In the 2020-2021 offseason, the Miami Dolphins signed free agent C Matt Skura, who was not re-signed by the Ravens. I wasn’t a big fan of that move, I didn’t really have a lot of confidence in the Ravens castoff. Twofold reasoning here. When the Ravens let a guy go, there’s a reason. They are one of the best run franchises in the NFL and when they make personnel decisions, they’re usually correct. Unlike the move last year of bringing in former Patriot Ted Karras, this one smelled of we missed out on who we really wanted but we need to take someone. In walks 2019 Miami Dolphins 3rd RD pick Michael Deiter, #78 overall.
Deiter played all 16 games of the 2019 season at LG with 15 game starts. He played 93% of the offensive snaps that season. You have to go back to 2018 for Skura where played 100% of the snaps and each year his play has decreased. Of course it’s easy to say that Deiter didn’t play much at all last season, but 2020 is a mulligan due to COVID-19. There’s no official status yet that Michael Deiter will be our starting C but it seems clear that they wouldn’t mind if it worked out that way. The former Wisconsin road grader will be given every opportunity to take the job, and I hope he does just that.
Coming out of Wisconsin, Deiter played both left guard, right guard and center with the majority coming at center. Deiter is a bit tall for a C at 6’5 but the Dolphins had Mike Pouncey here for years who was also 6’5. Deiter can win at the LOS but has some trouble with second level blocks. I’ll take winning at the LOS for now. Deiter’s draft rating was “Good backup who could become starter” OK Mike, take the job and run with it! Deiter is signed through next season so we can get a good look at him this season and then we have next season to either decide whether he’s our future center or whether we need to look for another. Skura has a 1 year contract which to me says he was just an insurance policy that the team would use if necessary for one season.
As far as the other camp battles, Austin Jackson appears to be a shoe in for the LT position while at LG, my choice for RT Liam Eichenberg has been getting lots of snaps. I wouldn’t read too much into it, I still firmly believe that Solomon Kindley will be the starting LG. Robert Hunt has been at RG where I feel he will be the starter and Jesse Davis has been getting reps at RT. All this is very fluid though, guys need to get reps in and once again, I feel it will be Jackson – Kindley – Deiter – Hunt – Eichenberg when the dust settles. I do think there’s an outside chance that Jesse Davis starts at RT early but I think/hope that Eichenberg takes the spot.
GO DOLPHINS!!!

Oink and first
I was here before but took too long to write lol
You snooze you lose
Let’s go Deiter
it looking like Eichenberg could be a rookie starter, the OL should be much stronger this year
I would have been first, but I was too busy LMAO on the last one.
are you shit’n me?
Not at all…You can’t make that shit up.
I would have been first but I was taking a shit

Stay on task, sweet pea. You’re gonna overheat that brain cell.
lol Im always ahead of dumb ass marines like You, even when im asleep
what a thrilling game last night!
Which game do you speak of? Marlins?
why would you say that? i’m not a Marlinsfan.
LOL
Agree with all you wrote Mike.
I read daily but not much time to chat these days.
I read a comment yesterday about Eichenberg playing LT with Irish… and as someone who hasn’t missed an Irish game in over a decade … Eichenberg played a lot of RT as well, ESPECIALLY on the goal line. Wherever he lined up was the ‘tip’ where the ball was going, but it usually didn’t matter so ND played him at RT quite a bit (even more so early on when McGlinchey was at LT.
Thanks Rhino!
I remember that now as well.
Rhino — been wondering where you been. Glad you still read, but hope you do find the time to chat. You’re a board starter.
Nice article Mike!
I have been rooting for Deiter since we drafted him. I hope he becomes one of those guys that the Dolphins have given up on too soon in the past that go on and become long time starters and pro-bowlers.
Go Big Mike!
That’s what I like about this coaching regime…they coach players up instead of giving up on them.
Thanks Rock!
the thing about dieter is that if he was going to be a great center wouldn’t that have already happened?
why do we keep trying to get a F.A center every year?
i think the reason he’s rolling with the ones is to make a final decision as whether to keep him or move on.
Nice write Mike E !!
I just want the best player and great depth at all positions. Sounds simple.
Thanks Doggy! I hear ya, and agree.
“When the Ravens let a guy go, there’s a reason. They are one of the best run franchises in the NFL and when they make personnel decisions, they’re usually correct.”
Good thing they were wrong on Seiler
Good point!
thanks for the new blog Mike, OL is boring unless a team doesnt have a good one, lol
i hope these guys can get er done~
Let’s go Dieter!
I don’t think talking about the trenches is boring. IMO, it’s the most important part of the game.
phel, are You a crayon eater, or someone that couldnt get the 32 on the ASVAB, or both?
Love me some Crayolas!
lol they are good for drawing cute pictures
Good topic, MikeE! Now that the pads are on, it’s time to talk big uglies.
Thanks Mike!
Hope he is good. Armando is dialed in with the team but spins too much BS that then get’s picked up by the National media.
i knew she was going to leave you for a real man
I think Armando gets dialed into the malcontents who are on their way out, but I’ve never seen where he wrote something that had any actual insight into the team.
I can see that. Those on their way out are more willing to talk their shit. Those staying put keep things in house.
Man, someone is in a ridiculous troll mode this morning. Needs to get his mamma to change that dirty diaper.

Ummmm, it’s crazy this person does not even realize that this was directed at him. Now that is some funny shit right there!
David, pick a different subject if you are trying to get under my skin. I’ve been divorced 5 years and have moved on. Nobody even mentions it in my life except you. Your pathetically lame attempts to troll me would be humorous if they weren’t so puerile. (look that one up Krishna, LOL)

you are truly an idiot, im sure your wife knew that and left u for it
Puerile – Childish, immature, sophomoric.
Read it on the back of a box of Crayola. Next to some nonsense about not eating the crayons.
I did! Dang if I would have have read a little further I would have gotten the definition, too.
Contextually, I got it…..lol
Just as we seemed to sign Skura by default, hope our starting C isn’t given the job the same way.
As long as one of them earns it, I’m fine with whoever it is
David I look forward to meeting you in person.
why? i thought u said it was 5 years ago, and it doesnt bother u now
grow a pair buddy, then u might be able to keep the next one

Taking a day off and heading to the beach today
————————————
Piggy, there is a new recipe I want to try.
Before you go to the beach to bake. Could you please inject yourself intramuscularly all over with cherry cola. Then at the beach rub yourself down with a good sweet heat rub. Then, after quite a few hours, pour a bunch of cherry cola all over you and tightly wrap yourself in foil and stay out there a few more hours.
Try not to get much sand on you, please.
Better get a move on. Daylight is burning!
At least they aren’t bringing back John Denney
Good observation Alain
Finally got to watch the damned Dolphins/ Niners replay. Thanks, Obama!

Picked up my mother-in-law from the airport last night, she’s staying with us for the week. She got up bright and early today so she could start refinishing my cabinets, she’s outside right now prepping them. In the meantime, I may watch the Rams game. Is 8:30 AM too early for a rum and coke?
Only if it pisses off someone in the house, or you care what they think
(Kong takes a sip of rum and coke and leans back with sigh)
Looks like you too have some redneck in the in laws
Mountain folk
If you are conscious about it, just put a shot in your coffee. They will never know.
Or your rum and coke in your coffee cup.
Cav, referring to my post to Piggy, have you experimented with injecting your pork butt with different cola’s?
I have done it with Coke and Dr. Pepper. Have not tried a cherry cola.
I’ve never tried injecting with any cola, I would try it just never have. I’ve made some cola based bbq sauces, but usually with pork I inject a marinade or salt solution- apple juice, cider vinegar, etc.
If I’m looking to sweeten it up I may add some maple syrup to my marinade., I can see how different colas can add some nice sweetness and different flavor profiles depending on the soda used.
Do you just inject with soda or is it a combination with a soda base?
Wtf is wrong with you humans
I drink soda willingly
I didn’t like how Dieter looked at guard. He was a little light in the loafers and wasn’t able to command the point of attack. As a C, depending on the front, you are involved in more combination blocks than man-on-man blocks, so it’s a little less demanding in terms of power and more reliant on position and leverage. The big thing for me with the center position is whether or not they can handle it mentally. Tua is smart, but he’s still a second year player. A center can really help take the pressure off of young QBs when it comes to setting protections. Deiter is not a gifted athlete, so he has to make up for it with precise mechanics. Moving him to center gets him away from the power guys he faces at guard, but will he be athletic enough to get to his blocks at center? He could also be playing between 2 very young players…not a great situation, but it is what it is. I’m rooting for the kid.
Are you rooting for him just because he’s a Fin?
I like to root for the guy, that has the most upside, seems like we’d be better off cutting loose Deiter after his rookie contract.
Based on what you just wrote, and watching Skura, who gets to the 2nd level very well, I’d take him over Deiter.
steve,
I’m rooting for him because it would be good for the team if a third round draft pick panned out. Also, he’s a Big10 kid…which I like.
***
I’m not sold on him being the guy at all. His play thus far hasn’t really been inspiring, but I have no problem giving OL a few years to mature and develop. If Skura beats him out, so be it, but it’s not like Skura is a no-brainer either. But, he gives you some veteran experience if things don’t pan out with Deiter.
Taking what you wrote above I see Deiter as a bad draft pick, that doesn’t have the physical skills to play G, nor the athletic ability to play C.
What am I missing here with Deiter?
I dont see him as particularly good either. OG and OC have some cross over skills but generally if your bad at OG you will be worse at OC. I have played OC, OG is easier by comparison, and you generally want a pretty football smart player there who can read things and have a plan for what he is going to need to do psot snap because its snap and straight into picking up your block, which could be a DT or at least assisting with the DT/NT or it could be picking up a LB. Their blocking assignment varies a lot more than a OG’s post snap.
Your athletic guys you want at the outside positions especially the ones with the good technique and footwork. The one thing that hasn’t changed about the OL positions and what ya need at each of them is the type of work done at each. OT is a lot of movement and technique, inside iis a lot of hand placements and strength, upper and lower body. OT’s have to have big strong hands and it helps to have a good pop to your punch to knock the person back off you where as a OG wants to win leverage battles and stand their guy up.
Im not optimistic about Deiter at OC but maybe im wrong. Im willing to give the guy the benefit fo the doubt but again, what we know about Dieter at OC is very limited, where as Skura has starting experience as part of a fairly decent OL over his time there. Me personally im leaning more Skura than Deiter.

Im not saying its great BBQ but its coinvent not to have to cook it lol. Was a lunch break place for me when i use to work in Pcola over towards the west side, i.e. west end of Creighton road, over close to four winds deli (which you should try out BBM if you haven’t been there before). I was more remarking on how much the places vary based on management. The one in PCola was always spot on the one in Jackson you couldn’t pay me to go back there.
steve,
Yep, you may be right. Like i said, I’m certainly not sold on Deiter. I’m willing to see what he can do this season, as maybe he just needed a couple years to add some strength and develop. They’ll figure it out in practice. If he gets beat out, he gets beat out. You’re much more into the contract stuff than I am. I really don’t even think about that stuff when I evaluate a player and whether to keep him.
***
I guess I see this as Deiter’s prove it year. I am okay with giving him his shot and seeing what he can do. If he doesn’t pan out…ya move on. It’d be nice if he would pan out at least as a backup because he has a lot of experience at multiple positions. I’d be disappointed that a third rounder didn’t end up being a starter but a versatile backup has value too. A Jesse Davis-type, for instance.

Super expecting the “it only hurts at first comment” soon…
Seems the Boss is getting tired of the question!
Holy crap! QB salaries are getting out of F’n control! 20% of the salary cap for one player is sick!
That said, Good for the Jills! I hope he get’s the $150M in guaranteed money right before he blows his throwing shoulder!
Deiter is just not a great athlete. His strengths are his technique, work ethic and fundamentals. He played T, G and C in college and played them all fairly well….not great but competently. He’s also reported to be a smart football player. You may want your C to be more athletic than your guards….guards are the powerhouse of the offense, but it’s still very easy to isolate a power rusher on a center, and Deiter really struggled against power and power moves at G. Will he be getting pushed back into Tua’s lap? I know I’d test him if I was a DC.
***
I think the biggest question mark on him will be his lateral movement. People get way too excited about guys getting to the second level these days. It’s become a popular thing to talk about. In reality, lots of guys struggle to get to second level blocks and many times not getting there may not be your fault. Other guys might be able to get there but not execute a good block anyway. I’m more concerned about his ability to move laterally and engage in reach blocks or combos. And, as I said, can he master the mental part? Skura, we know can because he’s done it. Deiter still has to prove he can.

ok, i must have missed that
Today, we learned that Jesse Davis has a knee injury and while we don’t know the extent of it, the Dolphins will lose another veteran with more than a year or two of experience. It also creates a hole at guard. Earlier this week we learned that Solomon Kindley was demoted to the third team. Will Davis’ injury give him a chance to climb back into the starter’s role?
What!? When did we learn this? Man, I guess we will see some shuffling again tomorrow when the pads go back on!
I think it’s just an effort to keep the kid (Kindley) hungry, and not for a dozen racks of ribs. I really do believe he will be starting when the games start
A few days ago M13 said when it comes to politics whatever steve says is what he thinks Starting to think feel the same about Mike E and football unless is about mancrush Gesicki.
“I feel it will be Jackson – Kindley – Deiter – Hunt – Eichenberg when the dust settles. I do think there’s an outside chance that Jesse Davis starts at RT early but I think/hope that Eichenberg takes the spot.”
Isn’t that the bottom line on the OL hopes? If Deiter is good enough, we want younger and on cheap contract. Want Eich to show worth where he was drafted and long-term. Want Kindley to be just like last year even if early causes for concern. Jackson and Hunt seemed locked in already.
I’m hoping for that starting 5 too
But some of it is wishful thinking
Honored to be on the same page Stanger, minus Gesicki of course. lol
Yesterday I was OK with that starting 5, but Randy changed my mind..
Like what I saw from the video showing Skura and Fluker, from Skura, Fluker looked bad.
I would change out Deiter for Skura
Wonder if the LT on the 2nd and 3rd teams backing up Jackson agree that it doesn’t really matter they’re never on the 1’s.
LOL Stop stirring the pot with the players Stanger. Coach said it. LOL
I just hope Jacoby Brisett has a good season.
For someone else
I am sure Brissett will have a great season holding the clip board.
Of course they don’t use clip boards anymore with technology now-a-days, but they need to give him something to occupy himself.
Guessing they hold iPads, or their dick, one or the other
Says the expert on hands
I was wondering why I wasn’t seeing any typical practice day tweets. This explains it.
I hope Deiter is successful because we drafted him, but more importantly because he played at Wisconsin.

If Iggy wasn’t such a flop, Flores would’ve said go fuck yourself x
Anyone really believe he has a sprained ankle?
He may or may not. Either way don’t think he is any rush to get back to practice though. And the more he is out the more it hurts him on getting a contract with another team…… but maybe he knows is past that point now. His agent knows how to use his phone.
Great article about Jimmy Johnson after football, with looking back at before. This part blew my mind.

I think its an effort for them to try to give more merit to their postulation. There is no depth chart as of yet, how can they know he is third team. They rotate who is with each team lol. I mean seriously if yall got something where Flores said this, id like to see it. Only thing i could think might have gotten him “demoted” would be coming into camp out of shape, at this point thats the shit that gets you “demoted” or takes your reps away with first team, because we havent even been in pads but a few days,
What we seem to have as reporters in Miami area are dudes that have never made the varsity squad and most likely only know football stuff in theory. There is no way a guy who was kicking ass all year last year, comes into came already demoted to third team for no reasons, and if the reason is conditioning, he is there until he gets that back under control.
I posted a quote above from coach where he says 1,2,3 team means nothing at this point.
Maybe in the long term Rock, but have a feeling Kindley playing with the 3’s has a lot to with how he did on the conditioning test first day of camp.
Was talking to my younger brother on his ride home from work and he told me he hates this song. I really like it. He is always wrong of course. LOL

I hearing a lot of people talk about Tua being more confident this year
Honestly I think sometimes when people talk about QBs it’s projection
Like it’s not really Tua that’s more confident, it’s you that’s more confident about Tua
I think it’s both. Tua feels better physically, has game experience and now a full offseason of conditioning not rehabbing – trying to get better, not just getting healthy enough to get back on the field. Then take into account the speed we have at WR that we did not have last year. This team is different this year.
The AFC is going to be very competitive this year and so will our division. You make the playoffs this year you’re a good team.
This is a heck of a stat
LOL
Wilson – “How many legs you got, bro? Get that thing out of my face!”
Donald – “Rrrrroarrr, I’m a monster.”
LOL
LOL, seriously that picture is killing me. At first glance, it looks like the Seattle lineman’s right leg is Donald’s right leg (albeit a different color leg, lol), and he’s doing a wide stance monster roar. The Rams player behind Donald, his leg also looks like it could be Donald’s twisted at a weird angle. Then you have Donald’s actual leg behind him horizontal to the ground.
France hanging around in the gold medal game. USA up 8 going into the 4th.
USA wins the gold. France was tough to the end.

________________________________________________________________
EXACTLY!
and after last years putrid performance, out of 9 games 6 were less than 200 yards and 3 of those 6 were less than 100 yards, was yanked twice. where in the hell does this falsely generated confidence come from?
excuses like lack of talent surrounding him doesn’t work for me, fitz had the same lack of talent and thrived, see denver & raider games.
the plays were designed for Fitz, hes gone now, so TUa will get his plays for him
he SHOULD be feeling more confident this year, hes alot stronger, and has much better weapons around him than last year
hes also much stronger, and had a training camp this season.
He is also much healthier, he was not fully ready last year, physically or mentally
Projecting on Tua, since he’s only in his second year, the statement makes sense, but put Mahomes in it…don’t think anyone is projecting on him.
We’re more confident in Tua partly, because he’s more confident in himself.
If you don’t think Tua is more confident, go back and compare a 2020 interview with one today
good point
So far through camp after a first-day slow start, Tua Tagovailoa has been a bright spot on the offense, even getting props from Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel. Players are saying that he looks confident and he is decisive.

Son, what you do to me man? I woke up this morning and first thing I was thinking of was the music video with Sara Loera. I had to look her up and listen to more. That woman can sing anything and look damn good doing it!!!
Since I didn’t post one last night, I have to post one now before we start getting today’s practice news.
wow, thats hot
https://phinphanatic.com/2021/08/07/xavien-howard-dressed-miami-dolphins-full-pad-practice/
Here are some things we noticed at Miami Dolphins practice: (Today so far)
• Xavien Howard is fully suited up for practice.
• Linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel was not spotted.
• Receiver Will Fuller and running back Malcolm Brown were not seen.
X-Man:Dolphins’ Flores says Howard’s ‘hold-in’ has gone ‘fairly smoothly’

Top 5:Fiercest Miami Dolphins position battles
• Salvon Ahmed is participating without a red jersey.
• Running back Jordan Scarlett walked off with a trainer.
• Jevon Holland started at deep safety.
• Benito Jones started at defensive tackle.
• Jason McCourty started at corner, opposite Byron Jones.
• Christian Wilkins continues to work with Miami’s second-team defense.
Christian Wilkins second team? is the DL so deep he cant work with the starters?
it will be interesting to see how this will play out
But Will Fuller and Jaelan Phillips remain out. Andrew Van Ginkel hasn’t been spotted. Running back Malcolm Brown also missed a third practice in a row with an undisclosed injury.
Mike Gesicki and Preston Williams remain on the COVID 19 list.
11:05 a.m.: For the fourth time in the past five practices, Christian Wilkins isn’t playing with the starters. The first-team line is Emmanuel Ogbah, Raekwon Davis and Zach Sieler. Wilkins downplayed that this week.
11 a.m.: For the sixth practice in a row, the Dolphins are going with the same offensive line: Austin Jackson at left tackle, Liam Eichenberg at left guard, Michael Deiter at center, Rob Hunt at right guard and Jesse Davis at right tackle.
Deiter, Jackson and Hunt have been first team all nine practices.
Solomon Kindley, a 13-game starter at guard last season, is with the second team.
10:55 p.m.: Jevon Holland is with the first team at free safety for the second time in camp. Jason McCourty was the first team free safety for the first week.
Noah Igbinoghene, who has struggled in camp, is on the third team.
10:50: Running back Jordan Scarlett walked off the field with a trainer.
10:40 p.m.: Xavien Howard, who hasn’t participated in a practice since the first day of camp because of an ankle injury, is dressed for practice and taking some team reps.
Nik Needham opened as the starting cornerback opposite Byron Jones in team drills but Howard will obviously be in that spot when fully healthy.
I guess Jesse Davis is ok.
MIAMI GARDENS — “Hey, you. Big guy.”
Durval Queiroz Neto’s life was about to take a turn he never could have predicted. Queiroz was well on his way toward becoming the 330-pound behemoth he is today, a size that isn’t easily overlooked on the streets of Brazil.
The man calling out to Queiroz coached football — American football — and persuaded him to try it. By then, Queiroz had his life mapped out. He’d study agricultural engineering, then help his father on the family farm. Football was just a hobby.
Until it wasn’t.
“I need to try.”
Four more words cemented the abrupt turn in Queiroz’s life. Only this time, he was the one speaking, to his family. He’d become good at football, good enough to make him wonder how good he could really be if he moved to the United States. He received his family’s blessing.
Now, a few years later, the Dolphins may be asking how good Queiroz can be, too.
This past week, Queiroz took some snaps with the second-team offensive line, another sign of the improvement he has made since arriving as part of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program.
While once he was a curiosity, Queiroz has settled in to the point that he is, well, a Dolphin on the field and off. At first teammates wondered about the guy who never played college football and was so raw: What’s he doing in an NFL locker room? Today, Queiroz is one of the guys, with teammates referring to him by just one letter.
“That’s my man,” defensive tackle Christian Wilkins said. “I love ‘Q.’ Just love his spirit.”
Queiroz began as a defensive lineman before being switched to offense, but if anyone assumed he would be just a one-year wonder, think again. He’s on the brink of starting his third season with the team after spending the past two on the practice squad.
Will he get into a regular-season game?
In all likelihood, Queiroz, who turns 29 in three weeks, still has a way to go before he could appear in a regular-season game. But maybe that notion doesn’t seem as farfetched as it once did.
“This is everything I want, since I come here, every day,” Queiroz said. “I practice, practice, practice and the last two years I’ve been like watching all my teammates in the weekend going for the game and I have to stay.
“And then every week makes me more hunger for that. I want that. I want to be in the game. Nothing’s more important for me than being in the game and helping my team.”
“My English is getting better but don’t expect a lot of me,” he said.
In truth, no apologies for his English were necessary. There were no issues understanding the only member of the team chasing his dream while being not just any number of states removed from his family, but a continent removed.
“I live by myself,” Queiroz said, thankful his family is in town now, but that’s only because it’s training camp.
“Life is hard,” he said, referring to life for everyone in general, not just himself. “I’m doing this because it’s my dream to be here. … I can’t complain. We talk every day on the phone (with his family) and, like, FaceTime. They try to be present in my life every day somehow.”
Family supports him from afar. Queiroz credited relatives with backing his football career just as they did when he took up judo, eventually earning a black belt and becoming a champion.
“They always support me,” he said.
NFL life hasn’t always been as expected. When he arrived, the Dolphins’ offensive line coach at the time, Dave DeGuglielmo, would tease him about moving to offense.
“He was watching my practice every day and say, ‘Hey, Q, we have a white jersey ready for you. You need to make that move,’ ” Queiroz said, referring to the color the offense usually wears in practice. “I say, ‘Coach, I was born for play D-line.’ ”
That’s what he thought.
“In Brazil when I was playing D-line I said, ‘This is my thing. The only way I’ll be happy for I play D-line. I like to run, hit people, making tackles, tackles for loss,’ ” Queiroz said. “When they move me, I said, ‘I can play guard, for sure, but I don’t know if I’ll be happy.’ But after months playing, training, now I’m happy. I love what I do when I pass protect and I block people. I love that.”
Coach Brian Flores said Queiroz has improved in two years on offense.
“This guy is big, strong, athletic, fast,” Flores said. “I think it’s kind of the football acumen, techniques and fundamentals — things of that nature — that I would say he’s made significant improvement over the last two years. He’s gone in and done a nice job. His mental errors are down. His technique is better. We’ll just continue to see if he continues on the trajectory that he’s on and try to build on it on a daily basis.”
The next few weeks will be critical for all players, including Queiroz. When cut-down day comes, he can sign again as an international practice squad player, but he’d have to remain on the practice squad all season. Or he could be signed to the active roster, in which case he would lose his roster exemption and be treated as any other player.
Queiroz is trying to remain grounded and not read too much into his second-team snaps. He knows coaches are trying players in various combinations. Players can be promoted one day, demoted the next, sometimes on merit, sometimes for experimentation.
“It’s not like, ‘Oh, Q, you are on the second team. You’ll be there (for good),’ ” he said. “I don’t think it works like that.”
If he can prove to coaches he’s capable of protecting Tua Tagovailoa, he stands a chance of being in uniform.
“I need to get better, a lot,” he said. “They’re going to give me a chance when I’m ready. I don’t know when it’s going to be, if it’s going to be in the next games. The coach is going to decide that.”
Really pulling for Neto or “Q”!
He sure looks the part and what a great story. Didn’t realize he’d switched over to the OL.
11:10 a.m.: When Xavien Howard joined team drills opposite Byron Jones, the second team corners were Nik Needham and Javaris Davis. Noah Igbinoghene is on the third team – which is disappointing for a former first round pick.
11:15 pm.: Jaylen Waddle has a compression sleeve on his right leg but he’s running fine. And he insists he’s fully healthy after a major ankle sustained in an Alabama-Tennessee game last October.
As for a report that he’s limping, a colleague showed us video of the way Waddle walks before he was injured at Tennessee last year. This is simply his gait, folks. He walked with what could be perceived as a limp before that ankle injury and now too.
Tagovailoa delivered a nice intermediate dart to Jakeem Grant on consecutive plays. Grant took the second one for a long gain.
Then Tua threw a 20-yard pass to Albert Wilson on busted coverage.
11:30: Tua Tagovailoa threw identical TD passes in the corner of the end zone to Jakeem Grant and DeVante Parker in 7 on 7 drills. Byron Jones was on coverage on the Parker throw. On both plays, Eric Rowe was late in coverage…
Benardrick McKinney made a strong play to stop Myles Gaskin for a short run…

Watched a good bit of Rob Hunt in that period — I thought he showed a good mix of power and flexibility to get good initial surge and position, then the work to counter secondary moves and stay on blocks.

Really good 11-on-11 session for Tua. While it’s his bomb to Albert Wilson that many will want to focus on, it was his precise slants to Jakeem Grant and Wilson that were way more impressive.
Barry Jackson
@flasportsbuzz
Tua once again very sharp on short, intermediate and semi-deep routes. Grant (long gain after catch), Waddle, Parker all involved in Tua catches… Ford with yet another long catch on opposite field from Brissett

Tua to Jakeem on another slant – Jakeem with a wicked shake off the line. Brandon Jones came over and punched it out for a fumble, but Jakeem fell on it.

Waddle skies for an off-target ball, pulls it down and the acceleration is uninterrupted. The way he moves…. Outkast would love it.

He talked about throwing to a spot at his Wednesday media avail — two good examples of it in that period. One on a 9 route to Parker and earlier on the drag to Waddle.
Looks to me like he’s seeing the defense well and attacking accordingly, quickly. https://twitter.com/WingfieldNFL/status/1424034657050537988

DeVante Parker just cleanly beat Byron Jones at the line of scrimmage, but Tua’s deep pass had too much air under it and allowed Jones to come back to break it up.
Travis Wingfield
@WingfieldNFL
Tua takes the snap and lays it out downfield immediately against a blitz – Parker had a step, got hands on it, but Bryon Jones flies it and breaks it up.

Tua, under some heat, gets it to Waddle on a shallow crosser and then the fun begins – explosion, wiggle, gosh that’s fun to watch

For those asking if Waddle is hurt, he’s out here practicing and catching a bunch of passes. Likes how he can contort his body to make difficult catches.

I hear you, which is why I was not pushing the limping story in OTAs or early in camp, but what we’re seeing today is a L-I-M-P. Oh, and then he hobbled after a play as to avoid landing hard on his right foot. That’s the report from HERE at the Baptist Health Training Complex.
