RD1 Pick#5 – QB Tua Tagovailoa – Alabama
RD1 Pick#18 – OT Austin Jackson – USC
RD1 Pick#30 – DB Noah Igbinoghene – Auburn
RD#2 Pick#39 – OL Robert Hunt – Louisiana-Laffayette
RD#2 Pick#56 – DT Raekwon Davis – Alabama
RD#3 Pick#70 – S Brandon Jones – Texas
RD#4 Pick#111 – OL Solomon Kindley – Georgia
RD#5 Pick#154 – DL Jason Strowbridge – North Carolina
RD#5 Pick#164 – EDGE – Curtis Weaver – Boise State
RD#6 Pick#185 – LS Blake Ferguson – LSU
RD#7 Pick#246 – WR/QB Malcolm Perry – Navy
That’s some haul for one draft, 11 players in all, which is actually less than the 14 picks we came in with. So how, after having 14 picks, do we end up choosing only 11, and one of them is a long snapper??? OK, I’m going to let that one slide because I think they did a very good job addressing easily the biggest shortcoming of this team, our offensive line. We traded back once and up a couple of times and I believe we really upgraded the trenches significantly in this draft.
On the offensive line, Austin Jackson, the OT from USC is a young OT prospect who needs more playing time and lots of quality instruction to groom him into a premier LT, or RT, depending on where they choose to play him. At the moment, I think with the addition of the next OL we drafted with our first 2nd RD pick, Robert Hunt, who may be groomed to play RT, or may also be groomed to play RG with incumbent RT Jesse Davis remaining at RT. All that will be worked out in time. In RD 4 we added yet another OL, Solomon Kindley who figures to be an OG. We all hoped they would address the OL, and address it they did! All of a sudden, the depth looks pretty good, we have Julie’n Davenport and Austin Jackson at LT, Ereck Flowers and Solomon Kindley at LG. Ted Karras will be the starting C and I believe Michael Deiter will be potentially be worked at C as well. Either Robert Hunt or Jesse Davis will be the RG and the other one will be the RT. OG Shaq Calhoun, OG Danny Isidora and C Keaton Sutherland round out the depth. The O-line most certainly looks more promising.
We spent the #5 on a QB, so obviously that position was heavily upgraded. I don’t stress this lightly at all, there is no reason to rush Tua on the field, especially considering the current situation with COVID-19, and the fact that all football operations have been pushed back to the point where they will most likely end up being abbreviated. We have a very capable leader in Ryan Fitzpatrick for 2020 and we have a young QB coming off a devastating injury. In my mind I’d have Tua sit the entire year and heal up but have him compete in practice with Josh Rosen to help improve his play for next season or possibly a very late season appearance depending upon our playoff potential at that point. If we’re in contention, no monkey business, but if we’re out and they want to see a healthy Tua play, I’m fine with that if he’s 100%. It will be interesting to see if we carry 3 QB’s, I would almost guarantee we will, and Josh Rosen should be one of them.
Despite our numerous additions in free agency on the DL and LB with Kyle Van Noy, Shaq Lawson, Emmanuel Ogbah and Elandon Roberts, we remained vigilant in continuing to upgrade there in the draft. We started with DT Raekwon Davis from Alabama and added DE/OLB Curtis Weaver from Boise State. Curtis Weaver in the 5th RD was a WOW! pick. In 3 years at Boise St. Weaver amassed 34 sacks (13.5 last season) as well as an astounding (47.5) stops behind the line of scrimmage (19.5 TFL) in 2019. In RD 5 we added yet another DT/DE prospect in Jason Strowbridge from North Carolina who had an impressive week at the Senior Bowl. We came into free agency with a major weakness, and now after both free agency and the draft, we have so much more talent and potential. So many players we acquired are multiple fits, meaning they can play more than one position. It’s like DT/DE or DE/OLB etc etc. I don’t think one player will be utilized at only one spot, everyone moves around. Versatility is important in our scheme, and now we can employ it.
When we acquired DB Byron Jones, immediately you think what a CB tandem with both he and Xavien Howard. Flores loves his defense and in RD1 after a slight trade back, we selected at pick #30 DB Noah Igbinoghene. I feel like the designation DB should be used with all our guys because I think nearly all of them will be playing multiple roles. Igbinoghene looks to be a corner who will probably thrive in the slot or nickel corner spot, but he may also see work at safety like his veteran counterpart Bobby McCain. Igbinoghene is a very competitive player, very confident player and you need that at DB. Some people may look at the safety we drafted in RD 3, Brandon Jones from Texas as the replacement for Minkah Fitzpatrick, but I think Igbinoghene is as much a part of that if not more than Jones. Jones is a guy that likes to lay the wood so he may be a S/LB tweener, despite his somewhat smaller stature (5’11 200), which ironically was a part of Minkah Fitzpatrick’s repertoire.
Now what remains is to start working, see these guys on the field and hopefully we have enough time to evaluate these guys before the season starts to see how they fit best. I can’t wait to see Blake Ferguson snapping out there, I mean who can wait for that? Did we really draft a LS in RD 6? Was Tabor Pepper a problem last year? Confounding to say the least, but really, not sure why they treated that pick like a disposable pick. Did Grier and Flores both go to the bathroom simultaneously during that pick and did someone else accidentally make that pick? OK, I’m kidding but it was odd.
In RD5 we made a big move to upgrade our offense as I was probably ready to scream (OK, I WAS screaming already) where the F is our running back!!!!! Considering the fact that I was ready to pull the trigger on a RB late in RD 1 or in RD2, I was losing it that we hadn’t addressed that position yet in RD 5. The word came in that we traded our 1st of 3 5th RD picks (#151) for SF 49ers RB Matt Breida. That’s a great pick, or trade for a pick. Breida is the perfect change of pace for bruising RB Jordan Howard. He’s a speedy RB who can catch, but has had issues staying on the field. That’s the only caveat with him is he seems to get minor injuries that keep him out, missing 5 games in 3 seasons, which doesn’t seem like a lot, but considering that he was used sparingly his entire career, it’s a concern. Breida has eclipsed 150 carries once, in 2018, his most productive season. He has averaged over 5 yards a carry, quite the contrast from the pathetic 2.1YPC we’re used to. Breida had 814 yards in ’18, along with 3 rushing TD’s and 2 receiving TD’s on 27 receptions and an additional 261 yards receiving. He can help us on 3rd down as well as being a nice change of pace.
When we start making cuts after training camp (if there’s a training camp), it will be significantly more difficult to do so, as our depth after free agency and the draft is so much better. The edict was there, improve the trenches, and on that note, they will have at the very least tried their best to accomplish that. We needed a ray of hope that we have our franchise QB, and if we handle it correctly and don’t rush Tua onto the field in 2020, in 2021 we’ll have that. Ryan Fitzpatrick was a great leader, he has our guys believing and it’s no mistake that despite the quality of receivers in this draft that we passed to build the trenches. I didn’t really think we need a receiver anyway, I think we have a nice combo of young WR’s (Preston Williams, Isaiah Ford, DeVante Parker and Malcolm Perry) as well as some more veteran WR’s like Allen Hurns and Albert Wilson. It’s strange to me that so many Dolphins fans skip right past Allen Hurns, I think he may be the most overlooked player on the team, possibly with the exception of Charles Harris. (Who?). We picked up Navy QB Malcolm Perry with our final pick. Some here have suggested he can be our version of Julian Edelman. He has the wiggle and agility but he doesn’t have that insane short burst speed, which is the attribute that enables Edelman to get that quick separation from defenders, but he will probably be given the opportunity. For reference, Edelman’s short shuttle (20YD) was 3.92, while Perry’s is 4.31. That’s a HUGE difference, He may also be a gadget player because he can throw the ball as well.
I feel very pleased after this draft, and free agency. I don’t think as a whole, we could have done much better really. Sure, all of us would have liked to get this guy or that guy, we all have our favorites that went to other teams, but again, taking free agency and the draft together as steps I and steps II, we really crushed it!
GO DOLPHINS!!

Know the best part of next year’s draft? We have the Texans 1st round pick and they are going to suck. I expect a top 5 if not the number 1.
Reply
Ohhhhh hoooo hoooo hoooo,
wouldn’t that just kill the Texans fans? They wind up with the #1 overall pick but traded it away the year before!? It would be totally awesome for us. Not so much for them. LOL
Wouldnt it make them cry when we traded it to get a haul of other picks 🙂
Yeah, traded it away for the right to pay him 20M per year.
D & Steve, I don’t think they are bad enough to go all the way to the #1 pick, but if they did and we have the #1 next season and Trevor Lawrence is sitting there, What do you do?
I trade the pick to someone who desperately wants him
Trade it!
Unless the Football gods give a kick in the balls again!
FWIW (see what i did there) i dont think we get a number 1 pick from them, too many other options for shittier than them. Still it could happen and if it did, im trading.
Trade it for 5 1st round picks.
Phin Phinatic says, McCain may be on his way out. Where did I hear that before.
Just logical I guess, but I’d like to trade him at the trade deadline, saving 6M off of next years cap and getting some comp.
They say, no one is going to trade for an injured player with a 7M contract, which I agree with, and he saves us little off of our cap to cut.
McCain is at least a cut candidate in 2021 (not much worry about cap then). And we now have quality depth at DB. His contract puts him on the team this year…. but someone would have to want it in a trade.
Yeah i mentioned that before, you did, a couple more also mentioned it. The role he plays has a better player coming in there and though he does give us a pretty solid guy in the mix that can flex in and out of nickle or dime CB positions and FS, overall he is the weaker of the links we have right now in the secondary. I dont know if Noah can unseat him this year, but its coming.
Question is Brandon Jones. When they took Noah in the first think they made clear he is the 3rd CB.
I just dont have anything as far as a target that out-values trading the pick. Maybe by the time that we get there, someone will change my mond but right now, i for sure trade back and collect picks.
Noah Mahogany gives us options with McCain and X. The crop of CB’s coming out next year do too. I think X gets his chance to straighten some things up, and at least set himself up for a second big contract or get traded to a team who is thinking extension. That off field domestic thing is recoverable, but he better start walking a better line because i dont think Flores is going to want that kinda distraction, he is about professionalism, and thats not very professional of him.
If X takes a step back, or continues to get in trouble, i am definitely looking at Surtain in the first next year.

—————————————–
I think its flexible and i think thats the players they want, 3rd CB, part time FS, 4th CB, i think its open to whatever scheme they are running that game or that series.
Brandon jones for play S in packages and NLB in others. I think he is our version of Isaiah Simmons
Least as to the future think they are planning the two studs on the outside plus Noah as first CBs up. But guess Noah could be a guy to be groomed (meaning McCain at slot) and Brandon Jones a stud. But for sure they are flexible. Gonna be a nice dime formation on the back end.
Man, Quincy Enunwa – That dude can never stay healthy
Why are you guys so quick to cut McCain? Chillax!
He’d have to be traded, but I’m not quick on it at all. Thing is he is the only one possible out of the DBs. Two stud boundary CBs, Rowe was just signed , and the other two just got drafted high. So McCain is the “there can only be one” in this year’s game of Highlander (Phins secondary edition). 🙂
Rowe will primarily be a safety. McCain can get work at slot, nickel and dime back as well as safety. You have to have at least 3 good corners, and having one more good that plays multiples is not a problem.
steve is the one who brought it up. Not saying I agree , but a possible with McCain. But then lots of possibles out there. Unless we trade him thinking McCain will be our starting FS.
He makes too much money, and he sucks at FS. We could let him play nickel, but we have a better option. He should Wilson it and take a paycut.

Yeah i dont really want him cut, im just saying he is the new weakest link. Doesnt matter how good you are, you are probably some combination of player’s weak link, in this case he is our starter DB group’s.
We’ll find out eventually what the coaches’ vision is for McCain.
On his ass.
You gotta love it
Wow #1 for Tua.

NOTICED that the Dolphins organization is giving Don Shula some love on the new black jerseys. But the most appropriate gesture would be to name the park “Don Shula Field at Hard Rock Stadium.” As I stated earlier, Joe Robbie lost large amounts of money during the Dolphins first four years of existence. Had Don Shula NOT turned the franchise into a winner the very first year (1970), there’s a VERY HIGH PROBABILITY that the Dolphins would have relocated to either Birmingham or Tampa in 1971 or, God forbid, 1972!!
———————
DON SHULA literally saved the Miami portion of the Miami Dolphins!! I hope that, somewhere in Steve Ross’s heart, he can find a way to make “Don Shula Field at Hard Rock Stadium” a reality.
I love the idea of making DS a permanent part of the Dolphins uniform. He is interwoven into the very essence of our beloved Dolphins franchise a la Lombardi with the Packers.
The 10 for 10 to start the draft you guys pulled off was a once in a lifetime thing. It’s better than good. No trades is what made it possible. How often are there no trades in the first 10 picks? But that is just what made it possible. It still took good knowledge from you guys playing to pull it off. Look at all the other mock drafts (hell go back over the last 5 years and look), has there even been one mock draft that started 10 for 10 like you guys did? I bet not… Kudos.
The reworking of Wilson’s deal is really great for us. It gives us more cap room, put’s Wilson on a prove it deal and if he has a good year, he gets paid. I think it shows he wants to be a part of what we’re building down here, and he is a team player.
Likely it was “we’re either cutting you, or if you want to be a Miami Dolphin, we can try to rework your deal”. Just speculation, but it makes sense. Kudos all the way around. I hope he balls out and earns a nice new contract.

OK, KONG, I need you to put on your thinking cap.
WHICH will happen first?
ANOTHER PERFECT SEASON IN THE NFL, or
PICKING the Top 10 draft picks in order in any given NFL draft?
Lol, fun question. I’ll go with picking the top 10 correctly will happen way before another perfect season does.
TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU, KONG.
Next season (2021) the NFL introduces a 17 game regular season. Plus 7, not 6 teams will make the playoffs THIS SEASON. That means 12 of the 14 playoff teams will have to play 3 playoff games to GET TO THE SUPER BOWL. That means you’ll have to go 21-0 to complete a Perfect Season UNLESS you are one of the two teams that are seeded first in their respective conferences. But THOSE TEAMS would STILL have to go 20-0 to attain perfection. NOT going to happen!!
OUT for tonight.
Marino explained that he didn’t meet Shula in person until after the draft, so certain were the Dolphins that the quarterback from the University of Pittsburgh would be selected long before their pick at number 27 overall.
“My first memory was coming for minicamp,” Marino said. “(It was the) first time I met him, I walked into his office and the funny part was before the draft, I never talked to Coach Shula, none of the scouts or anything because I didn’t think they thought I was going to be available for them to draft me. So the first time I really talked to Coach Shula besides on the phone draft day saying, ‘Hey, how’d you like to be a Dolphin?’ was in his office coming to minicamp.
“I remember it was a little intimidating because it was the first time you’re meeting a head coach — a guy that was so successful — but I do remember what he told me was, ‘I want you to come in in good shape, be prepared, prepare yourself this summer as if you had come in to be the starter,’ and he made an impact on me right away that way. He believed in me. He was like, ‘I believe in you. I want you work that way so you can come in and compete and actually feel like you’re going to be the starting quarterback.’ That just gave me a lot of confidence right off the bat. That was my first meeting actually with Coach Shula.”
Shula also recalled that 1983 draft in a wide-ranging interview he did with Sports Illustrated’s MMQB a few years back.
“Marino keeps sliding down and we can’t figure out what’s going on. And it gets to Pittsburgh before us and Pittsburgh passed him up and he’s from Pittsburgh. We were going to take a defensive lineman and Marino was on the board. So I said, ‘We’re taking Marino.’ Our defensive coach said, ‘No, we need this defensive lineman.’ I said, ‘No, we need Marino.’ ”
Shula and Marino worked together for 13 seasons, from 1983 until Shula’s final year in 1995. During that time, the Dolphins won five AFC East titles and made the playoffs seven times.
“I had nothing but respect from Coach Shula and how he was as a person,” Marino said. He helped me as a player, but he also helped me (learn) how to develop as a human being. Coming to Miami, I was 21 years old and just to watch him and how he handled the press, how he handled his business, everything he did as a person in the community, all of those things you admired as a young guy and he taught me all that. From that standpoint, yes, I’d say he is a mentor.
“I think I always had that relationship with him. He always was there to give me advice, to take care of me when I needed it and after he retired, he became a really good friend and someone that I enjoyed being around.”
So the big reveal is over eh? #1. It’s fine, usually a kicker though. Hopefully he kicks ass!
It’s different. I think we all want a lot to be different with this team. 🙂
Can’t argue with that!
Really hoping our new OL along with Jordan and Breida get our running going. It shouldn’t be difficult to improve on last year.
Can’t believe Tua took TD’s number
What a jerk
The disrespect!
Who does he think he is?
I hear Hawaiians can speak to dolphins, maybe he asked and got permission.
Can he speak to the dead?
Think you are thinking of Flipper, TD is alive an well though his age has him a bit outdated looking, kinda like a bad acid trip version of a dolphin.
Garo is dead, that’s who he needs to speak to.
TDs?
Garo, will always be #1.
LOL @ B.A.T. Dolphin
For Christmas 1970 my brother (42), sister (1) and I (39) all got jersies for Christmas. The #1 always got the most comments at games.
Before each kickoff a guy in the next section next to us would hold up a Garo sign and rock it forward, as the upper deck sections around him would scream Garo, Garo, Garo until the kickoff.
So the #1 brings back good memories.
Tua TONGUE-a-Vai-LOA, Tua TONGUE-a-Vai-LOA, Tua TONGUE-a-Vai-LOA #1
Looks like Mike is doing a jet style cheer T U A😉
Dolphins Fight Song! (Really the Houston Oilers Fight Song)
Not the Oilers fight song. A Dolphins fan wrote the song, tried to squeeze money out of Joe Robbie, but when Robbie told him to go F himself, he sold it to the Oilers. So it will forever be our fight song.
Let’s hope Tua has a better QBR than Garo!!!!!! 😉
Over the Cap has fixed our cap #, after the lowering of Wilson’s contract, to almost 29M.
I can’t stress enough the job our FO has done in a little over a year, since the end of 2018 season. From the gutting of the roster, to acquiring draft capital, to signing Flores, to FA, to the draft, and now to the Wilson contract.
I have to give Ross credit too, for saying he wanted the rebuild.
And maybe even the fans, for accepting it.
That 29M also includes front loaded contracts. Add another 5M to our expected cap space of 80M for 2021.
I don’t remember the source of the 80M number, so it may even be higher.
Are we still paying Suh? lol
I’ll give you props on Suh, Mike. Right from the beginning you said, you don’t pay a DT that kind of money.
I know you’re JBB, but…
No, but we are paying about 21M to Jones, TJ, Minkah, Kiko, and Stills. And 2 M more to guys released this year like Taco and Harris.
$12 Million in dead money this year. Steve’s dyslexia kicked in. None showing for 2021.
Schedule should be released thursday 8pm
Tua will wear #10 so hurry out and get your jerseys.

I wonder when training camp starts? That’s very important to starting the season on time

I still dont agree with the dont pay DT’s that much, they are probably the most important position on the field if you ask me.
Well on Defense.
I disagree. Maybe a guy like Aaron Donald who disrupts the passing game so much, but even then I don’t think so. You pay QB’s, DE’s Pass rushing LB’s, OT’s, but you don’t pay interior lineman as much, either on D or O
The Ringer has an article, breaking down every AFC teams offseason moves, we’re the most improved, jets are most work left to do, the cheats…
The Patriots apparently said goodbye to their quarterback this offseason. Maybe you’ve heard of him.
If one more U75 makes this lame ass Brady joke…🤔
Jacksonville consciously chose to tear its roster down to the studs as newly reinstated general manager David Caldwell institutes a full-scale rebuild. A.J. Bouye, Calais Campbell, Jalen Ramsey, Marcell Dareus, and Nick Foles were all shipped out in the past 12 months, and franchise-tagged pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue is likely the next to go.
I haven’t heard tank for Trevor yet in Jax.
Do you have to say Tank for anything in Jax, they tank every year for no reasons
Fournette is supposedly on the block too.
Speaking of guys who are potential trade for guys, i heard that TB might move OJ Howard. I think id be in on that if the trade value was there.
Mike, i guess we just have a differing philosophy on defense then, because to me it all starts in the middle on defense, flushing people to the outside id flushing them to your tacklers and making them run 25 yards to get 3. Pass rush stats, tackle stats, etc dont really interest me, they make the defense work, without as strong inside, you cannot have a good defense. Also, if those two guys are studs, there are now 4 other positions that dont have to be, so 4 or 2, seems to me id rather find and keep those two and pay them than try to pay the other 4 positions to keep that same level of quality.
That said, you pay the ones that give you that, but also pass rush, Suh was a guy who did that, pressure and pass rush from internal, etc, but the ideal that no DT is worth that kind of money have been proven false a bunch, McCoy, Geno Atkins, Vince Wilfork, Reggie White, Sapp, Kennedy, Donald, and yes Suh. Those guys who can both clog the middle AND pass rush, get paid, and they should. Im not saying you cant do it without the stud DT’s just the working class ones, but it limits you and you dont replace one of those guys int he draft very easy, they show up maybe once every 5 years.
Also, good QB’s can avoid DE and OLB rush, they step up in the pocket, but when they fail its because the DT have collapsed the pocket from the front so there is no where to go.
No running lanes, no passing lanes, no pocket, DT DT DT 🙂
And if you don’t have a tackling machine at LB your run game will suck, when your stud DT gets doubled.
As the Rams run D did with Suh and Donald.
D – I guess it depends on the state of the team. The way I felt about getting Suh is that he wasn’t the missing piece that could put us over the top. We weren’t close enough for that to be the case. It made no sense to me. Maybe in a year or so if we’re playoff contenders and we’re a player away from being the best, you get a guy like Donald and pay him because he elevates your team that last notch. When we got Suh we were meh, and we were still meh with Suh, and then again w/o him.
Now that part is true, it wasnt the paying Suh that much that was bad, it was that we, as you said, weren’t that one piece from completing our defense. So we essentially paid a guy to come in and be the disrupting force than he fully couldnt be because they just tripled teamed him. He actually did amazingly good at getting pressure, etc for what he was up against. It was like buying a Lambo while the house we were living in was falling to pieces around us, wtf good id that fucking awesome car then? Thats no car to live in when your home;less lol, you would be better off with a mini van.
We have been Meh with all of the different players we have brought in, nothing has elevated us, its because the players werent the problem, it was the coaching.
steve mentioned it, but did we discuss the Wilson redo? Long way from a $9.5 mil base down to $3 mil. Was saying we should either sign him long-term or cut him….. but what happened suggests his health is really in question. Or at least would be for any team wanting to sign him. Since only under contract this year, He’s in a true Show It year.
Is that a good thing or does it mean our receivers suck.
Huh? What do our receivers have to do with these 4 QBs in 2019? I don’t get it.
Drops
They list QBs whose receivers dropped the ball in 2019. The Dolphins don’t have a QB on the list in 2019. In don’t get it.
So a lot of people are running wild with their theories of what the restructure was for, do you think they did that so that they get their cap down for a nother potential FA move (a lot of saying Clowney, he’s like buttah, but imo that train has left the gate) or is it just so we have extra cap for next year?…..talk amongst yahselves
What wild theories are there? Mine is that he wasn’t worth the money he was on the books for and didn’t think he could get too much more elsewhere.
I think you make this move, because you have leverage, not, because of an outside factor.
I don’t see Clowney, even though it was reported, being on their radar. He doesn’t fit with other moves made and the philosophy of the team.
Read a predraft article saying why we could make the playoffs this year, from a national guy.
Been seeing mostly positive reports about the state of the team for a change.
A lot of that is because in NFL circles they like what Grier and Flores are doing. A lot of people think Flores is the real deal as a HC. Many were shocked he got last year’s team to be that competitive with the roster we had.
I agree Stanger, i said that during draft that we might take a WR to replace Wilson, and Perry actually has a lot of the same skillet he just isn’t as straight-line speed kind of fast. I could see the writing on his wall, and maybe he did as well and why he agree to take a pay-cut to stay here at a price more reflective of where he is, and now what we hoped he would be when we signed him to that contract.
Still it was more food for thought, kinda question, is it a move to make an additional move this year before the season, or is opening the books for something next year. Clowney is the only name im seeing thrown around right now as a why they may have cleared up some room, not a preference, just a report of that, and since there havent been that many subsequent rumors around it, it probably means it was just to get the books in a better place and be paying for what you have not what you hoped.
They paid Wilson less cause he was worth less. That’s just smart management. We might make moves still , but the money we saved will only be there cause we did.
The Suh signing was bad timing. It was before we had other areas of the team set which never happened anyway.
We didn’t have the right people to put it together either, it was an all around dysfunctional mess.
Yep! We’ve had some good players over the year but never built a good “team”.
Let’s hope that shit it over. LOL
I’d love to use the Wilson money to sign oj Howard or just trade albert for him. We still need another weapon grade TE and we have the admiral to replace Wilson, who I like, but …
Really like OJ Howard….. but have a feeling Brady will want two good TEs as well. Especially with his arm strength not what it used to be.
I doubt we doing anything further with Wilson, before the season starts. He could be a before trade deadline trade, but he’s a guy we need and at his current salary is a bargain.
I keep seeing people saying we need more weapons at TE and I’m not sure why after we saw Gesicki break out in the 2nd half last year. That said and I’m not really sure about this, but the word on the street is that Gailey does not put a high focus on the TE position in his offense. What I’ve heard recently is that our plan is a spread offense to force defenses from stacking the box and then utilize a power running attack. Adding Howard and then the focus on the OL more than hints at that.
However I do think we’ll continue to utilize Gesicki’s skills as a receiver because we have him.
I mentioned that recently, but hasn’t sunk in yet I guess. When someone says something here it doesn’t seem to mean a whole lot until others agree.
I agree on the importance/critical to have a push up the middle and it’s valuable. Tannenbaum was a dick. He wasn’t about building a team nor did he have a plan. Really?
Wondering if going to more of a power running attack with some new big bodies up front if that will help Ballage’s skill set which is more power than quickness in zone concepts?
Of course, but why would want to keep a blind RB, when seeing ones are available😉
LOL that’s what I mean. He’s more of a get it and go back, not a read an react zone guy.
I think Gesicki is a weapon, too, and Fitz exposed that. I hope Gailey has a place for that in his O. Fitz will use it if he does.
I think Gesicki will continue to lineup wide much of the time as opposed to being an in-line TE. Not that he won’t line up on the line like a traditional TE but I see him being part of the spread receivers.
I can buy that.
I like that that as he can high point any ball on a LB or any DB anywhere on the field.
Yes!
Just get him the damn ball. Fitz would find him.
I don’t know any the intricacies of Gailey’s spread O, but wouldn’t a seam threat TE like Gesicki work?
Yes, it’s just not a TE heavy offense. It’s going to be an RPO system especially when Tua takes over. That doesn’t mean the QB runs a lot, that’s a QB’s choice. It means the QB either hands it off based on what he sees or pulls it back and throws a quick pass to the vacated area where the defender bit on the run. Obviously you don’t run just RPO, but it will be a staple.
Ok….makes sense, but use your talent. Sometimes scheme needs to adapt to your weapons.
Yes and Gailey has been known to do just that.
I’ve read a few times on different sites of concerns about running Tua, but like you said, RPO doesn’t mean you have to run your QB. The Foles/Pederson Eagles RPO is a perfect example of that. Not a running QB, but they ran mostly RPO very effectively.
Now that we should have a decent running game, I’m curious to see what this offense will look like. Should be exciting.
Wasn’t Gailey an OC here once before? If so, i don’t remember much if he was.
Yes in 2000 and 2001.
D, the Eagles RPO was mentioned as one of the reasons to move towards it. Flores saw how effective it was in the Super Bowl and how it challenges defenders.
https://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/20200428/what-tua-tagovailoa-chan-gailey-dolphins-offense-might-look-like
Remember how Tannehill would run the RPO with us, if he saw the DE on the weak side bite on the run he’d pull it back and run around him sometimes in a vacated area for as much as was there whether a 1st down or if there was even more open field. But he’d do that maybe 2-3 times per game as opposed to Lamar Jackson who will take it and run a dozen times.
https://www.ganggreennation.com/2015/1/14/7545199/everything-you-need-to-know-about-chan-gaileys-offense
from 2015 jets page. FWIW
I read that awhile ago but that’s from a fan site.
yeah, that’s what I meant by “jets page” that it was a fan site article.
I know. It’s like using Phinsiders for in-depth intel. LOL
Guys, we don’t know what Gailey will call, especially with Flores driving the boat. I the past he ran more of a spread offense. Those of you that are hoping for a ground and pound O you are probably going to be disappointed if you go by history.
Not old school ground and pound but remember how we ran Lamar Smith into the ground in 2000 and in the playoff win against the Colts? That was Gailey’s offense.
THAT was also our LAST playoff win!! Jay Fiedler beats Peyton Manning!!
Lamar Smith beats the Colts.
Gailey’s offense is designed to spread it out in the passing game to setup the run. If we have a lead we will try to run to win.
Regardless of what type of system we run on offense, it still comes down to trench play – blocking and execution. You don’t win with trick plays all day. You pick your spots. Football is still pretty simple at the end of the day.
A big reason Flores hired Gaily is because he’s a very good teacher. He felt O’Shea was a bit overmatched. With a young team you don’t want overmatched, you want experienced, especially with your new potential franchise QB. Teach and coach them up!
Agree.
That’s a good point Tim. I can see that.
Without an oline, nothing works. Was gailey with wannstadt? Yuck.
Yes but we won a playoff game. That was the last time.
We did? Was Ricky on the team? Or was that BRW.
Lamar Smith 40-209 rushing and 2 TDs.
Wow….2000, 2001! Different world for me, different times. There was this black out time for me and football (Dolphins). Some call it life.
Go get’em young big man!
Lol…I down 10 to go.
Kindley a team player
I envision him as our RG even though he played LG at Georgia
I don’t get switching sides. Is it doable, yes? Is it best to an individual’s tendencies? I would say no.
TIM: Comment for you below your 6:25 post.

Today’s medical report: BOTH ME and MRS. OD had appointments today with the team orthopedic surgeon for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Both of us suffer from injuries to our left knee.
MY REPORT: The MRI revealed loose fragments of cartilage plus some arthritis in various areas of the knee. Since I’ve only needed 1 dose of major medication over the last 8 days, the doctor concluded I should try to get by “as is” with the help of some over the counter meds. If things get intolerably worse, he’s recommending a left knee clean-out procedure, which would cost me to miss 2-3 weeks of work. I probably STILL would have residual pain from arthritis, and I might need some rehab therapy. Since I’d already decided to follow his advice, I decided to try to get by “as is.” He also told me that getting a reservation for an operating room is tougher since so many rooms are reserved for coronovirus patients. “But I could probably get you a room in about a week, should the need arise.” he said.
MRS. OD’s report: Her Left knee is a bit worse than mine. She’ll require a surgical implantation of a special gel to take care of a “bone-on-bone” situation. First, they’ll see if our medical plan covers this procedure. Then they’ll order the gel. If all goes well, her left knee definitely will be better than mine!!

Neither one of us are bitching or complaining. Both of us feel lucky to have access to world class medical care. But I’m here to tell you that things tend to be somewhat different when you hit your mid-70’s. A positive attitude and a determination to make your life better will combine to make your later years BETTER YEARS if you use your noggin and make good life choices. –An acquaintance
of mine who is nearing 80 told me he quit smoking in January and started eating more fresh fruits and veggies. “What did you do with the money you saved by quitting smokin?” I asked him. His response, “I’ve gone from 2 to 3 glasses of bourbon a week,” he gleefully responded!
————————
Where’s my Colorado Kool-Aid??
I know, I had already mentioned our last playoff win.
All we want is to see this team get back to a proud franchise. Do it in the name of Don Shula. I think Flores will instill that into the team especially because of the timing. But it will alway come down to him, his coaches and the players. Talk is good, walk is better. 🙂
I’ve got one for you! If you can’t find yours! 😉
A positive attitude and determination……you got it OD.
Mrs. K got to see her grand K for another 4 years.
THANKS for your replies, Wyoming & Krishna. Tomorrow night the NFL releases the 2020 schedules. Hope the Fins open up AT HOME against the Cheatriots!!
GOOD NIGHT to all!
WHERE’s a Pie in the face hit-man when you really need him?
Oh my I get it! Pass to score, run to win, play defense and Special Teams. Eureka!!!! LOL
Sounds easy when you say it fast Lol
And pass to setup the run.
When looking at QB game film before the draft the thing that popped for me was how much quicker and accurate Tua was than everyone else, perfect fit for the Gailey O.
A week later news came out saying we were interested in Herbert, and I said smoke screen, based on this film study.
Here we are a month and a half later, and this RPO stuff comes out, and I can see why Tua was the choice.
RG3 couldn’t really throw, but had good numbers based on freezing the pass rush with his running, then hitting wide open receivers.
Tua should really thrive in this offense, and the RBs should too, especially Breida with his speed.
Talk up the page about fitting an offense to the players, but looks like this O really fits. I don’t think they’ll have to fit Gesicki in, because he lines up wide often enough.
Grant, if he doesn’t have a career year they should just release him, but I expect him to be fun in this O.
Grant is fragile it’s his only problem.
Part of me feels like Gailey was brought here because of Giseki (I forgot how to spell it again) not because he’s a TE but because of the downfield weapon he is.
Wearing #1 takes balls, that’s a good start.
I do find the one to be a strange number when it’s not a kicker.
Lots of competition for punt returner this year. Some of the DB’s we got are returners and of course enter Admiral Perry to the mix. They’ll be looking for ways to get him touches.
I see Perry as PR and Igbinoghene as KR.
Those short guys make the best PRs, but not so much KR.
I’d like to see the, whatever league that was that just ended, rule for kickoffs. The kicking team all on 35 of opposing team and kicker on his own 35.
It’s a strange thing for us fans. We know Fitz starts off but we know Tua is the future. Rosen is like really, where do I fit in? Hmm… think the team invested in QB?
We’re all going through a weird time.
Though they’re not the same people Kyler and Tua, it is the same investment. It’s about what they can do on a football field.
Like Saban has said about Tua, don’t go the extra mile when nothing is there. That’s how you’ve gotten hurt. Live for the next play.
So I didn’t get to comment on the Facility openings yesterday!
If I’m reading this right it won’t matter that Miami facilities could open up, they wouldn’t be allowed to because of NY / NJ (and anyone else still on lockdown) won’t be opened?
Yeah, that’s totally fair. They can’t have some teams practicing fully and others not at all, that’s not competitive balance. No team should have that advantage. Imagine if the Patriots were the only team allowed to practice . . .
Get ya’lls shit together! 😉
Krishna i think they already signed Tua as well.
4 yr 30.3M, but he hasn’t signed yet.
This virus is worse than ever, 20,000 people a day or being infected in the United States!
I think it’s premature to open up this country. Too many people are dying
Wait till the murder hornets get here, you won’t be able to leave your house.
I heard about them, I think they’re in Washington state. Didn’t they come from Asia?
Of course they came from China. They send us their very best!
https://twitter.com/NaturelsMetal/status/1258249812106973184?s=20
If you open the country more people will be infected and more people will die, if you don’t open the country or is a lot of people who don’t have money to buy food because they are unemployed.
I really don’t see 60,000 people crammed into joe Robbie stadium in September
Wyoming, you posted about drops yesterday. I believe we were worst in the league. Fitz had 31 drops but if you add in Rosen’s our total is around 45. I remember counting about 6 drops in Rosen’s first game.
Ya, it was pretty bad in a couple of the games!

There hasnt been a day that low since it really started going, up that number by about 10k and you are more in the median of the graph.
Right npow we are up and down, but the median seems to be about 28-30, we did have a coupel of says in the 24’s recently so that was encouraging but then they jump back, so we havent at all reached a stable flattening of the curve, just a bunch os around 30, with a couple spikes and dips thrown in.
I could see several of the seniors this year wanting in the supp draft because they would have declared last year if they knew this might affect their senior season, whether they accept that as an application criteria though i dunno.

I was just researching the Mruder Hornet the other day, another Asian infestations that killing off our natural species go bees, specifically honey bees. They decapitate the bees before flying their bodies back to their hive to feed their young.
Wyo – I have that post with the Praying Mantis on my FB page. I love that shit. Now I need to find a place to buy a few hundred of those. Not sure if it’s still a law, but I remember as a kid there was a big fine if you killed a praying mantis
Nature always has the answer!
Most of the time you don’t want to hear the question!!!!!!
To me the question has been for very long time been, as the human population grows, has quality of life gotten better or worse?
Humans are the only species to over think the obvious and logical, we are a doomed species. The more “evolved” we get the more we over think shit.
Murder hornet kills 50 people a year in Asia, I doubt that compares to covid 19.
Im not comparing it to covid 19, i am comparing it to the Asian lion fish thats eating up all of our natural species of fish in our waters, or the Asian snake species right now killing all the deer and alligators in the everglades, etc.
Put a $100 bounty on them!
And the “rednecks” will take care of the problem for you! 😉
What they will do is catch tje queens sterilize them and release them back to the hive to eradicate them
Well good luck to those guys doing that, those hornets sting through bee keeper uniforms and they describe the stink as a feeling of having hot metal piercing into your body. They also say the queen is upwards of 2-3 inches long.
I doubt these guys will be wearing bikini underwear when they go out and collect these wasps.
Asia, the land where the gifts they give keep giving and giving…..
Could technically call out Africa for that shit too, since i believe HIV/AIDS and Ebola and a few others started there.
Killer bees came from Africa too
If i were these Franchises id right now be fucking on it to get something worked out with the NFL to broadcast all of their games on like a Sunday Ticket like Channel, if they wanna make even more money they could include the press conference footage and the different private interviews and they could make a killing with fans who eat that kind of shit up. Especially with the quarantine, this would be a way to experience things remotely but even more fully than before.
Sell access like a really cheap seats ticket, a virtual seat experience if they wanted to.
It should always be that way to be honest. NFL should be available a la carte. You can buy whichever game you want whenever you want. If you purchase the entire season with every game, the price is less. If you just want to purchase your teams games, the price is less than the whole package, but more per game by far. Then like you said, they could sell pregame and post game interviews and press conferences too.
I’d be surprised if there was an NFL season this year
I have been leaning towards we will have one, even if there wont me much of an offseason, but im starting to feel like people are acting too dumb for us to have it under control enough to have it. We have the technology to do it all without creating a risk, but it will not be the same and might not generate the revenues they need to justify it. I hope they figure out a way to do it, i think football is a sport we really kinda need right about now, but its going to be a significant investment and a significant change to get that all done by the time the season rolls around.
I still see a praying manti at my mom’s places over here in Mississippi snapped a pretty decent picture of one not too long back, was a female and a pretty big one.
Especially with the country opening backup, it would seem when we do that it’s gonna get much much worse.
It will if people dont realize the difference between “opening back up” and “back to normal”
damned if we do and damned if we dont
I agree with the damned comment Orob.
We should just open back up everything, buyer beware, if you’re vulnerable, then quarantine yourself. Why should anyone that’s at risk depend on someone else for their well being and why should anyone out of a job that isn’t at risk have to be put in that situation, because someone else is at risk?
You cant believe a word either side us telling you.
Yall hear about the kid down in Georgia that got basically hunted down by these two guys because he matched the description of a guy who was doing some home burglaries in the area? They literally hunted the dude down, one of them shooting from the back of the truck while the other engaged him with a shotgun in the road. Given, full details aren’t know, and its not known if he indeed was involved in the burglaries, but thats shit is fucking how vigilante justice can get out of hand. I dont think i have ever seen anything like that before, he’s fighting one guy in the road while the other dude in the truck is just steadily taking shots at him and then eventually you can see it catches up to him and she stumbles and falls dead. Fuckin nuts.
I saw the video. They father with the hand gun in the bed of the truck never fires his gun. The son with the shot gun fires it three times while struggling with the victim who tried to run around the pick up but then attacked the son when he felt the guy was going to shoot him. The shot gun fires once while off screen, again on screen while they are fighting over the gun and then a third time hitting the jobber in the abdomen.
His family says that he was just out for a jog.
The 911 call says something like “there is a guy running through our neighborhood. The operator says pretty much “yeah, and is he breaking any laws” the caller says we have him on camera in the neighborhood before. “Is he breaking any laws” We are going to stop him… or some such.
The guy in bed of the pickup (father of the shooter) is an ex-cop from the area. Two prosecutors have recused themselves because they know the father.
It is a travesty of justice. Thank goodness someone caught it on video and released it the other day.
The shooters lied and said they had pulled up next to the jogger. (they were stopped up the street and already out of the truck when he got there) and then said that they fired the gun twice. (the video proves it was three times)
Only way what happened is even close to right is if they were chasing the guy cause he had a committed a crime. And if so that hasn’t come out. Was in the middle of the day.
AFCE plays plays AFCW and NFCW this year. That the AFCE represents 4 of the top 5 hardest schedules and we all play each other twice makes those west teams all that more impressive with their win percentages.
We thought last year had some hard games, but it turned out to be a cupcake schedule other than a few games.
We knew going it what kind if schedule we were going to face. SF and KC will be tough, we don’t know about the rest, but injuries will play a part.
yeah, the SOS is based upon win percentage they year before and we all know that teams turn over and change every off-season so the SOS changes as well.
Some times I think Brian Miller at PhinPhanatic .com reads us. We were talking about this yesterday and then today he posts this.
https://phinphanatic.com/2020/05/07/miami-dolphins-chan-gailey-could-effect-mike-gesicki-in-2020/
This story y’all are talking about . . . Now I have liberals posting on my FB feed that THIS is why Colin Kaepernick took a knee! Ugh!!!!!
well, it is. Sorry you don’t like reality MikeE, but blacks do get unfairly treated. it’s not a liberal thing it’s a fucking FACT
Hold on a sec Rock – No question about it. But please don’t make Colin Kaepernick a hero because of this. There is a lot of racial and ethnic tension out there with out a doubt. I just don’t want the wrong guy getting hero status.
Yeah not even comparable or linked, also not enough ifo from an edited version of the video to really know for sure, way more investigation to come, but i personally dont care, vigilantism is illegal, and mostly due to over reaction being strong in victims and protectors of victims, who many times get it wrong, and once they make their OOPS how to they make it right? They cant. I myself have advocated for vigilantism in certain cases, usually ones involving children, but seeing it first hand is pretty damn scary.
Thats the problem with politicizing a tragedy, the tragedy takes the background while the agenda steps forward, so getting anything real done fo correct the problem usually falls to the wayside. First comment i saw that kinda ticked me off was Lebron going, oh i guess we cant even go for a job in our own neighborhoods anymore. I mean come the fuck on, you dont even know what your coomenting about right now, take some time, figure it out and come back with something useful and not a regurgitation of some sorta media hyping.
The two white guys who attacked the black jogger have not been arrested. If it was two black men who stopped and shot a white jogger they would have been arrested on the spot.
** Unarmed jogger
Are they not being detained? I heard they have been detained, and thats what two black joggers would be, you can be detained for any potential involvement, but no one is officially arrested until they have grounds to believe your guilty.
Nope, no charges no arrests.
The state is saying they are considering forming a grand jury to investigate but the courts are closed in GA until June because of the virus. If it were two black guys, they would be in jail waiting for a grand jury, not at home with their family.
They should both be shot and pissed on until they die. That’s terrible what they did. You missed my point entirely above.
Right like the 18+ year old black kids that beat up the handicapped boy, then kidnapped him or the stuff that happened in NYC to the cops.
Fucking what-about-ers
You can discuss one thing without having to “Whatabout” everything.
THEY ARE BOTH WRONG!
Then don’t bring up the if it were 2 black guys. You should look at some statistics, the way things are talked about on this subject aren’t accurate.
So this is where technicalities come in. If a black man is taken to the police department, is he arrested? I ave seen a lot of true cop stuff and nothing they do within the first few hours is an “arrest” its detained for questioning, generally in cases of a domestic, all people close tot he victim are detained, so they detain anyone who had direct involvement, right off. If those guys didnt get detained, then something is really wrong, if they did, they they got exactly what two black males shooting a white person would. People call it different things when the police take them into custody but its not an arrest until the DA says to bring them on an arrest warrant and thats significantly into the process.
Also, this is already a homicide investigation, and these guy are already guilty of homicide, they just haven’t determined if it would be ruled justifiable, so they should be in detainment right now, minimum. They have committed a crime, ya see what i mean? Even justifiable homicide is homicide, its still a violation of the law, when cops kill a person on active duty and justified, its a homicide and they have to go through the investigation process as well. They literally have to turn over their firearm and be detained like a potential murderer.
No one really cares about the technicality during duscussion, if you were taken in, in handcuffs its assumed an arrest.
The technicality comes in when you try to get a job or other situations where you’re asked, if you’ve ever been arrested.
My point it, it cant be “detained” for one person and arrested for the other, so technicalities do matter when you are labeling things, otherwise you can stick the wrong label on the wrong action.
No one would do that D🤔

————————————————
Even that, if they chose to chase him down and it ended in death, without him having a firearm and them bringing one, they would be guilty of manslaughter. There was no stand your ground law in effect there, they werent on their property, they were on a public street chasing down an unarmed man. Just like with the Trayvon Martin case, its not tha t the guy wasnt guilty of murder, he just wasnt guil;ty of the murder they tried to convict him of, he would have been found guilty of manslaughter but the fuckers too manslaughter off the table because they wanted to go for the kill on murder 1. That was a huge dumbass move by the defense attorney, because they had him dead to right on that conviction.
sorry prosecutor
Wild west is over, you can’t take the law into your own hands.
GA has a law that makes it legal for Citizens to make an arrest. However, they must witness the crime being committed. Citizens cannot make arrests on suspicion of a crime so either way, these guys broke the law and should have been at least detained IMO.
D — black dude had two armed bubbas (seen a pic?) chasing after him in a pickup truck. What the heck would you have done? And no indication he did anything criminal.
Thats why interjecting race and politics into these things is bad, it immediately divides the country and it makes it harder to get unity on a solution. If there were not color specifics in this, it would be looked like as a situation where that shouldnt have fuckin happend, it would be it should happen because blacks are treated unfairly, really, whats the leverage tere, whats the point, it shouldnt have happened period, same deal on who does more crime black on white white on black, does it matter here? No it doesnt its stuill just as fucked up, but meanwhile while everyone if arguing over the black and white of this issue, some kid is dead some mother is crying, two families are ruined, and the world just put another brick on the hate train.
Seriously, want a lesson on equality, read articles without listenign to the things they two in for flavor, like religious affiliations, color of skin, male or female, sexual orientation, and just read the article, and see how ya feel about it. To me, i see two guys literally hunting another guy, then killing him in the streets, i mean shit minus all the other bullshit, isnt that enough to be disgusted by?
BTW Rock – Just a funny thing I noticed that made me laugh. I know how you hate the what-about turnaround argument, but on FB if I haven’t seen a hundred times “Well Biden may have done this once, but what about Trump grabbing pussies and has at least 10 women that have filed complaints”. It made me laugh and I thought of you immediately.
Its the sign of a weak argument of your own, imo because you are trying to use another personas weak argument as grounds why you can have yours lol.
Schedule rumors say we’re going to open on the road at SF Monday night.
They should be in a jail cell right now period. Minimum that should be happening is them to be detained for the maximum allowed by law until they can get more details, arrest would follow the investigation. Again, its clear as day imo they committed a crime, and an arrest also seems pretty cut and dry, but get them in, detain them, get their side of things, do your investigation, arrest them on the crime thats an absolute, ie if there are laws for bransishing a firearm in public, you got them on that for sure, put them in jail for the lesser while ya work on the other. They for certain violated something and should be in jail. IMO its homicide, they took the life of another, period.
Back to foot ball
Thank goodness!
