Miami Dolphins trade LT Laremy Tunsil and WR Kenny Stills to Texans!

OK, this is a shocker, no two ways about it! In addition to trading away our cornerstone LT, we also traded away controversial WR Kenny Stills (BUH-bye) and future draft picks, a 2020 4th RD pick and a 2021 6th RD pick. What do we get in return for all of this??? TWO first RD picks, a 2020 1st RD and a 2021 1st RD pick and 2021 2nd RD pick as well. and two players, special teamer DB Johnson Bademosi and OT Julie’n Davenport.

I don’t even know how to digest all this to be honest. Things look great for the future, although now we have to find a legitimate LT which will probably require a high pick. I realize we have now have 2 first RD picks in both next year’s draft and also in 2021, but now the rebuild seems to be full on, and it’s going to require some patience here. While the future looks promising, I have my doubts about how competitive our team will be with a poor offensive line.

I understand well that no player is “untradeable”. There is a value for everything, and GM Chris Grier felt he got more value than he could turn down for his best OL and really the cornerstone of our offensive line, then he did the right thing. Time will tell, because Laremy Tunsil is a great tackle, he was an excellent pass protector as well as a demon in the run game. Kenny Stills was a deep threat WR who has been making big plays for us since he got here, but in limited quantities. He probably should have been more during his tenure here, and his decision to speak up against Dolphins owner Steve Ross probably led to him being a part of this trade as well..

What I guess we all have to realize is that this year is definitely compromised. I would say we all had some doubts about our O-line with Laremy Tunsil, so those doubts just intensified w/o him. Is Zach Sterup our LT? Do our QB’s routinely get “Julienned” if newly acquired OT Julie’n Davenport is playing LT? Do we pick up another LT off the cut scrap heap? LG Michael Deiter’s job just got a whole lot more difficult, wouldn’t you think?

Next year’s draft should be exciting for us, but watching this season, at least for me at this moment, looks to be a scary prospect. I think we’re putting an inferior product on the field on offense, with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick starting behind what appears to be a very shaky O-line. We heard rumors about a locker room revolt if Laremy Tunsil was traded, I suppose we’ll see if that’s true or not. I hope it’s not, because things may tough enough for this team this season without that.

no doubt drake has talent, he has the speed of a wr, maybe behind the FB and a good blocking scheme he can get the 4yds per carry and break loose for big gains but so far he’s been stuffed at the LOS most of the time putting us in long down and distance on 2nd down too much for my liking.

Drakes best asset is a wheel route against a LBer.

  2. steveccnv says:

I want to see Drake make the most of the passes that go his way.

I expect the kitchen sink to be thrown at the Ravens on both sides of the ball. We aren’t going to be lined up in a 4-3 vanilla Wanny D and say beat us if you can.

On O we’ll be using max protect, if we can’t stop the rush, screens, draws, quick passes, and a mixture of OL moving around, including uneven fronts.

If you’re a big fan of not watching the ball, this game may be your SB.

  3. ocalarob says:

you have to have a productive running game to have success, you have to keep Ds honest, Forget the passing game to Drake, he will have to get the tough yards up the middle if he’s the bell cow.
and so far he hasn’t shown he can do that.

    • steveccnv says:

That would be ideal, if Drake could get the tough yards inside, but he really has to just get carries inside, to keep the D honest, so he doesn’t become a 1 trick pony.

      • ocalarob says:

he has to put us in a manageable down and distance on 2nd down, preferably 2nd and 6 or less, if we are in 2nd and 8 or 9 we become very predictable which gives the advantage to the opposing D.

  4. ocalarob says:

if we can keep this game close the 4th qtr will be ours!

  5. steveccnv says:

The Cheats and Colts really didn’t have great running teams all those years, what they had was a huge passing threat, that’s why they ran the ball so effectively.

We obviously won’t have that, but what we have to do is scheme to run, use odd man fronts, mis-direction, run when they expect pass…

    • ocalarob says:

NE was #5 in total rushing, the rams #3, no surprise they played each other in the SB last year.

      • steveccnv says:

That’s correct, but when you carry a lead a lot lot those teams did you can run the ball in the 4th. They didn’t win because they ran the ball, but it certainly helped.

I think we’d all like to see us run the ball 85% of the time on 1st down and get no less than 4 yards on each carry, then have 2 downs to pass for a 1st, with 6 or less yards to go.

  6. steveccnv says:

We somehow blocked Mack last year, we’ll find a way to stop the Ravens from throwing the OL around.

  7. steveccnv says:

John Jenkins all 6’4″ and 359 lbs of him is starting week 1. I’ve been saying all along 3-4.

What I really meant was we won’t be seeing many 4 man fronts.

  8. steveccnv says:

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, one anonymous player on the Dolphins said Alonso was “scolded repeatedly in the May/June practices for freelancing or not doing things how the coaches wanted.”

Vince Biegel, is an intriguing youngster who played a role with the Wisconsin Badgers that is fairly similar to a role that exists in Flores’ defense on the edge — meaning he may well end up being a scheme fit and a solid contributor for the Dolphins.

Wow! Who knew we could dump a contract of a free landing vet, and get in return a good fit young cheap player.

    • steveccnv says:

But all we really hear from the U75 crowd is how we’re tanking.

If you have 10 guys doing their job, staying in their lanes, and one idiot leaving his man to try and make a play (against the design of the D), and the ball is thrown to said man’s cover, does it really matter if you have 3 pro bowlers on the field?

What I’m getting at is, what’s the point of having 3 great defenders on the field, when everyone isn’t on the same page. You have to be good collectively as a team, that’s what Flores is trying to breed.

All of these moves say more about player culture and system fit, along with TNT, then tanking.

Suh the freelancer gone, Kiko the freelancer gone. It’s not a coincidence they’ve moved around.

  9. steveccnv says:

Why do the Pat’s win so much? Because they don’t beat themselves.

  13. sb7mvp says:

I hope snoopy is better than kiko.

  14. Mike E. says:

The Ravens WR’s don’t scare me, we better be prepared to contain Lamar Jackson and limit Mark Ingram.

    • twicethethe says:

With the Ravens unveiling a new scheme for offense and Miami doing the same for defense, it may well be the wild west out there. But definitely agreed the primary focus needs to be limiting how much the defense is gashed on running plays.

      • stangerx says:

Think that is going to be the main worry of this team no matter who we play, but especially when Jackson is out there.

  15. D says:

Alabama has the 3 highest rated OLB/ILB/DE hybrid LB’s in the country right now….. 1, 2 and 3. Jesus that defense churns out some fucking talent. They have the top QB and top WR prospect too. Both DT’s are in the top 5. Both CB’s are in the top 3. Both safeties in the top 4.

Might not be sure who our 1st pick will be, but im feeling pretty confident on which school they will be from lol.

  16. steveccnv says:

The 1st pick in 2020 should be on the OL, and since we don’t seem to value them, I’d say either trade out or take a DE, but no telling how important that position is either, so maybe a hybrid type OLB.

  17. steveccnv says:

Fake news MSN says we have a shaky QB situation. I think we have the best situation since Marino.

    • Rockphin says:

are you for real of Joshing us?

    • Mike E. says:

It’s not saying much, but having Chad Pennington here trumps Fitz and Rosen, especially since Fitz is the starter.

      • steveccnv says:

I thought of him after I posted, but he took us as far as he could, with that arm.

I seriously love our QB situation. Usually having 2 guys means you have none, but I think they compliment each other well.

  18. Rockphin says:

    steveccnv says:

The 1st pick in 2020 should be on the OL….

First pick should and will be a QB. (not necessarily Tua and imo hopefully not)
THEN the 2nd 1st round pick can be a linemen if they see the value. Or either two of the 2nd round picks or either or both of the third round picks

  19. wyoming85 says:

  20. Rockphin says:

For the pre-season games the Dolphins showed the depth chart (Pretty much the same chart every even when certain players didn’t actually start where they were listed) as a 4-3 depth chart showing three starting LB’s and 4 starting D line. Now they have switched it up showing a base 3-4 with Davon Godchaux, John Jenkins and first-round pick Christian Wilkins as the listed starters on the defensive line and a starting linebacker corps of Jerome Baker, Raekwon McMillan, Charles Harris and Sam Eguavoen.

I know it doesn’t matter because we will be in nickle or dime or some other formation most of the time, but what is the change up about?

    • stangerx says:

I think you hit it with it just doesn’t matter and not just cause we will be in nickle and dime. This new D can’t be pegged as this or that. Not that I’m good at such but I was watching the preseason games going WTF? And that was vanilla.

      • steveccnv says:

This is something Tim says all the time and I don’t get that logic of we’re going to be in the nickel or dime most of the time…

The nickel is 5 dbs the dime is 6, notice this relates to dbs or back end. What does nickel or dime have to do with the DL?

  21. CavalierKong says:

The long cold winter is over. Packers/Bears should be a fun opening game.

    • CavalierKong says:

Wow, I saw him put out a twitter rant blasting the Raiders for having the temerity for fining him (like you would anyone else) for missing practice. Now this. This is male soap opera drama at its finest, lol.

    • stangerx says:

Tells you how close reports can be wrong. Told you guys before that my chiro said he was her favorite of all the NFL players she’s worked with. Gotta think something is wrong.

      • CavalierKong says:

I think he’s a giant baby who was coddled by the Steelers. When they stopped coddling him he went off. The Raiders are trying to treat him like other players, and he’s having trouble adjusting. There is a video of him catching a ball and throwing it against a fence at yesterday’s practice, and he reportedly was taking plays off and yelled at a conditioning coach. All signs of a child throwing a temper tantrum.

      • stangerx says:

Who knows exactly why, but this is a guy who was a low round draft choice and became elite. That’s the hard knocks gritty worker thing. It’s just strange now.

    • Rockphin says:

what an unmitigated assclown AB is! Let me freeze my feet and almost derail my season. Let me skip meetings and practices, who needs them? I want to play with my OLD helmet, I don’t care if it isn’t approved, I will make a fuss unless I can. Let me post the fine letter from my team’s GM on social media after being fined for missing practice.
Let me threaten and cuss at my GM in front of other team members.

Why don’t you just retire from football you stupid illiterate punk.

  22. Mike E. says:

The article said they tried first being really nice to him, then good cop bad cop, and now this. I think they’re tired of his crap.

  23. Mike E. says:

Why would we draft a LT in the first RD when we can put JAG there? I thought that’s the Patriot way

    • steveccnv says:

That’s basically what I said, we should take OL, but I dont think they value it.

    • The Flying Pig says:

I honestly don’t think we have to draft a LT right away
But if we have 4 first rounders in the next 2 years
It makes sense that one of them should be a LT
It also makes sense to draft a pass rusher and a QB

We have to see how the draft falls

Maybe we draft a whole new OL within the first 2 rounds over the next couple of years

  24. Rockphin says:

The nickel is 5 dbs the dime is 6, notice this relates to dbs or back end. What does nickel or dime have to do with the DL?
Who comes off the field when the extra DB comes on? When the 2nd extra DB comes on? the LB’s that’s who (typically, unless you have really fast good coverage LB’s)

that is why. You can’t have a 3-4 nickel. You can still have three down linemen, but not 4 LB’s

    • steveccnv says:

You were comparing the 3-4 to the 4-3 saying, then said it doesn’t matter, because we’ll be in nickel or dime most of the time.

It does matter, because we only have 6 DL on the team. What doesn’t matter is whether we’re in the nickel or dime, we’ll still have the base D amount of DL on the field.

  25. steveccnv says:

We were talking about AB at work, the thing we couldn’t get past was maybe its CTE, after the Burfect hit he hasn’t been the same.

    • steveccnv says:

Maybe one of you guys with more knowledge of CTE can chime in?

    • The Flying Pig says:

He’s a nutcase all of the sudden

    • CavalierKong says:

It’s possible, but it always seems to be the same story with these superstar diva WRs though. At some point the diva becomes too big for the player and they go off the rails. TO, Johnson, Burress, Marshall just to name a few off the top of my head.

    • CavalierKong says:

Yeah, I’m seeing articles speculating he might have CTE going all the way back to February.

      • steveccnv says:

I haven’t seen any, just heard about the CTE speculation from a guy at work.

Was watching an Edelman interview yesterday and when asked about getting clocked in the SB, Seattle, he just shrugged it off. I think he’s in denial too.

  26. Mike E. says:

Steve – No way for us fans to tell. We’ve seen things like this play out time after time. Could it always be CTE or is it more likely that there are just some players that think that they’re bigger than the game? I don’t know.

  27. The Flying Pig says:

The best part about the AB story is that Vontaze Burfict needed to restrain him

When you rely on burfict to be the voice of reason, you lost…

  28. CavalierKong says:

Brown has always been a character, he just kept it under control. There was a great article by ESPN or the undefeated or someone on him a year or two ago that delves into some of the issues he’s always had. It’s the same story it always is for these diva types. It’s the craving for attention that makes them divas to begin with, then when you add stardom to it, and people telling them how they are the best, how can that creature not grow to be bigger than the player, bigger than the team, etc.

This crap with Brown really did spiral fast from the end of last year through today, so maybe this is different, but it’s hard not to just see this as just another superstar who is just doing what he do -being the center of the universe.

  32. D says:

If we do feel QB is the direction they want to go when we draft. I really wouldnt mind seeing them draft like this. OT, QB, OG, and going UGA UGA UGA. Thomas, then Fromm, then Kindly. That UGA OL looked about as good as you can against Vandy, whose defense is no slouch, they just have no talent on offense. If Tua is the hype and Herbert is right behind him, we could probably get Fromm with the second first. We probably wont get Thomas with the second one. Alabama’s hybrid players on defense would be perfect fits for our multiples defense.

  33. steveccnv says:

Just read that AB posted the BS about the helmet was just to secure an endorsement deal.

  34. ocalarob says:

I think AB and Mayock should concupiscent, after all AB may be callipygian , maybe they should just be more conviviality and coruscant to each other…..what do you think?

  38. CavalierKong says:

If the Raiders release Brown, he’d better not end up on the f*ing Pets.

    • The Flying Pig says:

You know that’s what will happen

    • stangerx says:

They just signed him. But if there is a problem a discount for sure would be in play.

      • CavalierKong says:

Yeah, we all know they just signed him, lol. Reports are they are suspending him, and may release him. His contract is written so the Raiders can release him right now and not have ot pay out any of the guaranteed money, plus they can recoup his signing bonus. So if they are tired of him already, now is the time they can cut bait and not be paying for years to come.

If they cut him, he’ll definitely sign somewhere for a lot less. It’ll be the perfect storm for the Patriots to swoop in and get a stud WR for pennies.

I think what will happen is Brown will realize he’s about to lose 30 million guaranteed, and he’ll be contrite and fool the Raiders into keeping him, then once his money is secure, he’ll continue to be a headache, lol.

Antonio Brown may end up getting no payment at all from the Raiders

      • CavalierKong says:

He didn’t even get his signing bonus. He failed to meet the criteria, smh.
        #dumpsterfire

      • stangerx says:

Cav — you got me to read the article. Never heard of a contract like that before. Thinking there were worries about him before he signed.

    • steveccnv says:

That was part of the master plan. Belicheat told AB, if you really are serious about winning a title, cause havoc all summer, then after cut you we’ll sign you.

  39. BailBondMike says:

That U75 article doesn’t take into account we’ll be doing whatever it takes to slow down the passrush

I’ll like every other team in the league doesn’t do whatever it takes? Please TNT is bullshit. No actually it’s 100% true but it’s an incomplete statement. It takes no talent to do things right But all things being equal the side with more talent is going to win

It’s not like the other team isn’t going to be doing everything it takes to make sure the pass rush does get there and go by the way their players are better

I have enjoyed the total coolness of Christian Wilkins thus far, the humor, the witty wisdom, the plus good guy, ultimate teammate, but I have been an “every single minute” fan of his games at my alma mater for a long time, and let me tell you what makes all that “jolly good fellow” stuff work is that Christian can put on a game face as hard and tough and focused and relentless as anybody.

And we’re not talking he did that on an ok team on a middling level; we’re talking about a player who led a team at the highest level of college football, the only team that could take titles away from Satan.

  52. naplesfan2010 says:

The addition of Jenkins, even at this late moment, is a huge upgrade, because playing alongside a big NT is what Wilkins did at Clemson, instead of having to be that guy himself, which is what they did to him too much in preseason. He can take on triple teams, and he is brave enough to do it, but he is much more valuable when he is freer to hunt.

We need a pass rusher though

Toba, I think we’re going to see LBs with Baker leading the way and DBs blitzing as part of what we do. They”re going to come from all different formations. We’ve already seen it in the PS. But you still have to play solid mano-a-mano football to be good.

    • manitobafinfan says:

I agree 100%, and believe we have the personnel and finally a real coach to make it happen..

      • Tim Knight says:

What I like about Flores is he’s coaching the entire team, not acting like a specialist. He hired Graham and O’Shea for that. He coaches the entire roster and oversees the mentality of the team. He’s more like what Dan Campbell would have been. It’s not my offense or defense, it’s my team.

    • steveccnv says:

Where do you think the sacks usually come from in a 3-4?

We have 6 DL and 8 LBs.

      • Tim Knight says:

        I’m aware. LOL

But 3-4 base won’t be a majority defense. Every team lines up their best talent that gives them the best chance to succeed. That’s what multiple is all about. Strict formations is a thing of the past. Think we did too much of that last year. We were too vanilla.

      • steveccnv says:

I’m not talking about the LBs, just how many lineman are in. We can be nickel, dime or whatever.

I’ve been saying since March we’ll be using 3 DL, so the pressure and sacks will come from the LBs, and we real don’t need a stud DE.

When M13 told me that Flores confronted Stills about going to him first before going public about his dissatisfaction with the owner Ross and his Trump fundraiser, then Flores starting practice with multiple Jay-Z tunes, the writing was on the wall. LOL

This is how we do things here. If that’s not your thing you’re gone. That’s the Pats model. That’s how Flores has been groomed.

Both of these offenses are killing themselves. They both just look bad.

  79. Tim Knight says:

Steve, we might see 2 DL or just 1 and 4 or 5 LBs at times. LOL

It all depends on game situation.

    • steveccnv says:

You’re killin me. The point was we don’t really need some great sack master DE, and we aren’t thin there. If we use 0, 1, 2 or 3 DL, then the sacks and plays will be made by the LBs and DBs, where we have skill.

All we heard from U75 was how we were in dire need at DE.

    No catch

  81. manitobafinfan says:

Nice stat line for Robinson… hope his former teammate Hurns has that kinda game left in him ..

    • steveccnv says:

Yeah, I was glad we kept him.

      • manitobafinfan says:

I was actually surprised him over Ford.. he has had some good seasons, and can replace Parker’s size if he does his usual regular season disappearing act… or like Naples said, he gets a case of dandruff and can’t play lmao. Dunno why i still find that hilarious

  82. Tim Knight says:

I enjoyed a very good defensive game. No the offenses were not good but that’s because the defenses were. LOL

I’ll take a game like this against the Ravens with a chance to tie or win it with a possession. It creates drama. 🙂

  83. manitobafinfan says:

Nice to have football back 👍👍 , Bring on Sunday !!

I’m thinking Piggs would have preferred 30 points from Rodgers alone. First week you never know what you’re gonna get though

The NFL is like a box of chocolates?

      • Mike E. says:

Stale chocolates at best. Seems like teams aren’t ready to go early on. I do remember saying that before, that teams will start slow because of how they’re conducting themselves in the preseason. If your best players don’t play, sure they they’ll be healthy, but they also won’t be ready to play either.

  85. son of a son of a shula says:

Based on what I saw last night we might win the Super Bowl.

Every D line is going to look like the Bear’s line when they line up against Miami this year. NO SOUP (erbowl) FOR YOU!

    Howie

Just saw that your comments got caught up pal, I just approved them. You have not been replaced! Hopefully you see this and come on back!

Good to see ya, thought you left us . . .

  87. ocalarob says:

hey, at least it’s good to know he’s all right.

  88. ocalarob says:

defensive battle last night, trebisquit is not that great, see what you get with the 2nd pick of the draft.

    • steveccnv says:

It’s the cycle of a young QB, he’ll look good, then have a bad game, because the D game planned him and found something, now he has to adjust.

We saw RT go thru this with flying colors😉

  89. steveccnv says:

If we thought last night’s game looked like preseason game 5, wait until we take the field with 13 guys added in the last week.

Have some patience and let it play out. About all we can hope for is to keep it close, then let the heat take over late.

    • ocalarob says:

not many of those 13 will see any action

      • steveccnv says:

I agree that most will not see much action, but Davenport and Jenkins will have huge roles, and any that play STs will too.

        Jenkins
        Davenport
Isadora – if active might play
        Boehm
        Moss
        Trent Harris
        Biegel – could see STs
        Lacey
        Crawford
        Bademosi
        Webster
        Parker
        Pepper – LS

      • steveccnv says:

Breaking it down, the new guys shouldn’t make us look like we’re starting camp over.

Looking at the depth chart this team doesn’t look bad and void of talent.

If our D looks like it did in preseason, and the OL doesn’t look like a train wreck, and Fitz is on his A game we’ll have a good chance.

We still need to hold up physically and not get pushes around, and contain Jackson.

        A lot of unknowns.

  90. steveccnv says:

Great job there DolphinsWire for putting out the new depth chart with 359lb John Jenkins starting at DE 🤔

I hope they do actually play Davenport at LT, that way the rest of the OL will be in the same position they’ve been in for a while.

I think Calhoun will have a short leash.
