Very important to keep in mind that the first game was really the first action against a different opponent other than each other and the coaches are just trying to see guys execute plays, all the while keeping it simple and vanilla so to speak, not giving any future opponents a real glimpse of what this offense and defense are going to do once the season starts. If you can do that, you probably won’t be so disappointed with what you see.
The first game showed some weakness with our O-line. Once again, not very concerned by that. It has nothing to with the lack of talent our O-line faces in practice against our own D-line (read that a few places), or that our O-line is fat, sloppy and overweight and slower than than last year (read that too). It’s preseason game one and we’re trying guys out at different spots and we all know synergy and continuity is something an O-line lives and dies by. Hard to have synergy with different people all over the place. That’s my take anyway. If the regular season begins and we’re in game 3 and this O-line looks slow, fat and lethargic I’ll let the worries commence.
The decisions at WR are going to be difficult, but Allen Hurns wrist injury just made one decision for them. He’s on IR and my guess is unless we get to get game 8 and we need him, he’ll probably never see action in a Dolphins uni. 2 of our WR’s are ST’s stalwarts and that cannot be overlooked. Jakeem Grant and Mack Hollins almost have to make the cuts because of that alone. Parker, Fuller and Wilson are the 3 vets that look to be locks, although I personally wouldn’t consider Wilson a lock. With the injuries that all 3 vets have endured, and how their spotty availability hurts the team, I wouldn’t consider him a lock. The question is, which young WR’s other than Waddle make the cut? Lynn Bowden Jr., who the Dolphins traded a 4th RD pick for last season would be one I think makes the roster. Preston Williams, the big 6’5 oft injured WR brings talent and size but also the injury bug too. Kirk Merritt has been having a nice 2021 so far but has to be a long shot. I think Ford faces astronomical odds of making the roster. Parker, Fuller, Waddle, Hollins, Grant and then pick one or two more. The rest of the preseason will decide that.
At RB, Salvon Ahmed has got some people giddy but I still think Myles Gaskin in the “lead back”. Not quite the same as Derrick Henry lead back in TEN but I consider him to the be the recipient of the most playing time. If Brown can give us the tough yards and grind out defenses, I think that could really limit Ahmed’s touches, although both Gaskin and Ahmed can catch out of the backfield equally as well, but I think Gaskin is the slightly better player.I don’t which young RB makes the roster out of Scarlett or Doaks or if the veteran Laird makes the cut. I guess the rest of the preseason will tell us the story there as well.
At TE, Gesicki is the clear choice with rookie Hunter Long hobbled by a leg injury and still sporting a thick knee brace. Smythe, Shaheen, Myarick, Tucker and Carter round out the depth there. I know some of you disagree but get Gesicki signed soon before he nets 70-80 catches for a 1000+ yards and 8 TD’s, because then the contract will be much higher than it will be now.
On defense, I really want to see our young OLB get more playing time. I’ve said it before he should be a big difference maker in our difference and if he’s not on the field, rookie Jaelan Phillips won’t be doing that. Hope to see him in action against Atlanta and hope to see good things. On the defensive side, Emmanuel Ogbah is the defense’s Gesicki. Sign him now before his contract is one we can’t afford. Shocked that LB Elandon Roberts is coming off the PUP (Good news!). Vince Biegel has been brought along slowly and despite being activated, I’d expect the same from Roberts.
I still hold to my prediction for the O-line as JACKSON – KINDLEY – DEITER – HUNT – EICHENBERG. Stay tuned. I look for Tua to have a nice game this week. The O-line will be better and the worries will subside. Want to see Phillips make a play or two that make us all think “Wow, this kid is gonna be something”. I want to see some tough, grinding runs from Brown, bullying would be tacklers for extra yards and then watch Gaskin and Ahmed come out looking like world class sprinters. I want to see more good things from Grant on returns and I want to see Gesicki and Waddle make some more big plays. I want positives, less negatives and of course no injuries!
GO DOLPHINS!!!

Play 3 is the catch to Gaskin I was referring to below
I agree with this, using the first Gaskin catch as an example, where he caught it on the left side, with the throw pulling him away from the defender, if it had been thrown anywhere else…no first down

Accuracy shouldn’t be measured by completion percentage; placement is key.
The

piled up 101 yard after the catch Saturday while Tua Tagovailoa was in the game.
OH YEAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Busted the page turn!
The difference in this blows my mind. Maybe explains why when droughts and famines come they have massive deaths.
“The median age in North and South America, Europe, and Asia ranges from 32 to 42.5 years. The age demographic structure of sub-Saharan Africa is much younger—the median age is 18.”
it’s because the life expectancy in sub-saharan Africa is much lower. Disease, constant war, poverty all take there toll.
🍺
Sounds like a result of the massive deaths
Bet the average age at death is quite low too
And they have to be popping out a whole lot of kids as well. 18 when the rest of the world is 32 to 42?

Bruce Arians says K Ryan Succop (who is vaccinated) has tested positive for COVID and will miss Saturday’s game in Houston.
I bet when he got vaccinated he felt it
In other words those that get a reaction from the vaccine are the ones susceptible to covid, and need to be vaccinated
Without the vaccine he’d likely have been hit hard
that is the oposite of the facts Steve. Those who have a strong reaction to the vax are having a STRONG immune reaction. That is why the second dose usually has worse side effects than the first. For me I had already had it back in Feb ’20 before there was available testing. (I had the antibody test to confirm last Oct) When I got the first shot I had a pretty strong immune reaction. (Fever, body aches, chills) about 12 hours after the shot which lasted about a day. My second shot put me down (again about 12 hours later) for two days I was exhausted, fever, body aches)
The stronger the reaction the stronger your immune system is fighting it.
I agree with that, but my point was those who can get the disease need the vaccine, any side effects from vax are likely going to be less, than results from you getting covid and if you have a reaction to the Vax you can get the disease
Not to start a debate here, but that is why, even though I have had it and have been fully vaxed I still wear the mask if I am going to be in public or a crowded place. My close friend’s wife passed away last week from complications due to covid. He got the vax and she refused to. So sad. It was her SECOND infection with Covid. She was hospitalized back in February with it, “recovered” (though not fully) and got sick again 2 weeks ago. She passed last thursday.
That’s kind of what I’m talking about, if you were hit hard by it you’re the type that 100% should be vaccinated
For me I was asymptomatic, carried it, passed it to my GF, then when I got vaccinated didn’t feel a thing
They say when you get vaccinated and you have symptoms it’s working
May she rest in peace. Can’t believe she didn’t get vaccinated after the first hospitalization though. Obviously your buddy was telling her too.
Steve, exactly. When you “Feel it” from the vax it is because your body recognizes the “Danger” and reacts the way it would to a true infection. (raises body temperature to help kill off the pathogen, bones ache because of the marrow being activated to create antibodies, etc.) the stronger the reaction the better your body is at recognizing and reacting to the threat. Those who do not have a strong reaction should probably consider the booster later on.
and just so I am clear, when I say “side effects” I am actually referring to the immune response, not side effects like the blood clots caused by J&J’s vaccine which uses a disabled adenovirus to deliver the genetic material as apposed to the Pfizer or Moderna which are mRNA vaccines.
Did we sign a new WR🤪
I think he just did a vet move and showed up for camp when he wanted to show up at camp. Those suicides are a biotch.

Especially since they’re so sure he’d be ready for week 2

– QBs stay sharp
– Next man up mentality on display
He learned well from Flo, but I agree his teammates helped him a great deal
When you get sacks on stunts it’s a result of a team effort
All of his sacks, except the one of the pocket had lots of guys around the QB after lots of push
The sack out of pocket happened, because his teammates flushed him
This was a great double by Eichenberg, but poor recognition, he should’ve pushed the DT a little, then moved out to the second level

Tua was out there with Waddle, Parker and Fuller, folks. And now Preston Williams and Albert Wilson running around swiftly, catching passes from a Jacoby Brissett #MiamiDolphins
NICE!
Stanger, I am very sad for her loss, but she as totally brainwashed. They would argue about the things she believed vs what he believed all the time. I walking delicately here so as not to insult folks on here about their beliefs.
When I got the first dose she looked me in the eye and told me I was a fool and now Gates is tracking me…
I’ve read a bunch of stories about people on ventilators who still insist can’t have Covid. What a sad and strange world we live in.
He is a dental assistant so his employer “strongly recommended” he get the vax, which he did, but not without him taking the constant brow beating from her.
Guess the upside for the antivaxxers is that most of them won’t get hospitalized. Then they get to say told you so.
You have to weigh the risk of the vaccine vs risk of covid effects
I agree with Stanger, can’t believe she didn’t get the Vax after being hospitalized
Poor judgement and logic, at some point you have to forget about what the mediabis telling you and make an educated decision

That would be awesome. But man do those games turn on one play. And the team on injuries. Think we could go from 8-13 wins.
Don’t see the 8, think we can win with Tua or Brissett
Can’t really see 1 guy getting hurt, that derails the season
DL, LB and DBs have depth, but surely X or Byron out would be the biggest concern
WRs, RBs, TEs, QB or OL can withstand some injuries
I’m settled in at 10 or 11.
11 gets us a playoff spot
9 or less is a fail IMO unless we have a bunch of injuries that derail the season early on

We saved Bowden for another year as I hoped we’d do
Kinda surprised by Foster. He was playing well all camp, but we are pretty heavy at WR right now. They could also have their eye on a potential cut or two.
Didn’t they waive Foster injured?
Can you read😉
Lol D, could have their eye on a potential cut or two
I mean i get he is injured but waiving him even with injury settlement meant that they didnt feel he was good enough to hold a roster spot for or stash on IR for next year. Thats the shocking part to me.

Let’s get back to football.
On seven Tua-led possessions this preseason, the Dolphins offense has driven 83, 75, 66, 60 and 52 yards (60-yard drive ended in an INT)
The other 2 possessions: a 3-and-out with a drop and throwaway, a 2-minute drill that covered 20 yards in 2 plays
The 3 and out was the first Bears series
Hey, I wonder if I could do this?

Surprised about Foster, but maybe that is guys like Parker and Fuller coming back.
Not sure why Foster is such a big surprise, I always felt it would be tough for him to make the team. Who was he going to replace?
He was at least getting good press in camp, and this was just from 85 to 80. Maybe they wanted to give him a chance on another team.
He was waived injured.
Good point. Missed that. For me an explanation why in this round of cuts.
BBM has two Olympic metals in Rhythmic gymnastics

It was Rhythmic Farting. I won gold and Piggy won silver.
LMAO — you are still a pro athlete though. 🙂
The Steelers released T/G Aviante Collins. He was an interesting athletic prospect. His body just isn’t NFL ready. Needs more mass/strength.
RB Raymond Calais released by chargers. But we don’t need another small RB.
Never mind anyway, he’s injured.
Right now we’re rolling with Gaskin, Ahmed and Brown. I don’t see any of them being replaced off the waiver wire.
Yep, I was just looking in regard to future practice squad. Many of those spots will be filled with our own though.
No surprises in the cuts so far. Many getting released are injured.
My 2 surprises are Eluemunor and Ford, 2 guys that played some with the cheats last year
Never had Ford making it, but he’s serviceable
Guess Larnel now has a good shot to make it
We could always bring him back like we always do.
Preston Williams hanging in there. Think the team likes what he brings to the table when he’s healthy. Heard he was practicing.
He’s on so long as healthy. Never been a doubt he could play.
Yep!
Bowden went on IR. Have to think that means Grant makes the active roster.
Yes, unless he’s traded
Would really like to see the Nascar package with Grant, Fuller, Waddle and Wilson
And the 4.1 Bowden, but he’s on IR now
I think many were writing him off too quickly. I’d be very surprised if he didn’t make the team now.
I’d be real surprised as well. Bowden going on IR for sure increased the chances of him being on the roster though.
Preston Williams hanging in there. Think the team likes what he brings to the table when he’s healthy. Heard he was practicing.
————————————
Something tells me they are waiting until the final 53 when they can put him on IR and bring him back during the season without having to waive him. Unless he is healthy when the season starts.
Bowden can’t be brought back this season unless he is waived with an injury settlement. Then he would be available to be signed by anyone.
Didn’t think Bowden was beating him out anyway. Was he even returning punts? It seemed Perry was doing more of that.
Think he’s ready now to practice and will be ready game 1, maybe even starting
Who?
Preston
I thought that’s who you meant.
Merritt could end up being our new Isaiah Ford for the time being. We only have Fuller signed for one season and Wilson is in his last year also. After this season, our WR corps gets thin again as far as speed.
The 2 WR’s at the bottom and big slow guys.
Parker, Williams and Hollis aren’t slow, they’re all 4.5 guys. But they also give us big range targets. Along with Gesicki we can attack teams with size and speed, and the quicker twitch guys with elite speed. We just need them to stay healthy.
Tim, I am talking very bottom. #’s 10 &11, Locksley 4.62 and McClain 4.70. Merritt and Bowden are the only with any kind of speed on the roster for the future is what I was getting at. Just talking future.
Guys to take the top off.
Gotcha!
BBMike, the WR position will definitely have some decisions and change next year. Hoping we can get through the season this year with the core group.
Yeah, this core group healthy is sick!!!
Sometimes wonder exactly how this stuff works.
Foster was waived/injured.
Foster played 35 snaps against the Falcons.
I believe he got hurt in that game.
Must have been at the end of the game and I missed it. Caught the TD though.

Steve had the exact same thought.
Methinks the Isaiah Ford experiment is finally over. We gave him every chance, ever since we drafted him in the 7th round of the 2017 Draft.
I suppose we could still bring him back to our PS, but the guy just hasn’t ever produced for us.
Spotrac currently has us at $2,479,327 under the cap.
God forbid we get a significant injury to one of our starters, we’ll be cap-strapped to sign a fair FA. I’m smelling tradewinds in the air… but whom?
Something I learned a long time ago: it’s very unwise to enter a season w/o a pad of at least $5M. Injuries are going to happen, and ya never want to be w/o a least a little bit of disposable income to augment those injuries.
And our Phins are usually VERY GOOD to have that $$$ on hand. We’ll see what happens…
I don’t know why, and he’s one of my favorite players… I get the sense that DeVante Parker could be traded soon. The trade would have to take the dead $$$ off our books, and the return might not be as great as we’d like as a result.
Hope I’m wrong, but I’m sensing it… and no, I haven’t seen or heard anything to make me think this. We still have an overload at the WR position, and the trade could free up lots of money for us… so as to extend the likes of Gesicki or Ogbah.
Can a team trade dead money off their books?
Absolutely. Happens all the time. It means that the trading team inherits the dead money, but we might get something like a 4th round pick in exchange.
I didn’t realize that, or maybe it’s obvious and I’ve just never thought it through, lol.
Trades have been exceptionally creative over the years, and we’ve seen some doozies.
So long as both teams agree to the terms of the trade, it’s all good.
That doesn’t make any sense, if you have dead money the player is no longer on your team
You can’t just trade cap space, unless this is something new to me
Examples please MF
mf13ss says:

——————
And I’m talking within reason, of course. If the NFL sniffs some collusion going on, the NFL has the right to nullify a trade.
We may get a little cap relief from guys currently in the top 51, that won’t be on the team at least 6 guys
Over the cap shows us at 6m under
What are we looking to do with more cap space in 2021?
we have 17 regular season games coming up, its good to keep SOME money around in case of injuries to players, and a new player is brought in
forexample
when part time wilson needs a ventilator, IV,s, bone grafting, transfusions, or surgeries, etc
and the team needs a real WR to take his place, the extra cap money is needed
M13, why are you worried about the cap? What Chris Grier is laying in a hammock with no thought on it whatsoever? LOL
maybe thats what he does on part time wilson, because it makes NO sense why the team pays him insane money to play once or twice every few years
because wilson is basically not there, should count against the dead cap, lol
With the exception of a few players the 53 is already decided. 😉
The wide receiver position is part time by nature. David, I’m not sure why you’re so hung up on Wilson not being on the field when none of our other wideouts can stay on it either. lol
I am excited to have Wilson on the team this year. He is going to kick ass!
I am excited to see Wilson kick ass part time too
No, teams cannot trade away dead money.
https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/why-nfl-trades-are-rare/1fwllykgo2amj1dka7oj352ah6
we’ll be cap-strapped to sign a fair FA.
——————————————
They can also create cap space by doing an extension with someone like Ogbah. Like take 5 mil off this year and add it to a signing bonus or something and spread it out over contract to start coming out next year.
I’d like to see Ogbah and Gesicki re-signed ASAP, but don’t see it happening before the season
We have a ton of cap space next year, but, we have a ton of people on last year of contract and/or here on 1 year contracts.
It’s kind of scary in a sense that about 1/3 (or more) of our roster who will probably make the 53 are free agents next year.
We are not in as good of cap space as some people think.
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/2022/all/miami-dolphins/#:~:text=Miami%20Dolphins%202022%20Free%20Agents%20%20%20,%20%20-%20%2032%20more%20rows%20
yeah, when you have a lot of cap, but also a lot of free agents it kind of washes out. you NEED to spend that cap.
We’ll be fine. I’m not sure what people are concerned about.
No one is concerned, we’re just trying to say we won’t have money to burn like in 2020, like many U75s keep saying
These idiots see 60m and don’t put it in perspective
That’s what I keep saying, but Tim says we’re in great shape
If we finish 2-15 and want to part ways with these players on the last year of their contract we’re in great shape for a rebuild, but that’s about all we’re in great shape for
Think it’s going to cost quite a bit to retain 17 or so new players, subtracting out the 7 or so drafted rookies will leave around 53m, so about 10 players at 5m each is just an OK cap position
In 2023 the cap will jump about 70m for each team, so that will help in 2022

I come up with 22 from the top 51, that will be FAs in 2022
Don’t see too many big names Fuller, Gesicki, McKinney, Ogbah, Brissett, Wilson, but there’s several
We’re in good shape, just not great
We won’t know the actual figure until we get down to 53, then after week 1, when Fuller goes onto the 53 we may see 1 more drop off
“(Tua has) got to be versatile from being able to check the ball down when it’s not there and get the ball in the hands of the backs or notice a match up in a man-to-man coverage, whether it’s a tight end or a running back, and being able to know the skill set of each receiver. They’re all different. Some are tall, some are short, some are pretty fast and quick and others are good contested ball receivers.”
There was long ones, tall ones, short ones, brown ones, black ones, round ones, big ones…crazy ones
Think we saw that on display against Atlanta
The pass to Gesicki down the seam, Gaskin to the left, where he put the ball in the perfect spot away from the defender, which allowed Gaskin to get the 1st down, the quick pass to Gaskin where he ran for 30…
Tua seems to also have good chemistry with Wilson and Hollins
You can see Tua in full command, when players do something they’re not supposed to be doing he let’s them know, but doesn’t Marino them
then down the middle, came Gesicki.
whispered in Tua’s ear, something crazy
he said…

I didn’t reply to anything a beat reporter said. I responded to BBM’s post who was showing concern, as well as others who are talking about this. I mean this season hasn’t even began and there’s discussion on how the cap is going to look next year. We’ll be fine. We don’t have any bad contracts weighing us down and no one who’s going to command huge money if we re-sign them next year. This front office has shown they know their way around the cap and doing what is best for the team. We’ve got draft capital to add pieces at lower costs.
I’m on the same page as you, with our cap situation, just don’t think anyone is concerned about 2022, feel they’re more putting into perspective the cap unlike those saying we have a ton of cap space
Panthers re-signed Robby Anderson to a 2 yr 29.5m extension
We may only have Fuller for 1 year, unless Grier wants to push the contract down the road
This really blew my mind
The fact that me an overfed long haired leaping gnome
Should be the coach of an NFL Team, huh
But there I was, huh
I was taken to a place
The hall of fame
👍👍
Spill that wine
Cap just gives us all concerns, we manage it well from what i have seen. Same people that created our cap windfall also are still managing it, so i dont have reasons to worry about the cap situation right now. You generally start worrying over that if we over extend ourselves to keep on player, which we haven’t done, or start to really spend like crazy in FA, which we also havent done. Its still perfectly manageable right now.
agreed. MIke Tannenbum has left the building. We should be OK.

Merritt could end up being our new Isaiah Ford for the time being. We only have Fuller signed for one season and Wilson is in his last year also. After this season, our WR corps gets thin again as far as speed.
—————————————————————
When we picked up Merrit in UDFA that’s what i saw, a much more fluid, shifty and speedy Ford. He offers more potential than Ford did. Ford was a solid route runner and he was a tough reciever who could be a good outlet guy but he didnt have the dynamic play potential Merrit does.
100% If Merritt can become the route runner Ford is, he will be a great find. I have seen that improvement this preseason so far. His arrow is pointing up, IMO.

lol, that’s a little ghey
Godsey talking about the different types of receivers got me thinking of Eric Burdon’s Spill the Wine
————————————————————–
Don’t worry, that’s perfectly acceptable these days and puts you in a protected class, so win win. You are from Cali so we always figured as much anyways.
sooooooooo
Practice was supposed to start at 10:10 today but I have not seen a single practice tweet. WTH?
BBM is in the middle of his re-instatement for NCAA athletics. Switching sports after being a career rhythmic gymnast take a lot of time, so we might have to dig it out ourselves today.
Rhythmic Farter, man. Rhythmic Farter!
I heard 10:30 but yeah nothing
Sb7, I am on board with you. 10-12 of those FA won’t cost much to sign as many are not starters but role players. I could see some of those getting done during this season regarding the ones they definitely want back.
I am very concerned. I believe someone has done something nefarious to our “young” friend D. Someone beside him has obviously taken over his WordPress account. The posts under his name are all to short and have a unfamiliar format. I think it is called a “Paragraph” This was the obvious give away.
I usually go to Phins.com and look at the twitter redirect feed they have on their news wire page. They used to do a good job collecting all the different Dolphins sources and posting them in one feed. Now it has been contaminated with the Freaking Eagles’s feed for some damn reason and there are no Dolphins tweets.
Still a bunch of BS texts. Can’t wait any longer. I have to go cut the grass before it rains, AGAIN. Rainiest summer ever. I have had to cut the grass every week this summer. Sucks! Big yard, .43ac corner lot, push mower, seems like miles of sidewalk to edge.
Wouldn’t be as bad if I weren’t so meticulous about my yard. lol
At least I will sweat off a pound or 2.
Not to mention poopy scooping (6 dogs) the back yard before I mow.
Rock, I go to Phins.com also. Then usually hit the link to thephinsider.com for the practice tweets.
BBL
Weird! ThePhinsider’s list is all about the Jagoffs.
LOL, D. You may find it hard to believe, but not everyone in CA is gay, but don’t let that stop your fantasizing. You do you 😉

____
The only time I’ll show any concern for the cap is if we decided to make another one of those Suh or Mike Wallace signings, which I don’t think will ever happen with this regime. Other than that, I don’t really care that much.
I totally forgot about that bench clearing fight against the Bengals last year when they cheapshotted danger mouse on the kickoff return. I wonder if there’s still any bad blood lingering in our guys’ heads.
Not to worry, Penfold has DM’s back.
Those pricks hit him with a cheap shot twice.

No, teams cannot trade away dead money.
—————
I beg to differ…
https://overthecap.com/trading-dead-money-nfl-expiring-contract/#:~:text=Dead%20money%20has%20historically%20served%20as%20an%20impediment,dead%20money%20as%20a%20driver%20of%20player-related%20trades.
That article isn’t written very well, the example of the Eagles traded a player to the cheats in 2013 explains what they’re trying to say in the first paragraph
What they’re saying is potential dead money can be traded, before it becomes dead money, once dead its dead and why its called that
That’s different from saying, in 2021 we’re carrying 1m of dead money for Rashad Jones, let’s trade that dead money and Grant to the Eagles for a 2022 3rd
He’s probably getting ready for Cincy if they try something again lol
Yessir! 😀
Why you think Flores had a woody when we drafted him
Beer for Rockphin!
Not surprised. Bridewater looked pretty good last game. I’m glad for him even though we will likely be competing against them for a spot.
Agreed on all accounts.

WOW! First Carl Lawson goes out for the year with a torn Achilles, now Vin Curry out for the year. Their pass-rush is gone.
Get well soon, Vin Curry.
I’m loving the misfortune of the stej, but I feel bad for anybody who is seriously injured… they are people, too.
That’s sad but after wiping my tears and giving it some thought….fuck the jests!
LOL
F’n people here at work bothering me! I AM BUSY! I’M REPOSTING TWEETS TO A BLOG!
