PRESEASON GAME 1 – Dolphins @ Bears

Wow, so pumped just to be typing the words preseason game 1. COVID-19 wrecked any opportunity to have any preseason at all last year, but this season, we not only get THREE preseason games but we also get an extra regular season game to make it 20 games in total! OK, so preseason isn’t all that, but to me, It’s game action against another team, and I personally believe it’s essential. Practice is practice, against your own guys, but when you face a different team, guys will bring more effort and the competition sparks a little extra than you get in practice. We have such a young team, I think they will benefit from having played these 3 meaningless games. You can laugh all you want at this but Tua not having training camp and preseason games did him no favors last year.

First and foremost we need to come out of the preseason healthy. There are injuries in practice, there are injuries in preseason games and there are injuries in regular season games, but you never want to lose a player before the real season begins. There will be some interesting competitions to watch, not only for starting spots but for roster spots too. There are always surprise cuts and sometimes there are surprises as to who makes the starting roster and this year will be no different. At least this year with training camp, minicamp and the preseason, players will have had a chance to show what they can do and the evaluation process should also be easier for the coaching staff.

I think the most interesting battle in my opinion is the O-line. This is where there is the least rotation and the starting 5 usually get the greater majority of snaps. As of now, the line is as so . . .

LT Jackson

LG Eichenberg

C Deiter

RG Hunt

RT Davis

I’m not buying this, and I believe by the time the season starts it will either be Eichenberg or Hunt at RT. If it’s Hunt then maybe Eichenberg stays at LG, but if Eichenberg gets the RT spot, I think Kindley settles back in at LG. We know the 3 starting DL in the 3-4 alignment are going to be Wilkins, Davis and Ogbah. I think we also know the 4 starting LB’s in that same 3-4 are AVG, McKinney, Baker and Phillips. I know Phillips has had a slow start and it’s possible he may not start the season the season there but I also know they will give him every opportunity to make it happen. With Howard getting his extension we know it will be Howard and Jones, but then the safety battle will be an interesting one. I think Eric Rowe is safe at SS, but does the wily veteran McCourty start the season at FS, or does 2nd year man Brandon Jones get the nod or does the rookie who looked great against the Bears in practice, Jevon Holland steal that spot?

On offense, I feel like health will determine who starts at the skill positions, WR, TE and RB. If healthy, Parker, Fuller and Wilson, all veterans will “start”. There will be tons of opportunities for the others though and that’s where it comes down to the roster crunch. We know Waddle makes 4, so does that leave 2 more spots or 3? Hollins is the gunner on special teams and that’s an important factor as to why he might make the team as he’s a good one. Grant is an electric returner, a playmaker but his suspect hands (on returns and as a WR) may leave him off the roster. What about Lynn Bowden Jr.? We gave up a 4th RD pick last season to acquire Bowden and he showed some promise, especially late in the season. It would be hard to let him go so if we keep 7 WR’s, all of the above should be in. That means veteran Allen Hurns, Robert Foster, Kirk Merritt, Isaiah Ford, Malcolm Perry all gone but a couple may end up on the PS.

Oh, by the way, Gesicki is back! Can’t wait to see him back in action and watch him get his well deserved new contract! So Hunter Long is NOT gone for the season, that’s also great news! That should leave Gesicki, Shaheen, and either Smythe, Carter or Myarick to go along with Long as the 4th TE. At RB, Gaskin is the lead back followed by Malcolm Brown, Ahmed, Scarlet, Laird and Doaks. Hey, what happened to world beater Doaks you were all telling me about? Sorry, had to get that out! I’m guessing we’ll carry 5, maybe 6 so Doaks has a chance to make the roster. We no longer officially have a FB, so we might carry 6 RB’s.

The game is on NFLN tomorrow afternoon at 1PM. I will record it as I will be working unfortunately, but I’ll get around to watching it at some point, I may stay away from this blog so it won’t spoil the viewing. Enjoy the game, it will be nice to see some of our exciting rookie prospects suit up for the first time, and see the growth of our 2nd year QB. Looking forward to it!

GO DOLPHINS!!!

At least Brisset is a running QB….lol

  3. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    ball control offense

  4. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Difference on the short yardage first down was his quickness to the hole. Something Brown is not.

  5. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    Waddle seems more shifty

  6. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

If Brissett can stay healthy we’re going to the superbowl

  7. refs suck, that was a blown no call PI on foster

  8. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Brisket seems to be the checkdown QB Tua was last year

  9. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I expect check downs (or pass plays to the RB’s and TE’s ) will be the bread and butter of the COCO’s

    Iggy

  13. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Well thrown ball though

  14. Ken's avatar Ken says:

First team analysis: I liked what I saw out of Tua despite the one bad throw. Otherwise I thought he looked excellent. O line needs more push in short yardage. O line looked good pass blocking. Brown looked horrible as the #1 rb. Immediate difference when Gaskins was in there

  15. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Let’s try something different punting, high and short

  16. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

That’s the Grant I know, except he didn’t bobble it.

  17. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I don’t think that was PI you guys were calling for earlier. Defender had his hands free. If you want to call that then you have to call one on Rowe earlier that he broke up where he had his right hand wrapped around the TE and knocked it away with the other.

  18. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    Dolphin down

  19. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The OL needs work in power blocking. Other than that I think the team is getting good work in.

  20. cethan carter down, hopefully he is ok

  21. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

What happened to Fields, the greatest player on the field?

  22. Omar was right, Fields doesnt look that good

  23. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Brissett does not have a very quick release

  24. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    NICE PASS BRISKET

  25. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    Nice 2 minute score.

  26. love the TD play call, nice play!

  27. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

    We found our qb finaly

  28. flores is fired up, hes in regular season form

  29. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    LOL too funny

  30. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

What is going on with Fields?

  31. Shaheen stood flat footed in the end zone, and a defender stepped in front and took it

he could have come back for the pass, but just stood there

maybe he was not thinking about his teammates again?

  32. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think wheel routes to our backs are going to be a part of the offense.

  33. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Tua on the day was 9 of 12 for 98 yards and with one INT. You multiply for the short time and not the QB we had last season. Including the INT, which avoiding was his strong plus.

  34. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I knew the over/under on Tua passing for 100 yards would be under

  35. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Biggest disappointment of first half for me was poor run blocking and RB Brown. He stutter stepped on every carry. Even his stutter step is slow.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Couldn’t believe the line play on O…definitely surprised.

If Brown isn’t going to hit it, not sure why he’s here. Blocking and catching?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Maybe poor run blocking had a lot to do with that. LOL

Brown is not a quick cutback type back, he’s a north and south runner. If you allow defenders in the backfield every time that’s not going to work.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Yeah but he’s not getting started very quickly

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He was being hit before the LOS every time. That said, the OL doesn’t get a lot of real run game work in practice. They need these PS games for that.

  36. orob, u are trolling bro, cant blame tua for flores running the ball three times at the one yard line

the goal of PS isnt for TUa to get touchdowns, its to prepare the team for the regular season, and evaluate the talent before cutdowns

  37. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Brown looked horrible

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Because the OL was manhandled in the run game. We ran different plays with Brown as opposed to Gaskin and Ahmed. The quick guys had more zone runs and we were using power with Brown. That’s what they were working on. It’s the first PS game though and the PS is most important for the OL. Hopefully by opening day they’ve improved on that.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I know OL didn’t help him but his dancing and hesitation didn’t help. Run game looked much better once Gaskins entered game. Maybe Brown is not a good mesh for the talent we have

  38. Randy's avatar Randy says:

OL looked shaky. Deiter was okay but inconsistent. Kindley was poor.

I don’t know who looked slower….Brown or Brissett. Gaskin needs to get snaps if he can stay healthy.

I know not everybody’s out there but almost no effective edge pressure.

Iggy has some nice plays. Still like to see him play a little tighter.

ST looks to be an asset we need to exploit.

  39. defense missing tackles, smh its preseason

  40. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Iggy with the D holding

  41. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Gaskin averaged 4.8, Ahmed 3.3, and Brown 0.9.

I don’t think it was all the OL.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Brown is having a very “Howard” showing.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Different plays, man. We came out trying to test our OL against a good Bears front with Brown. I thought that was obvious. The OL failed which made Brown fail. Even though he did muscle his way for a 1st down when nothing was there.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

That was his best because he lowered his pads went forward and didn’t dance

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Dancing is when 3 defenders are on you before you get to the LOS. We all saw that we lost up front but a lot of you keep putting it on Brown. Improve the surge and then you get what Brown does well.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

TK, it’s both man….if dancing before you hit the line you have no chance….

  42. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Now they get runs like that

  43. iggy on kickoff returns? are the coaches seeing if they can find something from him, he hasnt shown what they needed to see

  44. nice run blocking on the ahmed run, but alot of scrubs in the game now

  45. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Brissett does not move well in the pocket.

  46. Jacoby Brisset ran a pedestrian 4.94 in college, but seems much slower now

  47. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Iggy returned some kicks last season.

  48. the TD was way too easy, wow, no defenders in sight on the catch

  49. thanks on the Iggy update, Ken and Tim

  50. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

With all our analysis, remember it’s the 1st PS game and we’ve all been through this before. 😉

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I’ll take something from this game. Wasn’t last year’s Tua. They said have tailored this offense to him and I believe it. Also think the new offense isn’t about him being conservative and careful.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah you take some stuff from this game, but it’s more about fundamentals and technique, no game planning. Just basic bread and butter stuff to get ready for the season and to find out who stays and who goes.

  51. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’ll say this, until our OL can get a surge and convert short yardage and goal line situations, we won’t be a championship team. That hurt us last year. I get the OL is young but they have to get better. It’s early though.

  52. Gesicki is the only good TE that Miami has IMO

shaheen had a drop, did nothing on the int,
    , carter got hurt, and
    myarick fumbled the ball

  53. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think Hollins is making this team. He’s improved as a receiver and he’s excellent on STs.

  54. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Damn it Tim open another beer

  55. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

All said, I’d like to see our scrub come back and win the game against their scrubs. 😉

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

It’s the joy of preseason. You can either say our top guys beat their top guys or that my team won the game. Two ways to win. 🙂

  56. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Lol…we have two running QBs, Brissett and Sinnet!

  57. cue orob to say sinnet will win the super bowl, lol

  58. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

So I’m following the game via CBS Sports’ box score (will watch later) and there is this category never seen before. Wondering what is “FPNT” and you can’t hit on it for an explanation. Turns out it is fantasy points by whatever measure. New world my friends.

  59. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Refs missed a bad holding call right in the hole on that big run. Must want the game to be over. OL all most pealed Ledbetter’s shoulder pad over his head.

  60. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

I thought we outplayed them by a lot in the first half. I also thought the OL was not that good in the first half.

  61. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I agree with what everyone said earlier

  62. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

They got 346 total yards. We got 314.
Not exactly an offensive explosion, but two good Ds for sure.

  63. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I liked what I saw from Tua even with int. I have no doubt the offense will be much more open than last year.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Yeah, he should have pulled it down and ran. That said, he thought he had the TE open. Shaheen beat the LB covering him but he didn’t see the safety coming over. That INT was all on Tua not Shaheen as some think.

      • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

in fact, my first thought was if he had thrown the ball lower (where only Shaheen could get it) the safety wouldn’t have gotten the pick. But the point is moot if Tua never even saw the safety.

  64. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

We saw more of the Tua I saw at AL.

  65. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

The universe declared I was not to be able to watch today’s game in peace.

My mom showed up right as the game started and needed cheering up, so I had the sound down while I talked with her and watched the game. So the whole game I was multitasking actually watching, lol.

I had nothing but problems with my feed. Watched a good part of the game on Game Pass, but it was constantly pixelating, then the feed just dropped out half way through the 4th quarter, couldn’t get it back on my ‘puter, nor the playstation.

I tried to move over to the illegal stream, got it playing, then it froze 30 seconds in, I finally said “eff it” and didn’t throw the remote at the TV, so good times…

In just one quarter of play, I think it was pretty evident that Tua is a different guy this year. He was very accurate on those mid range and deep throws, and he looked confident with where he was going with the ball. He made a poor choice on the INT, was a little late with the throw, but overall he moved the ball- and without most of his top receivers. I’m excited to see more of him and the new offense.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Sorry you had problems watching the game, but be happy that part of it was your Mom showing up. Man would I give up watching any Dolphins game to spend some more time with her.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

It was random, but I’m always willing to put anything aside for my mother.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

You are a good man. Miss my Mom a lot and not sure would have been real polite to her if she walked in while watching the Phins when she was around.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

      Sorry about your mom…

……but, remind me not to invite myself to your house to watch the game, CK! Even if you’re a great cook! LOL!

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

LOL, I usually have my setup dialed in, but today was a nightmare. Once mom called asking to come over (literally less than 5 minutes into the game, lol), I knew it just wasn’t meant to be.

A big part of the problem is NFL game pass. It’s had nothing but problems the last week+ since they started installing a new interface. The games have gone in and out of availability, there have been about 10 new version installs on the playstation. Freakin’ annoying.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

And that wasn’t about your mom, it was about your electronics.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

no worries, bro, I followed what you were saying 🙂

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

        OK….thanks for clarifying…lol

  66. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Javonte Williams 3 carries for 27 yards. Also had a TD called back for holding.

  67. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Denver got some speed also with Jeudy and KJ Hamler.

  68. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Our punt return game was electric boogaloo, and our 1st string defense looked good. I wish Fields had started instead of Dalton. I’d have liked to see him play against our 1s.

  69. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Haack wasn’t very consistent last year in punting the ball deep, but he was extremely consistent in not putting the ball in the endzone for touchbacks- very good dropping it inside the 20.

Pankey hit at least two poor punts that ended up touchbacks that really shouldn’t have been.

  70. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Orob, if you didn’t think Tua was night and day from any game he played last year, I don’t know what else to say to you…..you’re just being ornery….lol.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

You do realize that only way to get ORob is to say his name three times? lol

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The thing about Tua when he gets real comfortable as his career goes on with his team, his accuracy is off the charts.
“The Alabama offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has a certain way of looking at the throwing accuracy of quarterbacks. All of them can drop back seven steps and hit a house with the ball. Some of them can hit the door. A few can even hit the doorknob.

“Tua,” Daboll said, “can hit the keyhole.”

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I’m convinced of that within 10 yards (including if the actual throw goes for more yards). Real accurate arm.

Not so sure as to deep. And if it is deep not talking about a keyhole unless he is the best deep passer in the history of the NFL. He might be real good at it though. Just haven’t seen it yet.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Seriously? We saw some of that today. Even his pick was right on target. The problem was Shaheen sat down in the endzone as a stationary target, Tua threw it late and the safety read it. But the ball was on the mark. Tua will learn those open windows close fast. In that situation throw it low so it’s either caught by your receiver or it’s incomplete. That’s what Brady learned and he wasn’t that in his earlier years.

Stanger, go watch some Tua highlights at Alabama, his accuracy is off the charts. One of the best in the history of college football. It doesn’t matter that it was college, look at the accuracy. Plenty of deep passes. You seem fixated on that.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Think he is the best close in thrower you could ask for. Nothing saw last season made me think was awesome at the deep throws. But if you think he is great on the deep throws gonna ride with your opinion. Few people whose football knowledge have greater respect for. You are just so good at looking at football. I am not. So time to just ride with what you say.

  71. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I’m sorry to say my friends but after watching Tua throw that pick, and it wasn’t the pick or him throwing into tight coverage that concerned me, what did concern me was his release point.
    way low again!

  72. Capt. Stubbs's avatar Capt. Stubbs says:

Good game. Like what i saw out of tua! Worried about are utilitarian line though. Definitely need more push

  73. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    LMAO!!!!

  74. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

in the video at .49 you can see him lean away from the ball in his hand as he’s throwing it, he does that to generate power couple that with is sub 6 ft stature and the ball comes out way too low.

his brain knows how high his arm is at the release point and when he gets pressured with guys near him his brain knows he cant get the ball over that obstacle, so he gets stuck.

    same ole Tua, nothings changed

  75. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I’m predicting a horrible start, at best 1-4, maybe 0-5

  76. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

they screwed the pooch dumping Fitz, he’s way better than Tua.

  77. Capt. Stubbs's avatar Capt. Stubbs says:

I would of liked to have seen him come back out after the int. Let him get back on the horse . I think that play was more wr. Then qb. As a wr you always fight back to the ball. It’s not a fair catch

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It was PS game #1 and nobody really cares about that stuff. This was get into football shape and mode. Nothing more. 🙂

      • Capt. Stubbs's avatar Capt. Stubbs says:

I hear you. Overall I thought it was great…. any football at this time is great. However I’m easily pleased.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Same here, it was cool to just see our team. PS scores and results mean nothing. I feel I say this every year. Once the RS starts do we ever go back to what someone did in the PS?

  78. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Stanger, all I do is watch and listen to people who evaluate talent. There was a reason Tua was being touted as the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft before his injury. It wasn’t because he’s a dink and dunk passer who can’t throw deep. Even after the injury we selected him at #5 because of what the tape showed. We took a risk that he will recover and get back to what he was. That’s where we are now, it’s his job to prove he is that guy that everyone thought he was.

Think about a RB who isn’t the biggest or fastest, but vision and instincts makes him very productive. That’s Tua at QB. We have a very small sample size from him in the NFL.

Tank for Tua wasn’t because he’s good at checking down and throwing 10 yards.

ORob, there were also big lineman on both sides of the ball in the SEC. Lots of them end up in the NFL.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

And all I said was don’t know how good Tua is deep, which seemed to be a problem for you. Many articles have read have said the same. And again — no one’s football knowledge on the board do I respect more than yours. You are so insightful and come out with so many facts no matter where you get them.

Is it OK at times for me to say “I am not sure”? Cause seemed it wasn’t.

  79. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I didn’t get to watch the game and I only saw two Tua throws, the best and worst ones. I’m sure Tua will have a great year and it’s just the PS…but that was a terrible pass. Not the pass itself but throwing into double coverage with your man sitting in his route is bad decision making. I’m sure he will remember this for next time and his options will be better in the real games. Now to prepare for Atlanta!

  80. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The bottom line is we’re just entering the 3rd year of what Grier/Flores is building. Not sure 11-6 will make the playoffs this year just like 10-6 didn’t last year. The AFC is going to be tough and I like it like that. It’s time to take the next step in all three phases. 🙂

We don’t want to be just okay or back into the playoffs, but be the team that earns a playoff bid. You can’t win it if you’re not in it.

  81. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Objective….are you talking to yourself Orob? Because you are not that, for sure.

  82. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

ORob, the worst thing I saw today was the OL. Was that sunshine and lollipops? Slow your roll, it all starts up front.

We all know you don’t like Tua and we expect the same from you like a broken record. I also felt our pass rush was meh. But we played very vanilla. Take it for what a 1st PS game is and stop acting like it’s all about Tua. It’s not. This team like every other team is not RS game ready. We’re veteran fans, act like it.

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I understand it’s preseason, this is a QB league, that is the most important and difficult position to play. it’s the difference between winning and losing.

going back to last year Tua was the worst in the league in deep ball eff, he couldn’t get it to his rec, hearing all this hype about how he’s improved, i don’t see it.

it’s his mechanics not his play today.

he has the same exact mechanics as he did last year, and i fear he’ll have the same results as well.

Tua didn’t play bad today, he drove the team and was very accurate, but he wasn’t playing against a DCs gameplan,

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

So, you saw no improvement today from ANY of his games last year? That is your final assessment?

You keep talking about the past…..is there someplace it’s written that is the present? Apples to oranges but keep living in the past.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I saw the same leaning away from the ball to generate power with a low semi sidearm release, same as last year. what else can you gauge a player by than his past performances?
        same release, same result.

LMAO…on which play was there the “same result”? The interception? That was poor judgement, not throwing mechanics. Hopefully, he won’t do that again…he fucked up.

Shaheen dropped a ball that hit him the gut. Why he thought that was the proper way to catch a ball, not sure.

9-11 is pretty fucking accurate….and his mechanics affected which throw? I’m trying to understand what your saying.

I saw the Tua that I saw at AL….he made every throw but he threw them in tighter windows. LOL…their were no windows in college, it was open air. He still anticipated and threw with accuracy. Nice.

Can he take it the NFL? We shall see. However, I was encouraged.

  84. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

TK, the D looked pretty decent with the 3 and outs. Some nice DB play. We need all of them, lol.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah our 1’s and 2’s on defense without X and Jones and many others were pretty damn good. It’s all about getting ready for the season. These are just practice games with refs like someone else mentioned. It’s that way every year.

None of us will even mention the PS on opening day. 😉

if i’m the opposing DC, i’m going to crowd the LOS, play man to man, I’m going to take away the run and short passes. i’m going to put pressure on Tua with an occasional blitz.

i’m definitely loading the box, Tua will have to beat me deep, he will have to beat me with his weakness.

that’s what Denver did to him, they played like they had 12 guys on the field.
Tua didn’t break 100 yards passing. Fitz had no problem with the same guys against the same D

  86. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I couldn’t catch the game (work), saw the highlights, saw many comments on Twitter (beat writers and the smart fans) and here, and all I can say is this…

    1) Tua looked good minus the INT, by nearly all accounts. That 50-yarder to Gesicki was placed PERFECTLY so that he could get YAC. Last year, that pass may have ended up as a jump ball.

    2) Our ‘1st-team’ pass-defense looked GREAT (again, by nearly all accounts), and we didn’t have many of our Secondary starters playing: NICE!

    3) i know it’s early… I KNOW IT’S EARLY… I KNOW IT’S EARLY… but our O-Line has a long way to go, SMH. On the Jacoby Brissett TD-pass to Salvon Ahmed, Austin Jackson got absolutely owned by Ledarius Mack (Khalil’s younger brother), who was a UDFA after last year’s Draft. Ledarius was cut from the Bears’ PS last year and is trying his best just to make their team.

I realize the Bears have a pretty good DF7, but our O-Line didn’t rise to the occasion. We’ll get it ironed out, but that HAS to improve if we’re to go anywhere this season. We’ll get there, but the sooner we figure it out, the better.

That’s all I’ve got… two positives and one negative. Oh yeah, and Michael Palardy… NICE PUNTING today!

    GO PHINS!!!
    HELL YEAH!!!

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Tua had a clear throwing lane on that pass to gesicki

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I don’t disagree, but that’s what Tua didn’t have last season all too often. He was still recovering from his near career-ending injury and couldn’t move nearly as well as he can this season.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

We agree about the OL…and I just don’t get Austin Jackson or some are blaming Kindley, but left side seemed particularly bad. I know that’s Tua’s fault…lmao.

  87. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ahhh… yes the past. Tua’s college stats in the most competitive division in college football the SEC was this. “same release, same result.” He struggled so much. LOL

  88. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The Evil Genius would take Tua in a heartbeat. He’s perfect for what he looks for in a QB. Accuracy and intelligence.

  89. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

i certainly hope we go 11-6 as Tim said earlier, i’m sure we make the playoffs with that record.

i just don’t see it happening, we’ll be lucky to go 8-9

  90. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I think Grier and Flores made a career ending mistake by not taking Justin Herbert, this is their 3rd year together, if Tua shits the bed which is highly likely they are on the hot seat!

  91. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Here are all of Tua’s pass-attempts from earlier. His arm is noticeably stronger than last season, his footwork is noticeably better than last season, and his confidence (not afraid to thread the ball into tight windows) is noticeably better than last season.

This is the new Tua… bigger, smarter, stronger, with better technique than even the Tua from Tuscaloosa, pre-injury.

  92. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I said I don’t think 11-6 will be enough. Okay ORob, this seems to be your thing. This is why you’re considered a troll by some. You harp on the same negativity over and over. We all know a few people like that.

    Go Phins!!!

  93. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    I just finished the game!
    ‘Starting’ D was lockdown!
Tua looked good! (Never throw late over the middle!)

Did they call holding once on Chicago’s OL???????????????

Did you get tired of chocking on Fields dick through the TV???????

  94. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I loved the 30 yard touch pass to Gesicki…..seemed like the motion and strength were just fine.

I’m out. Just got called up by friend.

TIM TEBOW is trending on Twitter!!! You hear that, Tim?!! LOL 😉

  96. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Do you maroons have a clue how a fire burns?

The heat of the flame itself keeps the fuel at the ignition temperature, so it continues to burn as long as there is fuel and oxygen around it.
