Dolphins Win!! Defeat Jets 26-18 and are no longer at the bottom of the “tank”

Preston Williams did this twice yesterday, catching 2 TD passes from QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Dolphins finally put together a complete game as they held on at home to earn their first victory of the season. I’m sure Brian Flores enjoyed every second of it. The run game never got on track but that didn’t stop Fitzpatrick from using many different receivers to move the ball. It seems almost routine now that Fitzpatrick spreads the ball around and he hit 9 different Dolphins this past Sunday against the Jets. This was easily Fitzpatrick’s best effort as Dolphins QB. He finished the game completing 24 of 36 attempts for 288 yards and 3 TD’s and no interceptions. Pretty impressive, especially considering how woeful our run game was, 24 carries for 50 yards, so it was on Fitzpatrick to make things happen.

I know you all remember the scene last season where Adam Gase was sitting on the bench during a blowout loss all by his lonesome writing up plays on a clipboard or whiteboard. That same scene played itself out again on Sunday, except this time Gase was on the visiting sideline. Strange that it could occur so similarly twice. Gase has totally fallen out of favor (understandably) with Jets fans who are now calling for him to be fired. Not likely to happen as GM Joe Douglas was hand picked by none other than Gase himself, plus he has a 4 year contract the Jets would have to eat as well. He will most likely get another year with a draft that both he and Douglas engineer and then be judged by those results.

Mike Gesicki is improving and he had a big day against the AFC East rivals. Gesicki caught 6 passes for 95 yards and now has a respectable 21 receptions for 248 yards. One huge disappointment however is the fact that he still has no TD receptions. 6’5 250 and a huge wingspan and catch radius plus a 40″ vertical should have lead to at least a few TD’s, right?

The Dolphins defense had 3 sacks and also an INT for DB Jomal Wiltz. No, Charles Harris didn’t get one, it was rookie 1st RD pick Christian Wilkins notching his first sack. Nik Needham throttled Darnold on a delayed blitz where Darnold never saw Needham coming. Davon Godchaux also got his first sack of the season. The run defense was stout enough to contain Bell and Powell and keep that duo under 100 yards for a total of 81 yards.

It was great day in all, any time you beat the Jets, especially a Jets team with Adam Gase at the helm. Keep in mind Gase defeated the Jets twice last year as Dolphins HC but now lost to his former (depleted) squad. That’s gotta hurt! The Dolphins are now one of 3 teams that are 1-7, while the Redskins are 1-8 and the team that is at the bottom of the barrel but the top of the tank is now the Cincinnati Bengals who are 0-8. Odds are we won’t be the first pick, and you know what, that’s just fine with me!

  15. manitobafinfan says:

Did our new sherels used to play for Vikings ? They had a really good return guy/dB with that name

  16. Tim Knight says:

This team looks cohesive. We need more talent but it looks well coached. The tackling has been better than it’s been in a long time. That’s a Belichick instilled fundamental to Flores. If you don’t tackle, you don’t play. The process has already begun. There’s a good chance this team and specifically the defense is a nasty bunch in a good way next year. 🙂

    • manitobafinfan says:

I agree. The lesser talented players we have here , have bought in and are playing well together

    • bookman11 says:

I was just thinking of something to type, and you hit on pretty much everything I am thinking. They look really well prepared, cant wait to infuse talent into this.

  17. stangerx says:

Am I the only one who sees dudes have no clue about make nice plays? Maybe they are good…. or maybe the scheme on D is a good one.

  18. Tim Knight says:

Baker, Biegal and McMillan are 3 nice LBs to build on. Add that terror edge rusher and everything changes.

  38. Rockphin says:

You know, Needham has given up some big plays this year. I have cursed #40 a bunch, but he has been steadily improving throughout the season so I will go with it.

  48. The Flying Pig says:

  49. Rockphin says:

“You and I talk all the time, Picks Rubs, whatever you want to call them….”

Well, I call them a violation of the rules and in the case of the MAULING of #47 by the linemen it is offensive pass interference.

  75. Mike E. says:

Hey now!!!! 2 in a row baby!

  76. Tim Knight says:

Way to go on the road against a team trying to stay in the playoff hunt. Go Phins!!!

Oh yeah… you tank fuckers… do what you do. LOL

  77. ElephantRider says:

    2 in a row baby!!

Fuck you want to lose tankers!

  78. Mike E. says:

I was thinking the fix was in and Indy was going to win and the fact that Fitz missed that set of downs was going to be the controversy. Glad we won it.

  79. Rockphin says:

  80. pheloniusphish says:

Take that. Guess they’re not trying to lose on purpose after all.

  81. bookman11 says:

This is so awesome! Screw the tank crap!!!

  82. bookman11 says:

O Rob, still think they are purposely losing??? You were really offended by it

  83. manitobafinfan says:

Bombers up 35-14 , running out the clock 1:25 to go .. western Final here we come

  84. Tim Knight says:

I give the coaches a ton of credit. They had this team prepared even if not spectacular. LOL

    Fuck off tankers!!!

  85. Ken says:

I still want one of the top 3 QBs so let’s not get too excited now

    • Mike E. says:

I do too, but but we have so many needs and if it doesn’t work out this year, we can get a QB next year. I want to build a team so I have no desire to trade up future picks to get a specific guy. That rarely works out well.

  86. olddolphan says:

ONE OF THE COLTS’ COACHES asked Adam Gase “What play would YOU call on 4th and 10?” His response was,”An 8 yard pass!”
REALLY pleasantly surprised that the Dolphins pulled this one out of the fire. It was a truly great effort from an under manned team! Fitzpatrick showed everyone he still has plenty of fuel in the tank. And, at a key moment of the game (when Fitzy was inside the tent) coach Flores didn’t allow Mr. Rosen a chance to blow the game.
Gonna forsake my usual Colorado Kool-Aid victory beverage. This calls for a glass of my favorite cabernet!! —DEATH TO TANKERS!!!!!

  87. ElephantRider says:

    RT17 with the “kill” today.

He made big plays when it counted. Good for him.

  88. Mike E. says:

Agree Tim and ER. Just keep getting better, and we seem to be doing just that!

  89. bookman11 says:

    This team is coming together

  90. bookman11 says:

I mentioned it last week. they are developing an identity

  91. D says:

    Any bitching yet?

  92. Ken says:

RT17 is playing really well right now for the Titans. They have won 3 of 4 with him starting including 2 in the 4th quarter

    • Mike E. says:

I don’t want to knock him but I want to see if he can win if the run game isn’t there for him. I don’t think he can do it, and I wouldn’t want to need to him to do that, especially in a big game.

    • ElephantRider says:

Yep. I’m rooting for him. Pretty rare for me cheering on an ex player. Wish him nothing but the best.

  93. Phindog says:

Fuck Ya Fuck Ya. Dolphins WIN 🐬🐬🐬🐬🐕😎👍🥃🥃

  94. New Age says:

We won and that’s all that matters but we are still a team with little talent. The coaching staff has me excited with the infusion of talent we will see next year. Needham has improved a lot. Walton looks like a starter. Wilkins is improving. Parker looks good finally. These coaches know how to coach up talent.

I just hope they know how to teach young QBs because Rosen looks like he he will never be the guy here. Flores and the team looked desperate not to give Rosen a chance to fuck up. That’s a terrible look and I hope he finds whatever is missing.

I hope players really like those Mondays off from here on out….

    • ElephantRider says:

    • Tim Knight says:

I’m still in a wait and see with Rosen. We’ve seen it before. Let a young guy have a 2nd season in the same system once in awhile. Rosen is 22 years old. He’s not done because of a game situation decision. We won the game. We were going to do that Fitz as well.

Today Flores taught his team how to win a close game. That’s part of it too. Not just FA and the draft.

  95. ElephantRider says:

Media already poo pooing the win. Who wants to read that crap? I don’t understand them. Don’t write about the game, just how winning screws everything up? Dumb

  96. manitobafinfan says:

lol Minkah seals Steelers win with an INT.

    Mike E: ^^ I played him today 😊👍

  97. New Age says:

The really stupid part of the media is that we can still get one of the top 3. We have extra picks if needed and no one knows which of them will end up on top. Success for a QB will always depend on the other 21 guys playing most of the snaps. It’s been shown over and over ad nauseam, but we still get the same repetitive dreck week after week.

I still haven’t seen one writer lambasting the Bengals for tanking. Where’s the outrage?!!

  98. naplesfan2010 says:

went to Bokampers to watch the game. Frickin awesome!

Flores deserved that one. Had his guys ready and a good game plan also

  99. stangerx says:

After the season is over….. wouldn’t you really prefer to be 4-12 or 5-11 with a bullet?

Draft is a crap shoot anyhow.

  100. Randy says:

I was wondering if the Tannehill gang would come out this week. I didn’t hear much last week when he threw 1 TD and 2 INTs in a terrible performance. The guy also still gets sacked about 4 times a game. High quality QB play there. By the end of the season he’ll still be the mediocre QB he’s always been, and we’ll enjoy the fruits of our 4th round pick we got for a top 10 choice. Yay!

  101. wyoming85 says:

  102. wyoming85 says:

Weather your a Tannehill hater or lover makes not 2 shit’s this year!

  103. Ken says:

    Randy: has
Tannehill is playing well on a team that has some talent. But that was always my point. He may not have been the answer. He could win with a a good team but we weren’t a good team.

  104. New Age says:

Tannehill is an example that you can win with average(or less sometimes) QB play and Rodgers shows that great QB play doesn’t mean a whole lot in the end. Team game. Give me great coaching like NE has had for almost two decades(and we had for 2.5)

  105. The Flying Pig says:

  106. Randy says:

I moved on from Tannehill about 4 years ago. I thought we’d get to stop hearing about him but some of you guys around here just can’t quit him. Lol

  107. CavalierKong says:

What unbelievable bullshit to pull Fitz on a medical check 4 plays, 2 changes of possession and 2 commercial breaks after the hit, right after a huge TO with less than 6 minutes left in a one point game. Horrible.

Satisfying win after still reading tanking crap in the media all week. Loving the coaching staff. 3rd quarter ineptitude is concerning on a coaching level. Still, loving what this staff is getting out of this talent level, and you can see the progression week after week.

Still don’t care about where we end up in the draft. Win out if you can. Go Dolphins!!!

  108. Rockphin says:

I like the positive direction I think I detect in the team. Disciplined smart players. I see guys that we were ready to right off being play makers and contributing more each week.

  109. Rockphin says:

    Wooooo Hoooooo Go Bombers!

  110. Randy says:

Yeah, maybe that’s possible. I just can’t say that because we never even saw the guy in a single playoff game. Good kid, but I just can’t say you could win with him because I’ve never seen him in the post season. Maybe we will this year.

  111. Randy says:

I think with how they protect QBs and slant all the rules in their favor a QB can make a big difference. Winning championships is usually a combination of many thing. People say defense wins championships. Well, if that’s true, why is Chicago 4-5 right now with a really good defense? For me, having a really good QB doesn’t guarantee success…it just makes everything that much easier, so I want one.

  112. The Flying Pig says:

I doubt the redskins, giants kr jests take a QB
But forget about a chase young

  113. D says:

Not that it matters to me, but for those worried about draft position, those teams that were challenging us for the top spot, most of them won today as well so we aren’t much worse off in that respect than we were.

  114. D says:

Supposedly the Redskins would since Haskins wasn’t someone they all wanted. I don’t know that they are sold on him as their franchise guy. I think Giants are happy with their guy, and probably Jets.

  115. ElephantRider says:

I just dont give a shit. I must be a moron, but I never thought getting the #1 pick was essential to being a winning team.

Oh….wait…..its all about 2 QBs…..ok. Seen this movie before and it was a horror show for ALOT of teams. So forgive me for not giving a shit.
