    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I can, I’m going to stop bashing tua and let the season play out, but we have very crappy play from the QB position IMO and i believe that’s the whole reason behind our lack of success in all depts.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

You can’t have it both ways. Either he gets credit for everything or you can’t blame him for everything, you have to pick one way to go.

  5. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Rob – Tell you what . . . Fitz was 4-3 with this team last season, and it’s pretty obvious last year’s team was much better than this year’s. Tua was 6-3 last year, same team. Your assumption just doesn’t add up.

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

tua wasn’t the reason for winning those games, it was our d and the turnover ratio, we were on a roll. that soon diminished with the raiders denver then buffalo when we had to rely on tua, fitz bailed us out of the raiders game.
it’s quite obvious tua’s problems, just look at his stats, he barely breaks 200 yards against a quality team, 90 percent of his games have sub par yardage. the reason is simple, lack of arm strength, opposing ds crunch the field, it affects the entire team.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

You can’t have it both ways. Either he gets credit for everything or you can’t blame him for everything, you have to pick one way to go. Accidentally posted this as a reply to the wrong comment above.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

you want credit? i give him credit for beating the cardinals last year, his best game as a pro. i want to see more of that, the cards just plated the wrong d on him, they spread out and gave him deep respect, that is no longer happening, teams now know how to play him and its working for them.

He is an amateur playing and pretending to be a professional owner

  9. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

on offense we play the width of the field but not the depth, we are not making opposing ds cover the entire field, all tua does is throw short passes, i watched a video and every rec is within 10 yards of the los looking to make a catch, we don’t stretch the field and that is the issue imo.

Bad News from the USATODAY power rankings:

“30. Dolphins (29): They’ve got the worst defense in the league and have run the ball fewer than anyone else. So why do we keep asking Brian Flores about QB Tua Tagovailoa? Maybe it’s time to broker a trade for Khalil Mack … or at least Larry Csonka.”

    Good news:

“31. Texans (32): There might finally be blessed clarity on Houston’s quarterback conundrum this week … meaning the potential return of Tyrod Taylor, of course.”

  11. Ross is incredibly immoral and amateurish, SMH
but at least he didnt compound his mistakes by taking watson

thanks for giving Tua reassurance by waiting til the final hour ross, hopefully Ross final hour comes soon

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

DAVID; Just after Ross took control of this franchise he scheduled a meeting with Brian Bilick, who, previously, had coached the Ravens. Bilick thought he had a real shot at getting the Dolphins’ HC job. But, according to Bilick, the “interview” turned into a big Ross rant about the Ravens OT loss to Miami the prior season (which turned out to be Miami’s only win in a 1-15 season. “I had to pay Huizenga about one million dollars more for the franchise because YOU lost to Miami.” The former Ravens’ head coach was incredulous! Ross just wanted to tear into Bilick for several minutes. NO job offer was ever made because Ross had already decided on someone else for the job (Sparano??)–
The interviewer asked Bilick “Is it true you called Ross an “ASSHOLE” as you walked out the door?”

Bilick responded “No comment. It was personal.” But I’ll bet you the former Ravens coach won’t be attending Ross’s funeral.

I should have known that a leopard never changes its spots, in reference to Steve Ross. I seriously tried to give him a fair shake after bashing him for years alongside Old Dolfan and Gigi. Should have known better, SMH.

How is Tua to respond to this, knowing that our idiot owner tried to get Deshaun Watson to replace him… ya know, the guy with all of these sexual allegations against him? The NFL is going to tar and feather him, even IF he escapes justice in court (he won’t).

How funkin’ STUPID could Steve Ross be to DO this to Tua, our team, and our fans?

The clown owner needs to sell the damn team before he funks it up even more. This one really stings, especially now that Tua has bounced back very well after his broken ribs (which I guarantee still hurt him right now).

    😡

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I know I can’t spend time ranking on Ross and calling for him to sell the team because that’s an exercise in futility. I’m more annoyed with Grier and Flores and the product on the field.

I wouldn’t be against Tua having a sit down with all of them and saying hey if you’re not confident in me, maybe you can trade me to a team that wants me. He probably wont do that but I wouldn’t care if he did. He doesn’t deserve this nonsense he’s been put through basically since he’s been here.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Right on, man! I agree, but what happens when we draft a new shiny toy under the Steve Ross circus, and he does the EXACT same thing?

I realize we can’t force Ross to sell, but he’s the shit stain that just doesn’t wash out. Time to change the poopy pants.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We can’t control any of that. I don’t like seeing good people treated like shit though.

  15. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I was not a fan of drafting Tua. He’s just not my sort of QB, but he’s our QB now. I think a fair evaluation of him has to start with the reality that he still hasn’t even started a full season. He is still a rookie in terms of games played. Tua is a grinder. He is not a natural athlete that just wows you with his arm or legs or athleticism in general. He’s not a Wilson. He’s more of a Brees. He can make plays for you because of his grittiness and his brain….not because of a canon for an arm or his legs. Bashing him for what he isn’t without evaluating what he is; isn’t really helpful at all.
    ***
Tua is fast enough. He’s got a strong enough arm. Neither are great but good enough. Expecting him to throw 60 yard bombs all day or run around like Wilson is simply pissing up the wrong tree. Where he seems to excel is his preparedness, he’s studious, he seems to read defenses well, and he plays hard. I’d still rather have a Tom Brady-type QB, but that doesn’t mean Tua can’t be successful in the NFL. He needs to be evaluated this season and then you make your decision and roll with it.

  16. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Personal theory: we didn’t dispatch any of our big-name players (such as Tua, DeVante, X, Byron, etc) because we’re going to need them in order to make the trade for Deshaun Watson next year.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Let’s face it, we’re going to be hearing about Deshaun to Miami for the foreseeable future.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m just glad it can simmer down this year.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I don’t know about that, Bro. I think we’re going to continue to hear about ‘when we get Deshaun’ after every single game we play for the rest of this season, win or lose. The media has been relentless thus far, and I don’t see it changing any time soon.

MF13; By this time next year Watson will have been hit with multiple indictments. His passport, if he has one, will be confiscated. Assuming he gets bail, he’ll be required to be available for whatever hearings or trials may be forthcoming. So his availablility for games outside the state of Texas may be “IFFY.”
      ——————
The shit storm of negative publicity likely will force the commissioner of the NFL to place Watson on some sort of restricted list. EVEN Steve Ross would be reluctant to deal for a guy accused of SO MANY felonies.

      Or would he??

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Well, Steve Ross has shown that he wants Watson BADLY. Knowing Ross, he’ll deal for Watson anyway, and wait on Watson to get off the commish’s exemption list over time.

  19. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

M13, but there will be no trade rumors anymore this year because it can’t happen. That’s why I said it will simmer down. I didn’t say people won’t still bring it up in some way, but the media can’t put out their trade rumors anymore this season.

  20. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Old Dolfan,

If you could see all of the Dolphins talk on Twitter… Steve Ross is all but being burned in effigy. Our fans are PISSED at Steve Ross, BIG TIME!!! And RIGHTFULLY so!!!

  21. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

WE DON’T DO Twitter or Facebook in this house. One bad incident for Mrs. OD was more than enough.

  22. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

As for the Henry Ruggs situation which is very sad because someone lost their life, the NFL offers every player a card with a phone# to call for a car on their dime. There is no excuse for any player to drive while intoxicated.

  23. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

OD: I saw that the Herd’s opponent this week is FAU. We’ve not had a great year, not awful but not great. New head coach this year. I’ll be watching on Saturday.

As for Ross, I am pissed. I’ve told myself all the Watson talk is just the damn media doing what they do. Now I have to admit they were right. Really disappointing.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Agreed. Why did Ross want to talk with Watson? He gave Grier full power of football operations and then decided he needed to get involved. So maybe he doesn’t have full confidence in Grier to handle it. This organization is a total mess right now.

  24. Ken's avatar Ken says:

The way I figure it if Grier and or Flores are fired there is no way we trade for Watson in the off season. Whoever we bring in to be the GM and or HC will want to remake the roster in their own way. They will not want to deplete all their draft capital to land a QB when there is going to be a major roster churn going on. If Grier and are Flores are still here it is still not likely to trade for Watson because Tua was their guy but they may feel pressured to win now and pull off what I think would be a disastrous trade

  25. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

HERD: I’m hoping Women’s rights activists have a demonstration this Sunday at the “TOILET BOWL” featuring the NFL’s two worst franchises right now, the Fins and the Texans. Look for Ross’s “security people” to try to run off these demonstrators. If they succeed, a couple of them should be signed-up for the Dolphins’ defense.
    ———————
I’m going to sit down and draft a short message to Ross’s ticket agent concerning WHY, after over 50 years as a dedicated Fins Fan, I am NOT renewing my season tickets. I am going to ask her TO RECORD THIS MESSAGE and send it to Ross’s representatives. Ross’s pursuit of a serial sex pervert is the LOWEST POINT IN THE HISTORY OF THE FRANCHISE. And, no, Rob, I’m NOT going to assume Watson is innocent until proven guilty. History will prove me right on this one!

    • herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

I have to say, I wasn’t convinced all these massage therapists didn’t know what they were signing up for. Even if they did, it’s still not a great look for the face of your franchise. Settling all these claims doesn’t clean up his image.

      • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

HERD; I USED to think Robert Krapp was the most offensive, disgusting, owner in the National Football League. But that little “handshake” he had with that oriental “massage therapist” pales by comparison to STEVE ROSS’S PURSUIT OF A SERIAL SEX PERVERT!!

I REPEAT. ROSS’S PURSUIT of Watson is the low point in the history of this franchise. Can you imagine ANY worthwhile coach, or player, wanting to get involved with this unmitigated disaster??

ROSS has destroyed this franchise. And it will be MANY, MANY, YEARS before the stink of this affair blows away.

  26. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Flores and Greir will definitely get a 4th season, no way Ross fires them.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You’re probably right. Maybe Grier and Flores needed some pressure because they really haven’t had any the first two seasons – they got 3 offseasons and 2+ seasons to turn the team over and coach them up. That has a bad look right now. But if the team doesn’t get it corrected next season it all starts over again.

  31. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Like Herd said, regardless of what the facts are and all of these reports and/or rumors, it’s not a good look for the Miami Dolphins franchise. Having a bad season, Tua being caught in the middle of it, Watson’s character etc. None of it is good.

  32. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’m really not sure I’ll be watching next year

  34. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

  35. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I don’t even know what to do at this point. I will ALWAYS be a Miami Dolphins fan, but I’m not willing to support this team — as constituted in the FO and ownership — any longer.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Steve Ross created a beaurocracy, and now we reap what he’s sowed. It became so bad, that he felt HE needed to personally get involved. Another case of too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

Man… it’s bad right now. SMMFH

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Well we can’t really control who the owner is – so time will tell

I think we are just dealing with the reality that ownership is bad

If I were a cowboys fan I would hate Jerry Jones, and I think some cowboys fans balance that

So maybe we can balance being a fan while recognizing the owner is a moron

Right now the on the field product is pretty painful to watch too

  36. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Inevitably, Tua will ask for a trade after this season… and I hope he states that it will NOT be to the Houston Texans. Don’t know if he has that power, and if not, I can see him asking for his outright release.

  37. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Does Steve Ross realize how little attendance he gets at home games this year? Cut in half for next year after his latest debacle.

  38. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Hey did you New Jersey boys vote today?

  39. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Now that this is becoming public it will make it very hard for us to make a play for Watson in the future. The optics are already horrible and would look even worse if we should pay off the plaintiffs and pull off a trade. We would be a pariah

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Even if that is so (I don’t doubt ya, man), we just alienated Tua!

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Maybe but players know this is a business and they can be traded. It’s up to be professional about it and deal no matter how distasteful it may seem. Tua seems like he has the makeup to deal with that but only time will tell

  40. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The ultimate goal of any sports franchise is to put out a competitive team that can compete for championships and entertain the fans. Once that fails, the media and fans start turning over every leaf and rock for scapegoats. If the team is playing well even with some nonsense around them, it will get overlooked. The Miami Dolphins are failing in all phases.

That ultimately starts with Stephen Ross. The NFL business is not the same as the big real estate business. It’s more personal and emotional. He’s allowing bad vibes to spread throughout the football team which is key to the entire goal. Fans are your investors.

  41. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Tua has no power where he gets traded – he doesn’t have that kind of contract, no rookie does.

Been in CR, Tamarindo specifically, since Sunday on the beach. Had to do a little work after my morning walk on the beach and thought I’d catch up on Dolphin blog news, too.

Now watching the rain and surfers and the tide has definitely come way in since this morning. These surfers are nuts. At low tide this morning you could see the lava beds on the beach and walk among them. Now, with higher tide the lava beds can’t be seen and these surfers our out there, falling and jumping off their boards. That’s fucking crazy.

Found Chili Guaro and Guaro Sours to be the local rum drink…..oh my. It’s about that time.

  63. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Krishna

I have a funny story from my time in Tamarindo that highlights my general social dysfunction

I don’t know if the dance/club bar is still across the street form the resort, but when I was there there was a restaurant that converted to a open air dance space in the evening

Really fun space. All the tourists went there. They played a lot of salsa dancing

And if you don’t mind me tooting my own snout, I will tell you I have some moves

And it was super easy to ask a lady to dance
Literally you just hold your hand out in front of them inviting them for a dance
So it was really a fun time

    But I messed it up

One day I went snorkling in the daytime. But I had a really bad sunburn on my bald head to the extent that when I went it the saltwater my head stung. So the guy who ran the snorkeling adventure who was bald as well had a solution and lent me this thing for my head – was great bc I enjoyed the snorkeling and say a bunch of fish and manta rays and all kind of stuff. So super cool guy

Anyway later that night I went to the salsa club
I was shaking my trotters and such

And it was crowded that night

All the sudden this big hairy man hand was presented to my face. I was stunned! I like women dude – why is this guy asking me to dance. I must have felt so awkward I didn’t take the time to evaluate my surroundings

So I was like “no man, I like women, I’m not interested”
And I was like really rude – not like angry and fighting pose or anything, but not my usual smiling jovial self

So the hand pushes through the crowd so I can see the person it is attached to

And the guy says “no…I don’t want to dance. How’s your head?”

And I was like “ohhhhhhhhh….it’s the snorkeling guy….shit….Eh…thanks for the thing for my head….eh…sorry…”

He stopped short of telling me to fuck off before he walked away. Apparently he was just trying to shake my hand, not dance with me.

    Oops

    I left early that night…

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

No – I think that’s spot on Bookman

No question he was raw when drafted
That was what all the experts said about him as a prospect

And I think it’s a safe assumption to assume the Dolphins coaching hasn’t done a great job of anticipating who is ready and who is not

And he’s probably confident in his ability and wasn’t really a disaster at USC, which is a completely different level

I’m holding out hope for Jackson and I’m glad he is confident in himself…bc we know the Dolphins organization isn’t going to put the work in with young prospects

      https://twitter.com/TheoShantonas/status/1456070263771123712

As for US politics, I have no interest whatsoever in watching people either side of the political fence throw Molotov cocktails at each other. It’s just dull for me – I don’t even follow UK politics at anything other than a superficial level.

All that being said, I still read almost everything on here, even belatedly sometimes a month or more old and sometimes I scroll faster than others – mostly because I respect and like a lot of the characters on here and all opinions expressed hold merit, though I’ll admit to gravitating to some more than others (no names no pack drill). I also think (imho) that some things in life that many held dear – respect, dignity and tolerance – are slowly being eroded from society as a whole and life is poorer for it. Fwiw, I have noticed a similar gravitation on this board, but nowhere as extreme as the world taken as a whole (mostly because there are more thinking people who constitute the residue of the original mob).

Finally, “fandom”. It is probably no coincidence that US followers of a team are referred to as fans, but in the UK, supporters. This is not a dig at any fan who becomes disaffected with anything they are a fan of, but this side of the pond, you follow a team for life, unwaveringly, through thick and thin. I paid £116 for a ticket @ Spurs stadium, London to see the fins (+ hotel for 3 nights and associated costs). Don’t regret it for a second. I’d go to all home games too if I had choice (and I appreciate lots of mob members have attended many or all of the 10 fests). I also bought 1000 shares in my local soccer club for £2000 – the shares have no value, but they were bought as part of a move to become a fan owned club (like the Packers) to protect the club from predators who would seek to take over the club for financial gain and ruin it. It’s an investment I’ll never be able to cash in but one which I feel priveleged to make to “support” my club. I know there is no parallel to US “franchises” worth billions and owned by the super-rich, but just a different view of being a “fan/supporter” (some would also say idiot!)

Our fins are an embarrassment again. It is mentally exhausting supporting a team like this, but I’ll still watch every game (I now have an internet feed which gets all US tv channels live – local feeds for regional CBS, FOX stations etc). I saw a real improvement in our fortunes last year and hoped that the trajectory would remain upwards. Sadly not …… we’ve tanked. I really don’t know why (other than it’s a systemic failure) and follow the civilised debate on here with interest. I do tend to agree with the current consensus that the culture comes from the top down and with Ross in charge (or not as the case may be) we are almost certainly doomed to fail unless he happens to catch lightning in a bottle and hit upon a front and back office team capable of running an NFL franchise effectively (which will be pot luck, not shrewd management). He hasn’t yet and the constant 3-5 year reboot is becoming exhausting. I wouldn’t touch Watson with a barge pole personally. I like Tua. He has exactly the right personal character traits this moribund franchise needs and if he can raise his game to an elite level we have the most important piece in place. As ever, though, since Marino was here, the fear is we’ll get part of the jigsaw in place but not complete the job and keep falling short. How many great defenses have we wasted and how many great players have we shipped out? I would also add the caveat that 31 other franchises are trying to lift the VL every year too ….. but ……

Since D seems to be one of the most disaffected posters, I’ve ended up typing a D-length post but it felt good to get some stuff off my chest.

Hope none of this has caused too much offense or stirred the pot too much. Just firing off some thoughts and observations in peace and respect.

Keep the faith fellas even if it means taking a break and stepping away for a while. Our day will come eventually. I’m 60 now, so it better be fecking soon ……….. whilst I’m still young enough to travel and experience it.

“Let’s go Brandon” is probably the dumbest thing I’ve seen in politics in the last 10 years and I’ve watched the screeching in the street when Trump was elected and those pussy hat marches. If you’re the good party in the politics then act like it.
Don’t complain that one side is doing something and then justify what your side does when it’s just as bad or worse. It’s middle school nonsense.

Definitely an unbiased opinion….I agree the Let’s Go Brandon thing is stupid. Maybe when most of the nation is saying FUCK JOE BIDEN, we’d have some honest discourse in our media over the utter incompetence of that man’s regime. I haven’t seen anything but propaganda for the worst president in my lifetime and I saw some of Carter. If anything thinks Trump being uncivil and saying stupid things is comparable to someone destroying our economy and raising inflation to 30+ year highs …well that’s just about as stupid as Let’s Go Brandon. 93. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The Fuck Joe Biden chants are ridiculous. It’s like social media out in the open. I think it’s disgusting that people chant fuck our President, it’s embarrassing. The President of the United States deserves a certain level of respect despite what you might think of him. People think they can just do or say whatever they feel because they’re dissatisfied. Social media is slowly eroding (maybe quickly eroding) any decency and respect people have for one another. Trump was a big part of that, because he behaved the same way. He didn’t like something, he lashed out and whined about it constantly. That behavior was never acceptable from that type of office. I hate Joe Biden but prefer that he hides in his little hole rather than constantly posting nonsense on social media and whining like a pair of balls in public. He was never Presidential as a human being, not for a second.

    • twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

100% agreed Mike. Particularly the outward disrespect for office – regardless of if it’s Biden, Trump, Obama, Bush, whoever. Let’s have some decorum as a society.

As some of you know I’m in the biz (software developer), so that’s saying something. Also because I’m in the biz (doesn’t necessarily make me any more informed or insightful than others), I get how much it can all be manipulated (by either side, domestically and beyond). When it is estimated that 15% of all Twitter accounts are bots, and I guarantee that number is lowballing it, but Twitter doesn’t do much of anything about it because a reduction in ‘users’ will hurt their stock/bottom line, what would anyone think about the quality of information and discourse on such a platform (same goes for all the other mass social media sites)? Not good.

The internet gave the common man a voice. Turned out I didn’t like what I heard, and yes that goes to both extremes.

UK, great to see you. Sorry about your parents, God bless.
Glad you made it to the game over there not to be outdone our beloved fins gave us the same ending for the fest that you had, woohoo.

By the way, it’s bad enough talking football with these clowns never mind politics oy lol

      Thanks Son.
Yessiree – the fins keep finding new and wonderfully bad ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, when they were doing the exact opposite last year and even against the Pats in game 1 ’21. Glad you all enjoyed the Fest too. On a side note, my g/f and I had a reservation for a steak dinner after the game in London. Had it gone to OT, I would have missed it and my g/f would have been sat twiddling her thumbs on her own for up to an hour (she went to see Diana’s wedding dress instead of the Fins). I knew we would find a way to lose, so in the end I’m glad we found it in regulation time. As an aside on that play, the fins had 3 men on the goal-line before the TO. When they came out they only had 2. So they adjusted of sorts but still allowed the completion and called the TO. C’est la vie. Things can only get better starting Sunday. We are 2-0 vs the Texans on off-loading Tunsil for a zillion picks and walking away from Watson. Let’s make it 3-0 now.

    SB7,

You stated the politics complaints is 100% Trump supporters and that’s a pretty wide brush, isn’t it? It may be a few Trump supporters but most have been very controlled in not talking about the daily foibles of the president. Far less is said than anti-Trump statements during his mistakes. Did you just not post here much from 2017 until Biden? Did you forget David posts here and he hates Trump? Again, 100% sounds ridiculous.

You mentioned LGB as the dumbest thing you’ve seen in 10 years which seems crazy. It’s not nice and is pretty dumb but dumbest thing you’ve seen? Do you just come here? Your statements are one sided hyperbole so I was just calling it out.

  96. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Mike,

I agree about Trump. He’s a narcissistic asshole and really made the US look bad with his ‘bravado’. I definitely did not like him as a person.

On the rest, I disagree. Communication is all about both sides being able to present their view. The media silences one side. How can normal people show disapproval of a clueless puppet? Not in polls. Those have natural limitations purely based on who responds online. Media won’t interview them. Media even lies when they speak ip. How else can you be heard? A representative in Washington? They already have media friendly politicians they exclusively use. LGB is crude snd stupid. Too many people think it’s witty. But…it’s s damn effective expression of disapproval at our propaganda arm and Joe Biden. Don’t blame people, who have had their communication outlets limited by elitists, when they use whatever outlet they can to be heard. I also completely disagree that a certain “king” must be respected. Our forefathers didn’t respect King George and I’m not going to respect King Dementia either. If it bothers our political elite and American aristocracy….well that just sucks. I’ll be devastated by their disapproval.

Great to see ya on the board, UK. Sorry to read about your parents. Glad you got to see the game; I just wish our Fins had gotten a win for ya.

Good to see you on UK – sorry to hear about your parents.

I like that you can buy ‘shares’ in your local club to reduce the chance of predatory owners crashing in and cashing out. As an example I hear there’s not a lot of love for the Glazer family by Manchester United supporters because they feel that’s what was happening.

    • ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

Thanks Twice. The Glazers are not well liked here by Utd fans for exactly that reason but at the top level, Utd are big enough to keep rolling. My local club turns over about £3-4M p.a. and owns it’s own stadium. It is a target to property speculators, asset strippers, money launderers etc and with a broad fan ownership, the sharks can never get a controlling interest to do as they please. A club only 8 miles down the road had exactly this happen to them. A new owner, leveraged buyout, spend, spend, spend, pulled out and disappeared, club sold for £1 to asset stripper then went into liquidation. All the money in soccer is in the PL. Lower league clubs eek out survival year to year. My club has sold several players just to pay tax bills to HMRC. Sad state of affairs.

      • twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

Yes a sad state of affairs – it would be a double punch to the gut to not only lose a team you root for (possibly for generations in a family) but also receive the economic hit of the team being gone to the town/locality. Glad you have some protection against that.
