Dolphins walloped by Patriots in 43-0 shutout

I would like to think after seeing what QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has done for the Dolphins so far this season that the decision to go forward with Josh Rosen as the starter is going to happen as early as Game 3, away against the Cowboys. In very limited time yesterday, Rosen had 2 potential TD’s dropped in the same drive, one to Jakeem Grant and one to Preston Williams, both very catchable balls that were mishandled. Obviously when you lose 43-0, who starts at QB isn’t the only issue, but the notion that the veteran QB gives them a better chance to win on Sunday simply can’t be true.

I said it before the season that the Dolphins were putting a lot on Eric Rowe’s plate. If we had 2 poor CB’s, he wouldn’t see as much action as pass attempts would probably be divided more equally, but with Xavien Howard on the other side of the field, teams will always look to exploit the weak link. Rowe has struggled here as the starter, after being used sparingly in NE for the past 3 seasons. Rowe started only 12 total games for the Patriots, and it’s pretty clear why. Rowe is not up to the task, but our depth at CB just isn’t there, with Jomal Wiltz, Chris Lammons and Johnson Bademosi.

I look at our O-line and D-line and think “Who are these guys”? If I told you Jesse Davis would be our LT a month ago you’d surely laugh. If I told you veteran DT John Jenkins, formerly of the Saints, Seahawks and more recently the NY Giants would be our starting RDE in our 3-4 base you’d say “huh?”. I love Godchaux, glad to see he’s still with us, but surprising he’s at the nose instead of DE where Jenkins is. Jenkins is 330lbs, you’d think they would flip flop those 2. Rookie LG Michael Deiter has been OK, and veteran OC Dan Kilgore is doing his best. Tough task for Kilgore with Deiter on one side and newly acquired Danny Isidora on the other. Now, veteran J’Marcus Webb is our RT, not LT. Good job Naples, you called the Webb signing!

Then there’s the Minkah defection. Here’s Minkah’s strengths in his draft profile:

Strengths

  • Loves ball, lives ball
  • Extremely competitive play demeanor with a history of showing up big in the biggest games
  • Versatile chess piece with experience all over the field
  • Can step right in and cover the slot, play high safety or handle nickel linebacker responsibilities
  • Good feet with ability to transition backward and forward smoothly around the field
  • Gets to top chase speed quickly
  • Can become rangy safety
  • Able to stick a foot in ground and drive to the ball
  • Plays with “ball-man” vision of an off-ball defender in basketball
  • Has awareness from zone to make loads of plays
  • Has nine career interceptions and four pick-sixes
  • Has downhill mindset as a hitter
  • Plays off of blocks and into tackling position
  • Dangerous blitzer off the edge
  • Attacks line of scrimmage from high safety look in run support and welcomes physical challenges
  • Special teams ace with 22 career coverage tackles

So where the heck does this 2nd year player come off not only complaining about how he’s being used, but actually asking for a trade? Some here want to defend that? Clueless! We’re on Game #3, deal with it! To me, this may be the most disappointing development so far this season. The team invests a high 1st RD draft pick on this player and he has the audacity to request a trade in only his second season. Garbage!

It’s been nearly impossible to make any kind of evaluation on our running backs or even our WR’s. We’re -92 in just 2 games, so how can you evaluate anything? Our RB’s have a total of 23 carries for 52 yards, and Kalen Ballage has 5 yards on 9 carries. Ugh! Of course the O-line and also the level of competition we have played factors in (Ravens, Patriots). It doesn’t get any easier as we play the Dallas Cowboys in their house. Dak Prescott is playing out of his mind so far, Zeke is just getting back into the groove, and the defense which looks to be pretty good behind DeMarcus Lawrence and Leighton Vander Esch hasn’t hit it’s stride yet, but will have a much easier job against us. Our best hope is the Cowboys look past us as they play at New Orleans the following week (w/o Drew Brees).

Going forward, I want to see Josh Rosen in at QB. I can’t stomach the sight of Ryan Fitzpatrick leading this team any longer. If there was initially the thought that Ryan Fitzpatrick gives this team the best chance to win, that thought certainly has perished. Our QB alone won’t elevate our team to victory, but it looks clear to me that Josh Rosen is the more talented QB at this juncture, he can make the throws that Fitz can’t, so it’s time. I’d like to see J’Marcus Webb at LT and Jesse Davis at his more natural RT spot. He looks slow and overmatched at LT. He will still be slow and overmatched at RT, but at least his mechanics are more familiar there. We have to get some offense going, it’s been dreadful. We complained for years that scoring 17-19 points a game doesn’t cut it during the Tannehill era, well now we’re down to 5 PPG, and that must change NOW!

I want to see Chandler Cox in the backfield in some power formation and let’s make some noise! I think Rosen can give us a little spark, but all the other pieces around him have to work at a high level in order to be competitive. Gesicki is slowly coming around, he has 3 catches for 42 yards. If I told you after 2 games that no receiver or running back has not yet reached 100 total yards yet, would you believe it? Who’s closest? WR Preston Williams has 87 yards receiving. We just have to run the ball to open up the passing game. I saw Fitz play action fake about 20 times yesterday and defenders didn’t buy more than 2 of those. They were coming after him and frankly it looked silly. We need to have a few sustainable drives or our defense will be toast before we get to the BYE week. We need all hands on deck, and that includes the mutinous Minkah. C’mon son, you’re a better man than that, TEAM FIRST!!!!!

GO DOLPHINS!!

Minkah would have got beat by Witten.

    Minkah = OVERRATED

My prediction of 3-2 is already wrong

  8. bailbondmike says:

Ouch, defender was going for ball. Time to bring back Isaiah Ford.

  9. Mike E. says:

That was helmet to helmet. Should be a personal foul. Dude will definitely be fined for that one

  10. Mike E. says:

BBM, can you rewind? It’s worth it, he blew him up

  11. The Flying Pig says:

His elbow is up – that’s not going trying to make a catch

  12. Rockphin says:

We got lucky with that wide open drop

  13. bailbondmike says:

Rowe is not that good. Should have kept Armstrong.

  14. bailbondmike says:

In the last 5 quarters teams converted 3 of 4 3rd downs of 15 yards or more. Nothing has changed.

What a difference in the offense with Rosen

    Shit.

But man Rosen has a nice zip on the ball.

WHO? Wen did we get badawhatshisname

It’s nice to see them run on 3rd and short

    Ok, alright ok

  30. Rockphin says:

Our rookie LG isn’t playing so bad at LT

    WTF!!! That was a TD

  32. The Flying Pig says:

  33. ocalarob says:

    looked like one

  34. Rockphin says:

How is secured ball, one step two step not a TD? because it came out? He didn’t go to the ground. TWO STEPS

    WHAT IS A TOUCH DOWN??????

  35. ElephantRider says:

No way that would have been overturned. Good non challenge

  36. ocalarob says:

see Mike I told you we should start rosen

  37. Rockphin says:

OK let’s see your 4 minute offense

  38. ocalarob says:

    Rosen looks great

  39. Rockphin says:

    DOESN’T COUNT

  40. Rockphin says:

    Please stop with the screens

  41. The Flying Pig says:

    That was a TD Parker

  42. The Flying Pig says:

    Maybe we should trade Drake

  43. ocalarob says:

    that counts

  44. Rockphin says:

    FUCK Come on Drake!

  45. Mike E. says:

Dammit! You have to like what the offense has been doing with Rosen, but guys need to step up, namely Parker and Drake

  46. ElephantRider says:

    Fucking kidding me….

  47. CavalierKong says:

I’m sick and fucking tired of our skill p layers. Dropped passes and now a stupid fucking fumble.

  48. ocalarob says:

    drake blowzzzz

  49. CavalierKong says:

    And Rosen looks good IMO.

  50. Rockphin says:

    I see a Pick 6 coming

  51. ocalarob says:

please tell me when the 3rd qtr starts sitting in my truck outside winghouse

  52. Rockphin says:

Early on Cooper was beating X pretty often. X has tightened up a bit in the 2nd

  53. bailbondmike says:

Missed field goal and Drake fumble or we leading at halftime. SMH

  54. bailbondmike says:

yeah, trade Drake. Dropped pass killing one drive and fumbling on another stopping a drive. There’s a certain UGA running back I wouldn’t mind us drafting.

  55. CavalierKong says:

    Missed FG -3
Dropped TD pass by Preston -4 (we kicked FG)
Fumble by Drake -7 (or at worst -3)
This game could be 20-10 or 16-10

  56. mf13ss says:

    What a strange game!

Rosen looks really good, but don’t look at his stat-line (only 50% CMP).
Our O-Line actually is doing alright.
Our D-Line really blows, but the score wouldn’t dictate as much.
We’re winning in both TOP and penalties (only 1 for us today, thus far).

A future star is continuing to emerge: Preston Williams

  59. mf13ss says:

If it weren’t for a few miscues (see Cav Kong above), we’d be winning this. And I’ll add that we should have won the onside kick attempt earlier.

  60. Rockphin says:

Was Rosen just smoking a bowl on the sideline?

  61. Rockphin says:

I have been surprisingly pleased with Dieter’s play at LT

  62. manitobafinfan says:

I also think we had that TD , but it would not have been overturned

  63. Rockphin says:

X just badly beaten on that route

  64. manitobafinfan says:

MF , I agree on both your above points

  65. ElephantRider says:

Somebody tell the Fins the game started….

  66. Rockphin says:

It was the right to the face that may very well have been missed….

  67. mf13ss says:

It would be nice if we’d have a few outside runs designed for Drake. I mean, that’s his bread-n-butter.

  68. ocalarob says:

    Harris sucks

  69. wyoming85 says:

Well this sin’t going to end well!

  70. The Flying Pig says:

So we are not a 2nd half team

  71. mf13ss says:

    It WAS a good game…

  72. Rockphin says:

    LOL @

You think this is love? This is a billion years of Tiger DNA waiting to pounce.

I just want to see a marginally competitive game today. If we’re still in this thing in the 3rd quarter, that will be marked improvement in my book. It would be nice to see the defense have another quality game. And hopefully we see some things out of Rosen on the field to get excited about.
    ——————

Next week I’m going to hope we’re in the game until the start of the 4th!

  75. ElephantRider says:

I’ll know this team is serious about winning when Grant is no longer fielding punts.

  76. bailbondmike says:

Why so many deep routes on a 3rd and 4?

  77. Mike E. says:

O-lione having such a hard time. Can’t provide a pocket at this point. We will be very aggressive in FA and the draft fixing the O-line. We all knew it, but it’s really showing in all 3 games. Can’t run, can’t protect, we fall behind, and it just gets worse in that situation.

  78. bailbondmike says:

We should have kept Spence to help on that DL. Haven’t heard Wilkins name since game 1.

  79. bailbondmike says:

Pollard was the backup to Darrell Henderson at Memphis. Dude is fast/explosive and a great receiver.

  80. wyoming85 says:

X got his ankles broke! 😦

  81. The Flying Pig says:

We have the worst defense in the league

  82. Mike E. says:

I think we should give Mark Walton and Myles Gaskin some more looks. I don’t like the way either Drake or Ballage runs in the open field. Neither guy looks physical at all out there. Ballage is awfully soft for his size. They get hit, they go down. No fight.

  83. ElephantRider says:

    Just have no OL

And the lack of talent can’t keep pace.

  84. bailbondmike says:

    Lets go Chargers/49er’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  85. mf13ss says:

I’m ready to fire Chris Grier.

  86. bailbondmike says:

The game starts in the trenches but we totally decimated ours on both sides of the ball.

  87. Mike E. says:

M – Not sure how or why you want to fire Grier. We tore this house down to the bare bones. Now if you thought the Hot water cooler was good (Tunsil), we got enough to pay for a new one and more, and if you’re upset getting rid of the A/C unit which was just a year old, we probably got enough to replace that too. To watch the product on the field now is painful, but you can’t fire him until he starts buying all the stuff to build the house back up. Hopefully Flores is a good enough contractor to work with the materials Grier brings him.

  88. wyoming85 says:

Unlike the pundits I’m not going to add the season totals this year!
    I saw marked improvement today!

And that’s all I’m asking for!

    • manitobafinfan says:

I agree, and we also lost 3 of today’s OL starters in the 2nd half

    • olddolphan says:

INDEED YOU DID, Wyoming. But this brief trend will be reversed because of our O-Line woes. Losing by 25 is NOT ACCEPTABLE IN MY BOOK. To quote the Don of Miami: “Losing in any form is never acceptable.”

      • wyoming85 says:

This is what blow it the fuck up looks like!

We are just seeing who is going to be on board , and who the quitters are!

  89. olddolphan says:

HOW MANY YEARS HAVE PEOPLE LIKE MF-13, Your’s Truly, and others on this board been BEGGING ROSS AND HIS PEOPLE to address the O-LINE PROBLEM???? And for how many years have they ignored it??? Oh, ya, we had ONE draft pick in the first 3 rounds for the O-Line in the last 3 seasons. WHOOPPEEEE!!! And the first O-Lineman who goes down is followed by a guy WHO JUST CAN’T PLAY at this level!!! AT ONE POINT, we had a legitimate chance to win this game!! But, once again, the O-Line problems, specifically the lack of quality depth on the O-Line, has come back to bite Ross’s team in the ass AGAIN!!
    ———————
I HOPE THE NEXT OWNER replaces the ineffective CHRIS GRIER with someone who appreciates the importance of building and MAINTAINING a quality offensive line. Grier sure as hell hasn’t done it. INDEED, this season he got rid of TUNSIL who, at the time, was OUR ONLY ABOVE AVERAGE O-LINEMAN after jujuan james was lost to free agency!!!!! THAT may make sense to some people, BUT NOT TO ME!!!
    ——————
This current Dolphins team has little chance for success given our vast talent holes in the offensive line. Lord knows the Fins tried today. BUT THEY STILL LOST BY 25 POINTS!!!!! —I can hear it now. “We’ve turned the corner. Stick with the plan. Grier and Ross know what they’re doing. In just a few more years we’ll win a playoff game and we’ll be legitimate Super Bowl contenders!” Keep drinking the KOOL-AID, boys. We’ve been waiting this ENTIRE CENTURY to win a playoff game and it STILL HASN’T HAPPENED!! IN FACT, we are NOW further from the Super Bowl, in terms of talent, ownership, and management, THAN WE’VE BEEN IN OUR ENTIRE HISTORY!!
HELL, the inaugural team in 1966 GOT to a Super Bowl in their 6th season and WON Super Bowls in their 7th and 8th seasons. Ross has owned this team for 10 seasons and we’re further away from the Promised Land than EVER!!
    ——————
Miami has failed to cover the spread IN ANY GAME THIS SEASON SO FAR (as I have predicted). They’ve been outscored 133-16, a RECORD in the history of this franchise!!
Let the Bruce Beal Era begin as soon as possible!!!!

    • olddolphan says:

Mr. Spikes: I HAD NOT read your suggestion to CAN GRIER until after I wrote the above entry. Sadly, in the unlikely event that Ross DOES FIRE GRIER, history tells us he’ll only appoint SOMEONE WORSE to replace him. Substantial improvement will NOT COME until after Ross sells the team.

This team has all sorts of problems, but our skill players are supposed to be pretty good and they have been horrible for 3 weeks. I’ve lost track of the crazy number of dropped passes by our WRs and RBs that have cost us again and again. And you can’t fumble the ball inside the 10.

  93. wyoming85 says:

Minkah has an interception and a forced fumble in a little over one quarter of play against the Niners.

  96. olddolphan says:

WYOMING: HOW did all these “QUITTERS” as you call them, get here?? And WHO picked them?? Upper management, including ownership, must be held accountable for the entire mess this franchise has become.

Is THIS the time the INCREDIBLE HULK comes to the executive meeting room and kicks some serious ass??? –Ken, do you hear me??

    • wyoming85 says:

I’m not into looking into the past!
we blew it up! all anybody can ask for is to define what we have , so they can get what we really need in the draft and FA.
If you want to do the mental masturbation of reliving the past that’s on you!

      • olddolphan says:

SOOO you see something wrong in honoring Shula and what his team accomplished??– Actually, I use references to better times for the benefit of those who are too young to have been there. I’m terribly sorry you are offended by past successes. But if you are pleased with lousy football, you’ll have plenty to cheer about as long as the current ownership is in charge.

  97. olddolphan says:

WYOMING: REPLY for YOU below your 4:55 post. ENJOY!!

  98. CavalierKong says:

Sheesh, Niners with their 4th TO, 2nd in the red zone. Somehow Niners only down 6-0 lol

  99. wyoming85 says:

  100. Mike E. says:

The owner Steve Ross asked for a rebuild, and the GM Chris Grier is obliging him, Complaining about tearing down this team that has sucked for decades makes no sense. Can’t we at least wait until we complete a couple of drafts that we are totally stocked with plenty of picks to complain? Hating Steve Ross for rebuilding now also makes no sense. You all say blow it up every season this team has no talent, so they blew it up! Now you have to be patient and see what happens next, or you’re just contradicting yourself!

    • The Flying Pig says:

      (Slow clap)

      • olddolphan says:

I HAVE NEVER said “blow it up!” What I HAVE said is a combination of 2 things: 1) build around the good players YOU DO HAVE and get rid of the bums and 2)if the owner and FO combined make bad selection after bed selection, replace them, Too!
——–CONTRAST that to what we now have. IT IS: Get rid of the vast majority of our players and replace them with lesser players and draft picks. Said draft picks to be made by MANY OF THE SAME PEOPLE who selected the bums (or under producing players) IN THE FIRST PLACE. THAT’s what we have now.

  101. The Flying Pig says:

This will help offset some bitterness about minkah stats today

  102. The Flying Pig says:

    Again

  103. wyoming85 says:

    OD
There is nothing wrong with being proud of the previous Dolphin teams!

Hell I’d dare say without their success we would not be talking right now!

But what the team is doing now has no bearing on the past!

If you can’t look forward you will be miserable (more than going 8-8) for the next 2 years!

It’s just my opinion, It doesn’t count for much!!!!!!!

    • olddolphan says:

I HEAR YOU, Wyoming. However, no matter how old or how new Shula’s statements are, they DO ring true with me. And I happen to believe that “Blowing Up the Team,” good players and bad, IS NOT THE BEST POLICY.
BUT, like you, my opinion doesn’t count for much, either. That said, I do believe my many decades of being a season ticket holder, combined with my service to my country, gives me the right to call out ANYBODY when I think they are wrong!

WHEN I GOT BACK from active duty, I told a minister that I believed both political parties mismanaged the Vietnam War. The minister replied that “you have a right to your opinion as long as you agree with me!” And he went on to tell me how perfectly great both Presidents Johnson and Nixon were!”

Or as good as Minkah tackling Kyle Juszczyk 🙂

      • CavalierKong says:

LOL, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team pack it in so completely the last month of the season.

  107. wyoming85 says:

    Fuck Football!

  108. Mike E. says:

I think as Dolphins fans we at least have something to look forward to. I liked the way Rosen played today. We may have ourselves a QB. Without question, as long as Rosen is healthy there is no reason to ever see Ryan Fitzpatrick again.

    • CavalierKong says:

Completely agree. Rosen showed some good promise in the 1st half. I’m actually looking forward to next week just to see him play again.

      • CavalierKong says:

And if the bums we have at WR and RB can stop killing drives, maybe we can grab a lead for the 1st time this season and/or compete for a win.

  109. olddolphan says:

Mike E: Response to you just below your 5:22 post.
HOPE YOU AND PIGGY ENJOY IT!!!

  110. Mike E. says:

OD – Grier has been the GM since 2017. I don’t think it’s accurate to say that the entire roster we just turned over was chosen by him,. That’s just an easy jab, but it’s not true. Tannehill, Gore, Wake, Ju’Wuan James, Stills, Alonso, McDonald. There are more but all those guys were picked previous to Grier being the GM. The 2 players that bothered me were Tunsil and Fitzpatrick, but as I alluded to earlier, we should be getting more than enough compensation to replace them and more.

  111. CavalierKong says:

Niners doing everything they can to lose this game, smh.

  112. wyoming85 says:

  113. wyoming85 says:

  114. New Age says:

I didn’t get to watch the game but saw the highlights and read the media responses. I’ll continue to hate the Tunsil trade because we have no OL and you can’t win without one. We are at the point we have to hope Grier knocks it out of the park because this team has very little talent. Our WRs are terrible asnd Grant, who we just extended, is one of the worst. Davis, who we also just extended, is also pretty bad. I’m not getting the idea behind extending that garbage players and trading off all the good, young ones.

Maybe next week we’ll see what a TD looks like going into game 4. Rosen is the reason to watch the Dolphins and he has nothing to work with. Our defense is also quite terrible. Where are the building blocks again?

  115. wyoming85 says:

  116. CavalierKong says:

SMH, another TO by the Niners

  117. The Flying Pig says:

    Steelers take the loss!
    Weeeeee

  118. The Flying Pig says:

    Let’s go chargers

  119. Rockphin says:

Right now Steeler’s Pick for Minkah is tied for the #1 pick with ours…

    • The Flying Pig says:

There are 7 teams without a win
But one of them is the cards and they have a tie
We are in a 5 way tie for 0-3
Root for the redskins tomorrow so it’s not a 6 way tie

    • What if Miami got the number one and number two selections? Wow

If so, one pick likely could be traded down .

Btw Mike, NOBODY changes their a/c when it’s one year old, lol.
      Find a different analogy 😎

  120. Rockphin says:

has anyone ever had the #1 & #2 pick in the same draft?

  121. Rockphin says:

    NFL Team

    Arizona Cardinals
    Cincinnati Bengals
    Denver Broncos
    Miami Dolphins
    New York Jets
    Pittsburgh Steelers
    Washington Redskins

    Draft order right now

  122. It’s tough to believe, but new AC installed in a home in Florida , is between $9,000 and $11,000

10 years ago You could get a new ac system for $3300-$4200

  123. Steeler fans comments are suggesting they stole Minkah from Miami
Minkah had an interception and a forced fumble today, he seems at home, Steelers need some offense, but their defense is rounding into good shape

They really miss Ben and Brown on that offense, it’s a popcorn dink and dunk offense without B and B

  124. My magic Youth basketball team that I coach, won their second game today, 41-22.

    Last week we won 51-3.
We played what used to be the best team in the league, and we did it with our best player missing the game, and our second best player got his ankle twisted near halftime.

I gave a sportmanship award to our fallen teammate, he wanted to keep playing for his team, but injured players don’t play in this league, they are only 15-17 years old and parents would have a cow , if You don’t pull their injured child out

I talked with the league manager, and he said the championship game will likely be us and that team
It’s going to be us, My boys are kicking ass, playing wicked defense, rebounding, stealing the ball, one kid even made 4 three pointers today, it was a blast 😎

    • Correction, last week was 48- 3
I counted our last 3’point shot, but the ref said time was expired. Of course refs are always wrong, lmao.
We had a bad ref today too, a couple times our players got knocked down and no call, but he was calling Ricky tack shit on our guys

Refs always trying to help the losing team so the games are close,

WTF I say just let the kids play , and whatever happens happens

  125. Coaches are funny, the other teams coach was trying to intimidate Me by walking in front of Me and standing in front of our bench.

I told my assstant coach to stand near the wall, and I stood near the boundary line.

He tries to go back to his team, but has to step onto the floor to go around us, lol
The ref called a technical for the coach stepping onto the court during live play, and the ref called a technical on him, lol

He stayed on his end for the rest of the game, lmao
He really screwed up at the end too, one of his players had a sprained wrist, and it was their best player, so the coach didn’t take him out

Then his injured player got knocked down and injured worse, kid was crying. I couldn’t believe it.
I called timeout and told the ref my boys will not finish the game , unless the injured player on their side comes out

His mom walked onto the court, and took him out, lol. He will be ok, just a little sore

M – Not sure how or why you want to fire Grier. We tore this house down to the bare bones…
    ————-
Mike E, part of it was just me blowing off steam after another blowout loss… part of it was this:

Chris Grier willingly jettisoned some of his best picks since he became defacto GM in 2017, some of whom we’d need for the rebuild. I don’t want to get too deep into the matter, but if I was Grier? I’d be asking for the team to trade ME. So in that regard, perhaps I shouldn’t hold Grier culpable for my frustrations.

Sufficed to say, I’m not a happy camper that we traded Tunsil and Minkah. Yeah, I kind of get trading Minkah, but I’m not sure I like it… or Minkah for being a petulant child in wanting out.

I’m just just flabbergasted, bud… what can I say?

  128. mf13ss says:

WOOOOO! First time I saw that trailer for “The Rise of Skywalker” on TV! I saw it about 2-3 weeks ago online.

  129. naplesfan2010 says:

Aside from the fact that it was Ezekiel,
why are we getting gashed up the middle?
I thought we had that shit more under control this year?

  130. mf13ss says:

    Naples,

Additionally — regarding getting gashed up the middle — I thought that between Raekwon and Baker sewing up the middle, we’d be golden. Man… Raekwon and Baker (contingent on 3-4 vs 4-3) have really let us down.

  131. I didn’t see todays game, but it’s baffling that Wilkins hasn’t made some noise yet

  132. naplesfan2010 says:

I saw during the broadcast that “Dolphins Fire Sale” segment.
It looks bad when it’s all put together that way,
but many of the moves were made for legitimate, if painful, reasons.

Stills talked himself out of town. Minkah whined himself out.
Wake had to be retired, so we set him up with a last Big Paycheck, out of respect.

We needed to get younger, so letting Quinn and Amendola go made sense,
although I would have kept both. However … then we find out
Quinn was due for a suspension, and Amendola had GF problems at the Beach.

The fan base had soured on Tannehill, so he needed a fresh start (pardon the pun).
I would not have cut Sitton, but his best days were behind him.

Alonso was a liability in covering TEs and RBs and Spence in run D,
    which really is their jobs,
plus they were not good scheme fits with the new defense,
so better to cut them and train new men to play the way the new coach wants to play it.

Trading Tunsil was a mistake done out of desperation to get out of the 8-8 rut.
I would have paid Juwuan James, because he’s my boy,
but I’m a bit too sentimental, and it’s a business.

I witnessed the Marlins fire sale, and I don’t this is like that.

    • I didn’t see anything wrong with Stills or Minkah being malcontents, what I saw is a poorly managed team designed to tank, and two proud warriors wanted no part of it

If Stills and Minkah were happy to tank, with no commitment to win from Ross, Grier, or Flores, then I would question why

It’s best for ALL players to move on from Miami, it’s a shit franchise

The reports of some players wanting to be traded, turned out to be correct

  133. Minkah started at FS today, came up with a pick and forced a fumble. He did have a oenalty, but played well overall, and did NOT ask to be traded after the game because Steelers KNOW Minkah is NOT a lb

Minkah needs to play free safety, it’s his position,

he’s very good at FS, could possibly make a pro bowl this year or the next, he is not a malcontent, Dolphins just mismanaged him and he wanted better

  134. naplesfan2010 says:

They are playing Wilkins to eat double teams, similar to what they asked Suh to do.
I think it was a mistake to make Suh do that,
and I think it is a mistake to require Wilkins to do that.

It’s one thing to ask Paul Soliai to eat doubles, because that is what he was meant to do,
and he could do little else, and it really helped us for him to do it.

Suh and Wilkins can help more if used differently. They are dynamic and can be game changers.
I’ve watched Wilkins a lot, and I warned when we drafted him, that he could be misused and disappear off the stat sheet.

I also warned against using Minkah all over the field instead of giving him one job to do and letting him excel.

Coaches should not mess with a guy’s mojo. That’s a special thing and should be allowed to continue unabated with its own inertia, not blunted by his own coaches until he has lost the Big Mo.

    • Much agreed, a first round pick is a terrible thing to waste. How and why the Fins couldn’t manage Minkah and why Ryan started the first two games, is just piss poor management

Rosen won the preseason, and they started Ryan anyway? That’s just dumb coaching

Ross needs to sell the team so they can rebuild correctly, and the new owner needs to find a new coach that’s committed to win, Flores is NOT the answer, and is the wrong person to guide the team during its rebuild
Dolphins need a coach that can bring all of these new players from the drafts ahead and make a team out of them
Ross, Grier, and Flores, are not the right guys to select, and coach up the new players into contenders

We have tons of picks, but we all remember Irelands last draft when the Dolphins were loaded with 5 picks in the top 82 selections, yet Ireland managed to fuck it all up anyway and get fired due to his incompetence

The Dolphins strategy of acquiring extra picks will backfire horribly if the wrong players are selected, and the coaching sucks and they aren’t managed properly

The rebuild needs to include the incompetent FO to be complete, and the team needs to do it , before they screw up the 2020 draft

  135. I think this is Mike Tomlins last year too
He rode Cowhers players to a SB about 12 years ago, and the team has steadily declined every year since
With Ben expected to not play again, it seems like they should do the same as Miami, bring in new blood and start over

  136. mf13ss says:

All I’m going to say regarding our FO is THIS…

Over recent years (2000s+), constant cellar-dwellers with all of their early (<– sometimes MULTIPLE) draft picks, we've seen teams FAIL to rebuild properly. I'll cite the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns as examples.

Now MAYBE the Browns have finally gotten it right with the hire of John Dorsey (Lord knows I wanted him to be our GM back in '12, with the coaching change from Sparano to Philbin… but we kept Jeff Ireland, SMH). It's still too early to tell if the Browns are going to be perennials. And the Lions are still just the measly Lions.

So I ask… IF Chris Grier IS the man for the job… why'd we trade all of his excellent draft picks???

The only answer is to save money on payroll and tank for Tua
    ———————
My buddy, I do NOT like the narrative you’re pushing, that Ross is trying to save money. The man has probably spent more money than any other owner on players in recent memory. Know who has to swallow dead cap? The OWNER.

Steve Ross is ANYTHING but cheap, and that’s a FACT. Clueless? YES!!! But cheap? NO!!!

  138. mf13ss says:

    David,

Sorry, Bro. I didn’t mean to come off as abrasive to ya.

  139. We good buddy

I don’t think Ross was cheap on the stadium renovation, that’s his investment, and he will get an ROI. On it.

It’s the payroll that is cheap, most of the talent is gone and the remaining players were dirt cheap compared to the ones that left over the last three years

If Ross is preparing to sell the team, these are actually shrewd business decisions, but if Ross thinks this is the way to proceed, Fins are in for a rocky road

  140. 2019 isn’t the first year that being cheap cost Miami, this has gone on for 3 years

Failing to ink Landry to bring in the cheaper Amendola and Wilson was a huge setback to the team

Amendola is gone, and Wilson is totally useless.
Albert Wilson is extremely overrated and no help whatsoever.

From then til now, Fins have unloaded about 20 contracts to much inferior players with cheaper contracts.

The season ticket holders that paid upfront to see veteran pricey talent, is instead stuck with an inferior cheap knockoff of a team
Ross taking the money before unloading Tunsil, Stills, Minkah, Alonso, and a few others for cheap nobodies , is cheating the season ticket holders who pAy thousands of dollars for seats, parking, food, etc

  141. ocalarob says:

The good new about yesterday was Rosen, the man has a rocket for an arm. we will probably build a team around him which is great as we won’t have to use an early pick on a QB.

great move last year getting him for a 2nd rnder.

  142. ocalarob says:

It’s not going to get any easier, we had 2 OL go down, Davis and Isidora.

Wow, that’s a ripoff!!! I had my entire system replaced. The outside unit replaced. The heat and A/C unit in the attic replaced. All new wiring and copper tubing. New drip pan that has an automated pump that pumps the water out. New door for the intake vent. They caulked and sealed the intake shaft to the attic. Everything new except for duct work and the whole deal cost me 4,950. I don’t have a small house either per say, it’s 2300 sq. ft. Oh, and I live in FL.
