Game 4 – Colts @ Dolphins

Last week, I asked for the team to be competitive at the least, and in some ways they were, pushing the game to overtime before falling to the hometown Las Vegas Raiders 28-25. Now the Dolphins at 1-2 face a failed first quarter of the season unless they can get a win against the visiting Indianapolis Colts. The team was very inconsistent last week, and honestly, there’s not one unit, including the vaunted special teams that looks right yet. Both the offense and defense are still struggling. The defense gave up 100 yards rushing to Peyton Barber who was in for the injured Josh Jacobs. What does that mean exactly? That was Peyton Barber’s highest rushing total in his 6 year career with the Bucs and Redskins. We definitely miss Raekwon Davis, and one could make the argument we miss Benardrick McKinney too. We did stymie the Raiders passing attack which was on fire for the first 2 games of the season with over 800 yards passing. Including overtime, Carr threw for 386 yards and 2 TD’s and 1 INT. Considering he lit up 2 of the premier defenses in the NFL in Game 1 and 2 with the Ravens and Steelers respectively, I think we did well against their passing attack. You could also make the argument they didn’t have to pass as much because of their success on the ground and I’ll agree with that too.

I have been begging for the Dolphins to use TE Mike Gesicki and they finally did use him. He got the targets I wanted him to get but he was basically a forgotten man until the 4th quarter and OT where he finally finished with 12 targets and 10 receptions. No gaudy numbers this game, it was desperation for Brissett, but why wait until the game truly hangs in the balance to use your best target? I’m not sure that two heads are better than 1, or that either OC we have is qualified. I haven’t seen anything from this combo that makes me feel like we’re a 2021 NFL offense. Yes, our starting QB is OUT, but Brissett is capable, but we haven’t found a way to cover for the O-line this season. Both QB’s are under constant duress and therefore have been completely unable to use the downfield speed we have in Fuller, Waddle and Wilson. No time for the QB has derailed the offense. I’ve seen Malcolm Brown out there, not for his rushing prowess but for his blocking ability. Gaskin is getting the job done running and catching but Brown is the better blocker. It’s unfortunate that our starting 5 on the O-line need help and more help to block the rush, and even then it’s shaky.

The Indianapolis Colts come to Miami at 0-3. Their starting QB, Carson Wentz has been injured but has played in all 3 games. Wentz and the Colts have similar problems as the Dolphins and Brissett. The Colts once had one of the more solid O-lines with 3X Pro Bowl G Quenton Nelson and long time LT Anthony Castonzo. Castonzo retired and Nelson is injured, so former Chiefs T/G Eric Fisher is at LT and former Jaguar, Panther and Dolphin G Chris Reed replaces Nelson. Running back Jonathan Taylor is a workhorse and has been getting his share of carries but it hasn’t been enough, the Colts are scoring less than 19 PPG (18.7) and allowing nearly 27 PPG (26.7). Good news for the Colts defense is that the Dolphins have scored less than the Colts have at 15 PPG, 30th in the NFL. Good news for the Colts offense is we’re allowing 27.3 PPG which is 23rd in the NFL.

So here’s the deal. I do feel like we have a good amount of talent on our roster, and I doubt I’m alone in that evaluation. We need to make the most of that talent. We need to use the players that can make things happen, and use them more. Get the ball into Waddles hands, and NOT 3 yards into their own endzone! FTR, I do realize Waddle has 26 targets in 3 games which is great, and he has 23 catches on those targets which tells me he’s getting a ton of short passes. He’s averaging 7.6 YPR. Mike Gesicki is averaging 9.8 YPR, he’s also getting a lot of short stuff. We have to find a way to give the QB time to throw downfield if the offense is going to be what we need it to be. We’ll see if the line continues with Jackson – Davis – Deiter – Hunt – Eichenberg. It seems they don’t trust Kindley as he’s been the guy getting the least time. Davis is less of a liability at G than he is at T. I think Jackson will be better, his confidence seems to be hurting as well as his play is. Find the best 5, if this is it, and let them play together and hopefully we get the results we’re looking for.

We still have one of the best secondaries in the NFL and Xavien Howard and Byron Jones may be the best CB tandem in the league. We have talent at safety too with veteran Eric Rowe and two young emerging talents in rookie Jevon Holland and 2nd year safety Brandon Jones. The problem? Besides Christian Wilkins (2 sacks), no one else from our front 7 has a sack. You read that right, not ONE! and Ogbah each have a half sack each and rookie Jaelan Phillips and LB Jerome Baker have been shut out. Baker still leads the team in tackles and has 3 FF’s, but he hasn’t been involved in rushing the passer as much yet. The aforementioned emerging safety Brandon Jones has 2 sacks. It’s alarming though that our front 7 has been so shut down getting to the QB. That needs to improve if we’re going to be a competitive team with playoff aspirations. Let’s hope our Co-OC’s and Josh Boyer along with Brian Flores have a better game plan against the visiting Colts this Sunday. We need a win, and we need to move this talent forward, and I do believe there is a lot of wasted talent thus far.

GO DOLPHINS!!!

MikeE., Good points. We need to get more negative plays on defense meaning sacks. Need to stop their running game first.

Colts do have a decent D but are a little banged up there also.

I could see this as another low scoring squeaker like the Pats game.

      Exactly what we need….sigh

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

That sucks, but Mancz is a very capable player. Won’t be surprised to see some quick, short term improvement on the O-line

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Deiter may be lucky, if IR is the only place he goes

      So WTF is Flores doing?

He signs, can’t even remember his name, the Ravens C, couldn’t sign one of the 2 from the cheats, cuts this C

He signs McKinney to be our run stopper, but cuts him, because McKinney didn’t want to be a Fin

2 biggest issues on the team are stopping the run and the OLs communication problems

Is he that much of a jackass, that he cut off his nose to spite his face?

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Not sure either on Kindley. I have a feeling if he were on another team he would be starting and mauling the funk out of people. I have to put this on coaching. Put him on a team that runs the ball more and he would be a beast like he was at UGA. When defenses have to defend the run, it makes pass pro easier. See Titans.

A majority of people who voted for former President Donald Trump are in favor of breaking up the country, a new poll from the University of Virginia Center for Politics has found. UVA surveyed 2,012 voters – half of whom voted for Trump.

The results show a country at ideological war with itself: More than half of the surveyed Trump voters – approximately 52% – said the “situation is such that I would favor Red states seceding from the union to form their own separate country.” Approximately 41% of Biden-voting respondents answered similarly.

Well, this shows that whatever David said about Trump voters, is well, uh, a bunch of shit actually. Social media has given people a voice they didn’t used to have, and I think the big thing is folks like to hear themselves talk. 31. Wyoming, here is the definition of secession, or seceding

Secession is the withdrawal of a group from a larger entity, especially a political entity, but also from any organization, union or military alliance. … A secession attempt might be violent or peaceful, but the goal is the creation of a new state or entity independent from the group or territory it seceded from.

  32. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

And how exactly do you train to deal with a hysterical bitch from start to finish like that
    ___
Well, for one, physically attack the person or break their windows in. They started out yelling back at her instead of calmly talking and trying to connect then immediately went to physical force, knowing the whole time a baby was in the back, scared and crying. I’m not defending the lady’s actions at all, but they are in positions of authority and held to a higher standard. If my kid is having a meltdown and I started yelling at them in their current state 1) they aren’t going to listen to me and 2) it’s only going to make things worse. I certainly can’t physically harm my child if yelling doesn’t work.
Cops are supposed to be trained in de-escalation techniques. These guys clearly weren’t or they threw the training out the window (after they bashed it in). She was in the wrong, but they were 10x worse.

here is the danger in seceding though
The secession of South Carolina was followed by the secession of six more states—Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas–and the threat of secession by four more—Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina. These eleven states eventually formed the Confederate States of America.

the CSA was defeated by the USA military in the civil war.

2,012 voters is what should be kept in mind in this discussion on seceding. It’s percentages based off of that number, which is extremely small, and who knows where they took the people from. They could have targeted an area to skew the data or just randomly been in an area where this number was so high. Reminds me of those gold rush shows where they take findings from a pan sample of an area and extrapolate it to the whole mine, only to find out later the site is mostly empty. it talks of giant aliens that came to earth, and taught us astronomy, the metals of the earth, medicine, built the pyramids, and even mated with earth women, that got wiped out in the flood

these giants were almost 10 feet tall like goliath, and giant skulls of ancient humans are found from time to time

Now it’s a regular thing where people say stuff like “well you know what kind of people are in those red or blue states”, when we all know not all people in any state think alike.

  56. MF, what does the book of revelations spell out as our end game?

John, the cousin of Jesus, was taken into the future to see it firsthand, and revealed it to us in the scripture..

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

You tell me! Many theologians believe differently on this given subject, the Book of Revelation.

      • they need to reread it, and read Enoch too

one thing revealed as the end game, is one fourth of the worlds population will die off from wars, disease, and famine

the current mismanagement of the worlds population doesnt end well, but for the called, the ones that believe, have an enternal end game that is quite different

a chance to sit at the right hand of God, and have the angels rejoice at our presence

we will have a new name, an enternal body, with no pain, and no tears

some may have a hard time believing this, or lacking faith, and some have faith

i have what i call confirmed faith, meaning i have crossed over before , and saw my family ancestors in their new bodies, my father, mother, sister, etc

  58. there is also a book called The language of God by Francis Collins, head of the NIH
He was a former atheist, that was responsible for coding the entire human DNA code!

he claims that the science of evolution, lead him to Christianity, and claims that Christianity and Evolution are BOTH correct, and not in conflict with one another

very interesting read, the guy is one of the smartest guys on the planet, and his road to truths and understanding is incredible

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Evolution and any religion should not be in conflict with each other. It’s a fact that evolution happens everyday.

Another interesting thing to think about it is, many scientists believe that not all life on earth originated here. DNA from outer space came here from asteroids, meteors etc. Some of that life thrived and some did not. The octopus is considered to be one of those species. They can alter their RNA and they have more genes than humans.

I know a few people that supposedly want secession from both sides. Mostly, too many people spend time on the internet and don’t go out and discover that all people are fairly similar All communication is easily blocked as are differing views which causes echo chambers. It really seems like there are a lot of narcissists created by Youtube, TikTok, and Instagram. We’ve had it too good, like Kong says, and have become entitled and lazy. It’s a bad environment for civility information sharing and overall good discourse.

I think the primary political problem is a federal government gone wild, a Congress that never does it’s job, and states becoming too dependent on federal money. It could be fixed with a smaller federal government which I am highly in favor of. There is too much Monopoly money floating around today that 530 people have too much control over. There are too many giant federal bureaucracies that too many depend on. Your local area should be able to provide the community you want to live in without too much federal interference. If you don’t like certain things, you should have a place you can do as you please(as long as it’s legal and not physically harmful).

To end my soapbox, Stanger, this is a really good article somewhat disputing your thoughts on red states/blue states and gives a somewhat more accurate picture than your single sentence could provide. I thought it was good reading but it is obviously slanted but the data seems to be accurate. https://thefederalist.com/2017/11/17/red-states-tax-takers-blue-states-tax-makers/ . I really enjoy this statement, “It matters only in so far as the politicians and pundits who cite these statistics do so in an effort to divide us. The idea of a Blue America and a Red America is a dangerous one, but it is a tempting weapon to yield for a politician who wants to rally his base. ” It’s all about getting re-elected guys. Nothing more or less for politicians.

Some don’t and go extinct.

How can humans decide how life came to be when they have only been around 0.01% of earth’s existence? Though we have a unique intelligence in the animal kingdom, we’re pretty new to planet earth in the big scheme of things.

Then we got into Uranium dating (what with radioactive half-life)… but if something wasn’t hit with the radiation, who knows, right?
