jackson, QB, Buffalo (A+)
Round 5 Pick 13: Daniel Wise, DT, Kansas (A)
Round 7 Pick 19: Jamal Davis II, DE, Akron (A+)
Round 7 Pick 20: Hunter Renfrow, WR, Clemson (A+)
Like!
I could see something like that.
MikeE, I doubled down on QB! I like the idea of trading back and landing more solid players to fill out the roster instead of someone who I hope is a superstar.
Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 23 (HOU): Dexter Lawrence, DT, Clemson (A)
Round 2 Pick 14 (WASH): David Edwards, OT, Wisconsin (B)
Round 2 Pick 19 (TENN): Elgton Jenkins, OG/C, Miss. State (A-)
Round 2 Pick 22 (HOU): DAndre Walker, OLB/DE, Georgia (B+)
Round 3 Pick 12 (WASH): Darrell Henderson, RB, Memphis (A)
Round 3 Pick 14: Beau Benzschawel, OG, Wisconsin (B+)
Round 3 Pick 32 (WASH): Jalen Jelks, DE, Oregon (A-)
Round 4 Pick 14: Will Grier, QB, West Virginia (A+)
Round 5 Pick 13: David Long Jr, ILB/OLB, West Virginia (A-)
Round 7 Pick 19: Gardner Minshew II, QB, Washington St. (A+)
Round 7 Pick 20: Antoine Wesley, WR, Texas Tech (A+)
Traded back 3 times in 1st. The 2 main OT’s and Ed Oliver were gone so traded back a couple spots with Wash but ended up missing out on Ferrell and Wilkins so traded back again. Then it was “Meh” so traded back a couple more with Houston and started picking.lol
I have a feeling Grier is going to be a 2nd RD pick. We’ll see.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Grier go late first either but if we do trade down a few times like that my hope is he’s there in the 2nd when we pick so we can get him. I’d take a shot at him. He’s got the upside to be a franchise qb.
I took WR Antoine Wesley over Renfrow. I think Renfrow is more NFL ready but I like this kids upside. He is a one year starter only because he was behind 3 other good receivers at Texas Tech who are all now on NFL rosters. Also, he is 6’5″.
BBM – I have to ask, do you feel Grier is capable of being a top 10 QB at some point? Or, are you taking him just to improve our QB depth chart?
Kind of both. He has a gun slinger mentality but also takes care of the ball, IMO. Would be interesting to see what becomes of him with this staff and learning under Fitz. I feel, under the right coaching, he could be something. I like him more than Lock. I watched a lot of game tape on Lock and he folds under pressure a lot. He will toss an ugly wobbler to get rid of it before he gets hit instead of stepping into the throw and taking the hit. I also feel Minschew will be a real good game manager type QB. With the right team around him, I think Minschew could be like a Pennington.
With all of Fitz’s up’s and down’s, our backups will definitely learn what and what not to do. LOL
I would love if we were able to get all of those picks from trading down 3x in the first and still being able to pick at #23 in the 1st rd. The simulator seems quite generous with what it’s giving up with trades.
In any case, it would be great to be able to get that many players in this draft. My scenario in trading back 3x and completely out of the first and not picking until #36 didn’t yield quite as many picks as what yours did but that’s what I was going for in trading down so much; trying to accumulate a lot of picks.
It’s definitely something I can see them trying to do if they can accomplish it rather than just going with the number of picks they have and be good with it. I can see that happening again next year as well.
That would be a great draft if we could somehow pull it off
Had a couple come in from Miami today. Funny how you meet people for the first time and agree on everything happening to the Fins. LOL
Especially the fact that this is our favorite time of year! Hope springs eternal.
Ya know, I just can’t fall completely in love with a quarterback anymore. There was a point in time that I could and that was even very recently but I’m over that. Give me Grier in the 2nd if we could get him and I’d be just as happy as if we got Haskins at #13.
That’s just the way I feel about it anymore. I really want to see Chris Grier trade down and accumulate picks and get more players in this draft rather than just stick with the 7 picks we’ve got. So, trade down. Then trade down again. Then trade down again. And if it takes until pick #36 before we pick for the first time but will be picking 3x in the 2nd and twice in the 3rd and 3x in the 4th then I’m great with that.
Lou, yeah, that draft game gives it up easy sometimes. LOL
concerning trading down …
one quarter is worth more than 2 dimes
I don’t believe it because once you get down far enough the talent becomes so equal that you’re much better off having more picks than less. Give me the picks any day. I think we’ve seen it enough times where you see these guys who were supposed to be studs coming out and not amounting to much.
And if you’re good at what you do in evaluating talent then you’re way ahead of the game.
Give me the lunch pail guys. I don’t want the prima dona superstars who are going to want the accolades and care about the Pro Bowl. Fuck the Pro Bowl. I want Super Bowls.
Seriously Mando? LOL
Those are not very good numbers for your marquee QB in a controlled scrimmage.
50% completion and 1:1 TD/Int ratio?
It shouldn’t even be common knowledge, it means nothing one way or the other.
Oshane Ximines and Sione Takitaki are two names to remember come draft day for our Phins. They’re in love with these guys
This draft is loaded with seniors and it’s not always like that but I believe that’s what we’re looking for. I don’t think we want to add too many green prospects.
The way I’m approaching this draft is we’re not making the selections anyway so whomever we draft the team had a vision for. We’re not going to hit on all of them, teams rarely do. So I’m just going with the flow and then we’ll see how the 53 eventually plays out.
Like everyone else I like some prospects more than others and hope we land one or two of them. But I’m not going to be bothered by it if we don’t. I’m more interested to see if this new regime builds a good team their way than my fantasy vision. LOL
Remember when teams trade down, the reason is they don’t have high grades on anyone left and they feel the talent pool is similar over however many prospects. Not every draft is loaded with what you would consider sure 1st rd talents. It just just happens to be 32 because that’s how many teams there are. If you really like a prospect still on the board draft him, if not some other team might want to trade up so you trade down.
I just look at it from the point of view, like we’ve said before, that there’s team who pick at the bottom of the 1st rd all the time and they’re still perennial playoff contenders. Some of those teams will even trade out of the 1st instead of picking where they are at.
So, if they can do that, I just feel that the talent is pretty even for the most part but the coaching is the thing that’s going to make the bigger difference.
Yeah, you’re going to have some guys in the top ten who could be special players but, when it comes to overall talent, most teams aren’t loaded with 1st rd talent. Most teams have a mix of talent from all different rds and udfa’s and that’s even the better teams in the league. If you want a team that’s one and done then you fill it with superstars to try and win it all. But if you want a team that contends year after year you get your lunch pail guys and get them good coaches.
Emmitt Smith #17, Aaron Rodgers #24, Ray Lewis #26. Happens all the time.
Know what else happens? UDFAs making a huge impact on the league, year in and year out.
I think if we stay @ R1P13, Sheev Palpatine, GE, University of Naboo, could still be there for the taking. IF Palpatine is already off the board, trade down a few picks (thus adding a 3rd rounder, perhaps?) and select Mace Windu, MJ, University of Coruscant.
Then, trade back UP into the 2nd round by dealing our two 3rd round picks (trading down from R1P13 scenario). With any luck, we can nab Lando Calrissian, (ACC), University of Bespin.
There’s more than one way to kill a womp rat!
Wait a minute…
That is hilarious.
We do need players at GE and MJ, although i question you on the Bespin kid.
I heard he got arrested for a torn tibialis maximus.
😆
By the way…
GE = Galactic Emperor
MJ = Master Jedi
ACC = Administer of Cloud City
ACC = Administrator of Cloud City
There’s somebody that Lou and I agree upon EVERY single year. This year? It’s Oshane Ximines, DE, Old Dominion.
the seem to be spending a lot of time with him AND Takitaki. Usually, that’s a sign they’re taking a player if they have the chance.
I REALLY like the play of Ximines. That cat has massive potential.
he looks it.
Jayrone Elliot received a $50,000 signing bonus and Tyrone Holmes received a $15,000 signing bonus per Tom Pelissero.
$75,000 gtd for Elliot
$50,000 gtd for Holmes
I can see Jayrone Elliott and Tyrone Holmes making the team in 2019 because we lack Edge guys like that.
When thinking about multiple how do you view the DL roster?
DT/NT – 4
DE – 2-3
Edge – 3-4
I’m still a big fan of Geno Flatuencia of Gaseous State. He’s high on my board.
some people think he stinks, but not me.
LOL
By the way, y’all know I was just being “Star Wars” funny with my 9:21 PM post above, but it could also be a blueprint. What do I mean? Netting the best 3 players we can possibly net in this year’s Draft.
It would yield us a 1st rounder, and two 2nd rounders.
If you can make sure we don’t miss out on
Ryan Mathews RB Fresno State
13 Philadelphia Eagles Brandon Graham DE Michigan
14 Seattle Seahawks Earl Thomas FS Texas
15 New York Giants Jason Pierre-Paul DE South Florida
16 Tennessee Titans Derrick Morgan DE Georgia Tech
17 San Francisco 49ers Mike Iupati G Idaho
18 Pittsburgh Steelers Maurkice Pouncey C Florida
19 Atlanta Falcons Sean Weatherspoon OLB Missouri
20 Houston Texans Kareem Jackson CB Alabama
21 Cincinnati Bengals Jermaine Gresham TE Oklahoma
22 Denver Broncos Demaryius Thomas WR Georgia Tech
23 Green Bay Packers Bryan Bulaga T Iowa
24 Dallas Cowboys Dez Bryant WR Oklahoma State
25 Denver Broncos Tim Tebow QB Florida
26 Arizona Cardinals Dan Williams DT Tennessee
27 New England Patriots Devin McCourty
so we can trade down and take Jared Odrick and a 5th rounder, then fine, let’s do it.
Me? I’d rather draft a known future star pro bowler @ 13 than a rotational short career guy @ 28.
Even if I get a depth guy thrown in.
But whatever …
Go Dolphins.
I DO agree with ya, Naples. Take the surer things, rather than chasing those who are not the BPA.
I can care less about a guy making the Pro Bowl. I’d rather have the whole team in the Super Bowl.
Every year is different, man. You’re hung up on well that didn’t work out so don’t ever do that again.
we could revisit 2010 if you like. yeah, I didn’t like the idea of trading down and taking Odrick either. said it plenty of times. but if you want to talk about Pro Bowl talent look at the guys who came later:
2nd rd:
Gronkowski
Beadles
Lee
Dunlap
Tate
3rd:
Emmanuel Sanders
Jimmy Graham
NaVorro Bowman
4th
Everson Griffin
Alterraun Verner
Geno Atkins
5th
Reshad Jones
Kam Chancellor
6th
Antonio Brown
The talent is there. You just need to find it.
You’re betraying your fundamentals, that which you’ve preached for years, Lou… especially regarding our ’10 Draft.
What’s up with that?
Anything a team does in the most current draft has nothing to do with the past. Why does anyone harp on that? Prospects are either graded as blue chip, green or yellow. Then we see who was right.
As this is a ‘total rebuild’… or so it’s being labeled, the past has nothing to do now with the present.
I think Naples is citing mistakes from our past, that’s all. And those mistakes have haunted our house for years. I think he’s saying let’s go for QUALITY over quantity (of draft picks). I agree… and so do you.
I mean, you’re ALWAYS telling us BPA (you’re not wrong)… except for the 2010 Draft, when it’s cited. Can’t have it both ways, Brother.
When it suits your agenda, you point to the mistakes of our past FOs.
just as I have
There is risk in any strategy tor something like a draft which is not quite a blind lottery and where it’s such a fast-paced thing and maybe some other team takes the guy you want so you better have a Plan B ready to go.
So I just think the “trade-down” stategy is not fool-proof, either. If all you take is “lunch-pail” guys, not stars, then why is that not the blue-print for mediocrity? Who is the playmaker?
I think you made that point though…that maybe we have had several fools picking in the past.
or coaching.
It’s just that when i line my guys up out there, I want to feel lilke I have talented enough guys to where we can win one on one match-ups all over the field. Then it is up to me and my coaches to put them in favorable one on ones.
^^^
well, none of it is foolproof. we stayed where we were and it didn’t work out. we’ve traded up to #3 and it didn’t work out. we’ve traded down and it didn’t work out. I’ve looked at draft results from year after year and there really are no guarantees.
some drafts, and I mean entire drafts, were complete stinkers. some were better than others and seemed to have deeper talent pools. I guess you need to know when to hold your position in years where talent is sparse and when the talent pool seems deeper you go for more picks if you can.
so, it looks like it’s dependent on the year and the talent available and it’s really all subjective.
I agree with all that, Lou.
And this year especially is impossible to predict, for me at least.
Oh well…it’ll be fun to see what Grier has in mind and what influence Flores has on the guys we pick.
As i have said, i loved last year’s draft by Grier, and no one can argue with the pedigree Flores brings with all those AFCE titles.
M13, I guess you can’t go back to the 2010 draft archive discussions, but Earl Thomas was one of my favorite prospects that year. The only difference between you and I had about him is I didn’t continue to bring him up over and over for the next decade. LOL
That’s beyond the scope of the convo we’re having. You’ve stuck up for trading down for Odrick and Misi over the last decade. I, too, loved them both.
What we’re talking about (via Naples’ convo)… do ya trade down in this year of rebuilding, or do ya take the BPA? What say you, Tim?
I say, take the BPA ALL DAY!!! That’s would the old Tim would tell me, too!
*That’s what the old Tim would tell me
well we all know I’ve been the guy bringing up that draft for years because we passed on Thomas because we thought our dbs were good enough and needed a DE. then we took Misi who was an undersized DE in college and converted him to LB.
but we screwed the pooch more than one way in that draft. 1. we didn’t do our homework because we lost Odrick, if you recall, for his first season because of a broken bone in his leg that he had in the past. now I know this goes contrary to the Simmons discussion as well but Simmons projects to be lights out compared to Odrick. Then we needed to wait for Misi to settle into his new position because he had not played LB in college.
It’s like we have a history of taking guys with no clue as to how we were going to use them or how they fit within the scheme of things. that’s what I said about Harris. they took Harris and then, after the fact, it was like “why did we take him? what are we going to do with him?”
I don’t get that feeling right now because, when I look at what we’ve signed from the AAF and who we seem to be looking at as prospects they seem to know what they want and how they’re going to use these guys in their scheme. so that’s why I’m not so much concerned with the blue chippers in this draft. we may still stick at #13 if we really like a guy. and that’s okay too. but if they do decide to trade down because they feel there’s talent to be had that can really help, I’m good with that too.
PFF has us taking Edge Burns out of FSU.
I worry that he is another harris, good bender, quick first step, skinny, weak, bust
Agreed. I’m already on record here saying that he’s a 1-trick pony… just like Dion Jordan. And that was Jordan as the prospect… not the mental mess that he was.
I’d rather go with a stout run-supporter who can also rush the passer: Clelin Ferrell.
And PFF had Ed Oliver, Christian Wilkins, and Dex Lawrence all still undrafted when they gave us Burns.
I think that shows they are not studying that we cut loose all the smallish DEs we had and brought in a DC as HC who comes from a tradition of really big DEs and LBs.
Not ot mention the busty Harris.
Okay… I want to see the final 53. Go Phins!!!!
Same here, man!!!
CAN’T WAIT!!!
GO PHINS!!!
Depends on the trade down. I dont want to trade out of the first.
It’s hard to say until it unfolds, because we dont know what crazy shenanigans will happen until they do.
The NFL is a talent acquisition business. We have no clue if this group of coaches can even coach up guys yet. People did this same thing with Gase when he got rid of talent and wanted to bring in “his guys”. Go draft/find the most talented guys you can. Build up the talent pool on this team.
***
Just because a guy is talented, doesn’t mean they aren’t hard workers or can’t be coached. Where does that thought even come from? The best players are, in fact, often the hardest working guys….that’s often how they got really good. Just because a guy is a first round pick does not mean he’s a diva or won’t take coaching….and is absolutely no reason not to draft in the first round. SMH.
***
Again, I can see the logic in trading back and acquiring multiple picks with where this team currently is. But, trading back is simply a strategy….not a guarantee of success. You still need to draft well.
there is no guarantee of success no matter what you do. just because you pick a guy in the top half of the draft doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed to be good. the draft has a ton of history with picks in the first rd who didn’t pan out; from all positions.
yes, trading back is a strategy and it does not guarantee success. when you’re a team drafting players you really need to have as close to a complete package within your organization as you can from top to bottom. great talent evaluators and coaches who know how to get the best out of the players you take will go a long way. but even if a guy looks good on film and checks all the boxes it doesn’t mean he’s going to be a good one.
I really don’t care where a player is drafted. there’s plenty of guys who were drafted after the first rd who had great careers with their teams. there’s plenty of guys who went undrafted who had great careers.
so I can care less about the pick at #13 as much as I do about the complete package. if we can get more picks and get the talent we need then I’ll take the numbers over just one guy. we had the ONE guy when we had Suh and we still had one of the worst defenses around. and even if you hit on that one guy at #13 or #3, like you said, you still need to draft well because you usually only have one first rd pick every year. and every 4 yrs you’ll need to re-sign them or lose them.
I guess what I’m looking at is this year looks like it has the talent pool after the first to really fill out this roster. Back in 2010; not so much. It’s not so much about the rebuild as it is there is plenty of talent to be had in the 2nd, 3rd and even 4th rds of this draft.
If you go back and look at some of the previous drafts they look like real stinkers. Whether or not the gurus back then thought they were going to be any better, I don’t know. But you can look at some of those drafts and there wasn’t much taken after rd two in some of them.
So, the reason I want to trade back this year is because I’m looking at what’s there and t just seems deeper in terms of talent. Of course, three years from now when the final analysis is in that may not be the case. But, I just don’t know so much that we need to stick at #13 and just go with what we have with our picks and call it a day. There’s too much talent that we’re going to miss out on.
So when does this draft things happen?
Two weeks from today it will be all over
lou,
I’m excited to see just how Grier handles things. It should be an interesting draft. We’ll find out in a few years whether or not he knew what he was doing.
Miami’s New York South, right?
would you guys want Russ Wilson here?
Would he not rather come here with Flores than go to dysfunctional Giants?
But I ain’t one to gossip, so you ain’t heard that from me…
What fan wouldn’t want Russell Wilson? One of the best in the game, period.
If I’m Seattle I’m doing everything I can to make him happy to be there.
I agree, I can’t see any team letting him go, I don’t know where this whole thing started.
The only thing I can think of is that they broke up their championship team and Wilson might be like what exactly are we doing here?
The big question is compensation. What would SEA be looking for in exchange for Russell Wilson? My guess would be at least two 1st RD picks, and probably additional picks as well. I would give up all of that for Wilson. How many starting QB’s have a .675 winning percentage, a better than 3-1 TD:INT ratio, + over 3600 yards rushing with 16 rushing TD’s. He’ll be 30 the entire season this year, so you have to figure he’s good for at least 7-8 years minimum, certainly 5 great years for sure.
and we have the scramble drill wideouts and RBs that he loves, too.
He’s an example of being successful by having the QB before making the OL perfect.
We could trade him straight up for Luke Falk, since the Pacific NW is where Luke was so successful. OK Maybe we’d have to throw in a draft pick.
Tiger wins The Masters!
You a fan? Good for golf though. Do remember the days when they said he was gonna shatter the Golden Bear’s career records though….. lot of water under the bridge since then.
Yep!!! He is back for sure. You could see the pressure getting to the other 2 playing with him. It was the “Tiger Affect” we have not seen in a decade.
Hey if he wants some celebrity ink for him and his pretty woman, well, South Beach is a better fit for them than NYC in that sense.
LOL @ Naples
From our standpoint — I think the no more fun Q is “why would Russell Wilson want to come to the dolphins?” They trade him and might change up what QB we do get though.
Maybe, maybe not. Gotta figure the Giants would be giving up the #6 pick and possibly their #17 as well, which would put SEA in prime position to take a QB instead of the NYG
Even if that happened seems would be a push though overall. Except if you buy into the Giants might not take a QB. And am not on that one…. but maybe they get Rosen instead.
Stanger – I’ve heard so many NY sports talk show hosts say the Giants aren’t interested in a QB at this time, they want to build a team to win with Eli. It may be true, but I have a hard time buying that
Summon Randy. LOL
Sounds great! It always does. Hopefully he can deliver.
Randy and I had a discussion last week about offseason talk from a coach etc. and he said wait until we hear… basically exactly this. LOL
The moral of the story is… show it on the field like you said.
LOL, yeah it’s straight out of the ‘New Coach 101’ handbook. Not putting the guy down or anything. He’s ticking the right boxes, saying the right things, but it’s nothing new.
I’ll be cautiously optimistic and hope this guy can deliver, but your last sentence sums it up. Show it on the field.
Draft in 11 days, then fill out the roster, then start to see this coaching staff in action.
At some point we should do a mock draft. Maybe instead of live which is hard to do sometimes, do a poll 1st rd mock.
someone did it on Twitter but there you’re limited to only 4 choices on the poll for each rd and I kind of get the feeling they had a bit of an agenda with the players who were on the poll in each rd because some guys weren’t going to be there in the rounds they were suggesting they would be there in
Good luck, Toba!
Thanks you too .. It is do or die time
I know there’s a lot of skeptics out there who feel like we’ve seen it and heard it all before but when Flores says it I believe it. Yeah, they still need to show it on the field but one of the reasons I think they got rid of the players they did is because they wanted to be able to start from scratch with their ideology and not have vets try to influence the younger guys on the teams; or poison them.
Blue Jackets up 2-0 and controlling play against the Lightning. Unbelievable collapse happening with that team. Gotta think not playing a meaningful game in the last two months had an impact.
Now these are the Jets I like to see 👍👍
Aww geez the bolts are losing, that means more of Ross fuck up articles are coming. LOL

It’s funny you should say that. I was thinking the same thing earlier today at work, but doing it live like we usually do.
If we can get 4 or more people (what do you think?) to get together on a given evening, I think we should make it happen. I’d REALLY like to do 2 rounds if we can.
Last year we did it spontaneously, without any prep, on the same night… it went pretty alright. If we can get folks ‘registered’ to a given date and time, we should be able to blow through 2 rounds in under 2 hours.
Count me in!
I think everyone should do their own draft and then everyone else can mock it
LOL
Lmao Lou!
9 more days til the draft starts, almost there.
After the draft, We should have a much better idea what direction the team is headed.
And HELL yea on Disney Stocks, when You believe in a company, go heavy and hold long term!
My buddy was laughing at Me on Thursday when Disney was down a percent, i implored him to buy some, told him I bought more, and Disney will shock the world by next week, they were candle roping
We argued for almost an hour, lol
Disney was the Number one blue chipper Friday, up almost 12 on Friday 😎
And I didn’t rub it in, ok I did, lol. He deserved it buying Apple and Intel , instead of Disney
Tim,
How about we do it like this… announce the date and time for the F-MU ’19 Mock Draft, and anybody who wants to take part in it can do so… that’s pretty much what we did last year at this time. I’ll ‘pre-fab’ the selection numbers and teams in advance, in order to make it go much faster this year. And instead of waiting 5 minutes between picks like we did last year, we take it down to 3 minutes between picks this year. Majority vote-getter is the selection for the team on the clock.
What do ya think?
My prediction on Disney shares are north of $400 by 2024. They are severely undervalued.
They are a full margin stock, currently $130. And have quarterly dividends.
They will destroy any other blue chip on the board, they are the Amazon of Entertainment 😎
If Disney screws up “The Rise of Skywalker”, their stock is going to take a HUGE tumble. Just sayin’!
Don’t think so, they are a giant octopus, check out their streaming conference from last Thursday, they are gonna have streaming for 7 bucks a month, content will blow away netflix, and will include live sports, news, shows, movies, etc Look out Netflix.
Netflix was down almost 5 Friday, they Got pancaked by the Disney Tank.
Disney had their best day in ten years!
Investors are selling Netflix to buy Disney, and Netflix is a $350 stock, HMmmmmmm, Yea
But I’m used to Disney critics, lmao, but I did My homework, and had most of my profile sitting on the Disney candlerope Thursday, telling my biggest Disney critic the Mouse will shock the world by next week.
And yes, Disney helped propel the Dow to its first triple digit gain in a long time, it snowed the shit out of the other blue chips, looked like a hot penny stock, lol
They won’t do 12 everyday, but investors have now realized that the top buy on the market is Disney.
They have the absolute highest buy opinions and ratings possible , perfect scores,
by every analyst I have checked
If I say Wednesday, April 17th, at 8:00 PM EST, how many people will be IN for the F-MU Mock Draft?
If I have time I’ll bite, but I’m pretty busy this week, I’ll have to play it by ear
I still trying to finish up My last big project before I retire, or at least semi retire
Your more than welcome to ‘attend’, Brah! It’s usually a good time… and it’s the collective efforts and interaction that makes it fun.
*You’re
I should have extra time this week since I don’t have to do so much stock research.
I did at least a hundred hours of research on Disney alone in the last month.
Markets easy now, I’m just buying all the Disney I can, it’s a rocket ship 😎
