Dolphins complete improbable last minute 26-25 comeback victory against the Las Vegas Raiders

So many things had to happen in order for this miraculous comeback to occur. I suppose you can pick a number of different things to be the most important one. I would say the missed extra point by Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson. To me, that was the the start, because it left the door open for the win. In any case, let’s get to how the Dolphins DID win it, which you pretty much have to see to really comprehend.

With 3:37 remaining in the 4th QTR, Raiders QB throws a deep pass while on the run, running to escape pressure and somehow the pass finds WR Nelson Agholor on the right sideline with Byron Jones in coverage. Jones slips trying to make the tackle and then all that’s left is Good Ole Bobby McCain who is unable to even lay a finger on the serpentine weaving of said Agholor. Then the fatal mistake, K Daniel Carlson goes wide right on the extra point making the score 22-16 in favor of the LV Raiders. But wait, is that the turning point, or is it the 9:37 mark of the 4th QTR when Miami Dolphins HC chooses to pull starting QB Tua Tagovailoa and replace him with veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick? You can make the decision.

Down 22-16, Fitzpatrick the QB now, begins a drive with 3minutes and 36 seconds remaining in the game after a touchback which starts at the MIA 25. 2 consecutive short completions to WR Isaiah Ford for 7 and then 9 yards get the Dolphins a first down at the 41 yard line. On first down, Raiders bring pressure and Fitz throws to his outlet, RB Myles Gaskin on the right side and little magic happens her as Gaskin makes a couple of moves and races down the right sideline for a 59 yard TD!!! So with 3 minutes and 8 seconds remaining, the Dolphins now have 23-22 lead.

The Raiders take the touchback and begin at their own 25. QB Derek Carr throws complete to RB Jalen Richard, 2nd and 6. On 2nd and 6, Derek Carr uncorks a deep throw to Nelson Agholor which is incomplete but PASS INTERFERENCE is called on Miami CB Byron Jones. I thought the call was understandable as there is a clear picture where Byron Jones has both hands on the receiver, one on either side of the shoulder pads. While I think the contact is mostly negligible, if you’re an official and you see it, you have the right to call it. Some here were incensed by the call and my very good friend who’s a Steelers fan thought it was an egregious call, so there’s that. In any case, the Raiders now have a first down at the MIA 22 with 2:20 remaining.

On 1st down, Josh Jacobs rushes for 7 yards to the MIA 15 yard line. 2nd and 3 and Jacobs rushes again for 2 yards to the MIA 13 setting up a huge 3rd and 1. No wait! Neutral zone infraction on Kyle Van Noy and an automatic first down at the Miami 8 yard line. Jacobs pushes for 2 yards to the Miami 6, tackled by Van Noy and Miami now uses it’s final timeout, with 1:50 remaining in the game. 2nd down and Jacobs takes it the end zone, NO, he purposely hits the brakes and falls down at the Miami 1 yard line, touched down by Bobby McCain. The Raiders then take a timeout of their own at 1:05 to discuss strategy. On 3rd and goal, Carr kneels and the Raiders run the clock down to 22 seconds remaining. Daniel Carson then comes out on 4th and goal and kicks the game winning 22 yard field goal that send the Dolphins home and out of the playoffs. OK, that’s not what happened, but it sure seemed like it.

Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson booms another touchback so the Dolphins begin the drive with 19 seconds remaining at their own 25 yard line. Ryan Fitzpatrick under pressure, and with a Raider defender literally twisting his facemask to the point where Fitzpatrick can no longer even see the receiver as he’s now looking skyward lets a deep floater to the left sideline to a waiting WR Mack Hollins at the 41 yard line of LV who this time makes the catch and then is pushed out out of bounds. The aforementioned facemask, which is a 15 yard personal foul moves the ball from the LV 41 to the LV 26 yard line. The penalty was actually called as a “Roughing the Passer”, either way, 15 yards. The Dolphins run one play in which QB Ryan Fitzpatrick rolls right and then throws out of bounds which then stops the clock at 6 seconds remaining. Then enters Mr. Clutch, K Jason Sanders who promptly nails the 44 yard field goal to give the Dolphins the lead at 26-25 and once the ball goes through the uprights, a scant 1 second remains. BTW, Dolphins tackle Julie’n Davenport reported as an eligible receiver on the last Fitzpatrick throw out of bounds. Thought you should all know that.

So the Dolphins K Jason Sanders pooches the kick and there’s a couple of laterals and then a fumble and Dolphins safety and ST’s ace Clayton Fejedelem recovers it and that’s the ballgame! DOLPHINS WIN! DOLPHINS WIN!!!

OK, so let’s push aside for a moment that we are 10-5, and have one more game to win in order to make the playoffs in 2020. What’s the deal with Tua???? I’m not sugarcoating anything, I’m disappointed that the Head Coach feels the need to yank him from the game because he’s ineffective. It’s very disturbing to me. It’s the right call, HC Brian Flores has the pulse of this team like no other, he’s been masterful at handling the roster. Is it Chan Gailey? Is he not figuring out how to make this kid succeed? Just one observation, how many fucking times are we going to play action and roll left and find a defender right fucking there within 3 yards of where he’s rolling to? YA THINK YA MIGHT WANNA SCRAP THAT CHAN??? O Rob will just say Tua doesn’t have it, and I’m actually starting to have my doubts as well. QB’s develop at different speeds, there’s no question. First off, don’t try to sell me on this Wood/Stock Tua/Fitz crap. David Woodley was an 8th RD pick dammit, not the #5 pick! Yes, I also understand that the great Aaron Rodgers sat for 3 years, but that was a different era.

If you look around the NFL, there are all kinds of weird QB situations. Carson Wentz has fallen from grace just 4 years into his career. He was playing great football but injuries have sidelined him too often. His replacement, rookie Jalen Hurts has 6 TD’s in 2 starts, 5 passing and 1 rushing. Mitch Trubisky is like a phoenix rising in Chicago. Left for dead and replaced by Professor Lou’s favorite QB Nick Foles, is now back at the reins and leading the Bears to an improbable playoff run and is 5-2. Trubisky was on a path not too different from our own Ryan Tannehill was on, decent QB who can get the job done if he has a good enough cast around him. Is that what Tua is now? Is that what he’s going to be?

I don’t have the answers, but to me it’s disappointing. Simple as that. Furthermore, and I expect flak from this, I don’t want to fucking hear that Tua is fine with being pulled and that he roots for Ryan Fitzpatrick. I don’t! I want him to burn inside with the desire to be better and to claim that position, I want him to be be the alpha hippo and bite Fitzpatrick’s tail off and then turn around and spin his own feces and cover Fitzpatrick! I love Ryan Fitzpatrick, I really do, he’s fun, but I want Tua to man up and take the reins and never look back. If he doesn’t do this soon, I fear he may never be “The Guy”. That doesn’t mean I’m right, but it’s going to be how I feel. Oh, this doesn’t mean Rob is right either, so pipe down there big guy!

So how do we stop Henry from running for 200 yards against us with Tannehill running the play action on us all afternoon?

  2. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Also it was good Packers beat Titans because now Titans have to beat the Texans next week to win the division so that should sow up the 3rd spot in the draft

  3. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I guess first we need to figure out how to contain Allen and stop him from throwing for over 400 yards and 4 TD’s against us again first huh?

How do we keep up on offense to make it competitive when Flo is starting Tua and he has yet proven than he can throw more than 2 TD’s in a game.

  4. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I don’t think Wilson is 2nd best by a long shot. Maybe better than Fields but Trask and Jones are still better
    ————————————–
Yeah, I didn’t say I agree with their assessment. lol I’m thinking more:
    Lawrence
    Trask
    Wilson
    Fields
    Jones
    Lance
I have Fields ahead of Jones only because of his mobility. I do think Jones is the better QB but history has shown us teams like shiny Ferrari’s. People shouldn’t compare him to Haskins, Fields is fast! Hate to say it, but I could see the Pats snagging Jones.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I don’t see Haskins and Fields being anything alike and Fields has a much bigger body of work than Haskins did

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’m not even looking at QBs this offseason
Trash looked good when I saw him play

I haven’t really watched much of the others besides Lawrence

Stop Tenn by making them play from behind don’t let them run it down our throats make Tannehill throw a lot and then sack him and pick him off.

I would rather play the colts than the Titans

    But first….

    Let’s crush the Bills!

  7. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I’m not defensive minded but would playing like a 3-5-3 with the 5th LB being a rover/spy whose sole responsibility is Henry? Switch it up between several players like Baker and maybe Brandon Jones, etc. To bad we lost Roberts. I like the way he attacks downhill.

Was this weekend the best weekend for Dolphins fans that you can remember?

Not only did the Browns, Colts and Titans lose increasing the likelihood that we will make the playoffs

But the jests won solidifying the 2nd pick in the draft….lol

And the Texans lost moving us up in the draft

And most of all….and I can’t say this enough “WTF! How did we win that game on Saturday!!!!”

  10. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

You can tell right before this happened, the Raiders fans in this house were talking so much trash

We make the playoffs if ONE of these things happen next week:

    • Dolphins beat the Bills
    • Browns lose to the Steelers
    • Colts lose to the Jags
    • Ravens lose to the Bengals

    AP All American teams announced:

Alabama has 6 first team selections, 5 on offense!!!
    QB Jones
    WR Smith
    RB Harris
    OT Leatherwood
    Center Dickerson

Surtain is only defensive player on first team.

This can elevate Jones’ value it would seem. But no matter what, Notre Dame is gonna have to score 40+ points just to be in the game. lol

  13. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

On defense Miami and Buffalo are fairly even in yards allowed (rushing and passing)
On offense they are fairly even in rushing yardage
BIG difference is the passing yards where Buffalo is #3

While defensive yardage is similar we give up 11 pts per game LESS so our D doesn’t break like theirs does.

Key to game is HEALTH: must have Lawson ready to go and our DBs have to have a great game.
On offense it would be great to have Kindley back for the run game on that right side of the line with Hunt.

  14. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Even if Houston loses, don’t get too attached to that #3 pick . Cav and I were talking #4 last night but the weekend’s results flipped Houston’s SOS to lower than Atlanta’s….. and thus our pick to #3.

But their SOS’s are still real close and can flip again next weekend even if both lose. All depends on the games of every team they’ve played this season.

Crunching numbers on SOS between Houston and Atlanta …

Looking for games that would increase SOS compared to the other team.
    1. Division games mean that if both lose or win it won’t impact SOS
    2. Cancel out teams that both have played because it impacts them the same
    3. of the remaining teams on each list, only 1 possible win when two of them are playing each other

Atlanta is guaranteed 1 win increase, with 2 variable games, and 1 head to head
Houston is guaranteed 2 wins, with 2 variable games (both NE), and the 1 head to head

The head to head from their games-lists is LAC (Atl) vs KC (Hou).
It would be nice if that LAC-KC game won’t change SOS …so

    1. Buff over NE tonight helps us out in a potential draft order tie breaker 🙂 That means the only variable game left is NE vs NYJ. (NE over Jets means Hou has 3 win increase Before KC/LAC)

    2. Seattle over 49ers AND Dallas over NYG are Atl’s 2 variable games before the KC/LAC

Cheering instructions to lock in SOS tie break for #3/#4 pick BEFORE KC/LAC play:
NE to lose last 2 games, Seattle and Dallas wins … then a KC win should mean identical SOS (lol)

If only one of (Buff over NE, Jets over NE, Sea over 49ers, Dallas over NYG) does not happen we would have to rely on LAC to beat KC … and none of us want that. whew. I ate numbers for lunch.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Those are some serious numbers crunched, but overall you thinking we look good for #3 or not? Rooting for the Chargers to beat KC doesn’t sound good…. but the Chiefs could be mailing it in.

“NE to lose last 2 games, Seattle and Dallas wins … then a KC win should mean identical SOS (lol)” would make for one hell of a coin toss. Should make SportsCenter.

      • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

The only reason I would ever consider cheering for Pats these last two games is to drop their first pick. BUT a 6-10 season for NE ? We could fill a tanker with their fans tears.

    • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

OR make it simple and just have Atlanta beat TB and Tenn beat Houston. 🙂

TB is locked at 5th or 6th seed to play either Seattle or Wash…
Tenn got embarassed and can clinch division with win over Houston.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

As a guy who loves to do this stuff and who respects your intellect enough to believe you did it right, much respect and kudos. I wasn’t going to do it, lol.

  24. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

I think we’ll have to play Buffalo in round one in most scenarios. Only a Cincy victory over Ravens and/or Jax upset of Indy takes us off this trajectory.

So below lets “assume” Ravens beat Cincy. (Balt 11-5)
Also, bet the house on Indy crushing Jax. Indy (11-5)

1a. we clinch a spot with Pittsburgh (13-3) win over Cleveland (10-6), then
    1b. we beat Buffalo (12-4, 3rd seed) Miami 11-5, 6th seed. (Indy is 7th)
    Buffalo (3rd) vs Miami (6th)
1c. we lose to Buffalo (13-3, 2nd seed cuz they beat Pitts head to head), Miami 10-6, 7th seed.
    Buffalo (2nd) vs Miami (7th)

2a. we clinch a spot with Pittsburgh (13-3) win over Cleveland (10-6), then
2b. Cincy beats Ravens, Buffalo beats Miami. Buff 2nd seed, Miami is 6th seed and plays Pitts
2c. Cincy beats Ravens, Miami beats Buffalo. Buffalo 3rd seed, Miami 5th seed and plays Tenn.

If Ravens win, there is not a scenario where we make the playoffs and NOT play Buffalo for a second week in a row without Jax also upsetting Indy.
I’d rather play Pittsburgh or Tenn then play the same team back to back.

    • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Forgot to add… what if Cleveland beats Pittsburgh? Well, we MUST beat Buffalo.

In that scenario Buffalo is #2 seed, Miami #5 … but it doesn’t allow us to lose and still get in without Ravens losing also. Come on Cincy!

  25. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I can see Haskins getting a second chance elsewhere and making the best of it

I don’t think his nfl story is over

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Someone will pick him up but I don’t see him ever amount to anything

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

He’s a turnover machine who just got cut by a franchise called “The Football Team”…not sure there is much lower to go, lol.

I guess there he could always be a backup on the New York ‘sort of football team’ Jest.

  26. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

“Cheering instructions to lock in SOS tie break for #3/#4 pick BEFORE KC/LAC play:
NE to lose last 2 games, Seattle and Dallas wins … then a KC win should mean identical SOS (lol)”
    ————-

Dallas has a good chance to beat the Giants, Seattle has an excellent chance to beat the Niners, and NE will lose tonight to the Bills. Then we just need the Jest to beat the Pets next week.

KC has the #1 seed locked up, so they may rest starters against the Chargers…

    • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

That means KC starters would have nearly a full 3 weeks between games without playing. I can see maybe sitting people in 4th QTR, then rest in bye week. Or rest the guys that are banged up.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Yeah, that is what I can see happening. A few banged up guys getting the whole game off and some of the key starters getting pulled in the 2nd half. I can’t recall how Reid approaches week 17s with nothing to play for, but I’d be surprised to see Hill or Mahomes out there late in the 4th.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Wait, the Texans played NE and Atlanta didn’t, so why are we cheering for NE to lose?

  27. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Yeah, we really need the Falcons to beat the Bucs otherwise the odds are slim we get another weekend where 5 games all fall our way.

As long as the Titans don’t screw us, #4 is still a great pick, lol.

    • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

On those draft pick value charts, the difference between #4 and #3 is equivalent to a top 1/3 3rd round pick in the 70s range… I feel greedy lol. When the season began I doubt many of us thought this pick had a chance to be top 5.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Early in the year, I was happy thinking it would be top 10, then as the season progressed it really started to play out well for us. Top 5 is amazing, but I’m with ya, let’s get that #3, lol.

  28. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Haskins had 9 interceptions in 22 games at Ohio state
In the pros he had 14 in 16 games

    Night and day

I’ve seen scouts say you need an usually rely on accuracy to make the transition from college to the pros

In Haskins case – I guess not

I hope he finds his way though and signs with a team that had their QB in place so he can sit behind a veteran without any pressure

  29. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I was thinking of Winston when I said Haskins was a turnover machine. I am really not very sharp today.

D, what’s up with taking Barmore that high? He is stout and really good but has not been disruptive at all this year. If I take a DT that high, I would want a disruptive monster like Donald. Two sites I have looked at have him at DT2 and one of them has him going mid to late 2nd round. You know your SEC guys like nobodies business so I will take your word for it but I don’t see him going any earlier than late 1st.
    —————————————————
Barmore isn’t really a straight DT, he is a DE/DT hybrid like out read likes or i should say fits us. I dont think he has reached his potential, but he will be a good 1-Tech, 5-Tech hybrid much like Wilkins and Davis. Having all three of those guys on the field at the same time would crush a OL. Im big on DT’s, and yeah i probably would trade back from 3 and take him, but i think you are going to have to go upper mid first to get him.

Like i said before, if its a top 5 pick id probably trade back to like 8-12ish and take him there i think he is worth that pick. Pitts outside the top 5 i think id stay put and take him if someone else doesn’t get him first. Id love Waddle, we could use a guy who takes the top off the defense, but the more i think about the players we have at WR, i think we could do better with Pitts and a guy like Toney more.Harris is almost becoming a must have for me, im leaning toward him still being there with our first second round which seems like its going to be damn near a low first at this point.

If the stars align, ideally i would like to get Pitts, Barmore, then Harris and Toney. Those guys i think would be amazing additions to what we are building and how we are building it.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I don’t reallly trust our WRs any more. Where are they, in fact? I want a Jerry Rice who was there every fucking year.

Or anybody who is there every year.

      • D's avatar D says:

Problem is you cant evaluate that. Would be nice to know i take this guy and year maybe not a top speed guy, or top contested guy, but he is good and will be there every game. That probably would have me selecting them over one of the others, but just no way to predict it.

  37. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Here’s a headline from Steelerswire that should make us nervous — “Should the Steelers rest their starters vs the Browns?”

Same time…… whatever reasons to do that go for the Bills as well. And would we ever like them to rest for the playoffs. How much is #2 versus #3 worth?

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I still have a hard time believing teams will give up an opportunity to stay home for the divisional round. Maybe I’m wrong and no fans makes teams consider things differently. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.

If the flipping Steelers had just lost yesterday, they’d need to play their starters and the Bills wouldn’t have a reason to.

  38. D's avatar D says:

Point i ws making about Fields is that Fields just like Haskins looks great int he OU system, but i dont think he is anymore successful than any of the other ones that have come before him. The absolute best QB that OSU has had in past decade was Terrell Pryor, and he could do it, but just go back to all the hype over all the different OSU QB’s in the past decade maybe even 2, and tell me how many of them were successful, and how many of them had to switch positions to get on the field. They dont turn out good QB prospects.

It’s the possibility of A TIE GAME!!!!!
    ————————-
WAY BACK before our first game of the regular season I predicted that Miami would go 9-6-1 and win the 7th and final playoff spot. (I just could NOT decide if we’d go 9-7 or 10-6 so I split the difference and predicted 9-6-1 for the Phins.) WELL here we are at 10-5 so all that proves was that I WAS NOT OPTIMISTIC ENOUGH!!!
    ————————
ANYWAY, you scenario guys, WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR PLAYOFF CHANCES IF WE TIE BUFFALO???

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

A tie is the same as a loss for us against everyone except for the Titans. We’d need one of those guys to lose to get in.

With the Titans it’s a negligible difference. We’d jump them if they lose and we tie, where as we be behind them if we both lose.

HELL, by the 2-year point, a certain “EXPERT” from Ocala would have run him out of the league!!!

BUT Buffalo’s management had more patience. SO, here we are, in his 3rd year as a starter, Josh Allen has completed almost 69% of his passes and has led his team to first place in the AFC East.

I’m REAL SURE that TUA will get at least 3 years in Miami to show us what he’s got, whether a certain critic likes it or not.

By the way, a certain Hall of Fame QB named “ELWAY” was riding the bench down the stretch of his first season in Denver. He completed 47% of his passes for just 7 touchdowns before being assigned guard duty to the bench. I remember rumors of his returning to the Yankees farm system as the NFL season ended.

Yes, a few people were highly impatient way back in 1983 also.

M13, I do the draft simulator on “thedraftnetwork”. I know where I get some players will not be reality but believe that site is close in evaluation and player ranking.

Anyway, in reality, I think we would need to take Najee in the 1st like you did as I don’t think he would last. Rethinking I would go:
    1a WR Devonta Smith
    1b RB Najee Harris
    2a WR Kadarius Toney
    2b OC/IOL Dickerson or Myers
    —————
I do like “The Draft Network”… Kyle Crabbs and Joe Marino both know me, and I respect their takes. Absolutely AGREED that Najee Harris will go earlier than most think, and especially now that he’s a consensus AP All-American: he will NOT be slept on.

I did a deep dive into the SOS numbers using the calculation of wins vs games played. If I’ve got my numbers right, they say that as long as the Texans lose in week 17 they will have a weaker SOS and should retain the #3 spot no matter what happens.

    SOS equation is: (wins/total games=SOS)
The NFL calculates all wins for 16 opponent games including twice for divisional opponents. So after 16 games the total # of opponents games will be 256. A tie removes 1 game from the total games column because it is neither a win or a loss, so instead of 256, it will be 255.

I totaled the Falcons opponents wins and the Texans opponents wins through 15 games.

    Atlanta opponents: 132 wins
Texans opponents: 129 wins (The Bengals also have a tie, so the Texans have 1 less total game)

After calculating game outcomes these are the the potential additions to opponent win totals (I’ll show how I arrived at these numbers):

    Atlanta: 8-10 wins
    Texans: 8-10 wins

Worst case scenario is Atlanta opponents gets 8 wins and the Texans opponents get 10 wins. This would be the worst case scenario final tallies:

Atlanta opponents: 140 wins out of 256 games .546 (SOS)
Texans opponents: 139 wins out of 255 games .545 (SOS)

Long story short – if the Texans lose we have the #3 pick.
    (assuming my numbers are right)

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

To arrive at a potential 8-10 wins per team’s opponents:

Both teams have 16 opponents so we start with potentially 16 wins:

      Atlanta

      Carolina plays N.O
—Both these teams played ATL twice, one team will lose, one win. They count twice.
+2 wins and 2 losses guaranteed

      GB plays Chicago
      Denver plays Vegas
      KC plays Chargers
      Detroit plays Minny
—All these teams played Atlanta once, 4 will lose, 4 win.
+4 wins and 4 losses guaranteed

      Tampa plays Atlanta
      +2 wins guaranteed

      Seattle plays Niners
      Dallas plays Giants
—Seattle and Dallas played Atlanta. These games are the only variable games.
both games add either 1 win or 1 loss.

So totaling up, we have 8 guaranteed wins, 4 guaranteed losses and 2 either way (so 8-10 wins added to the Atlanta total.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

      Houston

      Indy plays Jax
—Both these teams played Houston twice, one team will lose, one win. They count twice.
+2 wins and 2 losses guaranteed

      GB plays Chicago
      Cincy plays Baltimore
      Detroit plays Minny
      Clev plays Pitt
—All these teams played Houston once, 4 will lose, 4 win.
+4 wins and 4 losses guaranteed

      Tenn plays Houston
      +2 wins guaranteed

      KC plays Chargers
      N.E. plays the Jets
—KC and N.E. played Houston. These games are the only variable games.
both games add either 1 win or 1 loss.

So totaling up, we have 8 guaranteed wins, 6 guaranteed losses and 2 either way (so 8-10 wins added to the Houston total.

  85. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

The short version of all that is – assuming both ATL and HOU lose – we have the #3 pick no matter what else happens:

The lowest SOS Atlanta can hope for is .546
The highest SOS Houston can get is .545

All the data is in the posts if anyone cares to put the work in and check the numbers. (You would have to confirm current win totals and the schedules manually which took me about an hour, lol.)

    • somebody besides Me is up at 4 am? lol

i always get up at 4 because thats the time that the daily stock prices in my portfolio update,
i like watching the daily gap ups, i have total outperformers

doing awesome this year, stocks and crypto are kicking it! Bitcoin is close to $27,000 now

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

One other thing. I assume the NFL rounds decimals, but I did not calculate it that way just in case. I just dropped numbers after the 3rd place.

If you round to the 3rd decimal, it increases Atlanta’s SOS from .546 to .547. Houston stays at .545.

Minor, but important to note for clarity.

  91. Mike, the team and Flores has already exceeded expectations. but the players and coaches would like to win a super bowl

we cant be a favorite to win a SB< not yet. however, ANY playoff loss would not set well with Me, or the team. They want, what i want, a SB title

i would think the Fins can seriously win a SB as soon as next year, but def before 2025 IMO

as the team raises their level of play, expectations will rise also

I was listening to WQAM, Joe Rose show and he had Michael Lombardi, former NE Patriots Asst and now NFL Analyst, and he also said the Dolphins should play Fitzgerald next week and into the playoffs if they get in.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I tend to agree. I think we have a better chance to win with Fitz than Tua so it would seem to be the smart thing to do. Tua’s fragile ego be damned if he is hurt by it. BUCK UP AND TAKE IT TUA!

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Lombardi never really liked Tua and has been working the rounds to tell the sports world about it

And Lombardi never coached either. He was actually the “assistant to the coaching staff” in New England beginning in 2014 – 2016

Basically he got Belicheats coffee and got to put New England on his resume for the rest of his life

Before New England he was GM and VP for the Browns form 2013-2014. In that time the browns could not crack .500 and drafted Johnny Manziel

Before that he was an executive for the Raiders form 1998-2007. Most of that time the raiders were one of the worst franchises in football. 2001 and 2002 were good years for the raiders – after 2002, the raiders struggled to win 5 games a season

Lombardi is the sort of mediocre executive that floats around the league. To cap his career he took a meaningless title with a good team (the Patriots) that he did nothing to improve – and now he is introduced as a former executive to the Patriots to inflate his resume

He kind of reminds me of a guy like Mike Tannebaum
The NFLs is actually full of executives like this that float around and never really build the strong teams

Maybe I am crazy, but I am inclined not to take the guy who drafted Johnny Manziel and DeMarcus Russell seriously about QB simply bc he knows whether Belicheat wants 1 or 2 sugars with his coffee

  93. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t think Tua has a fragile ego, nothing he’s done leads me to believe that. I’m not so sure we have a better chance to win with Fitz either. Everyone is all high on Fitz now but keep in mind the transition from Fitzmagic to Fitztragic happens in a flash, and then it’s all over. The one reason over all others is that I think right now that maybe Fitz is the choice is this offense is designed more for Fitz than Tua. Fitz did have a healthy Parker and Gesicki and even healthy RB’s for just about all of his starts. I still feel like I want to see Tua grow, and playing in games like this is the way to do it.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’m sure he would handle it fine and it’s not an issue

I think Coach Flores genuinely thinks he gives us the best chance to win

I like Ryan Firzpatrick a lot. But he has thrown 8 interceptions this year. If he has one of those multiple int games in the bills game or the postseason, we will lose the game

Tua on the other hand has struggled to move the ball downfield but has not turned the ball over

We have the best scoring defense in the nfl
We are two games removed from rushing for 200 yards

Playing the game manager (I don’t think that described Tua’s ceiling) is the smart move
If you ever up in another game like the raiders, Fitz can come off the bench and give you your surge

This is the best way to win and win now
We have two capable QBs on this team and a very good defense

We need to avoid turnovers early in the game

Both of these two QBs will just have to accept whatever gut punch they get if they are benched or pulled

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I agree, and I also believe Tua can be better. We’ve seen it.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        I think he can too

But I don’t think criticism directed at him for being unable to move the ball downfield so far is unfounded. He has struggled so far

But let’s not turn it into a meteor is heading straight to the earth and we are all about to die. Some of these guys need to get a grip

    • D's avatar D says:

The way he was acting on the sideline didnt suggest he didnt completely agree with the decision and was supportive of it and Fitz. The guys has all the characteristics of a winner, and to a winner, winning is more important than pride.

  94. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:
