Dolphins Win!! Defeat Jets 26-18 and are no longer at the bottom of the “tank”

Preston Williams did this twice yesterday, catching 2 TD passes from QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Dolphins finally put together a complete game as they held on at home to earn their first victory of the season. I’m sure Brian Flores enjoyed every second of it. The run game never got on track but that didn’t stop Fitzpatrick from using many different receivers to move the ball. It seems almost routine now that Fitzpatrick spreads the ball around and he hit 9 different Dolphins this past Sunday against the Jets. This was easily Fitzpatrick’s best effort as Dolphins QB. He finished the game completing 24 of 36 attempts for 288 yards and 3 TD’s and no interceptions. Pretty impressive, especially considering how woeful our run game was, 24 carries for 50 yards, so it was on Fitzpatrick to make things happen.

I know you all remember the scene last season where Adam Gase was sitting on the bench during a blowout loss all by his lonesome writing up plays on a clipboard or whiteboard. That same scene played itself out again on Sunday, except this time Gase was on the visiting sideline. Strange that it could occur so similarly twice. Gase has totally fallen out of favor (understandably) with Jets fans who are now calling for him to be fired. Not likely to happen as GM Joe Douglas was hand picked by none other than Gase himself, plus he has a 4 year contract the Jets would have to eat as well. He will most likely get another year with a draft that both he and Douglas engineer and then be judged by those results.

Mike Gesicki is improving and he had a big day against the AFC East rivals. Gesicki caught 6 passes for 95 yards and now has a respectable 21 receptions for 248 yards. One huge disappointment however is the fact that he still has no TD receptions. 6’5 250 and a huge wingspan and catch radius plus a 40″ vertical should have lead to at least a few TD’s, right?

The Dolphins defense had 3 sacks and also an INT for DB Jomal Wiltz. No, Charles Harris didn’t get one, it was rookie 1st RD pick Christian Wilkins notching his first sack. Nik Needham throttled Darnold on a delayed blitz where Darnold never saw Needham coming. Davon Godchaux also got his first sack of the season. The run defense was stout enough to contain Bell and Powell and keep that duo under 100 yards for a total of 81 yards.

It was great day in all, any time you beat the Jets, especially a Jets team with Adam Gase at the helm. Keep in mind Gase defeated the Jets twice last year as Dolphins HC but now lost to his former (depleted) squad. That’s gotta hurt! The Dolphins are now one of 3 teams that are 1-7, while the Redskins are 1-8 and the team that is at the bottom of the barrel but the top of the tank is now the Cincinnati Bengals who are 0-8. Odds are we won’t be the first pick, and you know what, that’s just fine with me!

GO DOLPHINS!!

I was wondering if the Tannehill gang would come out this week. I didn’t hear much last week when he threw 1 TD and 2 INTs in a terrible performance. The guy also still gets sacked about 4 times a game. High quality QB play there. By the end of the season he’ll still be the mediocre QB he’s always been, and we’ll enjoy the fruits of our 4th round pick we got for a top 10 choice. Yay!

Weather your a Tannehill hater or lover makes not 2 shit’s this year!

    Randy: has
Tannehill is playing well on a team that has some talent. But that was always my point. He may not have been the answer. He could win with a a good team but we weren’t a good team.

  5. New Age says:

Tannehill is an example that you can win with average(or less sometimes) QB play and Rodgers shows that great QB play doesn’t mean a whole lot in the end. Team game. Give me great coaching like NE has had for almost two decades(and we had for 2.5)

    Tim,
I moved on from Tannehill about 4 years ago. I thought we’d get to stop hearing about him but some of you guys around here just can’t quit him. Lol

  8. CavalierKong says:

What unbelievable bullshit to pull Fitz on a medical check 4 plays, 2 changes of possession and 2 commercial breaks after the hit, right after a huge TO with less than 6 minutes left in a one point game. Horrible.

Satisfying win after still reading tanking crap in the media all week. Loving the coaching staff. 3rd quarter ineptitude is concerning on a coaching level. Still, loving what this staff is getting out of this talent level, and you can see the progression week after week.

Still don’t care about where we end up in the draft. Win out if you can. Go Dolphins!!!

  9. Rockphin says:

I like the positive direction I think I detect in the team. Disciplined smart players. I see guys that we were ready to right off being play makers and contributing more each week.

    Wooooo Hoooooo Go Bombers!

  11. Randy says:

    Ken,
Yeah, maybe that’s possible. I just can’t say that because we never even saw the guy in a single playoff game. Good kid, but I just can’t say you could win with him because I’ve never seen him in the post season. Maybe we will this year.

  12. Randy says:

    Piggy,
I think with how they protect QBs and slant all the rules in their favor a QB can make a big difference. Winning championships is usually a combination of many thing. People say defense wins championships. Well, if that’s true, why is Chicago 4-5 right now with a really good defense? For me, having a really good QB doesn’t guarantee success…it just makes everything that much easier, so I want one.

  13. The Flying Pig says:

I doubt the redskins, giants kr jests take a QB
But forget about a chase young

  14. D says:

Not that it matters to me, but for those worried about draft position, those teams that were challenging us for the top spot, most of them won today as well so we aren’t much worse off in that respect than we were.

  15. D says:

Supposedly the Redskins would since Haskins wasn’t someone they all wanted. I don’t know that they are sold on him as their franchise guy. I think Giants are happy with their guy, and probably Jets.

  16. ElephantRider says:

I just dont give a shit. I must be a moron, but I never thought getting the #1 pick was essential to being a winning team.

Oh….wait…..its all about 2 QBs…..ok. Seen this movie before and it was a horror show for ALOT of teams. So forgive me for not giving a shit.
