Miami Dolphins 2020 Schedule

So the schedule is out, and as per usghe, speculation and wild predictions ensue. I’ll be perfectly honest, I have no idea what in the heck to expect from this season, and not just from a Dolphins perspective. Rookies are learning from video chats rather than person to person instruction. As far as that’s concerned, I believe these kids should be fine in that regard, this is how they live their lives, this will not be shocking or difficult for them, they will learn just fine this way. The difficult part will be not physically practicing, because camps won’t open until it’s deemed safe enough for ALL of the 32 teams to be able to open, which is completely fair. This is a league built on parity after all.

This year one of the schedule highlights is playing against the NFC West. That is a rough division, headlined by the SB runner-ups, the SF 49ers. Every team in that division brings a different but similar challenge. The 49ers and Rams are built very much alike, strong defense, and run the ball effectively, don’t ask to much from your QB. The Seahawks have Russell Wilson and despite what plan they have, they always seem to lean on Wilson too much, even with their multi-headed RB attack, which by the way is again similar to the 49ers. The Arizona Cardinals bring a unique challenge with QB Kyler Murray, who is a true dual threat QB. The Cardinals acquired All Pro WR DeAndre Hopkins from the Texans and in the draft, snagged LB Isaiah Simmons, two players who should have a huge impact on their team.

Of course we play our division twice each, and while the Patriots look ready to fall off, you can never count out Bill Belichick, even without Tom Brady. Who knows, maybe Stidham is ready to run that offense more effectively than the nearly 43 YO Brady. The Jets and Bills are both improving and will be looked at to challenge for the AFC East crown. Will we be there with them or they will they be chasing us, or will we once again fail to even hit the .500 mark? I love what we accomplished in free agency with Van Noy, Ogbah, Lawson, Roberts, and our entire draft haul, which was quite good, that’s a whole lot of new pieces moving together. We did what we had to do to fill spots but unfortunately COVID-19 is going to hamper us because we do have so many new people, far more than any other team in our division and likely the entire NFL. We just Chip Foose’d our roster, Overhauled it! With a minimal amount of practice that our players will probably have, that’s unfortunately a huge disadvantage compared to a team that possibly added 3-4 new starters. We could have potentially 10 new starters (Jackson, Flowers, Karras, Hunt, Howard, Lawson, Van Noy, Ogbah, Jones, Igbinoghene, Ferguson), plus add in a big mix of rotation guys that are new as well. If you compare that to a team that has the same moving parts except for a very small few, you have to give them a leg up at least early on in the season due to familiarity.

All I know is, whatever form and whatever length, whether it’s a shortened 14 game season or a full 16 game season, I have never looked forward to watching this team as much as I do this season. I think there might be some growing pains, but I expect a steady improvement as the season moves on. It’s going to be exciting folks, whether Tua starts or not. You all know I don’t think we should rush Tua in, but whatever they decide I’m in 100%. I’m just being cautious, and we have a good situation with Fitzpatrick to be cautious. On the other hand, if there’s not one medical reason to keep Tua off the field and he shows he’s better than Fitz for our team from the get-go, than I’m down! No matter what, there’s a whole lotta guys I’m aching to see in action this season!

GO DOLPHINS!!

I WOULD HAVE voted for the Chargers from my home computer, but I didn’t get a chance to do it.
I would LOVE to see the FESTERS watch as TUA out performs HERBERT by a comfortable margin!!! Maybe, by then, all you guyz who thought TUA was “Going to Redshirt this year” will start chowing down on crow.

Smart. I just saw on the news that a diner in North Jersey is using their parking lot once or twice a week for drive-in movies. That, or we kayak out to one of the sandy islands were you can also keep to yourself.

AS I WAS posting Miami’s pre-season schedule I noticed a couple of teams that have NEVER won a Super Bowl. So I decided to try to remember ALL the teams that have NEVER won one. I immediately rattled off 11 of the 12 non-winners. For some stupid reason (age?) I overlooked a very obvious non-winner, the Arizona Cardinals. However, in my defense, the Cards did win an NFL title in the late 40’s when they were located in Chicago. If we’d have had TV in Canada in the late 40’s, I MIGHT have watched it. Our first TV didn’t arrive at our house until 1953.

    Chargers
    Minnesota
    Buffalo
    Atlanta
    Carolina
    Arizona
    Jax
    Cleveland
    Detroit
    Houston.
The last 4 on this list have NEVER even been to a Super Bowl!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He’s going to have to play STs to make this team. He’s not a QB, RB or WR at the NFL level. In fact has he ever played RB or WR? But I love his instincts and I’m sure he’ll give it everything he has. I think we drafted him because he’s a good football player and a high character guy to see if any of his skills translates to the NFL.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Nothing wrong with that. However we have a lot of them.

I think the NFL and specifically the AFC East is in for quite the surprise in Miami. If we’re only 5-11 again or worse I’d be shocked. Maybe we don’t make the playoffs but I don’t see us getting blown out in a few games like we did last year. I think we’ll be in just about every game. The roster has been upgraded significantly.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The schedule would be the only reason we don’t exceed 5-11, but who knows what the schedule will really be like at the times the games are played. QBs could get hurt, teams have setbacks or whatever, but barring that this schedule is tough.

Buffalo Bill’s ranking the QBs in the AFC East. Why didn’t they do it the last 20 years?

  49. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

It went a little under the radar

But Austin Jackson didn’t miss a game in his sophomore and junior year at USC and started every game at LT

He actually appeared in every game as a freshmen but I’m not sure when he became the starter
It looks like he didn’t miss a game in college

Is there a better trait for an LT than durability?

  50. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

    Regarding Malcolm Perry:

Any Div I guy who rushes for over 2,000 is certainly worth a flyer. Plus he was 1,000 plus each of previous two seasons. Granted, their option offense was set up for that… he reminds me of Ajayi in terms of “production with concerns”.

What is interesting is that he had zero receptions his senior year.

I have a feeling Flores is gonna look at ways of using him to spread our offense out when needed, and away from our ‘developing’ OL. 🙂

  51. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Danny Woodhead was about same size as Perry and managed a 4 ypc career with his best years in NE (2010-2012).

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Woodhead scored 3 TDs against us the last time I went to a game in SD. I think Danny weighed quite a bit more.

  52. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Tua vs RT hand size. Tua 10 RT 9, big difference and should secure the ball better on sacks.

  53. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I just hope Perry makes the cuts. I think you guys are a little too optimistic about him.

  54. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Woodhead was just about 200 and he ran 4.38.

  55. D's avatar D says:

Zero receptions for a QB isn’t a great stat 🙂

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

22 catches for 470 yards in his career, all catches Sophomore and junior years.

Another example of using stats to deceive.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Oh so he has caught passes. I don’t know a lot about him. Was that as a WR or RB?

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

That wasn’t directed at you D, but at the comment itself.

Watching Perry’s highlights I remember seeing him catching passes lined up wide, some could’ve come from RB, either way he’s pretty good catching the ball and would be a good YAC guy.

  56. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Steve, it’s kind of funny, we all spend so much time speculating about the draft and our last pick 7th round is getting the most discussion time. LOL

    It’s kind of cool though.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

It’s because of the “X” factor he could bring to us, if he pans out. We all loved Jim Jensen, the Giants fans loved Dave Meggett, these types of guys get it done at the most opportune time, and break your opponents back.

On a larger scale, McCaffrey does these things too, but Perry will never be that, just pointing out guys that are winners and get it done, when the game is on the line.

  57. D's avatar D says:

It was a joke. Rhino posted that he had zero receptions, and I knew what he meant but QB, receptions, as in pass completions are receptions, ah oh well. Y’all miss the smiley?

    • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

yeah, I mentioned the zero receptions because up the thread there was a discussion about him making team as ST/WR. I just think they drafted him as as RB who can throw rather than a QB who can catch. 🙂

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

He can do it all, the question will be, does he have an NFL body? I’d say no right now, but we should be able to put 30 LBs on him in a year or 2, and he shouldn’t lose any speed or moves.

    That’s why I picked him.

I always pick an ‘underdog’ to root for to make it.

He is my pick this season.

    • D's avatar D says:

Well he has one of those hard to classify skill sets and its one of those lets see what they can get out of this guy things, he definitely is a intriguing prospect, because there are so many ways they could potentially use him. Like i said i see our version of Taysom Hill, so yeah im pretty excited by the pick too.

  59. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

That guy up the page who did the “film study” of Jackson really does sound like the narrator for the honey badger video. LOL Honey Badger don’t give a damn.

  60. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

In one of those we better have been the best categories:

The Miami Dolphins clearly have improved their roster since the end of the 2019 season, and longtime NFL exec Gil Brandt put their offseason as the best in the league.

We had the most to spend, most top draft picks, and most top picks. Anything less would be failure.

  61. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Next offseason McMillan and Godchaux are the only notable 2017 draft picks that might hit free agency. Ford and Tankersley are the other 2 still on the team.

So still looking good on the resign front.

My boss is pushing for us to all come back to the office. My county is still in “Shelter at home” mode, but the state is open. I can do my job equally well at home so I told him so.

      • herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

I think that’s part of the reasoning. We haven’t had any issues working from home. If going back to the office means staying in our own office/door closed, wearing masks etc in common areas, why do it? Not sure when I thought it would be but the end of the year wasn’t it.

      • herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

  64. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

For me when looking at tackles, I want to see how they do against speed rushers, can they hold up to the bull rush, is their balance good, can they pick up free rushers, and can they push the pile on running plays. There’s other things like hand play, but that’s getting more granulated than I care to get.

Austin fairs very good in all of these, his weakest would be his run blocking, it’s good, just not as good as his pass blocking.

Others from the top 4 drafted didn’t fair so good against speed rushers, actually 3 of the 4, only the GA LT was good.

Mekhi was by far the worst pass blocker in space, but he’s so big it takes a while to get around him. He’d be good in a quick passing O. His pancake blocks in the run game are impressive, but he seems to cut block too much and sucks at it, with his slow feet.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

My boy will do just fine. At least I hope he does . . .

      • D's avatar D says:

Yeah i had him out of the first round as an evaluation because of his feet/footwork. He will probably be find in a more pure run based system, but he isnt that impressive of a pass blocker, and despite run offenses being a important part of making the whole offense work, passing game is the more necessary part of your offense. If not then you have a severe limitation when playing from behind. A run based offense HAS to have a great defense.

  65. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

  66. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Herd – That’s great. I think it’s going to be a very common trend, more workers working from home. If people are just as productive, offices can get smaller and spend less on supplies while their employees work at home.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

If you post twice about costs doubling, do they quadruple?

    • D's avatar D says:

I think costs have gone down, but then again i commute a lot further than most (about 45mins each way). But the cost of me not going out to eat every day, and the cost of my gas, wear an tear on the car, and god knows what other miscellaneous expenses i had travelling really have made up for it.

That’s what I would think. It also must be nice to wake up 20 minutes before you have to work. I went in today and I was up nearly 3.5 hours before my workday started. I shower, eat breakfast, work out and then iron my clothes for work

Gov Cuomo was talking about people/businesses leaving NY, he said, in the brick and mortar days it was harder to leave, but now you unplug your computer and you’re gone.

He was talking about rich people leaving NY for more tax friendly states, leaving NY $2B less on tax revenue.

LMAO, so my company opend phase 1 of returning to work on campus and they put up these signs that said 6ft social distancing, etc. Well the fucking sign they have put up, for some reason the stick figures arent the same color int he diagram, so it looks like they are saying stay 6ft away from people who are the opposite color of you lol. What a fuck up.

Only a few of those. All are pretty cool states….. only one has the Dolphins though. Hence why FLA is the best of all. 🙂

You missed his point, he lives in TX and is from Wy, so don’t move to those states, go someplace else.

I thought he was asking why does FL get so much credit for no taxes….. but could be wrong and he doesn’t want any of us where he lives. And based on the crew on this board you are probably right. 🙂

Watching the market today has me convinced that the stock market is an emotional creature. The Dow is up almost 1000’s point today. Mostly on news that a test of a vaccine showed promise. (it was tested on EIGHT people….) The covid situation has NOT changed substantially. A vaccine is still many months away and the economy WILL continue to suffer, and most likely a increase in cases is on the way. There is no logic to the market going up 900 points today.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

You don’t get it. If you had your money in the stock market and are waiting for the right time to put it back in, you don’t want it to go up, but may be afraid you’ll miss the ride back up to where it was, so at some point you get back in.

For those in, they don’t want to get out, for the same reason.

Bottom line is the people out are more likely to get back in right now, than those in looking to get out, therefore it’s on an upward trajectory. If some real news comes out like we’re closing the country until 2021, then it will go back down, because those in would be more likely to get out…

Um, I think I get it better than you. You made my point in your reply and didn’t even realize it.

they may be AFRAID they will miss out. FEAR is the emotion that is driving the market up and down. Fear that you will lose money if you don’t sell and fear that you might not make money if you don’t buy.

There has not been a miracle turn around of the economy. Companies are not suddenly doing better and most will not recover from this easily. There is not some giant rush to re-hire the 32 million laid off in the past two months.

the reasons I list above are not emotional reactions, they are facts and the market should be driven by facts not how you feel about facts.

The point is the companies that make up the DOW are NOT doing better today than they were Friday. To disconnect the value of a product from the product is silly and that is what is happening.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

(That and fuckers who manipulate and play the market for a living are doing just that. Day traders. Drive it up sell, short sell on the way down, drive it up and sell,

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The stock market usually isn’t driven by rational things, it’s more perception to get ahead of the curve.
