Week 12 – Dolphins @ Jets

OK Miami Dolphins fans, I’m talking to YOU! I implore you not to overreact. We had a 5 game winning streak going and it was nice. We were winning in all 3 phases of the game, offense, defense and special teams, we were doing whatever it took to win. We came into Denver as the favorites and the Broncos did something no other team in the last 5 games were able to do. They out-physicalled our team, on both sides of the ball. The type of pressure they brought against our young rookie QB seemed to slow down his processing and instead of seeing the field well like he normally does, he often looked stuck in cement as the rush overtook him. It happens. Our O-line which has been stout as can be looked overmatched. Our front 7 could not apply pressure after the first Denver drive where we forced the INT. After that, the Broncos adjusted and held off our pass rush and ran all over us with either Melvin Gordon or Phillip Lindsay. It was a true team loss, so get your heads out of your asses and stop blaming the loss on the rookie QB!

This week’s opponent could potentially be the remedy to rebound from a poor week but I’m not feeling that way. It looks like QB Sam Darnold is likely to start and he’s coming back to an offense that is in better shape now than it was when he got hurt. Rookie WR Denzel Mims is healthy and has been playing very well the last 4 games with 13 receptions for 217 yards and a heady 16.7 YPC. Breshad Perriman is banged up but has scored 3 TD’s in the last 2 games. Rookie RB La’Mical PEE-rine is on IR leaving the solid former Dolphins RB Frank Gore as the primary ballcarrier. The 0-10 Jets on paper look ripe for an easy week for the Dolphins but we Dolphins fans know it doesn’t work like that. The Fitz led Dolphins cruised to a 24-0 shutout of the Jets in Miami where I recall we left a lot of points off the board. RB Myles Gaskin rushed for 91 yards and Fitzpatrick had an uneven day with 3 TD’s and 2 INT’s. It looks like rookie RB Salvon Ahmed (SUH-von ACK-med) will get the start although he’s got a sore shoulder. One thing I noticed after seeing more of Ahmed is that he’s more of a scatback, when he gets hit, he either goes down or backwards. It was pretty similar with Gaskin although to a lesser extent. We’re not going to run any team down with our smaller stable of RB’s.

The New York Jets are 32nd in offensive scoring at 14,9 PPG. They are 31st in giving up points at 30.2 PPG. In contrast, the Dolphins are 13th in offensive scoring at 26.4 PPG and top 5 (4th) in defensive scoring allowing only 20.2 PPG. With division rovalries like these, I normally say throw this stuff out the window. I think the one thing we have in our favor is that even if the Jets put up a good fight I don’t believe they really want to win another game and put themselves in peril of losing the chance of getting QB Trevor Lawrence. Then again, everyone said the same about us at just about the same time of the season and we proved them wrong winning 3 of our last 5 games. What I really want to see is our team look right again. It will be good to have DL Christian Wilkins back on our defense. I want the O-line to blow open holes for whomever is carrying the ball and I want Tua protected. I want the defense to once again create pressure and force turnovers. I want the whole team to get back on the horse and just be like they were during our 5 game win streak and put last week’s loss behind them. I trust Coach Brian Flores to accomplish that on Sunday.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families from us at FinsMobUnleashed!

GO DOLPHINS!!!

LOL at all of you blaming Gailey for the woes on offense. What about execution? Oh that’s right, it’s not about that, it’s about fancy play calls that always work. LOL

If the Jets end up with the #1 pick, I bet Lawrence stays for his senior year. Especially if Gase is still there, but really, how can he not be fired?

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I will laugh if that happens

Lawrence may just stay in school just to get a shot at the headman next year – he’s basically out of it this year

  13. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I actually think Darnold has some talent but was dealt a shitty hand between coaching and lack of talent around him. He may be too far gone in terms of the damaged goods category to save his career

  14. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Okay we got this. 7-4 and in the playoff hunt. That’s all that matters right now.

Since our 0-7 start last year, the last 20 games we’re 12-8. This team came out of the ashes from possibly the worst team ever pretty quickly. LOL

    Bills won 🤬

  27. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Refs give the Pets the win with a terrible personal foul call that set them up.

  28. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Good win. Sanders is the man. What the heck was wrong with Haack today? He had one good punt, and all the rest were about 30-35 yds.

Defense played really well and bailed the offense out again and again. Breida has been a huge disappointment. We really need an upgrade at the RB position next year.

    • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

      Washington looked aight

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Yeah, he looked alright. I think if we upgrade our skill positions and get an OC who can be creative, players like him have a role other than runs up the middle, but we really need a RB who can pound the ball. Howard was supposed to be that guy, and it didn’t work out, so we’re stuck with what we have until next year.

  30. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Who are the Bengals starting at QB?

  31. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Quiz of the day — what did all these Phins players have in common today?

    Matt Breida
    Patrick Laird
    Ryan Fitzpatrick
    DeVante Parker

  32. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Gesicki had another drop today. It’s becoming a trend, he’s had a drop every week for 3 or 4 straight weeks. We had a ton of passes to TEs today. We were lining TEs up all over the field.

Hopefully Williams is ready to play next week. We really need an upgrade at WR.
Parker is great but can’t get separation. Doesn’t really matter with him though, he’s so good at contested balls. After him, we really don’t get it done enough.

The oline was better than last week, but not by much. Time and again today we had problems picking up the jest pass rush. Fitz really had a good game considering he was pressured over and over.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I think Fitz carried what little offense we had. It’s frustrating.

Defense is bend but don’t break and getting TOs. What more could you ask. Get better…lol.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

        Oh, and Sanders!

Back to team effort football, all phases.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’m not sure what happened to our oline the last two weeks, but I’m glad Tua didn’t start today. I think if he started, this game would been a real struggle and may have come down to the very end instead of us taking it relatively easily.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

        Agree, Kong

  33. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

What the heck happened to the Raiders today? lol

  34. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I thought the refs were pretty good today, but they really gifted us that last TD. We had two PI calls go in our favor on that drive that were terrible calls IMO.

And what the heck was with Flores challenging the Darnold 1st down spot at the end of the 1st half? That was a horrible challenge and we had the whole two minute warning break to look at it.

  35. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Draft Etienne

  36. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Stang, I know Sterretore agreed that it should have been ruled incomplete, but when I saw it, I thought Parker tucked the ball away, and a split second later it got knocked out, so I kinda thought him tucking it constituted a football move.

I thought it was a good stands as called, but in this case I can admit it may be I’m looking through Dolphins colored glasses lol.

  37. Ken's avatar Ken says:

The Broncos playing Wildcat look horrible

  38. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Toba, I had to look him up. I don’t know anything about him. I guess he started a couple games for the Broncos last year, lol.

  39. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

Cav Kong; You were absolutely right when you said the refs gave New England that win over the Cardinals. Cam Newton was totally IN BOUNDS when hit by the Cards’ defender!!! That 50 yard winning FG would have been 65 yards w/o the blown call!! Arizona must think they’re snake bit!!
ANYWAY, it will FEEL BETTER IF WE KNOCK-OUT THE PATSIES ON THEIR OWN FIELD LATER IN DECEMBER!!
    ————————–
NOW let’s get healthy and bring back Tua, Williams, the little running back, and anyone else whose on the injured list. Despite all of Miami’s problems today, they STILL WON BY 17 OVER THE HATED JETS!!! BRAVO TO COACH “FLO,” and his coaches and players!!

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Yep, some of my posts may seem critical, but I’m just giving an honest evaluation. I’m happy we got the win, there were a number of positives, but we need to play better if we want to make the playoffs.

That call against the Cards was really bad especially in the last minute of the game, smh. I actually thought when the refs started talking, they would pick the flag up, but of course not when it’s the Pets.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

      Division wins are key.

      • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

KRISHNA; WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME WE SAID “We need to get better” right after we beat the Jets by 17??? – – I can NEVER remember this happening before!!

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

You don’t think we need to get better.

Jets suck, Gase is the coach. I think he made a few poor decisions in the game.

I think we are/can be better!

  40. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

How about that shot Elandon Roberts gave Gore on that 4th and 1. Roberts has a couple of big time hits every game.

  41. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Not talking as a TD celebration. ….. Tyreek Hill just did a back flip into the endzone for the uncontested score. Never seen that one before.

  42. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Dolphins/Jets series is now tied up for the 1st time in more than a decade. We can grab the lead back next year.

  43. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Approaching a 200 point game in fantasy today Tyrek Hill going nuts

  44. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

YOUNG STANGER: Speaking of “Backflips,” I saw FLIPPER do an uncontested backflip when the Dolphins beat the Broncos in the historic Orange Bowl in 1966! This was Miami’s FIRST REGULAR SEASON WIN in history! – – And Flipper’s pool was near the end zone!!

  45. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Looking at the stats. Wow, we actually ended up outrushing the Jest 104-87. It sure didn’t feel like that during the game itself.

  46. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

CAVKONG; Mike Kolen, an All-SEC Linebacker at Auburn, was the hardest, most savage hitter ever to don a Miami uniform. Off the field he was the President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. On the field, he was a holy terror who once, while at Auburn, knocked a Georgia player over the top of the hedges that surround Sanford Stadium. The guy allegedly landed on an old lady holding a box of popcorn in row 2!!

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

In my opinion, Kolen is the most over looked player who started on the 1972 Perfect Season Dolphins!!

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I gotta be honest. If you’d given me his name and asked which team he played for, I wouldn’t have known he was a Dolphin. I appreciate the old school knowledge you bring to the board.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

        Lol, OD…we’re old fuckers!

He visited our high school as we were. A catholic hs. Violence v love…it was cool.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He compares to the modern day Van Ginkel. The 2020 defense is also a No-Name defense. But names are starting to emerge. 🙂

      • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

THANKS, Kong. The 1972 Miami Dolphins are full of colorful stories that need to be told. Unfortunately a few of them are “R” rated, maybe even “X” rated. I was hoping, before his death, that Edwin Pope, the Dean of Florida Sportswriters *(who was originally from Georgia), would publish a book that told the inside story of this team.
However, I think he was too classy a guy to do such a thing. Plus as he, and THEY, all got older, they came to value their mutual friendships of each other. But I sure would have loved to been a “Fly on the Wall” for some of their get-togethers in the 1980’s and later!!!

  47. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

From 5-11 to 7-4. It’s pretty cool fellow Phins fans. 🙂

We have a big time Head Coach in Brian Flores. He wins with his entire roster.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

It’s still too early to tell if we have our franchise QB in Tua, but I have no doubts about our HC. Flores is the man.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Agree about, Tua. And, that’s not shitting on him.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Fair enough. Flores is the man.

I remember when we were in the HC search and most of us didn’t pick Flores because we have no idea what we’re talking about. LOL

  48. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Dolphins slide back into spot #6.

  49. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Dolphins move back in to #2 in the league in defensive ppg at 18.6.
    Steelers are #1 with 17.4.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Overall, they keep getting better. I really hate 3rd and long conversions. Still too many, imo.

DL was strong, I thought. A lot of throws I thought were rushed/off target due to pressure. That’s a good thing.

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

THAT SAID, I’d STILL like us to take one more stud in the upcoming draft who can stop the run!!

  50. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Dolphins are #3 in the league in point differential at +79. Saints will likely take that spot and move us to #4 by the end of the day.

Steelers and Chiefs are #1 and #2 respectively.

  51. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The offense has done some good things this year, but we’re 7-4 because of DEF/ST. That’s because of Brian Flores.

  52. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Tim,
I am very glad I wasn’t involved in the HC search. I was highly annoyed when we hired Flores, lmao.

Jets quarterback Sam Darnold completed just three of 10 targets going after Howard for 37 yards, an interception and a passer rating of 2.9. Howard also made three tackles and one run stop (tackle within two yards of the line of scrimmage). Howard’s passer rating against on the season is just 50.3, best among cornerbacks with at least 50 targets this year.

To put this in perspective, if a QB took 10 snaps and threw all ten passes directly into the turf and completed none of them he would have a 39.6 passer rating. LOL

  84. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

It is nice to have Howard and Jones back there but it is great that we picked up Nik Needham undrafted and were able to get good play out of him as a rookie last year and solid team depth this year. When you have the top two guys we have the other DB’s are going to be tested.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

And yeah – de Blasio got quite a clap back about schools recently

The city, and by the city I mean mayor and associates offices, have really fu,bled everything and been really inconsistent. The state imo has been better but even the state has its shortcomings

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

yes, people can come in and out of the city
And no one is being checked in any way as far as I know

I suppose if the police stopped some one for another reason and that person was in violation of a current quarantine, then they can get fined or something

I think the rule is you just have to quarantine for 14 days upon entry from out of state
But I’m not sure tourists on hotels are really given a hard time about anything

Ive never heard of anything like that

We had a curfew for about 2 weeks during the summer, where if you were out after 10 pm, police would know

But these days the streets are pretty busy
It’s not a ghost town like it was before

Times Square area is probably dead though – bc that’s a tourist area

We will see what happens with the second wave, but right now it’s not anything close to what it was like before

A lot of people go to work, commute to work and go out at night
Restaurants all have outdoor dining space and are allowed to have limited capacity

There’s no theater or the arts right now
      But parks are open

      All outdoor spaces are open

It’s really surprising to me that Iggy is not even in the conversation in our secondary. I was expecting him to be the NB and even play on the outside and be kicking ass. I guess I’m going to have to be patient.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think it’s a Luxury to be able to sit our rookies for a year
But the negative side of that is that we used that late first on a DB when we really didn’t need one and probably could have drafted a RB like Clyde Edwards-Helaire or a WR like Mims.

We are seeing the lack of talent at the skill positions hamstring our offense.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Cornerback is really a cerebral position in the NFL and sometimes, well strike that, most times it takes a year before a good cornerback settles into a great one.

I think he will be great, I know he’s a first round pick but give him some time. I think he will reward you

      It’s a hard schedule
But honestly the only one that really scares me is the chiefs

The raiders have a good offense but aren’t a very good team
We get the patriots at home and we’ve always played well against the patriots at home, and this pArriots team in far inferior to other patriots teams we have beaten

      The bengals are horrible

Playing the bills in buffalo will be tough but I really don’t think they are a dominant team by any stretch

We definitely have the hardest schedule of the teams we’re competing with. We have to get this win against the Bengals, so I’m counting that one ( 😉 @ Ken ).

We control our destiny against the Raiders, so if we want to make the playoffs, we need that win, then win #3 can be had against the Pets.

The problem with the Raiders and Pets is they are #8 and #5 in the league in rushing respectively. Their strength plays against our weakness.

No matter how you slice it, we’ll need to get a couple of wins against tough teams. I really like our chances to be competitive in all 5 games. We haven’t been blown out all year. With Flores at the helm, I really believe we’ll be prepared and have a real chance to get it done.

Win against the Bengals and loss against the Chiefs…… and then it gets interesting.

Looking at the schedules of the teams we’re competing with, I don’t think 9 wins gets us in. We’ll likely need to get to 10-6 to make the playoffs.

Meanwhile, in the NFC one team will get a WC at 9-7, perhaps two WC teams will get in at 9-7.

We are still in it for the division too, our schedule and the Bills isn’t much different, they have a possible loss (9’ers) and an almost guaranteed loss coming up with the Steelers.

We are potentially in a similar spot. KC is going to be a huge undertaking and i never will say any team, much less my own, have no chance in a game, but thats about as close as it comes. The Raiders for us could go either way depending on if we get the good Raiders or the shoot yourself int he foot Raiders, and likewise for us.

I really hope the fucking Steelers lose before the game with the Bills because i hate it coming down this close to the end with them still undefeated and i wanna be able to full on root for the Bills to lose without any reservations.

Hopefully the Ravens can pull a win out against the Steelers even without Jackson. They have a defense, RG3 brings a lot of the same skillset to the table as Jackson, and Harbaugh is one of the truly excellent coaches in the league, but they haven’t been able to practice, so it’s a tall order.

  94. D's avatar D says:

I really dont care for Baltimore, but ill certainly root for them to end this frigging undefeated run, the Steelers do close out rough, plenty of teams that potentially could beat them.

I think its going to come down to the last game for us, and probably the Raiders too. It might be a win or go home situation.

It seems the Ravens are causing a lot of trouble, they may move the game to Wednesday now. Why can every other team be inconvenienced except them? Isn’t this their fault? Why are they blaming the league?

    • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

just saw that it was indeed moved to Wed. 3:40 EST. Its looking more and more like a bubble for playoffs cuz these kind of delays would be very disruptive to playoff schedule.

I’ve been enjoying this season. I really had no expectations as far as wins or playoffs or anything like that. I wanted to see if Flores was for real and if the team was going to continue building and getting better. So far, so good. There have been a couple bad games and the offense has been hot and cold, but overall we are actually seeing a tough, smart, disciplined and competitive team most weeks. We’ve heard that stuff for decades, but we’re actually seeing it on the field now. I’m digging it. The season has already been a nice step forward in my observation. We’re still a young, building team that can still get better in lots of areas. Actually getting into the playoffs would be a very nice opportunity for these young guys to get a taste of it…..but just keep getting better each week.
