Vegas is giving Buffalo the home field advantage 3.5 points in our home…..

See what they have to say when they have to pay it out!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

It being our home game that’s 3 pts, add another 3 for Sept 1pm game and 3.5 for the line

So they think Buffalo is 9.5pts better than us at a neutral site

      Come on man

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

        Thought home was 3.5

Oh well. Same point. Where do you get the 3 for playing in Sept? Just making shit up now?

  2. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Saw Jevon Holland Balling yesterday. #8 was like in every shot they showed of the Defense. PFF’s highest rated rookie game 1. NICE

Keep up the good work young man!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Nice that Flo got him in the game without the added pressure of starting

With McCourty grading out high too, it was a good move

Now if they both have high grades against Buffalo we’ve got something

  3. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Dink N Dunk worked well for Brady’s first couple of years. Lots of pick routes / rub routes over the middle. High percentage short throws. SO FAR Jones looks the part of an NFL QB and good competition.

  4. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I have to give THIS to O-rob. He was right about how Belicheat tried to stop our O. The box was VERY crowded yesterday.

How did we beat it? With quick passes and by spreading the D horizontally and then taking the vertical shots when they presented themselves.

If not for special teams and D it WOULD NOT have been enough.

    Good complimentary football won yesterday.

  5. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Were not our 2 TD drivers our first possession of each half? If so we have to find a way to translate that to the rest of the game.

  6. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Starting to think should just relax and accept this defense as for real. Last year was great that the D was like top 5 in fewest points allowed, but in yards allowed it was middle of the pack. Difference was in turnovers and holding them to field goals, but those are about luck more than anything right?

Yesterday Pats kick 3 field goals and without two fumble recoveries we don’t win the game. Has to be luck? Maybe not. And there were two other fumbles we didn’t recover.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

It’s not luck. D was definitely game planned to force Pats into long 10-12 play drives. That creates opportunities to cause turnovers which our D is good at. We forced 3 fumbles and recovered 2.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Yep — part of what am starting to realize is not luck. A concerted strategy. Includes all those DBs back there and different fronts with crazy combinations of players coming at the QB…. or sometimes not coming at the QB instead.

  8. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I think they should wear the throw back white jerseys with dark pants next week.

  9. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I have always liked Mike Vrable. LOL It does fall in that category

  10. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I thought it was weird that the first possession of each half was so well executed and nothing else was too

But that really speaks to how prepared the team was

I hope they bring that same energy next week and can sustain in on consecutive drives

It was like two different offenses: the offense after the first half and everything else

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Both halves started tied, so we needed to score, wonder if they just weren’t a little too cautious, because we had the lead

3 times we got the ball tied or behind 2 tds 1 fg

That says they were playing it close to the vest

    • bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Yeah Pig, I agree with your thoughts on this, I commented on the same thing above.

  11. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Flores has seen far too many teams go into Foxboro with a big lead, only to get reffed out and lose, he may have chose this safe method just to get a win

  12. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    Stats Schmats

Mac Jones’ 74% completion is the best mark ever for a rookie quarterback logging 30-plus passing attempts in a game.

Gotta give credit where credit is due: Mac Jones had one helluva game in his NFL debut, and I don’t think we (or anybody else) were expecting that kind of game from him. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t get AFC Rookie of the Week honors.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

If I was a Pat fan would have walked away with two thoughts.
      1 — they got lucky.
2 — we got the right guy for the future at QB.
And would be telling myself that #2 is far more important.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Agreed! And I hate to acknowledge as much being the Patsies* are our mortal enemy, but Mac Jones looks to be the real deal.

  15. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Myles Gaskin… man. Not only did he lead our team in rushes and rushing yardage (9-49 yards: 5.4 YPC), he also lead our team in receptions with 5 (for 27 yards, 5.4 YPR, 5 targets, 100% CATCH).

That 5.4 YPC/R makes 2nd and 3rd downs very manageable for us, and often times gets the 1st down for us. That’s called RELIABLE.

No, he’s not going to lead the league in rushing yards or receiving yards, but he’s our low-key weapon who doesn’t get enough attention… very much like Patsie* RBs of their past. He’s our secret weapon.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I would like to see him used more as a feature back. I think he is a weapon

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I agree, but that’s not the “Patsie*” way that Coach Flores is employing. Seems we’re not going with a featured back anytime soon, which further explains why we didn’t draft a top-notch RB early this past Draft.

Speaking of as much, Najee Harris didn’t do squat for the Steelers* yesterday.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

If that first sentence read funny, I’m talking about how Coach Flores is employing the “Patsie*” way, which means no featured RB.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Najee had some nice plays in the TD to take the lead drive, in redzone

  16. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    SB7 and David,

Yes, we had pressure on Mac Jones yesterday. No, we didn’t get there quite on time. Yes, Mac Jones surprised the crap out of everybody in his NFL debut.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Think he performed about the way most expected

Was hoping he wouldn’t go off and perform above my expectations

Thought we’d sack him more than the “2” times we did

      Tua performed below expectations

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Going into the game, I thought Mac Jones would be sacked at least 4 times, throw at least 2 INTs, and throw well below the nearly 300 yards he passed for yesterday.

Now mind you, we did NOT throw the kitchen sink at him… that was part of our gameplan, so as not to put too much on tape.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Agreed, Tua performed well below expectations. But again, we did NOT throw the kitchen sink at them.

  17. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Funny… where did the expression “throw the kitchen sink at them” come from? I have no idea, whatsoever.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

It’s game 1, need to show stuff gradually as you need it

Those teams that put everything out there game 1, then look like crap the rest of the season like maybe Jags last year, Philly/Houston this year

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

That’s right, man! Gradually as you need it. It’s very unwise to show the rest of the league all the tricks you have up your sleeve in game 1. It’s a marathon, not the 100-meter dash. 🙂

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Huge play yesterday

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Yes, it was a huge play yesterday. But was it really Godsey pulling something DEEP out of the mystifying and riddled playbook our Phins have? NO.

It was a mere crossing route to our biggest WR, something that’s been done thousands of times by other teams… most notably, the Arizona Cardinals with Larry Fitzgerald for nearly two decades.

Chris Coughman, like, needs to gain perspective.

VERY dangerous to play DeVante inside… same goes for all of our other receivers. Play inside on us, and our speed will kill on the deep and boundary passes.

Man, we can be just joking in the locker room and guys like, ‘I’m going to punch one out today.’ It’s just embedded in our defense and even our team. It’s just a true testament of taking it from the practice field, the lunch room and the meeting room because guys can walk around with a football and a defensive guy will just punch it out just trying to be funny. We can’t help ourselves because when we see ball, we want to punch it out.”

  32. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We have a very young team and lots of guys who have not played together for very long or at all. Week one got the main players involved and the opportunity to knock some of the offseason rust off. It’s always better to clean up the mistakes and continue to build on things after a win.

    • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Dolphins.com credits Rowe, Howard and Holland 1 each

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Does that count the one early on. I thought it was a sack by Wilkins but I think Jones just through it backwards avoiding sack and it was a fumble that The Patriots recovered

Does anyone know what I was talking about

It may not show up on a stat sheet bc they didn’t credit a defensive player t

      • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

You can see the Mac Jones fumble here on this stat sheet

    https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/J/JoneMa05/gamelog/2021/

I don’t think a defender was credited bc it was a backwards pass trying to avoid pressure

I though it was a sack fumble when I saw it live

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

    Am I going crazy

Doesn’t that make it 4 fumbles

  40. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

4 fumbles are a lot of fumbles in one game

Much less on Foxboro by the Patriots

I don’t know if any of you remember deflategate, but as I recall there was an allegation concerning an absurdly low fumble rate by the Patriots at home

  41. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Ken

    Espn box score
    https://www.espn.com/nfl/boxscore/_/gameId/401326313

Shows a sack against Mac Jones but no sacks for the Dolphins as a team or any of their players

I think that has something to do with the roughing the passer penalty that negated the sack

  42. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    So in conclusion

    It’s not 3 fumbles – it’s 4
One isn’t listed as forced bc it’s being called a lateral but that’s a fumble
And it was certainly forced by pressure

And 4 fumbles is a lot to force in one game. I don’t remember seeing our defense ever do it

But it’s exceptionally rare against the Patriots in foxboro where they have historically low fumbles on offense

    And that’s pretty cool

Hopefully next week we can cause 8 fumbles vs Buffalo….l

  59. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Ok, I finally got the replay on gamepass. That was straight up an INT by Humphries, and it’s very clear on the replay. I am amazed nobody playing, announcing, or reffing the game noticed!

Humphries knocked the ball down and it got pinned against Waller’s back and Humphries legs. He would have been down by contact, and the Ravens should have had the ball right there. Instead the Raiders punted.

How the hell was Humphries not aware of that INT? I guess it’s just like the Raiders player who thought he’d tackled the RB in the backfield and was too busy walking away from the play celebrating to notice the RB never went down. Luckily his teammates cleaned that one up. SMH

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Or maybe it wasn’t an INT because he threw the ball away before he made a football move, lol, but either way, he blew it.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

So, I think it’s likely the refs were probably aware and called it incomplete because he never fully controlled the ball. He stood up with it and threw it instead of securing it because he was completely unaware. What a moron.

I was checking out the power rankings this week. I know, I know they are just arbitrary opinions but I still find the logic or lack of logic behind them interesting / infuriating.

in NFL . Com’s rankings we opened the season at #14 which I thought was generous due to the negative outlook always cast on the team. We beat the pats at home and moved up 1 spot to #13. Meanwhile the pats opened at #13 and dropped two spots to #15…. (the logic in that being they were more bad than we were good?) Buffalo opened the season at #3 and dropped to #6 after the loss to Pitt while Pitt climbed from 10 to 5…

I am waiting with bated breath for the spin next week after we send Buffalo home with the 2nd L of the season. Do the Dolphins move up to 6 and the Bills drop to 13? Or do they force the logic and drop the bills to 13 and move the dolphins only 1 spot to 12?

I am willing to be hard cash that it will be closer to the latter than the former.

If we are 2-0 with 2 wins over division opponents, anything negative anyone has to say is worthless

Not that power rankings ever had any value
But if you are 2-0 with wins over a team like Buffalo that everyone said was ready for a run, it should mean something, even to the meaningless

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Checked a couple of them. In one we actually moved down from #11 to #13. Cause they had to make room for Pitt and some other team to move up. Seemed the overall impression was we got lucky.

If we beat the Bills, how about we worry about the power rankings then? 🙂

Yahoo and USA today actually dropped Miami’s power rating after the win….

    Yahoo Sports

    Ranking: No. 13 (11)

Analysis: “Tua Tagovailoa looked healthy and confident, two things that weren’t necessarily the case last season. It wasn’t the prettiest win, but it was a division road win. Miami is the only team that got one of those in Week 1.”

    USA Today

    Ranking: No. 12 (11)

Analysis: “Where was fourth-year TE Mike Gesicki? Two targets, no catches, while batting a ball into the air that cost QB Tua Tagovailoa a pick. Ge-sickly.”

  87. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I don’t get concerned with these power rankings. I mean, it’s good to see us get respect from national outlets (which has been RARE over the last two decades!), but I’d rather fly under the radar.

If a measly USA Today sports columnist wants to demote us after a week 1 win in New England, oh well. No skin off my tail.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Right with you. What actually bugs me the most is when we become the national media sensation after say having the biggest money draft class. I’m thinking know the team and thing “why are all those dudes talking about us like that?” For some strange reason had less problems with times like Tank for Tua.

I want to say something: should anything (knock on wood) happen to Myles Gaskin, we’re going to be in deep poop. I seriously believe we aren’t set up to sustain ANY injury to our backfield: next man up won’t be enough with our current roster.

Me? I’d be exploring the potential options should Gaskin get injured, BEFORE he may get injured.

Several of us really wanted to sign Kerryon Johnson. The FA field is going to dry up quickly.

I actually think Ahmed is good and I liked what I saw out of Doaks

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’ve been most pleasantly surprised with Ahmed, but I don’t think he’s as good as Gaskin. Doaks is on our PS and didn’t earn 53-status… plus, he’s a bulldozer: he won’t replace Gaskin’s multi-faceted attack.

Call me crazy (LOL), but two cats draw my attention in a potential trade: Rashaad Penny and Kenyan Drake.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

You might be right, but then they had every chance in the world to bring in more RBs. And two are sitting there on the PS.

  91. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I really like how quickly Ahmed accelerates

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

He’s a good pass catcher as well, even though think he’s more an outside guy.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Me too: he doesn’t funk around. He had some nice runs for us last year, to boot. I don’t feel he’s quite as talented as Gaskin, but he’s not chopped liver, either.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Regardless (again, knock on wood), should Gaskin go down, we would need to replace his skill-set. Ahmad may do nicely, but then we’d need somebody to backup Ahmad.

Hopefully one of our PS players could do as much… but I’m not so certain.

  92. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

“The Dolphins were credited with nine quarterback hits in the game, more than twice as many as the Patriots had on Tua Tagovailoa.”

  93. i agree with MF, it would be nice to have another back for insurance if Gaskins goes down

if we can, we should bring back Kenyan Drake, he still has the blazing speed according to next Gen stats

  94. here is every one of Mac Jones passes Sunday, there are many plays he has all day to throw, but there are also plays where he bought extra time by stepping up, or running to the side, and had an open throw.
but, to the rookies credit, he has about 12-14 plays where Miami did have some pressure on him, yet he made the play.

he is mature beyond his years IMO, excellent decision making ability

The #Dolphins blitz rate during the game was 47.5%. They blitzed almost 41% of the time a year ago, for comparisons sake.

Mac Jones was 14-of-18 for 124 yards against the blitz (sacked once) and 7-of-10 for 71 yards and a TD against pressure. #Patriots

Yes, we pressured the $#!t out of Mack Jones, we just failed to get there on time. Mac Jones is better than most thought.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

In all fairness to everybody, even I questioned our pass-rushing prowess on Sunday’s game. We need to get BETTER. But let us NOT take anything away from Mac Jones… he had a studly NFL debut.

    • yes, we can agree the kid is talented, i posted all of his pass attempts above

while our blitz rate was a little higher, we didnt have enough pressure on him to take him out of his game, other than the first play he got sacked and fumbled

sometimes the pressure WAS good, and he beat it anyway, so he did very well for his team, it wasnt even his fault the RB fumbled the game away for them

but at the end of the day, there remains ALOT of room for improvement, in both run and pass defense IMO’

the Bills have a QB named Josh Allen, who torched our defense last year, We will need to pressure him enough to disrupt him, and Yes, we will likely need more turnovers, lol
