2020 Miami Dolphins Season Recap

I know it’s hard to push the last game of the season out of your minds, but if you just set it aside for a bit, you can appreciate what was accomplished by our team in a very promising rebuilding season. Like Tim has said many times, the NFL season is divided into quarters. We lost the 1st quarter of the season. We finished the 1st QTR of the season 1-3 winning only against the Jacksonville Jaguars and losing 2 division games, one to the Patriots and one to the Bills. We let a game get away from us against Seattle too. Not a good start. First Quarter / 1-3

The 2nd Quarter of the season is where we started to turn some heads. We blew out and dismantled the SF 49ers in their house. We pummeled Niners QB Jimmy Garopplo sacking him 5 times and turned them over 3 times for an impressive blowout 43-17 victory. 1-0. The Dolphins then cruised to an easy 24-0 win over the hapless Jets to start this quarter 2-0. The Dolphins schedule was affected by COVID-19 and thus forced us to take our BYE week 6 weeks earlier, so Week 5 it was, rather than Week 11. This schedule change ended up causing the Dolphins to make an earlier change at QB as the Tua Tagovailoa era in Miami began. In a game that really opened up the eyes of the talking heads, the Dolphins gave the LA Rams the same treatment they gave the Niners and made Jared Goff look bad. Whispers were happening that this Dolphins defense just might be for real. We turned over the Rams 4 times in an impressive win over the 5-2 Rams. So far, 3-0 this quarter. The Dolphins then faced their second 5-2 NFC team in a row in the Kyler Murray led Arizona Cardinals. It was a back and forth affair but for the first time, the Dolphins actually had to lean on their young QB and he came through to lead the Dolphins to a 4th quarter come from behind victory, 34-31. This is where we made our hay. Second Quarter/ 4-0 (5-3 overall)

The Dolphins began the 3rd quarter of the season against the 2-6 LA Chargers. This was to be the highly touted matchup of rookie QB’s Justin Herbert against Tua Tagovailoa. As it turned out, Tua had the better game by a slight margin as the Dolphins defense picked off Herbert once and sacked him twice. The Dolphins won 29-21. 1-0. The Dolphins then traveled to Mile High. The Broncos defense confused and abused QB Tua Tagovailoa and made Tua look like a rookie QB. Both RB’s Melvin Gordon ran for over 80 yards and the Dolphins for the first time brought in relief pitcher Ryan Fitzpatrick. Tua got banged up and there was no Fitzmagic this day as the Dolphins went to 6-4 losing 20-13. 1-1. A welcome relief in sight, the Dolphins traveled to NJ to play the Jets again in another relatively uncontested game. Ryan Fitzpatrick cruised the Dolphins to a 20-3 victory. 2-1. Tua returned from injury to face the Joe Burowless Bengals and the Dolphins defense picked off both Brandon Allen and Ryan Finley for a 19-7 victory. 3-1. Third Quarter / 3-1 (8-4 overall)

The Dolphins started the final quarter of the season hosting the AFC Beast Kansas City Chiefs and we sort of gave them a game, we played a lot of catchup after the Chiefs got to a 30-10 3rd quarter lead. Tua rallied the Dolphins for 17 4th QTR points but it was too little too late as the Dolphins fell 33-27. Valiant effort really, but a loss nonetheless. 0-1. The Dolphins then hosted the New England Patriots for a much needed rematch and the Dolphins were up to the task. Although we had a sluggish first half and were down 9-7, the Dolphins took control in the 2nd half outscoring the Patriots 15-3 for a well deserved win. 1-1. The Dolphins traveled to Sin City to the Las Vegas Raiders beautiful new home, Allegiant Stadium. The Dolphins offense featured Tua Tagovailoa dinking and dunking through 3 plus quarters completing 17-22 passes for just 94 yards and 1 TD. 9:47 mark of the 4th QTR HC Brian Flores pulled starting QB Tua Tagovailoa with the Dolphins trailing 16-13 and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick makes his 2nd relief appearance, his first not due to an injury. You all know the story, the Raiders went up 22-16 with just 0:19 seconds remaining which led to the Fitzmagic drive that will always be an image we can remember as his head was twisted to the point where he couldn’t see where the throw was going but was complete to WR Mack Hollins at the LV 41 yard line and then the 15 yard facemask penalty spotted the ball at the 26 yard line which set up the Jason Sanders game winning 44 yard FG. 2-1. Then the wheels went off the track against the division bully Buffalo Bills. The wounds are still fresh so I’ll spare you, we lost badly, an unfortunate embarrassing end to what was a very promising season. Fourth Quarter / 2-2. (10-6 overall)

So the Dolphins finished the season with a 10-6 record, 2nd in the AFC East. Even the most optimistic fans didn’t see this coming. I think the defense really surprised us, there were many things that despite the last game letdown, lead you to believe this team is not too far away from having a great defense. Like the great Dolphins defenses of the 1970’s, this is also a no name defense. CB Xavien Howard is likely the one player that casual NFL fans know, and maybe Kyle Van Noy because the Patriots were so visible. Our defense is young, really young, and guys that we drafted last year and this year are already cornerstones of that defense. DL Christian Wilkins drafted last year, DL Raekwon Davis drafted this year, LB Andrew Van Ginkle (last year) and to a lesser extent, DL Jason Strowbridge who was part of the rotation on the D-line. The guys we brought in in free agency solidified the defense. LB Kyle Van Noy was a great leader on the field, DE Emmanuel Ogbah had a very strong 3/4 of the season but faded out late in the season. OLB Shaq Lawson was also effective but less so than Ogbah. #55, Jerome Baker had his best season as a Miami Dolphin LB. If you give a good player better players around him, you will see his play rise with the talent around him.

This brings me to the offense. The one place where I believe all Dolphins fans should be thrilled about is the offensive line. This unit made great strides this season, comprised of mostly rookies. Rookie LT Austin Jackson started most of the year when he was healthy, and so did rookie OG’s Solomon Kindley and T/G Robert Hunt. Swingman Jesse Davis played every position but C on the O-line this season and is a keeper for his versatility and selflessness. Veteran C Ted Karras did a nice job this season but will be a free agent in 2021. Do we re-sign Karras, or Is Michael Deiter ready to man the C position, do we draft a center or do we go free agency again?

We need playmakers. We have a few guys that can be considered playmakers but one such player like DeVante Parker has once again proven he can’t be counted on for 16 games during the season. He played in parts of 14 games, but was hampered by injury and ineffective in a few. When he was healthy he was fantastic as always, but he still finished with a rather pedestrian season, 63 catches for 793 yards and 4 TD’s. Mike Gesicki is another one, and I wish I knew whether it was Gailey, Fitz or Tua or a combination of all 3 that sometimes just completely ignored him. Gesicki had a nice season with 53 catches for 703 yards and 6 TD’s but I think he can do so much more. I think he’s nearly as talented as LV TE Darren Waller who saw nearly DOUBLE the targets Gesicki got. We will be drafting WR’s in the 2021 NFL Draft, make no mistake. We need to build and give QB Tua Tagovailoa legitimate WR’s to throw to. At RB, I think Myles Gaskin is a really nice #2, like an Austin Ekeler type of player. He could be a #1 if necessary but I think we need more of a downhill runner who can push the pile and run more with more physicality. So often I saw both he and Salvon Ahmed downed by first contact.

The nice thing is the Laremy Tunsil trade has afforded us two more great picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, #3 in RD1 and #36 in RD2. We have 9 picks in all, two 1st RD picks, two 2nd RD picks and then 5 more distributed in the next 5 rounds. Building this offense is paramount to making Tua Tagovailoa a better QB. As I mentioned earlier with Jerome Baker, good players play better with better talent around them. He needs reliable receivers, a RB that can carry the load and pass block and stout OL, which I feel we’re well on our way with the O-line. Keep building that defense, AVG may be a star in the making and I really liked Elandon Roberts but I feel like he’s more of a 2 down player. A guy like Micah Parsons could really elevate this LB corps and the defense as a whole.

We have such a young nucleus on this team. I think we will add another nice veteran or two in free agency. Draft strong and just use free agency to fill in spots, not as a crutch. I think we have that formula down now. We have about $32M to spend but we’re not going to be big spenders anymore. We’re building, and I think we could be in the top 10 teams of 2021 and should be in the playoffs. In 2022, who knows? 1 year at a time, and for us Dolphins fans, 2020 was a good one!

I really would prefer to keep the politics OUT. I see and hear enough of that shit on every social media platform and it just frustrates the heck out of me. Football is and life is what this blog is about, and yes, politics is part of like too, but it’s just so damn ugly that I think we’re better off without it here. GO DOLPHINS!!!

Good point on that hearing other signs on it. I’d never talk in-depth politics with someone who has the view of ORob, steve or Top. Would veer away from such in the real world. Hearing where they are coming from helps me understand why.

I read they want Tua to be a game manager, not a big play QB, i guess that’s why they focused on the dink and dunk offense.
Tua has the worst stats in the league for passes over 10 yards.

who knows, maybe it will work, they’d better have a great supporting cast.

i always thought the best way dink&dunk works is when you are able to stretch the field with a deep threat.
That would mean a fast rec a great OL and a QB with the arm to deliver

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think probably the best thing for us is to wait a little before we make a decision on his future

For now surround him with weapons

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Tua is good on those short passes, but playing to his strengths doesn’t have to be all one or the other.

  7. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I’ve seen enough from Tua physically this past year to know that he has what it takes to be an NFL QB, but I don’t know the level of his head and heart. I saw him regress over the year and it wasn’t because of a lack of weapons. That’s a whole different topic that I’m not focusing on. Can he get in the huddle and lead men? He seemed to be able to do so in his first couple of games and then things slowly started to decline and it looked to affect the play of the defense as well. A lot of that had to do with the coordinator. I saw the same thing happen with Sherman and Tannehill early in his career.
I’m not a huge fan of Anthony Lynn as a coordinator, but I like what Herbert had to say about him and his approach to the young QB. Make sure he’s having fun, and put him in positions to be successful. We rarely saw that consistently this year.
There’s no doubt that Tua needs weapons and we need to strengthen the o-line and upgrade the running back position. Those things will help Tua, but we definitely need someone to come in here and build this guy’s confidence and teach him how to be a successful NFL QB if that’s possible. I’m not in the building so I can only go by what I see on the field and on the sidelines and in interviews. I have concerns about his mental makeup.

    _____
    Yup.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

And there is a non-nuclear option with Tua — draft a QB relatively high like in the 2nd or 3rd round and start developing. Won’t be an immediate threat to him but might be ready if becomes clear Tua is not “The Guy.”

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The thing about drafting a QB in the 2nd and 3rd RD is that in some ways that turns out to be a wasted pick. We could potentially get a really good RB or WR with that pick but instead it will be a QB holding a clipboard that probably won’t amount to anything. Either we’re in with Tua or we’re not. I don’t like a half in approach, that’s sure to fail. If you believe in him, just surround him with a bunch of good skill players and let it rip.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

We’ve got 5 picks in the first 3 rounds. And having a solid back-up QB is something to have no matter who the starter is.

  9. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Very aggressive Mets trade! Trading away young talent like IF’s Amed Rosario and Andres Giminez plus 2 Mets pitching prospects for SS Francisco Lindor and P Carlos Carrasco. Good short term trade but not great for the long term.

  10. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Stanger – There are always QB’s around that have actually played NFL games that will be available in FA w/o paying them a lot. I’d rather do that that spend an early pick on one. Just my preference.

Tua is good on those short passes, but playing to his strengths doesn’t have to be all one or the other.
    ________________________________
Not sure what you mean however if you have both short & long pass accuracy, you wil be tougher to defend, knowing Tua struggles with the deep ball i would somewhat cramp the field on him. good DC’s make you beat them with your weaknesses as opposed to your strengths.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I was saying if he remains a short passer (which he is real good at) that doesn’t mean won’t still throw deep. And hopefully that area of his game develops. It is the big concern with him.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

If he remains a short passer then he won’t be in this league as a starter. The guy needs more talent to play with and a full off season preparing with that talent and the OC, all the first team reps too. I really believe we’ll see a different QB. There’s no reason he has to be confined to short passing, he’s not a noodle arm.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Think Tua could be a greatest show on turf guy. But not too many bombs in that O either…..more open guys who do catch and run. But with that comes different receivers… which think we’ll be drafting. Then we will see.

  12. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I would like to see us trade for Carson Wentz, when he played in that superbowl year he was the reason they went all the way. i think he can get back to that level on a different/good team.

“The Miami Dolphins announced this afternoon that they’ve “mutually parted ways” with defensive line coach Marion Hobby.”

  14. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

LOL. You guys fall for it every time.

  15. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Stanger – Kurt Warner has some serious talent, namely one of the best RB’s in the history of the game in Marshall Faulk. I don’t recall Warner throwing only short passes. Certainly Faulk did a lot of the heavy lifting, not unlike Alvin Kamara does now for Brees, but he threw deep to Bruce, Holt and Az-Zahir Hakim too. I’ll take a Marshall Faulk for Tua, and then a couple of talented WR’s and we’re on the road to having a great offense.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Warner threw a pretty good deep ball and Tua does too. Just think that is the scheme/talent for him. Don’t see him as an Elway gunslinger, Marino just throw it or Peyton pick them apart guy. What kind of scheme were you thinking best suits his talents?

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

One that scores TD’s. What I’m saying is I don’t there should be any limitations in our offense. If we have 4 receivers on the field (TE included) and all are considered threats, watch this offense go. Bowden, Perry and Hollins just weren’t ready for prime time yet. No shame in that, it wasn’t expected that they would be getting the bulk of the playing time week 17. I think the QB has to have a confidence that #1 his guys can run the routes correctly and be where they’re supposed to be and also that they will make the catch. I can’t speak for Tua, but I don’t think he was playing with that confidence at all. I don’t want keep hearing the talk that Tua can only thrive in a short passing scheme, I don’t think that’s the case at all.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Heard Warner talking a few weeks ago. He said that they had to explain to him that certain Larry Fitzgerald looks meant he was open even if Warner didn’t get he was. He was a real vet QB at that point. Just saying would like to set up Tua in a situation like Warner had before. And I’m saying think Tua can be like HOF Warner. Not like I’m knocking him.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

They better vote that man in this time.

    MikeE,
regarding your Mets … it has seemed that they are the ONLY team left in MLB based on the off season moves within baseball as a whole. Mets doing a full transformation in just a few months. Wild! Bt baseball is one of those sports where a big turnover doesn’t necessarily impact on-field performance.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m not really thrilled with the trade. I’m tired of them depleting the minor leagues for guys who aren’t even under long term contracts. Lindor will be a FA next season unless the Mets get him to sign an extension. The Mets farm system was weak to begin with and now it’s even weaker. It takes years to replenish that. I suppose if you can afford to keep paying for FA’s then maybe it doesn’t even matter, but that’s like the Steinbrenner Yankees. I’d prefer not to be quite like that.

  18. Randy's avatar Randy says:

It seems like only yesterday that there were demands to start Tua….and now all he can do is throw short passes? Lol

  19. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

    HOF List:
Manning and Woodson I think are both locks.

next tier (that POP): Calvin Johnson, John Lynch

after that Barber, Allen, and Wayne. Man, how does Zach break through this list.?

    • D's avatar D says:

Id have him in ahead Barber and Wayne personally, Allen played a flashier position and at a high level, was very enigmatic on the field, he’s gonna be hard to beat for getting votes.

  20. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Stanger, yes, I watched the game and heard Warner’s commentary. I think there’s some truth to that for sure. Like I said, you have to have a relationship and a confidence with those receivers, feel like you have a mutual understanding of what you’re doing, a chemistry. With the way we were shuffling guys in and out of the lineup at the end of the season, I think it was pretty hard to accomplish that. Take into account both Bowden and Perry played QB their last season of college ball, it’s a lot to ask. I’m not saying that you’re knocking him but I see that sentiment all over twitter. People have already given up on Tua, and listening to WQAM with Joe Rose you get that impression that he doesn’t think Tua is the guy. I’ve had my own doubts as well, but I think they are unfair and unfounded.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Think hard to argue at this point that Tua will (as opposed to could) be elite, but that’s different from being a bust — which he is not. And you are right on about the receivers. And that’s not just injuries. Think his style doesn’t match up well with tall guys like Williams and Parker who need more specific throws. Think guys like Duper and Clayton are his style. And thinking they are coming to us in the draft.

      • D's avatar D says:

I think they need to move the pocket more, or at least bootleg a little more, he needs to move some, our OL needs to adjust to blocking for him to give him clearer throwing lanes, he also needs to learn to make them for himself if he is getting obscured. its a maturation process and he started late and came into a pressure cooker. The skills he has, he is easily capable of being an elite NFL QB, but patience is needed. He just needs chemistry with the receivers he like great QBs throw to a spot and he isnt used to the timing yet. Every time he has settled into some comfort with a guy that guy has gotten hurt and he settles in with another now he is hurt, so on so forth.

  21. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Mike,
Wow, that is a stacked list. I think Woodson has to be a shoo-in 1st ballot guy too.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yeah, I guess that’s why it’s the Hall of Fame. The best of the best! He was a great player but so are all those other guys, and unfortunately what hurts Zach a bit is there are already LB’s from that era that made it like Brian Urlacher. It’s tougher when you weren’t the best at your position in your era.

      • D's avatar D says:

Also hurts we didn’t have a Superbowl with him as the lead on our D that would have given him a good book mark in his resume.

      • D's avatar D says:

Team you were own shouldn’t matter, but it does, or being part of a top ranker unit, or like Mike said were top of the list at your position several years or one outstanding year or two, like TD

  22. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

LOL Rhino – I’m not really complaining vociferously. I think I always love building a team, just like the Dolphins are doing it right now. A bunch of young players that hopefully become elite together. That’s more exciting to me than buying a championship, but I’ll take it either way. The Mets do have a nice young core of players like Conforto, Alonso, McNeil etc. but I wish we had some more coming up the pipeline.

  23. D's avatar D says:

Jared Allen, Defensive End – 2004-07 Kansas City Chiefs, 2008-2013 Minnesota Vikings, 2014-15 Chicago Bears, 2015 Carolina Panthers
Calvin Johnson, Wide Receiver – 2007-2015 Detroit Lions
Peyton Manning, Quarterback – 1998-2011 Indianapolis Colts (injured reserved 2011), 2012-15 Denver Broncos
Zach Thomas, Linebacker – 1996-2007 Miami Dolphins, 2008 Dallas Cowboys
    Charles Woodson, Cornerback/Safety – 1998-2005, 2013-15 Oakland Raiders, 2006-2012 Green Bay Packers
    ————————————————————–
I really could see this as the final list and maybe a little homeraide in that 5th spot, but not much.

What really pisses me off is Boselli and Faneca on that list and no Webb. Webb was a better LT than Boselli, and a better overall OL at his position than Faneca.

Can we all talk about something other than Tua please? It is so divisive….

Hate to say this, no REALLY, but I’m with ORob on this one. He’s not the one nor will he ever be. (IMO) He will waste 4 more years of my life and then Flo will get canned and I will have to deal with this all over again. I am getting thin (in a Stone Temple Pilot way) and am less enthusiastic about it each go round.

Flo wont play him for 4 years if he’s not the 1….

    • sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I think Flo has shown that he’s not willing to commit to someone if they aren’t getting it done. If he can’t make it happen next year, I think he’ll be replaced.

  29. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Thanks Wy I have Fanspeak premium for a couple more days, which has the multiple big boards, plus lets you trade, but I am not going to pay for it again this year. I’m gonna check out first pick.

  30. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I will say that the offense DID click with him there for a couple of games when they let him play up-tempo. He still didn’t do much yard wise or TD wise but the run game and pass game in combination moved the ball well enough and he had low yards high passer rating and were able to score. He has never thrown more than two TD’s in a game for us. THAT sucks.

  31. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I tried Draft Network yesterday and got frustrated and quit after trying two. they are so desperate to get an add in your face that they layer multiple pop ups on the top, both sides and bottom of the screen and restrict the “useful” area of the screen to a postage stamp. (only 2-3 picks visible and have to scroll to see more) I won’t go back there.

  32. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think it’s pretty damn clear that Flo is here to win. If Tua isn’t getting it done it will be he who is gone, not Flo. On the other hand, I’m just shocked at the total lack of confidence and perspective some of you have with Tua. Not every QB explodes from day 1. Not specifically about Tua but Bill Polian says evaluating anyone this year is so difficult due to the circumstances and illustrated that with numerous examples. One such example was the Texans/Titans game when Tannehill threw that deep bomb to A.J. Brown to set up the win. He spoke to the coaches and they explained that they just didn’t get the opportunities this season to go over situational play. Like the end of the game when you have to have a guy deep as a safety valve but they didn’t. You can believe it or not, but I think Polian is a very smart football guy and I take stock in what he says. if Tua sucks after a normal preseason and 1st team reps the entire offseason then you guys can bitch and moan all you like. Until then, I just don’t see it. He wasn’t so bad, it was one game where it all went off the rails. I’ll wait till next year to dismiss him.

This is pretty much my assessement.

You mean Nick Foles? Wentz was hurt and OUT, as per usghe, but yeah, he’s a big guy, so you love ’em! LMAO
    ________________________________________

I’m not “big guy” racist Mike, Nick Foles finished the season but Wentz got them to the dance, as for injury prone, injuries happen in the NFL, look at Tannehill.
just a thought, i highly doubt they would consider Wentz at all, if they did and ate his contract he would be the starter and i think this regime is still blinded by Tua.

Being that Tua is floating in a sea of BUST! we should definitely attain a QB whether drafting one or FAcy, not sure Fitz will be back.

  47. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

aware of the FO Tua delusion, i’m thinking we will trade back, a host of teams will be competing for that #3 pick to get the qb, I believe jets are good with Darnold and will take the tackle at 2.
i think we may be very happy with the return on #3 overall.

  48. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

we could trade back to 8 and still get Parsons

  49. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I don’t think there’s FO delusion…there’s certainly not field level coach delusion.

Flores pulled Tua for not getting the job done twice. If he could have pulled him in the last game he would have.

Trial by fire is always a good test though…imo.

If you believe there is a generational talent at pick #3
(I don’t have a clue) you take him, no matter the position. Right?

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I would most of the time and especially at OT. I think Parsons will almost be as good but would rather get Sewell or get Parsons if we trade back and he’s still there. I would really like Devonta but it always depends on where we end up picking. He’s not a generational talent, just a really good WR.

I would never pick a generational RB at 3. I wouldn’t with safety, Center, and obviously with a kicker but all other positions, I’d probably do it.

  52. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Why does someone else’s problem guy always have more promise than our own guy? Tua was a better prospect than Carson Wentz, simple as that. He’s been in the league for 5 seasons and has finished 2 of them playing every game. He’s a good QB, but I think he’s another guy who was running the ball effectively until he got hit and got hurt. His own drafted his replacement and he looked off this season. Maybe some team will resurrect Wentz like the Titans did with Tannehill, who knows. We have our own QB that deserves an opportunity and he’s going to get it because he should get it.

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

It doesn’t matter, no chance we consider Wentz,
Tua has shown he can’t play in the NFL, look at his stats.
      teams shut him down offensively.
      can he correct that?
can this coaching staff put a band aid on him?
maybe but why should they have too?
they may want to take a long look at themselves and make better decisions.
Grier has been a part of this FO for a long time and we still see bad decisions with valuable picks.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

yup, opinions are like but holes. Everyone’s got one and the all stink to someone else.

Dolphins should draft the best QB in they can reach in this draft and trade Tua for a ham sandwich (turkey if they can get it)

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

It’s rather funny how last year Parker was the MVP, this year he sucks,
      what happened in 1 year?
oh yeah, he no longer had Fitz.
Twice when Tua was replaced with Fitz the offense rolled again, was that just coincidence?
it’s the wheel, it’s the nut behind it.

  53. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Wentz would end being the most expensive backup in the history of the NFL.

  54. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Talking about stats, Wentz was horrible this year. 57% completion rate in a league where holding wasn’t called? 11 of his 12 games, he didn’t even get 275 yards. He didn’t even have a single 3 TD game and he’s a 5 year player. Sounds like a much worse Jalen Hur…..oh, yeah, the guy who replaced him as a rookie. Yeah, I’ll pass on that kind of excellence.

  55. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

trade back and take patrick surtain, that could be a possibility as Flores loves his DBs

Oh, have I told you guys that Tua SUCKS!?
    That is all. Carry on.

  72. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I don’t get the sense that Flores thinks his team’s wins are dependent on having an all pro QB. I think he plans to win with defense, solid special teams and keeping the games close with a chance to win it late. I think part of that is having a ball control offense that limits mistakes and doesn’t cough up the ball much. He is more than happy to win ugly and isn’t concerned with scoring 35 points because his defense will make that unnecessary most weeks. Tua is a pretty good fit for that sort of philosophy. Fans might not like it, but I doubt Flores gives a damn what we like.
    ***
I would agree we need more offensive tools, no doubt. But, I won’t be surprised if we see more defensive picks. We could easily add a LB, S, CB, DE/OLB/pass rusher to this defense. While I won’t be surprised if they draft a WR high, I would be surprised to see them draft a RB high. I really think they could go in just about any direction in this draft because this team still has needs all over the place, and I’d have no problem if they decide to continue building this defense a little more.

  73. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I highly doubt fitz stays in miami, He will be a sought after free agent with a good chance to start for another team, not to mention his buddy chan is gone.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I think Fitz being sought after to be a starter is a little over the top Rob. He is 38 and was never Brady. Brady at 40 maybe, Fitz at 40? No one will be banging down his door.

I know folks got excited about 10 wins this year, but this team still has a lot of holes to fill if they wanna take that next step. I just can’t see any major trades going down where we give up lots of draft capital. Part of how you rebuild nowadays is having a young QB on a cheap contract so you can still build. Signing a QB to a huge deal early on in the process is counterproductive.

    • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You were excited too. We were in Phase II of turning this team over and exceeded expectations. If we finished 8-8 or 7-9 Grier and Flores would still have the same plan in place. Even they think we’re not where we want to be yet.

I think Fitz being sought after to be a starter is a little over the top Rob.

the pats might make a play for fitz

my mvp for this season has to be andrew van ginkle

  95. im a bit dissapointed in CHristian WIlkins though, he should have stepped it up , and did not do as well as he is capable of.

in the Bills game, WIlkins, along with many others, was super glued to the blockers and getting manhandled, SMH

  96. i would like the fins to draft Trey Lance so the Pats dont get him.
this reminds me of when the Fins failed to draft Josh Allen, look at how the bills improved with allen, SMH
that could have been us, but the team didnt draft a QB then, even though ALLen was a no brainer future NFL star with the strongest arm in the NCAA at the time

Have not you heard? we don’t need a QB we have the HOFer Tua 100yardavavaloa!

      • we have an extra amount of draft capital, and Fitz is old, we could def use a QB like Lance
Tua is the franchise starter , and will be awesome when he gets better WR than Hollins, Grant, and Ford

heres a stat for U to chew on, check out the amount of seperation that WR get per team
KC is number 1, think that makes it easier for Mahomes? it sure does,
TUA will surprise You when the team has better receivers, and a better OC< Gailey is gone
i dont know what a hundred yards has to do with anything, because Tua had over 300 when the team gave up 56 points in Buffalo

u think TUa lost the game by himself? Flores said the team was beat in all three phases, offense, defense, and ST
