2019 Dolphins Draft Summary – Looking at the season through Rosen colored glasses

So the NFL draft came and went in a whirl wind weekend. I think we made out pretty well. 2 major holes filled, or potentially filled, it’s still unknown at the moment. In my mind, the order of importance for me was QB, DL, OL. That’s how I saw it, and it wasn’t going to be easy to fill all those needs completely in one draft. For perspective, we used 6 picks in this draft, next season we have 12 picks, one 1st RD pic, two 2nd RD picks, two 3rd RD picks, two 4th RD picks, one 5th RD pick, and two each of 6th and 7th RD picks. We’re going to do a lot of fixing next season, and it’s not only a substantial draft haul, we will be flush with cap money, near $100M, so we will have plenty of flexibility to continue to add quality players to our roster.

So here’s what we did so far . . .

DT Christian Wilkins 6’3 315 Clemson Round 1 Pick #13

Wilkins was one of the top prospects on the DL in this draft. A very high character player with off the charts leadership abilities, he’s a foundation player that can set the tone in the locker room, as well as on the field. A very productive player at Clemson, Wilkins was a 4 YR starter with excellent tackling ability,. He can also get to the QB with 16 total sacks in 4 seasons. He has great burst and short are quickness, and should slide in immediately as a starter in either a 3-4 or 4-3 front.

QB Josh Rosen 6’4 226 UCLA/Arizona Cardinals Round 2 Pick #62 + 2020 5th RD Pick

Originally the 10th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Josh spent last season with the Arizona Cardinals. Rosen started 13 games last season for Arizona finishing with 11 TD’s and 14 INT’s as well as a 55% completion percentage. It was a difficult rookie season on a very poor team evidenced by the firing of rookie HC Steve Wilks after 1 season. RB David Johnson was coming back after missing most of the previous season and was not the same player and rarely found any running room and finished with 1386 total yards in 2019 after finishing with 2118 total yards in 2016, his last full season. Larry Fitzgerald was really the only reliable target on a poor offense.

OG Michael Deiter 6’5 309 Wisconsin Round 3 Pick #78

Dieter was a 3 year starter at Wisconsin, and was actually a first team all-conference pick as a starter at LT. He played the rest of his college career however at at both guard spots and center. Obviously, Deiter is versatile and play most anywhere but is projected as an OG/C. Deiter neeeds to work hark hard in the weight room, but is a capable player who may end up playing sooner than later considering our depth along the O-line. He’s a good run blocker playing in Wiconsin’s pro style offense.

OLB Andrew Van Ginkel 6’3 241 Wisconsin Round 5 Pick #151

Andrew Van Ginkel was a 2 YR starter at OLB for Wisconsin. He has pass rushing ability and has 12 sacks in 2 seasons. Think of him as a Chase Winovich or T.J. Watt lite. He has athletic ability running a 4.56 40, a 38″ vertical, a super quick 4.14 20 yard shuttle and very good 6.89 3 cone drill. He’s a physical specimen that can hopefully find a place on our roster as pass rusher and chase and tackle LB.

OT Isaiah Prince 6’6 305 Ohio St. Round 6 Pick #202

Prince was a 3 YR starter at Ohio State, all at RT. Not coincidentally, we have a huge need at RT with the departure of Ja’Wuan James. He’s a project of sorts, not a natural knee bender and just beginning to improve with pass protection. I would imagine he will be in competition for a starting spot due to the lack of quality depth at the position with Zach Sterup and Jesse Davis. Another prospect that needs to hit the weight room (most do).

FB Chandler Cox 6’1 236 Auburn Round 7 Pick #233

Chandler Cox just sounds like a New England Patriot, doesn’t it? Cox played sparingly during 4 seasons with the Auburn Tigers. Cox was projected as an undrafted FA, but the Dolphins wanted him here. I expect Cox to make the 53. If the Patriots can get a starting QB late in RD 6, surely we can get a FB late in RD 7! Cox performed well at the Auburn pro day running a 4.7 40 with a 32″ vertical. Look for him to be worked hard to help spring the potential of our 2019 ground game, which should be exciting with the next guy I’ll discuss.

RB Myles Gaskin 5’9 204 Washington Round 7 Pick #234

Gaskin was a 4 YR starter at Washington and a very productive one at that. You look at his height weight combo you think bowling ball, but Gaskin is built more like a scat back, but he’s definitely an inside runner too, so he can do it all. Gaskin has 5323 rushing yards and 57 rushing TD’s in 4 seasons with Washington, along with 65 receptions and 465 yards receiving and 5 TD’s. This dynamo ran a 4.58 40 with a nice vertical. He’s got a lot of wiggle in him, and I think he’ll definitely be part of what I view as a very nice, diversified backfield with Kenyan Drake, Kalen Ballage and FB Chandler Cox. He has a lot of mileage but I expect he’ll continue to rack more up here in Miami.

In addition to our draft picks, we were busy as expected picking up a number of undrafted free agents. I’m not positive this is the most up to date or accurate list, but this is what I found . . .

  • Terrill Hanks, LB, New Mexico State
  • Preston Williams, WR, Colorado State
  • Tyler Horton, CB, Boise State
  • Deion Calhoun, OL, Mississippi State
  • Nik Needham, CB, UTEP
  • Montre Hartage, CB, Northwestern
  • Ryan Anderson, OL, Wake Forest
  • Wes Farnsworth, LS, Nevada
  • Dewayne Hendrix, DE, Pitt
  • Jonathan Ledbetter, DE, Georgia
  • Trenton Irwin, WR, Stanford
  • Aaron Monteiro, OL, Boston College
  • Rob Rolle, S, Villanova
  • Tre Watson, LB, Maryland

All in all, I’m really very pleased with the end result of the draft weekend. Am I looking at this through Rosen colored glasses? Of course I am! I’m getting more enthusiastic about acquiring QB Josh Rosen each day. I think he’s going to come in here and work very hard to be a difference maker, and although I think Ryan Fitzpatrick is a swell guy, I think his impact will be more as a mentor than a starting QB. I think Rosen will be our starter in 2019, and I think he’s going to earn it all the way.

This doesn’t mean we’re a Superbowl team, we still have some big holes. Our O-line needs to get settled, and I don’t think we’re done there yet either. Once cuts start happening, there will be a few veteran OL that could probably help us and I expect to pick up 1 or 2 there. Same goes for the D-line, we have little talent on the edge and also expect to get a little help once cuts begin for the DE position as well.

No one expected us to rebuild everything in one season, that’s just totally unrealistic. That doesn’t mean we can’t get to the point of being respectable. I think we can achieve that, and not be an easy beat for any team. I want to continue to improve each week and see growth, and that will put us in great position next season where we have 12 picks, and multiple picks in the first 100, and likely around $100M in cap space. It’s very promising indeed! GO DOLPHINS!

Well, it is confirmed. I am a yuge dick! I just texted back and forth with my sister and I am in the dog house now. “My wedding is on the 23rd not the 13th you asshole”

    Geeze, I am such a terrible brother…..

Good (or bad depending on your noise tolerance) news is I WILL be in town for the Fest.

Stanger put me down as a yes!

I may even get a room down near you guys for the weekend so I don’t have to worry about driving the hour north after D&B or the other festivities.

I’ll have to find out where you guys are all staying once you have solidified your plans.

    • Tim Knight says:

      LOL

    • Rockphin says:

I sent her a text to fuck around saying “Hey, something came up, a bunch of my friends are all getting together Oct 13th to go to the Dolphins game so I am going to have to miss your party.”

      “What party?”

“Your wedding, I am only kidding don’t get worked up”

“My wedding in on the 23rd not the 13th you fucking asshole”

FEST — Get on the list

Seat draft is next Monday and need to get a sense of how many people might (and only mean might) be there. Don’t have to set the actual number until like 8 weeks before the game, but after Monday can’t get more.

Skins game on Oct 13 is the clear winner (12-6) in the poll and will go with that unless some serious talking about it on board (sorry Krishna).

Started the list based on what what people have said on the board, but could have forgot some. And yeah that means if you said the Skins date was good counted you as in, but can correct.

Who else is thinking Fest? And if you aren’t sure just become a possible.

    IN
    Hulk
    Mike E (+1-3)
    Pig
    Doggy (+2)
    Son (+ ?)
    stanger (+2-4)
    OD

    Phelon (+2) (own seats)

    Brian NY (+1?)

  3. Rockphin says:

    Oh, Jesus Mary & Joseph!

My other sister just texted me. I’m an asshole because SHE TOLD ME it was the 23rd how could I think it was the 13th? Why do I have to get Aimee pissed off all the time? She doesn’t have time to deal with her while she is at work!

OMG I am such a shit heal LOL!!! The fact that my sister called my other sister about it is funny as hell. I have to tell my brother little brother now. I think we can get some mileage out of this.

ha ha ha! I’m gonna have him start pretending like HE thinks it is on the 13th too.

(kind of a running joke in my family because 4 of them have their birthdays on the 22nd (May 22, June 22nd, Sept 22nd and Oct 22nd and my one sister is July 21st, we all call her on the 22nd to wish her happy birthday every year and every year she goes ape shit because “we missed her birthday”
It started when my mom made the mistake one year and we have all piled on since then. LOL

    • CavalierKong says:

I just wish Mando would practice what he preaches.

      He states:
“But when opinion gets distributed as fact that bothers me a little. Because that’s spin. And spin is different. Spin takes what is a fact and tries to shape it toward an intended conclusion.”

His whole f%$#*&5ing ‘tanking’ narrative was EXACTLY what he is railing about here. Opinion being presented as fact, shaping a narrative. He’s been throwing a hissy fit ever since his spin got blown out of the water, lol.

I gotta be honest, I haven’t read past that line of the article yet, so I don’t knwo what else he has to say, lol.

    • D says:

I have gotten to where i rarely read any of their stuff anymore, Barry Jackson is on my shit list now after what he said about our draft, not that i ever really considered him a real source either. Its really a shit show when you look at Miami reporters.

LOL — you must have been fun to grow up with…. least at times. 🙂

    Yeah, no.

We are seven very competitive very diverse individuals who could barely agree on what day of the week it was growing up. Someone was always torturing someone else or bickering or fighting. It was nearly constant chaos. We “hated” each other growing up.

That being said we would all murder someone else without hesitation if they messed with any one of us. (well except for the oldest Marc, he’s a dick)

  6. D says:

    D,
I don’t get why people are saying 2021. Lawrence is gonna be the #1 IF he continues to ball out and comes out early. And, lots of teams will want him. So, if the team picking first doesn’t take him, which is highly unlikely, it’s gonna cost a king’s random to get him. After Lawrence, I don’t think the pool of QBs is any better in 2021 than it is in 2020. Plus, it’ll probably cost less to move up and get someone in 2020…both because we’ll probably be closer to the #1 pick and it won’t cost as much to get Lawrence. So, 2020 seems like a more realistic option for getting your QB. Lawrence is the gem, but is it really realistic to think we have a shot unless we have the #1 pick?
    ———————————————–
Randy i dont ever look at future drafts and think about specific players because i know there is a really good likelihood we dont have a shot at them. Im just saying mote in general 2021’s QB class who by the time that year rolls around with have 3-4 guys all up for consideration. 2020 would be a little soon for a full evaluation of Rosen to me, but im not saying they wouldnt look thre is there was already some glaring indication of “he’s not the one” im just saying that if he is picking things up, even if he isnt completely there i think they might take a QB to put behind him i just dont think they would force the issue.

  7. D says:

Rock you should have texted her back, good because i was just about to let you know i had to cancel because i have a football game with a bunch of friends from out of town that weekend.

  8. D says:

Im saying treat him like a rookie, but i guess i should have quantified, a rookie first rounder top 10 (which he was). I believe that it wouldn’t be bad to let him have a chance to settle into the position before putting him out there, but id have him starting before the midway point of the year. If the guy picks it up and is ready to go, im not worried about him waiting, put him in there, but just like most teams did with the 1st rounders last year, give them a few games to make that decision, there is no need to rush it day 1.

  9. Mike E. says:

Rock – You would have been better off not going to the wedding. lol

  10. Rockphin says:

Look, if Rosen lights it up in 2019, all is well.

If Rosen stinks in 2019, all is well.

The answers then will be obvious.

But if Rosen is middling, then we have the potential for mucking up the decision to take another guy. Because someone will make the case it’s his first year in the system, and the offensive line struggled or some other mitigating excuse.

My hope is the Dolphins, who wasted seven years waiting for Ryan Tannehill to reach his ceiling, don’t repeat the mistake.

If Rosen is not great, pick another guy, no matter the circumstances. And keep picking until you find someone who truly is great.

    THIS^^^^^^^^

    • Tim Knight says:

You have to give young QBs a few seasons. Unless they’re just so bad and you’re not seeing any growth.

      • Rockphin says:

well that flat out sucks then because that means we are stuck with Rosen for until at lease 2021 and we will forever be mediocre!

      • Tim Knight says:

Not necessarily. We’re going to be a mediocre team this year anyway. Then in 2020 if he’s not progressing the coaches may say we’re not sure he’s the guy and they’ll re-evaluate in the offseason. That will be 3 seasons for Rosen. His rookie season is on tape. I think our coaches give him at least two seasons.

Why don’t we wait and see how he performs rather than expecting the worse and already looking to replace him after we just acquired him for a 2nd rd pick and 2020 5th. He hasn’t even suited up as a Phin yet. LOL

  11. wyoming85 says:

I wonder if there is a player that Grier would use some draft capitol on?

    • wyoming85 says:

      ????????????
The Titans selected Conklin with the eighth overall pick in that draft and installed him as a starter right off the bat. He started every game over his first two seasons, but tore his ACL in a playoff loss to the Patriots in January 2018.

He missed the first three games of last season due to the torn ACL, missed another with a concussion and then landed on injured reserve with another knee injury near the end of the season. He missed seven games altogether and the fact that the option is guaranteed against injury may be part of the reason why the Titans have decided not to exercise it.

  12. Randy says:

I was imagining Rosen coming in about game 4. Right after Fitz throws 3 INTs.

  13. ElephantRider says:

    Stanger

Go ahead and remove me from possible to out. No way I can do it that week.

  14. wyoming85 says:

Rose has 1 sit and watch / then Start season!

My expectations is that he comes in and takes the starter job!

    Anything less would be disappointing!

  15. stangerx says:

“The Kansas City Chiefs have signed Jamaal Charles to a one-day contract so he can retire as a member of the team.” Love how that guy played. Know injury was involved….. but out at 32. Playing RB is tough.

  16. Randy says:

    Wyoming,
We should see plenty of Rosen in the PS. Fitz ate a lot of cake. Lol

  17. Rockphin says:

Why don’t we wait and see how he performs rather than expecting the worse and already looking to replace him after we just acquired him for a 2nd rd pick and 2020 5th. He hasn’t even suited up as a Phin yet. LOL

Because it is another year’s delay and I am definitely on record by now expressing my feeling that it was a mistake and a waste of a 2nd and 5th.

    • Tim Knight says:

That’s the way it goes for any young player. You don’t write them off after a year or two. Especially a QB.

  18. Rockphin says:

Like Mondo said above. If Rosen is great fantastic move on. If he sucks, fantastic, move on and draft another but if he is mediocre then that sucks, but if that is the case they should draft another high.

I will use your guys logic against you. If in year two he is mediocre and they pick a top guy in 2020 and THEN Rosen takes a step, great, then we have trade bait for someone.

    • D says:

Im fine with that but what im saying is, every year has good candidates for replacement, and 2020 or 2021 wont matter as long as they know to cut the chord when they need to. I think your fear is all of our fear. Not another fucking long drawn out wish for something awesome and get something mediocre. Im just saying we dont need to fee pressured to take a guy in 2020 unless we just know shit isnt working out with Rosen. If we think its heading int he right direction we can use our draft stock on finishing out the team instead of packaging up picks to move up and take another QB. For me personally, he would have to be on the bad side of my evaluation for me to make that kind of move. I dont see us picking 1 next year, maybe not even top 5, so we will definitely have to lose picks to get our guy if it comes to it, it just needs to be worth it and not a knee jerk reaction.

  19. Randy says:

Grier said they were trying to get an additional 1st or 2nd rounder in next year’s draft. That may suggest they want to be able to move up in the first round in the draft next year.

    • Tim Knight says:

It could also be to draft quality players at other positions. We still have a team to build outside the QB. Guys become FAs and you need to keep bringing in talent. The team is going to look a lot different in 2020 than this year’s team with the cap space we’ll have and the extra draft picks.

We have the 2020 offseason to discuss if targeting another QB is likely. Can we play the 2019 season first? LOL

  20. Rockphin says:

In 2005 we had Gus Frerotte and Sage Rosenfels as our QB’s and we took Ronnie Brown at #2 when Aaron Rogers was on the board….I don’t want Rosen to be next years Frerotte…..

    • wyoming85 says:

Good lord PLEASE don’t name the QB’s since Marino!
I’m getting ready for lunch!!!!!! 😉

    • Tim Knight says:

Frerotte was more like Fitzpatrick, a vet QB. Saban didn’t want to invest in a young QB because he didn’t want to go through growing pains and wanted to win right away. It was a bad plan.

  21. Rockphin says:

I was going to list all the 2nd round QB’s we have had through the years (those we traded 2nd round picks for and those we used 2nd round picks to select) up to an including Rosen, but I got disgusted and deleted the post.

  22. Randy says:

My worst fear is Rosen becomes another Tannehill. We can not afford to hitch our franchise to another mediocre QB for years.

    • Tim Knight says:

I don’t think this new coaching staff will give him more than two years to prove he’s the guy. I think he has to show signs this year and then really progress in 2020. But can we let the guy play at least a down first? He probably doesn’t even have a jersey yet. LOL

    • D says:

Yeah i dont see that happening again. i think they did that with Tanny because so much shit kept changing behind the scenes that they were thinking his performance was due to those changing factors and didnt draw a line. They should have drawn a line much sooner than they did, but they didnt and we suffered as a team for it.

      • Tim Knight says:

Also when Gase was hired if you remember the press conference it was all about winning soon. It’s a different direction this time around and Flores signed up for the rebuild for long term success. I see all players on short leashes this time around. If you’re not doing your job and you’re not a good fit you won’t be here.

  23. wyoming85 says:

If you were wondering if it was just us?

  24. Rockphin says:

    A.J. Feeley!

    —————————————-
Think about all the different positions on the football field and i think you come to the conclusion that RB and LB, maybe Safety have the highest collision ratios. QB’s have the most rules to protect them, WR has a good bit of ones to protect them but QB are usually throwing to them when they are open an out of a congested part of the field. OL are short burst collisions and are more prone to injuries putting massive strain on ligaments or people falling on them, but a RB and a LB in particular is about running into the teeth of the opposition, and RB more so than LB. Safeties sometimes operate as mini LB, so i included them but to me RB’s position and what they are called to do is almost absurd. Here hold on to this thing and run into that wall as hard as you can, but hold on to the ball. Ok now do it again, hell with it let make it 20-30 times a game, for a minimum of 16 weeks. Tough position to play is right.

Grier said they were trying to get an additional 1st or 2nd rounder in next year’s draft. That may suggest they want to be able to move up in the first round in the draft next year.
    ——————————-
Its called hedging your bets. If you accumulate more picks you have that ability, if not you have more picks to fill more positions. With next year being probably the core building year for what they are trying to do, it made sense to try to stack picks for that year and open up the draft strategy.

  27. D says:

I dont know if anyone saw what i posted back on draft day 1. Where i had heard that Philly was trying to trade with us to take Wilkins and we were looking to trade back and take Simmons. We woulda got fucked if we did since Tennessee took Simmons before Philly’s pick, but they had almost agreed upon that deal and then backed out and took Wilkins. That trade was supposed to include a future 1st.

    • Mike E. says:

Wow, that’s something. I was good with making that move, but yeah, we would have gotten screwed. This year at least

    • Rockphin says:

Damn, they should have done it! (if it included a future first) There were still quality players left even if Simmons wasn’t. Sweat, Tillery, Taylor, Ford, McCoy

      • D says:

I thought about Sweat on that day, i even asked if you got a future first out of it, and ened up with Sweat, would that be better than getting Wilkins. I really liked Sweat in this draft process, and thought i like Wilkins for us A LOT, i think i could have made that deal. I think though they were targeting DT the whole way.

  28. ElephantRider says:

    Stanger

I plan to! Next year it is!

  29. Tim Knight says:

I can see this offseason and season is going to be annoying all year. The local media is already posting stuff about Tua in 2020 and fans are already doubting Rosen before he plays a snap for us. Oh boy! The fun of being a Dolphins fan. LOL

    • Rockphin says:

I’m hoping we don’t have a “false positive” season this year like we did with Sparano & Gase. If we come out of the box kicking ass yay! But not if it is smoke and mirrors like with those two. I would prefer us to be 3-13 this season if THEN the stars align and we get the high draft picks that set us on the road to perpetual success.

  30. Randy says:

    D,
Teams often make those trades contingent on whether or not the player they want is actually there, don’t they? They simply wait until the picks are made in front of them to make the trade official.

    • Mike E. says:

Not when you’re trading back you can’t

    • Tim Knight says:

Wilkins would have been there for the Eagles at #13 but the trade couldn’t wait on Simmons for us. We would have lost our guy.

    • Rockphin says:

How would that work in our case though? We were trading back so we would have already given up our pick. Now I could see Philly saying never mind if they guy they wanted to trade up for was taken at 12 for instance.

  31. D says:

Allen, Gesicki, Smythe, Walford, O’Leary. 5TE’s on the roster or which goes? Walford was picked up by this crew, Smythe and Gesicki i would think are safe being second year players, and cheap. Allen was picked by this crew and i think is probably the biggest FA we picked up. Makes me think if we only carry 4, O’Leary is the odd man out. Can put him in the category of bad luck seems to always keep him from sticking on rosters, when he seems to be a fairly solid player.

  32. Randy says:

Yes, I meant Philly would say they’d make that trade only if their guy was there. If we made it, we’d be screwed. But, if philly was making the move to get a particular player, the trade just wouldn’t happen if that player was picked prior to our spot.

    • Mike E. says:

      Right

    • Tim Knight says:

Right, but if their target was Wilkins he was there and we decided not to make the trade.

      • D says:

Yeah they just thought better of it. They were HOPING to get Simmons if he was still around at the Philly spot, but like i said he wouldn’t have been so we kind of got lucky we backed out of the trade. Sweat would have been a nice consolation selection, but they seemed intent on getting a DT to anchor the DL with our first rounder and they likely got one. His tape is impressive.

  33. Tim Knight says:

If you look at video of Wilkins he lined up at DT, NT, DE and OLB (2 point – standing up). You can’t get anymore multiple than that. 🙂

  34. Tim Knight says:

Omar did some interesting football work about the Pats defense recently. The Joker role would be Harris and Van Ginkel and the Rover role would be Minkah which is the role Patrick Chung plays. He cited we don’t have the NT. Not sure about that yet.

    • Mike E. says:

I saw that, but that I thought he called the LB role the Jack

Okay maybe he did use Jack but it’s the same as Joker. Teams use different terminology for the same positions.

Jason Taylor used to play Jack for us when he was the romer (I think under Saban?)

He was up the coaches ass to play QB too! LOL

  36. Rockphin says:

So who is the patriots NT? Brown or Guy? neither are all that much heavier / bigger than the guys we have on the roster. All our guys are right around the 320 mark.

    • Rockphin says:

Mike Pennel from the Jest last season is their biggest guy right now at 332

    • Tim Knight says:

He mentioned that the Pats never quite replaced Wilfork. I could see Gochaux, Wilkins and someone else rotating at NT. If they can do it well we’re good. If not someone has to play it until they find that guy. It’s early but in the first voluntary minicamp Godchaux said he was lining up at the 0 and 1 technique. He then said, when it comes to playing on the DL you have to do your job wherever you lineup.

We’re early in the process of this new direction. We’re not going to have perfect fits everywhere at the start anyway.

      • Rockphin says:

I really like Godchaux. He was another great 5th round pick for us. (not saying he is a Probowler like Jones) but it is really nice to hit on those late round picks.

      • Tim Knight says:

I’m a Godchaux fan too. He’s a lunch pail type guy who gives it everything he has and he’s pretty good. Vincent Taylor in the 6th was another one. He was starting to come on and of course he got hurt. I see him as 4-3 DT and 3-4 DE. His lower body is too slim for NT. His teammates make fun of him for having chicken legs for such a big guy. Godchaux and Wilkins are built more solidly throughout.

  37. Rockphin says:

a funny patriot centric thing about the Patriot’s website. NONE of their rookies list a position. Where other teams sites will show LB or RB the pats don’t give them a position until the season starts.

  38. CavalierKong says:

Man, this AJ Freund story just gets worse and worse. The perpetrators in these cases should be sentenced Old Testament style, eye for an eye.

  39. Mike E. says:

The Pats did bring in Danny Shelton, who was probably the closest thing to Wilfork they had. I think they let him go in FA though

  40. CavalierKong says:

How about Syndergaard single-handedly beating the Reds, lol? Throws a shutout and wins 1-0 on his own HR.

    • Tim Knight says:

Wow, way to go Thor!!! A complete game shutout and wins the game with HR. That’s pretty rare stuff. The Mets needed him to step up because he’s been off so far.

    • Mike E. says:

That’s great. I like when he shuts up and pitches great. HR is nice too, especially in this game

I saw Endgame last weekend and pretty much agree with your view. It’s hard to talk about without giving spoilers, but simply put, I thought Infinity War was a superior movie.

I actually checked the time twice during Endgame to see how long was left. Infinity War I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, and didn’t once think about the time.

  45. D says:

We have had Wake in the Jack role before too, we have seen it a lot, we just aren’t familiar with the terminology to know thats what that was. I think Omar just found a new buzz word to play with to make it sound like he knows something. Remember the times that we awkwardly watched Wake stand up and drop back into the flats-zone in coverage or maybe even the few tiems we ever saw him stand up and follow the TE. Thats the Jack. Harris and Van Ginkle are going to be use in way more ways than that, though i can agree i can see them filling that role when they are out there and want to get an extra player into coverage.

Not when you’re trading back you can’t
    ———-
All we had to do with the Philly trade was draft Wilkins, then when Philly was on the clock, if the guy we wanted was there, then execute the trade.

    • D says:

We could have done it like that since we knew what they were wanting to trade for. I found it interesting the other day hearing about the fact that team will a lot of times ask who they are trading for and get answers, though the thing i read said sometime they also lie with their answer, so there’s that.

    • Mike E. says:

If we did that, and we didn’t really want Wilkins, what happens if our guy isn’t there at #22?

  50. sb7mvp says:

    Kong,
I went to see Endgame again last night and enjoyed it slightly more the second time. It is definitely missing the pacing of the first one and if they didn’t feel the need to shoehorn Captain Marvel into it, that would be step one in making it better. I understand what they were trying to do with the beginning considering what happened in infinity war, but it was too slow. There are ways they could have accomplished the same thing and moved the plot along. I give it a 7.5

  51. Tim Knight says:

I’m totally happy we drafted Wilkins. He was one of my favorite prospects in this draft and he was the guy I selected in the want/will game we play. My want was whatever QB they like but Wilkins will be the pick so we kind of got both with the Rosen trade. 🙂

  52. Rockphin says:

I am struggling to figure something out then because a lot of you folks are from the area I’m going to ask you

Which of the following statements is true ?
    1. All New Yorkers don’t know how to drive
    2. All of the fucktard you export to South Florida do not know how to

    • stangerx says:

New Yorkers drive different, least the ones from the NYC area where your fender is your blinker cause only thing that works. Lot of them had summer homes where I grew up, and you knew was that season when the driving became more aggressive, the horns started honking and the fingers started flipping.

    • D says:

they send their oldest and most jewish it happens so i think it just happens organically from there.

    • Tim Knight says:

NY drivers are the worst when traveling down the shore. We call out NY license plates all the time in the fast lane driving 50mph fucking up the entire flow of the drive. But in my experience and I’ve driven a lot in my life, there are shit drivers from every state and Quebec as well. Those fucks in their minivans with luggage and bicycles attached driving 40-45 in any lane.

Glad I don’t drive as much these days because cell phoners are the worst drivers and the most dangerous, and they’re everywhere.

  53. D says:

How is it we avoid all the potential drama we could have had on here…. its disappointing because i wanted to use my new gif so now im resorting to unsolicited gif dropping.

  54. CavalierKong says:

    SB,
One of my buddies has talked me into seeing it again this weekend, so hopefully I come away with a more favorable view after a second viewing as well. I didn’t hate it, I just felt it dragged at times. Maybe it was just too much for me to assimilate in one go. I also thought Captain Marvel was forced, and I really had an issue with the massive plot hole and breaking of the movie’s own rules that is created by the last two scenes. (I’m trying to talk around it very carefully so nothing can be inferred by those who want to stay away from spoilers.)

  55. Rockphin says:

D, I remember Taylor being used way differently as the Jack than how we used wake. Do you remember him roaming Back and forth in the defense Sticking his nose in between to tackle the guard and then shifting to the other side between the tackle and garden and then shifting again to the outside of the tackle Just making everybody pay attention to where he may come across in screwing up all the assignments on the offense of line?

    • Tim Knight says:

Dude, many years ago I saw a NY guy in NY backing up at a circle because he missed the exit. LOL

  59. CavalierKong says:

I’ve never driven on the East coast, but I know about 80% of people out here in CA can’t drive for sh*t. And totally agreed, Tim, the cellphone driver epidemic is real. It boggles my mind how many idiots I see on their phone on a daily basis.

When they’re in front of you, it is so obvious as they swerve all over the place, slow down for no reason, and are just generally completely unaware. You pass these people, glance over, and yep, sure enough, dicking around on the phone.

    • CavalierKong says:

And I’m not even talking about people who know how to TALK on their phone responsibly. I don’t use my phone at all when I drive, but I know there are people who can make calls and walk at the same time.

I’m talking about people who’re checking facebook, posting videos, watching porn, or whatever the hell you do on your phone other than talk to the orthodontist about your kid’s upcoming appointment, lol.

      • Tim Knight says:

It reminds me of the women who do their makeup while driving. The problem is cell phoners are way more more abundant and they come in all walks of life.

I remember once seeing this dude back in the day driving an outdated car, driving slowly and reading the newspaper on a bridge at 45-50mph. It was so bizarre I broke out laughing but it shouldn’t be funny. LOL

    • Tim Knight says:

Yep it’s really scary. It’s like driving while chilling on the couch with the TV remote in your hand (steering wheel) while dicking around on the phone. It’s a special kind of stupid and lots of people will die because of it unnecessarily.

  64. naplesfan2010 says:

Wilkins was a premier pass-rusher in 2018, ranking third in pass-rush win rate and second in pressure rate in the class. Although his pass-rush grade may have been inflated with the poor level of competition, he is still undeniably one of the top interior defensive linemen in this draft.

Wilkins was a brick wall against the run, recording a 93.6 run-defense grade. Among the top interior defensive linemen in the class, no one recorded a lower average depth of tackle against the run than Wilkins at 0.1 yards.

Wilkins wasn’t always the dominant, all-around player we saw in 2018. He progressed throughout his four-year career at Clemson, especially as a pass-rusher. He has always been a better run defender than pass-rusher, but his jump in pass-rush grade from 67.8 in 2017 to 91.0 in 2018 makes him a 1st round talent in this draft.

He’s a camp arm. If he’s anything more than that it would be a major surprise. Our 2019 QBs are already on the roster. I could see Rudock being kept as a #3 too. Not saying he will, but wouldn’t be surprised if we kept three.

M13, the original Star Wars came out in 1977 when I saw it (12 years old) at a local theater in a nearby town in “Dolby Sound”. That was 42 years ago. People involved in that film are going to pass away along the way. It may be sad, but not unexpected or anything.

    • mf13ss says:

Of course! Still saddening, though. And once Episode IX drops this December, it will end the Skywalker saga. Too many of the original actors will never have lived long enough to see the saga’s completion. Bummer… at least to me.

I’m quite nostalgic, if not sentimental when it comes to these things… and I don’t deal well with death. I hear ya too, man… but it’s so hard for me to say goodbye. I’m getting better, but far from numb to it.

    • Tim Knight says:

I think you know death has a profound effect on me as well. In recent years a part of me disappeared because loved ones are no longer here. I will never get them back. That’s why I’m numb about it.

      • mf13ss says:

Totally understand ya, man. We all deal with these things differently. I usually end up in a funk for a long time after a loved one passes away. Not sure if I could ever become numb about it, but time shall reveal as I get a bit older.

      • Tim Knight says:

Numb is for people I’m not directly and emotionally attached too. Loved their craft in whatever. But people close to me, my loved ones, that’s not numb. It’s a dark void.

  82. Tim Knight says:

It’s funny, media types and fans think other teams are loaded at every position when they’re not. The difference is usually 2-3 players who impact a game within a solid team. Once again I’ll say we have more talent at some positions than even the good teams have. They have the 2-3 that make a difference.

Cards and us punted the most, meaning we sucked on having 3 and outs or drives stalling with no chance for a FG.
Our punter did ok to good though, wo that was ok.
Also we gave up way too much on runbacks.

  85. Tim Knight says:

I can’t wait for us to finish 7-9 or 8-8 and watch the media’s head explode, because we fucked up their tanking narrative. LOL

We’re not going to be an easy victory on the schedule. The national media ignores the young potential and talent on this team. The local media has a different more fucked up agenda. LOL

  86. naplesfan2010 says:

One bad thing is the Wilkins drafting did not move the needle for us to make us more highly regarded. Neither did the Rosen trade, nor did any of the other draft picks or FA signings.

The Flores hiring and his assistant coach selections did not help our status, nor did the FO acquisitions / associations, even though many praised the new coach.

We are still widely considered the worst team in the NFL.

  87. naplesfan2010 says:

I think our first game of the year is at home hosting The Ravens.

    Quote from Wilkins:

It’s beach season all year-round in Miami. My body is going to be in top shape and I’ll be running around with my shirt off all the time once I get those beach abs.”

😂LOL i’m waiting to see if that big boy can do it

Stanger – Yes I’ll be bringing my brother and my b-i-l to the fest. The latter is a big Skins fan.

yuk! We will treat him ok. There was an enemy in our midst last year too and we all welcomed him to the fold.

  94. D says:

I think the number if LBs is due to us needing to figure out if we have anyone versatile enough for the position in out multiples scheme. I don’t think any if them are locks for long term at this point

  95. sb7mvp says:

The biggest thing we have going for us is the biggest thing that can be against us and that’s the unknown surrounding this team. We dont know what our offense or defense is going to look like and no one has game film to use in preparation, and what they have wouldn’t matter because the QBs played for other teams in different systems. We could also have a coaching staff in over their heads so things could go in either direction.

  96. ocalarob says:

we may be able to ship rashad jones to pittsburgh, they need safety help.

  97. Mike E. says:

M – From last night’s convo – Harry Kalas had a great voice. To me he was one of the voices of NFL films along with John Facenda. I know he did Phillies games too but I couldn’t see Phillies broadcasts. Both Kalas and Facenda’s voices will both be forever etched in my mind.
