Question for the brain trust. Any of you guys ever had front loading washers and dryers? Thought our old top loading ones were working fine enough, but the better half took the reigns on this one and our two new ones showed up today. She bought ones with all the fancy electronic stuff that looked cool in the metal finish, but they are front loading. I also pointed out smaller and meant to be stacked….. which now means she is having buyer’s remorse and talking about returning.
_________________________________________
Return them quick! i don’t buy any washer or dryer with a computer in them, it’s just something that can go wrong and cost a lot to fix, so much it may be cost effective to replace it.
been there done that!
buy a conventional washer and dryer, you’re much better off.
Stranger – ORob May be stuck in the 80’s, but he is on the right track about computerized appliances. They don’t last as long and are not as reliable as old school appliances. I have a 30+ year old fridge in my garage that has outlived 4 or 5 high end new fridges.
The other three by to remember is that we’re guys. As long as an appliance still more or less turns on when we hit the on button we think they’re fine.
Thanks Phelon and ORob — but having one without the fancy computer stuff don’t think a possibility. Am sure the dryer can be set to turn on at 3AM and have the clothes folded the next morning though. Right now the wifey is hell bent on returning though. Cause of anything I said?…. nope. One of her friend’s mothers said front loading washers have to be wiped down after each use or they get mold and she is sure I won’t do that (and she’s at least right on that part).
She’s scares the heck out of me, but least one stance I took was if you want to return you are the one who will be doing it.
Thanks Krishna — some real awesome advice, but is what is at this point. And I got hit with “why didn’t you help me before” when only did what was told. But hey — she’s a whole lot better looking and nicer than me. 🙂
We’ve had ours since 2014. The only issue (knock on wood) has been cleaning out the lint buildup under lint filter after 4 years on the dryer. Maintenance?
Phelon makes Margaritas in the washing machine? jeez now THAT’s a party animal.
OK juice of 3 dozen limes, 2 gallons of tequila, half a gallon of blood orange liqueur, half a gallon of Cointreau, half a gallon of Grand Marnier, half a gallon of Triple Sec, and a lime slice to garnish …
Tommy Vigorito.
Stanger,
The front loading washer is very efficient, but can develop mold if you leave the door closed when not in use. I run a cleaner tab in ours about once every six months and have not had a problem with my 10+ y/o unit (knock on wood).
Thanks Try — have a feeling my new front loading pair are dead appliances walking, but btwn your insight and Pelon’s can be storage space below least have a put the best face on it if the return doesn’t happen.
That pic of Webb engaged with Bruce Smith is awesome. How many times did that happen? You can see how much larger Webb was, he almost engulfs Smith, but Smith was so strong and so damn quick!
Mike I think you nailed it with the guys you posted pictures of.
Bruce Hardy was pretty good.
Hugh Green was good but never became what we may have anticipated
Faud Reveiz, a fellow woodworker (he even had a handyman type show a while back), was always fun to watch.
Tony Nathan was good too, he was a nice player for us.
Mike E,
Tommy V. was said in jest. When did Camarillo play?
Marino obviously it’s the best of the 80’s. Loved Strock, Nat Moore, Tony Nathan, Duriel Harris, Webb, Stephenson, Blackwood Bros.. too many to name.
a buddy of mine lives in S FL, a real city boy, his GF owns this 400 acre farm in punta gorda with her ex.
So he goes there and as he’s going in the property he takes a pic sends it to me and says look we have a cow, unfortunately the pic was that of a Bull!
i told him “very nice, you should try to milk that cow”
Man how horrible is that. And not like wouldn’t be for anyone, but even more so when want to be an NFL player. Like a concert pianist who can no longer use one hand.
Fav Fins player from the ’80’s???
The Greatest Quarterback of all time.

WIFE SAYS “Time to walk the dogs. Better hurry cuz it’s going to rain.” We get about a quarter of a mile down the street and BOOOOOM! Me & dogs get back home just as the rain cuts loose. Ah. my good luck continues!!! Barely got wet.

Today, me and my lady slept in until 7:30, a rare happening in our house. Slowly, I made us breakfast before scanning the paper. Then it’s off to Barnes and Noble to buy more reading material. I settled on an older John Grisham novel, THE CLIENT, which some have rated his best novel ever. Mrs. OD decides to read Grisham’s THE RACKETEER, which I just finished and thoroughly enjoyed. After we destroyed two of Barnes & Noble’s amazing deserts, we headed home for a traditional 4th of July late lunch of hotdogs, chips, and our favorite beverages. Ah, what a GREAT DAY to be an American!! The only drawback was my wife’s continued hobbling with the aid of her cane. Soon, we’ll have the results of her spinal MRI, for which she had to be sedated due to pain. She wants to have whatever procedures are necessary to get her back to somewhat pain free walking.

As we continue to celebrate this day, we should all remember the sacrifices made by those who went before us. Somewhere. Washington, Adama, Jefferson and Madison are smiling. ——-

They have plenty to smile about, as do all those who proudly served this country!!
Where was the rest of the defense? Getting washed out of the play to rely on a corner to make the tackle. Riggins was one of the biggest, most talented and physical RBs of that era. McNeil gets the blame but he was not the main problem on that play. That was a sign of bad things to come for the Dolphins defense for the next decade or so.
Wife just called and told me helicopters are dropping water on a brush fire not far from us so the fires are at it as well. Other than that we are doing good. You ?
Doggie : we doing well. Wife is on a food plan and exercise Boot camp program for last 5 weeks. She has 1 week left and we head to NOLA in 2 weeks .. need to get away from work .. stay safe out there man hopefully the tremors are done cause I know ya got a while left of fire season .. BTW hope ya still love ya .. we booked into Margaritaville for the Fest 🙃

my nephew, a great kid, he gets in my truck and the seat belt alarm goes off, he works on cars so he told me that he wants to disconnect my seat belt alarm.
told him i want that alarm and that saying that was stupid!
just bought all new appliances for another home i own,all whirlpool, fridge 25 cu ft french door, range…dishwasher…micro over stove.. home depot 4th sale, $2700 for the package, of course i also bought the 5 year replacement warranty, i think the fridge has a computer.
LMAO, a tablet built into the fucking fridge door? For what purpose? So you can sit down at the fridge and continuously eat without ever having to log out? I’m curious how they market that.
Kong – I’m pretty sure it’s a Samsung fridge, and it has a Galaxy Tab built in that’s also removable. It can show you what’s inside the fridge and I would imagine it’s accessible from the outside. Say you’re food shopping and you ween’t sure whether you needed milk, you could “look” in the fridge from your cell. It’s pretty crazy, but in some cases it could be helpful. Also on hot days you can crawl into your refrigerator and surf the web, but the tablet can only withstand temps down to 37 degrees so you can’t crawl into the freezer.
My take on seat belts is its a good thing to use them, but i do not see the point in having laws that penalize you for what should be a choice. Its one of the only laws you have where its the case that you get a ticket for not doing something thats for your own protection. You also have to think about the fact that a person that isnt wearing it, isnt ticketed upon an event where that infraction was the cause of anything additional, it is a fine specifically to allow the police to tack on an additional fine. I get its purpose, i dont deny the importance of wearing a seat belt, but i cannot fathom how that law is still in the books. You want more people to use seat belts, design cars to not start if they aren’t engaged, make some other modification like those cars that the seat belt auto slides into place when the vehicle is cranked, there re a ton of better ways to address the problem without a bullshit fine.
I think it goes beyond just your own protection. If yoo’re th driver and your passenger is belted, you could go flying into your passenger and kill them if you’re not belted. You become a dangerous missile to even people outside the vehicle during a crash. It’s definitely not just your own protection
The new thing in fridges is the knock technology which basically activates a digitized glass on the front of the fridge and shows you whats inside without opening it. You have grocery apps, etc and its hooked into your wifi so you can load apps on your Phone that can access it. The inventory system tells you what ya have so that when your shopping you can replenish.
Fridges arent the only items with this. Most appliances are becoming smart appliances with built in things for entertainment. Hell havent ya seen the gas stations with the tablets built into the pumps where you can watch a little bit of TV while you pump your gas?
LMAO, a tablet built into the fucking fridge door? For what purpose? So you can sit down at the fridge and continuously eat without ever having to log out? I’m curious how they market that.
—————————————————-
pretty much just as you described it. Basically you dont have to disconnect while your doing other things like cleaning the kitchen, etc.
LOL, I am so out of touch with the tech world. I have the ability to use new tech, I just don’t see the point most of the time.
As a high functioning human being I have a built in ability to open the fridge door to see what is in the damn thing. I mean I guess I kind of see how if I’m at the store and I’m not sure if I need eggs it might be useful to place a call to my refrigerator, but I guess I just believe in being a competent planner and making a flipping grocery list, lol.
Its basically an electronic list you make at the fridge in an app vs a writing it down on paper. To me thats one of the more useful tools in that technology, but again, you can just as easily do it on your phone standing at the fridge too. Its a fancy techie grab when it comes down to it.
I’ve never understood seatbelt laws for adults either D. Or motorcycle helmet laws. It’s Darwinism IMO. If you don’t have the brains to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle, then don’t be surprised when you have those same limited brains spread across the road. I think there should be requirements for parents to secure their kids though.
I agree, and im glad that those laws are outside normal seat belt laws and more severe. Kids cant protect themselves so you are affecting an other’s safety in that case.
Seat belt probably saved my 19-year-old life once. Fell asleep at the wheel and hit the biggest Oak Tree on the road straight on at like 45 mph. Front left half of the front merged with the back half in a split second. So yeah wear mine and cool with a law that requires as well.
YOUNG STANGER: In 1970 I wanted to buy the first year Datsun 240-Z to toodle around the FAU campus. But, having just received a bachelor’s in Political Science, I decided to use MY BRAIN and buy a Datsun station wagon because I WAS CONVINCED Richard Nixon was LYING when he said he had a “secret plan for peace” in Vietnam. I believed I almost certainly would get drafted. THUS, a practical car (such as the station wagon) could hold all of my worldly possessions as I headed of to my first state side assignment. Well he WAS lying and I DID GET DRAFTED. After basic training I was assigned to the Army’s X-Ray tech school in San Antonio. ALL of my worldly goods went with me to Texas and the rest was history.
——-
Forrtunately I had the sense to BUY a set of seat belts for the front seat. They raised the price of this car from $1900 to $2100 brand new. A few weeks after my discharge, my 2-year old Datsun was virtually totalled by a long Winn-Dixie transport trailer hauled by a new driver his first day on the job. He missed his turn, cut across two lanes. The impactt peeled back the roof of my wagon but I was kept in my seat by these LIFE SAVING belts. A few years later the federal government mandated belts in all new cars. And I’ve NEVER AGAIN been in a vehicle where the seatbelts came into use —lucky for me. BUT I have not, and WILL NOT, travel 6 inches without my seat belt on. I HAVE, however, X-rayed and done CT scans on those who believed seat belts were a crummy idea. This is NOT the right way to thin out those with bad judgment, or , maybe, it is??
Anyway, I wonder how much higher my insurance premiums would be if all these idiots could still drive legally without belts?? An insurance guy etimated that current premiums would be 20-40 per cent higher if belt use was still optional today.
OD — my wife likes to go without a seat belt and insist she does with a “hey can get pulled over” comment. Still not sold on the back seat ones (no through the windshield involved)….. but that might be the smart move too.
OD, not really saying Nixon lied or didn’t lie, we all know politicians lie often. But I’m not sure that he can be held accountable for an idea of a secret plan for peace and it didn’t happen. It’s hard to get out of a war. The war was already going on for 15 years.
My stepdad was drafted in 1965 the year I was born which I always found interesting. Who knew that he’d become a part of my life 10 years later. He’s a very big man and he was a .50 caliber machine gun guy. He saw quite a bit of action and doesn’t really like to get into many details other than telling me lots of horrible things happened that you’ll never want to go through.
I refuse to wear a seatbelt.. I agree with the “it’s a choice”.. grew up with it not being a law , and riding in backs of open 1/2 tons .. I DID however not move the vehicle until Kids were buckled in until they became of age .. at which point they were seldom in my vehicles.. I get that it COULD save yer life, but I also believe when my # is up , it’s up..
As for the Appliance discussion.. I don’t trust front load washers to not leak , and I like sturdy , untechy for most appliances. Like was said above, less tech , less stuff to go wrong, especially for appliance that work fine without tech ..
First!
Naples, every time I riminess with you, I end up missing Charleston. LOL
You got my two faves in the pics — John Offerdahl (Zach 1.0) and Reggie Roby (Fields 1.0).
I’m surprised Offerdahl precedes Roby on your list. 🙂

Don’t listen to ORob. He still believes in “power” backs…stuck in the 80’s….
it’s a toss up between John Bosa and Jackie shipp
Also Eric Kumerow, didn’t he make the pro bowl?
No he had a very short and lackluster career.
I just read an article, 9 QBs that should improve this year. Josh Rosen should benefit from a strong OL and new coaching staff. WTF?
He has a new coaching staff and Arizona’s line may have been the only line worse than Miami’s last year.
Stranger – ORob May be stuck in the 80’s, but he is on the right track about computerized appliances. They don’t last as long and are not as reliable as old school appliances. I have a 30+ year old fridge in my garage that has outlived 4 or 5 high end new fridges.

Thing to remember… maybe the monster margarita was not the way to go
I bet you pay a lot more to run the old one. We had an old one at work, as soon as we moved it to a different location it quit working.
But I hear ya on the old ones.
Mike-arita
That’s about the right size
The next bowl you see will be the porcelain goddess!
I heard that the front load washers develop mold inside somewhere around the door.
Just put that out below before reading that. And my lovely has mild OCD….. deal breaker.
Thanks Phelon and ORob — but having one without the fancy computer stuff don’t think a possibility. Am sure the dryer can be set to turn on at 3AM and have the clothes folded the next morning though. Thanks Krishna — some real awesome advice, but is what is at this point. And I got hit with “why didn’t you help me before” when only did what was told. But hey — she’s a whole lot better looking and nicer than me. 🙂

Steve’s right. New appliances are far more energy efficient, but like anything that is more tech advanced, it’s more prone to breaking down
Phelon makes Margaritas in the washing machine? jeez now THAT’s a party animal.
OK juice of 3 dozen limes, 2 gallons of tequila, half a gallon of blood orange liqueur, half a gallon of Cointreau, half a gallon of Grand Marnier, half a gallon of Triple Sec, and a lime slice to garnish …

Yep…you have to leave the door ajar to let it dry…it’s made to keep water/moisture in when in use.
Marino has to be #1 but there are a few on the article list that were fun to watch.
That pic of Webb engaged with Bruce Smith is awesome. How many times did that happen? You can see how much larger Webb was, he almost engulfs Smith, but Smith was so strong and so damn quick!
They had classic battles.
Yeah, lots of wins and losses on both sides but most people only remember the Webb losses and Smith victories.
Tom Vigorito eh? I liked the Blackwood Bros too, but they didn’t make the cut compared to the udder guys.
Wasn’t Richmond webb in the 90s?
Dan Marino for sure. Sure wish he had a defense.
Dwight Stephenson was favorite ol.
Yes he was, drafted in 1990. LOL
Oops, I thought he (Webb) was with Marino all along. Silly me
Along with Keith Sims at guard for 90s as favorite ol.
Jon Giesler was Marino’s LT for his best years.
I loved Don Strock, especially when he was part of the WoodStrock combo
How about Yatil Green!
Jared Lorenzen dead at 38 yrs old
Bob Kuechenberg played until ‘83, he spent ‘84 on injured reserve.
Kooch!!!!!
Kooch did obviously make the last article. Webb will be lucky enough to make 2. 🙂
Sad – RIP Jared
Yeah that’s so young
Crash was the MAN!!!!!!!
Stamger
got rid of the front load washer! It kept coming up with a ghost error code!
But the dryer works great!
Mike E,
Tommy V. was said in jest. When did Camarillo play?
Marino obviously it’s the best of the 80’s. Loved Strock, Nat Moore, Tony Nathan, Duriel Harris, Webb, Stephenson, Blackwood Bros.. too many to name.
The big Camarillo cAtch saved the 2007 season
Pretty recent in the grand scheme of things
I think he played until about 2009
Camarillo will always be one of the all-time great Dolphins heroes in my book because of that one single play that saved us from an 0-16 season.
As for the 80’s – Marino of course. Loved the Marks Brothers and Roby too, just to throw some additional love out there.
It has to be Marino for the 90’s as well.
Considering Marino was 1-1 with a 62-7 loss on his record for the 2000’s, I’ll likely select a different player for that decade.
a buddy of mine lives in S FL, a real city boy, his GF owns this 400 acre farm in punta gorda with her ex.

Sad to hear about Norton I think he had a real shit to make the team and now he is going to have a real long road just to get back to a normal life

sad news about Norton, i wonder if he was wearing his seat belt, sounds like he got ejected.

it will stop you from being ejected in an accident, that’s where most deaths occur.

“…easily do it on your phone…”
I’m a few centuries behind that. I’m a slate tablet and chalk kind of guy, lol.
Amputated
Sorry Kendrick
I’ve never understood seatbelt laws for adults either D. Or motorcycle helmet laws. It’s Darwinism IMO. If you don’t have the brains to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle, then don’t be surprised when you have those same limited brains spread across the road. I think there should be requirements for parents to secure their kids though.
I agree, and im glad that those laws are outside normal seat belt laws and more severe. Kids cant protect themselves so you are affecting an other’s safety in that case.

Just cleaning up the messes the meth addicts make.
What’s worse?
A. That the couple watched part of it during their breakfast
B. That the 🐊 swarmed
C. That dead bodies are readily available
ORob, I believe Norton was trapped in the car from what I read.
And they amputated at the scene to free him from the wreck. Can’t even start to imagine that. Hoping they at least had a way to knock him out.
Yeah that’s brutal. I didn’t know they could do that on the scene. Maybe it was the only way or it was almost gone already. Feel so bad for the guy.

OD wins the seat belt convo with the 20-40% insurance savings comment 😁
OD always wins. No getting around it.
Wait what? He’s been complaining about the Dolphins not winning for years. LOL
They forgot an ‘h’, Tim.
Phish, now you’ve done it! LOL
It was low hanging fruit!
LOL
Best wishes to Tedy Bruschi – Sounds like he should be good though because they caught it early enough. That means everything,
Let’s face it
