Game 5 – Dolphins @ Buccaneers

The Dolphins start the first quarter of the season (not technically a quarter due to the now 17 game season) at 1-3. If not for a late Xavien Howard forced fumble and recovery against the New England Patriots we’d be 0-4. Every play counts, and that win counts, but I feel like I’m in some version of this team that we’ve all seen before. The offense can’t get it done, the defense is on the field all day but we defend them for probably being better than they really are. Yes, we’re back “there” again, pick a year in the last 20 some odd years and this team could fit right in. The offense is bad, and Jacoby Brissett just can’t move the ball down the field. Chad Henne took more shots downfield during the first 3 quarters than Brissett does. It’s so strange to me that we have all these players who can do damage downfield like DeVante Parker and Mike Gesicki and Jaylen Waddle and we ignore their ability until some point in the 4th quarter when the game is out of reach. I don’t understand what our game plan is on offense and I truly don’t get the offensive concept of our offense, as in what our identity is. We’re not a power running team, not a finesse offense, I guess the closest thing to what we are is a dink and dunk offense. Why?

The O-line, the much maligned O-line of 2021. Austin Jackson has had a tough year, and I’m not calling out anyone here, not my intention, but I see some saying move him to guard. Why? If he’s playing so poorly at his natural position, will he better inside at a less familiar position? I say bench him until he shows something in practice or just let him take his lumps at LT. I don’t want to take a guy who’s playing better at G off the field to experiment with Austin Jackson at G now. Maybe we lose a couple of more games and fall to 1-6 and I’ll feel it would be OK then, but we still have a chance to make it this season and we should have the players playing best on the field.

The Dolphins “travel” to Tampa Bay to face Tom Brady’s 3-1 Buccaneers. A few key guys will likely be out such as TE Rob Gronkowski (ribs), starting CB Carlton Davis just went on IR, S Antoine Winfield is in concussion protocol and has not practiced this week. One guy who is back and that will make Tom Brady smile is WR Antonio Brown. He’s healthy and ready to go. The Bucs secondary looks to be hobbled, but the Bucs are know best for their front 7 which is mostly intact, sans for DE Jason Pierre-Paul (shoulder-hand). Richard Sherman came off the street and played CB last and he will likely start again this week with Davis on IR. Our O-line is going to have a tough matchup with D-linemen Ndamukong Suh, Vita Vea and William Gholston, along with LB’s Shaq Barrett, Lavonte David, Devin White and most likely Anthony Nelson if JPP can’t go. Hopefully Jeannie doesn’t watch the games.

I’m going to be honest here. I don’t care if Malcolm Brown is the better blocker, put 3 TE’s in the game and let’s run the ball with Gaskin. Brown brings nothing to the offense. He never has. He’s a bit player. Not that Myles Gaskin is a world-beater but he has shown he can make things happen out there, and is a much bigger threat as a receiver as well. Gaskin is averaging 5 yards a pop while Brown is 3.5 yards and a cloud of dust and PUNT. We started out throwing to Jaylen Waddle and were moving the ball and then inexplicably we never saw Waddle used again. Parker and Gesicki were ignored all game until it was over. Can we please try to use our weapons all game long, our BEST weapons??? It’s absurd to me that when we finally decide to move the ball Mike Gesicki is one of the guys that gets it done. Kills me that we squander him here, and please stop talking about his blocking. It’s IRRELEVANT!!! Throw him the damn ball 15 times a game and let the other 2 TE’s block.

On paper, we don’t really stand a chance against the SB Champs. The game won’t be played on paper and a win this Sunday would surely put us back on the map, especially since our starting QB Tua Tagovailoa is due back week 6 for our London matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. We desperately need a win this week and it’s time to get this team in gear. Like some have said on here, let it fly, stop being so cautious, it’s clearly not working. Play like every quarter is the 4th quarter on offense. Get the ball into the hands of your best offensive players, Parker, Gesicki, Waddle and Gaskin. Be competitive, be aggressive, and maybe upset the champs in their house and sink that damn pirate ship!

GO DOLPHINS!!!

Anyone predicting the Dolphins to win this one?

I guess i will joint the club

    Dolphins 24 Bucs 20

  5. Mike E. says:

I have no prediction other than if they play the way they have the last few weeks I will be turning that shit off and finding something that brings me happiness instead of languishing my Sunday day off away!

  6. Krishna says:

Thanks again, Mike E. I agree again! Let it rip…nothing to lose except another game.
    Got that down!

Not predicting but hopeful. Hoping Flores and players can make Brady uncomfortable. A few clean assaults on him would work!

If Davis plays maybe we can….

  7. sb7mvp says:

I say call the wildcat and trick plays every play. Hook and lateral, statue of liberty, fumblerooski, flea flicker, fake spike, you name it. Confuse the mess out of them and then put in Reid Sinnett for the rest of the game. Nothing that they practiced for or had gamefilm of.

  8. twicethethe says:

Nice write Mie E. and thanks for letting me know.

Let’s see of the OC Hydra can game plan and call plays that actually create mismatches and the players can execute and take advantage of those mismatches. That starts with the QC (whoever) being able to detect the mismatch. That play last week in the red zone where Gaskin was motioned out split wide and ended up one on one all alone on that side of the field with the LB (granted Darius Leonard but still) should have resulted in Gaskin doing some kind of shake and go route and Brissett lobbing it out there. Probably an easy TD. Pure speculation – but pretty well reasoned speculation I think.

    • twicethethe says:

Instead Brissett doesn’t even look that way. Crazy! Still bugging me apparently lol

      • Mike E. says:

For a veteran QB, he doesn’t look like his field awareness is there at all.

      • twicethethe says:

Agreed – he should be reading the D better and finding the mismatches or audibling into a favorable mismatch. I think that’s what separates the good/great QBs from the meh/not good ones. Especially with the O-line in its current state – going through progressions is just going to take too long.

      • twicethethe says:

Of course, that’s if the Offensive Coordinator Hydra even allows the QB to audible…. “You will run the play you are given!”

  9. CavalierKong says:

I say we line up power I formation, and run it up the gut every play. They start the game dominating us, and the crowd despises us and cheers our inevitable demise. The Bucs take a huge lead into the 2nd half.

Then, nearing the end of the 3rd, when all seems lost and the Bucs lead seems insurmountable, we convert a 3rd down…then another.

A lone Tampa fan stands up and his single voice rings out in a cheer for the underdog Dolphins, applauding our sheer determination and never say die attitude.

Led by this single voice, the tide starts to change and we slowly start to win over the Tampa crowd as we inch back into the game. Then, late in the 4th, as we’ve made an incredible comeback and are now down by just a single score, buoyed by the overwhelming voice of the crowd now unquestionably on our side, it all comes down to one play…

  10. steveccnv says:

We’d be better off pulling plays out of a hat, than what our play caller is calling

  11. Mike E. says:

Twice – Which lens do you think your going to go with?

    • twicethethe says:

Probably the Varilux – I’m kind of all over the place distance tasks wise, so probably want to stick with something in the middle as far as that goes. But now you got me thinking and I’m mentally measuring everything I’m doing throughout the day to see if there a distance I tend to require more than another. If so, may go with one of the others.

      • Mike E. says:

It should be fine. Just make sure you go to a good Optician, so they measure you properly. That’s as important as choosing the right lens!

Coach compared coming off an injury (Raekwon Davis) to his son picking up his math after summer break — Coach, when asked if he’s solving all the math, follows up by saying new math is killing him. The room quite enjoyed that back-and-forth.

Greg Mancz will also practice today and that’s “trending in the right direction as well,” Coach says with regards to him playing Sunday.

I say we let the defense play as the offense and the offense play on the defense.

  14. bailbondmike says:

What is wrong with X? I understand Jones is injured but heard nothing about X and now coach is “hopeful” he will play???

  15. stangerx says:

“The Dolphins “travel” to Tampa Bay to face Tom Brady’s 3-1 Buccaneers” — don’t mock the miles cause the state is big. It’s like going from NYC to DC.

But another great write Mike E. Wouldn’t be looking for a V, but then if came up would be monumental.

    • Mike E. says:

I have no idea how they get there, do they fly or take a bus? It can’t be more than an hour if they can fly there

      • stangerx says:

I think they fly. Might be cool with the 4 hour drive but wouldn’t want to risk a traffic foul up cause of an accident, etc.

  16. Mike E. says:

Stanger – Do I need a general admission ORANGE pass or can it be for a specific spot?

    • stangerx says:

Only kind is just general Orange. They are pricey now though cause of the new parking configuration. Did you catch my exhortation on that? Prices zoomed after everyone experienced the home opener and learned only passes now both inside and across the street. Then was $98 Orange and $78 yellow (for across the street).

      • Mike E. says:

I haven’t been on nearly as much, so I guessed I missed that. I’m looking at passes now and yeah, the prices are over $100. Some designate a specific row, so not sure what that’s all about, some say general admission

      • stangerx says:

I’m not sure what specific row is about either, might be something new. I was sure shocked about the new passes only around the stadium and satellite parking areas a mile from the stadium for the rest.

Can tell you have 3 general admission orange for Chef Wa, my car and Damian. So that’s how the tailgate will roll.

  17. Mike E. says:

Stanger – Just got one on Stub Hub. It was $108 plus service fees. All part of vacation costs, nothing I can do about it. I need to bring my own car because we need to jet the eff out of there quickly, either before the game ends if it’s ugly or as soon as at it ends. I will have to discuss next year’s trip with my boss, he wouldn’t allow a Monday to Monday trip because it would be in two different work weeks. I can’t play that next year, it’s too rush rush for me.

    • son of a son of a shula says:

I reserved a spot in lot 22 that is FREE

    • CavalierKong says:

Mike, next year you walk right to that office — that’s what you do — and you reach across that desk and grab him by his fat head and say “Listen, man. I’m not going to jail for YOU, or for anybody!”

    • son of a son of a shula says:

You can ride with us but I believe we’ll have the shuttle again as well (Toba’s coming)

    • stangerx says:

It’s awesome you’ll be able to park at least near the tailgate. Gates open at ten and we are there then or shortly after. Blocking spots off not cool.

Sorry you had to pay so much for your pass, but seems way it will go in the future. Ross brought us Tennis and Formula One and Dolphins’ parking paid the price for it.

  18. Mike E. says:

    LOL @ Kong!

Not too worried about the cost, it’s unavoidable. I expect to get to the tailgate pretty early too, especially since we’re running out quick after or during the game.

    • son of a son of a shula says:

I hope it goes to overtime and you’re compelled to stay and have to tell your boss to get fucked lol

      • Mike E. says:

LMAO! The only one fucked would be me. If I miss my flight I’d probably have to pay a bunch to change my flight. Fuck it though, it’s only money.

  19. son of a son of a shula says:

For anyone else planning to drive to the game –
There is NO game day purchasing for parking including the free lots you must have a pass ahead of time.

  20. stangerx says:

Son — Sounds like you are at the closest one, but still (from the website): “Complimentary parking lots are located 0.7 – 1.3 miles outside of Hard Rock Stadium grounds.”

And right now worried about your tent. 🙂

    • son of a son of a shula says:

We (my group) has to go in two cars some also have to leave after the game. Kim and I could really get on the shuttle, have to see how it plays out. I don’t mind a walk and I’ll figure out the tent even though my own got destroyed recently my daughter got a new one I’ll bring but it’s freaking red a Falcons color. Ugh.
You still ok with tickets or should I secure a couple more?

      • Mike E. says:

Hey Son, is Bob coming? I like that dude

      • son of a son of a shula says:

        Yes plus Jim and Ed.
A picture came up recently as a memory on FB that was from ‘13 with Ed and Jim and Kim and I that was the last time Ed went.

      • Mike E. says:

Cool, good group. I remember the other guys too, was that the Redskins Fest, (Fest #1) when we met Omar or Fest #2?

      • stangerx says:

So sounds like what is for sure is you need one car and if Toba does the bus (still uncertain) that’s an option. And it would work well for that Falcons tent. 🙂

Ticket situation is down to whether two of your group sit in the Phelon Lux box. He offered to you but don’t know if that has been confirmed. If goes that way then have 2 tix for the Tobas. If not time to hit stubhub, or at least wait to see if someone else drops out (which does happen).

  21. son of a son of a shula says:

Mike, you tell that boss of yours that people have been taking vacations in multiple weeks for a hundred years he should be able to figure it out. I can send him a calendar and a calculator if he needs it. Wtf.

    • Mike E. says:

I let it go this year because I just got the job, although I worked for him a long time ago for about 10 years. I’ll make it happen for next year, I don’t think it will be a problem.

  22. herdfan says:

The company I work for has just adopted a mandatory vaccination policy. We didn’t really have a choice, we’re a government contractor and we have over 100 employees. I’m fully vaccinated anyway but it still pissed me off.

Don’t be telling me what to do! 😂

  23. ocalarob says:

I don’t know Mike, with Covid protocols you should at least allow two days to get back home. they are cancelling flights all the time due to covid. you could always rent a car.
how fun is watching a game when you may get fired?
not trying to worry you though

    • Mike E. says:

LOLOLOL – Good thing you’re not trying to worry me. If they cancel flights I’m in the clear, that wouldn’t be my fault and my boss would be cool with it, wouldn’t really have a choice. 🙂

    • CavalierKong says:

My daughter had multiple flights cancelled over the summer for a roundtrip to the east coast and back. She was on a tight schedule and it screwed up all her plans. The worst part was there was really no way to plan for it or be prepared, other than knowing you might have to take another flight on another day.

      • CavalierKong says:

For shorter flights, I imagine even if they cancel, you can get a same day replacement flight.

  24. son of a son of a shula says:

Mike, Bob retired about a year ago sold his house up here close to me and they moved to Fort Myers, he might be living in the same community as Naples. Now he works part time in golf pro shop at some fancy club down in Bonita Springs. Living the dream

  25. son of a son of a shula says:

    Thanks on the ticket update
    Oh Phelon lol

    • son of a son of a shula says:

Also, Stanger take care of the Toba’s no matter what. I will get other tickets if need be

      • stangerx says:

Just tell me what’s up with Phelon. Toba and I both know how to go on stubhub.

      • son of a son of a shula says:

I don’t want you guys to have to worry about it you’ve done enough and we appreciate it and the Toba’s are part of the group you’ve trying to take care of. I’m thankful for you and also that they can make it.

    • stangerx says:

Point was up to you guys to know how to proceed. 🙂

Funny thing this year was I reserved less tix. Normally go like 27, 28 and have ones left over to sell to the guys on the street. Cause of Covid got 24. Then got the tix guy to give me 4 more. So 28 and now still need more. Guess nothing like a Fest.

  26. son of a son of a shula says:

Anyway Mike, Ed was there for the first Fest, he and I did a one day trip that time we started getting a hotel the next year and ever since. I think that was 2011 then 12 (Jim and me) was Ramada then in 13 we stayed at a Blue-Green on South Beach. Kim’s first fest and Jim and Ed both were there. That Blue – Green is right next door to the building that collapsed earlier this year.

  27. Mike E. says:

Sonny – That means this is the 10th Anniversary of the Fest!!

  28. son of a son of a shula says:

I still believe Piggy will ultimately be there. 🙏🐽🐬

    • Mike E. says:

That would be nice if he can make it. Glad Rock will be there, at least at D&B, not sure about the game, forgot.

      • stangerx says:

Is Rock coming to D&B’s? Awesome if he does but thought he was reconsidering what to do for the B-Day weekend. Coming to the game is not difficult if that’s the choice.

  29. son of a son of a shula says:

It’s amazing, every year DVP is basically questionable the whole fucking season. I’d say this has to be his last contract here, if he even makes it through it. Always hampered by injuries. He does try to fight through but it’s enough already

  33. Mike E. says:

Stanger – Shoot, I have no idea about Rock. I thought he said the hunting trip was off, but you might be right about doing something else for his bro’s birthday. I just haven’t been here a lot so I’m probably missing a lot of stuff.

    • stangerx says:

Center Michael Deiter’s injury created a hole that Greg Mancz recently filled. However, Mancz’s also popped up on the injury report this week with a neck injury.

Reiter was also asked if he’d like a crack at being in Miami for a while, knowing that Deiter will be back eventually.

“Absolutely,” Reiter said. “I think you could be on any of the 31 other teams, and you would want to have that mentality as a player in the league… With the tenure I have, the run in Kansas City, nothing’s guaranteed. It’s a humbling game still. Stay as long as you can. Work as hard as you can.”

Reiter played nearly 90% of the snaps for the Chiefs the last two seasons and helped them on their runs to two Super Bowl appearances. In his last three seasons, he was never ranked below seventh for all centers in pass-protection, something Miami desperately needs, by PFF.

  47. bailbondmike says:

I have 2 QB’s on my watch list for a late round pick to develop behind Sinnett and both from small schools.

One choice is Grayson McCall of #15 ranked Coastal Carolina. He has good size 6’3 210 and is mobile. Good foot work and pocket presence (only sacked 4 times in 6 games). He does not have a cannon arm and that will be his only “?”. Dude is real accurate and has completed 79.8% of his passes for 1,478 yards with 14 TD’s and 1 INT through 6 games.

Reminds me of Eli Manning. He is only a redshirt sophomore so he may stay another year but the QB class for the 2022 draft doesn’t seem to be all that great right now.

  48. bailbondmike says:

Watching Coastal Carolina, I had to add a TE to my watch list since we don’t know what will happen with Gesicki and no other TE on the roster seems to be a receiving threat.

TE Isaiah Likely is a 6’4 245 pound senior. He seems to have some speed and is a good blocker in their RPO/Option offense. He has 27 rec for 513 yards for a 19yard average (averaged 20 yards a catch in 2020) and 8 TD’s through 6 games.

Will be interested to see what he runs in the 40 cause he does have a lot of long TD’s. He had 99 yard and 64 yard TD’s his last game. The 99 yarder was a busted coverage on a seam route but the DB could not run him down on the 75 yard run after the catch.

  49. bailbondmike says:

A RB to keep an eye on for the draft is Cincinnati Junior Jerome Ford. He transferred to Cincy from Alabama. He is 5’11 220 pounds and ran a 4.41 40 at Alabama before transferring. He has 520 yards rushing with 6.3 average and 8 TD’s so far this season.

MSU RB Kenneth Walker is still my top RB for next draft. Another big game for him. He has 24 carries for 197 yards including a 94 yard TD run so far today. Should stay on top as the NCAA rushing leader. His draft stock is going way up though.

Holy crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a freaking game!

  64. Krishna says:

Unfucking, believable!!!! Reminds me several years ago, watching Manziel and the Aggies beating Alabama at the Sat fest at D&B. Mrs. K and I loved it.

  65. Krishna says:

One load in dryer and a throw in the wash….checkbook reconciled…chores ahead, then game time, bitches!

Great thing about the schedule today. I can watch the Dolphins at home (probably best anyway), go to Nickel City after for their buffalo wings, tots, and beer before the Bills’ crowd get’s there for the night game at 7 CST.

    Yay!!!!!!

  66. bailbondmike says:

Krishna, what a great game last night! The way Texas A&M defense was swarming was a thing of beauty. Even after being on the field most of the second half they hung in there and got stops holding Bama to FG’s. When Bama scored 21 unanswered to go up 38-31 with 5 min left, I thought A&M was done and defense gassed. They bucked up that last 5 min to pull it out 41-38.

    Awesome!

The way they played Bama surprises me the have 2 losses, let alone any this season.

I have solved the IPhone conundrum. If any of you are having a similar issue with logging in on your iPhone with putting in your password and then immediately having to do it again and never being able to post in the typing box.

If you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and “bounce” the screen off the bottom, a little tiny popup appears in the lower right corner that’s says fallow …

Hit the… (not the follow) and options will pop up select the sign in option from this location and it works.

    Hallelujah

  70. Rockphin says:

    Oh yeah forgot.

    IT’S LAUNDRY DAY BITCHES!!
    GO WASHABLES!!

  71. maybe the game will be more enjoyable if

    we root for the bucs
bring in hookers and wine coolers
call the nearest escort service with 5 star ratings
make it a drinking game, and have a shot every time Brissett does something stupid
make it a stripping game, and go to a strip club every time the bucs score
have a bbq, and just jump into the hot coals face first
get a flores punching bag, and dress him up like a woman

  72. maybe Dog the convicted murderer and unlicensed Bounty hunter will show up at the game

, , Laundrie could be hiding out under that pirate ship

maybe the Dolphins should hire the squid games guards, and shoot anyone that jumps offsides on punts, a dystopic version of green light red light

maybe senile trump will show up, and criticize Biden on his pakistan withdrawal, yea, trump said pakistan yesterday, lol

Young Stanger says “BREVARD COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS TRYING TO RETURN LOST ITEMS.”
Maybe they could return to the Dolphins an owner who hires the right people so that we could AGAIN win playoff games!! But, right now, I’d settle for a new General Manager who does NOT waste a mountain of high draft choices as Mr. Grier has been doing. WHY, oh WHY, has Ross kept Grier around for about a decade serving in various capacities?? I guess it’s the classic case of the Peter Principle which states “People tend to rise to an area of incompetence and tend to stagnate at that position.” I can’t, for the life of me, remember another GM who has so little to show for so many early round draft picks. And, as for his Free Agent selections, it’s basically more of the SAME!!
    ——————-
Columnist Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times has his NFL picks in today’s Tampa Bay Times sports section. For the Dolphins at Bucs game he says the Bucs “…are back home against an opponent (Miami) that can’t stop the run and doesn’t have an offense that can keep pace.” Flattery will get you nowhere, Mr. Farmer!! He picks Tampa Bay to win 31-20, thus covering a 10-point spread! However, truth be told, Mr. Farmer is 26-37-1 (.429) against the spread for this entire season. Put another way, the probability is, based on this performance, that there’s a.571 probability that Farmer IS WRONG!!!
    —————–
I WON’T make a pick in this game. Right now, Mrs. OD and I are more likely to see the current James Bond movie rather than stay home to watch this game. But I DO HOPE the Fins win this contest.

Well It looks like the rays of sunshine woke up late this morning!!!

    • olddolphan says:

Well, Wyoming, the warm rays of sunshine have long since been replaced by a cruel, cold, reality. – – – The reality that the current owner of the Miami Dolphins doesn’t have a clue about hiring the right people to run his NFL franchise.
      ———-
As you are watching today’s game, remember this. Back several years ago when head coaches were coming and going, Steve Ross did have one moment of true inspiration. He hired Todd Bowles to be his interim head coach for the last 3 games of the season. Bowles immediately turned the Dolphins around as they won their first TWO games with him as head coach. His third (and last) game was the season ending game at New England. The Fins jumped out to a double digit lead before losing the game late in the 4th quarter thanks, in part, to one of those “Mystery Penalty Flags” that appeared at a crucial moment in Foxboro. None the less, Bowles produced a 2-1 end to the season that SHOULD have been 3-0. To this day, Bowles remains THE ONLY HEAD COACH DURING ROSS’S OWNERSHIP THAT PRODUCED A WINNING RECORD FOR HIS MIAMI CAREER!! – – Bowles eventually would go on to become the Defensive Coordinator for the Buccaneers, winning the Super Bowl with Tampa Bay in 2021.

NOW comes the big question. WHY DIDN’T ROSS KEEP the successful Todd Bowles as head coach?? ANSWER: Ross had his eyes on another candidate and told Bowles NOT TO APPLY TO BECOME PERMANENT HEAD COACH!!!

That’ll teach Bowles to have a winning record under Ross, won’t it?

Parker and Fuller not playing. Both are good but not exactly fighting off the fragile label.

    • Mike E. says:

Looks like it’s probably a good day to have to play Gesicki. Then again, we don’t know how to use him, so there’s that . . .

      • stangerx says:

Already was a good day to play Gesicki. What it became was a great day to show off how versatile Waddle is. Have Wilson at another wideout and move them around.

  82. Mike E. says:

I’m taking another chance in FF and going with Waddle. This way the Dolphins can let me down 2 different ways in one day. lol
