The Dolphins are building a nice foundation of young defensive players along the defensive line. The last 2 years, the Dolphins drafted 2 key pieces for the D-line, 2019 1st RD pick (#13) Christian Wilkins and 2020 2nd RD pick (#56) Raekwon Davis. WIlkins has played a ton of snaps at both NT and DE while Davis slowly increased his playing time at NT, especially after NT Davon Godchaux went down due to injury. Godchaux who was drafted in the 5th RD of the 2017 draft had been a very solid, if unspectacular player for the Dolphins. He played all 16 games in 2019 finishing with 75 tackles, 7 QB hits and 4 TFL along with 2 sacks. He’s a free agent in 2021 and I’d like to sign him, even with the emergence of Raekwon Davis. The problem is, the salary cap shrunk this season due to COVID-19 ramifications to revenues but if he’s willing to take a deal with the team that’s cap friendly, he may be back in the fold.
Emmanuel Ogbah made a big impact early in the season but then almost faded out and disappeared later in the season. Through the first 8 games of the season, Ogbah had 7 sacks. The 2nd half he managed on 2 more sacks in 8 games. Ogbah will be a free agent after this season. That could be good for the Dolphins in 2021 because Ogbah will be playing for his next contract, whether that’s here or somewhere else. Another important free agent acquisition, although it was late 2019, not 2020 was DE Zach Sieler. Sieler was a pleasant surprise last season. Sieler was a 7th RD draft pick of the Baltimore Ravens. What nice gem unearthed by the Dolphins. Sieler barely got any playing time in Baltimore but the Dolphins obviously saw something there. He played 52% of the defensive snaps last season and he was very active if you watched the games.Sieler finished with 48 tackles, and check this out, 11 tackles for loss. That’s getting into the opposing teams backfield a lot, and finishing the play.He also added 11 QB hits and 3.5 sacks.
Raekwon Davis, the giant on the DL got 12 starts at NT last season. His presence may allow the Dolphins to move on from Davon Godchaux, that will depend on how much it takes to keep Davon here and how much he wants to be here. Davis is such a presence on the D-line at 6’6 311 and I think he might get even bigger and add more bulk. Davis showed a lot of promise last season. I think what we really need is another pass rusher. That can be accomplished by getting either a DE or a pass rushing OLB. In the 2021 NFL Draft, edge rusher Gregor Rousseau would be a nice pick. Very long, and not just another speed guy. Rousseau actually wins with leverage and technique. Rousseau is 6’7 260 and has elite size. One caveat is he only gave 1 full season of production. He opted out last season due to COVID-19, but in 2019 he had a great season for the Miami Hurricanes, posting 15.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss. forced 2 fumbles and recovered 1. That’s making an impact! Other edge rushers would be Michigan’s Kwity Paye (6’4 272), MIami’s Jaelan Phillips (6’5 266), Pitts Patrick Jones II (6’5 260) and I’m sure as always, you have your favorites not yet listed.
We could also be looking for a DT/DE in the draft. Alabama’s Christian Barmore (6’5 310), slightly undersized Washington’s Levi Onwuzurike (6’3 288), Iowa’s Daviyon Nixon (6’3 305). I do think there is potential we can re-sign Davon Godchaux, he definitely excelled here, but he may only be a rotational piece in our defense and therefore he could easily get outpriced if he can get starter money elsewhere. Carlos Basham Jr. (6’5 280) is another athlete can play multiple positions. He could play either DE or inside on pass rush downs. He has the size, length and quickness and is very disruptive spending a lot of time in opposing teams side of the LOS. In free agency, there are quite a few young D-linemen available. I can’t see us spending major money on one, but Leonard Williams (27), Larry Ogunjobi (27), Trey Hendrickson (27), and Deatrich Wise (26). We also have our own depth guys that will hopefully take a step forward like DT Benito Jones and DE Jason Strowbridge. I don’t expect us to be active much in FA but we may choose to get one or two pieces on either side of the ball.

I think for me, it comes down to what happens with Davon Godchaux. If he walks, I am leaning toward a DT/NT space eater like Barmore. If we resign him, I think that opens thing up to get either a space eater or a more athletic and disruptive DT like Seiler.

BBM — I’d like to keep Godchaux. But like with any player comes down to the price. How much is a good 3rd DT in the rotation worth? Some other team might be willing to give him starters’ money.

On the DL, we need a DE but the DTs should be ok. I’d be ok with Godchaux or even a later pick. Wilkins and Davis will be the primary talent inside for a while.
Wilkins and Davis are definitely the primary guys going forward, and like I said, Ogbah is a FA next year so we have to have to prepare for him to potentially leave or to pay him a bundle if he plays well enough for us to want to continue to have his services. Still, so many of these players on the D-line play multiples and can play either end or NT. I’d love to find a disruptive DT/NT

You can only lease photoshop now, there is no buying the program.
There are 2 ways to post photos in an article, either by uploading them to the blog and saving them, or you can just put them in by the URL link, do whatever is easier for you. The ones you upload stay in the memory so you can re-use them any time.

Stanger, I have liberal friends who claimed much of the rioting was done by Trump supporters and white supremacists to make BLM look bad. They couldn’t accept that BLM became an extreme violent radical group.
And they are idiots too. This was 58% of Trump voters though. Have a hard time thinking over half of Biden voters would say the looting incidents were Trump folk. And they were mostly black.

I disagree with MF’s analysis of the Howard situation. One shot, ten shots, 100 shots fired blindly into a house is attempted murder. Caliber doesn’t matter – If your house isn’t stone, there is little in most houses that will stop a bullet from traveling through multiple room. Second, Howard’s phone number wasn’t the only connection. Read the initial post. The car belongs to a woman associated with Howard. At least one of the names in the report is an associate of Howard. The person of interest has disappeared.
Howard may be and is in the eyes of the law innocent until proven guilty. But then there would be no reason not to talk to the police. I think it is more likely that, as someone suggested earlier, Howard knows something about the situation, perhaps the whereabouts of the person of interest, that he does not want to share with investigators.

I disagree with this assessment. IMO, it was clearly not attempted murder. Had it been, the shot would have been a “kill shot”. Don’t know enough about the case, but I highly doubt anybody was in the room that was shot into. Why? It would have been front page news the day after it happened, back in June of 2020, reported as an attempted murder/assassination.

Regarding Xavien Howard…
Why would Bilbo (Baggins) only recently name him as a possible link to the shooting that took place last June (2020)? It was on January 10th (a little over a month ago), 2021, that Xavien signed with David Canter… meaning, Xavien was still under Bilbo’s employ at the time of the shooting.
A single shot was fired from a 9, and it was clearly not a ‘death shot’ (seemed to be a warning shot)… suspect drove off immediately afterward. I get that the driver allegedly seems to have a link to Xavien (phone records), but that doesn’t mean Xavien had anything to do with it. I’m sure MANY people had links to the alleged driver, and this may have had NOTHING to do with football.
With the little that we know (and I know Bilbo’s history as an agent), it would seem to me that this is sour grapes. Bilbo is pissed off that Xavien dropped him some 6 months after the shooting, going with Canter instead, and Xavien just had a DPOY-type season.
Pleading #5A should not implicate Xavien, either. To me, this is a non-story but for one thing: Bilbo is jealous of Canter (who I know rather well, too… we’ve talked privately from time-to-time about players), and Bilbo is trying to drop the stock of Xavien as a result.
That’s the way I see it. The timeline is not in Bilbo’s favor, IMO.

My top want at 18 is Zaven Collins. Doesn’t really make much sense to take Najee at 18, when the top RB last year went at 32 and we have a pick at 36. If we loose out on Najee there’s 3 other RBs that will suffice, but if we loose out on Collins I don’t see anyone that will work.
WR not at 3, but after a trade down, Collins at 18, then 1 of top4 RBs at 36 would be a great start to our draft. If we can’t trade down, it must be Penei.
If we could get one of those fantasy trade downs, like I’ve seen in some mock drafts, from 3 to 6 to 9 and pick up 2 additional 1sts next year and still get someone like Waddle or Parsons at 9, then this draft will be off the charts

I’d think that Roberts doesn’t have much of an FA market, because he’s hurt and won’t play the entire season, so we should sign him to a smallish 1 year contract
Howard should be praising Byron Jones and the team for signing Jones and not trying to get a higher contract, because it was Jones playing opposite him that netted more throws his way, resulting in the 10 ints
Howard has trade value if the fins decide they wish to part ways, i wouldnt take less than a number 1 for him, but teams might not bid more than a third , depending on how events play out
it may be best to trade down this year to get more players
The only relevant thing I see from the Howard news is that the Dolphins want to tread cautiously in negotiating a new contract in case something comes out later
But on these facts thar we know, no one should be assuming Howard did something wrong
there is no way anything reported equals any kind of criminal action against him
The police knew all the facts reported a year ago and never considered him a suspect or took any legal action to subpoena him. They haven’t even arrested anyone who fired a gun.
They asked to investigate him again and he declined. The key phrase is again. His attorney has Informed the public that he has in the past interviewed with police. They spoke to him last year.
This isn’t some sort of rich athletes privilege, we all have the right to decline an interview over and over again. There is obviously no kind of forensic evidence a year removed from a crime. It’s all circumstantial at this point. The last thing you want to do is open the door to an aggressive prosecutor to charge you with a crime you know nothing about bc he thinks you have motive. It’s not nefarious to decline to interview with the police after you e already told them what you know.
It kind of reads to me as if the police are at a dead end and the only thing they have now is what they view as motive by Howard to be involved in this. But a year removed from the act – it’s unusual to ask for a new interview if you ask me.
As to Florio’s suggestion that the nfl send it’s own investigator to take action – are you flicking kidding me? What are they going to do hire shoe white shoe law firm to prep a 100 page memo….

Now on a different subject, that I believe Steve is speaking to… NO, I do NOT want to give Xavien a brand new deal. He signed in good faith one of the greatest deals in CB history just a short time ago, so he can play under that deal in good faith.
The greatest thing about the case being closed? It didn’t drop Xavien’s stock, meaning, if we so wish to trade him, he’s still got an A+ rating, rather than some guy who may be going to jail.
This is rumor central time, the combine should be gearing up but it’s not. So reporters have to create something, that’s there job. Some innocent people get caught in that too and that’s not cool.
Just because they dropped the case doesn’t mean Xavier wasn’t involved, it just means they didn’t have enough evidence.
There’s a good chance he did have some involvement, at least minor role.
After having an off the field issue last year with the domestic dispute I’d be real leary of signing him to a new contract.

I drafted sermon specifically bc I drafted Etienne in the 2nd
I think Etienne is a special talent but I though Reggie bush was a special talent too
And I have questions on each of them running between the tackles
So I picked up another RB later
It probably works better with a day 3 pick back like Stevie Scott or Rakeem
Boyd. If we drafted Eitienne we get his big play ability – but I think we need a deeper stable of RBs
Boyd is an interesting prospect
He runs hard without a lot of shiftiness IMO
He’s got a little baggage, he almost flunked out of TAMU, then went to community college, then transferred to Arkansas to finish his college career
I don’t know if that’s viewed as negative but he obviously worked very hard to get back on track to be an nfl pro

Boyd is more 6th or 7th round material
But you can see he had the makeup to be a successful late round gem at RB where we see a lot of late rounds gem
Even if we take a RB early or one in during free agency, I would not mind using a late round pick on another RB like a Boyd

Stevie Scott is another late draft prospect who might be a gem
He came out as a freshman like a bat out of hell but his numbers and carries have decreased

Piggy, I like what you did with that draft and see that you went with a play making RB then a bigger back later. I think I would have taken a safety at #123 like Richard Lacounte, Caden Sterns, or Lake. Then take a second RB at #256 like the 2 you mentioned above. There are some good big RB’s who will be there in 6-7 rounds like:
Gerrid Doaks, 6’1 225, Cincinnati
Rakeem Boyd, 6’0 213, Arkansas (Not that big for his height though)
Elijah Mitchell, 5’10 215, Louisiana
Deon Jackson, 6’0 220, Duke
Stevie Scott, 6’2 231, Indiana
Spencer Brown, 6’0 235, UAB
Though my fav late round RB was Brian Robinson. Najee’s backup at Alabama but he decided to return for a second senior season. Very smart on his part.

We’ve had some luck in the past with day 3 safeties like Yerimiah Bell and Bobby McCain – I’m sure there are a bunch of others
When I do those mocks, I usually take a DB in one of the last two rounds. It’s not really a need, but I usually work one in, bc we can usually bring them up slowly and get a little something from ST as a rookie
