Draft day is approaching very quickly, so much so that I can already envision the arguments about who we took, when we took them and why we didn’t take this guy or that guy. It’s coming. Chris Grier and Brian Flores and the Miami Dolphins Scouting team will be questioned, ridiculed and revered by others all after 4 days of the draft in which the Dolphins currently hold 8 selections, starting with picks 5,18 in RD 1, 36 and 50 in RD 2, 81 in RD 3, 156 in RD 4 and then a long wait until picks 231 and 258 in RD 7. As usual, you can almost certainly expect some movement by our team in the draft, we have a history of wheeling and dealing, moving up back and all around at different junctures of the draft.
I think for the most part, the majority here understand that we need to help our QB by giving him better weapons on offense, and that could mean at a variety of positions including the trenches to give him better throwing lanes as well as keeping him healthy, more talent and reliability at receiver whether that receiver is a WR or TE and a durable ballcarrier who can also be a quality receiver out of the backfield. An easy way to have the QB improve is to give him better players around, see Ryan Tannehill and the Tennessee Titans for proof of such. We also have needs on defense but we made two key moves to make us better up the middle. First move was trading for ILB Benardrick McKinney to pair him with #55 Jerome Baker. We then signed FA DT John Jenkins. We do have AVG and Vince Biegel coming back on the outside but Biegel is coming off a torn achilles. He showed some promise before the injury, but whether the Dolphins are going to count on him remains to be seen. We need to get pressure from the edge, so I’d expect us to be looking at either an OLB or OLB/DE tweener who can rush the passer both standing up and with his hand in the ground.
Who are the most likely targets? I see mocks split for pick #6 with the usual suspects, WR Ja’Marr Chase, WR, DeVonta Smith, TE Kyle Pitts and OL Penei Sewell and Rashawn Slater. Once you get past our first pick, things as expected get more muddled. #18 is all over the map, from RB Najee Harris to EDGE rushers Kwity Paye, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Gregory Rousseau and Jaelan Phillips. Who we take at #6 will undoubtedly affect who we take next. If we don’t take a receiver with our first pick, say we go with an OL then I’m inclined to believe our next pick will be a WR. I can’t see going forward with the WR corps we currently have without finding a dependable, reliable high talent WR in this draft. I suppose receivers like Kadarius Toney or Rashod Bateman or Terrace Marshall could be the guy but I think we go for top tier talent here and either Chase, Smith or Pitts is the first pick. I’ll get more into the rest of the draft next week, and I’m sure there will be even more speculation, rumor and innuendo to discuss next week.

The thing about your number of 170K is that, although it’s a accurate, it’s specifically encounters at the border, of which only a small %, less than 30%, are actually detentions.
I don’t k ow the number for March, but In Feb 2021, the number for encounters was over 98k (March is considered a surge) and only 28K were detained anywhere long term. The rest were rejected for various reasons.
Those kind of numbers (28k) are sustainable provided that those 28k are generating tax revenue. And so that’s the problem with detention at the end of the day, it removes any possibility of tax revenue (sales tax or income from lawful employment) and just makes the whole thing a black hole of expenses. People not coming back is a risk worth taking if at the end of the day you are adding to us taxes instead of costing it.

What % of the ones released actually come back and go to court? I see them in jail everyday with ICE holds. Before, they were taken from here to Louisiana then a vast majority deported. Now they are taken to Louisiana, reset in the system and released back to the community only to not show up in court again. Not only that, ICE is told to release them without even having to post the bond for their criminal charge only to have them not show up for that court date either.
I know this for fact cause there is an illegal in jail here right now who did this. Had a $5000 bond for DUI with Property Damage and Bodily Injury and $1000 bond for Driving w/o a Valid DL back in Feb he was picked up by ICE and released in a week without even having to post bond. Then, he missed court in March. Was just rearrested for a second DUI and Driving w/o a Valid DL in 2 months and for a Failure to Appear warrant issued on the first DUI case.
The rest of us legal citizens have to get bonded out. Guess they will just rinse and repeat until he kills someone.

Was darn clear to me that the GA senate election was turned by Trump’s insistence on the “Big Lie.” It was still darn close though. But also involved was the changing demographics in Georgia. Besides Tutu Atwell, he will probably be the fastest WR on the board after round 3. He can play any WR position with sub 4.4 speed and is a very good returner.

There have been studies showing that mail in voting is much, much more likely to have fraud than in-person. It’s one reason Europe doesn’t really use it. It’s also one reason South American countries like Bolivia do. Considering we had known fraud and some counties still can’t show chain of custody from this past election, why would we want more mail in voting?
It’s not very difficult to go out and vote. It can be annoying and slow, but not difficult. No state keeps an up to date registry because both sides play some shenanigans. Why would I want that? Mail in voting isn’t some awesome new take on voting. It’s a doorway to fraud and taking away one of our most important rights. How did they make mail in voting harder?
This isnt meant to be solely about the GA law. New age is arguing that mail in voting is vulnerable to fraud. Im sure you’ve heard many general arguments by Republicans about mail in voting, I know I have.
But specifically in ga, the new law decreases drop from 94 to 23 in Atlanta. Those drop boxes are not available as often as they were before. The request period was reduced from 25 weeks before election to 11 weeks and the deadline is now 11 days rather than the Friday before and of course the proof of ID portion of the law requires some one to provide license number before the request. Before everyone jumps down my throat about ID, I will just say I’m less inclined to argue that the actual requirement of an id is a practical problem. I have issues with it but not like the other stuff.

Under the Georgia law there are alternatives to DL and state issued ID. Last four of your social, current utility bill, etc. The reduction from 25 weeks to 11 weeks is for run off elections not the general election. They want to get a conclusion sooner and to mitigate outside money. Drop boxes are 1 per 100,000. Don’t know how or why that number was decided on. Mostly they have to be under the control and supervision of election officials now.

Don’t see that, but he’s right there with Najee and Williams.
They say he’s a willing blocker, which to me is like saying we have competitive prices (in other words our prices are competitive with those other high priced companies), he’s really not.
You can see he wiffs a lot when blocking, then the next play is a run to him, that the lights come on for.

Michael Carter is a college RB, he’s too slow 4.50 for 5′ 7.5″, think there’s better RBs that will be better pros. And his blocking is bad

Realistically that number should be 5m, because of the trade for Benardrick. Lawson’s cap hit before trade vs Benardrick’s is almost identical and we got a better fit player.
But you can’t just look at dead money and compare 2019 to 2021 straight up, because we traded Tunsil, Stills, and Tannehill, which was a large portion of it, you also have to consider it was part of a full rebuild.

This is an interesting article. Not so much as being about fields but evaluating QB’s in regard to reading the defense and going through progressions. Mac Jones went through his progressions the least of any of the top 10 QB’s and Fields the most. This does does not mean one thing or another as there are so many other factors involved. We know who is going to Jacksonville, have a pretty darn good idea of who is going to the Jets, and we know that the 49’ers are drafting a quarterback as well. What we don’t know is what Atlanta and Cincinnati are going to do.
Rumors have been running now for a week or so about the Falcons wanting to move out of the four spot. No one is talking about the Bengals trying to move out of five and with good reason. The Bengals are not taking a QB and more than likely want either Ja’Marr Chase or Penei Sewell, maybe Kyle Pitts. The same trio that Miami presumably is interested in.
But Atlanta. The Falcons could trade out, they could draft a quarterback, or they could take Pitts. The Dolphins could find themselves moving again depending on what the Falcons do. If they take Pitts, I would venture to guess that the Dolphins will be more willing to move down from six. Quarterback needs for many teams may see the Dolphins reap a bounty of selections depending on how far down they drop.

You mention prospects and someone always says yeah but he sucks at this or that. Everyone wants the perfect prospect. Sometimes you draft a guy to play a major role in what you want to do. This guy is here to rush off the edge. This guy is here because he can break a big play at anytime and score a TD. They’re not always great at everything.
I’m pretty sure most of us fans believe we need more speed to attack the backfield on defense, and to attack defenses vertically. Being able to get 1-2 yards in the run game when we need to would be nice too. That’s what will make us a top contender.
Broncos pick at 9, they actually were interested in Darnold, they must be desperate for QB, lol
the Fins could trade with Denver to 9, and still get a top ten talent in the draft, and likely pick up another first rounder next year, and additional mid round pick or two this year

I don’t agree. Tory Holt was a speedster. I think Chase is more of a possession guy who can make big plays because he’s a smooth route runner who gets open and can be physical and high point the ball.
Torry Holt ran a 4.4 40 at his combine. Chase ran a 4.39. They are the same size and weight, and both run well after the catch. I think Holt may have been more of a finesse guy than Chase is but I expect that Chase will have a nice YPR average like Holt when all is said and done.
I don’t see the same speed. Chase is a pro day 4.39 guy. It’s like saying every pitcher in baseball today throws it like Nolan Ryan. It’s BS.

He is raw as a pass rusher and needs to refine his overall technique and hand usage. This will only maximize his natural athleticism and make him more effective regardless of the opponent.
Ideal Role: Sub-package edge rusher who could develop into an NFL starter for some teams with time and pro coaching.
Scheme Fit: Odd front defensive scheme with hybrid principles in sub-package situations.
Don’t sleep on Kwity Paye. He’s high on a lot of draft boards. Not at #6, but a 1st round pick.

Paye plays with his hand in the dirt, we need an OLB, that can get quick pressure on the QB, he’s not that.
You could say we need a downlineman, that can get pressure quickly, but Phillips is the only one in this draft that is an upgrade and he’s a walking CTE
