Potential Miami Dolphins 2019 Depth Chart

We have an awful lot of time between now and the start of the season, and considering we haven’t seen anything in the way of actual football activities, why not come up with a possible depth chart with nothing to go on? We spend hours upon hours on potential draft picks, so now that we have some players on the roster, might as well throw them on a depth chart for fun! This is how I believe we may start the season, it’s understood more players will be added and subtracted by then . . .

    WHO?

  10. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Stanger – I can’t say the same. Anything less than Rosen winning the starting job at some point this season would be extremely disappointing. If Fitz plays the entire season, playing well or not, then we’re taking a QB in 2020, and early!

I think by the end of the year, (just by going on Fitzmagic’s history) that Rosen will get his chance. Wait until Fitz has his first 4 interception game.

  13. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Stanger – Yeah man, disrupts my master plan. If we’re bad enough to get Tua, we can really cash in on a draft pick compensation bonanza. That’s what I have been dreaming of. So you think Rosen’s ceiling in Tannehill? Why?

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

He didn’t say that is what he thought, he said that is his fear, which I understand. We all want ELITE

It’s got to be tough being a gator fan. First a top recruit is bailing because of the QB, then they get called out for having the weakest schedule in division 1.
    ————————————————————————-
You cant have the weakest schedule in div 1 if its an SEC schedule. Even the easiest SEC schedule is harder than most other div 1 teams. Also its not uncommon for a player that wants to start now being behind another guy, or having a QB who they feel doesn’t give them the best opportunity to shine, choosing to transfer for a better chance. The NCAA has been having record transfers recently its become a real trend to have revolving players, specifically at QB. I am a Gator fan and none of that bothers me at all.

Just wanted to come on here and share with you guys today some interesting news that i just learned myself. So as not to leave you feeling excluded from any talk of transgender i have a new term for all of you non-transgendered folks. You are all now knows as Cisgendered, which is anyone who identifies as the sex they were assigned at birth. The fore example given was “a person who identifies as a woman and was assigned female at birth is a cisgendered woman”. You all are welcome, and can feel included since the groups that give labels to those who were anti their original one have now given you your new one too.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

So which bathroom do I go to now?

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Lol, South Park did an episode on the whole Cisgender thing. It’s hilarious. They describe the label as being used to replace the term ‘normal’, so these other groups of people don’t feel ‘abnormal’ by contrast.

I try to be understanding about this stuff, but it can be kind of tiring sometimes. I’m not going to refer to myself as cisgender. I’m going to refer to myself as a man or a normal man, lol.

  30. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

It’s already been shortened to Cis, as in “He’s so Cis …”

    Cis is actually not new.

  36. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I like Flores’ message that every position has competition and that includes QB. It lets Rosen know that his draft status in 2018 and what we traded to acquire him doesn’t hand him anything. He has to earn it and that’s the way it should be. Fitz will push him and that’s a good thing. However I do think Rosen’s arm is going to impress the coaches and that could give him the edge if they’re even.

I hope Rosen starts the season and if he struggles you have Fitz to come in, play for a bit and let Rosen gather himself, and then get another shot along the way. Kind of like with pitchers who have good stuff but they’re off their game. You work with them and get them back on track. We could see both Rosen and Fitz play quite a bit this year. To me that doesn’t mean Rosen is done. The coaches might have a very different view about the situation than fans and the media will. That’s probably very likely. LOL

    • D's avatar D says:

I’m glad that’s how Flores has it. No position should be guaranteed and that was one of the biggest issues I had with our handling of Tanny. If he had been pushed a little harder by having them taking QBs to have talent behind him might have brought out more in Tanny. The team failed Tanny as much as he failed us in that respect

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Very possible. There is a narrative out there now with fans and media if Rosen doesn’t take the job by storm this year we must look to the 2020 draft for a QB. It’s really silly. What if those prospects go through the same thing as Rosen? Draft one again in two years? Developing QBs is not like ordering appetizers and when they don’t come for 45 minutes you walk out. LOL

      • D's avatar D says:

If I was them I’d just play it by ear and a lot depends on how Rosen does and where they end up as far as draft position next year, well and who is available. Having Rosen and him doing well just makes next year not a desperate situation for us. To me Rosen would have to significantly fail to be thinking QB as our first pick in 2020

  37. D's avatar D says:

Try they have like 3 non conference games, so overall the schedule is still really tough. Most the sec teams have 3 what’s considered cupcake game usually the opener and before a big rival game in our case right before FSU. Usually that FSU game is also a really tough one but because of last year’s FSU record it’s probably considered an easy one. I do think this year we have Colorado and Texas as the other two of our non conference games which while they haven’t been great in past years those are two big program teams.

The QB the player that left our team was a top recruit and should affect us because he was a good DB but we have depth so it’s not overly concerning. It’s unfortunate because it’s really wasn’t the schools fault it was the roommate and his sexual battery that caused him to be upset that his name was tarnished. He had requested before the incident occurred to be transferred to a different room because he didn’t like that roommate but he didn’t give resaons he wanted to be moved so they chose not to change it until after the season ended. Unfortunately that guy committed the sexual assault before he got moved. I think they might get him back as Mullen went and talked to he and his family and settled some of it. They had reports the kid was pretty homesick too so maybe this was just the catalyst to go to a West coast school closer to home. The other two were 2021 recruits and those type commits change kind of frequently. The big thing is it was two 5 star guys who were and g the top athlete recruits in the nation. It could be that the position was not the one UF was wanting them to play because they have a lot of depth there. Either way I read those articles and they seem more sky is falling than it really is. UF has a luxury of having lots of 4 to 5 star recuits.

  38. D's avatar D says:

Cis isn’t new but the use of it to describe normal is. That’s been maybe a year in the making at this point though it’s news to me. It seems to have been floating around in internet subcultures for right around a year in that respect

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

It’s been going on for longer than that in internet subcultures, Brother. And I only know that because this whole “Cis” thing was reported a few years ago, went it went ‘mainstream’.

The big joke is that us straight men are now referred to as Cis-sies (sissies) by the LGBQABCDEFG… just to piss us off. It’s trying to mock the 90+% of us who don’t engage in their activities.

    Rounds 8-12

    ___________________
exactly. people will say all the time the draft is a crapshoot. I think some actually believe that means if a player isn’t drafted in the first 3 rds he’s not going to be any good anyway. He’s just a camp body.

they throw out all the statistics about the chances of making an NFL roster. however, I believe the best teams don’t look at it this way; they look at it as though they’ve got their picks in the 7 rds and then their priority undrafted free agents. a PFA is a player that’s still regarded highly but because there’s only so many picks you can’t take everyone you would like to.

so, when you hear the people from the Phins front office talking about these PFA’s they signed to the roster it’s not all fluff. they truly believe they brought in talent that can help the team and so do I.

  41. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Lou,

If you would, please give me your prediction of our ’19 Phins record when it’s all said and done.

Reminder: TAKE THE OVER of what Vegas has us at (5 mere wins)!!!

  42. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Too much we’re in a rebuild vs. instant satisfaction happening. What about this or that position? Is everyone crazy? The new era just started but all answers must be solved quickly! LOL

    • When I look at this team and the overall talent on the roster I see a lot of good players. We’re not starting from scratch as we’ve got plenty returning starters and plenty of players other than starters returning.

I realize we are going to need to rely on some rookies this year and our o line an d line look like big question marks to some people but I think the difference is going to be in preparedness.

That’s right. The difference is going to be in the details. Everything from the conditioning aspect to how well the coaches prepare the players to play the team they’re playing THAT particular week.

Why do I say this? Well, when you’re the home team playing in the heat and humidity of Florida and that’s supposed to be an advantage and the visiting teams seems like it’s handling the heat and humidity better than you are that’s a red flag.

Secondly, Adam Gase coached teams never looked or hardly ever looked like they were prepared to play their opponents. You watch their defense just missing on play after play. You watch the offense and see wr’s who can’t get open. Execution on both sides of the ball just looking terrible.

That difference right there can get us to be that much better in the first year with a new coaching staff. If they prepare these guys properly they can play with just about anyone.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I say let the first year at least play out. Lots of learning from all sides have to happen before we speculate the future. It’s getting crazy! It’s not tanking vs. Super Bowl, it’s never tanking vs. competing.

And I hope a bird shits on Omar’s head the next time he says New Bae. Really Omar, the guy just got traded here and you’re throwing out the adolescent nicknames? If you wanted the label of hack, you got it with that.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I agree Lou, but I also agree with Tim as it might be a little quick to be talking 8+ wins. It may not take long for the D to improve significantly though.

I hated that wide 9 4-3 crap we’ve been using, it really killed us vs the run, and we didn’t get enough sacks with it from the ends. Just going to a 3-4 should help our D, and the run D in particular, and you dont have to pay $40M in cap to Edge. The cheats get their sacks spread out, by doing that you dont have to pay an elite sack master.

  43. I don’t know if anyone saw the little video the team put up today on first day of rookie camp being over but when you see the look on Flores face watching those players out there it’s really something to see.

Brings back memories of The Don. The intensity is unbelievable.

  44. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The draft was cut to 7 rounds, because the NFLPA negotiated that into the agreement with the league. It occurred about the time of free agency. The point was to allow rookies to pick their own team, to give themselves a better chance to make a roster, so guys not drafted aren’t exactly fodder.

On the other hand, back in the day of lots of rounds, teams didnt have the tools available, like they do today, so more guys fell thru the cracks.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yep! And 8th thru 12th rd prospects made the roster. This first year with Flores is going to be about who fits, not name guys. This is how we play here. Next year we’ll have more ammo to add to it. Why is 2019 so crucial? It’s not! It’s just the beginning.

Extending X was a no-brainer. You keep your best players who are young and ascending. He’s our Revis.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

When you play top players at top positions it’s a good thing, when you pay guys like Tannehill and Suh you get to cap hell and still suck.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      Pay not play.

  45. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m a fan of Kiko Alonso but I still think a trade for 2020 draft compensation could happen in the next couple of months. It’s just a gut thing. Alonso can help a contending team now. Cap savings for us and more next year.

  46. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

James FIFA Harden waa. Nananana hey hey good bye.

  47. Dloxahatchee's avatar dloxahatchee says:

The draft is a crapshoot ,,,,,,

There is some truth to this but you must hit on the first three rounds to be a long term playoff contender type of team not heavy of a revolving door of older high priced free agents and up against the cap.

The first three round guys absolutely must play, no jersey selling superstars but your first round guy must be able to start, in 11 years your only getting 11 of them, you must hit this pick
This is why I hate drafting for “need” instead of bpa

Rounds 2/3 at a minimum must be rotational players, capable of next man up situations

We have not been doing this very well for a long time, hopeful that is changing, these last couple of drafts are looking full of possibilities

  48. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Dlox and bagels

I think we met your requirements this year. Wilkins will be a foundation of our defense, Rosen will be starting the season and finishing it too, and I think there’s a pretty good shot that Deiter is our starting LG. So how are you digging Loxahatchee?

  49. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

If Gesicki can produce this year, last year’s draft hit the 1-2-3 mark
2017 is still I. The air but it doesn’t look real good unless a couple of guys turn it around (Harris, McMillan and Tankersly) I actually think all those guys have a lot of potential – but Harris’s has been a big let down

2016 is Tunsil, Howard and Drake and that’s pretty damn good

We have good young players on this team from our drafts

I don’t remember being able to say that for a while

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m hoping Tank can come back and play well when he’s healthy. I hope he’s ahead of schedule in his rehab, but logically he’s going to miss at a minimum the first month and a half or more

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

This is a big year for Harris. If he can’t produce in the new defensive scheme there aren’t many more options for him.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think his performance this year is also a big year for our franchise to determine how far along we are

It would be nice to have one good young pass rusher in place

  50. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Harris may be great, he was stuck behind Quinn and wake and it would appear he’s much more suited for a base 3-4 LB than a 4-3 DE, i wouldn’t give up on him yet.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah I agree. I think we’ll use him as a hybrid edge guy both standing and hand in the ground, but not exclusively as a prototype DE because he really isn’t that. In his first two years the previous coaching staff even used him inside on passing downs and I can see the new staff moving him around as well. In the first minicamp the coaches had him doing drills with the DBs to get him more acclimated in coverage.

That’s because for years we have thrown away picks on Players who don’t cut it.
Players like Dion Jordan Jonathan Martin Leonte Carroo Devante Parker Jamil Douglas Billy Turner Dallas Thomas

You only get a shot at two or three guys per year to fill out the 53 man roster with high percentage picks (rounds 1-3) and the dolphins keep fucking up and throwing them away and trading them for players who are mistakes.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

And also because our coaching has not raised their level of play So that everyone says hey that’s a good young players

  53. Tim and Steve,
If we were comparing apples to apples I would tend to agree 100% but we’re not. If we had the same coaching staff we had the past 3 yrs and just came out of this draft with the players we got and the udfa’s we got I’d say, “okay, I could see there being major growing pains because I know this coaching staff isn’t going to put a lot of time into the later rd, udfa guys”.

Plus, the previous coaching staff couldn’t coach their way out of a brown paper bag. However, this is a new coaching staff; not the same one we’ve had in the past. And the major difference is they are ALL on the same page.

Our defense will be completely different this year in terms of scheme. If we were playing Burke’s D there really wouldn’t be much to be optimistic about. Big deal, we got Wilkins in the first. But, against the run we’re going to play more of an attacking style D. If you watched the Pats D, they don’t sit there and wait. They shoot gaps and get into the backfield and disrupt the run play before it even has a chance to start.

We gave up 145 yds per game rushing last year. I can’t see us even being close to that this year.

  54. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

I think there is more talent and more potential on this team than last year’s team. And I don’t see how the coaching and the game calling could be worse than last year. Those two things should add up to more wins than last year.Everyone (the talking heads) is wrapped up in the players Miami let walk, but what did any of those players do for the team last year? Wake – 6 sacks in 14 games. Quinn – 6.5 sacks in 16 games. Branch – 1.5 sacks. James was decent not much of a run blocker, but went where the money was. We’ll see how easy it is to replace him.Mostly I put the blame on poor coaching, poor scheme.

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

talent is mostly equal, parity among teams, the difference is coaching and philosophy, that separates the good teams from the not so good teams.

    • I think true competition is going to go a long way to helping this team be better as well. We’ve signed a lot of free agents in the past that were pretty much penciled in as starters on the o line, d line, at LB, etc and really gave other guys no chance to start or compete for their positions.

We take those guys in camp and put them with the first team offense or defense and put the other guys with the other groups and just forget about them.

Flores said it again in his presser before the rookie camp that he doesn’t care what round a player was drafted in or whether they were drafted, undrafted, tryout, if they can play the way they need them to play and help the team win games they will get the opportunity. He also said you can see that the undrafted guys have a huge chip on their shoulders and know their margin for error is small and he wishes everyone looked at it that way but they don’t.

i’m interested to see who the featured RB is, we all know it won’t be Drake as he can’t run btwn the tackles, i’ve seen enough to know that.

it will either be Ballage or Gaskin,

Ballage may be a good rb but he runs tall in stature making him and easy target. can not eliminate him from that role as of yet due to his limited carries.

there’s a reason why this regime selected Gaskin, he’s small in stature, he’s powerful, looks to be able to get the tough yards.

my money is on Gaskin when the dust settles,

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It is kind of ironic that we got a similar looking player in both looks and style of play.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Lou, last year players weren’t put in a position to succeed, on either side of the ball, often enough. You dont have to win your matchups all the time, but you better bring it, when the game is on the line.

Wake and Quinn will probably get double digit sacks, with Wake being a situational pass rusher.

      • I’d never bet against Cam Wake and he was a great player for us but the only thing that concerns me this year is what our guys do for us and I think our coaching staff is going to give our guys the best opportunity for success on the field this year and we’re going to see that difference.

Like I said before, we gave up 145 yds per game rushing on D last year. I’ll be that figure drops to around 115 this year.

  60. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

I went back and watched more tape on Charles Harris and you can see the talent and motor he has. It looked like he played about 65-70% of snaps with hand on ground and the rest standing. A good portion of his big plays I saw looked like they came when he was standing. I think if he sheds a few pounds and gets in the mid 240’s with this new conditioning program coupled with his quickness off the snap, we will see much improvement and a potential stud OLB. I think he was a little under sized at 250 to be a 4-3 DE and think that is why he struggled against NFL tackles.

    • I agree. I can see him being a big disrupter this year.

    • but I also think there’s other guys who have potential as well like Hendrix, Ledbetter, Elliot an Holmes. I can even see a guy like Hanks being used to rush from time to time.

Of course, like Flores said, there’s a long way to go and these guys need to step onto the practice field first but there’s a lot of potential there with what we’ve got and I don’t think I’ve ever been as excited to see it on the field as I am this year.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah Harris isn’t big enough to be full time DE, he’s more of a 3-4 OLB and it seems we’re going more that way so hopefully the new defense is a better fit for him.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

He should’ve been a 4-3 LB, the last 2 years, he was really out of place at DE. Not sure why they drafted him to put him in that roll. The idiots thought they got a steal. They did, they just didn’t know how to use him.

I’m pretty sure Harris would’ve said the same thing, so why don’t coaches ask the players where they think they fit in?

  61. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The past few coaches we’ve had all had a weird quirk about them, either a phrase they repeated or some face gesture. I haven’t seen anything yet from Flores, but maybe he’s different.

    • what I love about the guy is he gives nothing. he was asked whether they started the installation of the offense or defense yet and what the timeline was for getting it done and he said they did but he’s not giving info on the timeline because he’s “not giving away any trade secrets”.

I hate when a coach gets up in front of the media and spills his guts and none of these guys do that.

  62. Flores is really emphasizing conditioning and I started to think specifically about Parker and how the coaching staff said they had to teach him how to take care of his body when he first came to the team.

I don’t think this staff leaves any of that to chance and if Parker is going to have a breakout year this is going to be it.

I’m not writing anyone off as of now because I think this staff is just going to be the shit with getting these players to be the best version of themselves as players they can be. Well, except for Sterup. lol

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

A bunch of players have said one thing we do know is we’re going to be running a lot. Conditioning is a big deal to Flores. Not that it isn’t with other coaches and teams but some emphasize it more and Flores is one of those.

      • it goes a long way to help reduce injuries. if you’re playing on the o line and you’re tired because your level of conditioning sucks there is a much greater chance you’re going to get injured than if your level of conditioning is higher.

it’s easier to get a knee or ankle twisted or to fall awkwardly.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah when you’re tired and doing something physical the risk of injury goes up.

  63. we get that 31st ranked, 145 rushing yds per game given up on D last year down to 115 per game this year and that’s also going to help from a pass defense point of view too.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I think 145 is just a number, it will be difficult to improve on that, if we’re 2-14, because we’ll get a heavy dose of the run in 4th quarters, when trailing every week.

But, if we’re closer to 500, I think we’ll get to it easy, because we ain’t going to be 500 with a shitty run D.

Both of those scenarios dont really tell the story. We need to be able to hold up against the run and not be pushed around, if that happens the yards won’t matter.

      • I just want to be clear that I’m not saying it’s a matter of getting to a number more than I’m saying I can see us getting to that number because our run D is better this year than it was last year.

it was really depressing watching this team play last year and just getting gashed run play after run play and players just looking at each other like “man, we can’t stop this”.

  64. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m really curious to see how Gase does with the Jets. I think he’s going to be better there. Not great, but better because he doesn’t have to even think about the defense with Gregg Williams there.

  65. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

I am not sure how well record wise we will do this season but I am going to go with the over. To start the season, teams will not really know how to game plan for us (maybe a wash both ways vs Pats). Also, with the first 4 of 5 games in the Miami heat/humidity, I could see a 2-3 or 3-2 start to the season. When I look at our whole schedule, (baring injuries) I can see a very doable 7-9 or 8-8.
The optimistic homer in me says a doable 9-7. lol

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Does that assume at least 2 wins vs jets and bills? I think both of them will hover around 500.

    • well, it’s not just that other teams won’t know how to game plan for us it’s that I remember watching a video of someone within the Pats organization saying they don’t game plan for teams the way the other teams do. They do it differently.

can’t explain it exactly the way he did but, in other words, they’ll look at the way in which another teams D is going to play specifically against them and make their game plan based on that. they don’t look at it from the point of view of trying to exploit specific weaknesses as much as they do the other teams D is going to be expecting us to do this and we’re going to do that instead.

The roster on the official site is kind of messed up. They use G and OG for Guard and T and OT for Tackle so if you want to look at the roster by position it breaks them up. They also list Reshad as a FS and all the others as S. The same with Kiko listed as MLB, some as OLB and all the others as LB.

  72. Rosen had 17 drop backs with 2.5 seconds or less to get the pass away, which led the NFL
Cardinals had the worst OL in the NFL in 2018.

even a veteran qb needs time, a rookie QB is certainly no exception, He needs time to get his passes off too, and might not be as quick mentally to get it away like a seasoned veteran.

not trying to make excuses, but a rookie QB needs a good environment, a good system around him so he has the best chance for success.

there is no question Miami is a better run organization, Cards are comical

Kyler Murray was limping after his first practice with the cards.
he said he had the wrong cleats, and his feet hurt.

the Cardinals have a new QB to ruin his progress now, Rosen got promoted, l

One would think the Cards could hire an equipment manager to put some damn shoes on their number one pick, but thats asking for too much,,,,,

what kind of organization signs their number one pick north of $ 30 million, a QB known for his blazing speed,
    the wrong cleats?
thats the organization Rosen came from, given a better opportunity here should make quite a difference in Rosen,s success IMO

the Cardinals, coming to Comedy central soon

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

      LOL @ Murray’s cleats

The NFLN is now Cardinals/Murray and the Browns central too. It’s so annoying they just repeat the same stuff over and over. They cover like 10 teams tops as if the rest of the league doesn’t exist.

Rosen was in a bad situation in Arizona for sure. Not only were they a bad team, but they fired their OC in-season, replaced him with a first time OC Byron Leftwich, then fired their HC after one year. They were a mess and people are scrutinizing Rosen’s stats as a rookie. LOL

  73. Murray is 5 10 with shoes on, if the kid has to play barefoot, hes only 5 8 and a half, lol

It’s very difficult for rookies to come in and be leaders right out of the gate….especially for interior DL who usually take a few years just to get used to the banging inside. We already have some good veterans who can lead on the defense, so this kid can just come in and play….and not worry about it. If it comes, it comes. He’s got skills. Just make plays. I’d love to hear about some battles between him and Deiter in the PS.

  85. Wilkins will become a leader because of his personality, and of course his play

Wilkins will be one of the most popular players, hes the kind of guy the players will gravitate too , because he is such a inspiration with his attitude and play.

he will make devastating plays for us, gonna be fun, i see him edge rushing sometimes too, he can line up anywhere and be effective.
other defenders have an easy job if big man in the middle is fucking everything up at the point of attack. cornerbacks love a good pass rush!

players will respect him, its tough to not respect a guy that big and imposing, lol

hes well over 300 pounds playing in Miami heat and humidity
that takes a very special human to do that, its much easier for the 200 pound guys flying around the field in oppressive heat than it is for the huge linemen. players know this and will notice his efforts in the heat.

i do believe Wilkins will lose some weight because of it, ,but he will be ok playing 10 pounds lighter,
and he might be even quicker

  86. in high school ball, most OL were around 220, lol

but we had one huge guy on the team that was 325 at 18 years old

he got alot of respect for hanging tough and not giving up even when he was almost ready to drop from heat exhaustion. mad props to the dude.

      • there are so many guys right now it’s going to be interesting to see how similar or how different it is compared to last year in terms of talent on the roster.

when I look at a guy like Hanks I just think that either Allen or Hull could definitely be in trouble.

when I look at a guy like Needham I think that either Tank or Aikens could be in trouble.

there’s a lot of talent on this roster right now so I think there’s some guys who were here last year who could be on the bubble.

There are a lot of options Tim, this is where putting it all together mentally and collectively comes in. I liked our D a lot last year it unraveled some but they were NEVER put in a good situation. If our scoring shows that it has Rosen that will go a long way for the Defense.

  96. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I think Taylor is the more natural player at nose. Not because he’s big, but he’s got more power than Godchaux. We don’t really have a classic 3-4 NT starter on the team. Godchaux is better suited to DE. But, we have 3 guys in Wilkins, Godchaux and Taylor who can or should be able to move all across the defensive front. Godchaux and Wilkins are both best suited to 3 tech. I’d guess Wilkins ends up being RDE and Godchaux will be LDE with Taylor in the middle with a 3 man front. Personally, I think they all fit better in a 4–3.
    ***
I think we have a similar situation at LBer. Kiko is best inside because he gets beat a lot out on the edge. Baker is a pretty good edge LB because he can cover. McMillan is purely an inside guy. Harris? Who knows because none of us know how he’d translate to OLB. But, I assume he’s the guy you use to go from a 3-4 to 4-3 or vice versa.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Disagree. He has really thin legs for a big man. Could he line up at nose here and there, yes, but he’s not a NT. He’s a RDE dammit!!! LOL

I’m not into the “tanking” narrative, so I’m hopeful we can get it done.
