Preseason Finale – Game 3 – Dolphins @ Bengals

This is it folks! Last game of the 2021 Preseason. Coach Flores has already put it out there most starters will sit so this is the opportunity for all those players on the roster bubble to make their case to be on the 53. It’s also a good chance to see what the depth looks like because during a season, injuries always rear their ugly head and you need solid depth to stay ahead during the season.

Jacoby Brissett will most likely see a fair amount of action and it’s important for him to show he knows the offense and can run the team in Tua’s absence. There’s always the question as to whether the Dolphins will carry 2 or 3 QB’s, my guess would be just 2. Reid Sinnett will end up on the PS and give the Dolphins another precious roster spot. Recent moves have made the WR depth much clearer. The Dolphins placed 2nd year WR Lynn Bowden Jr. on IR ending his season. The Dolphins also waived WR’s Robert Foster and Isaiah Ford. Veteran Allen Hurns was placed on IR earlier so the only bodies left are Will Fuller (Inactive Week 1), DeVante Parker, Albert Wilson, Jaylen Waddle,Preston Williams, Mack Hollins, Jakeem Grant, Kirk Merritt and Malcolm Perry. 9 WR’s , 6 for week 1. One has to go and I feel it will be Malcolm Perry. WIll the big bodied and oft injured Williams hold off equally as large and ace ST’s player Mack Hollins? I don’t think so. Merritt has had a strong preseason so he has a leg up, but there is still game 3 for Perry to change that. However, it looks very much like we’ll have Parker, Wilson, Waddle, Hollins, Grant and Merritt for the first game against the Patriots.

I expect us to carry 4 TE’s, Gesicki, Shaheen, Long and probably Smythe due to his blocking abilities. Myarick could steal his spot, and who knows, maybe it’s Shaheen that gets cut, but it sure seemed like they like Shaheen. Cethan carter also earn as a spot as an H-back/FB/TC, or maybe Long goes on IR because of his injury.

At RB, I think we’ll carry 4 into the regular season, the clear choices right now are the first 3, Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed and Malcolm Brown. After that it’s a real tossup as to whether 2021 7th RD pick rookie Gerrid Doaks makes it, or veteran Patrick Laird or a surprise like Jordan Scarlett. Game 3 will probably have a lot to say about which guy makes it!

On the O-line, still not decided (as far as we know), but I’m sticking with my prediction of Jackson-Kindley-Deiter-Hunt-Eichenberg. Still possible that either Eichenberg starts at LG over Kindley and Jesse Davis starts at RT but I believe it will be the former. Jermaine Eluemunor has also been released. You have to figure we carry at least if not 9 OL so the aforementioned 5 plus Davis, Skura, Little and either Coleman or Pankey.

On defense, despite not seeing a lot of Jaelan Phillips, I still think he’s going to be a major part of our defense. AVG looks ready to be right where he left off last season, and that’s a good thing. I really love our depth at LB with AVG, Baker, McKinney, Phillips, Roberts, Eguavoen, Riley, Biegel. Not sure if Griffin makes that final cut, especially since Roberts has been activated.

On the DL we have the usual Wilkins-Davis-Ogbah, followed by Sieler, Jenkins, Butler and Strowbridge. More than likely that last spot will be up for grabs between Jason Strowbridge and Jonathan Ledbetter, unless we carry 8 DL, which is possible. Benito Jones is still in the mix but Tyshun Render was moved to LB where he faces tough odds against the previously mentioned group.

The Dolphins strong secondary will be led by All-Pro Xavien Howard and Byron Jones at CB along with Nik Needham who refuses to give ground to 2020 1st RD pick Noah Igbinoghene. Good on Needham, who just keeps working hard! The safety group looks Rowe and impressive rookie Jevon Holland, followed by vet Jason McCourty, Clayton Fejedelem (ST’s ace), Brandon Jones (2020 3rd RD pick), Jamal Perry and Nate WIlliams. Probably 4 will make it here among the safeties with 6 CB’s. Perry and Williams are as good as gone leaving perhaps a battle between Fejedelem and Jones or we carry 5 safeties. CB’s should be Howard, Jones, Needham, Igbinoghene, Coleman, McCourty who can play both CB/S

Special teams will be standout PK Jason Sanders as well as newly acquired P Michael Palardy. Jakeem Grant and Jaylen Waddle as well as Noah Igbinoghene will handle the return duties. Long snapper Blake Ferguson returns.

There will always be some surprise cuts, some of the players I have making the roster won’t and some I have being cut won’t get cut. It’s fun to see how things shape up, let’s just hope that injuries don’t make these decisions for the team.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

True, but until the investigation is concluded how can his legal status be clear? Same goes for the NFL investigation, which can end up with him suspended even if not convicted of crimes.
    ______________________________________________
You have to figure that any payout would stipulate a no victim clause, also with his high priced lawyers i doubt the state would pick up the charges.
It would probably all go away.
and one would have to assume that there may be a settlement in the near future due to the trade talks.

Per my sources – An agreement between the Texans and Dolphins has been reached – deal to be finalized in the coming days. Deshaun Watson will be a Miami Dolphin 🐬 🚨🚨

“Watson would waive his no-trade clause for the Dolphins, according to multiple sources, just as he would have for the Carolina Panthers. However, the Panthers, per sources, are sticking with quarterback Sam Darnold at this time after acquiring him in a trade from the New York Jets. The Denver Broncos are sticking with quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.”

“And the Philadelphia Eagles, whose general manager Howie Roseman has conducted extensive due diligence into Watson’s complicated off-field situation, as have other NFL teams, aren’t one of the teams Watson would waive his no-trade clause for, according to league sources.”

The Dolphins are front-runners to trade for Deshaun Watson, per
    @CharlesRobinson

Teams are seeking pick protections in the event Watson is prosecuted or suspended in relation to sexual assault and harassment allegations from multiple women.

This one makes sense too, if you don’t think about it, trade would be for draft comp only, then if he’s suspended or prosecuted the trade could be voided

Most likely, if we made the deal we’d keep Tua this year, then once Watson is cleared or not we could finalize the deal

it would be saying FU to Tua, would destroy team chemistry, and would have no benefit to waiting

The texans probably want to get Watson off their books due to the looming cuts, with his no trade clause and miami being a fav destination for him is probably why negotiations heated up.

if we were to get watson and he can play, this team would be a legit SB contender!

  35. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

The reality is, he might not play another down in the NFL. So that is quite the “if”.

    It’s a dangerously foolish trade

If he didn’t have legal problems, I still think the price is too high. But his legal issues are very real and no team/agent/player/fan really knows where it might go.

You can’t pencil him in as a starter just bc he’s had a good career based on what’s in front of him.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’m sure the compensation would be hit with conditions and will not fetch the asking price.

    ****

That’s not really workable bc you can’t put a fixed date on when all of this will be resolved and it needs to be resolved by April to give back a conditional pick

It has to futures picks, no earlier than 2023 to really be safe conditional picks

This is really at the end of the day why Watson is not tradable unless the Texans are inclined to just unload him for really cheap or conditional picks well not the future

There’s just a big ? on his head

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Could be a time limit on when the cases are resolved in reference to when the compensation is credited.

give up both our 23 firsts, if cases are not resolved by jan 2023, compensation lessons dramatically.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Houston is nowhere near doing that, and I get the sense they don’t really want to trade him at all

  40. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

  41. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    ———————-

i have to agree with this, watson isnt needed in Miami, Tua has shown he can ball

also Watson is extremely risky in light of his character, whereas Tua is more of a choir boy that wont make any drama down the road

  43. if the Dolphins were foolish enough to gut their drafts for watson,

i dont know if I have the patience to watch that decision blow up in their faces, and start a new rebuild with no draft picks

  44. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Damn! Van Ginkle on IR, done for the year!

  45. Watson struggled to win games in Houston, of course it wasnt all his fault, but, he still struggled to get wins

QB are expected to be able to win games in the NFL< no matter where they are

to assume he can go to Miami and win super bowls, when he has not even shown he can pile up the wins in regular season games, is a foolish assumption

  46. “Obviously, the criminal investigation is ongoing and it doesn’t sound, based on my knowledge, that the Texans have made any move toward trading him at all,” said Ian Rapoport.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone familiar with this situation. Since the moment Watson requested a trade in January, followed by revelations of his alleged numerous sexual assaults coming to light, the Texans have not once indicated – in public – that they have any intention to trade Watson.

The fact that they remain seemingly steadfast in their public position that he will remain a Texan moving forward was to be expected. Trading him at this point would be risky, in that it would selling low. Until Watson’s civil lawsuits and legal entanglements are resolved, teams will undoubtedly be reluctant swap a treasure chest for a player whose future – on and off the field – is murky.

Doesn’t make a lot of sense since they just drafted Jones, but when the entire premise (Dolphins trade for Watson) doesn’t make sense, the reasoning why it might happen isn’t going to make a lot of sense either, lol.

Outer bands just made their way in, pretty heavy rain for a few minutes then nothing which means I’m on the very outer perimeter of the storm where the cyclone starts to break up. I am east side but east side scary stuff is on the eye wall not so much outer bands.

All in all looks good right now. Outside of not being affected at all this doesn’t seem to be any sort of worst case scenario.

  49. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I’m glad we are talking Watson because it’s never going to happen and it makes the media look like the gossiping twits they are. It is good conversation fodder though.

It’s funny to see Flores verbally dismiss ‘me first’ guys and then have the same media talk about Flores and Grier never being on board with getting team first Tua. Flores has a daughter and I’m sure he’s raring at the bit to get a guy 20+ women accuse of ‘inappropriate behavior.” I’m sure Ross wants to field those kinds of questions. Same with Grier and Flores.

Grier says the door is always open and unfortunately that kind of stance allows anyone who needs clickbait to write about it…frequently. I don’t like that stance because it’s not true. If we had a 31 yr old Rodgers as our QB, the door would not be open for a new starting QB. X wanted a new contract…and the door was never truly open for a new starting CB. Sure, if he did everything possible to leave, but any reasonable attempt by him was taken by the Dolphins. It’s exactly what happened and should have happened. Everyone is tradable my ass.
