This game is much more than Tua vs Herbert, I’ve just become fond of the mirror image bookend windups of both righty and lefty QB’s together. Don’t get me wrong, both of these players will play a large role in the game, but right now the Dolphins defense is an equal shareholder in the outcome of this team. I mentioned this the other day and I think this information is still sinking in. Half the season is completed and our Miami Dolphins are in the top 10 in offensive scoring (10th) at 27.8 PPG and 4th in defensive scoring at 20.1 PPG. We’re plus 61 in point differential. We knew this was year 1 of the rebuild after the tear down and I can’t imagine that any of us expected this type of result so quickly.
Emmanuel Ogbah has been so impressive this season. He has more sacks at the halfway point of the season (7) than he has had in any full season. His 13 QB hits are 3 away from topping his season best in which he started all 16 games. He’s playing 76% of the defensive snaps and is on pace to equal his rookie year of playing over 800 snaps. The thing is, it’s not just Ogbah, everyone is making plays. Ogbah has started them with the strip sacks in back to back games but Andrew Van Ginkel scooped up one fumble and ran it back for a TD and then the next week it was Shaq Lawson with the scoop and the fumble recovery TD return. Elandon Roberts has made some big defensive stops. Byron Jones and Xavien Howard have been balling although last week Howard struggled all day. Eric Rowe has been playing very well along with Bobby McCain. Big Raekwon Davis, Zach Sieler and Christian Wilkins have been money on the defensive line. If I asked you which Dolphins DB has the most passes defensed I’d be willing to bet nearly all of you would guess wrong. It’s Eric Rowe with 9. BTW, Shaq Lawson is just one shy of Ogbah with 12 QB hits. You don’t hear his name as much but he’s getting it done.
The 2-6 Chargers come in 17th in offensive scoring at 25.6 PPG and 21st in defensive scoring at 27 PPG and they have a -11 point differential. This Chargers defense was supposed to be better with Joey Bosa, Melvin Ingram, Denzel Perryman, Kenneth Murray etc. The Chargers recently traded away safety Desmond King and now have the duo of Rayshawn Jenkins and Nasir Adderly. The Chargers defense hasn’t been what they expected but their offense has been humming despite the running back carousel of Austin Ekeler (IR), Joshua Kelley and Justin Jackson. Ekeler is the most explosive of the crew and he’s been on IR for weeks. The Chargers are now featuring RB’s Kalen Ballage and Troymaine Pope due to injuries to Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelley. WR Keenan Allen leads the team in receptions followed by WR Mike Williams. No longer does that dominant TE control the middle of the field (Antonio Gates). Still, QB Justin Herbert is having a fantastic rookie season completing 67% of his passes with 17 TD’s and only 5 INT’s and 2146 yards passing.
For our Dolphins, the hope is that Matt Breida will be healthy or we’ll see the committee of Jordan Howard, Salvon Ahmed and Patrick Laird. Ahmed looked to have some giddyup while Jordan Howard ran like he had a blocking sled tied to his waist. Ahmed had 38 yards on 7 carries and a long carry of 19 yards. Breida is questionable with a hamstring injury. WR Preston Williams is on IR with a foot injury sustained on his TD catch against the Cards. There’s a chance we will see WR Antonio Callaway this week as he makes his long journey back to an NFL gameday roster, his last NFL action was 11/3/19. Jakeem Grant was more involved in the passing game than usual and he stepped up. Tua now makes his third NFL start, his 2nd at home. I would think the small crowd will be in a frenzy. I just hope we can keep up the good work we’ve done the last 4 games.
GO DOLPHINS!!!

Lol at Tua making his 2nd NFL start, as if the Rams game didn’t count.
Wow Steve, thanks for the assist. You’re a great guy!
We traded for RB DeAndre Washington, he sat out last week for covid protocol, but may be available this week.
I haven’t watched Herbert close enough, but from what I’ve seen he moves the ball between the 20s with the greatest of ease, and where most of his stats come from.
I believe his issues are in close quarters, when the going gets tough. He’s used his legs to get out of some of those situations, but his inability to read a D fast enough causes indecision and where he fails.
He had some issues with his mechanics early on, but things like the left arm chicken wing doesn’t seem to be a problem now. He still has accuracy issues from time to time though.
Nice article Mike E
Thanks Ken!
We used to say our QBs don’t seem to have open receivers like other teams, but when Fitz came in it didn’t seem to matter, he’d just throw the 50/50 balls or back shoulder. This was great, but I believe caused Fitztragic at times.
Watching Tua he seems to have a knack for knowing presnap, where the coverage is going to lean towards, then postsnap where the coverage is focused on, which allows him to throw to the correct receiver. His accuracy also helps with guys with less separation.
Tua has been perfect so far, 5 for 5 I believe, getting TDs in the redzone. All of these qualities are why he wins and doesn’t just put up big numbers.
Here’s what the stats get wrong, you take your team down the field 4 times, kick an FG 2 times and get 1 TD, and 200 passing yards. The next guy takes his team down the field thrice gets 2 TDs 1 FG and has 100 passing yards.
The other part of that is what you did on the drives that started inside your own 10, did you get the initial first down? If not your opponent likely is going to get points. Helping your D out in these situations is a must, but isn’t reflected in the stats.
2a
The Chargers had a potent rushing attack, will be glad to see Ballage, instead of Ekeler and others.
When we’ve had a better or similar team to the Chargers, the last 20 or so years, we’ve dominated them in Miami. I don’t expect the same on Sunday, unless our D controls the game.
Nice article mike
Flying from the left coast takes a lot out of teams
Sorry Mike, should’ve started out with great job on the article. Loved how informative the Chargers info was on state of the roster.
I don’t need a “great job” if you don’t believe it to be so. You could just send me an email or just tell me here that I made an error and what it was, that would be helpful. I woke up early and got an article out there so if I fuck up, give me some help, don’t fucking laugh at it. Not a lot to ask really . . .
I was just making a joke, but shouldn’t, because you obviously put a lot of time and effort into it.
Steve, not a big deal, it just rubbed me the wrong way. I’ll get over it. lol
I do believe DeAndre Washington should be available.
Last 2 years with Raiders 3.6 and 3.8 ypc avg… not too shabby. Just couldn’t find touches in that loaded KC offense, especially after signing Bell.
He might be a pleasant surprise. Give Ahmed some reps too. Either way, having Washington could be a great move going forward.
I’m more worried about WR this week. I guess Hollins will get more than one touch this week (?)
or its TE heavy, which I am actually fine with. Gesicki needs 6 or 7 targets imo.
Do you really think 3.6 and 3.8 is really not too shabby? I think it’s pretty shabby, unless it was for the 2019 Fins.
There’s 35 players, a couple of QBs on this list, with at least 4 ypc (4.0 is my standard for being decent). Gaskin 3.9. To qualify you must have 6.25 attempts per your teams games.
“shabby” is Howard. 🙂
Mix it up rushing and receiving and get the ball to the guy with the hot hand or mismatch.
Grant has been under utilized ever since he was drafted, he needs to be put in the game plan each week. I’d try to get him 7-10 touches per game, including some rushes out of the backfield.
I noticed last game the lack of dump off receivers 2a had.
Thanks, Mike. I always learn something. I think you’re spot on this week.
Hope their isn’t the typical Dolphins-play- down-to-their-opponent’s-record letdown. We need to keep our foot on the gas. Lot’s still to improve on.
I’m worried about a letdown this week. I’m still not comfortable yet with the Fins meeting and exceeding expectations, lol.
Because we’ve played a bad team and didn’t blow them out, like the jets and jags?
This is a different team, it’s not your preFlores Fins.
I didn’t say that. I said I still expect the worst, because, you know…more than a decade of ‘it’s different now’. It’s visceral, not logical, lol.
I didn’t say that either.
Thanks Krishna – Appreciate it.
I’m still waiting for all those slants to Grant, Perry and Bowden I predicted two weeks ago….
This would be a good week for it.
Does seem with Williams out it is time for all those guys to get some more looks.
I’m still waiting for Gesicki to be a TE monster. Either he’s not getting separation or he’s just not a focus in this offense. If it’s the latter, what a waste. I could see him killing it with a team that really tried to get him the ball.
He’s had some strong games, and some not so strong ones. My guess for him right now it is mostly how he fits in with what Tua likes to do on the field.
The best TE’s rarely have those 2-3 target days. Guys like Kelce, Kittle, Ertz, when they’re in there and healthy, they get a steady diet of 8-10 or more targets a game. Not saying Gesicki is as good as those guys but he never will be getting as little work as he has now.
Good read Mike E!
Thanks Wyo!
I thinks BBM has talked about everyone but Hubbard?
I think our team is going to be ready to play, no letdown. That doesn’t mean we’re going to win but I don’t see us having games where we didn’t show up for a full half of football. I’m thinking (hoping) those days are behind us. DeAndre Washington isn’t really any better than anyone else we have a t RB but if he knows what he’s supposed to be doing he’s another body at RB. Wouldn’t be surprised if either he or Howard is inactive though if Breida is OK.
Good news!
They weren’t at the pool?
LOL – Only Garrard was at the pool
Lol
They had 5 assistant coaches there making sure they weren’t.

You know, I didn’t even give the team credit for playing (and winning) last week without 5 assistant coaches. They definitely have improved in leaps and bounds with adjusting on the fly and having their shit together!
Great job on the article Mike. It’s nice having a coaching staff and a team where we tune in to see how we are going to win, instead of tuning in to see how we will lose.
Thanks!
LOL @ only Garrard
Was there a new article? Let me go back up and critique it. 😉
You’ve been slacking as my editor in chief!
well, I don’t usually even read the article. I go straight to what the Knuckleheads have to say about the article (or more often some random subject) LOL
Totally shucking the exact duty of the editor-in-chief!! Damn you!!
Best article Mandoh! has ever written. He says a number of people in the organization are on board with going back to the old uni’s, they have to get Ross on board. This needs to happen!
A plea to make Dolphins throwback uniforms permanent. And why they’re not

Another fine job Mike E!
GO FINS
Thanks ER! How goes it man? I hope well for you and the Mrs. and the restaurants of course too.
Mikey, did you go to a beach recently, because your vagina seems really sandy today…… 🙂
Right?

Or those guys should be fired because they made zero difference in how the team did.
I’d prefer to go with the former. In the past, any big obstacle was just an excuse for us to lose, it seems we’re past that.
I don’t know why exactly, but this touched me deeply.
Ill have to get on my phone because this image is blocked through work, but im guessing its a priest lovingly embracing an alter boy from your reaction.

Pretty much how nice they are is why it is a punchline.
Good write Mike!
Thanks Tim!
Wyoming, yeah, I started to mention RB Hubbard a few times. He is a homerun threat for sure. In fact, he could possibly give Etienne a run for his money at the combine. At 6’+ you would think he would be a little bigger, (I think he was listed at 205, not exactly sure). He doesn’t have a whole lot of juke in him and he is an upright runner kind of like Ballage. Many of his long TD runs were through gaping holes and many times untouched.
He has that homerun speed that makes him interesting and when he gets to the second level he could be gone. We already have a speedster who we can’t open lanes to get him to the second level in Breida.
I want a back who gets serious yardage after 1st contact. Javonte Williams at 5’10 220 forced 17 missed tackles his last game. That is the type of back I want.
Watch Hubbard running vs Williams. Hubbard’s pad level stays high at contact. Williams gets his pad level real low at contact which allows him to break many tackles and always be falling forward for extra yards.
Like I said before, I want a bruiser. You won’t find more complete backs in rushing, receiving and pass pro. Najee Harris/Javonte Williams 2021.
UNC plays ND on 11/27 and UM on 12/5. Those will be good games to watch Javonte Williams.
LOL, see my reply to Stanger.
LOL! Now that’s funny!
If you haven’t been put Amsterdam on your bucket list….. am sure the folks there would laugh at the jokes on them.
D is the first letter in Dick.
Dutch as well

Great story about the Dutch. Nice people, the moreso because they aren’t Norwegian.
LOL@Tim. One of my favorite Austin Powers scenes…

My car never breaks down. I simply won’t allow such nonsense.
Your car works better than the ones I’ve had. Accident proof as well? 🙂
Fuck, just read that Wilkins and Van Noy will be on COVID-19 list, out Sunday!
That’s what I was thinking earlier.
Stanger – There are so many places I would like to see, I’ll add it to the list.
Based on where I’ve been up that way….. Amersterdam is a must add. Germany wouldn’t put on the list, but nothing wrong with it either. And — Cav will like this — Norway is boring as shit.
LOL
https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Fuuuuuuuuuck
That sucks!!!
Stanger you had a much different Norwegian experience than I if you thought it was boring.
Spent 4 days in Oslo with the best man in my first wedding and his wife, who he followed there for love. Found the architecture bland, the weather even in late summer chilly and the people nice as heck but bland as well. Maybe a place to live, but would much rather be at a place where something else is going on…. including interesting rather than oh so polite conversations.
What about it worked for you?
Maybe it was the babes. 😉
Could be. The women were pretty, but a lot less blondes than was expecting. Maybe that is Sweden and Iceland.
And Finland.
Stanger – I started a couple hundred mile above the Arctic Circle. In February. Norwegians below the circle call it the Moral Circle. Say no one living above have any. I found the guys couldn’t hold their drink and the girls were very, very friendly. Then went to Bodo found a blues bar and discovered what the girls do when all the men are out on the rigs for 6 months. Nothing boring at all.
Ah ha!!! I was right. LOL
So Tim was right….. was about the women. And glad you had a great time . My mistake was not hitting above the Moral Circle, but then was with my wife. So not sure would have had as good a time as you.:)
So…Cleveland vs Houston. One team we’re fighting with for a playoff spot, the other we have their first two picks. This game is a win-win, or a lose-lose depending on the type of person you are. So who ya rooting for?
Personally, I’m rooting for Cleveland. Give me the better draft picks, and we can still beat out the Browns.
Browns still have Titans, Steelers, and Ravens on the schedule. So, yeah, I think I’ll cheer for them anyway. We can beat them out for a spot if we take care of winnable games.
When 5 assistants were out last week, I had been dreading that it would spread to players. It lawys does.
We can expect a breakout among Cards players soon ….
This team is really going to need to find ‘next man up’ on defense. wow.
Been watching all the hype today on sports shows .. Tua vs Hebert … even a couple of the guys on First Take picking Fins as their “dark horse” SB team.
We need Henry and Tanny to give us an assist tonight.
LMFAO!
Not sure it’s hate, but for sure, he’s mocking him. “Hey Omar….” Fuck you! If you read between the lines.
What is this about?
Omar has been being Omar about the Tua drafting!
Not sure, but Tua is laughing at Omar, imo.
Why? Doesn’t everyone on this blog know why?
Don’t follow you, Wyo.
Wyo, seriously he’s criticizing us drafting Tua?
He’s never liked the Tua pick!
Oh so when did that change? Wasn’t he part of the tank for Tua brigade?
Maybe because I don’t read his opinions much anymore. I just go to these guys for info. these days.
Young Guns!!!!
So far, imo, he’s read the field fairly well, especially in 2 starts. Playcalling and strategy have affected both games. His first was or should be an outlier for both reasons.
He made plays to win the second game, he didn’t need to do much in the first nor was the game called that way. Apples to oranges.
He showed up. Fucking awesome.
Been reading some Dolphins tidbits and I saw that Davis is at RG. What happened to Kindley?
Germany its about the time of year you visit. Go during October when they are sucking up to the Americans who seem to think beer is the only reason to visit Germany…..it isn’t, they also have beautiful women!
Germanic and Scandinavian women are very beautiful. Not all of course just like with any other ethnicity. 😉
Nice write Mike E … thinking with the late start will nullify some of the “ west to East” advantage .. really hoping Breida is up and can recapture some of the magic he had in SF last year ..
Really want Ballage stuffed … also looking for Gisieki to step into Tuas sights as “ the Big Target” while PW is out …
No one beats the Throwbacks !!
Can chargers also wear the powder blues ? Or no ?? Would make for a really cool vibe watching …. love those jerseys as well
Go Fins
Dang, I didn’t even realize it’s an afternoon game. Ugh. I hate 1 PM start times.
4 pm
Not for Kong.
Sorry, yeah 1 pst
So if I understand the COIVD list correctly, we might not lose those players for Sunday. We don’t know if they tested positive or were just in close contact. If they were just in close contact, they might still play Sunday. Right?
This is from July, so I’m not sure if this is accurate, but I’m trying to find a schematic that expresses the exact flow protocol.
K let’s try this again ..
Based on the 5 day rule above , and Matt Stafford was subject to it last week I would lean towards it still being correct. But wtf do I know 🤷🏻
Tua calling out Omar makes me like him even more
Test
if a train leaves a station and travels at an average of 15 miles per hour, and another train leaves another station 20 miles away at the same time and averages 20 miles an hour when will the trains pass?
Always hated algebra. Lol 4 hours would meet if travelling same direction
Wow hulk having a strange relationship with Breida in FFB LOL
Kong
That covid flow chart reminds me of this
LOL
People were just forgetting how much they enjoyed criticizing Omar
Then he started in on Tua and here we are again…
Looks like they don’t hate each other
Everyone hug
I feel nauseated now.
Need a Titans win tonight
Because we want separation in the south? There is only one game difference between them right now. if Colts win and we win we are all still 6-3 but we will have a better AFC record.
Isnt it better for our playoff chances if the Colts lose?
Yep
there is one game difference between them and they play again in 2 weeks.
Yeah….but what’s important is one of them will win the division
And one will compete for a wildcard
So you root against the one with the worst record in both games and that increases our odds to get a wildcard spot
Tanny lobbying for a face mask and 15 more yards LOL
I don’t remember Tannehill making passes like that for us
He did
He also ended plenty of them with strip sacks and fumble ruskie plays where only he was in on it being a fumble ruskie.
Lets not deify Tanny just because we weren’t getting the same results out of him for the first 7 years of his NFL career. Just be happy for him and the success he is now having and not pretend that he was doing all these things for us, because he wasn’t or we would have been equally successful.
Well that was a nice drive.
“Really want Ballage stuffed …”
Thats an odd taxidermy request, but Christmas is coming up so……..
Lol
There has not been an incomplete pass yet.
9th pass finally incomplete
So Rock, how do you feel about that elite career? He ended the game so strong…. come on bro. Like i said, I’m happy things are better for him there, but he isn’t elite, he didn’t magically show that we were all that was holding him back. He has played well in a system that doesn’t rely on him carrying the team and thats great, wish we could have done the same, but you are full on hindsight mode.We are in the place we need to be, he is in the place that he needs to be, Thats all that can be said anymore. Whats the need of slobbering over someone else’s steak dinner when we have one right here in front of us?
HA you do NOT get to do that 4th down crap again!
LOL
I love that Indy has a Hanson Brother kicking for them
WTF???????/
Wyo,
if it wasn’t for your posts of tweets, we’d all still be wondering who we’re drafting with the 5th pick. LOL
Seriously, though, somebody asks a question and BOOM, tweet is posted. I meant to write this several times in this thread but keep getting distracted. 🙂
That exchange between Tua and Omar: Tua’s comment was what we thought it was… and he elicited the follow ups that ends with Omar having to say something good.
That’s the Alpha putting the jock-sniffer in his place … by making him come to Tua. Tua knows that an NFL QB carries a shit-ton more credibility than the monday morning qb with a laptop. 🙂
So, every FG the rest of the season someone will be posting: “he got a leg” (?)
Teams go through injuries and other situations during a season within the battle of attrition. So far we have dealt with that sort of thing well. Coaching, backups stepping up and Tua are huge this Sunday.
all these 4th down conversions reminds me of Cards doing it … until they DIDN’T (when it counted).
… and there it is
The Colts should have kicked the FG at some point. They wasted a long drive for nothing. But they’re in good shape right now. So it didn’t burn them.
Tannehill is who we thought he was
Gostkowski has really fallen off.
So much for our 7 seed.
Just keep winning some games. Half a season left. It should be fun. The Colts are good on defense and STs just like we are. That wins games. If your QB elevates you now you’re on your way. 🙂
We know what team’s QB doesn’t elevate them😏
Flores/Grier again made the right decision.
I’ve seen the Colts last 2 games, and they’ve got a well rounded team. Tenn’s D is a little suspect and RT is just a little more than a game manager.
Last year’s SB was won at the QB spot, Mahomes got it done when he needed to, and GaroPolo not so much. I see Rivers as someone who can get it done, RT only if the team leads him there.
Watching Buffalo I see a team that moves the ball up and down the field, they seem to have it all on O, they fail when Allen has a hiccup, but he’s about as unstoppable as it gets, when accuracy issues don’t get in the way. Cole Beasley keeps the chains moving and their other 2 WRs make big plays. We’re missing a Beasley.
Instead of going after someone like Waddle, I think we need to focus on a quick tough guy slot receiver, that can be had after the first round. Maybe even a guy that can be developed. Don’t think we have anyone currently that fits that mold.
Was looking for info on Callaway, hoping he’s played the slot, but is primarily the X, although he did play some Z in Cleveland, struggle with the Z and they moved him back to X.
Parker is also an X, so where do they expect Callaway to play?
Wonder if the wonder if the same guy loaded up on the Pats against us in the last game last year.
———————
Someone placed a $99,000 wager on the Packers to beat the Jaguars with the William Hill sports book in Nevada. At odds of -1100, the bet will pay a mere $9,000 if the Packers win.
Damn, I was holding out hope

Parker is also an X, so where do they expect Callaway to play?
———————————————————————–
He can play in several of the positions, and our offense isn’t as rigid as X,Y,Z, they line up in a lot of positions and run a similar route tree out of each. Just like at LB, or D doesnt have WOLB SOLB, etc, we have LB’s and they line up all over and could flex in and out of different roles at different spots.
We often have two X receivers and the TE lined up off, so sometimes we dont even have a true Z reciever, I have seen Parker in the Z spot, i have seen Grant in the Z, i have seen Grant in the slot, i have seen Gesicki in the slot.
We really dont have anything traditional as to what the the origins of X,Y,Z receivers labels came from so i think that Callaway can line up pretty much wherever they need him but id say that on the lin (ie X) is probably where he is better suited, just because he has the athleticism and physical traits to handle that spot best.
I think flanker, or Z is really just X with a cushion so they can use speed to get into their routes and avoid the physicality of the DB’s, so there should be no reason he couldn’t play out of that spot either.
Slot, again, at this point its not really much different than the other positions either, not at this point of the evolution of the NFL defenses, so again, shouldnt be an issue, as far as playing out of the position, it more about the route running ability as some of the slot routes are more quick hit, get in an out of your breaks fast, make precise cuts so you are at the right spot on the field you need to be to be in a hole of the zone when you are supposed to be. He runs good routes and runs most of them well so i cant see slot being a big deal either.
Incidentally i forgot to mention that Y is generally the TE designation, but its a lot more fluid than that these days with TE’s that might shift into other spots and receivers that line up off but close to the OL with the TE in the slot, and two WR on the line (ie in X), like i said all these X Y Z slot, etc these designations dont have much to do with anything they use to
Joey Bosa ain’t playing on Sunday. Our rook QB has to like that.
Musta broke his nose, thats where all his power is stored.

——————————————————————–
I disagree, i think we have some good ones, we just haven’t brought them into the fold yet, probably because they haven’t acclimated to that role yet. Thats what Bowden and Perry will be once they get schooled up. Grants not bad at it, i just dont think that there is chemistry between he and Tua yet. We also have Kirk Merritt which i have been hoping we’d move him up with some of these WR’s going down, he would fit that mold well.
I think the ones that do it well typically are the ones who come from other positions, once where contact is pretty common. The problem with almost any receiver not being great at that role is that they just dont play tough enough, they live and die by avoiding contact and not expecting it and knowing how to fight through it. I can really see Bowden and Perry there.

Why Bosa is out
Cookies!
Why Amos is so famous.

Why Matt Roth lets Church Norris live.
Damned auto correct. Little known Norris brother, Mr church.
Well that and he wouldn’t want to get his ass kicked.
Even Church Norris could kick Matt Roth’s ass, the DNA strands they share would be plenty.
Dirty disease spreading fuckers! Get that shit under control!
Pretty lame it was our coaches who likely caused our players to miss time.
Whoa i didnt notice Nick Coe sneak in on our roster. On PS now. I think he has a ton of Potential, lets see if he works his way on to out roster next year. He and Benito Jones are a couple guys im hopeful for. They were both pretty good college players.
Sweet, was just mentioning him above.
Who’s out at TE?
That’s what I was wondering. I thought Smythe returned to practice.
Okay Smythe was in concussion protocol and was limited in practice and is listed as questionable.
Aha
That 80’s band
That song and video was really cool. Very creative stuff.
I always did dig that video. Can’t remember the name of the song, just the band, lol.
Take on me. That was it
