Dolphins hang on to win in OT against Bengals 38-35

I admit it. I changed the channel at 35-12. I think it was when Myles Gaskin got injured. I mean the game was over, right? It’s really not important that the hapless Bengals scored 23 points in less than 5 minutes against us. It sure did make for a more interesting ending though. Bengals fans were probably getting pissed, and I bet some Dolphins fans were getting excited that we might get a better pick in the draft. In the end a Jason Sanders FG won it and all that went away.

How about that Ryan Fitzpatrick? No running game, adequate pass blocking at best, and this guy just keeps throwing TD’s and moving the ball up and down the field. 52 pass attempts, 419 yards and 4 TD’s. Unbelievable. DeVante Parker and Mike Gesicki do NOT have the seasons they are having w/o Fitzpatrick. I firmly believe that. This guy is playing out of his mind. His escapability out there is uncanny and his running ability shocks team week in and week out. He keeps so many drives going by eluding the rush and getting positive yards. Major props to Ryan Fitzpatrick who I admittedly didn’t want to see at the helm. I had hoped Josh Rosen would be leading our team but I’m happy that I got to see football worth watching this season because of Ryan Fitzpatrick.

I don’t stress over blowing a 23 point 4th quarter lead because this has been declared a stress free season and it’s legitimately been just that. The only thing that upsets me are injuries. Myles Gaskin left with an ankle injury and his status for next week is unclear. That’s a good sign as far as I’m concerned, I thought it was bad. We’ve had a record number of players that have been on this roster so what Brian Flores has been able to do with that is impressive.

DeVante Parker. The boy went over 1000 yards receiving this past Sunday. 64 receptions for 1065 yards and 9 TD’s with a 16.6 yards per catch average. If he had more catches he’d be in some elite company. Mike Gesicki now has 47 catches and 536 yards and 4 TD’s. He’s just getting started . . . These are things that get you pumped about next season. Draft well, bring in some more talent in the trenches on both sides of the ball, and we should be on our way to being a very tough team to beat. Flores has a bunch of no-names right now. He’s done amazing things. If you bring a bunch of names in here the whole dynamic changes. It may be harder for Flores. No joking. It’s easier to get guys who want to be on a roster to play hard for that spot but bring in a bunch of big name players who believe they’re already there and it’s more difficult to keep these players lit. It will be great to have more talent but I’m very interested to see how Flores handles these new guys. It’s why I feel that we may not necessarily be looking for the big names but possibly more unsung talent. In other words maybe not Tua or Young. We’ll see.

Merry Christmas

Lol at Jax having the same SOS as us, but if they had lost it would’ve been higher. We still would’ve rotated other rounds with them. Glad they won too. All the win cost us is rotating with Car and LAC, instead of Giants.

One of my favorite things to see today;Sun Sentinel puts out article saying we won but lost out on the chance to get a better draft pick….LMAO. When the narrative you’re selling is far more important than optimism, providing facts, or just checking for the truth of your reporting. Article is 6 hours old but they are too lazy to retract. Quality reporting from the SS once again.

Not sure there’s a glaring weakness on this team, I don’t think we target any one player in the draft, we take BPA and we trade back to restock 2021.

not sure who you are referring too?
are you the representative of “others”?

Not that i give a shit but this post is what’s wrong with this place, this clown is not looking to give an opinion on football matters his whole point is to impugn others because he may disagree.

he’s a pussy behind a keyboard whom lacks any kind of intelligent response whether in agreement or not, just stupid shit in front of an online audience.

    A Character flaw for sure.

I enjoy my FB page and friends, no one slanders others, you would look like an idiot doing so, it should be the same here.

I think OL and pass rush are glaring weaknesses
    _______________________________________________

couple of new DL getting in the mix, the OL has improved, sure we draft or man those position in FA or the draft but it seems this team is on even keel thru out the roster. i just don’t think there’s a need to move up or over draft one position. keep getting future early draft picks is the key.

if you throw enough shit on the wall some is bound to stick.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don’t think we need to move up
But I don’t think we need to move down either

We can add some good players right now

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I’m sure we can but if we move at least one of the 1st rnders down we get more early picks next year and still have an early pick this year, keep using these picks in this fashion and pretty soon you will have a team loaded with day one picks.

  13. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

anyone have any opinions on the state of this football team whether that be good or bad?

please hold back the “If you’re looking for others to validate your opinions, be prepared to be disappointed.” comments.

    i’m all ears
    and thanks in advance.

  14. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I agree with Piggy on needs. OL and DL are obvious needs considering Fitz had to be very mobile and opposing QBs had a lot of time this year to find targets. 23 total sacks is terrible and our run D has been bad for over a decade.

I’ve seen Dolphin pages on Facebook. Everyone is NOT polite. Football fans are usually a little fanatical.

A lot of the people here have known each other for years and met a few times. I don’t really see any reason to change anything. It’s fairly civil most of the time.

The interactions between people are caused by the people who engage in them, not the environment.

  17. TryPod's avatar TryPod says:

    Thanks Piggy,
I appreciate the support. I do not come on here with the intent to hurt anyone’s feelings the vast majority of the time, nor do I look for conflict. If there is any confusion to what I said, I’m really just making a general statement in response to those who are bothered by media, reporters or others who say things that are perceived s “anti-Dolphins”. Why get upset by it? Why respond to it? The more people react to it the more emboldened those who perpetrate it become. It’s just noise- let it go. Now, I didn’t say they were stupid or a “pussy” for being affected by it. But again, I don’t think everything had to be a conflict or everything thing requires a confrontation to prove my bona fides. Besides, I know that I’m hardly the most knowledgeable on here.. and I usually say stupid stuff, so I have no credibility.. or so I’ve been informed.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Fair enough. I should have mentioned I was speaking specifically about external media and sources with no ties to the Dolphins or their positive perception on a larger scale.. though I do think if someone requires external validation of something that is largely based on opinion, that too can lead to disappointment.

  18. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I don’t think the team is on even keel. There is still a significant lack of talent on this roster. In particular OL, DL and RB. Fitzpatrick is a nice caretaker QB but his shelf life is limited. Our DBs are young and show promise but we need impact playmakers in the secondary. I do think we have found our HC that we have changed the culture of this team and finally held players accountable for their poor play and practice habits. However we still need an infusion of talent. Fortunately we have the draft picks and cap space to bring the talent in.

  19. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I agree with Trypod that we should not expect others to validate our opinions. That should not be seen as limiting anyone’s right from posting on this site

  22. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I expect we’ll take an RB in thus draft, but not in the 1st.

Seems like each new coach we get brings enthusiasm the first year, then it’s all downhill.

No telling what’s going to happen this time, but at least they went about it the right way, purge, purge, purge.

    • BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

I agree. I think it will depend on how fast RB’s get selected as to where we draft one. Was thinking round 3 (Moss, Vaughn, etc.) but could be earlier if they come off the board quickly.

  23. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

D’andre Swift, RB GA, late in the 1st after trading back?

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      He’s my favorite Back

I don’t think we should take a RB in the first though, unless you mean 30-32 area

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I’d take him without the trade back, but I am with you on acquiring more future picks with a trade back.
It will all depend on the flow of the draft and if there are any “runs” going on.

Often a run will start on a position and GM’s will get nervous and start taking guys that could be had later if a run at that position wasn’t going on.

  24. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Yesterday was a good closing season day, with all things considered. Beating the Cheats and them losing a bye, Pitt not making playoffs, SF beating Seattle…

I have no bad feelings going into the offseason.

Spend wisely, no record setting contracts. I expect at least 10 Vet FAs will be signed, to go along with 10 draftees. Do we have 33 holdovers?

  25. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

This is what I think is going to happen. Cincy is going to trade their second (pick 33) to Carolina for Newton then draft WR Jeudy #1 overall and we draft Burrow.

The Bills fan watched the Chargers/Chiefs game, and says with around 30 seconds left in the Fins game (around when we took the lead), the announcer at the Chargers/ Chiefs game started announcing play by play what was going on in the Fins game, right down to the end. He also said a bunch of Chiefs fans were chanting ‘Go Dolphins’ towards the end of their game, and a bunch of them had signs ready thanking the Fins.

I’ve been sitting at work with an ear to ear grin. What a great way to end the season.

  42. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Piggy,

This is the answer to our question yesterday. From Travis Wingfield’s article:

  43. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

  44. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

    CavKong,
I like how far we’ve fallen as Dolphins fans that beating a division rival to help another team get a first round bye week in the playoffs is considered a great end to the season when we used to expect Super Bowls. Lol

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

      LMAO and ouch 😉

As valid as your observation is, the context (and reality) is, after 15+ years of futility culminating in a frustrating rebuild season that included losing the first two games combined 102-10, starting 0-7, and being in consideration for the worst team ever, not to mention having to listen to tanking talk half the year, that was one of the most satisfying games I’ve experienced in more than a decade, lol.

It’s just an arrest. Everyone reporting on it is reading from the arrest report. We’ve seen arrests before where charges were never filed. In fact, it’s pretty common in domestic violence situations for a variety of reasons not worth that I don’t want to get into

Prediction: his fiancé doesn’t cooperate with the police. Charges aren’t filed. The NFL does a cursory investigation and suspends him a couple of games.

One thing about Howard not real tree d to the actual arrest

I was surprised to learn he lives in Davie

That may not mean for those of you who aren’t familiar with the neighborhood
But most young affluent people in south fla want to live a little closer to the beach
Davie is where the Dolphins practice, but it’s also west of the beach

And frankly in terms of stuff to do – Davie kind of sucks
And I know it from first hand experience growing up there

I’m kind of impressed with his commitment to be near the facility, I know that’s an odd perspective on a negative story about a serious situation

LOL, you didn’t. But if you think the dolphins front office could use all three first round picks on offensive linemen without the fans storming the Davie offices with pitch forks and torches you’ve got another thing coming.

    • Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

They just about stormed the Davie Office for the front line we have now?
Add a top Edge rusher in FA and look at it again? 😉

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

fans would still lose their minds! when we pick ONE offensive linemen in the first the fans cry about it. Three would kill the fans.

  52. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

It’s boring but I don’t mind the idea of selecting 3 OL in the first round
I kind of like idea of dramatically defining who we are in one draft

But there will be a Dolfan meltdown if we select 3 OL

Our friend Prof Lou is mocking 3 LBs (although you can argue they aren’t LBs) Simmons, Murray, Jennings

Although it’s unconventional, they are all good players and that would dramatically shape who we are on defense for years (if they ones out)

You can probably do this routine with DBs too

    3 1st rounders is unique
You can really focus on one thing to change and maybe built a dominant unit

We have a lot of holes, but we have more picks that can make an impact
And another offseason next year that will also be a big offseason

So it’s not so crazy to do this kind of thing with our first rounders

    • Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Like I said above to Rock.
Add a Top edge rusher in FA and look at it again!

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

In addition to FA, the 2nd round picks may also be good players

If we drafted 3 OL, we better draft some RBs, and the second round will give us at least 1 good one

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

It is STILL three offensive linemen in the first round no matter how many times I look at it or how many other free agents we add. 😉

Don’t have too look twice. it is the same both times… 🙂

  53. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Steve, there is an easy 35 guys who are with the team that either will be for sure here next year or that will fight it out in camp I pulled up the roster and counted as I went and got into the forties in the number of guys we should expect back. Some are because of contracts such as Harris, Ballage and Jones. Pick six Eric Rowe and Allen Hurns already got new deals.

Wow I’m surprised we fired O’Shea. Not as much with Deguglielmo who never seems to stick anywhere.

  69. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I’ve seen Caldwell call plays. I’d rather have oshea.

  70. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’m shocked about O’Shea. Caldwell was supposed to be the assistant HC this year with O’Shea on board before Caldwell’s illness derailed that plan. I’m wondering what changed between then and now. I thought our offense looked pretty good the 2nd half of the season even without a running game, and we all know how bad the oline was.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Who knows, Flores might not have liked what O’Shea was doing a month or so ago. Maybe the recent firings made Flores look elsewhere. We didn’t have a very good consistent offense, Fitzmagic played a big roll in it and playmakers made plays, lots of broken plays. Maybe that’s the reason.

  71. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

LOL @ Arians. Something tells me Winston isn’t going to be there next year.

**Bruce Arians, when asked if this team could win with another quarterback: “With another quarterback? Oh yeah. If we can win with this one, we can definitely win with another one, too.’’**

  73. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

I’m so confused by the O’Shea firing. Granted I’ve not been watching as much this season as I usually do but I was thinking he did as well as could be done with what he had to work with. What did I miss?

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

You didn’t miss anything. I don’t think any of us saw that move coming. Unless they come out and tell us the reason, any of the reasons Tim suggested above are as possible as anything else.

  74. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Tim,

I thought perhaps Flores had some issues with the scheme or something along those lines. That makes a lot of sense to me, because I was literally telling my wife yesterday there has only been a couple of times all year where I questioned the play calling or offensive sets in a game. It wasn’t gimmicky like Gase’s or ineffective like Philbin’s. It seemed like a quality pro-set.

If I felt that good about the scheme and play calling, it must be f$%^ed up, lol.

  75. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think the fact that our leading rusher was a QBs is a major reason to fire the OC

The Dolphins beat us to the punch. Usually we are all pounding the table to fire some one before we fire a coordinator

We weren’t good offensively this year
    We sucked at everything
    And our talent wasn’t good

    But we weren’t good so…l

  76. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

I hate being on the road. Takes forever to catch up. If I have it right, everyone is euphoric over the win, but we can’t post platitudes without disclaimers as to who the intended audience is. We may or may not draft 15 OL in the first round. Tua had his leg amputated and Cincy traded Burrow for a QB with one foot. Everyone is confused about the firings and are afraid Bruce Allen is secretly running the Dolphins. OD is now sporting a nascent man-crush for Steve Ross and Satan is ice skating in hell.

Better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and confirm it (This platitude is directed at no one in particular, but at anyone who thinks it is directed at them and takes offense).

  77. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Team was wildly inconsistent. Still a lot of holes from a talent perspective, but Flores has done a fine Man-Behind-the-Curtain and gave the team a heart. At this point I would rather see them draft/sign pass rushers, OL, DB in that order. No hurry on a QB….the Fitz has another good year in him.

Never been much of an air raid fan!

But it does but one of the WR on the board in the first

Judy or Lamb would look great in an Air Raid!

My first thought about the Dolphins hiring Chan Gailey was did they check to see if he was still alive?

  85. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Chan Gaikey?? Lol. Aren’t we supposed to be progressing in year two? I predict he’ll have some initial success especially in regards to the running game, but eventually his offense will get stale and repetitive and we’ll have a lot of 4th quarter meltdowns

I figured there had to be some sort of conflict between he and someone else in the organization for them to cut hair on him so soon. Was kinda shocking but after what Wyoming posted it’s in line with what I expected was the reason.

Chan Gailey as the replacement is odd to me. Definitely doesn’t seem like the direction our team would go. Alters my idea of what our first round selections might be too.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I wonder if the Gailey signing means we might be looking at a WR a little earlier

I think we can run a spread offense with Parker, Gesicki, and the 2 Wilsons
But I didn’t expect to go in the spread offense direction

there are some good people around here but how can the masses stand for a guy to sit back and take shots at posters for their football opinions? maybe some should others should look in the mirror

they should be called out and that’s exactly what i’m doing.

what has OD ever done to anyone here except show up for the fests, go to the games, not to mention the health issues he and his wife has suffered to be constantly ridiculed for his football opinion by the pussy troll and all the tiny little munchkins and around this shit hole just sit there and do nothing and some “bald ones” laughing at it.

    just pisses me off.

maybe i should start taking shots at those who stand by and do nothing about this behavior, maybe the shoe won’t wear well on the other foot.

    hell let’s all be trolls!

    phelonius is a pussy troll,

    Oh yeah, Go Chan Gailey

First smoke screen? Referring to Grier saying Rosen will be back next year. Who knows, maybe so.
Maybe we go with Fitz, Rosen, and a rookie. If that’s the case then I’m thinking a 3rd round QB in Hurts, Love, Gordon, etc.

  96. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

I would not rule out a trade up for Burrow though. His success is largely due to LSU going to more of a spread offense/Saints type offense.

  98. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

It also has me rethinking the type of RB(s) we would draft. More of a receiving back than a Taylor, Dobbins or Moss. Thinking more of Swift and Edwards-Helaire. Ballage better learn how to catch the fricken ball or he is gone IMO.
