2021 Position Outlook – DL

The Dolphins are building a nice foundation of young defensive players along the defensive line. The last 2 years, the Dolphins drafted 2 key pieces for the D-line, 2019 1st RD pick (#13) Christian Wilkins and 2020 2nd RD pick (#56) Raekwon Davis. WIlkins has played a ton of snaps at both NT and DE while Davis slowly increased his playing time at NT, especially after NT Davon Godchaux went down due to injury. Godchaux who was drafted in the 5th RD of the 2017 draft had been a very solid, if unspectacular player for the Dolphins. He played all 16 games in 2019 finishing with 75 tackles, 7 QB hits and 4 TFL along with 2 sacks. He’s a free agent in 2021 and I’d like to sign him, even with the emergence of Raekwon Davis. The problem is, the salary cap shrunk this season due to COVID-19 ramifications to revenues but if he’s willing to take a deal with the team that’s cap friendly, he may be back in the fold.

Emmanuel Ogbah made a big impact early in the season but then almost faded out and disappeared later in the season. Through the first 8 games of the season, Ogbah had 7 sacks. The 2nd half he managed on 2 more sacks in 8 games. Ogbah will be a free agent after this season. That could be good for the Dolphins in 2021 because Ogbah will be playing for his next contract, whether that’s here or somewhere else. Another important free agent acquisition, although it was late 2019, not 2020 was DE Zach Sieler. Sieler was a pleasant surprise last season. Sieler was a 7th RD draft pick of the Baltimore Ravens. What nice gem unearthed by the Dolphins. Sieler barely got any playing time in Baltimore but the Dolphins obviously saw something there. He played 52% of the defensive snaps last season and he was very active if you watched the games.Sieler finished with 48 tackles, and check this out, 11 tackles for loss. That’s getting into the opposing teams backfield a lot, and finishing the play.He also added 11 QB hits and 3.5 sacks.

Raekwon Davis, the giant on the DL got 12 starts at NT last season. His presence may allow the Dolphins to move on from Davon Godchaux, that will depend on how much it takes to keep Davon here and how much he wants to be here. Davis is such a presence on the D-line at 6’6 311 and I think he might get even bigger and add more bulk. Davis showed a lot of promise last season. I think what we really need is another pass rusher. That can be accomplished by getting either a DE or a pass rushing OLB. In the 2021 NFL Draft, edge rusher Gregor Rousseau would be a nice pick. Very long, and not just another speed guy. Rousseau actually wins with leverage and technique. Rousseau is 6’7 260 and has elite size. One caveat is he only gave 1 full season of production. He opted out last season due to COVID-19, but in 2019 he had a great season for the Miami Hurricanes, posting 15.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss. forced 2 fumbles and recovered 1. That’s making an impact! Other edge rushers would be Michigan’s Kwity Paye (6’4 272), MIami’s Jaelan Phillips (6’5 266), Pitts Patrick Jones II (6’5 260) and I’m sure as always, you have your favorites not yet listed.

We could also be looking for a DT/DE in the draft. Alabama’s Christian Barmore (6’5 310), slightly undersized Washington’s Levi Onwuzurike (6’3 288), Iowa’s Daviyon Nixon (6’3 305). I do think there is potential we can re-sign Davon Godchaux, he definitely excelled here, but he may only be a rotational piece in our defense and therefore he could easily get outpriced if he can get starter money elsewhere. Carlos Basham Jr. (6’5 280) is another athlete can play multiple positions. He could play either DE or inside on pass rush downs. He has the size, length and quickness and is very disruptive spending a lot of time in opposing teams side of the LOS. In free agency, there are quite a few young D-linemen available. I can’t see us spending major money on one, but Leonard Williams (27), Larry Ogunjobi (27), Trey Hendrickson (27), and Deatrich Wise (26). We also have our own depth guys that will hopefully take a step forward like DT Benito Jones and DE Jason Strowbridge. I don’t expect us to be active much in FA but we may choose to get one or two pieces on either side of the ball.

    Good article MikeE!

I think for me, it comes down to what happens with Davon Godchaux. If he walks, I am leaning toward a DT/NT space eater like Barmore. If we resign him, I think that opens thing up to get either a space eater or a more athletic and disruptive DT like Seiler.

    • Mike E. says:

      Thanks BBM!

    • stangerx says:

BBM — I’d like to keep Godchaux. But like with any player comes down to the price. How much is a good 3rd DT in the rotation worth? Some other team might be willing to give him starters’ money.

If not is Barmore going high? Wouldn’t like to spend one of our first four picks either. A mid-level FA might do.

  2. New Age says:

    Mike E,

Good article and personally I like my AM (Asshole Mike) in the Morning with a big cup of Joe but whatever works for you. 😉

I hope work calms down but unfortunately I don’t think the politics will too much. I’ll try to lower that output too.

On the DL, we need a DE but the DTs should be ok. I’d be ok with Godchaux or even a later pick. Wilkins and Davis will be the primary talent inside for a while.

    • Mike E. says:

Wilkins and Davis are definitely the primary guys going forward, and like I said, Ogbah is a FA next year so we have to have to prepare for him to potentially leave or to pay him a bundle if he plays well enough for us to want to continue to have his services. Still, so many of these players on the D-line play multiples and can play either end or NT. I’d love to find a disruptive DT/NT

      • Mike E. says:

Oh, and LOL at AM! I’ve been ornery for sure and I suppose asshole isn’t out of the question. 😛

      • New Age says:

Just messing with you. I think you’re one of the most balanced people on here and enjoy your posts. I’d enjoy another disruptive guy and if our offense wasn’t so bad with Tua last year, I’d really love to get Barmore. He was really disruptive in the championship. I didn’t watch nearly as much college this year and most of the games were SEC so my knowledge of guys is lacking this year.

    Mike

Don’t worry about anything you said, I generally think you are a jerk anyway….😃

Also I bought a new iPad yesterday
I dowloaded the new photoshop but not sure how I feel about it bc it’s a monthly charge

But I did draft a blog yesterday. I just can’t figure out how to post photos anymore…lol

I’m gonna play around with it later, hopefully I can pitch in an add to your posts

I just got to work through some of the tech stuff
    Reply

    • Mike E. says:

Sounds good! I used to have some kind of basic photoshop program but it was outdated to start. I haven’t tried to get a new one because I basically suck at most things tech. lol

    • Mike E. says:

Isn’t there a photoshop you can get where you just pay for the program itself, or do you have to constantly update it which necessitates the monthly charge?

    • Mike E. says:

There are 2 ways to post photos in an article, either by uploading them to the blog and saving them, or you can just put them in by the URL link, do whatever is easier for you. The ones you upload stay in the memory so you can re-use them any time.

  4. stangerx says:

Least for the folks in this poll….. buying the right wing facts. Or is it they do know and just want to support the cause? BTW — Trump rally gone bad a perfectly supportable position.
    ————————–
“Asked to describe what happened during the assault on the Capitol, 58% of Trump voters call it “mostly an antifa-inspired attack that only involved a few Trump supporters.””

    • New Age says:

Most people have a hard time admitting there are bad people or people with low information and low self control in their groups. It’s very similar to the people who can’t admit that many of the summer riots were not peaceful. Or the people who won’t admit that the White House was stormed during the BLM riots but it was ok since they went after Trump.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/11752998/trump-secure-bunker-friday-george-floyd-protests-white-house/ . People forget Trump was moved for his safety but I never saw a single person charged or the media focus on it for months.

      • stangerx says:

Don’t think the White House was ever stormed, but right with you other than that. Lots of riots and looting involved with the Floyd protest, even in my area (but relatively light here).

I just can’t see denying what happened happened….. saying it was done by the other side even worse. And didn’t see the Floyd stuff blamed on Trump folks.

  5. Mike E. says:

Tim – That’s so unfair that you can only lease them, although i suppose you don’t have to worry about purchasing anything that can get outdated. If they come out with a new version, can you stop and switch, or is it actually a preset monthly lease for a certain amount of time?

    • Tim Knight says:

When the program has updates you don’t have to pay for it, it’s included in your monthly fee. So you’re always up to date.

  6. Tim Knight says:

Stanger, I have liberal friends who claimed much of the rioting was done by Trump supporters and white supremacists to make BLM look bad. They couldn’t accept that BLM became an extreme violent radical group.

    • stangerx says:

And they are idiots too. This was 58% of Trump voters though. Have a hard time thinking over half of Biden voters would say the looting incidents were Trump folk. And they were mostly black.

      • Tim Knight says:

It’s the radical political types on both sides that control the narrative with their bias views. It’s really disheartening to see people willing to deny the truth because they have to support their team.

      • steveccnv says:

There were confirmed BLM at the capital in January.

Many videos show BLM people in Trump shirts and hats.

      • stangerx says:

steve — great info. Out of the thousands of people there not doubting there were some antifa and BLM folks.

But poll answer was “mostly an antifa-inspired attack that only involved a few Trump supporters.” Do you believe that? Everyone arrested was pure Trump for starters.

      • Tim Knight says:

Steve, nothing surprises me anymore. There were multiple Democrat politicians that incited violence in the streets that many people turned a blind eye to. Then when the Capitol riot happened it was the most reprehensible thing ever. Hypocrisy is everywhere.

  7. Mike E. says:

Stanger – I’m sure there were Trump supporters in that crowd. I’m almost as sure there were shit stirrers from Antifa as well. It doesn’t matter. It was all wrong. It never should have happened. I don’t blame Trump for the incident, but he’s an asshole whether he instigated it or not. I hope we’ve seen the last of him politically.

  8. New Age says:

    Mike E,

I quit a stressful job I liked ok for a better paying, easier one. My old employer also liked to overburden and I didn’t realize how much until the new job. Always better to get away from stress so good luck on your next stop!

    • Mike E. says:

Thanks New Age. I feel like I might have to take a pay cut, but if the benefits package is better, more vacation time, better hours etc, to me, that will be worth it in spades. I’m going to be 58, not sure how many more years I’m going to work, but I’d like to not be miserable my last few years.

  9. mf13ss says:

I was stuck on the last blog! LOL
    Thank you, Stanger!

  10. stangerx says:

Never thought I’d be asking Gov Ron DeSantis for anything. But Trump’s Mini-Me has the chance to do me a solid now. Yeah I’m 55 and want that Golden Ticket. DeSantis is Willy Wonka.

“Broward Mayor Steve Geller wants people over 55…..Hoping to expand the vaccination priority list, Geller has asked Gov. Ron DeSantis for help.”

  11. pheloniusphish says:

NFL declines comment on Xavien Howard situation

I disagree with MF’s analysis of the Howard situation. One shot, ten shots, 100 shots fired blindly into a house is attempted murder. Caliber doesn’t matter – If your house isn’t stone, there is little in most houses that will stop a bullet from traveling through multiple room. Second, Howard’s phone number wasn’t the only connection. Read the initial post. The car belongs to a woman associated with Howard. At least one of the names in the report is an associate of Howard. The person of interest has disappeared.

Howard may be and is in the eyes of the law innocent until proven guilty. But then there would be no reason not to talk to the police. I think it is more likely that, as someone suggested earlier, Howard knows something about the situation, perhaps the whereabouts of the person of interest, that he does not want to share with investigators.

  12. New Age says:

    Stanger,

I wouldn’t take anything a poll says with any confidence whatsoever. Most of them use probability meters and the methodology cannot be confirmed in the least bit. Might as well ask my Amazon Echo for hard hitting reporting. Many of the largest fuckups by climate modeling and the early COVID models were…..probability measuring from similar systems.

    • stangerx says:

It’s sorta ironic. I trust polls less these days cause people don’t trust polls (and try to game them when they are part of them). Same time have been involved with some back in the day…… the folks who do them try their best.

I’m not going to speculate but if Howard was involved that’s really f’ed up.

      • mf13ss says:

Why would Howard do this to his at-the-time agent? That doesn’t make sense to me, especially after Bilbo helped him to one of the greatest CB contracts of all-time.

        It doesn’t add up.

      • Tim Knight says:

I’d be really surprised if Howard had anything to do with it. Where he is in career and life that would be such a stupid thing to do. But I’ll let the officials and lawyers take care of it. I have no desire to speculate about it.

  15. mf13ss says:

I disagree with MF’s analysis of the Howard situation. One shot, ten shots, 100 shots fired blindly into a house is attempted murder.
    —————–
I disagree with this assessment. IMO, it was clearly not attempted murder. Had it been, the shot would have been a “kill shot”. Don’t know enough about the case, but I highly doubt anybody was in the room that was shot into. Why? It would have been front page news the day after it happened, back in June of 2020, reported as an attempted murder/assassination.

    Regarding Xavien Howard…

Why would Bilbo (Baggins) only recently name him as a possible link to the shooting that took place last June (2020)? It was on January 10th (a little over a month ago), 2021, that Xavien signed with David Canter… meaning, Xavien was still under Bilbo’s employ at the time of the shooting.

A single shot was fired from a 9, and it was clearly not a ‘death shot’ (seemed to be a warning shot)… suspect drove off immediately afterward. I get that the driver allegedly seems to have a link to Xavien (phone records), but that doesn’t mean Xavien had anything to do with it. I’m sure MANY people had links to the alleged driver, and this may have had NOTHING to do with football.

With the little that we know (and I know Bilbo’s history as an agent), it would seem to me that this is sour grapes. Bilbo is pissed off that Xavien dropped him some 6 months after the shooting, going with Canter instead, and Xavien just had a DPOY-type season.

Pleading #5A should not implicate Xavien, either. To me, this is a non-story but for one thing: Bilbo is jealous of Canter (who I know rather well, too… we’ve talked privately from time-to-time about players), and Bilbo is trying to drop the stock of Xavien as a result.

That’s the way I see it. The timeline is not in Bilbo’s favor, IMO.

  17. pheloniusphish says:

M – What is this ‘kill’ shot of which you speak? You throw a 1/4 ounce of lead traveling at 1200 FPS through an occupied house, you are trying to kill someone. You just don’t know who is going to catch the bullet.

I doubt that Howard had anything to do with it, but I’ll bet it comes out that he knows something about it.

    • mf13ss says:

Let me put it in a different fashion: who/what was the shooter aiming at? No, it wasn’t at a person: it was a random shot to scare. You could — in fact — call it an act of terrorism… but it wasn’t a “kill shot”. Thus, it was not attempted murder.

      • stangerx says:

The agent wasn’t even at home, just his wife and kid. Whatever this was about does not seem well planned.

      • mf13ss says:

        Yessir…

      • pheloniusphish says:

Dude – Anytime you fire into an occupied building you are trying to kill someone. Period. Whether you mean to hit someone or do so randomly, you are committing murder. The fact that they missed does not absolve them or change the fact that they tried to kill someone.

  18. mf13ss says:

Steve Ross has got to be >UP TO HERE< with the BS that surrounds this team. I'd swear… there's a very concerted effort to destroy this franchise, for whatever reason. Don't know how far it dates back, but things haven't been in our favor since the retirement of Marino.

    Very strange shit…

  19. stangerx says:

Howard might not have to talk to the cops…. but then there is Roger Goodell.

    • pheloniusphish says:

That’s right. Hope he banked some of that dough.

    • mf13ss says:

And that there is some BULLSHIT, that a company/organization can actually relieve an employee of their #5A.

Geez, now I’m getting trapped into a political convo! I don’t want to do this!!! But, it is about our best Defensive player in Xavien Howard. SVUCKS!!!

      • stangerx says:

Say I kill someone (or didn’ t) and the trial is gonna be like 9 months from now. Should my boss be able to ask me what happened?

      • mf13ss says:

NO. Your employer is your workplace, and should have zero control of you outside of it.
Unless one is a high-profile individual, endorsing the place of employment, NO, one’s employer should have no say in one’s life outside of the workplace.

I fundamentally disagree. As I said, it can and should be prosecuted as an act of TERRORISM. Which, by the way, carries heavier jail terms than a shooting that inadvertently kills someone.

You just said, “it’s clear I did it”. I get what you’re saying, but we must keep in mind INNOCENT until proven guilty. Now, in a charge where it’s “clear I did it”, and there’s overwhelming evidence even before trial… yeah, that’s rather difficult in terms of what to do.

Don’t get too far ahead of yourself, though… we were talking about the Fifth Amendment, my friend. And in this case what with Xavien Howard, I’m not seeing any kind of overwhelming evidence whatsoever.

I say this to you with respect, Stanger.

I hope Xavien Howard is exonerated of the charges levied against him by the Hobbit, 8 months after the fact.

    • mf13ss says:

And to be CLEAR, Xavien was only mentioned as a possible connection to the driver. The drive-by media is trying to make connections, thus increasing their internet ‘hits’ for ratings. PFT is one of the WORST in the biz, headed by little Mike Floria. Keep that in mind…

  23. The Flying Pig says:

I read that story and there is really an wide open gap in the logic that connects Howard to any of it

It was his former agent and theres some connection with a car

If Howard was a person of interest the authorities have subpoena power, they don’t have to wait for him to agree to an interview

That incident is a year old – why is it coming back up again?

If they thought Howard was a suspect or a witness to a crime, they could have taken action a long time ago.

It really doesn’t make any sense for this to resurface

    • Tim Knight says:

This reminds me of cops going to the wrong house with a knock-first warrant – ignoring it and shooting and killing a black woman sleeping peacefully in her bed. Did that ever make sense? No it didn’t because that’s not what happened at all. A bias narrative is a dangerous weapon in the information age. We’re in very fucked up times.

  24. The Flying Pig says:

Is that the only way me floating that story around – PFF and Florio?

  25. Tim Knight says:

So I’m channel surfing and there is ’60 Minutes’ with their ‘White Supremacist’ accusations courtesy of Lesley Stahl. Murder – the killing of another human being under conditions specifically covered in law. In the U.S., special statutory definitions include murder committed with malice aforethought, characterized by deliberation or premeditation or occurring during the commission of another serious crime, as robbery or arson (first-degree murder, ormurder one ), and murder by intent but without deliberation or premeditation (second-degree murder, ormurder two ).

  27. pheloniusphish says:

Piggy – PFT is here I saw it. Don’t know if it is elsewhere. They don’t really say why they want to talk to Howard and did not identify him as a person of interest.

  28. steveccnv says:

The reason Howard is a suspect is, because he has a connection with the driver and the agent. Others don’t have a connection to both.

From what I read they really don’t have anything and want to talk to Howard to fish around.

Howard surely knows something, but may or may not be involved directly.

What I haven’t heard was if the driver had a connection with the agent, other than thru Xavier

  29. steveccnv says:

Howard changing agents to get a higher contract might just be speculation.

Maybe he had a problem with the agent, and that’s why he dropped him.

If the 2nd scenario is true, then he’s got some splainning to do

This is a good article about X. Even without this new drama, is he worth paying more with a smaller salary cap market? I’d say no. He hasn’t produced at the current level but once and has been injury prone at his peak. remember Josh Norman wanting that new deal and moving on…to mediocrity. Spot on article

      • steveccnv says:

Except it really doesn’t tell us anything we don’t already know.

I hope Howard is involved enough, that he doesn’t get a new contract, but doesn’t get charged and plays for us this year

  33. steveccnv says:

Howard is in the role of a husband whose wife was attempted murder on, and having contact with the driver makes him the person with the most to gain.

Jimmy do me a favor, go to my agents house and fire a warning shot into his house isn’t a far fetched story and the one that’s most likely to have happened.

They still have to prove it, but they do have motive and a connection.

Howard may not play for us one way or another in 2021.

I don’t see him as being the hood type, but he may be naive enough, that he didn’t think he could get into trouble for it.

What needs to come out is what’s the beef with his agent?

  34. steveccnv says:

My top want at 18 is Zaven Collins. Doesn’t really make much sense to take Najee at 18, when the top RB last year went at 32 and we have a pick at 36. If we loose out on Najee there’s 3 other RBs that will suffice, but if we loose out on Collins I don’t see anyone that will work.

WR not at 3, but after a trade down, Collins at 18, then 1 of top4 RBs at 36 would be a great start to our draft. If we can’t trade down, it must be Penei.

If we could get one of those fantasy trade downs, like I’ve seen in some mock drafts, from 3 to 6 to 9 and pick up 2 additional 1sts next year and still get someone like Waddle or Parsons at 9, then this draft will be off the charts

  35. steveccnv says:

Have we ever had an FA class as good as the one we had in 2020? Not exactly comparing apples to apples like other years, because we had so much money, but…

Karras was the only one of the 11 unrestricted free agents the Dolphins brought in last offseason to start all 16 games, though guard Ereck Flowers (14), defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah (12), linebacker Kyle Van Noy (13), cornerback Byron Jones (14) and Roberts (11) all started more than 10 games. Edge defender Shaq Lawson started seven games and played 55 percent of the Dolphins’ defensive snaps.

I’d think that Roberts doesn’t have much of an FA market, because he’s hurt and won’t play the entire season, so we should sign him to a smallish 1 year contract

  36. steveccnv says:

Howard should be praising Byron Jones and the team for signing Jones and not trying to get a higher contract, because it was Jones playing opposite him that netted more throws his way, resulting in the 10 ints

  37. Howard has trade value if the fins decide they wish to part ways, i wouldnt take less than a number 1 for him, but teams might not bid more than a third , depending on how events play out

it may be best to trade down this year to get more players

  38. The Flying Pig says:

The only relevant thing I see from the Howard news is that the Dolphins want to tread cautiously in negotiating a new contract in case something comes out later

But on these facts thar we know, no one should be assuming Howard did something wrong

there is no way anything reported equals any kind of criminal action against him

The police knew all the facts reported a year ago and never considered him a suspect or took any legal action to subpoena him. They haven’t even arrested anyone who fired a gun.

They asked to investigate him again and he declined. The key phrase is again. His attorney has Informed the public that he has in the past interviewed with police. They spoke to him last year.

This isn’t some sort of rich athletes privilege, we all have the right to decline an interview over and over again. There is obviously no kind of forensic evidence a year removed from a crime. It’s all circumstantial at this point. The last thing you want to do is open the door to an aggressive prosecutor to charge you with a crime you know nothing about bc he thinks you have motive. It’s not nefarious to decline to interview with the police after you e already told them what you know.

It kind of reads to me as if the police are at a dead end and the only thing they have now is what they view as motive by Howard to be involved in this. But a year removed from the act – it’s unusual to ask for a new interview if you ask me.

As to Florio’s suggestion that the nfl send it’s own investigator to take action – are you flicking kidding me? What are they going to do hire shoe white shoe law firm to prep a 100 page memo….

    • pheloniusphish says:

You know you would take their money to write a 100 page memo….

    • The Flying Pig says:

I mean take a step back for a moment

It’s fucking crazy to treat an unresolved crime like it’s actually a crime by some one just bc they refused to speak with the police AGAIN and you think that person has motive

When some one is accused of something they get their day in court.

That’s doesn’t always me we as ordinary citizens have to assume they are innocent until proven guilty, I’m okay with applying common sense if you think some one is guilty of something, but Im sorry, if I am supposed to assume Howard put a hit out on his agent bc he was having an argument about money, I need a lot more facts connecting the two.

So let’s not talk about Howard like he’s guilty just bc some journalists have access to new materials the police had a year to that never lead to a criminal charge

There’s a reason there is no criminal charge to date. It’s Bc the facts known don’t suppprt as charge. Treat the case that way, not like he did something wrong bc people are writing about it now….come on guys…

  39. Rockphin says:

The Dunwoody, Georgia, police department said Monday that it has closed a case which identified Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard as a person of interest — but not a suspect — in an unsolved Atlanta-area shooting from last summer in which no one was hurt but one round pierced a child’s playroom.

The home is owned by sports agent Damarius Bilbo, who represented Howard until the two parted ways sometime after October.

Howard’s name appeared in the June 29 police report about the shooting. Also named in the report: Ray Gibson, 29; Angelica Brown, 27, whose car was spotted at the crime scene; and Leonardo “Ken” Underwood, 45, a Howard associate who appeared to be in contact with Gibson multiple times on the day of the attack before it happened.

    • pheloniusphish says:

Good. Won’t hurt his trade value then.

    • The Flying Pig says:

They named them all in a report but didn’t arrest or charge one person

      That’s pretty relevant

    • stangerx says:

Gotta believe closing the case now had a lot to do with it hitting the news a few days ago. And if they had nothing the right thing to do. We’ve talked about how it impacts X for starters. The other folks too, even if not in as public a way.

  40. Ken says:

Interesting that Howard wants to renegotiate his contract and then a story about about a very remote connection to a shooting at his agent’s house after about 8 months of absolutely no activity into any real investigation into the incident. Just saying

    F’n F NO! STUPID! F’N STUPID!

  42. The Flying Pig says:

    Generally speaking
I would prefer the nfl and sports media let the authorities do their job

If there is no criminal charge and they dropped the case, that’s it

Florio implies that something might happen when the Dolphins play Atlanta next year…..lol

I laughed. Is that the way criminal investigations work now. If you are visiting, we charge you….wtf….

Sounds good to me. Going to rob some banks now in places I never plan to go for a weekend getaway. I should get away with it bc I will never visit later.

These people reporting these things don’t know what they are talking about…except they want clicks

  43. Rockphin says:

I was looking for a response Meme to Stanger’s post calling me the less good looking Rock and found this which I think is hilarious.

Here is a picture of Ken’s lesser known cousin the “Credible” Hulk. LOL

  44. stangerx says:

Our DBs are awesome as a group, but also might be a case of you get what you pay for: “Only two other teams in the NFL spend within $10M as much as what the Dolphins are committed to in the secondary.”

One of those teams is the Pats. Could be part of what Flores learned from the Evil One.

    • Ken says:

I was disappointed in Byron Jones. I saw him him get toasted too many times this season for me to believe he is worth his contact. He was repeatedly burnt to a crisp in the Nelson fucking Agolahr who is really a middle of the road WR

  45. Mike E. says:

Dolphins Twitter is blowing up because a reporter asked DeVonta Smith which QB he prefers, Mac Jones or Tua. Smith said Mac Jones. All the Tua supporters are saying fuck Smith, don’t draft him. All the Tua haters are saying “See, everyone hates Tua!!”

It beyond stupid. If Smith had a brain in his head he would have said I’d love to play for either one of them, but then again, can’t kill him for his honesty. He just needs to learn how things are done.

  46. steveccnv says:

For clarification its backwards to say, because Howard is seeking a new contract this story came out. Howard asking about a new contract has been out for quite a while. I wonder, if the Fins leaked the story, because they don’t want to pay Howard🤔

    • The Flying Pig says:

I would be really upset at the organization did that for leverage

      But nothing was leaked

People are just reporting an old story

      • steveccnv says:

        Why now?

      • steveccnv says:

I’d be really upset, if the Fins give him a new contract.

I bet shit happens all the time where one side does something shady to gain leverage

      • stangerx says:

Keep in mind this was about the agent that Howard cut ties with. My money is on him trying to screw up X’s life. And he very well might think Howard made it happen, rightly or not.

      • steveccnv says:

Makes sense Stanger, you’ve been doing an awful lot of that lately 🤫

  47. steveccnv says:

Some of you guys have the most backwards thinking I’ve ever seen. I have some ideas where it comes from.

No other place in the world do you see people root for things to occur, that aren’t in their best interest.

It’s in our best interest as Fins fans to have each player count as little against the cap as possible, why would we want Howard to get a new contract?

    • The Flying Pig says:

      Bc he earned it

    • steveccnv says:

You don’t earn a new contract just, because you had 1 phenomenal year, after missing so many games in the past.

It’s not like he’s underpaid, but the point is why would you want him to get a new contract that hurts the salary cap, and it hurts the team?

Do you root for a team, because you want their players compensated well or to win?

  48. CavalierKong says:

    https://larrybrownsports.com/baseball/barry-bonds-shocked-intentional-walk-bases-loaded/574158

This story is about Bonds’ reaction to the game where the Diamondbacks were up 2 in the bottom of the 9th, the Giants had the bases loaded, and the Diamondbacks walked Bonds.

You may ask, what happened then?

Well, in Whoville they say – that Bonds small head grew three sizes that day. And then – the true meaning of Christmas came through, and Bonds found the strength of ten Bonds’, plus two!
    .
    .
    and the Giants lost.

  49. The Flying Pig says:

    Steve

You think it’s okay for the team to leak a story about a criminal allegation about a player after a career year just to get a better contract and more cap room?

    • steveccnv says:

No, of course not, but I want everyone to follow the rules and do things the right way, but that isn’t what I said, its what I thought they might’ve done

  50. pheloniusphish says:

The Rock Stanger was referring too

  51. stangerx says:

I don’t follow the news enough. Had no idea that the NRA filed for bankruptcy. Knew lots of corruption allegations but didn’t know had reached that point. When I was doing my political stuff their folks were the gold standard.

    • they were corrupt alright, always buying off politicians

      • and helping themselves to funds, interesting story of their demise, lol

i think they were trying to play fast with the bankruptcy laws, and try to re incorporate in texas

thats a huge gamble and might end up with a court appointed trustee to take over the organization

      • The Flying Pig says:

If they were donating to campaigns that’s legal, and pretty much what donors expected

        So that’s fine

But I think Lapierre got caught using money from the nonprofit for personal expenses and that caused them a lot of problems

And people are not donating to them like they used to

They actually contributed about half in 2020 to what they contributed in 2016

They were losing a lot of money for a while and have a bunch of legal problems lately

    • stangerx says:

Filing for bankruptcy does not mean the NRA is done, but sure does indicate it is in a heap of trouble. Think about how that sounds to the Joe Gun average donor.

  52. Tim Knight says:

LOL @ David. You really take things and run with it without thinking.

Phish and Bookman explained what I meant, but the funny thing is Farrakhan definitely has some white blood in him and there is speculation his biological father was Jewish which is totally ironic. LOL

  53. New Age says:

I think I’m done with FA RBs. You always find better in the draft and we have tons of pieces to spend on one. Just draft the guy, Grier! Who was our best RB last year? Not the dudes we paid a lot of money for.

    • Tim Knight says:

Just because it’s reported by some fan site, doesn’t mean we’re doing it. This is the time of year for all these rumors.

  54. New Age says:

Florio is a hack. The truth or lies are both just as handy. The problem today is most journalists are hacks. Gotta get those clicks!

  55. Tim Knight says:

  56. stangerx says:

Why do so many “do we want this guy” articles end with something like this? I don’t want to buy a Chevy Suburban, but yeah might consider one at half the list price.
    ——————
“Darnold may not be that, but if the price comes in lower than the rumored second-round pick the Jets are seeking and San Francisco can finagle him away for an early Day 3 choice, a longer-term plan starts coming together.”

  57. Mike E. says:

Tim – I’m in the Haitian canoe telling them who not to pay and who to draft. It’s very scary in this boat!

    • Tim Knight says:

      LOL

You know what I mean though. They’re going to build it their way anyway so no point in getting nuts about it even though that’s what we fans do.

  58. Krishna says:

Thanks again Mike E for the article.

The DL, front 7, still needs help. I would like to see us dominant again!

  59. Rockphin says:

I present to thee my “they took my phone right before the draft started” RTP draft.

    Team Picks
    3: R1 P3 WR Ja’Marr Chase – LSU
    18: R1 P18 LB Micah Parsons – Penn State
    36: R2 P4 DL Gregory Rousseau – Miami
    50: R2 P18 C Josh Myers – Ohio State
    81: R3 P17 RB Michael Carter – North Carolina
    123: R4 P18 OT Jackson Carman – Clemson
    202: R6 P16 CB Rodarius Williams – Oklahoma State
    256: R7 P30 TE Tony Poljan – Virginia

  60. Rockphin says:

I picked Rousseau for need, but he is really raw and has only one year really playing college ball and was a TE / WR in high-school. He is said to be a perfect fit for a team that plays multiple defense, but again, only one season of numbers a year ago.

  61. olddolphan says:

ANOTHER FINE EFFORT, Mike E.!! noticed your mention of Trey Hendrickson as a possible addition to the Dolphins D-Line. Hendrickson, an alum of Florida Atlantic University, is the all-time sack leader in Owls’ history. More importantly, he’s the all-time sack leader in C-USA HISTORY!
He carried these traits into the NFL where he has had great success with the Saints. I believe he’s EXACTLY the kind of proven NFL performer we need. But he WON’T come at a bargain price. Too many franchises are looking at him seriously.
    ————————————————————
I believe the Dolphins franchise could use some good karma. Hiring their very first FAU alum would be VERY POPULAR just up the road in Boca Raton. Of course I understand that karma is one thing and performance is something else!!!

THAT’s EXACTLY where Trey Hendrickson excells.
I hope he receives serious attention by Miami’s front office.

  62. mf13ss says:

Very happy that Xavien has had the case closed. Mike Floria is hack, which I’ve been saying for YEARS. As soon as I read those PFT articles that Phelon posted, I smelled BS as I posted yesterday. My guy Tim agreed.

Pig, if you don’t mind me saying so, you were ALL over it, bud. CHEERS!

  63. mf13ss says:

Now on a different subject, that I believe Steve is speaking to… NO, I do NOT want to give Xavien a brand new deal. He signed in good faith one of the greatest deals in CB history just a short time ago, so he can play under that deal in good faith.

The greatest thing about the case being closed? It didn’t drop Xavien’s stock, meaning, if we so wish to trade him, he’s still got an A+ rating, rather than some guy who may be going to jail.

  64. Tim Knight says:

This is rumor central time, the combine should be gearing up but it’s not. So reporters have to create something, that’s there job. Some innocent people get caught in that too and that’s not cool.

  65. steveccnv says:

Just because they dropped the case doesn’t mean Xavier wasn’t involved, it just means they didn’t have enough evidence.

There’s a good chance he did have some involvement, at least minor role.

After having an off the field issue last year with the domestic dispute I’d be real leary of signing him to a new contract.

Teams take shit like this serious, and I’m sure the Fins will look into it

    • mf13ss says:

I think you make very plausible points… I wouldn’t sign Xavien to a new contract, either. If he won’t honor his current and very lucrative contract, trade him. We don’t need greed on our team, and there ain’t no “I” in team… it’s not the new ‘Dolphins Way’.

      • mf13ss says:

IF the team feels it may have dodged a bullet (no pun intended), and IF Xavien insists on a new contract… coupled with a record-setting performance last season… NOW is the time to trade him, before/IF he does something stupid again. I did say “IF”.

And if I understand correctly, his body is beginning to break down with recurrent injuries.

        Steve, I hear ya, man.

  66. mf13ss says:

Here’s yet ANOTHER shit piece from PFT, earlier today. Seems PFT wants to trade Russell Wilson for three 1st Round picks. Josh Alper (that’s Mike Floria’s right-hand man) with the report…

  67. Tim Knight says:

Is there any one way to build a championship team. Just enjoy the ride. Things are different now.

  68. steveccnv says:

We should just pay Howard his 20m. 1.25m per game he plays. He’ll play 4 games, make 5m and fire his current agent

    • Tim Knight says:

He averages 11.2 games per year after 5 years in the league and all 16 games last year. 22 INTs and 55 PD in 55 games. The guy is one of the best corners in the league.

  69. steveccnv says:

Biden the racist never ceases to amaze

    • Tim Knight says:

Not getting on him for that one. He slurs words and should not be president. Why is he the quiet president? Where is he? I have to look for Biden presidential news. That’s a little weird, no?

Trump was thrown into my existence like a rocket by the media. What is Biden some kind of cave dweller? LOL

    • at least Biden never led a terrorist event to assassinate government officials, overthrow the government , declare martial law and end the constitution.

we need leaders that represent Americans, like AOC who didnt take a vacation, and raised over 5 million dollars to help Texans out, while dear old Ted has visions of sunny beaches, warm weather, and drinks with umbrellas in luxury. but only for him and his fam.

the republicons always represent themselves, blame others, and leave their voters in the cold and dark to suffer.

  72. Mike E. says:

Like any theory, this one has a huge flaw . . .

Obvious NFL draft trade partner for Dolphins confirmed in new report

I think it is very possible the Jets trade out of #2 and run with Darnold for this season. Teams wanting a specific QB may jump right over us to #2. If the Jets do take a QB though, we definitely might have an opportunity to trade back. I also still can’t wrap my head around why the Eagles need to draft a QB.

but its fact that ted cruz went on vacation in mexico, when the people that voted for him were suffering in the cold and dark

im sure you would be smarter than that, the entire reason the USA exists is because we left King George because of taxation without representation

that describes the snake Cruz perfectly, he represents nobody but himself, and makes a fat salary from taxpayers

  79. bailbondmike says:

That’s ok David, we all know you are an AOC seat sniffer. No need to debate anything here. I’d rather go out in my Florida room and talk to my pineapple plants. They listen more than you.

That said, I agree on Marvin Jones. He would be a stud addition to the WR room.

  80. New Age says:

    Mike E,

I agree about Philly. Carolina seems like it’s more QB needy. and the Jets are a logical partner. The QBs after Lawrence have some flags but will it hurt their market? Wilson has one year of tape and Fields has some really bad games with Haskins probably hurting his stock just a bit. I still don’t know how a QB needy team lets them escape the first 10 picks but going up to three means you feel Atlanta takes the 3rd guy. I’m not too sure about that one.

Another trade down that drives me crazy is Cincy trading up for Sewell. I don’t see a team desperately wanting to leapfrog Cincy for that option or Cincy being desperate enough to get an OT to lose premier picks. It’s a lazy, Miami needs more picks and Cincy is stupid trade scenario. At least to me it is.

  81. steveccnv says:

David, for someone that is always calling Trump a liar, you sure do posts a lot of untruths, like a propaganda machine.

The sad part about it is, you believe what you write

    • you have not been able to prove that i lied, where is your evidence that cruz helped out fellow texans, and did not go to mexico? i provided mine

      you are not being honest

      • steveccnv says:

Cruz lied about that, which I’ve said, but that’s not what I’m talking about. See every other post on a different subject and you’ll find multiple lies.

In typical leftist fashion the response is always there’s no proof, even though video evidence is sometimes shown.

When the story is from the right its always a lie or conspiracy.

  83. steveccnv says:

The excuse given to deplatform Parler was, their site was used to plan the capital attack, all of 7 people using Parker for this, while 73 used Facebook.

So if there were over 100 people planning this from all social media sites, doesn’t that mean the capital attack was planned and not Trump’s lack of incitful words, like the left wants you to believe?

    • this bunch of nonsense is why cruz was helping out his constitutents, didnt go to Mexico, and AOC did not help raise 5 million? lolololol

Your wacky form of proof is rejected, due to lack of evidence, clarity, or honesty

      • steveccnv says:

My proof is you’re stupid. Who is debating Cruz Fdup and is a liar?

And because you don’t care about what’s right you’ll argue this with yourself to no end, but we won’t hear a peep out of you when Newsome or Pelosi or other dems defy their own orders, while people are locked in.

For that you’ll always be a partisan hack

Guys, I’m a fan of AOC – I’m in Queens and I see her work here.

    That’s just me

We don’t need to identify with everyone else’s politics. We certainly don’t need to belittle each other when we don’t see eye to eye.

If everyone is just going to attack people they don’t like, it’s not really debating ideas, it’s just being petty. It’s not my favorite form of discussion…lol

Let’s just drop the politics for now.

Meanwhile back on the ranch…it’s the year 2040 and Dumbo is still debating one of his personalities on Cruz

    AM PICKS

    3: R1 P3 WR Ja’Marr Chase – LSU
    18: R1 P18 DL Christian Barmore – Alabama
    36: R2 P4 EDGE Joseph Ossai – Texas
    50: R2 P18 RB Travis Etienne – Clemson
    81: R3 P17 C Josh Meyers – Ohio State
    123: R4 P18 RB Trey Sermon – Ohio State
    202: R6 P16 WR Tamorrion Terry – Florida State
    256: R7 P30 TE Braden Galloway – Clemson

  89. steveccnv says:

I’ve being seeing Sermon drafted later, didn’t he get hurt?

  90. The Flying Pig says:

I drafted sermon specifically bc I drafted Etienne in the 2nd

I think Etienne is a special talent but I though Reggie bush was a special talent too
And I have questions on each of them running between the tackles

So I picked up another RB later

It probably works better with a day 3 pick back like Stevie Scott or Rakeem
Boyd. If we drafted Eitienne we get his big play ability – but I think we need a deeper stable of RBs

  91. The Flying Pig says:

    Boyd is an interesting prospect
He runs hard without a lot of shiftiness IMO
He’s got a little baggage, he almost flunked out of TAMU, then went to community college, then transferred to Arkansas to finish his college career

I don’t know if that’s viewed as negative but he obviously worked very hard to get back on track to be an nfl pro

I want to draft a back early

Boyd is more 6th or 7th round material
But you can see he had the makeup to be a successful late round gem at RB where we see a lot of late rounds gem

Even if we take a RB early or one in during free agency, I would not mind using a late round pick on another RB like a Boyd

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of Rush Limbaugh. Just don’t think that right. Should be for service to the country. And I’d say the same if it was Johnny Carson, Walter Cronkite or Willy Mays who had passed away.

  93. The Flying Pig says:

Stevie Scott is another late draft prospect who might be a gem
He came out as a freshman like a bat out of hell but his numbers and carries have decreased

I admit, I’m biased, he’s one of my closest friend’s “little” cousin

  95. bailbondmike says:

Piggy, I like what you did with that draft and see that you went with a play making RB then a bigger back later. I think I would have taken a safety at #123 like Richard Lacounte, Caden Sterns, or Lake. Then take a second RB at #256 like the 2 you mentioned above. There are some good big RB’s who will be there in 6-7 rounds like:
    Gerrid Doaks, 6’1 225, Cincinnati
Rakeem Boyd, 6’0 213, Arkansas (Not that big for his height though)
    Elijah Mitchell, 5’10 215, Louisiana
    Deon Jackson, 6’0 220, Duke
    Stevie Scott, 6’2 231, Indiana
    Spencer Brown, 6’0 235, UAB

Though my fav late round RB was Brian Robinson. Najee’s backup at Alabama but he decided to return for a second senior season. Very smart on his part.

You can never have enough DBs!

So you can always fit one in on day 3

We’ve had some luck in the past with day 3 safeties like Yerimiah Bell and Bobby McCain – I’m sure there are a bunch of others

When I do those mocks, I usually take a DB in one of the last two rounds. It’s not really a need, but I usually work one in, bc we can usually bring them up slowly and get a little something from ST as a rookie

These type of backs are why you really shouldn’t take an RB early or get one thru FA. You can get one in the 4-6 round every 3 years and always be set
