Dolphins fight but eventually give in to visiting Bills, lose 37-20

Josh Allen had his way with the Miami defense, throwing for 3 TD’s and rushing for another. Allen threw for 256 yards hitting on 21 of 33 passes and rushed for 56 yards and a TD. Jakeem Grant did his best to keep the Dolphins in the game, busting off a 101 yard kickoff kick return to make it 23-14 before the half. Fitzpatrick threw the ball 45 times because the Dolphins simply couldn’t run the ball. Ballage continues to underwhelmed gaining just 9 yards on 9 carries although to be fair, he was met in the backfield on at least half of those carries the Bill’s defense just smothered our run game. This is the type of game where Fitzpatrick usually has either 4 TD’s or 4 INT’s, but surprisingly he finished with zero in both statistical categories. The O-line just didn’t show well, and our offense was hindered all day.

DeVante Parker had another good dayfinishing with 7 catches for 135 yards. With Preston William’s done for the season, both Parker and Allen Hurns will be the beneficiaries. In fact, the Dolphins signed WR Allen Hurns to a 2 year contract extension. TE Mike Gesicki was not a big part of the offense yesterday catching only 4 passes for 18 yards. Patrick Laird caught 6 passes for 51 yards and added 1 carry for 7 yards.

The defense was without LB Raekwon McMillan and also DE Taco Charlton. The defense looked out of sorts, although the kids in the defensive backfield continue to give strong effort. These guys like Nik Needham and Ken Crawley and Jomal Wiltz and Eric Rowe are all gamers, and even if they don’t start next year, they seem like high character guys that are good to have around.

The Bill’s are 7-3 and one of the better teams in the AFC. Devin Singletary is starting to get rolling and to have future hall of Famer Frank Gore to lean on doesn’t hurt either. They’re a better team than we are right now, but we played straight up with the them for a while in both games, with more talent infused next season, we should close the gap. There’s hope, you still see good things each week, and despite being undermanned, this team has fight in it.

GO DOLPHINS!!

    This is just bad football

  13. Ken says:

I thought Landry couldn’t score TDs

  14. manitobafinfan says:

    Oy vey

  15. stangerx says:

Worst endzone TD celebration ever by Landry. Even assuming was towards the Dog Pound.

  16. Mike E. says:

Ballage just doesn’t make anything happen out there. He creates nothing. Time to see what Gaskin can do. He sure ran the ball well in college.

  17. Mike E. says:

Our run game is so non existent, it’s too much to ask Fitz to carry the team on his back. It’s going to be a long day for us. I can see a 3:1 TOP ratio for CLE today.

  18. Tim Knight says:

I’m not too concerned about this game, we’re so depleted at this point it’s tough to compete.

  19. wyoming85 says:

I’ve defended Wilson more than is should have over the years!

    I apologize!

  20. stangerx says:

That one gonna remember about Wilson.

  21. Tim Knight says:

It really doesn’t matter who is running the ball, there is no push from the OL. Every run barely gets to the LOS.

  22. Ken says:

The sad thing about this game is that Hulk is not even getting mad. My remote is still in one piece

  23. manitobafinfan says:

    Bengals up on Steelers 🤷‍♂️

  24. Mike E. says:

Wilson is done. Last year he was magic, this year he’s tragic. I think that hip injury took away his explosiveness, which is what made him so dangerous last season. He was just taking these short passes and turning them into HR’s because he was just jetting into space so quickly. He clearly has lost that.

  25. Mike E. says:

This is my last gasp in FF, I have Parker and Gesicki going because Evan Engram is out. I got ZERO’s from both. On the flip side, my 1st place opponent is scoring heavily with Chris Godwin. Sucks!!!

  26. Tim Knight says:

That was a bit of a late call.

  27. wyoming85 says:

    Fist pump!

  28. stangerx says:

Only reason not to start Rosen in the 2nd half is if he is a broken toy. Fitz would understand.

    • Ken says:

The island of misfit toys. ‘Tis the season

    • olddolphan says:

DEAR Young Stanger: There actually IS a good reason not to start Rosen in the 2nd half; HE SUCKS and will NOT be a part of next year’s team!! –Fitzy, on the other hand, COULD actually make this a RESPECTABLE 2nd half for Miami. IF Rosen starts, we’ll lose this game by a LOT more than the current 25 point deficit.

ANSWERING a couple of questions: NO, I was NEVER MAD that we didn’t win a Super Bowl during the Marino years. IN FACT, I believe I’m the only member of this board who actually attended Super Bowl XIX in Palo Alto. I thought then (and still believe now) that Marino’s 48 Touchdowns and over 5,000 yards passing that season was the BEST season by a Miami QB I’ve ever seen!! There was plenty to be proud of in that season. BUFFALO’s 4 year reign as AFC Champions derailed what ever chance the Fins had of getting back to the Super Bowl for quite a while. The Fins’ loss to the Bills in the AFC champioship was a heart breaker, but the fact that in most of Marino’s seasons the Dolphins either made the playoffs or were serious contenders certainly labelled them as one of the top teams in the league. Like Mike E., I was proud to be a Dolphins’ fan during the Marino years. Unlike Now!!
      —————————
WHAT A SHIT SHOW in the first half. I’m hoping against hope that Fitzy can make this game competitive in the 2nd half.
      ————————–
Finally, someone on this board (Piggy??) said that my wanting Ross to fire Grier made no sense. Well, Mr. Piggy, what I actually said was that I wanted the NEXT owner to get rid of Grier. I LONG AGO GAVE UP ON ROSS making correct football decisions. So our #1 priority is A NEW OWNER, followed by a new dorector of player personnel and a housecleaning of the current scouting department.
      ——————————
My dear friend, Young Stanger, is much more favorable in his analysis of Ross than I am. Sometimes he points to the improvements at Hard Head Stadium. My problem with that is that I’m much more interested in the team doing well than I am in architectural achievements. Good team in lousy stadium works for me. Bad team in comfortable stadium does me no good at all. But I RESPECT HIS, and everyone else’s right to disagree. And I proved it by putting my ass on the line for this country.
      ————————-
NOW, let’s at least win the second half of this game.
      GOOOO-O-O Fins!!!

      • stangerx says:

OD — I at least like the stadium improvements for sure. Seems going into whatever season that is a guarantee to be there.

  29. Ken says:

    Broken toy

  30. wyoming85 says:

I’m not sure I’m happy the Offense has the ball back?

  31. Ken says:

    Gisecki scored a TD

  32. stangerx says:

Been wrong many times before — maybe they are still thinking about winning this game.

  33. wyoming85 says:

I guess I’m happy about it now!

  34. The Flying Pig says:

    Gesecki!

  35. Tim Knight says:

There you go Gesicki with your first career TD.

  36. son of a son of a shula says:

  37. The Flying Pig says:

  38. manitobafinfan says:

Jets are thumping Raiders .. apparently Gruden completely lost his shit on a ref as well

  39. stangerx says:

We’re gonna win this one can sense the shift in momentum. Disclaimer….. just in case we do so can say called it ten years from now. 🙂

  40. manitobafinfan says:

  41. manitobafinfan says:

    Great tackle by RIP

    Win or lose…

This team plays hard. Down 28 what do they do? They keep fighting.

    GO FINS

  45. wyoming85 says:

Wilkins is going to plant Mayfield before it’s allover with!

  46. manitobafinfan says:

Been some really weak PI calls today

  47. wyoming85 says:

Fitz not showing much for touch today!

  48. stangerx says:

Given the pieces to play with….. hard to complain about this team. Think Flores is a keeper.

  49. The Flying Pig says:

  50. Ken says:

That will do it. Nice effort at a comeback but dug too big of hole too early

  51. Mike E. says:

Stanger – Love Gesicki catching a TD but man am I getting creamed. Dude has Chris Godwin and Christian McCaffrey who are both close to 40 points each. I don’t have a shot.

    • stangerx says:

I’m getting killed in FF as well. Guy am against played both Landry and Chubb…. so didn’t like watching that part of the game at least. Maybe just the start of the world take over by our beloved Pig. 🙂

  52. Tim Knight says:

There are currently 9 teams in the league with 3 or less wins. Washington with a chance to beat the Detroit.

  53. stangerx says:

Hulk — still wondering why they didn’t play Rosen, even for that last season. Not a good sign…. even if just about trade value. But guess should be a good neighbor.

  54. manitobafinfan says:

    Redskins win 👍

  55. wyoming85 says:

  56. olddolphan says:

REDSKINS 2nd win helps Miami’s chances to get the 2nd overall pick in round 1.

  57. Tim Knight says:

I’ve had a horrible FF season. I’m looking at 2-10. I’m getting hammered today.

The guy who’s behind me at 3-8 is doing a tank job that a few of us are not happy with. He started Jordan Howard who was out today and a WR on the bye. He’s a long time friend of ours who doesn’t even want to be in the league anymore but he has no respect for the integrity of the league. Not the first time he’s done this in 30 years.

  58. bookman11 says:

So, I am a glass half full guy anyway, but I continue to like the fight in this team. Earlier this year, going down by 28 early likely would have meant a 40 point blow out. I think Fitzpatrick embodies what Flores is trying to instill, never give up and always fight. I think that is one of the reasons he continues to lead this team at QB. That and he appears to be ahead of Rosen.

I cant wait to see this team injected with talent. Until then I will be interested in watching Flores put his stamp on the team, including taking chances in the game when you might not expect it. I, for one, think that is a sign of a coach who wants to tell his players he will do whatever it takes to win, not one that could care less about it.

    GO FINS!!

    • stangerx says:

Does seem we got a coach….don’t it? Most important thing we could find out this year.

      • bookman11 says:

Yes, but I don’t want to get too far ahead here. It is interesting to me though, that when we won in the first year with Gase, with some “me” players on the team we thought we might have a coach because they won and got to the playoffs. Now we are losing and seem to have no “me” type players, and the coach seems to have them united.

    • Tim Knight says:

Good post! Flores is creating the culture and as new talent comes in there will be a foundation already laid out of how we do things here.

    • manitobafinfan says:

      A FULL DILLY DILLY

  59. wyoming85 says:

    Congrats!

  60. manitobafinfan says:

    Tannehill strip sack fumble

  61. Tim Knight says:

The thing I like about Flores is that he’s the head coach of the entire team, not a specialist caught up in his offense or defense. He hired guys that he knows and trusts to do that. We needed a HC like him to set the tone for the entire team. He’s big on fundamentals and all three phases doing their jobs. If you don’t do your job you’re out.

  62. bailbondmike says:

Ok Wyoming, I had to do my “Lack of Pass Rush/Lack of Running Game Draft”.

CONGRATS to ex-Dolphin Frank Gore for becoming #3 all time in yards gained rushing in NFL history. Congrats, also, to ex-FAU star Devin Singletary for gaining over 100 yards today for the Bills.
    ——–
More congrats to FAU for topping UTSA in San Antonio Saturday night. If Lane Kiffin’s boys beat Southern Miss in Boca Raton on Saturday, they will HOST the Conference USA Championship Game a week later at Howard Schnellenberger Field for the 2nd time in 3 years! The Owls currently are 8-3 with that game vs. Southern Miss to wrap up the regular season.
    ——
FIU, a team FAU defeated a couple of weeks ago 37-7, upset the University of Miami late last night at Marlins’ Park in Miami 31-24! Tough times at “The U!”

    36 carries, 65 yards, 1.8 avg

    Should be easy.

Ok, no one really cares. LOL
    So it’s:
    Ballage
    Fitzpatrick
    Laird

    • bookman11 says:

That is awesome, look at the average the last 2 games…….that’s what you wanted to highlight…..right?…….lol

    • Tim Knight says:

Fitz’s stats aren’t reflective of our running game and Laird’s body of work is too small to make any assumptions. We can’t run when we have to. I know Ballage is the whipping boy and I agree he hasn’t looked good but there really is nothing there.

We all know we need an influx of OL upgrades. It’s been an issue for almost a decade. But 2019 is a different situation. We’re trying to find keepers to build on in 2020.

  71. wyoming85 says:

    Kids these days!

  72. wyoming85 says:

That NE game would be a Ballage game!

  73. Tim Knight says:

It looks like Mariota is out in TEN. Tannehill playing pretty well. They will be looking to draft a QB as well with Tannehill holding the torch until they have their new QB. Key your eye on TEN being in the QB mix in the draft.

  74. New Age says:

Tannehill and the Titans having a really good game. Good for him. I think the Titans are the perfect team for him.

  75. Tim Knight says:

Wow JAX has basically crashed and burned after being a top contender a couple of years ago.

  76. CavalierKong says:

The oline and our running game in general suck, but a good RB will make a play at least once in a while. Ballage has no burst or quickness, doesn’t make people miss, and doesn’t run with power or break tackles except in goal line situations. I honestly can’t remember the last time he made a play in the running game.

It’s not a huge deal since we’ll definitely upgrade that position next year. I’m just tired of seeing Ballage run for 1.5 yds every time he touches the ball. Put Laird or Gaskin in. It can’t get any worse, lol.

    • Ken says:

Ballage runs like he is holding a load in

    • Tim Knight says:

Outside of a run or two it really doesn’t matter who runs the ball, there is nothing there for anyone. I’m not making excuse for Ballage either, he’s a backup to me. All of our backs are.

      • CavalierKong says:

Yeah, our running game will still be mostly ineffective, but a good RB will still make plays sometimes, which is the point I’m making.

I have no idea if Laird is a backup because he has’t gotten a chance. Might as well give him a chance.

      • Tim Knight says:

I think Laird is a role player. I don’t expect him to be a top dog. He might become a 3rd down back/receiver kind of guy. We have to draft some skilled RBs. I would love to see us draft Swift and Edwards-Helaire. That would change the entire dynamic of our running game and our offense.
